Josie had known that she was going to die before it had happened, while she was flying through the air the people who mattered most had all flashed before her eyes and after she woke up she’d had just enough strength to ensure that Hope saved Jed and Ben and remained a part of the fight. Josie had known that it would have all fallen apart without Hope, she and Jed often seemed like the glue that held them all together and Josie hadn’t wanted anything to end up happening to any of the people she loved. Jed had already died once but thankfully Ben had brought him back while MG had been down for the count. Ben would have resurrected and Hope always was the most difficult to kill of all of them. Josie had wanted to make sure that her family and friends didn’t lose anyone else and she hoped that she had succeeded before she took her final breath. After that there was nothing but silence. Josie had heard people talking about the Other Side which was where supernaturals were meant to go when they died and she knew that that was where Jed had ended up when he’d died but Josie just seemed to be surrounded by darkness so she wasn’t sure whether that was where she had ended up or not. Time seemed to lose all meaning for her but eventually she felt something pulling her out of the darkness, unaware that as far as everyone else was concerned it was now hours after she’d died and darkness had long since fallen. It was the telltale sharp intake of breath that signalled Josie’s awakening but it wasn’t just hers for at the same time Hope did the same and the two girls woke up at the same time. Opening her eyes slowly, Josie looked up to see her brother, her parents, Ben, MG, Jack and Henrik gathered around and on the bed next to her was Hope. “What happened?” Josie asked, giving her dad and Jed’s hands a gentle squeeze as she took in their worried faces and red eyes from where they had been crying. Her mom was the same and so was Ben although she could see that he was trying to be strong. “Hope, are you okay?” she asked, unable to deny that she was worried about her girlfriend, especially since she was the only other one lying on a bed like Josie was. “How about you guys?” she asked Jed, Ben and MG, naturally worried about everyone apart from herself. – I freed myself from words never said –
“I mean— I don’t know them on a personal level, all I know are the rumors. It’s what most of the students talk about, anyway. It’s hard not to listen to them.” Jed said with a shrug of his shoulders. It was something that made some of the students keep their distance from Hope. Jed’s attention drifted over to Ben when he apologized, raising an eyebrow before he shook his head. “I told you that I was gonna uncurse you, no matter what it takes. I intend to keep my promise. We just need to take a different approach with your dad.” Jed offered back, his voice was calm despite the fact that he was feeling anything but calm. The plot only seemed to thicken from there as he listened to Ben, his brows furrowing together as he tried to think about what that could possibly mean, but he couldn’t figure it out. Not right away, at least.
Jed’s expression turned into one of curiosity when he heard what Henrik had to say, his head tilting slightly. Henrik shortly explained what he had meant by that and slowly, his expression shifted into one of acknowledgment. “I’m sorry to hear that.” He said with a nod of his head when he heard that the angels had killed the woman that Henrik loved. Jed gnawed on his inner cheeks for a moment as his eyes shifted to settle on Hope, knowing that she had made no plans to activate her vampire side any time soon. “She’s helped us all one way or the other and she’s our friend. Of course, we’ll help her.”
Jed released a sigh of relief, but he couldn’t deny the fact that his heart was still clenched tight because he just wasn’t sure what would happen from there. “I’m thankful for her because if it weren’t for her, we would have lost Josie completely and I really don’t think we would have been able to handle that.” Jed had already started to think of all the ways he could bring Josie back that didn’t involve the help of the angels seeing as though they were already so useless.
Jed’s expression softened as he listened to Ben, slowly nodding his head despite the fact that he didn’t feel confident at all. “It’s okay… They need to hear it from me.” Jed explained in a soft voice before he finally mustered the courage to call his parents. Once he was done, he felt Ben’s arm wrap around his shoulders. He slowly wrapped his arms back around Ben, releasing a shaky exhale. “Thanks.” He responded, his voice was small for the most part. From there, it was just a matter of waiting.
A while later, his parents came into the dorm room, and almost immediately, he made his way over to them. “I’m so sorry… I should’ve looked after her better. I'm really sorry.” Jed wrapped his arms around his parents as he finally allowed himself to break down, comforted by the fact that they weren’t angry or disappointed with him. Instead, they embraced him so tightly. Though the sight of their red eyes really did break his heart. He eventually let go of them so that they could all stay close to Josie. When Ric asked if they were okay, Jed nodded his head to show that he was okay. “Oh, I wasn’t present for the fight itself… I’m quite alright, thank you.” Jack answered, his lips stretching to form a genuine smile. “And I was technically dead through most of it, so I was pretty useless,” MG answered a moment later, Jack offered him a softened look. “For what it’s worth, I am glad that you are no longer technically dead, MG.” MG offered back a soft smile at that, finding it sweet.
Jed’s eyes shifted to settle on Ben, wanting to make sure that his boyfriend was okay, too. Jed’s lips parted to say something but he stopped when he heard two sharp intakes of air and almost immediately, his eyes relaxed on both Josie and Hope. “Hey, Jo.” He greeted in a soft voice, his heart filled with so much relief he could barely put it into words. When he felt her squeeze his hand, that was when he finally felt comforted. She was holding his hand, too. Her hand was no longer cold.
“Jo, there’s something you should know…” Jed trailed off, unsure how to put it into words right away. He looked at Hope who seemed to be as confused as Josie was, but he could tell that she was starting to realize just what had happened. “Let me,” Hope spoke up, her voice coming out raspy as she struggled to gulp because her throat felt like it was made out of sandpaper.

━ the heart wants what it wants━
Hope had heard stories of the Other Side before, had heard that it was an isolating place where if you stayed longer than needed, you'd begin to go mad. Hope looked around her as she began taking in her surroundings, not at all surprised when she could barely make anything out of it. Ben's father had actually managed to kill her... He was a lot dumber than she originally thought if he thought that would be the end of her. If anything, he just made her a lot stronger. However, there was a beam of light that soon became visible in her peripheral vision which made her turn around not long after. "Hope Mikaelson." A voice called out her name which made her tense up momentarily. "Your time has come." The bright light soon turned into an actual person, she looked completely normal, no outstanding features as she held out her hand. "Come with me, child. I'll ensure to take you to the afterlife that you deserve." Hope looked at the outstretched hand before her eyes shifted up to look at the woman. "Hm. I definitely remember my parents telling me not to let creepy strangers take me anywhere, so how about thanks, but no thanks?" Hope turned around and started walking, though she wasn't sure where she was even going because everything looked the same. Endless and outstretched ahead of her with no real end. "You're dead, Hope. You need to move on. I can help you achieve that."
"I'm not dead. At least, not completely. I can come back from this. I just need to wake up. So, again, thank you but I'm not going anywhere with you." Hope wasn't sure for how long she actually walked, but that woman still followed her and Hope guessed that it was part of the woman's job to make sure that Hope 'moves on to peace' or whatever the hell she was talking about, but Hope wasn't ready to go anywhere other than back to life because she had everything she could possibly want back there.
Hope eventually gave up and sat down on the ground, the woman standing not too far away from where she was, still trying to tempt Hope to come with her but none of what she had to offer was even remotely tempting. She didn't want to move on because Ben's father was out there, doing God knows what but if Hope knew one thing for certain, it was that the man was up to no good and she was worried that someone else might become the victim of the man's reckless and homicidal plan to eradicate the supernatural world. The woman talked, and talked, and talked but she finally seemed to stop when their surroundings seemed to shake. "Like I said, I'm not dead yet. Not one hundred percent, at least. So, thanks for literally making my ears bleed from how much you talk but like I said, no thanks."
Hope sat up with a gasp, her eyes quickly scanning her surroundings. She could find everyone else in the room, looking alive and well, including her uncle, Ric, and Jenna. Hope immediately seemed to remember something as she quickly turned her head and sure enough, Josie was there, too. Awake, looking as confused as ever. Hope didn't blame her. She could tell that Jed was struggling to tell her what had happened, so she decided to do it instead, letting him know that she wanted to tell Josie the truth "Worry about yourself, Josie. For once." Her voice was far from harsh as she spoke, if anything, it had the same soft tone to it.
"You died, and from the looks of it, so did I." Hope revealed, nodding her head slowly as she lifted her hand to touch where the angel had stabbed her. "I gave you my blood, Josie. I could tell that you were fading fast and I still chose to give you my blood. It was selfish of me to do that, to make that decision for you especially when it looked like you weren't going to survive that. I'm sorry. I just couldn't lose you." Hope said in a soft voice as she gulped past the dryness of her throat. "So... You're in transition now. Do you know what heretics are?"

“I’ve heard a couple of things about them but not too much. I probably haven’t been paying enough attention,” Ben shrugged. The students at the Salvatore School normally talked about so many things that he didn’t understand so the truth was that he had become pretty good at tuning them out a lot of the time. He had been learning more and more from Jed and their friends over the last few months, though, so Ben knew that it was probably about time that he started paying more attention since he stood a better chance at knowing what they were talking about. As Jed spoke again, Ben nodded. “I know you did and I know you will, I just wish there was a way to keep all of you safe,” Ben admitted. He knew deep down that his father would have targeted them all sooner or later anyway, Hope was a tribrid and was the only one of her kind and the school was home to a lot of supernatural kids and teachers. It was already a pretty big target for his father but none of the students at the school were defenceless and Ben knew that they would find a way to stop his father. As Jed said he was sorry to hear what had happened, Henrik shrugged. “It’s okay. I made a deal with them to hand myself over in exchange for them giving me the chance to bring her back to life and they took it. They weren’t counting on my family and friends fighting to get me back but when the new leader of Heaven found out what they were doing she locked them all away,” Henrik shrugged. He wasn’t sure whether Hannah knew what Ben’s father was doing but if she didn’t then Henrik hoped that it wouldn’t be long before she stepped in. “I know you will. She’s lucky to have friends like you.” Henrik knew how much they all meant to Hope and it was clear how much she meant to them as well so he was glad that they had each other. “I can’t blame you for that. I heard about what happened with the dragon, your family has been through so much already,” Henrik nodded. They had been through far too much and Henrik was glad that they didn’t have to worry about losing Josie. Henrik would have helped them bring her back if he could but now she was in transition and they were going to have to support her in a whole new way. Nodding as Jed said his parents needed to hear it from him, Ben still stayed close for support and once the call was over Ben wrapped his arm around his boyfriend’s shoulders and a half smile touched his lips as Jed wrapped his arms around him in return and he pressed a gentle kiss to the top of Jed’s head. “How are you holding up?” Ben asked gently. He knew that Jed had considered becoming a hybrid after they got together and Ben had made it clear that it would have to be his choice but he wasn’t sure if this was something that Josie had ever considered or whether it was going to end up being something that she wouldn’t want so he knew that it had to be difficult for Jed. A while later, Ric and Jenna arrived and Ric hugged his son tightly as Jed made his way over to them. “You have nothing to apologise for, we know you would have done the best you could,” Ric assured him before looking around at Ben, MG and Jack. “You all would have done what you could to protect her.” There wasn’t a doubt in Ric’s mind about that, they all looked out for each other and he knew that they would have protected Josie as well as they could. “This isn’t your fault, the only person to blame for this is Ben’s father. It’s all going to be okay,” Ric said, hoping to soothe Jed as he broke down. Ric was as upset as any of them were but Josie would be coming back to them and even though it wasn’t in the way that any of them would have expected, all that mattered was that they weren’t going to lose her completely. “We’re all okay, thank you,” Ben said, offering Ric a grateful smile for checking in on them. It had meant a lot to hear that the only person Ric blamed was his father and Ben knew that he was right, he just hoped that the others all felt the same. It wasn’t much longer before Josie and Hope woke up and Ben’s gaze swept over both of them, so glad that they were back with them where they belonged. JED SALTZMAN

This wasn’t how any of them had wanted the fight with Ben’s father to go, they had faced villains in the past but Ben’s father was much stronger than anyone they had ever come across before and he was more determined to get rid of all of them than any of them had realised. Josie knew that she had angered the angel by healing Hope, Jed and MG but she didn’t regret it one bit. Josie was able to use magic and she had been able to get the upper hand against Ben’s father for a while but at the end of the day Josie was mortal and she didn’t have the strength or speed that the others had. She was strong in other ways and she wasn’t afraid to stand up to the angel but it had become clear that he didn’t like what she was doing and she’d managed to hang in there just long enough to let Hope know that she needed to keep fighting and protect the others. After that there was nothing but silence and darkness but as Josie started moving she emerged somewhere different, somewhere that looked like Mystic Falls but was so dreary and devoid of life. There wasn’t anyone around and Josie couldn’t deny that she felt lonely, she only hoped that Hope, Jed and the others had all made it and had managed to at least fight Ben’s father off. She didn’t blame anyone for what had happened, danger always seemed to find them anyway and from the way Ben’s father had talked it really was only a matter of time before he went after them, getting the bracelet to work had just given him an excuse to make an appearance sooner than he otherwise might have done. If this was what being on the Other Side was like then Josie knew that she didn’t want it, she already missed Hope, her family and her friends and the thought of never seeing them again was enough to make her heart ache. No one seemed to be around and she found herself searching for someone, anyone who might be there but found no one. Time seemed to blur together completely as she searched but eventually she found herself being pulled away and before she knew it her eyes were open and she was looking around at some of the people she loved most in the world, people she had thought that she would never get to see again. Pushing herself up into a sitting position, Josie gave her brother’s hand a gentle squeeze and she did the same with her dad. She could see that they had both been crying and her mom and Ben had been as well. Seeing that was enough to make her heartache but she was back with them now and for that she was truly grateful. “Hey sweetheart,” Ric said, relief written all over his face as his eyes met hers. “Hey dad,” she said, offering him a smile as he kissed her forehead. Josie’s gaze lingered on all of them for a moment but then Hope was speaking and Josie found herself turning to look at her girlfriend and offering her a smile. “You know I can’t help it, I always worry about all of you,” she shrugged, knowing that it was true. Turning to look at Jed as he said that there was something she should know, Josie turned to look at Hope once more as she interjected. It was clear that Jed was struggling to find the words and she could see that her dad wasn’t sure what to say either so she knew that something was going on and she was vaguely aware of the fact that she felt different but she wasn’t quite sure why. For a moment Josie was surprised when Hope said they’d both died but then Josie remembered what had happened after the darkness overwhelmed her and she nodded slowly. “I knew I was going to die when we were talking but I had to make sure you were all safe,” she admitted gently. “I’m so sorry you died as well, I know you didn’t want to activate your vampire side this soon.” Hope had been born with magic and she had triggered her werewolf curse when she had accidentally killed the guy that had attacked her but activating her vampire side was something that they had both thought wouldn’t happen for quite some time. “Are you okay?” she asked, knowing that it had to be a shock to the system for Hope. As Hope said that she gave Josie her blood, Josie’s expression turned to one of surprise. Henrik was there so she had assumed that he had brought her back but it turned out that she was wrong about that. “It’s okay, I understand why you did it,” Josie assured her, getting up from the bed and making her way over to her girlfriend. Once she was there she wrapped her arms around Hope and hugged her tightly, not caring that they weren’t alone. “Yeah, I know what heretics are. After we got together I...” she began, her voice trailing off as a sheepish look formed on her face. “I started looking for ways that I could become immortal too. I knew that activating your vampire side would happen at some point but I thought we’d have years before we had to worry about that, I just wanted to be prepared in case you were willing to live more than a mortal lifetime with me,” she explained. It wasn’t something that she had talked to anyone about but she had been looked into it briefly and during that time she had come across the heretics. “I read about a group of them that killed over a thousand people between them, promise me you won’t let me lose myself like that?” she asked as she looked around at all of them, relieved when she saw her dad and Ben nod. “We would never let that happen,” her dad assured her and Josie nodded before turning her attention to Hope. “It looks like we both need to complete the transition, are you ready?” she asked, not sure exactly how they were going to do it but knowing that it would have to be a way that didn’t involve them feeding on people they cared about. – I freed myself from words never said –
Jed released a small hum. Gossiping had always been the speciality of some of the kids here at the school. They loved it more than air itself. He was pretty sure he was the target of their gossiping once or twice back when he was being an absolute douche bag. Though he couldn’t help but feel worried about their safety if Ben’s father really went through with his plan of wiping them from existence. He didn’t want anything bad to happen to any of them. They were here to feel protected, after all. Jed nodded his head in an understanding manner because that was the part that sucked the most. He wished there was a way to make Ben’s father pay without all of them risking their lives but if they intended to put a stop to that man’s crazy plan, he knew there was going to be some risks.
“Hm. Castiel mentioned something about the leader of Heaven, too. Sounds like she’s a total badass.” Jed pointed out, sounding impressed. Honestly, as much as he wanted to hate Castiel for giving up on them, he gets it. Jed’s lips stretched to form a small smile, nodding his head. He knew that it was all too soon for Hope, but as much as he wanted to change the past, he couldn’t. They would just have to find new ways to cope with all the crazy changes. “Yeah, they have been.” Jed said with a soft sigh falling from his lips, his attention moving to rest on his sister once again, watching her with his lips pressed into a thin line.
Jed’s attention moved back to his boyfriend when his question came through, his lips stretching to form a small smile. “I’m okay. I just want today to be over, if I’m being honest.” Jed admitted, his eyes moving to rest on Ben once again. “You?” He asked, his curiosity visible in the tone of his voice.
Jed only cried harder when Ric comforted him, Jenna practically saying the same thing to him. He eventually released them from his tight hug and quickly wiped his tears away. He nodded his head in agreement with his dad when he told him that Ben’s father was the one to blame for all of this. It was all his fault. Jed’s attention was captured by Josie and Hope when they both woke up at the same time.

━ the heart wants what it wants━
“Welcome back, baby.” Jenna said in a soft voice as she leaned over to press a gentle kiss on her forehead as well. Hope watched them with a gentle smile on her lips, looking mildly surprised when Jenna reached for her, too. Hope hesitated only for a moment before she returned the hug, appreciative of the warmth that only mothers seemed to carry. “Hey, Uncle Henrik.” Hope greeted when her eyes relaxed on him, offering him a small smile. “We… kinda assumed that Josie was gone for good, so we reached for his help to bring her back.” Jed explained, offering Hope a soft smile. Hope’s expression turned into one of guilt. “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you all sooner.” She should have brought it up when she saw the tears in Jed’s eyes back then, but she had been so set on vengeance that she forgot to do so. Jed offered her a gentle shake of her head to let her know that he never held it against her in the first place, he was just relieved that his sister was alive.
“I know.” Hope offered back with a nod of her head. “But right now, I need you to focus on yourself because this is serious, Jo.” Hope said a moment later. When Josie told her that she knew she was going to die, Hope’s expression fell. “Oh…” God, she wished she could take it all back, she wished she could prevent all of it from happening. “It’s a lot sooner than I wanted, but… I always had a feeling that I wasn’t going to have control over when I get to activate it.” Hope admitted with a nod of her head following, her shoulders lifting and dropping in a quick shrug. “Ask me tomorrow?” Hope offered with a brief chuckle falling from her lips. She felt like crap right now. She had no idea it was like this for vampires when they first wake up in transition. Everything was just too bright and she was feeling so dizzy, too. Not to mention thirsty.
Hope let out a soft sigh as she felt Josie’s arms wrap around her. She returned the hug almost instantly, relaxing into the embrace of her girlfriend despite the fact that they weren’t alone right now. She eventually parted from the hug to ask Josie if she knew what heretics were. Her expression turned into one of surprise at Josie’s admittance. “Oh… Really?” Hope was surprised, to say the least. “That’s really sweet.” She added a moment later. Having a mortal girlfriend was one of the many factors that held Hope back from activating her vampire side. She didn’t want to outlive her. Not to mention she didn’t want to know what the world would look like without Josie in it.
“We’ll take care of you, baby. We won’t let anything like that happen to you.” Jenna added a moment later, her expression was soft but her eyes were tearful. Jed nodded his head in agreement a moment later. Hope’s attention drifted back to her girlfriend when she said that they both need to complete the transition. “Before that, though… We need to make you an amulet so you can store your magic in it. We have a limited time to do this, so every second counts, okay? This is how we make sure that you don’t lose your magic completely.” Hope said with a nod of her head following. “So for now, completing the transition can wait. We gotta take care of this first. We can kill two birds with one stone and make it your daylight amulet, too.” Her eyes warily scanned Josie for a moment, her head tilted slightly to the side before she seemed to realize something. “He took your amulet… That asshole.” Hope mumbled under her breath, her tone carrying an edge of anger to it. “It’s fine, I’ll make you a new one.” Hope felt like it was her responsibility to help out because she was the one who put Josie in this position, to begin with. She decided to wait on completing her transition for now. Hope pushed herself up from the bed so she could search for what she needed.

Ben had never been good with gossip or anything like that, until he arrived in Mystic Falls he had lived his life keeping his distance from everyone around him so there really hadn’t been much point. Now he had more important things to think about and that was all thanks to Jed and the others. He wasn’t used to having people like them in his life at all and if he was honest he hadn’t thought that he would ever find anyone like them so he knew that he truly was lucky. Now he wanted nothing more than to keep all of them safe but if he was honest Ben wasn’t sure that that was going to be possible, not if his father had his way. Hope had died and activated her vampire side and now Josie was in transition as well. They could easily end up being only the first casualties in all of this but Ben knew that he had to hope that it wouldn’t come to that. As Jed spoke about Hannah, Henrik couldn’t help but laugh. “She is,” he agreed. “You actually might have already met her, her name is Hannah and she works at the Grill,” he said, curious as to whether they would know who he was talking about or not. “That stays between us though, she wants it to be kept a secret for obvious reasons,” he added, knowing that he could trust them to keep it a secret. He really wasn’t sure what Hannah and Castiel would do but Henrik trusted them both and he hoped that they would make the right decision. As Jed agreed that his family had been through a lot, Henrik’s expression softened. “You’ll all be together again soon, that’s the main thing,” Henrik assured him gently. Ben couldn’t deny that he was worried about Jed, he had taken his own death in his stride and had started making jokes about it pretty much straight away but this was Josie and Hope so Ben knew that it was completely different. Jed had done everything he could in order to protect the two girls and Ben had tried to do the same but at the end of the day his father had been one step ahead of them and he hadn’t been afraid to take the lives of anyone he could. “I can’t blame you, it has been a complete rollercoaster,” Ben admitted. First the bracelet hadn’t worked and Ben had died, then it had worked and they had been able to celebrate and now Josie and Hope were both in transition. It seemed to be one thing after another and Ben wanted it all just to stop. “I’m fine, I’m just worried about you,” he said gently. He wouldn’t blame Jed or his family for blaming him for all of this but they didn’t seem to do that and for that Ben truly was grateful. “I know it doesn’t seem like it now but Josie will be okay, I know she will. She’s one of the strongest people I’ve ever met.” All Ben could do was watch as Ric hugged Jed and as Ric let him go, Ben was surprised when the guy made his way over to him and squeezed his shoulder. Ben had never thought that a gesture like that would affect him too much but it seemed like Ric’s way of showing Ben that he didn’t blame him and that meant the world to the nephilim. JED SALTZMAN

“Thanks mom,” Josie said, reaching for both of her parents and hugging them tightly before doing the same with Jed and Ben. She could see how worried they had all been and she knew that she wanted nothing more than to ease those worries if she could. Josie watched with a smile as first her mom hugged Hope and then her dad did the same, Hope’s parents weren’t with them right now but Josie knew that her own parents saw Hope as family and Henrik was there as well so she wasn’t alone. “Hey little one,” Henrik said, reaching for his niece and pulling her into a tight hug. As Hope apologised for not telling the boys sooner, Henrik shook his head. “Don’t worry about any of that now, you did the best you could,” he assured her gently as he reached forward and brushed her hair away from her face. “I know,” Josie nodded ass Hope said that she needed to focus on herself right now because it was serious. She knew that her girlfriend was right but she also knew that she had time and making sure that the people she loved were alright was always going to be important to Josie. As Hope’s expression fell, Josie’s expression softened. “No, it’s okay because you were with me,” she said gently. It had made it easier knowing that Hope was there because she had at least been with the girl she loved. As Hope spoke again, Josie nodded. “I can understand why but I always hoped it would be your decision,” she admitted gently. Hope hadn’t had a say in triggering her werewolf curse, it had been self defence but that hadn’t changed the end result and Hope had been left to deal with the consequences. Now the same thing had happened again but she wasn’t on her own and she never would be. “That bad, huh?” Josie asked with a laugh even though she knew that she didn’t really feel much better. “For what it’s worth, I’m glad we’re doing this together,” she added gently. Josie had thought about this but the truth was that the thought of going through it alone had scared her. It had all happened so much sooner than she had thought that it would but that was out of their control, all they could do now was figure things out from here and Josie knew that they would do just that. Josie was a little embarrassed to reveal how she had found out about heretics but she knew that she had to be honest. She wouldn’t have done anything without talking it through with her family and girlfriend first but the decision had been made for her just like it had been for Hope and Josie knew that she wanted to make the most of it now. “Really,” she nodded. “I love you and I didn’t want you to go through the pain of losing me one day.” She never wanted to cause Hope pain and it had been bad enough seeing the pain that had been written all over Hope’s face earlier that day. “Thank you mom,” Josie said sincerely as her mom said they would take care of her and wouldn’t let anything like that happen to her and Jed nodded. Josie pulled her mom into another hug because she was pretty sure that in that moment they both needed it. That was the one thing that had scared Josie the most, she had worried about losing herself. She knew that it was different for Raf, he was dealing with a mutated form of lunar psychosis that was making it that much more difficult for him to control himself, and she and Hope wouldn’t have to worry about that but there were ordinary vampires out there like Stefan who were rippers too and Josie knew that she wouldn’t be able to forgive herself if she ended up hurting anyone. “I almost forgot about that,” Josie nodded as Hope said they needed to make her an amulet. Not much was known about heretics but Josie had read a little about how they kept their connection to magic and she knew that she didn’t want to lose hers, not now after everything that she had been through. “Okay,” she nodded as Hope said that every second counts. Josie’s hand moved to her neck where the necklace that she was able to store siphoned magic in always rested and her eyes widened in surprise when she realised that it was gone. “Why would he do that?” she said angrily and this time it was Ben who spoke up. “The only thing that makes sense is that he wanted a trophy. Hope, did he take anything from you?” he asked, knowing that he wouldn’t be surprised if his father had taken something from Hope as a souvenir as well. “Thank you,” Josie said gently as Hope said she would make her a new one before starting to root around for what she needed. “Here, this should help,” Henrik said, holding out two different pieces of metal and a stone. “Do you remember how make these into a necklace?” he asked his niece, knowing that if she didn’t then he would help without hesitation. – I freed myself from words never said –
Jed’s eyes widened to the point where he momentarily worried it would bulge out of his skull. “Sorry, what now? Hannah?” Jed’s surprise became evident in his expression. “I’ve really been working with the leader of Heaven this whole time?” Jed breathed a soft ‘wow’ under his breath. “Yeah, of course. My lips are sealed.” Jed added a moment later. He nodded his head at Henrik’s next words, knowing that he was right about that. It was what mattered the most at the end of the day.
Jed nodded his head in agreement with Ben. If anything, describing it as a rollercoaster was the understatement of the year. He can’t believe so much has happened in just one day. It felt like a year, truly. “I’m fine, really. You have nothing to worry about.” Jed had experienced so many emotions today. Relief, grief, relief again, then happiness, then anger, and lastly, grief again. It was truly a rollercoaster and truth be told, Jed was tired, emotionally, at least. Though fighting Ben’s father made him feel like four loaded trucks had passed over his body multiple times. That guy was powerful. Too powerful, almost. Jed bit down on his bottom lip before he nodded his head slowly, his eyes moving to relax on Ben once again. “Yeah, she is,” Jed said with a half-smile forming on his lips. “I’m really glad that you boys are okay,” Jenna said with a sad little smile on her lips, the sight of her tearful eyes made Jed’s own eyes fill with tears too. Jenna wiped her eyes quickly and made her way over to the bed so she could stay by her daughter’s side. Jed didn’t stay far behind, either.

━ the heart wants what it wants━
Jed and Jenna were all too happy to hug Josie as tightly as they could before eventually leaning back, looking relieved to see her alive and talking again. Hope’s expression softened when Jenn and Alaric hugged her, too. “Thanks.” She whispered in a soft voice before she eventually leaned back from the hug, giving them an appreciative look for making her feel included and loved, too. Hope melted into her uncle’s hug, her eyes closing momentarily as she tightened her arms around him momentarily. She released him not long after, her expression softening at her uncle’s words before she nodded her head slowly. Her lips stretched to form a soft smile when she felt her uncle brush her hair away from her face, the gesture was deeply appreciated. It made her feel like she was home again.
Hope nodded her head with a half-smile forming on her lips. “No use in trying to change that now.” She said as her shoulders lifted and dropped in a quick shrug. “All I can do is learn how to cope with the new change and move forward from there,” Hope added a moment later. A soft chuckle fell from her lips at Josie’s question. “It’s just been a long day,” Hope said with a small smile forming on her lips. She definitely agreed with Josie, feeling glad that they were doing this together. It made it a lot less scary for her.
“I love you too, Josie,” Hope said with a soft smile resting on her lips, relieved that she no longer had to worry about outliving Josie. It was a thought that scared her so much. Hope watched as Josie and Jenna hugged again, she could see the tears in Jenna’s eyes and how hard she was trying not to let her emotions overwhelm her as she rubbed her daughter’s back. “Of course, baby. There’s nothing we wouldn’t do for you. You’re our baby girl, after all.” Jenna leaned back and pressed a gentle kiss on her daughter’s forehead.
There was a frown already forming on her forehead as she listened to Ben explain that his father must have taken it as a trophy. Hope reached her hand up to her necklace, relieved to see that it was there. None of them were missing. She shook her head at Ben’s question. “No, I’m not missing anything. I guess he wanted to run off as soon as possible. Coward.” Hope said with a small frown tugging at the corner of her lips.
Hope’s attention relaxed on Henrik when he held out two different pieces of metal and a stone. “Yeah, I remember. Thank you.” She said with a half-smile resting on her lips as she began making her way back to the bed, cringing at the ringing sound that she heard in her head. It was so loud. Everything was so loud. Hope took a few deep breaths to calm herself before she was finally able to push past that annoying ringing sound before it could consume her whole. “Uhm, right…” Hope shook her head and lifted her hand to wipe the sweat off her forehead, knowing that by now they looked pale and sickly, though she knew that all they needed was blood to complete their transition and they’d no longer feel this way. Hope let her hands hover over the pieces of metal and the stone as she murmured the spell under her breath, though she stopped when she noticed that nothing was changing. Hope frowned as she lowered her hands before she repeated the spell again. Again, nothing seemed to change. “My magic… It’s not working.” Hope pointed out the obvious as she looked up. “Is it because I’m in transition?” Hope questioned even though she had a feeling she already knew the answer to that. “I— Uncle Henrik, can you help me with this?” She didn’t want to complete her transition first, she wanted to do it with Josie, so she knew she’d have to let her uncle help her with the spell since she wasn’t able to do it.

Henrik couldn’t help but laugh at Jed’s reaction despite what was going on right now. “I guess you didn’t see that one coming, huh?” he asked, an amused smile forming on his face as he looked over at Jed. “She and Castiel are the only ones I know but they’re both good people, not all of them are like Ben’s father,” Henrik explained. There were good and bad angels just like there were good and bad people. Not all of them were evil, it was just a select few and it was unfortunate that one of them had decided to make a move against the kids that day. “Turns out you do know an angel after all,” Ben said, a smile touching his lips as he looked over at Jed. He could see that Henrik knew that Jed would keep it a secret and Ben knew that he wasn’t going to tell anyone either. “I always worry about you, you know that,” Ben said gently as he gave Jed’s shoulder a squeeze. He was pretty sure that it came with the territory of being in love, he always wanted to make sure that Jed was alright and that was never going to change. He knew that the events of that day would be sure to take a toll on Jed, after all he’d seen his sister and one of his closest friends die and even though they were both going to come back it still didn’t change what had happened to the two of them. Ben knew that they had done the right thing by standing against his father because the angel had made it clear that he intended on wiping all of them out but it had proved to be a lot more difficult than any of them had anticipated and Ben knew that they were going to have to make sure that they were ready for next time. As Jed agreed that Josie was one of the strongest people, Ben couldn’t help but smile. “She has a lot of people who care about her and so does Hope, we’ll help them both through this.” It was going to be a change for both girls, that much was for sure, but they would adjust and Ben knew that he, Jed and everyone else would be there to help them while they did. Looking over at Jenna as she spoke, Ben offered her a small smile in return. “We are, thank you,” he nodded. “Are you okay?” he asked, knowing that both Jenna and Ric were trying to stay strong right now despite how difficult it must be for them. It felt good to feel the arms of her mom and brother around her after everything that had happened and as they moved away her dad followed suit as well. Josie loved them all so much and she had honestly thought that she would never get to see them again so she was beyond glad that she was back with them where she belonged. Josie had always known that being a witch brought with it an element of risk, after all her dad was a hunter and she knew others who were as well, but one thing Josie knew for sure was that she didn’t want to hurt anyone, not anyone other than Ben’s father at least. She knew that she would never forgive the angel for what he had put Ben through or for what he had done to her and Hope, he needed to be stopped and she was certain that they would find a way to do just that. Glancing over at Hope as Henrik hugged her, Josie felt a smile touch her lips. None of the rest of Hope’s family were here and she wasn’t sure whether that was a good or a bad thing for her girlfriend but Hope at least had Henrik and for that Josie was grateful. “You’re going to be okay, we’ll make sure of it,” Henrik assured her gently, not wanting Hope to worry about a thing. “I know,” Josie said gently as Hope said that there was no point in trying to change what had happened now. As Hope spoke again, Josie nodded. “You can do this, I know you can,” she assured Hope. She had always known that Hope would activate her vampire side sooner or later and Josie had known that when that happened chances were that Hope would end up taking it in her stride just like she had when she had triggered her werewolf curse. “I think we all agree with that,” she admitted as Hope said that it had been a long day, glancing around at her brother, Ben and MG for a moment before looking over at her girlfriend again once more. Josie couldn’t deny that the thought of being a heretic scared her but she knew that she and Hope would be able to figure it all out together. “I know,” Josie said gently as Hope said she loved her too. She had never doubted that since Hope had come clean to her about how she felt about her and she knew that it wouldn’t have changed now but she still loved to hear it. The one thing that had worried Josie about being with Hope was the idea of Hope remaining the same while she continued to get older, she had thought that they’d had years to figure it all out before Hope activated her vampire side but it was still a relief to know that they didn’t have to worry about any of that now. “Thanks mom, that means so much to me,” Josie admitted, so glad that the way they saw her hadn’t changed. “I love you all so much,” she said, a smile touching her lips as her mom kissed her forehead. The fact that Ben’s father had taken her necklace from her made Josie hate him that much more, she knew that it was such a small thing in the grand scheme of it but it had always meant a lot to her and she couldn’t imagine being without it. “He was probably too scared to stick around,” Josie nodded, glad that he hadn’t taken anything of Hope’s. Hope knew that without her necklace she would lose her connection to her magic when she completed the transition and just become a regular vampire, she only had a limited window in which to store the magic she could feel flowing through her veins right now in her pendant and she knew that she didn’t want to lose that connection so she was relieved when Hope offered to make her a necklace and Henrik found everything that she would need. Josie knew that she had time to complete the transition but even so she was starting to feel the fact that she hadn’t fed taking a toll on her and she knew that she didn’t want to feel that way for any longer than she had to. Hope was feeling it too and Josie watched as her girlfriend tried to make a necklace for her but she couldn’t seem to do it, something was wrong. “Sorry Hope, I didn’t even think about that,” Henrik admitted. None of them had ever really known how it would work for Hope but it seemed that she needed to complete the transition in order to regain her connection to her magic. “It’s okay Hope, you can go ahead and complete your transition,” Josie said gently, not wanting her girlfriend to go without that connection for longer than she had to. Instead Hope was asking Henrik to help her though and Josie watched as he nodded and moved closer to Hope. Holding his hands out over the metal and stone, he muttered the same spell that Hope had tried moments before and created a beautiful necklace before her eyes, one which he quickly turned into a daylight amulet for her but made sure that Josie would still be able to store her magic in it. “You should do the honours,” he said, picking up the necklace and handing it to Hope. Making her way over to Hope, Josie turned around so her girlfriend could fasten the necklace around her neck and once that was done, Josie clasped the pendant with both hands and stored her magic in there the same way she had done so many times before with her old necklace. Once that was done her dad picked up two of the bloodbags before holding one out to each of them. Josie thanked him as she took the one he offered her from him and she offered him a smile as he squeezed each of their shoulders before moving back over to where Jenna was. “Are you ready for this?” Josie asked as she looked over at Hope, knowing that she wanted them to do this together. – I freed myself from words never said –
Jed let out a small chuckle at Henrik's question. "Not at all, honestly." She definitely hid it well. At the mention of Castiel, his lips pressed into a thin line, not exactly sure if he could agree with that since Castiel didn't help them when they needed it the most but at the same time, he hated the fact that he understood his point. If werewolves were nearly extinct and they reached out to him for help on how to kill another one of his kind, he'd put his own kind first. So, in a way, he understood what Castiel was trying to do but Ben's father was dangerous, he wasn't just planning their demise, he was planning every supernatural creature's demise, including Jack who was under Castiel's protection. "I know an angel," Jed repeated with a grin locked on his lips, looking proud about that.
"I know," Jed said with a soft smile resting on his lips when Ben told him that he always worries about him. "I feel the same about you, too." The whole time they were fighting Ben's father, he was so worried that his father was going to turn on Ben and find some way to kill him or hurt him. He was nearly consumed with concern when he saw the way Ben had looked battered and bruised after trying to take on his father which didn't end well for Ben.
Jed nodded his head in agreement, his lips stretching to form a small smile. He knew that they weren't going to let Josie or Hope go through any of it alone, they were going to look out for them, no matter what. "I'm okay, sweetheart," Jenna replied with a small smile on her lips. Jed gave her a look that showed he could see right through her. "I will be okay once I know my baby girl is okay," Jenna said instead, her smile still visible on her lips.

━ the heart wants what it wants━
Hope felt a small smile tug at the corner of her lips when her uncle told her that she was going to be okay and that they will make sure of it. It was everything she wanted to hear and more. "I know." She really didn't have a single doubt in her mind about that. Josie's faith in her also made her relax a bit as she nodded her head a few times, looking a little more at ease now. She hoped that she won't let any of them down from here on out. Hope let out a brief chuckle at Josie's next words as she nodded her head in agreement a few times. "I feel like I could sleep for three business days starting from today, honestly," Jed spoke up with a chuckle leaving his own lips. Today had been a rollercoaster for everyone involved. A rollercoaster ride none of them even signed up for, that is. Hope pressed her lips into a thin line and nodded her head in agreement with Jed because she definitely felt the same way but she knew that the reason she was feeling so weak right now was that she was in transition. Soon, she'll be feeling much better.
"We love you too, baby," Jenna spoke up in a soft voice, knowing that everyone in the room loved Josie dearly. Hope's lips stretched to form a soft smile as she nodded her head in agreement too. She loved Josie too. More than words could ever begin to describe.
Hope seemed upset that she couldn't even perform such a simple spell, her frown forming on her face. She shook her head when her uncle apologized. "I didn't even know that was a thing, but it makes sense," Hope said with a soft sigh falling from her lips not long after. Her attention drifted to her girlfriend before she shook her head. "Not without you." She replied with finality in her tone before her attention drifted over to her uncle to watch him perform the spell. Once the spell was complete, Hope's eyes relaxed on the beautiful necklace that her uncle had created. "Thank you." Hope reached out for the necklace from her uncle and began making her way to her girlfriend, offering her a gentle smile, and once Josie's back was facing her, Hope fastened the necklace around her neck and slowly moved her hand away, watching as Josie stored her magic in the necklace, her smile still evident on her lips.
Her attention moved to settle on Alaric who held out two blood bags to them. Hope reached for her blood bag, murmuring a soft 'thank you' as she held the bag tightly in her hand for a moment. Everything felt so surreal to Hope at that particular moment. Her eyes moved to relax on Josie, watching her quietly for a few moments before she nodded her head a few times. "Yeah, I am." Hope could feel the growing ache in her gums only intensify from there, itching to just sink her teeth into the blood bag until there wasn't even a drop left. The whole prospect of drinking blood grossed Hope out, but to a part of her, it sounded like heaven. Hope gulped past the dryness of her throat and finally lifted the blood bag to her lips, capturing the straw at the top between her lips as her eyes hesitantly moved to settle on Josie. The first suck on the straw made the blood flood her mouth almost instantly and naturally, she was overwhelmed with the urge to spit it out as the metallic taste flooded her taste buds but the desire to do that faded away as quickly as it had begun.
Hope released a soft sound as she quickly grew accustomed to the thickness of the blood on her tongue and it soon became something that she craved desperately. It was like a sip of cold water after spending an entire day running in insatiably hot weather. It tasted like heaven. She began to drink even more of the blood, barely noticing the fact that the weather was changing drastically outside of the school. Hope could feel her fangs finally coming out, same with the veins under her eyes as her eyes began to change color from their usual blue to the color of a fully activated tribrid. Hope finally stopped drinking and moved the blood bag away from her lips as she swallowed the last bit of blood on her tongue, feeling satiated at last. Hope was pleased that she couldn't hear any more of that awful ringing sound as the color finally returned to her face. She no longer looked sickly or like she was seconds away from collapsing. "Uh... Girls? How are you feeling?" Jed asked, his curiosity visible in the tone of his voice as his eyes worriedly moved from Josie to Hope.
