Ben had seen so many couples who were happy and in love over the course of his life but he hadn’t had that since Ashur died and even when he’d had it they’d had to keep it a secret because the people in their village never would have accepted them together. Now things had changed completely and he and Jed didn’t have to hide the fact that they were together, neither did Hope and Josie. Their friends and family knew they were together and they all accepted it and Ben was truly grateful for that. “You won’t hear any arguments from me,” Ben assured him, lifting their joined hands and pressing a gentle kiss to Ben’s hand as if to seal the deal. As Jed said ‘oh’, Ben felt a smile touch his lips. “It’s true,” he assured him. He was so used to having some kind of contact with Jed now whether that was holding his hand or an arm wrapped around his shoulder while they were sitting together and it really did feel strange to be around him and not have some kind of contact now. Right now it seemed so surreal for Ben to think that after five thousand years of being attacked by monsters all the time he wasn’t going to have to worry about that any longer. It was a relief to say the least and he knew that he wanted to enjoy every moment of his monster-free time. “That would be perfect,” Ben nodded. “Is there anything in particular you’d like to do or anywhere you’d like to go?” he asked, not sure if there was something that Jed had always wanted to do or not. If there was then Ben knew that he would make it happen. “Yeah, you did tell me after your mom called you out on Googling it,” Ben nodded, concern still written all over his face as his gaze rested on his boyfriend. “Promise me you’ll be careful?” he asked, knowing that he didn’t want Jed to end up getting hurt again. “I know you’ve already had one Bella Swan moment but you don’t need another.” As Jed spoke again, Ben found himself nodding. “Believe me, I get it,” Ben said gently. “I prayed too but you saved yourself and I’m so proud of you for that. You don’t need his help, you’re stronger than you know.” There wasn’t a doubt in his mind about that, Jed had stood up to his father and he had taken his place as Alpha when he had arrived at the Salvatore School as well. Jed had done so much when Jed’s own father and the angels had written him off and that wasn’t something that should be taken lightly. Ben hated the way his father seemed to think he could belittle all of them and get away with it. His words were awful and Ben could see the doubt in MG’s eyes and he had known that he couldn’t stand for it. Everything Ben had said about MG was true and thankfully it seemed to give him the strength to stand up for himself as well. “You’re doing a great job of it,” Ben assured him even though he knew that there was no way that his father would agree. It was Josie’s turn next and Ben gave Jed’s good hand a gentle squeeze as he stood up for his sister. Ben felt anger building within him again as his father continued to talk down to him. “I’m proud to be one of them. They’re much better people than you’ll ever be,” he said fiercely. Ben would be lying if he said that his father’s comments about his abilities didn’t hurt, the truth was that Ben didn’t know how to use them because he’d never had anyone to teach him but now it was becoming clear that he was going to need to learn so he was determined to do just that. “I fear it is you who doesn’t know what you’re up against. Underestimate us all you like but it will be your undoing,” Ben said, doing his best to keep his voice calm as he spoke but that calm demeanour melted away the moment his father said that he wanted to get rid of everyone who was different. “We’ll never let that happen,” he said angrily, knowing that there was no way that they were going to stand by and let his father do anything of the sort. Ben hated the fact that this was the person who had helped bring him into the world, he and his father were nothing alike and Ben had never hated anyone as much as he hated the angel. All of them were thrown back at once and Ben quickly got back onto his feet. “You call us monsters and yet you’re the one who attacked us,” Ben said, his hands balling into fists at his sides. He could see that both MG and Jed were fine after their encounters with his father but Ben still helped his boyfriend to his feet, needing to make sure that he was okay as Hope started muttering a spell. Hearing Hope’s leg snap was enough to have Ben whirling around and he made his way over to Josie, letting her siphon him thanks to the curse that still ran through his veins. She didn’t hesitate in throwing his father backwards and this time it was the angel who hit a tree hard, clearly surprised by the attack but it didn’t slow him down for long and he had already recovered by the time Jed and MG tried to attack him again. Thankfully Jed was only knocked to the ground but MG wasn’t as lucky, his neck was snapped and there was another sickening crack as his father stood on Hope’s wrist, breaking the bone under his weight. “Go help Hope, I’ll be okay,” Ben assured Josie, offering her a half smile as she let go of his wrist and rushed to her girlfriend’s side, immediately using spells to start healing her. Ben kept his gaze fixed firmly on his father as the angel approached and he resisted the urge to roll his eyes as he continued taunting him. For a moment he glanced around at his friends before lifting his gaze to meet his father’s levelly once more. “We’ll never surrender to you. If you want to kill all of us and every supernatural out there then we’re not going to just sit back and let it happen,” he said, surprising his father for perhaps the first time by being the one to close the distance between them rather than letting his father do that. Without hesitating Ben drew his first back and brought it forward quickly, his hand making direct contact with his father’s jaw and the force of the blow was enough to knock his father to the ground. “I may not know how to use my powers properly but I’m far from weak,” he said, picking his father up off the ground before throwing punch after punch at him. Each one connected and he could see the blood already trickling from his father’s mouth while other wounds began to open up from the onslaught. Slowly but surely his father began to regain his senses, though, and when he did Ben was knocked to the ground, his head hitting the ground hard which dazed him for a moment and his father took that chance to get his own back, hitting him repeatedly with full force until Ben was battered and bloody and completed dazed while his healing kicked in and tried to catch up. Josie simply nodded as MG confirmed that he would tell her if he changed his mind about wanting to be set up with someone. She wanted MG to be happy and if she could help him with that then she knew that she would do it but right now he wasn’t ready to accept any help and Josie could definitely understand that. Some of her friends had offered to try and set her up with someone before but she hadn’t agreed because she hadn’t felt ready. Back then she had still been trying to deny her feelings for Hope because she had felt sure that she would never feel the same but Josie knew that she was foolish for doubting that now. Before they got together Hope was her best friend but now she had become something so much more and Josie really was glad about that. She loved Hope and she knew that Hope loved her so as far as she was concerned she was incredibly lucky. Now Josie wanted all of her friends to find that same happiness and she knew that she just had to believe that in time they would. Josie had stayed quiet while Ben’s father insulted her but she had been studying him carefully and she offered Jed a grateful smile before turning her attention to Ben’s father once more. “You think you know us but you’re wrong,” she said, choosing her words carefully as she spoke. “All you see is what we are – what we were born or what we have been turned into. You can’t see beyond what species we fall into and because of that you’ll never see who we really are and I feel sorry for you. You call us monsters but you’re the one who turned your back on your son when he needed you and you’re the one who cursed him when he took matters into his own hands to save someone he loved. You’re the real monster here, not us. You can blame Ben all you like but the truth is that all of this started with you and if you’re going to hold him responsible then you’d better hold yourself responsible too.” For a long time Josie had worried that there was something wrong with her because she was a siphoner and she knew that there were witches and warlocks who looked down on people like her but the truth was that Josie wasn’t ashamed of what she was and she refused to let Ben’s father make her start doubting herself when she had worked so hard to feel comfortable in her own skin. As Ben’s father flung Hope against the tree Josie wanted nothing more than to go to her girlfriend and help her but before she could do that Hope was back on her feet and was making her way back over to them and Josie let out a sigh of relief while Ben offered her shoulder a gentle squeeze as she rejoined them. Josie could see that they were all worried about Hope but she said she was okay and Josie knew that they had to take her at her word right now but she knew that she would be making sure that Hope meant it later when they were alone. Josie hated what was going on right now and she didn’t hesitate in taking hold of Ben’s wrist as he made his way over to her, siphoning him and using her magic to fling his father backwards so that he hit the same tree that he had thrown Hope against not too long ago. Things seemed to go from bad to worse as once the angel had recovered MG’s neck was snapped, Jed was knocked to the ground and Hope’s leg and wrist were broken. This time Josie didn’t hesitate in going to her girlfriend when Ben told her to, concern written all over her face as she started healing Hope’s wounds as best she could. She hated seeing her girlfriend in so much pain so she did her best to take that away and help speed the healing process up. Once Hope was doing better Josie made her way over to Jed and healed him as much as she could too before finally making her way to MG. His situation was much worse, right now he was dead but she knew that in time he would come back and she used her magic to heal his broken neck and hopefully bring him back that much quicker. What she hadn’t realised, though, was that during the time she had been busy healing the others Ben’s father had turned on her and Josie managed to use an aneurysm spell to incapacitate him temporarily. “That’s more than enough of that,” he growled, the spell seeming to just anger him even more and before Josie knew it he was lifting her off the ground and tossing her far away, a cry escaping her as her back and head hit a rock with a sickening crack as everything went black and she passed out. – I freed myself from words never said –
"Hm, where do I wanna go? That's such an open-ended question, I feel like I can say something crazy like I dunno, Rome, and find myself there the next second." Jed said with a chuckle following as he seemed to think about it for a moment or so. "Honestly, I've kinda never stepped a foot out of Mystic Falls, so anywhere outside of it is fine by me." Jed nodded his head with a gentle smile resting on his lips.
"Oh, yeah. I was just proving that what I read was one-hundred percent accurate. I guess they weren't overreacting when they said that angels don't feel pain like we would. Unless you hit them with something that really hurts and truth be told, I have no idea what that is? A Bible?" Jed embraced his hand with a grimace following, hoping that keeping it still would help speed up the healing process. "I'm always careful." Jed offered back, but then he seemed to process that he was the only one with a broken hand here. "Okay, I promise. Promise me that you'll be careful too. I know it doesn't look that promising right now, but I'd much rather we get out of this fight with all of us intact, please. Including you." Jed added a moment later with a small smile resting on his lips. "Wow–" Jed chuckled at Ben's reference. "Good reference. Okay, no more Bella Swan-ing today." Jed's expression softened at Ben's words before he nodded his head slowly. "Thank you." There were times when he found himself hoping that the angels would answer this time, but each time, he felt nothing but disappointment. But if they had at least answered his prayer, then they would have dealt with his dad and Jed wouldn't have had to. If they had answered his prayers, he never would've had to run off. But then again, if that had happened, he wouldn't have had the chance to meet Ben because he would still be with his pack.
Jed quickly came to the realization that Ben's dad was one judgmental asshole who seemed to enjoy tearing them down with his judgment. He was acting all high and mighty for someone who abandoned his own son and then proceeded to curse him when he tried to save the person he cared about the most. What kind of father would do that? His attention shifted to Josie, his lips stretching to form a soft smile. She was right. The man continuously called them monsters while he was the biggest monster here. Not them. He had done so much worse and had hurt Ben terribly and then he dared to call them monsters. Jed's eyes shifted to settle on MG, giving him a reassuring nod of his head and a small smile which he returned.
MG, Hope, and Jed quickly got up from the ground after the angel's attack, each one of them looking like they really wanted to hurt the angel but it seemed as though their attacks weren't that effective and if they needed to hurt him, they'd need to use something else. Jed had no idea what that something was, really.
Jed didn't think today would progress into something like this, but as he looked around them and looked at Hope who was still attempting to get up despite the fact that she was injured and a – momentarily – lifeless MG on the ground, Jed quickly came to the realization that they really wouldn't be able to do much to hurt the angel. Jed wasn't any better, but he didn't have any additional broken limbs.
Hope was still trying to get up from where she was on the ground when Josie came to her to heal her. “I’m okay, Jo.” She assured her in a soft voice but her girlfriend still wanted to heal her. Eventually, the throbbing pain faded away and her body quickly healed. “Thank you.” Hope whispered as she flexed her wrist and tested the mobility of her leg, both working fine.
His eyes relaxed on Josie who risked her life to head over to where he was to heal him after helping Hope out. “Thanks.” Jed responded in a soft voice. “Hey, be careful, okay?” Jed gently placed his hand on top of Josie’s, offering her a small smile before he pushed himself up. Jed’s eyes moved to settle on MG, his lips pressed into a thin line. The way the man effortlessly snapped his neck truly showed how the man was capable of taking a life. If MG hadn’t been a vampire and a mortal creature, he’d be long dead by now. The thought of permanently losing MG made Jed sick to his stomach. Jed’s eyes widened as he noticed the way Ben had managed to make his father bleed. They had attacked the man quite a bit, but none of them were ever capable of making him bleed. It was definitely a lot of progress but then Ben’s father seemed to grab the reigns of control as he began attacking Ben back. “Ben!” Jed yelled from where he was standing as he began rushing to him. Ben’s father seemed to shift his attention elsewhere and Jed was momentarily distracted with making sure that Ben was alive that when he turned to look at the angel, he was making his way to his sister. Time seemed to slow down as Jed watched with horrified eyes as the angel lifted his sister off the ground and tossed her away. “No!” Jed yelled at the same time Hope called out Josie’s name.
“I need to— I need to check on Josie. Don’t you dare die on me, you hear me?” Jed was aware that Ben was immortal, but still — he was still so worried about Ben’s father actually being able to kill him. “We’ll get you back to the school and the witches there will help you heal faster. I just— I just need to check on Josie. I can’t lose her.” Jed had heard the sickening crack and it wasn’t a good sign but Jed didn’t want to think about that right now. The witches will be able to help her, or even Hope’s blood. God, he can’t lose her too.
Please…
Jed realized his mistake that once again, he was praying but he knew better now. No one was listening. No one was going to listen. Jed pushed himself up and saw that Ben’s father was stopping Hope from getting to Josie which only made matters worse because Josie needed help right away.
“Hey, asshole!” The angel’s attention moved to him. “Why don’t you pick on someone your size?” Jed said with a growl falling from his lips as the glow of his red eyes became apparent. “Very well. Perhaps you ought to join Ashur where you belong.” The man said with his head held high. “Ben’s true curse is not the fact that he is hunted by monsters. It is the fact that he is so much like a plague. A disease that festers below the skin of his friends and loved ones.” Jed began making his way even closer to the angel.
“Man, you must really like the sound of your own voice.” There was a scoff that escaped Jed’s lips as he attacked the angel, successfully capturing his attention which gave Hope the time that she needed to rush to her girlfriend’s side. “We get it. You hate him. But did you even make an effort to get to know him? No, you didn’t. Because if you had taken the time to talk to him, you’d know that he’s so goddamn amazing and he’s worth every last bit of love. It’s a shame that he couldn’t get it from his own father.” Jed sneered as he kicked the angel in the chest, watching him stumble back a small step. “But that’s fine, we’ll give him the love he deserves. We will make him feel appreciated because that’s what he fucking deserves, asshole.”

━ the heart wants what it wants━
Hope wanted nothing more than to close the distance between herself and her girlfriend who was laying on the floor, unmoving. But the second she made her way closer to her, the angel was there, an obstacle in her way. It seemed as though he was aware of the gravity of the situation and that’s why he didn’t want to move out of the way. He didn’t want Hope to save her. “Move the hell out of my way.” Hope demanded through gritted teeth, her eyes focused solely on the angel who merely quirked an eyebrow, acting so much like a parent witnessing his child throw a tantrum with cold and emotionless eyes. It bounced effortlessly on Hope’s nerves and angered her, but she held back, her fists clenched tightly by her side. She can’t afford involving herself in a fight with the angel because it would only slow her down and with Josie, every second mattered, especially since she was able to hear the sound of something cracking.
Hope desperately needed something — or someone — to distract the angel and that someone winded up being none other than Jed who gave her a barely visible nod of his head. When Jed initiated a fight between him and the angel, Hope took advantage of the distraction to run the rest of the way to her unconscious girlfriend. “Jo? Jo, please, wake up.” Hope shook Josie’s body, her heart leaping into her throat. “Baby, please. I need you to open your eyes for me, can you do that? Please?” Hope moved her wrist up to her lips to bite down on the flesh until she tasted the metallic taste of her own blood. There was a moment of hesitation because she worried that she would wind up doing the same thing that she did to Rafael. Back then, she had intended to heal his wounds but he ended up dying the same night which made him come back as a hybrid. She was worried that her blood would turn Josie into something that Josie didn’t want to become. But a selfish part of Hope didn’t want to lose Josie. It was that very same part that made her gently open Josie’s mouth and pressed her wrist against her girlfriend’s cold lips, hoping that she wasn’t too late but Ben’s father had kept her away from Josie for too long and it seemed like her injuries were too severe, too. “Josie?” Hope gently brushed her girlfriend’s hair away from her face, her eyes searching Josie’s face. “Come on, baby. Wake up. Please.”

“Maybe not quite the next second but I could definitely take you there. I think you’d like Rome,” Ben admitted. It was somewhere that he had always enjoyed visiting and with what he knew about Jed he had a feeling that it would be somewhere that he would enjoy too. “In that case we could always visit a couple of places if you like,” he suggested, knowing that there wasn’t any real reason why they had to stick to just one. “I have no idea, maybe Castiel or Jack will know,” Ben shrugged, knowing that they were going to need all the help they could get in order to stop his father. Now they knew his plan there was no way that they were going to let him eradicate all supernaturals around the world and they were going to have to work together in order to stop him. Ben gave Jed a look that spoke volumes as he said that he was always careful before nodding as Jed promised him that he would be careful. “I promise,” Ben nodded, knowing that he didn’t want Jed to be worrying about him when they had so much more to think about. “We’ll get through this together,” he agreed, hoping that it would end up being the truth. “I’m glad to hear it,” he grinned as Jed said no more Bella Swan-ing today. Jed had already ended up breaking his hand by punching Ben’s father so he knew that he didn’t want anything else to happen to him. It made Ben angry to think that the angels had turned their back on someone as purehearted as Jed but everything that had happened had brought him here and made him who he was and that was someone Ben loved dearly so he knew that it wasn’t all bad. Ben couldn’t deny that he was proud of Josie when she stood up to his father. He knew that she was right, it was his father who was the monster rather than them and hearing her put it like that was enough to make him realise that he couldn’t believe a word that his father said. It was clear that the angel hated him for some reason that Ben would perhaps never understand but he couldn’t bring himself to care about that. He might not have his father’s approval but he had plenty of people around who cared about him and he had earned the love of an incredible man so he knew that he was truly blessed. It wasn’t long before MG was down for the count and Hope and Jed were both injured. Ben let Josie siphon him so she could stand against his father before telling her to go and help Hope. He knew that they were going to need the others at full strength if they were going to stand a chance at getting through this so he really hoped she would be able to help them while Ben took the fight to his father. For the first time it seemed Ben was able to do something that truly shocked the angel, he was able to hurt him and Ben knew that he had to take advantage of that while he had the chance. Unfortunately his father was eventually able to turn the tables and Ben found himself on the ground covered in blood with his back resting against the wall of building but he could already feel his wounds starting to heal. “I’m okay,” Ben assured Jed as he rushed over to him before a horrified look crossed Ben’s face as he saw his father send Josie flying with ease. “Josie!” he cried out, horrified that his father could even think of hurting someone as gentle as her. “I won’t, I promise. Go to her,” Ben said, knowing that someone had to go to her and unable to see Hope from where he was. Looking around them it was clear that they were struggling, MG and Josie were both down and Jed was engaging his father alone. With every word the angel spoke it was clear just how much he hated Ben and the truth was that Ben had no idea what he had done to deserve it but he really didn’t care. His father was an awful person who needed to be stopped and Ben knew better than to let his words get to him. They needed help but calling the rest of the squad wouldn’t do any good because they would never get there quick enough so instead he prayed to the only people he could think of who might help. “Jack, Castiel, I don’t even know if you can hear me but we really need your help,” he breathed before pushing himself to his feet despite the fact that his body was still healing and making his way to Jed’s side. “You can think what you want about me because I don’t need you. I have people here who love and accept me I feel the same about them. They’re all so much better than you could ever be,” he said as he started attacking his father again, doing his best to time his attacks with Jed’s so they would do the most damage possible. “You’re not, you’re hurt. Let me help you,” Josie said, her tone making it clear that she wasn’t going to take no for an answer as she started trying to heal Hope. She knew that Hope’s healing would be able to take care of it but it would take too long and as far as she was concerned Hope was always the best chance they had so Josie knew that her girlfriend needed to be at full strength. “You’re welcome now be careful, I love you,” Josie said, pressing a gentle kiss to her girlfriend’s lips before heading in Jed’s direction next. Josie knew that it was risky but she knew that she couldn’t just stand there and do nothing either. Her magic could affect Ben’s father to an extent but she wasn’t physically strong or fast like the others were so she knew that she needed to keep them at their best so they could fight. Jed’s injuries weren’t anywhere near as bad as Hope’s so healing him didn’t take as long and she offered her brother a smile as he thanked her. “That’s what sisters are for,” she said before nodding as he told her to be careful and turning her hand in his so she could give his hand a gentle squeeze. “I will. You be careful too,” she said, knowing that the last thing she wanted was to end up losing Jed again. Once she had managed to heal her friends as much as she could, Josie looked up to see Ben’s father advancing on her. She was able to take him down for a minute but too soon he managed to shrug off her magic and she soon found herself flying through the air. In that moment it was like her life literally flashed before her eyes no matter how cheesy that sounded and she was met with images of her parents, Lizzie, Jed and the rest of the family, her friends and the one that lingered the longest was Hope. Just the thought of how hurt they were all going to be if something happened to her was enough to make her heartache but there wasn’t long to dwell on that before she hit the rock and everything went black. Tie seemed to lose meaning after that but sometime later sensation started returning to Josie and a groan escaped her lips. She could a coppery taste on her tongue and someone was brushing her hair away from her face but it was Hope’s voice that pulled her back. “Hope?” she breathed as her eyes opened, her gaze fixed on her girlfriend even though she could still see spots on the edges of her vision as the darkness threatened to pull her back under once more. “What happened? Has he gone?” she asked although she soon heard the sounds of fighting nearby and her expression turned to one of alarm. “Hope, you need to help them. Please don’t worry about me, save my brother and everyone else,” she pleaded. Josie’s whole body felt numb which she knew wasn’t a good sign but in a way it was a relief that she wasn’t in any pain. “You have to stop Ben’s father.”HOPE MIKAELSON

– I freed myself from words never said –
“I know, it was a joke.” Jed said with a chuckle falling from his lips. “Cause you’re my super rich boyfriend and all.” Jed added a moment later. “I have no idea how to speak — wait, what language do they speak in Rome? Uh, Rome is the capital of…” Jed’s brows furrowed together. “Italy! They speak Italian. I almost said they speak Romanian just ‘cause it has Rome in it. Yikes, honestly.” Jed’s eyes seemed to light momentarily at the mention of visiting a couple of places. “Sure, I’d like that.” Jed said with a soft smile tugging at the corner of his lips as he spoke.
Jed nodded his head slowly, his eyes momentarily moving away from Ben to settle on Ben’s father, watching him quietly. “Yeah, maybe.” Jed didn’t want to get his hopes up but he really hoped they would be able to help. There was a hint of doubt on Jed’s expression when Ben said that they will get through this together but he nodded his head nonetheless, his lips stretching to form a soft smile. It seemed like he had every right to doubt that they would be able to get through this alive because MG was down for the count and he had gotten injured along with Hope before Josie had healed them.
It wasn’t long before Ben was down too and Jed quickly made his way over to where his boyfriend was. Ben assured him that he was okay but Jed immediately couldn’t say the same thing for Josie because she was thrown away by Ben’s father and the sound that he heard made his heart drop. He looked torn between going to Josie and staying by Ben’s side. Ben’s assurance was what got him to finally move. He did, however, stop when he saw how Ben’s dad strategically placed himself between Josie and them. He used himself as a means to distract Ben’s father so that Hope could go to Josie.
Jed’s eyes flashed red with annoyance and anger as he contemplated his next attack but then Ben was joining his side. “So, why don’t you go straight to Hell, you judgmental prick?” Jed attacked Ben’s father and this time, Ben was right there with him and he could tell that with their attacks combined, they were doing the most damage possible.

━ the heart wants what it wants━
Hope felt a soft smile form on her lips when her girlfriend refused to leave her and insisted on healing her. “I love you too. You be careful too, you hear me?” Hope said in a soft voice as she returned the kiss until they parted ways. Hope watched her girlfriend make her way over to Jed next to heal him. “Okay,” Jed promised before he finally pushed himself off the ground, no longer slowed down by his own injuries. He wiped the blood away from the edge of his lips with the sleeve of his flannel. Hope could feel her entire world begin to shake with the threat of watching it all crumble into nothing as she watched the way her girlfriend laid unconscious on the ground, looking pale as all color was drawn from her face.
Hope felt a ray of sunlight begin to peek through the stormy clouds when Josie’s eyes opened. “Hey, there. I thought I lost you for a second.” Hope felt a soft smile form on her lips as she moved a little closer to her girlfriend, her hand cupping her girlfriend’s cheek. “You scared me,” Hope added a moment later before she processed her next question, causing her to gently shake her head. “No. Still here.” Hope knew that it won’t take long for her girlfriend to hear the sound of Jed and Ben fighting Ben’s father. “What? I can’t leave you like this. I need to stay with you.” Hope shook her head, frowning slightly. Though she knew that Jed could get seriously hurt if Ben’s father even used the slightest hint of celestial power. He wouldn’t be able to withstand it. Hope nodded her head slowly, her eyes momentarily leaving Josie to turn her attention to Ben’s father, murmuring a spell under her breath that seemed to freeze the man who was about to strike Jed.
She used her magic to twist his hand until she heard it snap, though she knew it won’t hold him back for long. She turned her head toward Josie, her eyes finally moving away from Ben’s father to look at her girlfriend. “That should buy us some time to—” Hope stopped when her eyes relaxed on Josie. “Jo?” She called out in a soft voice, her eyes widening in alarm. “No, no, no. Don’t do this to me. Josie?!” Hope cupped her girlfriend’s cheeks to tilt her head so she could search Josie’s eyes but they were so — hollow. So devoid of life.
“No…” Hope felt tears fill her eyes as she pressed her forehead against her girlfriend’s, her tears hitting the soft skin of Josie’s cheeks. She held her girlfriend’s lifeless body as close as possible until the sound of Jed’s voice reached her ears as he called out Josie’s name before he let out a sound of pain as Ben’s father struck him again.
Hope laid down Josie’s body carefully on the ground before she stood up from where she was on the ground. Hope looked like a mess when she turned around to look at Ben’s father. There were fresh tears still falling from her eyes but there was a much darker look in her eyes as her eyes flashed bright blue, filled with hatred and vengeance. Hope knew the consequences of participating in black magic, but at that particular moment, nothing mattered to her.
Hope spoke the spell out loud, watching with dark satisfaction as Ben’s father began choking on his own blood, his vessel being the one to absorb the spell, not him. But it still slowed him down. It still hurt and in that particular moment, that was enough for Hope. She could feel the pull of dark magic as she spoke the spell with so much ease, watching as Ben’s father continued choking and bleeding from his eyes, nose, ears, and lips. Hope used her magic to throw the angel back as her spell came to an end. Hope made her way over to Ben’s father, each step filled with dark intent. She wanted nothing more than to tear the man’s heart out with her own bare hands. She had never felt such anger before…
Actually…
It resembled the anger she had felt when she was under the influence of Ben’s curse but this time, there was no curse making her feel this way. It was just Ben’s father. She watched as the man got up from the ground and wiped away the blood with ease. “You are doing nothing other than proving my point.” Hope used a spell to make the man’s mouth disappear. “Shut the hell up,” Hope said through gritted teeth. Jed could hear the sound of Jed crying as he called out Josie’s name again and again. It made her wish she could make it all go quiet. She didn’t want to hear the sound of a brother mourning over his dead sister. She didn’t want to remember Josie’s face. “You’re right, you know?” Hope stepped closer to the angel and his silent quirk of an eyebrow told her that he was pleased to hear her say that. “About me being a monster. Because thinking about it now, killing you isn’t going to be a daunting task for me. No. I’m going to enjoy it.” Hope stepped forward to attack the angel again, but there was a hand on her shoulder that stopped her.
“Enough.” It was a voice she had only heard once. She turned her attention to see a man in an outfit that belonged to a tax accountant more than anything else. “You hurt my friends.” This time, she heard a voice she knew all too well. Jack. Innocent but strong little Jack who looked like he could barely hurt a fly. Though his eyes were glowing and she could tell he had every intent to kill the angel but one look from the tax accountant was enough to make him stop. “Brother, you must stop this. Enough blood has been shed today. They are kids.” For the first time, Hope was able to detect something in the man’s eyes and it wasn’t pride or any judgment. He was scared, either of Jack or Castiel. She wasn’t entirely sure. “This is not the end.” The man said through gritted teeth before he suddenly disappeared, the sound of his flapping wings was the only thing left behind after his departure.
“Were you just hanging back this entire time?” Hope’s voice came through and it was not kind as her eyes relaxed on Castiel. “No, I— I was unaware of the fight. I heard a prayer calling out to me.” When she saw Jack nod, she realized that one of them had prayed to both of them. “I’m sorry, Hope.” It was Jack’s voice this time. “I don’t need your sympathy, Jack.” She could see the way Jack flinched from her peripheral vision as she watched Jed make his way over and judging from the frown etched onto his features, he was set on the same warpath that she was on. “How do we kill him?” Jed asked with anger visible in the tone of his voice. “I’m sorry, Jedidiah. I can’t help you.” Jed released a scoff at the answer he got back from Castiel. Figures. Angels and their inability to be useful even for once. “Can’t, or won’t? You know, for being created from light and everything, you sure fucking lie a lot.” Castiel released a soft sigh instead, his eyes moving away from the angry wolf. “You must understand. After we fell from Heaven, we decreased in numbers. There aren’t many of us and even though he may have lost his way, I can’t kill him.” Hope released a scoff after listening to what the angel had to say. “Screw this. Screw you. You don’t want to help us? That’s fine. We don’t need it. We’ll find a way ourselves. Thanks for nothing.” Hope said through gritted teeth as she bumped her shoulder against Castiel while walking away from him so she could head back to where Josie was. Though before she could take another step, Ben’s father reappeared before her eyes, and the pain that she felt the following moment was something she couldn’t easily put into words. When she looked down, there was a silver blade stuck into her chest. The angel’s angry face was the last thing she saw before her vision went black.

“I guess I should have seen that one coming,” Ben chuckled. He often forgot that he had so much saved away but Jed liked to remind him of it every so often and it always amused Ben when he did. As Jed struggled to think of the language before mentioning Romanian, Ben shook his head in amusement. “Please tell me you didn’t just say that. If we do go there remind me not to let you talk to the locals in case you upset them. My Italian is rusty since I haven’t been there for a while but we should be able to get by,” he teased before feeling a smile touch his lips as Jed confirmed that he would like to go to a couple of places. “That’s settled then,” he nodded, unable to deny that he was looking forward to it. “I know it looks bleak now but try and stay positive,” Ben said gently. Jed and Hope were both hurt while MG was dead but he would resurrect soon enough for Ben truly was grateful for that. He had never met an angel before but his father was much stronger than Ben had ever thought he would be and he was already starting to think that he was going to have to find some way to learn how to use his powers properly before their next encounter. It would be nice to think that they would be able to defeat his father that day and be done with it but Ben knew deep down that wasn’t going to happen so they were going to have to be better prepared next time. It was clear to Ben that Jed was torn between staying with him or going to Josie but there wasn’t a doubt in Ben’s mind about where his boyfriend should be. Ben’s injuries would heal and he could already feel them starting to do so but Josie was mortal and she didn’t have the supernatural healing that the rest of them perhaps took a little for granted sometimes. If something happened to her then there wouldn’t be any coming back from it for her and Ben knew how much Josie meant to Jed so he was relieved when Jed started heading in her direction. Unfortunately Ben’s father seemed to have other plans in mind, he was angry with Josie for healing all of them and he didn’t want them to have the chance to save her so he had put himself between Hope and Jed and Josie. That in itself was enough to make anger burn within Ben once more and he pushed himself to his feet and over to Jed. “Keep this up and we’ll send you there ourselves,” Ben said, his voice laced with hatred as he and Jed started attacking in unison, making sure that their attacks did as much damage as they could. They were doing their best to fight his father and Ben could see that they were doing some real damage but then the angel went to attack Jed and he suddenly froze. Ben looked up in confusion to see Hope using a spell but she had saved Jed so Ben was beyond grateful to her. The fight continued and Ben lost himself in it, unaware of anything else that was going on until Hope got to her feet and started using her magic against his father. “No,” Ben breathed, his heart breaking at the sight of the tears that were rolling down Hope’s cheeks. She was crying but more than anything she looked angry and Ben knew what had happened, Josie was gone. Hope seemed to have it covered after that so Ben reached for Jed, pulling his boyfriend into his arms as he called out Josie’s name over and over again. “I’m so sorry, Jed,” he said gently even though he knew his words wouldn’t really mean anything to him right now, tears rolling down his own cheeks at the loss of his fallen friend. Ben had managed to bring Jed back when he’d died but he didn’t know how he had activated that power or how he could do it again, he had no idea how to help Josie now. Sometime later two new voices came and Ben recognised the second instantly but not the first. Ben wasn’t able to see the look in his father’s eyes but their arrival was enough to have an effect on him and suddenly Ben’s father was gone. For the first time his gaze came to rest on Jack and Castiel and Ben offered them a small nod in appreciation. “Thank you for coming, I wasn’t sure if you would,” he admitted. Jack was his friend but he had never met Castiel so he had known that it was a long shot although it seemed to have paid off. “Lost his way?” Ben repeated in disbelief. “You didn’t hear the things my father said to us. He sees all supernaturals as monsters and he wants to rid the world of all of us,” he explained, hoping that Castiel would change his mind and decide to help them after all. “No one is safe from him,” he added, his heart sinking as his gaze moved to rest on Josie. Hope was already making her way back over to her girlfriend but suddenly Ben’s father reappeared once more and before he knew it his father had stabbed her. “Hope!” he cried out, rushing over to her in the hope that he could do something to help her but it was already too late, she was gone. “Now do you see what he’s capable of?” he asked angrily as he looked up at Castiel. “He killed Josie and Hope and he cursed me so I’ve been tortured for the last five thousand years. Who knows what else he has done. He has to be stopped.”JED SALTZMAN

Josie knew why Hope had tried to stop her from healing her injuries, Hope always tried to look out for her and Josie loved her for it but as far as she was concerned it was time for her to look out for Hope for a change. It wasn’t long before her injuries were healed and Josie felt relief flood through her as she saw that Hope looked so much better. “I will, I promise,” she nodded as Hope asked her to be careful too, her heart skipping a beat as Hope said that she loved her too. Josie knew that she was lucky to have found what she had with Hope, the other girl was her best friend and the girl she loved and Josie knew that she wouldn’t have it any other way. Josie wanted to stay with Hope and fight by her side but she knew that she couldn’t do that, instead she needed to help the others and Jed was next. His injuries weren’t as severe as Hope’s but they were still bad enough to cause him pain and Josie knew that she couldn’t let that continue. As Jed confirmed that he would be careful, Josie offered him a smile before moving on to help MG. It was tempting to stay in the darkness that had enveloped her but Josie felt something pulling her back and she offered Hope a weak smile as she spoke. “You can’t get rid of me that easily,” Josie said although she hated how shaky her voice sounded. “I’m sorry I scared you,” she said gently. She tried to move to lean into Hope’s touch but couldn’t and she knew that that wasn’t a good thing. She couldn’t feel anything even though she knew that she should be in a lot of pain right now but she knew that she couldn’t tell Hope that. If she did then her girlfriend would be too focused on her and she wouldn’t have her head in the fight and right now Josie knew that she needed to make sure that Hope and the others got out of this alive even if she knew in her heart that she wasn’t going to join them in that. She was terrified of what would happen when she died, after all she had no idea what happened to siphoners considering so many witches and warlocks thought they were abominations but she knew that it wouldn’t be long before she found out. “No, you need to be in the fight Hope. They can’t do this without you,” Josie pleaded. She had always known that they were all stronger together but right now her brother was in the thick of the fight by the sounds of it and she knew that her family couldn’t lose him too. “Look after them and yourself,” she added gently. Feeling the last of her strength leave her the moment Hope looked up and helped her brother and Ben, in that moment Josie took her last breath as a couple of tears rolled down her cheeks. – I freed myself from words never said –
Jed let out a chuckle at Ben's words before he nodded his head a few times. "Okay, then. I'll let you lead if we do decide to head to Rome." Jed said with the same grin still locked on his lips. It was crazy how quickly the mood shifted when Ben's father made himself visible. He nodded his head at Ben's words before his attention drifted back to Ben's father, hanging onto the last remaining bits of his positivity or else he would just feel consumed by those pessimistic thoughts rushing through his head.
Turns out, Jed had every right to feel pessimistic because his eyes relaxed on Hope and the sight of her crying was enough to make him understand what had happened. Josie was gone. His sister was dead. Jed couldn't do much other than call out his sister's name, again and again, hoping that by some miracle, she would answer. The feeling of Ben's arms wrapping around him broke the dam that was holding his tears back. "Josie..." Jed could barely recognize his own voice as he called out to his sister again, this time his voice was quieter, muffled by the material of Ben's shirt. He couldn't find the truth to hug back, but he didn't pull away.
Jed eventually found the strength to pull away from Ben, wiping the tears away with the back of his hand. He needed to ask Castiel for a way to kill Ben's father. He needed to make him pay for killing his sister. Jed was one hundred percent certain that Hope was fixed on the same thing because right now if there was one thing that they agreed on, it was vengeance.
But asking Castiel for assistance with useless, as expected. It only made Jed angrier. "Look, we get it, you want to protect your own kind. But you have to understand, he won't stop coming after us. If you truly give a damn, then you'd at least give us something to work with." Jed could see the way Castiel's expression showed how torn he was. "I'm sorry." The answer he received was one that he expected but it didn't make him any less angry. "I don't want your apologies! He killed my sister! Is that supposed to make me feel better? Because I don't feel any goddamn better" Jed said through gritted teeth, his anger replacing all the pain that he was feeling deep down. All that grief. He was much better at handling anger than he was at grief.
"I understand, Jedidiah. But would you give me information on how to kill your own kind? Your already nearly extinct kind? I have betrayed them many times, I will not do it again. I can't. So, please..." That damned sound appeared again and when he turned his attention over to where Hope was, Ben's father was standing before her. "Hope!" Jed yelled as he moved to her but it was already too late. "No!" Unlike Josie, he knew that Hope wasn't fully dead but that didn't make it any better because he knew what that meant for Hope. Slowly, Jed pulled the blade that was lodged in her chest. It was very strange-looking, but he could've sworn he had seen it somewhere.
Castiel's lips parted to let out a shaky sigh. The loss of another student wasn't what Castiel had wanted. He was once again looking torn and from the way Jack was shifting weight from one foot to the other, growing restless by the second, he knew that Jack was mere moments away from revealing everything to them. "I will report to the leader of Heaven. We will see what can be done regarding this that does not include killing another one of our kind." That was all Castiel offered before he disappeared from sight, leaving Jack behind who looked pained with how things had played out.
"I'm sorry, I really want to help... But I don't want to disappoint Castiel. Please understand his point of view. He has lost many of his sisters and brothers in the fall and he was hated by them for the longest time, as well. He's worried that if he betrays his own kind again, there won't be any forgiveness left in their hearts. The leader of Heaven is a fellow angel that he's close with and she trusts him. He doesn't wish to break her trust." Jack explained in a soft voice, his eyes moving to rest on Milton who was beginning to wake up, looking disoriented for a moment as he looked around him. The smell of blood surrounding him was enough to make him understand all too quickly just what had happened.
Jed didn't answer Jack, ignoring the pleading eyes that followed him like a lost pup. He made his way over to his sister instead. "Hey, if you hear me out there, I'm not giving up on you, you hear me? I'll find a way to bring you back. No matter what it takes." Jed whispered in a soft voice, nodding his head a few times before he carried his sister in his arms, taking her to where Hope and the rest were. "Help me bring Hope into the school. We'll have to be quiet, we can't let the students see them like this. Or... us, for that matter." Jed asked Ben, giving him a quick nod of his head as he began making his way to the school. Even though their wounds had healed, they still looked bloody.
MG used his speed to check the inside of the school before he came back to report that everyone was either inside of their dorm room or have gone home already. Jed brought them into his dorm room where he laid Josie's body gently on his bed. "We can't tell mom and dad yet. Or Lizzie. It'll break their hearts. I need... I need to find a way to bring her back. I won't give up on her that quickly." Jed shook his head stubbornly, refusing to accept the truth. This can't be it.
"We need to tell Hope's family, though there's a good chance her dad will murder us all, so that's going to be really damn fun." Jed let out a humorless chuckle, his smile not even reaching his eyes so he stopped trying to smile.
"You wouldn't happen to know how to bring Josie back, would you?" Jed asked Jack who slowly shook his head, his brows pulled together into a small frown. "Um. I never tried it. I'm sorry." Jack offered back in a soft voice. "Wait. But I might know someone who can help. Don't tell Castiel I'm telling you this, though. He says we shouldn't mess with the balance by bringing dead people back to life." Jed stopped pacing left and right when he heard Jack's words. "I'll bring him over." And with that, Jack was gone, leaving all five of them inside Jed's dorm room. He left to see Henrik and explain what has happened.
"We had so much high hopes of killing him, didn't we?" Jed mumbled as he sat down on the edge of the bed, his hand resting on top of his sister's cold one. "I should have known better because when has something ever gone our way?" Jed could feel the tears filling his eyes again but he refused to cry again as his thumb traced over the knuckles of his sister's hand, staying silent not long after.

━ the heart wants what it wants━
Hope felt a soft smile appear on her lips as she listened to Josie. "Good. Because you promised me that you'd be careful, too." She looked down at the state that Josie was in. It wasn't good at all. "It's okay... It's okay. Don't worry about me, let's just focus on you, okay?" Hope said with the same smile still resting on her lips but it was visible that she was worried, still. Hope's lips parted and closed as she listened to Josie, shaking her head at first because she really didn't want to leave Josie's side, not when it wasn't guaranteed she'd be able to heal properly. But then Josie asked her to look after them as well as herself and Hope knew that she could never deny her girlfriend anything. "I will." She promised in a soft voice and only momentarily pulled her gaze away from Josie to deal with Ben's father but that was a mistake on her part because when she looked back at Josie, she was gone.
From there, Hope lost control over her own anger and sadness and unleashed it all on Ben's father. But it wasn't just him who got a taste of the cruelty of her anger. Jack and Castiel received the same harsh treatment, the only difference was that she wasn't using her fists or her magic. As Hope was on her way back to Josie, Ben's father reappeared before her and that was when she felt a sharp pain in her chest as the blade pierced her chest and hit her heart which effectively put an end --- momentarily --- to the Tribrid's life as she collapsed on the ground lifelessly.

“I’ll hold you to that,” Ben chuckled, knowing that he would be more than happy to show Jed Rome and as much of the world as he could. Ben had travelled over the course of his long life but the truth was that he had never really taken too much time to appreciate much of it. Most of the time he had found himself trying to find somewhere he could live in peace without having to worry about being attacked by monsters but in the end he had realised that a place like that just didn’t exist for him. Josie and Hope had changed all of that though, they had given him a chance at living his life without dying over and over again and he was beyond grateful to them for that. Unfortunately that happiness was short-lived because Ben’s father showed up and just one look at Hope’s face was enough to tell him that Josie was gone. Hope looked devastated and Ben couldn’t blame her, he knew how much Hope loved Josie and there really had never been a doubt in his mind about that. Straight away Ben found himself reaching for Jed as Hope fought his father, his arms wrapping around his boyfriend and even though Jed didn’t hug him back he didn’t pull away either so Ben simply held Jed while he cried, knowing that there really wasn’t anything else that he could do at this point. Letting go of Jed as he turned his attention to Castiel, Ben made sure to stay close to his boyfriend and he was right there with Jed and Hope when it came to knowing that his father needed to die. It was the angel who was the real monster, not any of them, and the fact that he had taken Josie’s life proved it. “It’s not just us he’s coming after, it’s everyone. This town is full of people who are supernatural and if my father has his way then they’ll all be wiped out, including Jack,” Ben said, hoping to convince Castiel to help them even though he could see that the angel’s mind was already made up. Castiel had made his decision but it was the wrong one and Ben hated that the angel wouldn’t help them. It was clear that Jack wanted to but something was holding him back so Ben knew that they couldn’t count on him either, they were going to have to figure this out on their own. Soon Castiel was explaining why he wouldn’t help them and Ben shook his head, his head quickly snapping up as his father reappeared and attacked Hope. Ben wasn’t really sure how the whole Tribrid thing worked but he knew enough to know that Hope would come back although Josie wasn’t as lucky. The blade Jed pulled out of Hope’s chest was strange and it was unlike anything that Ben had ever seen before. It was different but he could almost feel power radiating from it so Ben knew that it might come in useful against his father. As Castiel said that he would report to the leader of Heaven and see what could be done that wouldn’t end up in angel dying before disappearing, Ben rolled his eyes. “You do that. We’ll keep trying to find a way to kill him,” Ben muttered, glad that Castiel wouldn’t be able to hear him. As Jack explained Castiel’s point of view, Ben let out a sigh. “We understand his point of view but look at what he’s done, Jack. His vision of the world is twisted and he won’t stop until he kills everyone. We can’t let him hurt anyone else,” he said, knowing that there was no way that they were going to let his father go through with his plan. Ben thought about going with Jed when he made his way over to Josie but he could tell that Jed needed a moment alone with his sister so Ben decided to hang back with Jack although his gaze remained fixed on Jed as he reached Josie’s body. It wasn’t long before he had picked Josie up and had carried her over to them and Ben nodded as Jed asked him to help bring Hope into the school. “MG, keep this safe alright?” he asked as he handed him the blade before picking Hope up and nodding at Jed. “I’ve got her, don’t worry,” Ben assured him, waiting for MG to check inside the school before they headed inside and up to Jed’s dorm room. Setting Hope down gently on the spare bed, Ben nodded as Jed said that he couldn’t tell his family yet. “I’ll follow your lead,” he said, knowing that Jed knew his family best. “We’ll find a way to bring her back, I promise. We’ll do it together,” Ben said, knowing that he didn’t want to give up on Josie either. She had been such a good friend to him ever since he’d arrived at the Salvatore School and she had worked so hard to find a way to break his curse so he knew that he owed her that much at least. “Sounds like that’s going to be a lot of fun,” he nodded even though there was a hint of sarcasm in his voice because he knew that Jed was right, her dad probably would kill them all. Looking over at Jack as Jed asked if he knew how to bring Josie back, Ben frowned as he said he had never tried it. “Your secret’s safe with us,” Ben nodded as Jack told them not to tell Castiel. He wasn’t sure who Jack was going to get but he knew that they would find out soon enough. “Sometimes things go our way but none of us have ever faced an angel before, we had no way of knowing how strong he was,” Ben said, sitting down next to Jed on the edge of the bed and letting his hand rest against Jed’s back before a thought struck him. “Jack may not have tried it before but I brought you back so I’ll try to do the same for Josie,” Ben promised, moving to the side of Jed’s bed and trying to feel the way he had when Jed died once more. Ben remembered a pain that was so much more intense than any he had ever felt before and he remembered the love he felt for his boyfriend. It was different with Josie because she was only his friend and they didn’t have that connection but as he opened his eyes he noticed that his hands were glowing the same way they had when he’d brought Jed back and he could see that Josie’s wounds were starting to heal. Unlike with Jed, after her wounds healed there was no sharp intake of breath, though, and Ben frowned once more. “I don’t understand. Her wounds have healed but I can’t bring her back. It’s almost like she isn’t completely gone after all,” he explained, really not sure what was going on with her. A short time later Jack returned with someone Ben recognised, it was one of the teachers at the school. “Hope? Josie?” the man asked in disbelief, his gaze sweeping over each of the girls in turn before he looked over at Jed, Ben and MG. “What happened?” Henrik asked as he made his way to his niece’s side first, checking that her wounds were healing properly. Henrik had no idea what he was going to tell the rest of the family, Hope meant the world to all of them and even though they had all always known that she would activate her vampire side at some point he was pretty sure that none of them had expected it to happen this soon and Henrik couldn’t deny that seeing Hope like this was enough to break his heart. She should have had so many more years ahead of her before going through this but now everything had changed and Henrik knew that he was going to do his best to be there for her when she woke up. It was clear to Henrik that Hope was in transition so he knew that she would be fine but Josie was gone too and Henrik knew how much his niece loved her. Moving over to the second bed, Henrik was surprised to see that Josie’s wounds had healed already and he nodded as Ben explained that he’d managed to heal her but something had stopped him from bringing her back. Henrik had already linked himself to the witches and warlocks he had befriended so that the spell wouldn’t overpower him either but when he tried to bring her back there was something stopping him as well and he lifted each of Josie’s eyelids and checked her eyes carefully, letting out a breath as he took a half step backwards. “Hope must have managed to make Josie drink some of her blood, she’s in transition too,” he explained, knowing that everything would change when the two girls woke up. “Can you guys get some bloodbags from the store please? They’re going to need them when they wake up,” he asked Jack and MG, hoping that the two of them would oblige before turning to look at Jed. “I can invite the girls in when they wake up so there’s no need to worry there but have you told your parents yet?” he asked, not sure whether Jed had been able to bring himself to do that yet. – I freed myself from words never said –
“Your father will be dealt with, the right way.” Castiel promised with a nod of his head following. As much as he wanted to help the grieving students find a way to make his brother pay, Castiel couldn’t betray his brothers and sisters once again, He couldn’t betray Hannah’s trust. With Hannah by his side, he will make sure to find a suitable punishment for the angel who seemed set on wiping out the supernatural species. Castiel soon disappeared from sight, leaving Jack behind who gave Castiel a nod that explained he wanted to stay with his friends.
Jack’s expression shifted into one of surprise at Ben’s words, his head tilted slightly to the side. He looked away a moment later, pretending as though he didn’t catch that. He didn’t want to stand in their way, after all. “I understand,” Jack said in a soft voice. For the first time, Jack was torn between picking sides. A part of him wanted to pick his friends because they meant a lot to him and what had happened to both Josie and Hope was wrong, while the other part wanted to pick Castiel because he understood why he didn’t wish to explain everything to the others. For now, though, he followed them, giving himself the chance to make up his mind while also being there for his friends.
“Okay.” MG held the blade in his hand and when he blurred inside the school, he took the chance to hide the blade somewhere safe — somewhere only he knew. Then he quickly checked his surroundings and came to report back to his friends that the area was clear. MG and Jack followed after Jed and Ben as they headed into Jed’s dorm room and proceeded to lay the girls down on the bed. MG looked away, unable to keep his eyes on Josie for long because it made his heart hurt so much. He needed to be strong.
“Alright.” Jed offered Ben a small smile, his eyes moving away from his boyfriend to settle on his sister and then Hope. “Tell me about it…” Jed trailed off with a soft sigh falling from his lips, knowing that breaking the news won’t be easy and honestly, the Mikaelson family scared the hell out of him. Except for Henrik, he was kind. The others, however? Absolutely terrifying. He had met Rebekah once when she dropped Hope off and Jed nearly ran the other direction when Rebekah raised an eyebrow at him upon catching him staring at her with that intimidated expression of his. She had merely scoffed and drove away, shaking her head as she did so. Yeah… Not his proudest moment. Hope’s dad was the original hybrid for God’s sake, how was he supposed to break the news to him without risking getting his head chopped off?
“Thanks.” Jack’s lips stretched to form a sincere smile before he disappeared from sight to find Henrik. Jed gently rubbed his sister’s knuckles with his thumb, holding her hand into his own, his heart aching at the fact that her hand felt so limp in his own. So cold, too. “Yeah, sometimes. These times are starting to feel few and far between nowadays.” Jed gnawed on his bottom lip momentarily, his eyes focused on his sister’s hand. He just couldn’t bring himself to look at her when she was like this.
Jed’s expression turned into one of confusion when Ben told him that he will try to bring Josie back since he had done the same for him. Jed slowly released Josie’s hand from his own as he stood up from where he was sitting. Jed gulped past the lump in his throat as he watched Ben and Josie closely and when Ben’s hand started to glow, his eyes widened in surprise. He could see that Josie’s wounds were starting to heal, but after they healed, there was nothing. Josie still looked like she was still stuck in that deep slumber. “What?” Jed frowned in confusion at Ben’s words. Not completely gone? But that… That didn’t make any sense.
Was she in a coma of some sort? But... That didn’t make sense, either. Jed could hear the gears in his brain shifting and turning. His only salvation came in the form of Henrik Mikaelson, Hope’s uncle. Jed’s lips pressed into a thin line as Henrik asked what had happened. “Ben’s father happened,” Jed replied, his voice was quiet. “We couldn’t stop him in time… I’m sorry.” He knew that Hope meant a lot to Henrik and even though she wasn’t completely gone, it still can’t be easy to see her like that. She looked peaceful, almost. If he didn’t know any better, he would’ve thought she was sleeping, but unfortunately, he knew better.
Jed watched as Henrik did his thing and when he lifted Josie’s eyelids, he tilted his head in confusion. His eyes widened in surprise when he heard that Josie was actually in transition. “In transition? Oh my god…” It all made sense now… No wonder Ben couldn’t bring him back, same with Henrik. It was because she wasn’t fully gone. She was currently in the process of coming back to life.
MG and Jack both nodded and left the room to retrieve the blood bags as Jed struggled to wrap his head around it all. His sister was in transition. Jed gulped past the lump in his throat and when he heard Henrik’s voice, he snapped out of his racing thoughts. “No… I haven’t.” Jed mumbled, his voice sounding small. “I don’t even know what to say…” But they deserved to know, Jed knew that much. Jed bit down on his bottom lip momentarily before he fetched his phone out of his pocket, his thumb hovering over his dad’s contact without being able to call him for a few minutes. “Shit…” He mumbled under his breath. “Man, this is gonna suck.” Jed breathed out with a humorless chuckle falling from his lips as he quickly wiped his tears away. He knew he should be grateful that Josie wasn’t gone for good, but he knew that things won’t be getting easier from there. He had seen what the lust for blood can do with Rafael. He didn’t want to see his sister go through the same trouble. Jed closed his eyes and pressed the dial button before he could lose that last bit of faux courage and waited for his dad to pick up before he explained the current situation that they were in and told his dad that he needs to bring mom and come to the school before he eventually ended the call. “I was right. God, that sucked.” Jed breathed out, fresh tears filling his eyes but he refused to let them fall as he released a shaky breath. Jack and MG entered the dorm room after knocking on the door once, each one of them holding two blood bags. “We brought extra, just in case,” MG said with a nod of his head following. Jed momentarily wondered how MG looked so unaffected by the smell of blood. It was strong enough that Jed was able to smell it. “I guess now we just… wait.”

Ben could understand why Castiel wanted to make sure that no more of his family died but the truth was that Ben wasn’t sure if there even was a way to stop his father that wouldn’t result in him dying. He had made it clear that he wasn’t going to stop until he had eradicated everyone who was supernatural and there was no way that they could let that happen. There were so many people at the school who just wanted to live their lives in peace and even more out there in the world who wanted to do the same. The way his father saw it if people weren’t humans or angels then they didn’t deserve to live and that couldn’t be further from the truth. Even though Jack wanted to stand by Castiel’s decision it was clear that he didn’t want to leave them just yet and truth be told it was a relief to know that they had someone else on their side in case his father came back. Hope and Josie were both already dead and even though Hope would come back Ben knew that they wouldn’t be able to stand against his father anywhere near as well with their numbers dwindling the way they were. Ben had always hated his father but truth be told he couldn’t believe the angel had actually gone to such lengths to hurt them all. Hope and Josie hadn’t done anything wrong at all and his father had killed them anyway and in doing so he had sealed his own fate as far as Ben was concerned. Nodding as MG took the blade, the walk back to the school seemed to take a lifetime but finally they reached the familiar building and once MG had confirmed that the coast was clear they headed inside. Reaching Jed’s room they set the girls down and if he hadn’t known better it would have almost looked like they were sleeping but Ben knew better and just knowing what had happened to them both was enough to make his heart ache. No matter what happened next Ben knew that they would face it together the same way they always did. He wasn’t sure how they would be able to bring Josie back but he knew that they had to find a way. “Her family is really that bad?” he asked as he looked over at Jed. He had heard a bit about the Mikaelsons but he had never met any of them apart from Henrik so he wasn’t sure if the stories were actually true or not. Hope activating her vampire side was inevitable from what he had heard but Ben wouldn’t be surprised if no one had expected it to happen this soon so there was no telling how they would take it or how Hope would cope with it when she woke up either. Nodding as Jack left to go and find Henrik, Ben’s face fell at Jed’s words. “I know. I’m so sorry for bringing all of this into your lives,” he said gently. If he could protect all of them from everything then he knew that he would do it in an instant and if leaving would be best for them then Ben knew that he would have to find a way to do that but he knew that wasn’t the answer. His father had already known all about them and chances were he knew about the others at the Salvatore School and beyond as well. None of them were safe and Ben had seen the look in his father’s eyes, he would have made this move sooner or later whether Ben was around or not so at least now he could do his part and fight to protect the people he loved. Ben didn’t know what he was doing, he had healed Jed’s body and brought him back out of instinct but he knew that he had to at least try and do the same for Josie. As it was he was able to heal her wounds but there was something stopping him from bringing her back and he simply nodded as Jed questioned what he’d said. “It’s hard to explain but it’s almost like she’s still in there. I know that doesn’t make any sense.”Looking up as Jack returned with Henrik, Ben watched in surprise as a knowing look crossed Henrik’s face when Jed explained what had happened. “I’m so sorry,” Ben said sincerely but Henrik shook his head. “Some angels can be judgemental bastards, I know that better than anyone,” he said, not stopping in what he was doing for a moment. Catching the confused look Ben gave him, Henrik knew he should probably explain. “I was pulled out of Heaven years ago but a few years ago some angels caught up with me and decided to take me back and they killed the woman I love. They wanted to punish me for everything my family has done and for the fact that my mother created vampires and they didn’t care who they hurt in the process. Some angels are good but not all,” he explained. It was a very short version but it was enough, he could see that in Ben’s face. “None of us wanted this to happen this soon for Hope but she’ll be okay. She has her family and she has all of you guys. She’ll get through this,” he said, no hint of doubt in his voice as he spoke. Henrik loved his niece dearly and he knew that she would adjust in time. The loss of Josie, however, was something that Henrik wasn’t sure that Hope would be able to cope with and Ben wasn’t either. As Jed spoke Ben reached for his boyfriend’s free hand and gave it a gentle squeeze. They had thought that Josie was gone but she wasn’t, she would be coming back to them after all. “Never underestimate the lengths my niece will go to in order to protect someone she loves,” Henrik said, unable to deny that he was proud of her for everything that she had done. Looking over at Jed as Henrik asked whether he’d told his parents, Ben’s expression softened a Jed spoke. “It’s okay, you can do this,” he said gently. “We’re all here for you but if it gets too much pass the phone over to me and I’ll talk to them,” he offered even though he had a feeling that it wouldn’t come to that. All he could do was listen as Jed explained what had happened and Ben wrapped his arm around Jed’s shoulders once he had hung up. “It did but you got through it. You did really well,” he said gently, giving Jed’s shoulder a gentle squeeze as he did so. “Thanks guys,” Henrik said as MG and Jack returned before Ben nodded as Jed said all they could do now was wait. A while later Ric and Jenna arrived and Ben watched as they embraced Jed, their eyes already red from tears by the time they arrived. It wasn’t too long ago that they had arrived at the school after learning that Jed had died and been brought back and now Josie was in transition. Things seemed to be happening so fast and there was a part of Ben that had thought they might send him away considering that it was his father who had caused this but they didn’t. Instead Ric clapped Bem on the back and offered him a nod before making his way to the other side of the bed and taking Josie’s free hand in his after checking in with Henrik and seeing how Hope was doing. “Are you boys okay?” Ric asked instead, aiming the question at Jed, Ben, MG and Jack.
