– I freed myself from words never said –
“I can’t believe angels could be such assholes,” Jed said with a frown tugging at his features. “Well, I guess I can’t say that all of them are assholes because I actually met an angel. He was there to pick up Jack from school, you’ve met Jack, right? He was nice.” Jed nodded his head with a quick nod of his head following. ”But your father, though? He’s a whole new breed of asshole. I can’t wait to punch him.” Jed was still very determined to punch that man for being such an asshole.
“It’s not a bad thing, no.” Jed shook his head with a half-smile tugging at the corner of his lips. Learning that Tara could literally suck souls out of people’s bodies was enough to make a shiver rush down his spine. He wondered how people looked when they were soulless. Was it similar to a vampire with no humanity?
Jed nodded his head to reveal the fact that he had definitely purchased an outfit that didn’t include any flannel in it. Once it was time for them to go and find the others, he looked a little hesitant, mainly because he was still feeling terrible for the fact that he had been rude to them when all they wanted to do was help. “Oh, we don’t give up,” Hope said with a half-smile resting on her lips. Hope was finally done with what she was doing and she knew that Josie was just about done, too. “Yeah, we are.” Hope agreed with Josie who managed to put exactly what Hope was feeling into words. She hated the fact that Ben had died. She was so sure it was going to work.
Jed returned the squeeze of his hand and finally parted his lips to say something. “I’m sorry, too. I was being a total douchebag to you guys. I shouldn’t have taken my anger out on you guys like that.” Jed said with a small frown tugging at the corner of his lips. Hope offered him an understanding look before she rounded the table. “Don’t worry about it, man. We get it.” MG said with a half-smile resting on his lips. “No hard feelings, Jed.” Hope offered, her tone light-hearted before her attention rested on Ben, his words making her head tilt for a moment before she quirked an eyebrow, taken aback by Ben’s suggestion.
Hope seemed to consider it for a moment before she nodded her head a few times. “Okay.” Hope’s eyes drifted to look at Josie. “Remember our plan, right? If I look like I’m about to attack him, stop me.” Hope told her girlfriend in a gentle tone before her attention drifted to Jed who gave her a small nod of his head, looking on guard, and honestly, Hope didn’t blame him. "Okay, let's head for the gym. Should give us the privacy that we need." Hope said with a nod of her head following as she began making her way to the gym with the others. Jed followed them, his hand still holding onto Ben's.
Hope murmured a spell that sealed the entrance. It was just for caution, really. Hope turned and gave Ben a nod of her head, looking hesitant for the first time before she started shifting into her wolf form, the sound of her bones cracking was loud in the otherwise quiet gym. When the sound of her bones cracking faded away, all that was left behind was a white wolf. At first, the wolf just looked around her, taking everything in until she felt something begin to bloom in her chest, something she couldn’t resist.
Hope made a noise as she took a small step, resisting the powerful pull that she felt in the pit of her stomach. It was an ugly and raw emotion. A whole new type of anger that she never experienced before. Kill, kill, kill. That was the mantra that played in her head on loop. The sound of her claws digging into the floor made Jed grimace. “Hope?” Jed could see that Hope was fighting against something.
Hope’s head lifted at the call of her name and the second her eyes lifted and they relaxed on Ben.
Hurt him. Make him bleed. Kill him.
Hope started growling, her lip raised to showcase her sharp teeth as her eyes flashed bright blue. "Oh, this is a terrible sign." Jed breathed out as he took a small step forward, his frown digging deep into his features.
She had never felt such an urge to hurt someone before and despite how hard she tried to resist it, she couldn’t. She wanted nothing more than to hurt Ben. She wanted him to experience the worst pain possible, then she wanted to sink her teeth into his neck until his heart stopped beating. Hope leaned back on her hind legs and leapt straight for Ben.

“Neither can I,” Ben agreed before his expression turned thoughtful for a moment. “Yeah, I’ve met Jack. Can you remember who the angel you met was? If he’s accepting of Jack then perhaps he will be of me as well,” he shrugged. Whether that would end up being true or not Ben had no idea but he couldn’t deny that he had found himself feeling curious about other angels at different points over the course of his long life. “You’re doing better than me, I’ve never met an actual angel,” he added with a grin. They had all stayed away when he had gone up to Heaven and ever since he returned none of them had reached out. Ben had unknowingly hidden himself away from them all but if there was one in town then he knew that perhaps it might be time to reach out. “I know you can’t and I actually want to see you get that chance,” he admitted. That was one of the first things that Ben had said when he’d learned about his curse and Ben knew that he wasn’t going to deny Jed the chance if it presented itself. “Just got to make sure you don’t do anything foolish like putting yourself in danger for me again,” Ben teased, nudging Jed’s arm playfully with his own. He knew why Jed had given up his life to save him from the dragon and Ben really did love him for it but he knew that he didn’t want Jed to go through anything like that again, not if he could help it. He deserved to live a long and happy life and Ben wanted to make sure that he had the chance to do just that. The best way Ben knew of doing that right now was by breaking his curse or at least stopping the monsters from going after him all the time so that he and Jed could stop looking over their shoulders wondering when the next monster was going to show up. It wasn’t any kind of way to live but it had been Ben’s life for thousands of years and he had been starting to think that it was never going to change. The first attempt at the bracelet hadn’t worked but he honestly hoped that their friends would have been able to figure something else out so that they could finally have a fresh start and Ben would get to see Jed wear whatever he’d gone to the effort of buying that wasn’t flannel. “So I see. I really appreciate it,” Ben said sincerely. They had already stood by him more than anyone else ever had and he knew that he would always be grateful to them for that. As Hope agreed with what Josie had said, Ben offered her a half smile as he looked over at her. “If I have to die a hundred times to test the bracelet and get it working it will be worth it because it will still be nothing compared to the amount of deaths I’ll have ahead of me otherwise. It really is okay,” he said gently, not wanting either of the girls to blame themselves for what had happened. Ben had been through this so much already but just the idea of it working eventually was enough to make it worth it as far as he was concerned. Ben offered Jed a smile as he squeezed his hand in return and he couldn’t deny that he was proud of Jed when he apologised. First MG told him that it was alright and then Hope did and Ben gave Jed’s hand another squeeze. That was two out of three and as he glanced over at Josie he could see that she wasn’t angry with Jed either. “Definitely no hard feelings. You saw someone you love die, I don’t think we could ever hold what you said against you,” Josie said, giving Jed’s shoulder a squeeze before handing the bracelet over to Ben. Ben couldn’t help but feel like he was putting too much on Hope when he asked if she could be the one to help him test it this time, he knew that he was asking a lot but when he’d died earlier the last face he had seen had been that of a stranger and he knew that he didn’t want to go through that again so soon. This time it would be Hope as a wolf instead which again was something that he hadn’t seen before for obvious reasons but it would still be Hope and that was a comfort at least. “Thank you,” he said, offering her a grateful nod before she turned to look at Josie. “Don’t worry, I’ve got this. I won’t let you hurt him,” Josie assured her girlfriend gently before they all headed in the direction of the gym at Hope’s suggestion. Naturally Ben was still holding Jed’s hand as they headed there and he only let go once the spell was in place to seal the entrance and make sure that they wouldn’t end up with any unexpected guests this time around. He could see that Hope was hesitant for a moment but she soon seemed to move past that and started shifting. The sound of her bones breaking was awful but he knew that Hope wouldn’t have suggested it earlier if she wasn’t willing to do it and for a moment he took in her wolf form in surprise, never having seen a werewolf that wasn’t trying to kill him like this before. That soon changed, though, and an alarmed look formed on Ben’s face as Hope started growling at him once he had put a bit of distance between himself and the others. She seemed to be doing her best to fight it but as her eyes flashed bright blue Ben knew that was it. “I guess at least we know she isn’t immune to the curse,” Ben breathed, doing his best to stay still and not provoke her. It turned out she didn’t need any provoking, though, because before he knew it she was leaning back on her hind legs and leaping straight for him. Thankfully Josie kept her word and she managed to stop Hope but she still sent a worried look in Ben’s direction. “I’m not sure how long I can hold her before I’d need to put her to sleep. Quick, the bracelet,” she said and Ben nodded quickly slipping the bracelet onto his wrist even as his eyes remained firmly fixed on Hope. “Please work,” he breathed. JED SALTZMAN

– I freed myself from words never said –
'Castiel was his name. He said he was Jack's uncle." Jed said with a quick nod of his head following. "Or did he call himself Jack's third dad? Honestly, I'm not sure. It was a weird encounter and I was kinda intimidated even though the guy looks like a tax accountant." Jed said with a chuckle falling from his lips not long after. "But he did seem like a nice guy," Jed added a moment later, his smile still present on his lips. "Oh, that's only because I was teaching Jack some basic maths equations." Jed's shoulders lifted and dropped in a quick shrug, remembering all the questions that Jack tossed his way. He could tell that the younger was very curious about everything and anything. It was adorable. Jed's lips stretched into a grin when Ben told him that he can't wait to see him punch his dad. "I'm definitely going to enjoy it."
"That's very sweet, Ben. But uh, I'm pretty sure I'll age really quickly and quite possibly die from a heart attack if I see you die one hundred times, so uh, have mercy on my poor heart and don't expect to die that many times." Jed spoke up from where he was, a breathless chuckle falling from his lips.
Jed's eyes softened when Hope, MG, and Josie all made it clear that they forgave him. "Thank you, guys. I really appreciate that." Jed said with a gentle smile resting on his lips, appreciative of the fact that they were so understanding. "Thank you," Hope said in Josie's direction when she assured her that she won't let her hurt Ben.
Jed was anxious as he watched Hope shift into a wolf, the sight of her made his heart speed up because he was still unsure whether Hope would be affected by the curse or not and it seemed like she was which only alarmed him more. "Yeah... I guess her theory was right." The way her eyes changed reminded him so much of Tara's eyes and it was enough to make him take a small step forward but Hope's smaller and more agile body suddenly jumped in Ben's direction and this time, it was Josie who stopped her.
Hope's loud growls were still present as she snapped her teeth at the air, wanting nothing more than to sink her sharp canines into Ben's flesh to satisfy that itch under her skin. She had never felt this way before and it was terrifying, to say the least.
Jed took another step forward, his eyes relaxing on the bracelet that was now wrapped around Ben's wrist. His eyes quickly moved to Hope as she continued snapping her teeth at the air, her growls nearly feral now, any traces of Hope long hidden behind her bright blue eyes. They were filled with rage and cruel intent.
Hope snapped her teeth in Josie's direction as if demanding to be released from the hold that she had over her, her teeth bare. She eventually did manage to break free from Josie's magic and she took that moment to leap at Ben again, tackling him to the ground and that was when she suddenly felt that awful desire to hurt Ben fade away. That mantra of kill, kill, kill faded away, too. Hope's teeth were seconds away from sinking into Ben's neck and as she slowly realized where she was and what she was doing, she got off of Ben. She huffed and waited for that urge to come back, but she felt nothing but peace.
Hope didn't shift back to her human straight away and instead tested the boundaries of the bracelet by stepping closer to Ben again but she didn't feel that urge to kill Ben again. Her eyes went back to normal, no longer glowing bright blue. She waited for a few more long minutes before she eventually shifted back to human, using her magic to shift back into a clothed form. It was one of the many benefits of being a tribrid. "It worked." Hope breathed out a sigh of relief as she stepped closer to Ben. "I'm sorry, for almost killing you." Hope spread her arms to offer a hug, her lips stretching to form a small smile.

Ben nodded as Jed explained about the angel he’d met. “Maybe when everything with my curse is over I’ll ask Jack if he could introduce us. It sounds like perhaps not all angels are like my father,” Ben admitted thoughtfully. He would be the first to admit that he had spent a long time thinking that all angels were just as bad as the angel that had fathered him, abandoned him and cursed him for thousands of years but now he wasn’t so sure. As Jed spoke again, Ben couldn’t stop a smile from forming on his face. “Why am I not surprised that you were helping someone again?” he asked, his expression gentle as he looked over at his boyfriend. That was Jed all over, he really was trying to be a better person and Ben was proud of him for it. Now Jed seemed to want to help everyone around him and it was incredible to see. “I thought you might,” he chuckled when Jed said that he was going to enjoy punching his father. There really wasn’t a doubt in Ben’s mind about that and truth be told it was something that he knew he would be quite happy to watch as well. Ben’s heart ached when Jed said that he was pretty sure he would age quickly and might die from a heart attack if he saw him die a hundred times. Ben was used to going through that many deaths in less than a year and the truth was that he sometimes forgot that Jed and the others weren’t used to the frequency of the attacks the same way he was. Ben hadn’t really thought much of it when he had said it but he could see how worried Jed was and Ben offered him a reassuring smile. “I’m not, I just wanted to take some of the pressure off,” he admitted. “I have faith in Hope and Josie, I know it won’t take them that long to figure this out,” he assured his boyfriend gently. Ben really did believe in the two girls and he knew that they would figure something out. Even though he had known that they would forgive Jed it was still a relief to see it happen and Ben could tell that Jed felt relieved as well. He had been worrying about it so much and Ben knew that he hadn’t wanted that for Jed so he was glad that he didn’t have to worry about that any longer. Ben really wasn’t sure how this next test was going to go but it had to be said that he was glad they were starting out on a better foot anyway. He knew that he was asking a lot of Hope but she seemed willing to go along with it and for that he truly was grateful. Deep down he had known that Hope would be affected by his curse just like everyone else was but it was still alarming to see her jump at him like that and he couldn’t deny that he was relieved when Josie managed to stop her. It was clear that Hope still wanted to kill him and he took a step back as he put the bracelet on, hoping against hope that this time it would work. He was surprised when Hope snapped her teeth in Josie’s direction and he could see that Josie was surprised as well because the colour drained from her face but she stood her ground and Ben was grateful to her for that. Unfortunately her magic didn’t hold for quite long enough and Hope was able to tackle him to the ground before he could even get out of the way. He did his best to hold her at arm’s length and stop her from being able to kill him like she so desperately wanted to it seemed but she was strong, stronger than he had thought that she would be. Still, he knew that he couldn’t give up so he kept trying to hold her back and he let out a shaky breath as he realised that Hope had stopped trying to sink her teeth into his neck and moved off of him. Once Hope was clear of him Ben was able to get to his feet and he looked around at the others, not sure what they made of this either. He wanted to believe that the bracelet worked but at the same time after what had happened last time he didn’t want them to be lured into a false sense of security either so he wasn’t too sure what to do. Ben stayed still as Hope started making her way over to him again but this time her eyes changed back to normal and that was when he truly started to let himself begin to relax a little. Eventually she shifted back and Ben could hardly believe it as she said that it worked before stepping closer to him and holding her arms out for a hug. Without even thinking about it he stepped forward and wrapped his arms around her as he hugged her tightly. “I’m the one who asked you to do it so no hard feelings,” he assured her, offering her a smile as he took a half step back. “Thank you so much, all of you. You have no idea how much of a relief it is to know I won’t have to worry about being killed again,” he admitted, his voice breaking slightly as he spoke while his eyes shone with tears that he quickly blinked away. For five thousand years he had been suffering through this but now the girls had found a way to help him and it really did seem like it was too good to be true. “You know, you’re actually pretty scary as a wolf,” Ben teased as he nudged Hope’s arm gently with his own. “What was it like?” he asked, hoping that perhaps now Hope might understand his curse a little better. – I freed myself from words never said –
“Okay.” Jed said with a soft smile resting on his lips. Castiel didn’t seem dangerous and it really did seem like he cared a lot about Jack. If Jed didn’t know any better, he’d assume that Castiel was Jack’s dad, but the younger had revealed to him before that his father was actually Lucifer which had surprised him greatly at the time. “Oh, c’mon, it’s nothing. Just basic maths.” Jed said with a chuckle falling from his lips not long after. Jed was definitely going to enjoy punching Ben’s dad in the face for all the trouble that he had put Ben through. He deserved it, after all.
“Okay, that’s good to know.” Jed said with a smile tugging at the corners of his lips already when Ben told him that he wasn’t going to let himself die a hundred more times. Jed really did feel the same way. He trusted Hope and Josie, he knew they were going to try everything in their might to help out.
Jed’s eyes were wide as he watched the way Hope had snapped her teeth in Josie’s direction. He stepped forward, standing closer to Josie to protect her, just in case. But Hope seemed to only have one target in mind and when the hold that she had over Hope faltered, Hope took that chance to attack Ben. “No!” By the time he had reached Ben and Hope, she had stopped. Jed paused, too, his eyes widening slightly. She stopped.
Jed didn’t want to get his hopes up, but he couldn’t help it. After stopping, it didn’t seem like she was going to attack him again. “Are you okay?” Concerned eyes relaxed on Ben as Jed asked whether Ben was okay or not. Jed could tell that Hope was purposefully staying in her wolf form for longer than needed, just to make sure that the urge to kill Ben won’t come back and only seemed to shift once she was certain.
Hope wrapped her arms around Ben, returning the hug with a gentle smile resting on her lips. She released him from the hug not long after and stepped back. “We’re really glad that it worked, Ben. You deserve to know what life is like when you’re not spending it running from monsters. We’ll find a way to break it completely.” Hope promised with a quick nod of her head following, her smile still present on her lips. Jed’s eyes softened at the sight of tears in Ben’s eyes. “I’m really happy for you, Ben.” Jed said with a soft smile tugging at the corner of his lips. “Hope’s right. You really deserve this.” Jed said, the same smile still resting on his lips. “Can’t wait to kick that curse’s ass.” MG said with an optimistic grin on his lips.
Hope took the chance to look over at Josie because she could remember snapping at Josie. “Jo?” She called out softly. “Are you okay? I’m so sorry, for snapping at you like that. I couldn’t control it.” She said with a guilty look on her face as she reached out for her girlfriend. Her attention drifted back to Ben when he nudged her arm after telling her that she was pretty scary as a wolf, the comment making her laugh. “Thank you. I’ll take that as a compliment.” She said with a grin resting on her lips.
“It was just this weird emotion—” Hope frowned slightly as she tried to explain it. “This raw anger that I felt. It was unlike anything I had ever experienced before and trust me, I’ve been angry before.” Like when she had gotten angry at Landon… But this was different. “I just wanted to hurt you. I kept hearing this voice in my head telling me to make you bleed… To kill you.” Hope said with a frown tugging at her features. “It was like, I couldn’t see anyone other than you and you were like, this big red target and I’m suddenly a bull in an arena or something,” Hope said with a quick nod of her head following, her eyes relaxing on Ben once again.
“It was just so intense and I tried so hard to resist it but it was really, really strong.” Hope released a soft sigh, her frown still visible on her features. “Your father really wanted you to suffer when he cursed you with this. It’s so powerful and filled with dark intent.” Hope shook her head as she reached her hand up to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear. “Which is why we’re going to find a way to break this curse,” Hope added a moment later with a determined look on her face. “And if we somehow can curse his dad with it, that would be perfect,” Jed mumbled under his breath, knowing it was impossible to do such a thing but he could dream, right?

“It was still nice of you to help him,” Ben said, a smile touching his lips as he gave Jed’s hand a gentle squeeze. He really wasn’t surprised that Jed had decided to help Jack because that was the kind of guy that Ben knew him to be. Jed had said that he used to be a bully but if that was true then he had definitely changed now and Ben knew that that wasn’t a bad thing. This version of Jed was incredible and it was one that seemed to make Ben fall for him more each day if that was even possible. He had yet to come across any angels but hearing that there was one that didn’t seem too bad was enough to fill Ben with hope that perhaps there were some out there who weren’t like his father after all. “I won’t die again if I can help it,” Ben assured Jed. He had died more times than he cared to admit and the truth was that he was sick and tired of it. Each time the pain was incredible, something that he was pretty sure was intentional since his father had apparently wanted to make him really suffer when he cursed him, and Ben knew that he didn’t want to go through that again if there was a way to stop it. That was why he had made his way to Mystic Falls in the first place, he had been a last ditch attempt to break his curse but if he was honest he hadn’t really expected to find anyone who could really help him. He had never met anyone like Jed and the squad before, though, and Ben knew that he really was lucky to have them. Ben wanted to move closer to Josie as Hope snapped at her, he wanted to put himself between the two of them but he was certain that would only make matters worse so instead he stood his ground although he did notice that Jed moved closer to Josie and he was glad about that. Thankfully Hope’s attention soon shifted back to him and Hope moved quicker than Ben was able to react. He was only just able to hold her at arm’s length, using all of his strength in order to do so, and he was surprised when she stopped attacking him but he couldn’t let himself believe that it had worked until she was able to shift back. “I’m fine. I’m lucky she stopped when she did because I’m not sure how much longer I would have been able to hold her off for,” he admitted as he got to his feet. Truth be told he was a little shaken by it all but he had asked Hope to do this and he was grateful that she had. Hugging Hope tightly, Ben felt a gentle smile touch his lips as she spoke. “Right now I’ll take what I can get, even this feels far too good to be true,” he admitted. “I’ve been cursed for so long I don’t really remember what it’s like not to be.” He had spent over twenty years of his life without being cursed before Ashur died but he had spent thousands of years being subject to his father’s curse. Now it felt surreal to think that the monsters wouldn’t be trying to kill him any longer but it was everything that he had been hoping for and more. As Jed spoke, Ben’s expression softened. “Thank you for never giving up on me,” he said gently as he pulled Jed into a hug. “Thanks to all of you for that,” he added as he looked around at all three of them. “I’ve never had friends like you before, I’m lucky to have you guys,” he said before laughing as MG said he couldn’t wait to kick the curse’s ass. “I think we’d better take it one step at a time right now, this is already a win,” he chuckled. Ben looked over at Josie as Hope called her name and a smile touched his lips as Josie didn’t hesitate in moving close to her. “It’s okay, I know you didn’t mean it,” Josie assured her gently as she wrapped her arm around Hope’s waist. “You know I’m not going to hold it against you,” she added as she leaned forward and pressed a kiss against Hope’s lips. “You should, you just might not want to let Landon see you in your wolf form. I think he’s scared about of you already,” Ben chuckled and that was enough to have Josie laughing as well. “You got that right,” she grinned. Josie frowned as Hope explained what the curse was like. “How can someone do that to their own child?” she asked, unable to get her head around it. “All you did was take magic from Heaven and give it to the humans in your village after your father refused to help you, you don’t deserve anything like what Hope just described.” Ben had never truly understood what the curse was like for the person on the other end before, he had guessed that it hadn’t given them a choice about whether to kill him or not but he hadn’t known that it was that intense or that it would be telling them do cause as much pain as they could. “I wish I could say I’m surprised but I’m not. I met someone who knew my father once and he made it sound like I was an experiment. I guess as far as my father is concerned, I’m a failure,” Ben shrugged. He definitely didn’t seem to be what his father had wanted him to be considering that he had never met the angel but the truth was that he didn’t care anymore. “Here’s hoping we can find a way to break it and sever that tie to my father once and for all. I swear if I ever meet him I’ll make him experience some of the pain he’s put me through,” he added. He was never going to forgive his father for this, there was absolutely no way. “It would be good if we could pass the curse on to him,” Ben nodded in agreement with Jed although he knew that it was probably a long shot. – I freed myself from words never said –
Jed felt a soft smile rest on his lips at Ben's words as he listened to his boyfriend. He just wanted to do whatever he could to make up for his terrible actions in the past, he wanted to erase the bad memories that most students had of him before he started to change. He wanted to leave the world with a good print behind, just in case, something happens to him before he goes through with his plans of becoming a hybrid. It was one of the many reasons he was spending a lot more time with his pack these days, just in case. He knew that by turning into a hybrid, he won't be their Alpha anymore. A part of him was also checking on who he could leave behind as a leader of the pack to take over his place. He wanted to plan things ahead because he didn't want to make that decision abruptly and selfishly. Jed's expression softened at Ben's words when he said that he won't die again if he can help it. "I know," Jed assured him in a soft tone of his voice, knowing that his boyfriend was going to try everything he could to avoid dying again.
Jed nodded his head a few times in an understanding manner. He had never seen Hope like this before. She was usually a lot more in control over her own powers and her anger, but this was a whole new side of her and it was a dangerous side. But thankfully, things played in their favor for once when the bracelet seemed to actually work. It was definitely a lot stronger this time around and it seemed to make Hope snap out of it. Jed's expression softened when he saw the two of them exchange hugs, the sight making a soft smile appear on his lips. The same soft expression remained as he listened to Ben speak. He could tell just how much this meant to Ben. A soft smile formed on his lips when Ben thanked him for not giving up on him. Jed returned the hug, wrapping his arms tightly around Ben as he released a relieved sigh before he finally leaned back. "I'd never," Jed said with a half-smile resting on his lips. Hope's lips became prominent on her lips when Ben told them that he's never had friends like them before. "Well, in this case, we're glad that Jed and Dr. Saltzman found you. I'm glad our paths crossed." Hope said with a soft smile tugging at the corner of his lips. MG nodded his head in agreement with Ben with a chuckle falling from his lips. Right. They should definitely take it one step at a time.
Hope relaxed visibly at Josie's assurance, her eyes carrying all the love that she felt for her girlfriend as she stepped closer and wrapped her arms around Josie, returning the kiss. Jed and MG couldn't help the chuckle that they let out at the sight of Landon coming face to face with Hope's wolf form. "Oh my god, he's terrified of her without having seen her wolf form. Can't imagine what he'd look like after seeing it." Jed pointed out with a grin still residing on his lips.
"Hey, I'm not that scary." Hope paused for a moment before she held up her hand to correct herself. "Okay, I see your point. But to be fair, he was testing my patience and I don't have that much patience, to begin with anyway. I am my father's daughter, after all." Hope said with a chuckle falling from her lips as she lifted her hand up to curl a strand of hair behind her ear.
"Uh, sorry? What did you call yourself again? What did I tell you about the self-deprecating stuff? You're not a failure. Your dad is just a dick." When Ben said that he was going to put his father through some of the pain that he'd experienced, Jed's lips stretched into a grin. "Now that I agree with you on." Jed pointed his index finger at Ben, nodding his approval.
"Do you think Castiel would give me intel on how to hurt his own kind? Probably not, right?" Jed shrugged his shoulders, knowing they'll have to figure out a way to cause that asshole as much pain as possible. "For now though, let's celebrate! What do you guys say 'bout getting some drinks? All of this got me fired up!" Jed said with a grin tugging at his lips, Hope and MG both groaning at the fact that he was still making puns about his death. "I'm up for it if you guys are." MG said with a half-smile resting on his lips, knowing that they should celebrate this win.

Ben could see how hard Jed was trying to be a better person, he was going out of his way to help people and he was trying to look out for everyone around him rather than just his pack. Jed had been through so much but he was trying and Ben couldn’t deny that he was proud of him for that. He had seen the way the other students looked at Jed, there were plenty who looked up to him and admired him and that was enough to make Ben see that Jed was doing a good job of it. He had never seen the side of Jed that he’d said he’d wanted to replace, ever since Jed and Ric found him Jed had been nothing but nice to him and he had always gone out of his way to help him. Ben wouldn’t have even known any different if Jed hadn’t told him but he had opened up about it and now Ben was doing his best to help Jed in whatever way he could. Now was one of the few times where Jed couldn’t try and protect him and he could tell that Jed hated it but he knew he just had to trust that his boyfriend would keep his distance like he’d promised. Ben had brought him back to life once but he still didn’t know how so he didn’t want to try his luck by having to do it again if he could help it. Ben knew that Jed didn’t want him to die and the truth was that Ben really didn’t want it either so he hoped that it wasn’t going to happen. Whether or not the bracelet would work could have gone either way but thankfully it did and Ben couldn’t deny that he was relieved. It was true that whenever he died he resurrected and any injuries he sustained healed but the truth was that every time it was agony and he knew that he wouldn’t be surprised if his father had intentionally made it that way. The angel had known what he was doing when he’d had him cursed, he had made sure that Ben would suffer and he had. For five thousand years he had suffered and he had felt sure that it would continue for another five thousand more but Hope and Josie had found a way to stop the monsters coming after him and he truly was grateful to them for that. Once he’d hugged Hope and had thanked her Ben found himself reaching for Jed and he felt a smile touch his lips as Jed hugged him back tightly. “I know you wouldn’t, I’ll never give up on you either,” he nodded. Jed was it for him and Ben wasn’t afraid to admit that. In all the years he’d lived he had never met anyone who could affect him even half as much as Jed did and he’d never had friends like those he’d found at the Salvatore School either. “So am I,” Ben said, offering Hope a smile as she said she was glad Jed and Ric found him and that their paths had crossed. “I’ll never forget what you’ve done for me. I know I asked too much of you earlier but thank you for doing it anyway,” he said gently. He knew that Hope would have felt guilty if she’d killed him but it hadn’t come to that and he really was glad. “If there’s anything I can do for any of you, let me know,” he added, knowing that he wanted to try and repay their kindness one day if he could. Josie would be lying if she said that she wasn’t startled when Hope snapped at her the way she had done but she had known that she hadn’t meant it and she would never hold it against her. Josie couldn’t help but relax as Hope’s arms wrapped around her, any tension she’d had left leaving her body in that instance, and she smiled into the kiss. As they pulled back Josie’s expression was gentle and her eyes were full of nothing but love for her girlfriend. “I think he’d look whiter than Hope’s fur,” Ben chuckled, just picturing Landon’s face if he ever saw Hope in her wolf form. “It’s not a bad thing, I think we’d just all rather your anger was directed at someone other than us,” he teased. Being on the receiving end of that anger had been quite scary and he knew that he didn’t want to go through that again. As Jed called him out on what he’d said, Ben couldn’t help but laugh. “Don’t worry, I’d never give him the satisfaction of thinking of myself as a failure I just think that’s what my father sees me as,” he shrugged. That was the impression he’d ended up getting from the guy that had told him about his father and the fact that the angel hadn’t once reached out to him was enough to reiterate that. “He’s definitely a dick,” he added with a nod, knowing that there wasn’t a doubt in his mind about that. “He’d deserve it if you did,” Josie nodded. Normally she wasn’t the kind of person who would want anyone to get hurt but what the angel had done to Ben was awful so even she thought that he deserved it. “I don’t think so,” Ben offered as Jed asked if Castiel would give him any information about how to hurt angels. Hope and MG both groaned at Jed’s latest pun and Josie shook her head at her brother but Ben couldn’t help but laugh. Even now he was still glad that Jed was able to make jokes about it so he was more than happy to go along with it. “I’m in, I think we could all use it,” he admitted and Josie nodded in agreement. “Our spot?” he asked Jed, knowing that it wouldn’t hurt to share it with the others for a change. – I freed myself from words never said –
Jed felt a soft smile appear on his lips as he listened to Ben before he nodded his head. "I know you wouldn't." He said without a hint of doubt in his words. Truth is, Jed was uncertain about many things in life. He was uncertain about his future, about college, and his future as a pack alpha along with many, many things but the only thing that he wasn't uncertain about was his relationship with Ben. There was never a moment of doubt where he wondered if he was with the right guy because he just knew that Ben was it for him. He always used to scoff at these kinds of revelations in movies, he would always say that they were too corny for him to watch but he was having the same epiphany too. Ben really was it for him.
"It's okay. I'm just relieved that this didn't end terribly if I'm being honest." Hope's voice was soft as she spoke, her eyes relaxing on Ben again as her lips stretched to form a soft smile. "Okay." MG and Hope said at the same time, though they both knew that they didn't want anything in return, really. They just wanted Ben to have a shot at a normal life. They wanted him to experience all the silly things that they all took for granted sometimes. They wanted him to be happy. Hope was certain that Jed wanted the same thing, too.
Hope never meant to snap at Josie like that, she never meant to scare her, either. But at the time, she could only think of one thing and she wanted to hurt anyone who got in her way, and at the time, that was Josie. Hope really was glad that Josie's magic had kept her away from her, though. Hope's eyes relaxed on Josie's and the sight of them made her relax visibly as a soft smile tugged at the corner of her lips before a chuckle fell from her lips at Ben's next comment. "That'd be pretty fun to see, actually." Hope pointed out a moment later.
"Oh, man. We've given her ideas. Okay, let's change the topic quickly. The poor guy has suffered enough already." MG quickly said. Though he did laugh at Ben's comment and nodded his head in agreement. "Yes please, keep those sharp teeth far, far away from us." MG said with a grin tugging at his lips not long after which showed that he was just messing around. Hope rolled her eyes fondly at the teasing. "Hmm, but where's the fun in that, though?" Hope questioned with a grin tugging on her lips not long after. "Kidding. Sorta."
Jed released a soft 'oh' at that before he released a breathless chuckle. He was glad to know that Ben didn't think of himself as a failure. He was surprised that they were all coming to an agreement that they want Ben's dad to suffer terribly for this. He wanted nothing more than to make Ben's dad pay for all the pain and suffering that he'd put his son through. "I'll talk to Jack, figure out some stuff on how to deal with your dad," Jed said with a quick nod of his head following, knowing that Jack was one of those people who loved to help without waiting for anything in return.
"Yup! Let's go." Jed said with a soft smile resting on his lips. Jed walked with Ben and Hope stayed by Josie's side, holding her hand as always, checking on her every now and then. "You guys are the worst you know that?" MG said as he walked behind them, all by himself. His words didn't have any heat, though. If anything, he was actually smiling because he really was happy for his friends. "S'okay, I'll pretend I'm dating Randall from Monsters, Inc. He's just invisible right now cause he's shy." MG's shoulders lifted and dropped in a quick shrug as he followed the others to Jed and Ben's secret spot. "Oh, so you're dating a gecko, dude? That's cute. Is it like, a were-gecko? A shapeshifter that turns into geckos?" Jed questioned from where he was walking next to Ben, holding his hand as he looked over his shoulder at his friend. "First of all, Randall is a salamander, dude. Don't be disrespectful to my boyfriend like that and second of all, he's just a salamander." MG said with a roll of his eyes following. "And I love him for it." MG pretended to hold hands with the air and even swung his arm back and forth, his grin still present on his lips which made Jed chuckle.
The sun was already setting by the time they reached the spot, Jed switched on the lights and ignited the bonfire to let the cozy vibe settle in with them. Jed bent at an awkward angle to get out the drinks from the cooler. In hindsight, he should have released Ben's hand to do that but he didn't want to. Simple as that. MG snorted as he watched Jed struggle to hold all five cans of beer in one hand as he continuously dropped and picked them up only to drop them again. "Okay, I have got a variety of drinks over here. Just like, come and take your pick?" Jed offered instead when he eventually gave up on trying to carry all five cans.
Hope made her way over to see which one she wanted and eventually took her pick. MG did the same, too. "What can I get for you?" Jed asked his boyfriend while Hope asked Josie a similar question: "Which one would you like to try?"
"I'd offer you a beer, Randall, but we both know beers aren't good for salamanders." MG sighed, pretending to be disappointed as he teased the lovers in his squad. Once again, his words were only meant to be teasing. He really did feel happy for them.
Once they all had their beers, they gathered around the bonfire, watching the fire. Jed caught himself looking over his shoulder every now and then to keep an eye out for monsters but then remembered that they were safe now. "Sorry, this is gonna take me a minute to get used to." Jed pointed out with a chuckle falling from his lips. "Anyway!" Jed held up the can of beer that he was holding. "Here's to new beginnings and to small but remarkable victories! One point super squad, zero points to the worst father of the century." Jed said with a grin resting on his lips. Hope and MG raised their own beers too, their smiles present on their lips. "Here's to more wins to come."

Ben had spent such a long time on his own and he had thought that he just wasn’t meant to be happy or have a normal life. Those things had always eluded him but now things were different. Mystic Falls had become his home and that was all thanks to Jed and the friends he’d made during his time there. For the first time Ben had people around who cared about him and people he cared about in return. He had a life and he had a boyfriend that he loved and he knew that he wouldn’t give any of that up for anything in the world. A smile touched Ben’s lips as Jed confirmed that he knew he wouldn’t give up on him, Jed had done so much for him and he had taken a chance on him when no one else ever had and now he had a future with Jed to look forward to, even more so now that their friends had found a way to stop the monsters from finding him. “So am I. It would have been better to have been killed by someone I care about rather than a stranger but I’m glad it didn’t come to that,” he admitted. There was something that he had always hated about being killed by someone who didn’t even know him, he knew that it probably sounded crazy but the thought of going through that for a second time that day just hadn’t sat well with him. That was why he had asked Hope to be the one to test the bracelet and he was glad that she had agreed. Nodding as Hope, MG and Josie all confirmed that they would let him know if there was anything that he could do for them, Ben was pretty sure that they wouldn’t tell him even if there was but he knew that he would help them in any way that he could anyway, it really was the least he could do. Josie knew that Hope hadn’t meant to snap at her, it was something that had happened in the spur of the moment and Josie really didn’t blame her for it. “You did so well,” Josie said gently, bringing her hand up and letting it rest against Hope’s cheek. Hope could have easily lost control and killed Ben and it wouldn’t have been her fault but she had tried to fight it and in the end she had managed to resist and Josie really was glad about that. “Don’t be mean, Landon’s a nice guy,” Josie said, hitting her girlfriend’s arm playfully. “He deserves a break,” she added with a grin. As MG and Hope spoke again, Josie couldn’t help but laugh. “Oh please, we all know you don’t want to hurt anyone,” she grinned as she looked over at Hope. “You’re just a softy really,” she added although she knew that that was just one of the things that she loved about Hope. Ben knew that Jed had worried that he saw himself as a failure but the truth was that he didn’t and Ben knew that he would never give his father the satisfaction. He had never met the guy and yet Ben hated him more than he had thought that it was possible to hate anyone and he hoped that their paths never crossed. “Sounds good, hopefully he’ll know something we can use,” Ben nodded. He knew that he didn’t really want to end up provoking his father but at the same time he didn’t want him to get away with what he had done either so it really was a difficult situation to be in. Nodding as Jed agreed that they should go to their spot, Ben kept Jed’s hand in his as they walked. It was only a small point of contact but Ben always felt strange when they were together now and Jed’s hand wasn’t clasped in his own. Jed had come to mean so much more to him than Ben had ever thought possible and he knew that he wanted to make the most of every moment they had together. “You don’t mean that,” Ben chuckled as MG said they were the worst and Josie laughed along with him. It was easy to forget that MG was on his own, Ben always automatically reached for Jed’s hand and Jed did the same. It was like that for Hope and Josie as well, they were holding hands as they walked too and that was enough to bring a smile to Ben’s face. The only one out of them who was single was MG and none of them ever intentionally rubbed his nose in that fact but it was clear that MG was aware of it now. “Out of all of the characters you could have gone for you decided to choose an invisible boyfriend?” Josie asked, an amused smile touching her lips as she looked over at her friend. “Aren’t you full of surprises?” she asked, rolling her eyes playfully as MG pretended to hold hands with his invisible boyfriend and started swinging his arm as he walked. It was getting late as they reached the Old Mill but it wasn’t long before the bonfire and lights were lit and they were ready to start celebrating. Ben watched in amusement as Jed started pulling cans from the cooler but kept on dropping them. “You do know this would be easier if you let go of my hand, right?” he asked, an amused smile touching his lips as he looked over at Jed. Ben knew that he had said something similar before and when he had done Jed had made it clear that he had no intention of letting go of his hand so he was pretty sure that it would be the same now but he still couldn’t resist teasing Jed nonetheless. Taking a couple of the cans from Jed, Ben set them down as Jed called the others over. “Ladies first,” Ben said as Jed asked what Ben wanted at the same time that Hope asked Josie which one she would like to try. Ben waited for Josie to take whichever can she wanted before taking the one that was left. “You’re such a dork,” Josie laughed as MG apologised to Randall. Opening his beer, Ben found himself glancing around them searching for any sign of a monster that might have found them as well. He knew that it was a reflex, he had been cursed for such a long time and he didn’t know what it was like to live any other way now. “It’s going to be the same for me as well. I don’t remember what it’s like not to be cursed,” Ben admitted. He had wanted to have a future with Jed so much and now they had that chance so it was a huge relief but at the same time he knew that it was going to take some getting used to. “To more wins to come and to you guys and the rest of the squad for being the best friends anyone could wish for,” Ben said, a smile touching his lips as he took a sip of his drink. Out of the corner of his eye he saw Josie smile and take a sip of her beer as well but then there was what sounded like wings and a strange voice sounded. “Petulant children. You’re meddling in things you’ll never understand,” the voice said and Ben turned to find a man he didn’t recognise standing before him. “Who are you?” he demanded as he took a step forward to put himself in front of the others instinctively so they wouldn’t get hurt. “You’d think a son would recognise his own father,” the man said and Ben’s blood ran cold. “You,” he breathed, hatred evident on his face. “What do you want? You’ve had five thousand years, why show yourself now?” he asked, doing his best to keep his voice steady. “I’m here to give you all a warning. You may have stopped the monsters for now but if you proceed with trying to break the curse you’ll all face the consequences.”JED SALTZMAN

– I freed myself from words never said –
Hope's lips stretched to form a soft smile, nodding her head in an understanding manner. She understood his point and she was definitely glad that she had stopped before she could sink her teeth into the flesh of Ben's neck. It was definitely very tempting and thinking about her desire to hurt Ben like that made her shudder because it was such raw and violent emotion that she wished she could never experience again.
Jed watched Josie and Hope with a soft smile forming on his lips, feeling happy for them. Hope couldn't help the way her gaze softened when Josie told her that she had done so well. The praise made her heart flutter in a way she couldn't explain all that well. "Thank you," Hope said in a soft tone of her voice, her expression still soft. When Josie told her to not be mean, she rolled her eyes fondly before she felt a small smile form on her lips. "Yeah... I guess he's not too bad." Hope said a moment later which made MG grin. "I knew you had a soft spot for him under all that glaring and chastising." MG pointed his index finger at Hope which made her narrow her eyes at him and quirk a slow eyebrow which immediately made him stop teasing her and instead cleared his throat. Though Josie pretty much exposed her by pointing out the fact she didn't want to hurt anyone. Hope didn't even try to argue or pretend that wasn't the truth. "Wow, can't believe I'm being exposed by my own girlfriend." Hope joked with a chuckle falling from her lips not long after.
"Yeah, I really hope so 'cause I really wanna give your father hell." Jed wanted to find a way to make the man pay for being so negligent and for being literally the worst father figure out there.
MG shook his head with a fond roll of his eyes following. He definitely didn't mean any of it. He loved them all too much, really. When Josie pointed out the fact he had picked Randall out of all characters, his brows quirked up in surprise because he actually didn't think before saying that. "Oh. Well..." He made a gesture at them. "When you put it that way..." MG trailed off with a chuckle falling from his lips not long after. "I could have picked Susan from Fantastic Four but I really went with Randall, huh?" He rolled his eyes fondly when Josie pointed out the fact that he was full of surprises.
Jed gave Ben a mock-offended look at Ben's suggestion to let go of his hand. "Let go of your hand? Never. This hand isn't going anywhere, thank you very much. It's mine now. You can have it back only when it's absolutely necessary." Jed pointed out with a smile tugging at the corner of his lips already. Jed watched Hope and Josie pick their drinks, his smile evident on his lips.
"No, I'm painfully single, Jo. That's what I am." MG responded with a chuckle falling from his lips not long after. Honestly, MG was in no hurry to find his own little special someone. He knew things like these took time. He'd rather wait and find the perfect one than rush and break his heart.
Jed's expression turned sympathetic as he nodded his head slowly. "We'll get used to it together, then. There's so much we can do now." Jed said with a smile tugging at the corner of his lips. He was excited because Ben's bracelet opened a whole lot of new possibilities for them. They can do so many things they couldn't do before because of Ben's curse.
Ben's toast was enough to put a smile on Jed, MG, and Hope's lips. They raised their own cans of beer in a mock toast gesture before they started drinking. Jed looked at them with a soft smile forming on his lips, feeling incredibly happy to have all of them in his life, especially Ben. He raised the beer to his lips to take a sip but stopped when he heard a voice. His eyes relaxed on the stranger, a frown already tugging at his features. "Can we help you?" MG asked with a confused tilt of his head because the man was strange, to say the least.
Jed didn't let Ben stand alone as he approached too, his apprehension clear on his expression because something didn't sit well with him. There was just something about the way this man talked... As if he knew what they had done... It clicked for Jed before the man made it clear that he was Ben's father.
"You're Ben's father..." Hope took a small step forward too, her frown already matching Jed's. "He's not his father. They just share the same DNA and that's it. He was never Ben's father." Jed spoke up, his fist clenched tight.
The way that man effortlessly threatened them. The pride he seemed to carry in the tone of his voice. The way he looked down on them, was really starting to piss Jed off. "Is this the part where we cower in fear and beg for your mercy? Just let me know so I can start acting the part." Jed was nowhere near as powerful as angels and he really should watch his tone before it comes to bite him in the ass but he couldn't stay quiet. Maybe the fact that he was an Alpha played a huge part in this, too. His urge to protect Ben was too strong that he forgot about everything else that might come as a result of mouthing off an angel. "We are going to find a way to break Ben's curse. Your threat doesn't exactly scare us." Hope spoke up from where she was standing as she took a step too, same with MG. So rather than them being behind Ben's back, letting the other protect them and shield them with his own body, they stood by his side. They seemed to pause for a moment though when they saw Ben's father step forward too, not backing down from a challenge as he looked down on them with disgust quite visible on his face.
It made Jed's fist clench tighter.
"Threat? No, it was not a threat. It was a promise. I will rain wrath upon you until you are begging for mercy and even then, I will not grant it to you. I will ensure that you watch every single one of them as they suffer painfully. It would certainly be a shame for them to die fighting for such a disappointment. So unworthy of all the effort." Disappointment. The way he said it and the way he looked at Ben as he said that made Jed's blood boil. There was a growl that left Jed's lips as his eyes flashed red and almost immediately, he threw a punch directly at the man's face and when it made contact with the man's face, it was like punching a concrete wall with full force. The man didn't even seem to blink or turn his head from the force of the punch. "Control your dog or I will break more than his hand." Those words were said to Ben. Jed's hand and wrist throbbed painfully and from the cracking noise that was heard the second he punched the angel, it was definitely broken. It still didn't stop him from glaring at the angel in front of him. "Don't talk about him like that. Don't even look in his way, you hear me? Or you'll regret it and that's a promise."
"Second warning. There will not be a third." He easily ignored Jed's words and turned his attention back to his own son.

Normally Ben was fortunate enough to only die once during the course of a day but that day he had been determined to try the bracelet again if the girls had been able to find a way to make it work, he had just hated the thought of being killed by another stranger. Ben understood his curse a little better now that Hope had experienced it and had explained what it had been like for her and now he could see that none of the monsters that had attacked him had done so of their own accord, they had been compelled to do it because of his curse and that made him feel better to an extent but it still didn’t change the amount of times that he’d died. Now it felt surreal to think that he wasn’t going to have to keep looking over his shoulder waiting for the next attack to come and Ben knew that it was definitely going to take some getting used to. “You don’t need to thank me, you’re incredible,” Josie said gently. She wouldn’t have blamed Hope if she had said that she couldn’t do what Ben had asked of her, just the thought of killing a friend was awful but Hope had agreed to help test the bracelet and thankfully this time it had worked the way it was supposed to. Josie couldn’t help but laugh as she watched the exchange between Hope and MG, it seemed that MG was being rather brave right now and it was definitely amusing to see. As Hope joked that she couldn’t believe that she was being exposed by her own girlfriend, a smile touched Josie’s lips as she shrugged playfully. “You know I’ll always keep you grounded,” she grinned. She knew that Hope sometimes saw herself a certain way because she was a Mikaelson or thought that others saw her that way and whenever that happened Josie always tried to remind her of who she really was and, naturally, there were times like these when she just couldn’t resist teasing her girlfriend as well. “I know you do,” Ben said, a gentle smile forming on his face as Jed said that he wanted to make his father pay. That was much obvious and Ben really couldn’t blame him. He and Jed were protective of each other and had been from the day they met. If anything happened to Jed then Ben knew that he would want to make the person responsible pay, aside from the poor girl who had fallen victim to his curse, and nothing would stop him from standing up for Jed. Ben had noticed the fact that MG had gone for an invisible boyfriend as well but the truth was that he hadn’t thought anything of it. Josie, on the other hand, had picked up on it and she couldn’t help but smile as he said that he really went for Randall when he could have gone for Susan Storm. “Yeah, you did,” she grinned, her tone playful as she spoke. “Perhaps we’re rubbing off on you,” she added with a laugh. MG really did spend a lot of time with them and they always tried not to make things awkward but right now they were due a celebration and Josie kept Hope’s hand clasped in her own as they walked. Once they’d reached the Old Mill, Ben couldn’t help but laugh at Jed’s reaction when he said that Jed could have always let go of his hand and made it easier for himself. “How did I know that would be your reaction?” he chuckled. “Oh well, you can’t say I didn’t offer,” he added with a grin although if he was honest he was glad that Jed hadn’t wanted to let go of his hand. There was rarely a time when they were together and they weren’t holding hands or touching in some way, it was only something simple but Ben loved it and he knew that he wouldn’t have it any other way. “Are we going to have to set you up with someone?” Josie asked as she looked over at MG. “There are plenty of single people around school, just let us know your type,” she added with a smile. She wasn’t really sure what MG looked for in a person but he deserved to be happy and she knew that if there was anything that she could do to make that happen then she would. “There is,” Ben nodded as Jed said that there was so much they could do now. “We can finally take that trip we talked about.” It was something that they had discussed before but truth be told Ben hadn’t thought that it would ever happen. He had felt certain that his curse would always hold them back from being able to live the kind of life they wanted to live but thankfully they had incredible friends who had refused to give up and Ben knew that he would always be grateful to them for that. Josie couldn’t help but smile at Ben’s toast and she lifted her can to her lips and took a sip. Sipping his own drink, Ben found himself looking around at the others and not for the first time he could himself feeling incredibly lucky to have them all. Jed had been the first person to take a chance on him but the others had followed suit pretty quickly even though they had known about his curse. None of them had been worried about it, they had simply taken it in their stride and welcomed him into the group and that was something that Ben had never had before. He knew that he wasn’t just Jed’s boyfriend to them, they were his friends and he knew that he was fortunate to have found them all. As his gaze came to rest on Jed, Ben felt a smile touch his lips. Jed had changed everything for him without even meaning to and now he knew that he didn’t even want to think about a day when Jed wouldn’t be in his life anymore. Unfortunately their celebration was short lived because they were soon joined by an unfamiliar face although it didn’t take any of them long to put the pieces together. Jed didn’t hesitate in moving so he was standing next to him even after Ben had stepped forward to put himself in front of the others. He hadn’t known who the guy was at first but the fact that he was a threat was radiating from him and Ben had known that he didn’t want any of the others to get hurt. Soon Hope was taking a small step forward as well, though, but thankfully she still stayed back a little. Ben knew that they were all more than capable of looking out for themselves and when they were together they were an incredible team but he knew that he didn’t want any of them getting hurt because of him so he would do anything to stop that. “That’s right. Ashur’s father was the closest thing I ever had to one while I was growing up. The one time I reached out to you to ask you for help you turned your back on me. A real father wouldn’t do that,” Ben said, giving Jed’s hand a gentle squeeze as he could already tell how tense his boyfriend was. Ben knew how much Jed had wanted to punch his father but now the angel was here Ben knew that the last thing he wanted was for Jed to end up getting hurt so he hoped that he wouldn’t. Ben felt his stomach drop as Jed mouthed off to his father but the truth was that Ben couldn’t blame him. He knew that Jed hated the guy just as much as he did but right now Ben knew that he didn’t want Jed to put himself in danger again. It was Hope who spoke up and said that they were going to find a way to break his curse and Ben offered her a grateful smile as she stepped up to join them with MG and Josie following. He had intended on protecting all of them if he could but they had decided to stand with him instead and he knew from the argument he’d had with Jed in the past that he needed to learn to let the people who cared about him do that. “That’s right, you don’t scare us. In case you haven’t noticed, you’re outnumbered here,” Ben said as he glanced at his friends. He didn’t know much about angels but he had learned a long time ago that there was strength in numbers and they definitely had that on their side. Watching as his father took a step towards them, Ben felt his heart clench at the angel’s words. He knew that he shouldn’t care what the angel thought of him but even so hearing him say those words hurt more than Ben had thought it would. Hearing Jed growl, Ben was about to try and stop him from doing something stupid but Jed was one step ahead of him and was already throwing a punch at his father. The angel didn’t seem anything other than irritated by it but the sound of the bones in Jed’s hand breaking was enough to make Ben feel sick to his stomach. “Are you alright?” he asked his boyfriend, his tone laced with concern as he turned to look at Jed. Hearing his father’s voice once more, this time it was Ben’s turn to feel angry at the threat. “You won’t lay a hand on any of them. Your fight is with me, not them,” Ben said fiercely, knowing that the others didn’t deserve to be dragged into whatever was to come next. He knew that he couldn’t stop them from getting involved and he knew better than to try but he still wanted to protect them if he could, that was never going to change. Jed’s words were enough to have a gentle smile touch Ben’s lips but his father soon issued another warning and that gentleness was quickly replaced by anger. “Something tells me you didn’t come here just to threaten us so what do you want?” Ben demanded, looking over at his father levelly. “Believe it or not, I was curious about my bastard son,” the angel said and Ben’s hand clenched into a fist at his side as he tried to resist the urge to do as Jed had done moments before and hit his father. “As it turns out you’re even more of a disappointment than I thought. You were an experiment, I wanted to see what would happen if I mixed my blood with that of one of my father’s favourite creations but you really weren’t worth the effort. I see you’ve fallen for the dog so clearly you can’t even get that right and you’ve chosen to surround yourself by the abominations you’re responsible for,” the angel spat, disgust clear on his face as he looked over at all of them. “You’re right, I do love Jed and I’m not going to let you or anyone else make me feel ashamed of that,” he said, knowing that he had given up on feeling that way about his sexuality a long time ago. “They’re not abominations, you are,” Ben said angrily as he looked over at his father. “You turned your back on me when I needed you and that’s something that none of the people here would ever do. You can say what you want but you’re nothing to me, my family is right here and we’re going to find a way to break the curse whether you like it or not.”JED SALTZMAN

– I freed myself from words never said –
Hope's lips stretched to form a soft smile when Josie called her incredible. It was enough to make a hint of pink dust across her cheeks as she dipped her head down, her smile still visible and sincere as always. "Not as incredible as you are." Hope offered back, meaning every word of it because her girlfriend really was an incredible person and Hope felt incredibly glad that she had someone like her in her life. "Knew I could always count on you," Hope said with a grin forming on her lips not long after saying that.
There was no denying the fact that Jed held a grudge when it came to Ben's dad, no denying that he was going to try his damn hardest to find a way to make the man suffer for putting Ben through so much pain and misery. But he knew that they need to find a way to break Ben's curse first before they could have any shot at making the man suffer.
MG couldn't help the chuckle that left his lips at Josie's words before he nodded his head a few times. "Yeah, you guys definitely are," MG said after his laughter eased, leaving behind a grin on his lips.
Jed's lips stretched into a grin at Ben's words before his shoulders lifted and dropped in a quick shrug. "You suggested something similar while we were at my house, remember? I'm pretty sure I said the same thing." Jed said with a chuckle falling from his lips. "I would literally rather eat kale than let go of your hand. For context, I hate kale." Jed pointed out a moment later, knowing he'd much rather do anything else than letting go of Ben's hand. He really liked holding Ben's hand.
MG's expression turned thoughtful for a moment at Josie's suggestion before he shook his head with a gentle smile forming on his lips not long after. "No, it's okay. I'm not in a rush, really." MG's voice was soft as he spoke, his shoulders lifting and dropping in a quick shrug. "Good things come to those who wait, right?" MG asked with a half-smile resting on his lips.
"Yeah." Jed said with a soft smile resting on his lips when Ben pointed out that they can finally go on that trip they had talked about some time ago. "We can do that," Jed's voice was still soft as he spoke. Though Ben's father decided to interrupt their celebration and his presence instantly seemed to sour the mood. The light-hearted atmosphere was long gone by now and instead replaced with apprehension and anger.
Jed listened to Ben as he spoke back to his father, reminding him that he may carry his blood but the man was not his father. He never even acted the part. Instead, it was Ashur's father who treated him like a son better than his own father. It only made Jed glare harder at the angel standing not too far away from where they were. "Yeah, honestly, we've heard this villain monologue so many times by now and we've managed to beat every single one of them who acted all high and mighty. So, we're not scared of you." Hope spoke up from where she was standing, looking at the angel with narrowed eyes. She could tell that her words irked the angel and from the way he was looking at her, he wanted her to swallow her own words so she would never open her mouth again and so she only quirked an eyebrow as a silent challenge to do that. He didn't.
Jed had heard enough awful crap before he finally lost that last bit of control that he seemed to have and punched the man straight in the jaw but the punch only made the guy look irritated and Jed was the one left feeling hurt. Ben's question had his attention drifting to his boyfriend, his expression softening a little. "I'm okay." He assured him in a quiet voice, knowing that it won't take long for him to heal, anyway.
Disappointment. Abomination. His words were so full of hatred, so judgmental and harsh. It made Jed feel like his blood was boiling as he listened to all the crap that the man was spewing without a hint of regret in the tone of his voice. His attention drifted to Ben, his lips stretching to form a small smile as his expression softened, the sound of his voice preventing him from losing control all over again.
"You know what? Screw you. Get off your high horse and stop looking down on us just because you're an angel. I can't believe I used to pray to your kind. No wonder they never, even for once, answered me." Jed's voice matched the man's. Full of hatred and spite. He used to pray, day and night, for his father to stop being so awful, for him and Trey to get out of there and build their own life elsewhere without the shadow of their Alpha looming over them, reminding them every hour of every day that they are nothing but a dead weight. "Ben's right. We will keep fighting for a way to break his curse, no matter what you say to us." MG spoke up from where he was standing next to Josie, his frown still visible on his features.
"Foolish children. You stand no chance against me. I will crush you, like the worthless bugs that you are. Perhaps it would be best for the world if I did." Ben's father said with the same amount of hatred still visible in the tone of his voice. "The less of your kind that we have, the better." There was a flash of thunder that showed the shadows of the angel's wings behind him. Intimidating and big. "You think you are being noble, siding with my own worthless creation? The world would celebrate your demise. They would have one less vampire to fear," His eyes settled on MG as he said that. "One less faulty witch." Then his eyes moved to Josie. "One less cosmic mistake." His eyes relaxed on Hope. "One less short-tempered dog." His eyes were on Jed. "And one less disappointment." His eyes relaxed on Ben lastly.
"You may think of me as the monster here, but I think the true monsters are yourselves. Each one of you is more than capable of hurting an innocent bystander. Of taking a life because that is simply what you are. Abominations. Fully, truly incapable of controlling your monstrous instincts and you have none other than my own failure of a son to thank for helping create your kind." The man had his hands behind his back as he spoke, standing tall and mighty, looking down on them as though they were bugs he could easily squish beneath his heel.
"You're wrong," MG spoke up which made the man's blue eyes move to meet his own. "I am not, vampire. You have felt it, have you not? The urge to feed on an innocent soul. The urge to suck every droplet dry from their bodies? Do not try to deny for I can see the truth with my own eyes with such ease. You are not worthy of living because all you do is bring forth nothing but pain." MG clenched his jaw hard, unable to even deny it.
"You." His eyes relaxed on Josie next as he took a step forward which made Hope step forward to protect her girlfriend. He barely even acknowledged Hope. "Not even a full witch, are you? A faulty creation, truly. A weakling. Do you think you are worthy of being alive? A creature like you will suck the life out of everyone around them the same way they use their abilities to siphon the magic out of them. The world would thank me for killing your... kind." The way he looked her up and down and then turned his attention to Hope showed he didn't just mean her being a siphoner. He meant also her relationship with Hope. "Shut the hell up. Don't even talk to her like that, you asshole." Jed snapped at the angel, but once again, he was barely even acknowledged.
"As for you..." Now it was Hope's turn to be on the receiving end of the man's cruel words but she stepped forward. "Brave, are we? You must feel as though you are invincible, being the only one of your kind. But I wonder why you would feel that kind of bravery when all you should feel is shame and embarrassment. Your very existence breaks the law of nature. Your very existence is a mistake, child. A cosmic mistake that should be fixed. You will bring nothing but havoc and pain and destruction, do you hear me, child? It is written in your very future that every single person around you will suffer a great deal just for knowing you. If my worthless son hadn't stolen magic, your very existence would not have happened and for that, I truly despise him more." The angel tossed a spiteful glare in the direction of his own son before he turned his attention to Jed.
"Short-tempered little dog. Incapable of thinking with anything other than his fist. We heard your prayers, we simply did not answer because you were not worthy of being saved. Why would we rescue the very beings that we wished to erase from existence? Being with him will only kill you faster. He already got you killed once, did he not? You may think that the curse you are trying to break is the only curse he has, but you are mistaken. His true curse is that everything he touches, everyone he loves, withers and dies. His very existence sucks the soul of everyone around him." Jed could feel his heart ache, just thinking about the fact that the angels had ignored his prayers, and had chosen to let him suffer because they simply hated his kind. The way he spoke so harshly about Ben made Jed's eyes flash bright red again as he clenched his jaw tightly. He parted his lips to say something but the angel beat him to it. "Their deaths will be on you, my worthless boy. I hope you do know that—" Before he could finish what he was trying to say, he found himself flying backward.
"I have had enough of your villain monologue. It's about time you shut the hell up." Hope spoke up as she approached the angel who suddenly disappeared from where he was on the ground, only to appear behind Hope, the sound of his wings being the only warning she'd receive as he tossed her away almost effortlessly, sending her flying toward a tree where her back made contact with it and soon, she was on the ground. But she didn't stay down for long. "You think you can kill me? Please, do try. It will make the task of killing you a little more ... enjoyable." The angel's eyes flashed bright blue as he held his arms open, taunting them to attack.

“I’ve learned a lot from you. I have to try and live up to your standards,” Josie said, a smile touching her lips as she looked over at her girlfriend. Josie knew that she was different, she was a siphoner which meant that she wasn’t born with magic of her own and she had to take it from other people. Even so she still did her best to do good with it and look out for those around her. She had met witches along the way who had thought that she was a freak because she was different but no one in the squad saw her that way and she truly was grateful to them for that. “You always will be able to. I’m not going anywhere,” Josie assured her, bringing her hand up and letting it rest against Hope’s cheek before pressing a gentle kiss against her lips. “I’m not so sure that’s a bad thing,” Josie said, her smile returning as she looked over at MG. All any of them wanted was for him to be happy and it didn’t matter if he found that happiness with a girl or with another guy, they would be happy for him regardless. “I remember,” Ben laughed as Jed said that he’d said the same thing when Ben had asked that question before. “I still had to check that your answer hadn’t changed,” he added with a grin. He had known that it wouldn’t have done because the truth was that they were just going from strength to strength but he had still wanted to make sure and if it was honest he was glad that Jed didn’t want to let go of his hand. “I’ll remember that,” he chuckled as Jed said that he would rather eat something he hated than let go of his hand. “For what it’s worth I don’t want to let go of yours either. It feels weird not to be holding your hand now,” he admitted. Ben had been on his own for thousands of years whereas he and Jed had only been together for a few months but there were times when he honestly couldn’t remember what his life was like without Jed in it now and he knew that he never wanted to go back to that. “Definitely,” Josie nodded as MG said that good things come to those who wait. It had definitely been that way for her and Hope and she knew that it had been the same for Jed and Ben as well. “If you ever change your mind just let me know,” she added gently. Josie had plenty of friends who were single so she knew that it would be easy enough to set something up for MG with one of them if that was what he wanted but it had to be his call. “I can’t wait,” Ben admitted. There was so much more that they could do now that they no longer had to worry about monster attacks as well, now they could spend as many nights as they wanted together without having to worry and Ben knew that he could finally be around Jed’s family more without thinking that he was going to put them in danger as well. The bracelet might not look like it was anything special but it was to Ben, it was life changing as far as he was concerned and he was so grateful to his friends for not giving up. It was a little strange celebrating without the rest of the squad but Ben had known that they would fill the rest of them in later. For now it was a way of saying thank you to Jed, Hope, Josie and MG for everything that they had done that day but the celebration was soon brought to an abrupt end by the appearance of his father. Ben couldn’t deny that he was proud of Hope for standing up to his father the way she was right now, none of them really knew much about angels at all so they didn’t know what he was capable of but that didn’t seem to stop any of them from wanting to stand up for him anyway and he truly was grateful to them for that. Ben knew that Jed had been wanting to punch his father ever since Ben had told him his story but Ben hadn’t thought that Jed would end up breaking his hand in the process and he couldn’t deny that he was worried. “Good,” he breathed as Jed confirmed that he was okay. “We need to be careful with him,” he added gently, knowing that he didn’t want anyone else to get hurt either. Ben knew that he shouldn’t let his father’s words get to him but he couldn’t deny that hearing those words still hurt. He refused to let the angel see that, though, so his expression hardened until Jed revealed that he had prayed to the angels before and they had never once answered him. “Jed,” he said gently, giving Jed’s uninjured hand a light squeeze. Ben’s heart ached knowing that they had abandoned his boyfriend too and in that moment he knew that he was going to make sure that Jed never went through something like that again. As MG spoke up Ben felt a small smile touch his lips. Even now they were standing by him and Ben really was grateful to them for it. He had seen others around the world with friends like these but he’d never had that himself and he knew how lucky he truly was. “You’re wrong. You can think what you like but even though they’re young these four are some of the most incredible people I’ve ever met,” Ben said, no hint of doubt in his words as he spoke. “They’re not worthless, they protect people and they help them. The world is a much better place for having them in it.” He had seen people who had done awful things over the course of his long life and he had also seen people who had done plenty of good but everyone in the squad took that to a whole new level. They constantly put themselves in danger to protect those around them and they stood by each other no matter what. That was something worth celebrating, not being looked down upon for. Ben hated the way his father started slinging insults at all of them and it really was enough to make his blood boil. As his father spoke again, Ben fixed his gaze levelly on the angel. “I’m proud of the part I played in them all being who they are. MG might have to fight the urge to feed on people every day but he does it without question because he knows it’s the right thing to do. That doesn’t make him a monster, it makes him strong,” Ben said fiercely. “It makes him stronger than you’ll ever be.”As his father turned his attention to Josie and started talking down to her, Ben felt his blood run cold. “Leave her alone,” he said, his voice low but the threat clearly there in his tone. Ben could see the doubt written all over Josie’s face which was exactly what his father wanted. He was saying what he was to make them doubt themselves probably so that they would fall apart and play right into his hands and Ben knew that he couldn’t let that happen to them. “The world is so black and white to you but you don’t see that by doing what you’re doing right now and by turning your back on people when they need you, you’re the true monster here. Josie might not have magic of her own but I’ve seen her do so much to help those around her during the time I’ve known her and that’s more than you’ll ever do,” he said, his eyes fixed on his father as he spoke. “You can think what you like about who any of us love but at least we’re capable of love, unlike you.”Ben had always hated his father, there had never been a doubt in his mind about that ever since the day the angel decided to turn his back on him and let Ashur die, but hearing the way that he was talking to them all now was enough to make Ben hate him that much more. The angel’s view on all of them was disgusting and Ben hated that the others even had to hear it. Ben could only listen in stunned silence as his father spoke to Hope and then Jed before turning his attention to him. “Hope!” Josie cried out in concern as her girlfriend was sent flying into a tree. Thankfully Hope didn’t stay down for long and that was enough to have relief flooding through Josie and Ben snapped out of it. “We will find a way to stop you one way or the other,” he said fiercely, knowing that now they had to. “Your view of the world is twisted and you’re wrong about all of them. Hope’s existence isn’t a mistake, she has done so much more good in her life so far than you’ll ever know and as for Jed, if anyone deserved saving it was him but you failed him just like you failed me and guess what? He’s still here. He saved himself rather than relying on a bastard like you,” he said angrily, his gaze fixed firmly on his father. “You can say what you like about me but I really don’t care. You’re nothing to me and you know nothing about me. You made a mistake by coming here and this is your one warning. If you value your life then I suggest you leave now because there isn’t anything that we can’t do when we work together.”JED SALTZMAN

– I freed myself from words never said –
Hope's eyes softened at her girlfriend's words, finding them incredibly sweet and soothing. They filled her heart with so much warmth and Hope really did appreciate her. Hope had never been so in love the same way that she was in love with Josie. MG nodded his head in agreement with Josie. It was definitely not a bad thing. Jed chuckled at Ben's words before he shook his head. "It's never gonna change." He said with a half-smile resting on his lips. "I'm always gonna want to hold your hand. Anything else can be done with just one hand. I think." Holding five cans of beer was definitely a task that couldn't be done with just one hand. "Oh?" Jed's lips stretched into a grin at Ben's next words, looking pretty pleased to hear Ben say that.
"I will," MG assured her with a soft smile resting on his lips as he lifted his beer up to his lips to take another quick sip. Jed had spent so long imagining all things they could do if Ben didn't have a curse looming over his head like a gloomy cloud and now, they definitely had the chance to do whatever they wanted. He was definitely excited about their trip. "Do you wanna go after graduation?" Jed asked with a tilt of his head following. "That way, we have all the time we need to do whatever we want."
"Yeah, he's pretty damn strong," Jed said with a wince following, his wrist throbbing painfully. "It was like punching a wall of bricks. But I really couldn't help it. I did tell you about how much I wanted to punch him, didn't I?" Jed said with a brief, humorless chuckle escaping his lips not long after.
"It's fine," Jed assured his boyfriend in a soft voice, his gaze losing its hatred as his eyes relaxed on Ben once again. "Back then, I just wanted to use all the help I could get," Jed added a moment later before he shook his head.
Jed could feel another growl bubbling up his throat as he listened to the way the man seemed to spew insults at them over and over again, making them feel small and insignificant. MG's eyes moved to settle on Ben when he stood up for him against his father, his lips stretching to form a small smile. "I may be a monster in your eyes, but I never asked to be this way and I'm trying not to act on my instincts, no matter what they are telling me. I'm trying to show people like you that just because we are supernatural doesn't mean that we are monsters." MG said with a shake of his head following as he stood his ground, not letting the man tear down his walls but MG couldn't deny the fact that his words hit a spot within MG he didn't know even existed.
"My sister is a wonderful person and she may not be a full witch, but she's been nothing but amazing her entire life. She cares so much and so deeply about strangers, friends, and family." Jed spoke up, his glare relaxing on Ben's father who seemed to stare down on all of them, one brow quirking up slowly as they all seemed to defy his words but he could see the doubt in their eyes as he exposed their weaknesses. Hypocrites.
Hope groaned as her back ached painfully, her eyes relaxing on her girlfriend when she called out for her. "I'm okay," Hope assured her in a soft voice as her eyes relaxed on Ben's father once again. "Ben's right. We will stop you." Hope promised as she made her way back to her friends, Jed's worried eyes relaxing on Hope again as he asked her if she was okay, she nodded at him with a small smile tugging on her lips.
"Your persistence is almost admirable, if it was not headache-inducing, child." Ben's father spoke up, that same proud tone of his that managed to get on their nerves effortlessly. "I suppose it is only natural that you defend them, seeing as though you are one of them." Ben's father said, his tone irritatingly calm. "A warning? What is it you will do to me if I do not heed your warning?" Ben's father stepped closer to Ben, peering down at him with a challenging look. "Glare at me until I meet my demise? Do you happen to know how to use your abilities, child? I would imagine not. You are much more of a failure than I thought you were if that is truly the case." There was a mocking scoff that escaped the angel.
"You and your friends are incapable of doing anything to me. You have no idea what you are up against." The angel said with so much certainty. "My vision of the world is not twisted, or black and white as you mentioned. You are mistaken about that, as you are mistaken about many other things. This world was good before you ruined it. I simply seek to bring it back to the way it used to be. Before you tarnished it with the exposure of magic. Do you see what humans are truly capable of doing when they get their hands on such powerful tools? They create monsters because they are nothing but greedy, vile, and evil creatures. I plan on getting rid of every single abomination from this Earth, starting with you and your friends." The angel's tone was spiteful as he glared at Ben with so much hatred visible in his blue eyes.
"I think you better be wise when you threaten me, child for I will squish you like the worthless bug that you are." The angel's eyes started glowing with a bright blue hue that made Jed tense up. "Perhaps I ought to teach you all a lesson so you know when to heed the warnings of your superiors next time." Ben's father used his telekinesis to throw all of them back. When MG recovered, he used his speed to get to the angel who gripped him by the neck and held him up before he tossed him away like he was nothing, watching as he landed on the ground harshly. Jed was the next one to try and attack the angel but he blocked his attacks almost effortlessly and kicked him in the chest, sending him flying back. "Is this all that you are capable of doing? Truly pathetic." He mocked as he watched the way Hope was murmuring a spell and if he had to guess, it was a dark spell, meant to kill him. "You are doing nothing but proving to me that you are nothing but monsters." Ben's father disappeared from sight and reappeared behind Hope, blocking her attack this time when she sensed him behind her. He held her leg in his hand and twisted hard enough that he heard it snap out of place, her yell of pain was like music to the angel's ear. He pushed her aside as though she weighed nothing and began advancing toward Ben next, only to be stopped when Jed hit him on the back of the head with a rock hard enough that it made his vessel bleed, but that was it, really.
Ben's father blocked his next punch, and then the kick that followed, Jed attempted to do the same when the angel attacked him but he was way stronger. He backhanded Jed which sent him back to the ground. MG blurred back to where the angel was and barely even managed to get a single attack in before the angel snapped his neck, wiping his hands with disgust visible on his features as the vampire's body flopped onto the ground, momentarily unconscious. He began advancing toward Ben again, this time, it was Hope who gripped onto his leg to stop him, but he merely stepped on her wrist until he heard it break under his shoe. He continued advancing toward Ben after that. "Go ahead, child. Attack me. Ah, right. You do not know how to use your powers. Useless. Just how did you think you would have been able to defeat me? You and your friends are capable of nothing other than babbling and making empty promises. It is about time you realized that none of you are capable of stopping me. So, are you going to stop trying to break your curse or shall I proceed? Surrender and I may show you an ounce of mercy although it is not something you are worthy of."
