Matt had no idea what had happened to him or where he had been during the time he was missing but it was clear to him that something had changed and he knew that he was determined to get to the bottom of what that was. There had to be an explanation about how he suddenly knew how to wield a sword outside of one of the video games that he was used to playing with Ty and Jere and something about him felt different as well. He couldn’t put his finger on what it was but he knew that he needed to find out. He had always known that there was something strange going on in Mystic Falls but the truth was that he just hadn’t wanted to know what that was. It had apparently enabled Damon to make him forget things on more than a few occasions, things that were all coming flooding back to Matt now. He was filled with fresh rage and grief over what had happened to Vicki to the point where he had almost decapitated Damon. Even though the guy had done some awful things during his time in Mystic Falls Matt was still certain that his friends would never forgive him for killing the guy and the truth was that Matt knew that he would never forgive himself either. He had already killed the creature that had attacked the two of them and even though it was clear that it wasn’t human, at least not any longer, he knew that it was going to take him a while to get his head around the fact that he had taken a life. In time he knew that he would come to terms with it but right now all he wanted was to get home, provided his landlord hadn’t kicked him out of course, and then he could at least start trying to get his head around what had happened and move on with his life. Unfortunately that meant that he had to endure some more time with Damon first since the guy was insisting on giving him a ride back into town but once they were back there Matt knew they would be able to go their separate ways and with any luck at that point he would be able to avoid Damon for a while and the hate that he felt for the vampire would start to settle down a little. He knew that he was never going to forget what Damon had done to Vicki but he also knew that he couldn’t let that consume him so he needed to find a balance. It was going to take time and he knew that he should probably reach out to his friends for support but the truth was that right now he knew that at least some of them had lied to him so he wasn’t entirely sure who he could trust. “How so?” h asked, not sure what Damon meant when he said that feeding on animals didn’t leave people the same. Matt would be the first to admit that he was new to all of this so all he knew about the supernatural world so far was what Damon had told him that day and the memories that had come back to him ever since he’d woken up in the woods. It was still strange to think that vampires were real and that Stefan’s diet apparently resembled something out of Twilight but Damon confirmed that it was true and Matt found his expression turning thoughtful for a minute. “So Stefan feeds from animals so he doesn’t lost control and you go around drinking from humans and killing people?” he questioned, certain that there was probably a lot more about what Damon had been up to during his time in Mystic Falls that he didn’t know. The scowl that crossed Damon’s face at his words was enough to give Matt a grim sense of satisfaction. “Trust me, it wouldn’t be me losing my head,” he chuckled but he knew that Damon was right. He was going to have enough explaining to do as it was without adding any more to it so he knew that he needed to keep his anger in check on the drive home and he would be able to do just that as long as Damon kept his mouth shut. Climbing in the passenger’s side of the car he managed to fold the sword away but he kept his hand on it nonetheless just in case Damon tried anything. DAMON SALVATORE

Damon knew that the minute he got Matt back to town and the Scooby Gang all realized that every bit of compulsion they’d put into place to protect Matt was gone the finger would be pointed at him. It wasn’t like he hadn’t done worse before but the last couple of months he’d been doing his best to avoid moments like this. The old Damon would’ve blown every door in Matt’s head open to make him see the truth but now Damon found himself almost reluctant to do that. The kid had already been missing for days, he had new found Zorro skills and a sword that probably could’ve taken his head off with a single blow. Matt had just learned exactly how his sister had died and what part his friends had played in it all. That was enough truth for now, especially since most of that truth was to do with exactly what role he’d had in it all. He’d been the one to turn Vicki in the first place and he’d been there at the end, trying to do the right thing, but obviously way too late. If he’d put a little effort in before, instead of only giving a damn about one thing, a woman who absolutely hadn’t deserved it, maybe things would’ve turned out differently. He still had a chance to make it up in some way here but it was pretty damn obvious that he wasn’t going to manage to do it with Matt out here in the woods and if he screwed this up Damon knew that he wouldn’t have a chance with the others either. As it was Bonnie was likely to give him the judgy eyes and a brain melting whammy for messing with her friend.
He couldn’t see Stefan appreciating him blowing all his secrets wide open either but he needed to adjust Matt’s thinking before they got back and he tarred every vampire with the hate Damon Salvatore brush. Stefan was probably already on the list now thanks to him. Damon huffed out a breath, dragging a hand over his head. ”People can survive on a bread and water diet, right? They can feast like kings and live, they can have the plainest thing on earth and live but out of the two, who’s gonna be the strongest, the healthiest? It’s the same for vampires. You can live on that stuff but you’re gonna be slower, you’re gonna be weaker. Any full strength vampire who’s been drinking human blood is going to absolutely kick your ass.” Unless you were a Mikaelson but Damon was willing to bet that none of them had ever gone veggie. Sucking in a breath, Damon nodded. Definitely dead at Stefan’s hands for this. ”Right. A little while back he went off the wagon and it didn’t go well. It’s the reason there’s a cell at the house.” Honestly, he’d probably spent more time there than anybody but with all that had happened that had been expected. If Matt found out what he’d done to Caroline too there wouldn’t be any safe walk back to the car. Blue eyes narrowed at Matt’s chuckled threat. Damon moved a few extra steps away. ”No but it’d be you having a damn awkward question about how my head happened to tumble right off right about when you turned back up with all these old memories and a sword in your hand.” Most wouldn’t be all that hurt about it either. Damon climbed into the driver’s seat and shot Matt a look before he pulled out. ”Buckle up. I’m not taking any chances getting you back to town.” Wondering how the hell they were gonna get to the bottom of this Damon started the car and headed towards town.

Matt had known that something had changed from the moment that the Salvatore brothers arrived in town but he hadn’t believed Vicki when she had said that she was attacked by a vampire and he regretted not trusting what she had seen now. Deep down he knew that a part of him hadn’t wanted to believe that what she was saying was true, Matt had always known that he was never going to get the chance to leave Mystic Falls so he hadn’t wanted her to be right about it and admit that there were monsters in town that really did go bump in the night. All Matt had wanted was to keep his head down and make it through high school in one piece and, if he was lucky, perhaps get a scholarship to play football at college since he knew that that was the only way he was going to get the chance to join his friends in going. Matt would be the first to admit that he wasn’t the best student in the world but he did his best and he knew that he wanted to make something of his life. He wanted to be more than the dad that had abandoned his family before Matt was even born, more than the mom who drank too much and went from one sleazy guy to another and more than the sister who had been happy to throw her life away by getting involved with drink and things. There were times when Matt couldn’t shake the feeling that all those around him were just watching and waiting to see him turn out just like the rest of the family but that wasn’t who Matt was. He had his friends to help keep him on the right path, albeit friends that he now knew had been keeping things from him for quite some time, and he knew that he could count on them to be there when he needed them. He wasn’t the kind of guy who was comfortable taking charity from the people he cared about but he did know how to accept help from his friends in other ways when he needed it. Right now he knew that he needed his friends but he wasn’t ready to reach out yet. He needed time to get his head around the fact that Damon was responsible for killing Vicki as well as the fact that his friends had been keeping the truth from him for the last few years. He understood why they had done it, they wanted to protect him from everything that was going on in Mystic Falls, but it hadn’t worked and he had ended up being thrown into the supernatural world anyway. He didn’t know who had taken him or what had been done to him but he knew that something in him felt different and he needed to get to the bottom of why that was. He knew that he wasn’t the same person that he used to be, after all the skills that he had displayed when he and Damon were attacked were proof enough of that, but he knew that he didn’t want to become a killer like so many others in the town so as far as he was concerned it was all about finding the right balance and learning how to control these and whatever other new abilities he might have. That was going to take time but he knew that he would figure it out sooner or later, he had to. “So it makes Stefan weaker but he chooses to do it anyway?” Matt asked, unable to deny that he had a newfound respect for the guy. If Stefan had to deny his basic instincts and drink animal blood instead of human to make sure that he was able to stay in control then it was enough to make Matt confident that he would figure it out too. As Damon spoke again, Matt’s eyes widened in surprise. “That’s messed up but probably a good thing,” he admitted. He couldn’t even begin to imagine how difficult it must be to crave human blood and have to avoid it or risk losing control and he was glad that he wasn’t in the same position. “He’s ok now though, right?” he asked, hoping that the answer to that question was yes. The way Damon moved a few extra steps away didn’t go unnoticed and it was enough to make Matt laugh. “You’ve got a point. Besides, I don’t want any more blood on my hands than I already have,” he shrugged. Unless Damon really pushed him and he lost control then he knew that the vampire would be safe for now but Matt didn’t want to push it anyway. Climbing into the passenger’s side, Matt nodded as Damon told him to buckle up and he did just that. “I didn’t know you cared,” he said sarcastically as Damon started driving in the direction of town. This wasn’t what any of the Scooby Gang had wanted. There was a reason Matt had been compelled, a reason why they were all keeping him in the dark. Damon supposed that the keeping him entirely safe from the supernatural world idea had gone right out of the window. While they’d all been running around, still trying to figure out what Niklaus Mikaelson was going to do next something else had snuck in and snatched their blue eyed boy away. Of course, there could’ve been some perfectly human explanation to all of this but one look at Matt swinging the sword around had told him there was less chance that Matt had spent a week at ninja school than there was that something out there could do something that he had absolutely no hope of explaining to the others. This went beyond rituals and witches ripping hearts from chests, he was willing to bet it went beyond an ancient love triangle creating generations of doppelgangers too. This was a sort of weird that none of them had seen before. Maybe if one of the others had been here when the walls in Matt’s mind had come down they’d have managed this better but it had been him and Damon knew that all he could do was try and educate the kid without ticking him off to the point where that sword would start swinging again. He imagined it’d be far less of a problem if Matt was to come back carrying his head than it would’ve been the other way around. Stefan. Claire and maybe Elena would’ve mourned him but the rest, Matt included, might’ve seen it as just desserts for the stuff he’d pulled since he’d come back to town.
Throwing Stefan under the bus with the veggie vamp thing maybe wasn’t the way go about making up for that stuff but he didn’t think that telling Matt to hold his horses on the questions til they got back to the Boarding House probably wouldn’t go down too well. Damon sighed and nodded, squelching the urge to roll his eyes. ”Given the choice between being a ripper and killing Bambi’s mom, Stefan will take the mom every time.” Matt hadn’t seen what happened when Stefan’s control started to slip, hadn’t tried to piece back together a broken brother when inevitably the gravity of what he’d done hit. They might not always have been on each others’ side but he didn’t want to see Stefan heading in that direction again. Damon knew he’d never be the same though. Picking fur from his teeth left him shuddering. Making a low sound in his throat, Damon shrugged. ”Gotta dry out the vamps going off the rails one way or another.” As a means of attitude adjustment the cell had been a complete failure, for him at least. Slipping his hands into the pockets of his jeans, Damon bobbed his head in answer to Matt’s question. Stefan was just peachy. It looked like it was the rest of them who were headed for trouble. Starting back towards the car, keeping more than a sword’s distance for Matt, Damon held his hands up. ”Call me a fan of that plan,” he drawled. That was the main difference between Matt and most of the rest of them, they didn’t mind the blood so much, not when it was necessary. Damon’s lips curled into a catty smile once they were in the Camaro and heading for town. ”Like I said, I don’t want any awkward questions if only one us manages to make it back town. I stop suddenly and you might just take your own head off with that thing.” His smile turned almost feral as he whipped around the familiar turns and back out onto the road that lead into town. This was going to be hard enough to explain as it was.

A part of Matt wished that he could remember what had happened to him and where he had been taken during the time that he was missing but another part of him wasn’t so sure that he wanted to know. Right now there was so much that was going through his head and he had so many questions but when it all settled down in the back of his mind he knew that he would realise that he wasn’t the same guy that he was a week ago and he wasn’t sure that he was ready for that. Something had been done to him, something that he couldn’t explain just yet, and it had already made him kill the creature that had attacked him and Damon. It had also almost made him cut Damon’s head off and no matter how much the guy might have deserved it after everything that he had done to Vicki, Matt was still sure that he wouldn’t be able to forgive himself for it. He knew that he didn’t want to become a killer like Damon so he knew that he needed to find a way to control whatever it was that was inside of him now and he knew that he just had to hope that in time he would. Matt knew that he could lean on his friends if he needed to but if he was honest he wasn’t too sure who to trust right now so all he wanted was to get home and try and find a way to get his head around everything that had happened. Damon had asked a lot of questions that Matt just didn’t have the answers to just yet and he knew that he didn’t want to go through the same thing with all of his friends. Right now all he wanted to do was get home, having something to eat and get some sleep because it felt like he hadn’t been able to do either of those things in a week. “I can’t really blame him,” Matt admitted. He knew what it was like to not want to become a monster after everything that had happened that day so he could understand why Stefan would choose the option that would let him stay in control even if it was something that not everyone would understand. Whatever he was now Matt knew that he didn’t want to lose control and hurt anyone and if Stefan was able to find a way to manage his natural instincts and stay in control then Matt knew that he was going to have to find a way to do the same. He knew that it wasn’t going to be easy until he found out exactly what had been done to him but he knew that he wasn’t going to give up. “I guess if it works then it doesn’t hurt,” Matt shrugged. It was still a little creep to think that there was an actual dungeon in the basement of the Boarding House but he knew that he just had to trust that it was something that they needed from time to time. “That’s probably just wishful thinking on your part,” Matt said, a half smile tugging at the corner of his mouth before he quickly let his expression turn neutral once more. He couldn’t let himself start to feel comfortable around the monster that had killed his sister, it just wasn’t possible. Matt was pretty sure that he was never going to trust Damon after everything that the vampire had done and he wasn’t sure that he was ready to forgive him yet either so he knew that he just had to remember that Damon was a means to an end right now. The guy was able to give him a ride back to town but when they got there he knew that they were going to go their separate ways. “You know how to get to my house from here, right?” Matt asked, his eyes on the road as Damon drove them towards town before he turned his gaze back to the sword that was resting on his lap and he soon realised that he was able to turn it into a belt. “I’m not ready to see anyone yet.” That was something that could wait a while, at least until he’d showered, had something to eat and managed to get some sleep although not necessarily in that order. He might’ve sported his own bleeding heart at times, been cracked to the core by the slings and arrows of being Giuseppe Salvatore’s son and allowing himself to fall in love with a master manipulator, but Stefan had always been the more tender hearted of the two of them. His little brother trusted people, he liked to believe in the best in them, wanted to shield the poor little sheep and help them up out of the mire of their own crappy lives. In a way it was admirable, in another it allowed people to use him. Damon knew he had been on that list himself at times, playing on that naïve part of his brother to get out of hot water, to make him hurt in the same way he had done himself at the thought of a possible thousand years of life without Katherine right there beside him. When it had come down to it the most Stefan had always been the one ready to sacrifice himself. That was why being the one who literally tore the heads from his victims weighed so heavily on his brother, the anvil crushing his heart every time he eventually got his head above that bloody water. Guilt was a bitch.
Matt had already realised that, Damon thought. Given the way he’d reacted to killing the thing that had been about to kill them. He might’ve been sporting a sword now but he was never gonna be a cold blooded killer. Damon shrugged at the idea, knowing that when he was himself Stefan wouldn’t be either. ”It works for some, doesn’t for others,” he muttered. It hadn’t for Vicki, undoubtedly there’d been too much of her unintentional maker in her. He shifted restlessly at the thought. That really had been on him. He’d turned her, he’d toyed with her and in the end he’d had to help stop her. Undoubtedly he’d be the only one Matt would blame for it in the end. Glancing back at Matt, his smile turned wry. ”You wouldn’t say that if you were the one on the other side of the bars but from outside, sure, doesn’t hurt at all.” Too many times he’d been the one in there drying out. Necessary? Maybe. Pleasant? Never. Blue eyes narrowed at Matt’s teasing, his face screwing up for a moment. ”Let’s hope not.” For his sake he hoped Matt carried on being their blue eyed boy all the way back into town.
At least in the Camaro there was less room to swing the sword around. Damon’s eyes swept over the road in front of them, that little smile a veneer on his face. He tapped his fingers lightly on the wheel, snorting at Matt’s question. ”Worried I’m gonna drop you off somewhere else? Of course I know my way.” He’d once known the town like the back of his hand but it’d been far smaller then, cars not even imagined. Damon grunted, half understanding why Matt didn’t want to face anybody else. It was part of the reason why he’d run from town after Katherine had shattered his poor little heart. ”You do realise they’ll all gonna try and be over there the minute I tell them I found you, right? I mean, I could try and stop them but have you seen Elena go full mother hen?” Damon let out a whistle, cutting through the outskirts of town to avoid having to go right through the centre to Matt’s place. Elena might’ve been relatively small but he was willing to bet that anybody who tried to keep her from one of her oldest friends now was going to be steam rollered in an instant.

Right now Matt was still trying to get his head around everything that had happened. He had known that it was strange waking up in the woods with no recollection of how he even got there but then Damon had found him and Matt had had no choice but to kill the creature that had attacked them and he knew that it was going to take him time to find a way to set aside the guilt that he felt over that. It was clear to Matt that the creature wasn’t human but then again apparently neither was Damon and Matt wouldn’t be surprised if he wasn’t either. It was the only thing that seemed to explain how all of the compulsion that had been used on him over the years had suddenly washed away but if it meant that he would be better placed to protect himself now then perhaps it wasn’t going to be such a bad thing after all. Matt knew that he needed to learn how to control these new instincts that he suddenly seemed to have but he had time to figure that out and he knew that he wasn’t going to stop until he found out what had happened to him. It didn’t make sense that a week had gone by without him even realising it but then again none of this made much sense at the moment so he had a feeling that he was going to have to find a way to be patient no matter how hard that might be. “Sounds like you’re talking from experience. I’m guessing Stefan isn’t the only one who has spent time in there detoxing?” Matt asked, pretty sure that his suspicions were correct this time. There was something about the way that Damon had said it and Matt knew that things had been tough between the Salvatore brothers for a while so he wouldn’t be surprised if that had something to do with it. “Relax, I’m not going to hurt you,” he assured Damon as they started heading towards town. “If I’d wanted to then I wouldn’t have stopped myself back there.” He could have easily followed through with it and killed Damon but he hadn’t, he had stopped himself and the truth was that he really didn’t want any more blood on his hands so even if Damon annoyed him he would do his best to keep his temper under control. Studying the sword carefully for a moment, Matt’s expression turned thoughtful for a moment as the light hit it in a different way and he caught sight of what looked like a button on the hilt. Pressing it, the sword seemed to collapse into different links once more and he rolled it up. “That’s handy,” he admitted. “Feel better now?” he asked, an eyebrow raised as he looked over at Damon who would no doubt be feeling safer now that the weapon was gone for the time being. “I don’t exactly live in the nice part of town, I wouldn’t be surprised if you didn’t know it,” he admitted. His friends all lived in the better part of town but the house that he had once shared with his mom and sister was all that they had been able to afford so it had to do. “Yeah I have but I’m sure you could find a way to stop them if you really put your mind to it,” Matt shrugged, his gaze drifting out the window as he watched the streets passing by. Things had been … unpleasant when he’d come back to town that first time. Stefan had been living at the Boarding House with Zach, playing at being nothing more than a high school kid while he’d danced around Elena. He’d known Katherine was buried in town then, had been yanking strings left, right and centre to try and manipulate everybody around him into making sure that the woman he’d blindly loved could finally be freed after being trapped for a hundred and fifty years. Destroying Stefan’s new life in Mystic Falls had been an added benefit, everything done to get under his brother’s skin, to break Stefan’s life down bit by bit like he’d always promised to. That hadn’t gone entirely to plan, Damon thought, tapping his fingers on the steering wheel as Matt’s dry comment had him snorting. He shook his head slowly, hus thumb joining in the rapid tattoo of sound. Zach had been a little more prepared than he’d thought, Stefan’s attachment to this happy new little life in Mystic Falls strong enough that they’d both turned against him for a time. In Stefan’s case at least. Zach, unfortunately, hadn’t lived long enough to get on the Damon Salvatore forgiveness train.
A faint smirk curved Damon’s lips as he shifted in his seat to look sideways at Matt. Their little blue eyed boy was more astute than any of them had given him credit for now that all the compulsion had been erased by whoever it was who’d been holding onto him. ”Let’s just say I did some of my best thinking down there. I’ve got your friend Caroline to thank for making sure I didn’t have to stay down there too long.” His connection to Caroline had allowed him to call out to her when he’d needed to. Thankfully there hadn’t been any recent return trips there lately, there shouldn’t need to be now that he and Stefan were on far better terms.
Glancing sideways at Matt, Damon winged a brow. The kid wouldn’t have much chance here, not now that he knew what the hell Matt was suddenly capable of. Still, he was gonna be wary, if the interior of the Camaro ended up in ribbons he was gonna be pissed. ”You’ll just threaten to when you wanna keep me in line,” he said, a knowing tone to his voice. ”I’m just gonna say I’m glad you’ve got a little control with that thing and a conscience and leave it at that.” Some wouldn’t have held back and there were few in town who would’ve condemned them for it. He’d burned a lot of bridges since he’d come back that first time. He saw Matt study the sword, watched him hit something on the hilt and sword almost collapse in his grip. The corners of Damon’s lips twitched up. ”Ecstatic,” he said dryly. Snorting, he shook his head and drove on autopilot. ”I’m not blind, Arthur. I know where you live.” There was a compliment in Matt’s words somewhere, he was pretty sure of that. A smirk tugged at Damon’s lips as he propped his wrists on top of the wheel, his fingers still tapping in the air. ”I could lie, by omission of course, pretend I didn’t find you out in the woods playing human Ninja Foodi. Unless you don’t want me lying to them.” He lobbed the ball back into Matt’s court, screeching around a corner, just blocks from Matt’s place now.

Matt couldn’t believe that out of all of his friends it was Damon who had found him out in the woods like that. He hadn’t expected it and he knew that if it had been one of the others then perhaps things would have gone differently but at the end of the day he had done what he’d needed to in order to save them both. Matt had a feeling that he was going to be haunted by killing the creature for a while but he knew that if he hadn’t killed it then it would have killed them so he didn’t regret taking such drastic lengths. He still didn’t understand how he had suddenly become a natural with a sword when he’d never seen one before outside of a video game but it was just one more thing to add to the list of things that he didn’t understand at the moment. H had no idea who had taken him or what they had done to him but he knew that he would figure it out sooner or later, he needed answers. For now, though, he knew that he would settle for just getting home in one piece. They had already been attacked once and Matt knew that there were plenty of creatures out there now that he remembered everything that he had been compelled to forget and he knew that it wouldn’t be a good idea to push his luck too much. “You didn’t hurt her, did you?” he asked, knowing that he wouldn’t put it past Damon. He remembered what had happened to Vicki among other things now but his friends had still kept him in the dark when it came to others so he had a lot to learn but now that his eyes had been opened to that world and compulsion no longer seemed to work he knew that he needed to find out as much as he could so that he could make sure that he wasn’t caught out like he had been that day again. “I don’t think I’ll need to, you’re not stupid enough to try something in an enclosed space like this,” he shrugged as he settled back in his seat. Damon was a lot of things but suicidal wasn’t one of those. As Damon spoke again, Matt glanced out the window as his expression turned thoughtful for a moment. “I don’t know what has been done to me but whatever it is I refuse to let them take that away from me,” he muttered. He refused to become a monster, he had managed to find some control but he knew that he was going to need to get a handle on this to make sure that he didn’t end up doing something that he would end up regretting. Rolling his eyes as Damon said that he wasn’t blind and knew where he lived, Matt turned his attention to the road once more. “A little lie would be good, at least until I figure out what happened. They didn’t want me dragged into any of this and I don’t want them looking at me differently until I know what was done to me.”DAMON SALVATORE

He could’ve kept lying about most things and Matt wouldn’t have known the difference. The compulsion that’d locked Matt’s memories of the supernatural in this town away behind closed doors had been shattered by whatever had happened to him but he didn’t know everything yet. They hadn’t just safely tucked away what he had seen, they’ve all worked their asses off to make sure that Matt hadn’t heard about all that was going on in the first place. Poor innocent Matt, kept in the dark for his own good. Now far too aware for his own good. The next couple of weeks were going to be awkward, those difficult questions fired at people with a shotgun’s violence, tearing open old wounds, making confession and the request for absolution the only way any of them were likely to get through this.
Damon knew he had plenty of that to do, had been doing it ever since he’d slunk back into town to try and protect Elena from what he’d heard was coming. A dozen mea culpas wouldn’t do anything for some of those he’d hurt but he’d rebuilt his bridges with Stefan, was working on those he’d burned to the ground with others. Caroline was still on the list of those who likely held onto their hate for him tooth and nail, right along with Bonnie. He tapped his fingers on the wheel as Matt asked if he’d hurt Caroline, a grimace tugging at his face. ‘Hurt’ was a concept with a sliding scale and in a way he had hurt Caroline. Maybe he could’ve lied about it now but there was that sword. ”It depends on what you consider hurting…” he drawled finally. ”I compelled her, same as you.” He’d fed from her too, turned her into the perfect little girlfriend just to get under Stefan’s skin. It had worked but there was always a cost of some kind.
Something Matt was probably realising right about now.
If he wasn’t careful he was gonna pay another himself. The line was always too easy to toe, his mouth carrying him over it in a heartbeat. Matt had almost taken his head off back in the woods, leaving him far warier now. Damon made a sound low in his throat, tilted his head one way, then the other. ”Stupid, naw, but I think you might be overestimating my sense of preservation there Secret Samurai. One of us is gonna be a lot better off than the other if things really do kick off in here.” Short of the sword taking off his head, which was unlikely given the cramped space in the Camaro, anything else would heal. Brow furrowing, Damon glanced aside at Matt as he looked away. Staying on your high horse was a lot more difficult when you control was suddenly stripped away, he didn’t want to say it aloud but Matt was gonna learn that soon. That horse was gonna get super slippery soon, staying on it impossible. ”Now you want me to hide stuff.” Damon chuckled, the low sound filling the car as he turned onto Matt’s street. ”You get the irony in that right? I’ll just let them know you’re home and safe, I found you on the side of the road, gave you a lift. Anything else is down to you.” They were all gonna be pissed when they realised he’d kept something from them again but honestly, Damon thought as he pulled up in front of Matt’s place, what was new there.
