– don't be afraid to love, to be vulnerable –
Jenna felt a gentle smile form on her lips as she looked at her family. She loved having a full house like this. Sure, they were missing a few members to complete the family but even having just a few like this with her made her feel really happy. Having a family like this had always been Jenna's dream and she was beyond happy to have finally achieved that dream. Each member in the house right now really did mean a lot to her. Jenna wasn't really surprised to hear that Jed wanted to become a hybrid. She had talked about it with Ric before and it really did feel like a part of them had already known even before Jed had said a word about this. Jenna was more than happy to support them because they really did mean a lot to her. With Jed becoming immortal, she knew that he'd be able to keep an eye on Josie when they can't. It made her feel pretty comforted in that regard.
Her expression softened when Jed revealed that he wanted to go through with his plan to turn into a hybrid by the weekend if Hope gave her blessings as well. Knowing the kid, she had no doubt she'd say yes. Hope didn't seem like the type of person to stand in the way of someone else's happiness and with how much she cared about Josie, she won't stand in the direction of her brother's happiness. She gave Ric's hand a squeeze. "It's not too soon, sweetheart. If that's what you want, we'll support you." Jenna said with a nod of her head following, her smile still evident on her lips. "Of course, baby." Jenna nodded again. She'd love nothing more than to be there for Jed as he woke up. "Thank you, for inviting us to be with you on that special day." Jenna added a moment later, her smile still present on her lips.

– I freed myself from words never said –
Jed's lips stretched into a grin at his dad's words. Of course his dad knew him all too well. Jed narrowed his eyes playfully at his sister when she warned Ben about his antics before shaking his head. "Y'know, you're airin' out my dirty laundry with so much confidence when your girlfriend is my close friend. I'll just have to tell her some of yours too. We'll see who'll have the last laugh." Jed nudged Josie with a grin resting on his lips. He nodded his head in agreement with Ben, his smile still locked on his lips. Who needs control anyway when it comes to delicious food? "I'm glad you think so." Jed replied when Ben said he thought it was quite cute. "Well, he finds it cute, so it doesn't matter." He replied teasingly at Josie's teasing comment.
Jed's expression softened when they all gave their blessings for him to go through with his plan to become a hybrid. He really appreciated the support they were giving him and he felt beyond lucky, too. "Yeah, I wasn't gonna go through with any of this if you guys had said no." Jed said with a quick nod of his head following. His expression softened when his dad that he never needed to thank them. There was another 'thank you' hanging onto the tip of his tongue. "Thanks, Jo." Jed replied when his sister said she'd look out for them in return along with Hope.
"Yeah, I guess I don't." Jed replied with a sheepish chuckle following. "Hey, it's her blood, she can say yes or no if she wants to. I won't hold it against her." Jed said with a quick shrug following. "Okay, you won't have to keep it for long. We'll tell her soon." Jed assured. He was really glad to hear that they all wanted to be there for him. Plus, they could always keep Ben distracted while he's under. That way, Ben won't be alone. "Oh, mom, if anything, I should be the one thanking you guys. But, you're welcome. It's my absolute pleasure." Jed said with a gentle smile resting on his lips, his eyes relaxing on his mom before his eyes moved to Josie as he processed her question.
"Uh. Not really. I mean, if Hope accepts my offer to take my place as the Alpha, then she'd essentially have to do it herself. But I guess as long as its painless then I don't really care how I go. I just want it to be as scar-less as possible for you guys." Jed said with a brief chuckle following. To him, he didn't mind how he was going to go as long as he wasn't going to leave people behind with a scar to carry for the rest of their lives.

There was a time when Ric might have been surprised that Jed would decide that he wanted to become a hybrid but those days were long gone. It had come as a surprise to learn that Josie had thought about becoming a heretic so she and Hope could stay together but Ric knew that he was always going to see her as his baby girl. Jed was different, he was still young when they took him in but he was already independent to an extent. It had taken him a while to open up to them and let them in but once he had done they had started to see what an incredible young man he was and Ric knew that he was never going to regret bringing him home to live with them. He had become a part of their family and as far as Ric was concerned it didn’t matter to him that he and Jenna had adopted him and he wasn’t related to them by blood, he was still their son and he always would be. He had seen just how serious Jed and Ben were about each other and after realising that he and Jenna had talked about what the future might look like for their son. Jed hadn’t let the fact that he had been killed by a dragon tear them apart, in fact if anything it had brought them closer together and Ric had realised that nothing was going to break them up. There was only one way they would get to have the kind of future together that they wanted and this was it. Josie was already immortal and she would have Elena, Hope and her friends there for her when the rest of them were gone but Ric couldn’t deny that he was glad she would have Jed and Ben looking out for her as well. Ric rolled his eyes in amusement at the exchange between Jed and Josie, they were clearly enjoying teasing each other and he could see that Ben was amused as well. It had always been the same way between the two of them, they loved winding each other up and that was something that Ric had grown used to. They got along well and they looked out for each other so it was good to know that they would be able to continue being there for each other. “We wouldn’t have said no, son,” Ric assured him when Jed said he wouldn’t have gone through with it if they had said no. “This is what you want and we can see you’ve thought it through,” Ric assured him. It might not be the future they’d envisioned for Jed originally but it was the one they had suspected he would want since they realised how serious he and Ben were about each other so there was no way that they were going to stop supporting them now. As long as Jed was happy then that was all that mattered to Ric and he knew that it was the same for Jenna as well. It was going to be strange watching Jed die and complete his transition but Jed wanted them there so Ric knew that they weren’t going to let him down. “It will be peaceful, don’t worry. We won’t let you get hurt,” Ric assured him. Even if Hope didn’t want to help or didn’t feel like she could then Ric knew that they would find another way, as far as he was concerned it was the least they could do for Jed. Ben knew how nervous Jed had been about talking to his family so he was so glad that it was going well. He knew that they all meant the world to Jed and there wasn’t a doubt in Ben’s mind that if they didn’t support Jed’s decision then he wouldn’t go ahead with it. Jed hadn’t had the kind of family that he deserved while he was growing up and it was clear to Ben that he had finally found the family he was meant to have in the Saltzmans. They had taken Jed in and given him a home when he hadn’t had anyone else and they had loved him even when he had pushed them away. Ben knew that Jed’s life would have turned out very differently if not for them and that was something that he didn’t even want to think about. Jed had told him that he was a different person to the one he used to be and Ben believed him. He knew that Jed’s family had helped shape him into the person he was today and that was someone that Ben loved with his whole heart so their approval meant the world to him as well. Naturally there was some teasing first and Ben couldn’t stop a smile from forming on his face as he caught sight of Jed’s grin. It looked like Ric really did know him well and Ben was glad about that. As Jed threatened to air some of Josie’s dirty laundry as well, Ben couldn’t help but laugh. It really was fun to watch the two of them together sometimes and he was glad that they would still have each other even when the rest of their family was gone. Thankfully that wouldn’t be for a long time but it was still a relief to know that Jed would have more than just him in his corner because Ben knew that he needed that. “I do,” Ben assured him as Jed said he was glad he thought that it was cute that he liked to steal food. “Knowing you do that here shows that you feel at home with me and I’m never going to think badly about that,” he added, a fond smile forming on his lips as he voiced his earlier thoughts. He had always hoped that Jed knew that he didn’t have to try and be someone else with him or be on his best behaviour, Ben loved him just the way he was so he didn’t have to pretend. Ben knew there was still a chance that Hope might say no to turning Jed into a hybrid but he honestly hoped that she wouldn’t. Josie seemed to think that she would go ahead with it and she knew her better than any of them so Ben trusted her and he hoped that she was right. He wasn’t surprised that Ric, Jenna and Josie all wanted to be there for Jed when he became a hybrid, they were such a close family and this was something that would change Jed’s life so it wasn’t a surprise that they wanted to be a part of it and if he was honest he was glad that they were going to be there. Ben had honestly worried that he would end up going through that wait alone so knowing that they would be there was a relief to say the least and he knew that Jed would want to see them the moment he woke up as well. As Jed answered Josie’s question, Ben’s expression softened. “I’ll second that, we don’t want any more trauma,” Ben said as he kissed Jed’s cheek gently. He had already watched Jed die once and even though Jed had never talked about the pain, Ben had died enough times in so many different ways to know that it must have been excruciating and he didn’t want Jed to go through that again. “I hate that you’re going to have to go through this again but it will be worth it in the end,” he said gently. “At least this time it will be on your terms.”JENNA SALTZMAN & JED SALTZMAN

Josie knew now that she shouldn’t have been surprised that Jed wanted to become a hybrid. It made sense considering that he faced the same issue of the person he loved being immortal while he was mortal that she would have faced with Hope if she had triggered her vampire side first but his decision honestly had taken her by surprise. It definitely wasn’t a bad thing though, and she couldn’t deny that she was glad that she would have her brother there with her no matter what. They wound each other up and teased each other but they really did love each other. “I’d like to see you try, Hope probably knows more than you do,” Josie laughed. Hope was her best friend before they got together but she knew deep down that there were things that Jed knew from living with her that Hope wouldn’t. “Alright, I’ll stop. Ben will figure it all out on his own eventually anyway,” she grinned before rolling her eyes at her brother and Ben as she watched the exchange between the two of them. “You two are so whipped,” she teased although there was no malice to her words whatsoever, truth be told she was incredibly happy for both of them. As the boys said that they wouldn’t have gone through with it if they hadn’t had the support of her parents, Josie’s expression softened. That was something that she understood all too well because she knew that she wouldn’t have been able to go through with becoming a heretic if she hadn’t had their support either. That decision had been taken away from her by Ben’s father but this was still Jed’s decision to make and she knew that she wanted him to be able to do things his way. “Any time,” she said, offering Jed a smile as he thanked her. He had always looked out for her and he had been there for her when she had needed him so she knew that she was going to do the same for him. “Hope won’t say no, I’m sure of it,” Josie said gently. She knew that her girlfriend would probably be hesitant at first but this was what Jed wanted and Josie knew that Hope wouldn’t deny him that. “Thanks, I appreciate that,” she said sincerely as Jed said that they would tell Hope soon so she wouldn’t have to keep it to herself for too long. Josie had never been very good at keeping things from Hope even before the two of them got together so she was glad that they were going to tell her soon. Another thing Josie knew for sure was that they were going to be there for Jed while he became a hybrid and they would look after Ben through what was sure to be an agonising wait as well. As Jed said Hope would have to kill him if she decided to accept the offer of becoming an Alpha, Josie found herself nodding. “That won’t be easy for her to do but there are ways it can be painless. Hope will make a great Alpha but she might not feel ready for it yet,” she said gently. “If she isn’t then we’ll find another way.”JENNA SALTZMAN & JED SALTZMAN

"Alaric's right. We'll always support you, my sweet boy. We would never stand in your way. We trust that you've thought this through." Jenna said with a quick nod of her head following, her smile still present on her lips. Jenna was quiet as she listened to Jed, nodding her head a few times. She found it endearing that despite everything, he was still putting their comfort first by making sure that he won't leave them with deep scars from seeing him die. Jenna had a feeling that along with his desire to have them around him, he wanted them to be there for Ben too while he was gone. He never said that out loud, but that was the feeling that Jenna was getting as she glanced between Jed and Ben. They weren't there the first time Jed had died but Ben had been there and she can't imagine the amount of sadness and pain he must've felt. "Don't worry, sweetheart. I'm sure there'll be a way for it to be painless. From what I've learned so far, there's almost a spell for everything." Jenna said with a quick nod following, her eyes relaxing on Jed once more.
Jenna's attention moved to rest on Josie, listening quietly as she spoke. She also had the same feeling that Hope won't say no to Jed. The boy could be compelling when he wanted to, and not to mention Hope wasn't the type of person to stand in someone's way. So, she had faith in the young girl to support Jed and Ben in their decision.
Jenna remained quiet for the most part as she listened instead. Knowing the young girl, she will probably doubt her abilities to lead but from what Jenna had seen so far, the young girl was plenty capable of leading a pack of werewolves and werecreatures. No doubt in her mind. But it all came down to Hope believing in herself first and foremost. For now though, it was only a matter of waiting to see what Hope's decision's gonna be.

"Are you sure 'bout that?" Jed questioned with a quirk of his eyebrow, lips stretching into a smile as though he was hiding his biggest advantage yet. "I guess we'll see." Jed chuckled at her next words and when she told him that they were whipped, he didn't even try to deny it. "Exactly. I would never do this if I didn't know the food was gonna taste great, too." Jed shrugged his shoulders with a pleased little smile locked on his lips. "That, we are." Jed replied with a grin resting on his lips when Josie called them whipped.
It made him really happy to know that they wouldn't stand in the way of his happiness, especially if it was something he wanted to do. He wasn't making this decision on a whim because something like this was life-altering. Literally. So, of course, he took his time and thought about it thoroughly. Jed nodded his head with a gentle smile resting on his lips. He was going to talk to Hope and see what their options were and with how capable witches were, he'll be sure that she'd be able to find a spell or something that would make his goal possible. "Just one's more than enough." Jed said with a brief chuckle falling from his lips, his cheek tingling in the wake of the kiss left behind by Ben. When Josie assured him that Hope won't say no, he felt a huge weight lift off his shoulders. It made him feel a lot less anxious about the whole thing. "It's a huge responsibility, that's why I'll be giving her the option to back out from leading the pack." Jed said with a nod following. He can't expect her to be absolutely ready for everything and leading a pack wasn't something easy or else anyone would've done it. "Yeah. I'm not too concerned about that. If it doesn't work out, there's always a solution. Just gotta find it." Jed's shoulders lifted and dropped in a quick shrug. If they meet a dead-end, they'll find a work around. He was sure of it. Which explained why he wasn't all too concerned about these things. As long as Hope answered with a confirmation that she'll help him achieve his goal of becoming a hybrid, everything else can be managed one way or the other.
Jed's attention drifted to Ben, his lips stretching into a smile. It was sweet, the way that Ben cared about him so much. It made his heart flutter in the nicest way possible. "It's okay, I'm not scared, to be honest. I'm gonna have you guys around me and that's all I need to not feel afraid 'bout what happens after. You guys just look after each other while I'm gone. No crying, alright? I'll only be gone for a bit."

It was a little strange knowing that another of their children was going to become immortal. They’d already had Elena who was a vampire and then Ben’s father had taken the decision away from Josie and made her die with Hope’s blood in her system. Now Jed wanted to join them and become a hybrid but the truth was that one t least wasn’t unexpected. Ric and Jenna had already talked about the way they thought that things would end up going for Jed when he and Ben got together and this was something that they had both expected. It was clear just how in love Jed and Ben were and it was natural for them to not want to have to worry about time tearing them apart, especially considering that Ben was immortal. As far as they knew there wasn’t a way for him to become mortal but there was a way for Jed to become immortal so of course Jed was going to want to do it. Ric knew that if it was Jenna who was immortal then he would become a vampire to be with her in an instant but he was glad that Jed had decided to ask them about it first. Nodding as Jenna said that they would always support him and that they trusted him, Ric’s expression turned to one of amusement as he watched Jed and Josie. “You’re both as bad as each other,” he chuckled. They liked to wind each other up and had done ever since Jed had started feeling comfortable living with them. It was good to watch and Ric was glad that they were so comfortable around each other because it filled him with hope that they would be alright when he and Jenna weren’t around any longer. Josie was right when she said that Jed and Ben were whipped but Ric wasn’t so sure that was a bad thing. From what he had seen it was something that happened pretty naturally when you found the one and he was pretty sure that he was the same way with Jenna. As Jed said he was giving Hope the chance to back out if she wasn’t ready to become the Alpha of the school’s pack, Ric’s expression turned thoughtful for a moment. “Do you have a backup plan if she doesn’t want to do it?” he asked, unable to deny that he was curious. He knew just how important the pack was to Jed and he also knew that the school’s werecreatures were going to need a leader so he hoped that Jed had a fallback plan just in case. Ric knew that Jenna and Jed were right when they said that there would be another way to make this work if Hope wouldn’t agree to take Jed’s life and he gave Jenna’s hand a gentle squeeze. “We won’t let you get hurt. If Hope won’t do it then we’ll sort something out.” There were a lot of options available and he knew that they would figure something out of they had to but he still hoped that they wouldn’t need to worry about it. Jed had been the Alpha for such a long time and he had done an amazing job with the pack but it was time for him to figure out who he was without that and Ric knew that he wanted his son to have that chance. “We’ll look after each other until you’re back with us, don’t worry,” Ric nodded. It really was a relief to know that Jed’s family supported his decision because Ben knew that he wouldn’t have wanted to go through with it otherwise. He knew how long Jed had gone without having a family like this around him and there was no way that he was going to do anything to alienate them, nor would Ben ever expect him to. Ben had agreed to Jed becoming a hybrid after he had realised that his boyfriend was serious about it and had thought it through but it had always been subject to everyone else agreeing and even though that had made Ben nervous at first, not he realised that he shouldn’t have worried after all. Jed’s family was always going to want what was best for him and they could see that this was something that Jed wanted so of course they were going to agree. Ben could see how much that meant to Jed and it really did mean a lot to him as well. Now it was just Hope that they had to trust would agree, it was her blood that was going to be needed in order to make this all work but Ben had a feeling that she wouldn’t stop it from happening. She and Josie had the chance to stay together forever and he and Jed wanted the same so Ben knew that he just had to stay positive and believe that it was going to work out the way they wanted it to. Ben was amused as he watched Jed and Josie, he had seen them when they were like this before and he could see how much the two of them enjoyed winding each other up. That was something that he’d never had considering that he was an only child but he was glad that they had that kind of relationship. “I wouldn’t dare give you a horrible meal,” Ben chuckled, knowing that there was no way that he would want to let Jed down like that. As Josie called them whipped, Ben couldn’t help but laugh. “You’re right about that,” he grinned. There was a time when he might have tried to deny it now that he knew what the term meant but he knew that there wasn’t any reason to. The way he felt about Jed wasn’t a secret and he wasn’t ashamed of it either so he knew that there was no reason to hide it. “Exactly,” Ben nodded as Jed said that one trauma was bad enough. He knew that he would never forget watching Jed die like that and he had a feeling that Josie and Hope would never forget that day either. By the time they’d arrived Jed was already dead and Ben was grateful that they hadn’t seen what had happened to him but having something like that happen again was something that Ben knew he wanted to avoid. He and Jed had seen each other die before but he honestly hoped that this would be the last time for either of them. “There will be another way, we won’t let you get hurt,” Ben assured Jed gently, glad that Jenna agreed. This was such a big thing for Jed to do and the last thing Ben wanted was for his last memories as a werewolf to be painful. “I’m so glad you aren’t scared,” Ben admitted, relief flooding through him as he looked over at Jed. Ben really did worry about him and that was never going to change. “I don’t know about everyone else but I can’t promise there won’t be any tears,” Ben shrugged. He knew that he would do his best to hold it together before Jed died but after that he knew that it would all become real and even though his death would only be temporary, Ben knew that wasn’t going to make it any less painful being without him for that time. It was strange talking about how Jed was going to die and come back as a hybrid but Josie had a feeling that this was the way that her conversation with her family about becoming a heretic would have gone if Ben’s father hadn’t taken that chance away from her. It was good to know that her parents were so supportive of Jed’s decision and just one look at them was enough to make her see just how much this meant to Jed and Ben. She had always wondered how they would deal with the whole mortality issue in the end but now she had her answer. In a way it was good to know that she wasn’t the only member of the family who was willing to make that decision to be with the person they loved and it was comforting to know that she would always have Jed there. Even as a hybrid there were still ways in which Jed could die but it would be more difficult than it would be right now and she honestly hoped that nothing bad would happen to him after this. “You wouldn’t,” Josie said as Jed asked if she was sure. Hope knew more about her than pretty much anyone else and there were things that she had confided in her girlfriend because she hadn’t known how to talk about it with her family. There were other things that Jed knew that Hope perhaps didn’t, though, so she knew that she wanted to keep it that way if she could. As neither of them even tried to deny that they were whipped, Josie couldn’t help but laugh as she looked from Jed to Ben and back again. “Well, I never thought I would see the day,” she grinned. Jed had always seemed fine on his own but something had changed when he met Jed. Now it was like he was finally complete and she really was happy for him. Josie hadn’t actually seen Jed die but she had seen his body afterwards and she knew that she didn’t want to see anything like that happen to him again. She didn’t even want to think about what would have happened if Ben hadn’t been able to bring him back and the truth was that not a day went by when she didn’t feel glad that he had been able to bring her brother back. “It is. I know she’d make a great Alpha but I’m glad you’re going to give her the option,” Josie admitted. She believed that Hope would agree to make Jed a hybrid but when it came to taking over leading the pack she wasn’t sure what her girlfriend would want to do about that. Josie believed in her and knew that she would do a great job but she knew that Hope often lacked that confidence in herself and she didn’t always find it easy to get along with people so it really could go either way. “Mom and dad are right, we’ll find a way to make it painless if we have to,” she nodded, knowing that there was sure to be a spell buried in a book somewhere or a solution her dad knew that would save Jed from enduring any pain when the time came. Josie’s heart ached as Ben said he couldn’t promise that there wouldn’t be any tears. “Like dad said we’ll look out for each other but I think the best any of us can do is say we’ll try not to cry,” she said, hoping that would be good enough. being soft doesn’t make you fragile. it’s the brittle metals that break.

– don't be afraid to love, to be vulnerable –
Jenna had seen it for herself at the school. The witches were all very capable. They possessed a great deal of power that once harnessed, they'd be able to accomplish pretty much anything they set their mind on. So, of course, Jenna was confident in Hope's ability to find a way to make it so that Jed doesn't experience any pain. She can't even begin to imagine the amount of pain he must've gone through the first time he died. She would rather not let Jed experience that once more. They will find a way to go through with their plan without the risk of hurting Jed before he could transition into a whole new beginning of his life.
Jenna breathed out a soft chuckle, unsure whether she'd be able to hold back her tears. "I'll try not to." They'd already seen her cry so much just on the day of Jed moving out. So, for such a big occasion, she can't exactly promise that she won't cry. "But, we'll be with us each other and being together gives us strength." Jenna added with a gentle smile just to assure Jed that they were going to at least try their best to go through the couple of hours where Jed's under without shedding too many tears.

– I freed myself from words never said –
Jed's lips stretched into a grin. "Oh, but I would." He said with the same teasing tone. Jed already knew that Josie and Hope were pretty close but you know, Jed's ammunition was the fact that he lived with Jo. So he'll think of a way to tease her in front of Hope just as a lil payback. That was what he was planning on doing with MG too once he has someone in his life. MG loved teasing him, so it was only fair for him to do the same thing, no? It was just a matter of waiting. But thankfully, he didn't have to wait for Josie to find someone because she already had Hope in her life. "In my defense, she started first." Jed was quick to point fingers, his smile innocent as always. Jed's attention drifted to Ben with a gentle smile resting on his lips. "I know." He assured him. "Honestly, you and mom could enter a cooking competition. I'll be the judge so I can eat as many of your cooking as I want and pretend to know what I'm talking about." Jed said with a grin tugging at his lips.
When the assurance came that they'll find a way to make it painless, his lips stretched into a smile as he nodded his head a few times. He had no doubt in his mind about that, really. Truth be told, making it painless was for his family as much as it was for him. He just didn't want to leave behind a scarring memory.
"I was going to suggest it to my pack and see if they're okay with me still leading them." That was his backup plan, at least. As much as he wanted to put one of his pack members for the job or anyone else, it was too heavy to carry. He trusted Hope because she was already exhibiting all the right traits to be the Alpha of the pack.
Jed's lips stretched into a gentle smile as he nodded his head. He wanted Hope to have the choice to either lead or not. He knew it'd be really bad to just put her up for the job without giving the choice to back out of it. He would never do that to his friend. Jed smiled at Ben's words. He wasn't scared of the whole dying thing because he knew that what comes after would be one hundred percent worth it.
"Oh, boy." Jed trailed off with a brief chuckle when it became clear to him that the chances of them crying were very high. "I mean, thank you guys for trying." As much as he wanted to tell them not to cry, he knew it'd be impossible for them to hold back the tears especially once they realize that he was gone. So he definitely won't hold it against them.

“Now that’s just mean,” Josie grumbled although Ben could hear the joking tone in her voice. During the whole time he had been in Mystic Falls Jed and Josie had always bickered and teased each other like this but it was always in good fun and that was what made it amusing to watch. Ben had grown up as an only child so he had never known what it was like to have a sibling but watching the two of them together he was glad that they would be able to stick together. He knew that it wasn’t going to be the same without the rest of the family around but they would at least have each other and he didn’t doubt that the squad would stick together as well. They had already faced so much together and they were all immortal so Ben knew that it would be fine. “I did not, it was your fault for trying to steal the cherry as always,” Josie teased as Jed tried to deflect the blame onto her, causing Ben to laugh in amusement. “Ric’s right, you are both as bad as each other. I’m not sure how I’ll cope with you both,” he chuckled. He was only joking of course, he liked the way the banter always passed back and forth between them but he couldn’t resist teasing them nonetheless instead. “I’m not sure that’s such a good idea, Jenna would beat me hands down,” he grinned as Jed suggested a cooking competition. Ben knew that he would get a lot more days like this with Jed and Josie considering that they were mortal but the rest of the family weren’t and Ben knew to make the most of every moment. He knew that Jed becoming a hybrid was a big step but it was one that Jed wanted to take and that was enough to make Ben know that he was going to support him. Whether Hope agreed to be the one to take his life or not Ben knew that they would find a way to make it painless. Ben knew that Jed had a backup plan when it came to the pack if Hope decided not to become their Alpha but he looked over at Ric to gauge his reaction when Jed spoke and Ben saw him nod. “That sounds like a good idea, I’m sure they would be,” Ric nodded. “You really have done a great job with them,” he added and that was enough to make a smile touch Ben’s lips. “It’s true, you have,” he said as he gave Jed’s hand a gentle squeeze. “I hope you get the break from being the Alpha that you want though,” Ben added. Jed had been the Alpha for such a long time now and Ben knew that he wanted a break from it all so he honestly hoped that his boyfriend would get that chance. Being vulnerable around others wasn’t something that Ben was very good at but the Saltzmans were family so he had known that he could be honest in front of them. He knew that he would do his best to stay strong for Jed when the time came but he honestly wasn’t sure if he would be able to hold it together the whole time so he was glad that the others seemed to be thinking the same thing. “It’s the least we can do for you,” Ben said gently as Jed thanked them for saying that they would try not to cry. “It’s starting to get late. Do you want to stay for a bit longer or shall we get going?” Ben asked, not sure what Jed wanted to do. JENNA SALTZMAN & JED SALTZMAN

– I freed myself from words never said –
Jed's grin was still visible on his lips as his shoulders lifted and dropped in a quick shrug. "No hard feelings, sis." He added with an innocent smile resting on his lips. "Need I remind you that its your duty as my sister to cover for me?" Jed shook his head, feigning disappointment. A dramatic gasp soon left Jed's lips at Ben's words. "Can't believe you'd say something like that to me. I'm hurt." He even placed his hand on his heart as if he couldn't believe that Ben would say something like that to him. Jenna let out a chuckle at Ben's words when he said that she'd beat him hands down. "That, I would." Jenna teased with a grin resting on her lips.
He knew it would definitely be awkward for him to lead again after becoming a hybrid because he wouldn't have his Alpha status anymore and he won't be just a werewolf, but a vampire too. With the natural hostility between vampires and werewolves or werecreatures, he didn't want to make things difficult for them. In a way, Hope's situation was a bit similar to him becoming a hybrid, she won't be just a werewolf, but in her case, she might actually be able to absorb his status as an Alpha which would undoubtedly make her the leader of the pack. "Thanks, guys." Jed replied with a gentle smile at their reassurance. He wasn't always the best Alpha, especially in the beginning but he came around and started acting like an Alpha would. It was a slow shift, but it happened in the end. Jed's attention drifted back to Ben before his lips stretched into a faint smile. "Me too. But, if it comes to me stepping back in as the leader of the pack, then I'll do it. I can't make my decision to step back at the expanse of my pack. I'll only do it once I'm certain they're in safe hands." The decision itself felt pretty selfish and he would rather not make his pack feel abandoned or lost. So, of course, if the need rose, he'll happily step back in once he has their permission to do so.
Jed's expression softened before he nodded his head. As much as he disliked the thought of his family crying because of him, he knew that it can't be helped. Jed's attention drifted to the clock shortly after before he released a soft 'oh', he barely even noticed the time. "Yeah, let's get going." Jed replied with a nod following. "Awww, but I wanted you boys to stay for a bit longer." Jenna voiced her disappointment with a soft sigh falling from her lips. "Don't worry, mom, we'll visit again. I promise." Jed assured her as he pushed up from where he was sitting, placing his plate back on the coffee table. "Okay, we'll see you guys soon, yeah?" Jed released Ben's hand in favor of hugging his family individually as a goodbye before he stepped back. "We'll see you boys soon. Take care, sweethearts." Jenna said with a gentle smile resting on her lips. "We will. Thank you. If you guys need anything, call, okay?" Jed's lips stretched into a gentle smile before he turned to Ben. "Let's go home," with that being said, Jed reached for Ben's hand again and set out for the door so they could head on home.
