– don't be afraid to love, to be vulnerable –
"I can't believe that my boys are here." Jenna beamed as she brought dessert in the form of cheesecake. Homemade, of course. Jed and Ben made sure to visit every now and then and Jenna visited alongside Alaric when their schedule allowed it. But seeing them still made her really happy each time. It meant that she can pamper them with food and desserts. "Hope you still have room for dessert. I know I kind of went overboard with the food, but as always whenever you boys visit, I wanna make sure you're well-fed." Jenna admitted with a grin resting on her lips as she placed the cheesecake down and took it upon herself to cut it into appropriately sized slices, gently slapping Jed's hand when he tried to take one of the cherries on top. With the way it happened so naturally, one could easily assume that Jed had attempted this many times in the past. With four plates filled with slices of cheesecake, she began to hand them out. Of course, she started with Alaric first. 'Here you go, my love." The second person was Ben. "Here you go, sweetheart." And then it was Jed's turn. "Here you go, darling." And now that she was done, she grabbed her own plate and sat down, letting the plate rest on her lap.
"I made some food for you guys to take with you, yeah? You can put it in the fridge and reheat it once you feel like eating it, okay?" Jenna said with a gentle smile resting on her lips. "Just remind me on the way out because chances are, I'm gonna forget." A chuckle fell from Jenna's lips afterwards.
Jenna used the fork to cut a small piece and tried it out, humming in delight. It wasn't perfect, but it was tasty and that's all that mattered, right? "How are you boys doing? Everything going well, I hope?"

– I freed myself from words never said –
Jed had a plan in mind. He'd visit his parents with Ben and once they've sat down, he'd bring up the whole Hybrid thing to see their reactions and to earn their blessings (hopefully) so that he could have the green light to talk to Hope. Honestly, Jed's plan was pretty flawed because he was depending a lot on someone who might actually tell him no. Not because she was cruel or anything like that, but because she knew better than most what being a hybrid can do to you. But, he was counting on the fact that Hope was an understanding person and once he hears his reasoning, she'll say yes. He hoped the same with his parents. But there was only one way of knowing for sure, right?
His plan met the first hiccup when shortly after they'd sat down to catch their breaths and talk, his mom soon got up so that she could bring the remaining plates and utensils to the dining table where she had pretty much prepared a feast that was big enough to satisfy the hunger of a thousand men. So, naturally, he decided to wait until they're done with the food. He ate really well, as always, and once they were done eating, his second hiccup came in the form of his mom putting away everything and washing the dishes. He waited and saw that once she was done, she was actually coming their way with something in her hand.
Dessert.
Oh, boy.
Third hiccup locked in sight.
"The food was great, mom, thank you. You know I can't say no to dessert." Jed said with a grin locked on his lips. Jed's eyes were locked on the cheesecake and took advantage of the fact that his mom was busy putting the slices on their own respective plates to reach out to try and pluck the cherry only for his hand to be slapped away. "Ow," he dramatically rubbed his hand when the slap didn't even hurt. She pretty much knew all of his tactics by now, huh? Jed grumbled and leaned back, giving up on his mission to pluck the cherry and was pretty happy when he saw that his slice had the cherry he'd tried to steal. Good things come to those who wait, right? "Thank you."
Ah, speaking of which.
Jed opened his mouth to bring up the subject only for him to be met with the fourth hiccup when his mom initiated a conversation. "Oh, you didn't have to, mom. Do you even take any breaks?" Jed didn't want her to exhaust herself. She was already doing so much at work, and at home too. Jenna waved off his concern and assured him that she was doing just fine. If anything, she felt like she had a lot of free time on her hands. "Yeah, of course." Jed assured. He tucked away the reminder for later.
Jed's lips parted again to say something only for the fifth hiccup to reappear out of thin air in the form of his mom asking how they were doing. The problem wasn't the interruptions, he really appreciated his mom for caring so much about them and their well-being, it was that each interruption made his confidence shrink a bit. He needed to bring the subject up, but boy was it difficult. "Pretty good, yeah. Ben's been taking such good care of me." Jed said with a gentle smile resting on his lips as he looked over at Ben.

“You’re going to embarrass them, babe,” Ric said, shaking his head in amusement as Jenna said that she couldn’t believe her boys were there. It was always great to have Jed and Ben come over for dinner and there were times when they stopped by to see the boys as well so it wasn’t like they never saw them but it definitely wasn’t the same as having the two of them living under their roof. Before they got their own place they had split their time between the house and the Salvatore School so they had seen more of them back then but now Ric knew to just take the time with them when they could get it. It had taken Jed a while to settle in when they first took him in but he had become a part of the family and as far as he and Jenna were concerned, Jed was their son. It had taken them a long time to adopt him but in the end it had all worked out and now it included Ben as well and Ric knew that he wouldn’t have it any other way. Their family might look a little unusual from anyone looking from the outside in but it was perfect as far as Ric was concerned especially since he had never thought that he would ever get this chance after Isobel left. Ric couldn’t help but laugh as Jed tried to pinch the cherry and Jenna slapped his hand away, it was something that seemed to happen every time and Jed never seemed to learn his lesson. “Thanks love,” Ric said, offering Jenna a smile as she handed him the cheesecake first. Ben and Jed were next to receive theirs followed by Josie and Ric took a bite as Jenna said that she’d made some food for the boys to take with them. Ric knew that she missed having them at home just as much as he did but he understood that they’d needed to have their own space and he really was happy for them. That didn’t stop either of them from wanting to look after them, though, and he was pretty sure that it never would. “We’ve got a few other things for you to take with you as well,” he said, knowing that between them they’d put together a bit of a care package for the two of them. Jed was old enough to look after himself and he had Ben as well but it would ease the worry that he and Jenna felt and Ric knew that that wasn’t a bad thing. As both boys said things were going well, Ric nodded. “There’s nothing like living with the person you love, we’re glad it’s going well for the two of you,” he said sincerely before looking over at them in surprise as Ben said there was something they wanted to talk to them about. “We’re all ears,” he promised as he took a sip of his drink. The first time Ben visited the Saltzman house he was nervous because he hadn’t known if they were going to like him being with Jed but now he was nervous for a completely different reason. Jed had decided that he wanted to become a hybrid and after they’d talked about it Ben had realised that he really had thought it through and that it was what he wanted. He knew that there were a few reasons for that decision, Jed wanted to be stronger so that he could protect the people he cared about and he also wanted to make sure that time wouldn’t separate the two of them since right now Jed was mortal and Ben wasn’t. Ben would have stayed with Jed for his whole life regardless but he couldn’t deny that the thought of having Jed with him forever was something that he wanted. Ben had lost so many people that he had known over the years and even though the amount that he had truly cared about hadn’t been that many he still knew what it was like to lose people he loved and he didn’t want to go through that with Jed if he could help it so he really hoped that Jed’s parents would give their blessing. “We promised you’d still see us,” Ben grinned as Jenna said she couldn’t believe they were there. She always made sure to include him and that meant the world to Ben. He’d had his mother while he was growing up and after she’d died he’d had Ashur and his father but that was different. He had never known what a real family was like and that was something that he had always wanted. He had seen the way that Jed talked about his family and it was clear that he loved them so Ben was glad that he got to be a part of it. This wasn’t a normal family dinner though and Ben could see that Jed had already tried to bring it up a few times only to end up being interrupted. He knew that Jenna meant well and it was clear just how happy she was to have them there and he hoped that wouldn’t change when they found out what it was that they wanted to talk to them about. For now it was a case of finding the right time and so far this wasn’t it. “We appreciate it, thank you,” Ben said sincerely as Jenna said that she wanted to keep them well-fed when they visited. He knew how much Ric and Jenna worried about Jed but he also knew that they worried about him as well and Ben was grateful to them for that. Ben watched in amusement as Jed reached for the cherry only to have Jenna slap his hand away. “Why do I get the feeling that’s not the first time you’ve tried that?” he teased his boyfriend, an amused smile forming on his face as he looked over at him. It wasn’t long before Jenna was handing them their plates and Ben took his from her. “Thanks, it looks great,” he admitted. He was surprised when Jenna said that she had some food for them to take with them and Ric said that there were some other things for them to take with them as well and his expression softened. “Jed’s right, you really didn’t have to but thank you,” he said gently. They always seemed to go out of their way to look out for them and it really did mean a lot. Ben could see the way that Jed opened his mouth to speak but Jenna beat him to it and his heart sank. He knew how nervous Jed was about this and delaying it had to be making it worse. As Jed said Ben was taking such good care of him, Ben felt a smile touch his lips. “Things are going really well, it’s great living together. We take care of each other,” he corrected, bringing his hand up and letting it rest on Jed’s leg as with his free hand he took a bite of his cheesecake. “There’s actually something we wanted to talk to you about,” he said, giving Jed’s leg a reassuring squeeze, hoping that he would take the chance to ask them now before something else stopped him. Josie loved it every time Jed and Ben came over for dinner. She got to see them at school and when they were with their friends but she didn’t get to see them as much as she used to before they got their own place and she couldn’t deny that she missed seeing them as much as she used to. She would be lying if she said that the fact that Jed had moved out hadn’t started her thinking about moving out with Hope but it wasn’t something that they had talked about yet so she wasn’t sure when it would happen for them. The truth was that right now she was happy living at home, though. Her life had changed the day Ben’s father had attacked them and she was still getting to grips with being a heretic so it was good to be able to do that around her family. It was a little strange knowing that for the first time in their lives she and Lizzie were different, they were twins and their personalities were completely different but growing up they had both known that they were siphoners and Josie had grown used to living in her sister’s shadow. Lizzie’s struggles had put her in the spotlight a lot of the time and Josie had come to accept that. After becoming a heretic it had been her turn to lean on her parents, though, and the fact that they had been there for her as much as they had been and the fact that they still loved her really did mean the world to her. One thing she had come to realise through all of this was that her parents would love them all no matter what happened. It saddened her to know that her parents and siblings would only be able to live a mortal life aside from Elena but that just made her want to cherish the time she had with them that much more. That was why these family dinners were so important for her even though Lizzie and the others weren’t there. It was just her, her parents, Jed and Ben but it was still nice and she rolled her eyes in amusement as Jed tried to steal a cherry. “That’s because he tries it every time. You’ll get used to it,” Josie grinned as Ben said he got the feeling that wasn’t the first time that Jed had tried it. It was something that she had grown used to but Ben hadn’t just yet although she wouldn’t be surprised if it didn’t take him long to. “This is delicious, thanks mom,” she admitted as she took a bite of her cheesecake. As Ben said there was something that they wanted to talk to them about, she couldn’t deny that her interest was piqued. “What is it?” she asked, unable to keep the curiosity out of her voice. Jenna felt a gentle smile form on her lips as she looked at her half-complete family. They were only missing a few members from having a full house filled with people that Jenna enjoyed spending time with. Each and every single person in the house right now already meant the world to her. "That you did." Jenna agreed with the same smile on her lips. She never expected them to break their promise to come and visit because they never would break their promise. Jenna was confident about that. Jenna made sure to put a slice of cheesecake on Josie's plate as well, sending her a gentle smile. "Here you go, my baby." Jenna offered and then sat down shortly after putting her own slice on her plate. Jenna nodded her head in agreement with Alaric because they had a whole package for the two of them. Maybe they were being too dotting on the boys but it all came from a good place and while they were both completely capable of taking care of themselves, that didn't mean Jenna wasn't going to dot on them regardless.
Jenna felt a gentle smile form on her lips at the compliments hailing in about the cheesecake. "Thank you. I'm glad you guys like it." Jenna spoke in the same gentle tone. She pointed at Josie in agreement when she told Ben that he had done the same 'dirty trick' one too many times. "Nothing's safe when Jed's around. I'd be making fries for all of us, he'd come in and pretend to help me then I'd realize a few moments later that most of the fries are gone." Jenna recalled with a chuckle falling from her lips. Jenna listened, feeling her heart leap from happiness. She was beyond glad that things were going well with them. They deserved it and more. "I'm really glad to hear that." Jenna admitted in a soft voice.
Though when Ben mentioned that there was something they wanted to talk to them about, her expression shifted into one of curiosity. "Of course, my boys. Anything." Jenna nodded her head, her eyes traveling between the boys with the same curious expression still locked on her face.

Jed's eyes widened slightly when he heard his dad mention that they a few other things for them to take, too. "You guys really didn't have to." Jed's shoulders sagged in defeat because he knew there was no use saying any of that. They were still going to pamper them with care packages, packed food, and so on. "Thank you." Jed added a moment later, deciding to let go of the whole 'you shouldn't have' and the 'you didn't need to' because they were going to keep doing it regardless. It was their love language. How they showed him that they cared about him and of course, it showcased that they supported him with his decision to move into a place of his own with Ben. So, he was definitely thankful. He just didn't want them to exhaust themselves especially with their already hectic work schedules. It can't be easy running a whole school of supernatural kids.
Jed moved his hand back, adapting a feigned hurt look as he rubbed the back of his hand. His attention drifted to Ben at his comment and it wasn't long before Josie was joining in, exposing him right then and there. She was absolutely right, though. So he couldn't exactly pretend as though Josie was wrong. His lips parted to say something only for his mom to join in as well. He couldn't help the chuckle that fell from his lips. "Wow, you guys. Really exposing me out here." Jed said in the midst of his laughter, his grin remaining on his lips even long after his laughter had faded.
"It's heavenly, honestly." He gestured to the cheesecake, enjoying the taste of it with such delight. It wasn't long before his mom was asking about how things were and he answered, followed shortly by Ben, his words making a gentle smile rest on his lips. His attention drifted over to his dad, his comment making him nod his head. "It's wonderful." Jed was really happy about their new living arrangement. It allowed them to spend nearly the entire day together if they weren't busy doing their own thing. Jed moved his free hand to let it rest on top of Ben's which was on his leg. Ben must've sensed that each time Jed had tried to talk to his parents and Josie about the whole hybrid thing, he was interrupted. Not that he harbored any ill feelings for the interruptions. Oh he didn't mind in the slightest. He was just worried that he was going to lose his nerve. But with Ben letting them know that there was something that they wanted to talk to them about, their attention were on them and the chances of him being interrupted were slim to none now. Oh, boy. It seemed like it was finally time to let the cat out of the bag, huh?
Jed cleared his throat as he leaned forward to place his plate down on the coffee table and leaned back slightly. "Okay, so." Jed began. "I guess I should just say it outright." He didn't want to tip toe around the subject or stress them out by guessing what Jed wanted to talk about. "We wanted to talk to you guys about the possibility of me becoming a hybrid." Jed took a quick pause. "I've been thinking about it for a long time now. Probably for months, if I'm being honest. I only started pursuing the idea seriously a few days ago when I talked to Ben about it to see what he thinks." Jed revealed with a quick nod of his head following. "I have his blessing, but of course I can't do that without asking for your blessings too. You guys mean so much to me." Jed licked his bottom lip before he continued once more.
"So, uh, yeah... That's what we wanted to talk to you guys about. What do you think?"

Ric had thought that he had lost his chance at having a family when Isobel left. He hadn’t thought that he would settle down with anyone again after that, hunting had become his life for a while and he had thought that wasn’t going to change but then he had found his way to Mystic Falls and somewhere along the line he had started letting people in again. He had started helping Jeremy, he had befriended the Salvatores and he had fallen for Jenna. Slowly but surely he had started to realise that not all supernaturals were bad and now his family was bigger than he had ever thought that it would be. They had Jenna’s niece and nephew to think about, Ric’s two kids from his relationship with his high school girlfriend, three kids of their own and now Ben and Hope who were family as well. Things had definitely changed a lot but he knew that he wouldn’t have it any other way. He and Jenna were truly lucky to have built the family and the life that they had together and Ric knew that they both wanted to hold on to that. Of course there were some things that they could only support the kids through like Josie becoming a heretic and Jed moving out but moments like this definitely made it easier. He and Jenna had put together a package for the boys to take with them and he felt a half smile tug at the corner of his mouth as neither of them tried to resist taking it. He knew that they didn’t have to do it but they wanted to and Ric knew that wasn’t going to change. It would be the same when Josie and Lizzie moved out but he honestly hoped that wouldn’t be for a while yet. Ric couldn’t help but laugh again as Josie dropped Jed in it and Jenna didn’t hesitate in joining in. He knew that chances were that Ben would have figured it out for himself in time anyway but the two of them were more than happy to let him know what Jed was like. “He’s a growing boy, he likes his food,” Ric chuckled before grinning as Jed said they were exposing him. “Don’t look at me, this is all your mom and sister,” he laughed. “I like how you didn’t try and deny it though,” he added, unable to resist teasing his son since he knew what Jed was like just as much as they did. Taking another bite of his dessert, Ric set the plate down on the table once he was done before lifting his drink to his lips and taking a sip. He really was glad that things were going so well for the boys and he could see that Jenna was too, he just hoped that Josie wouldn’t go getting any ideas from Jed just yet. Looking up as Ben said that there was something they wanted to talk to them about, Ric’s breath caught in his throat as Jed revealed what it was and he shared a look with Jenna. They had both known that this day was going to come sooner or later, he just hadn’t expected it to come quite so soon. As Jed finished speaking, Ric looked over at him and Ben. “I’ll be honest with you and say your mom and I knew this would come up at some point. We know how much you love each other and Ben is immortal so of course you’ll be thinking about the future,” he said, reaching for Jenna’s hands and clasping it in his own as his eyes searching his son’s for a moment. “You’re sure this is what you want?”JENNA SALTZMAN & JED SALTZMAN

Ben wished he could say that he was surprised when Ric said that they had more for them to take with them than just food but he really wasn’t. Even though Jed wasn’t living under their roof any longer they still wanted to take care of him and Ben really couldn’t blame them for that. They always included him in that as well, they did their best to look after him too and the truth was that they honestly felt like parents to him as well. He knew that was crazy considering that he was so much older than them but the truth was that being around them and seeing how they were with Jed and Josie was enough to make him realise just how much he had missed it. He had been on his own for such a long time but this was a real family and he knew that he was lucky to be included in it. Telling them that they didn’t need to give them anything to take with them would be pointless and Ben could see that Jed knew it too. It was their way of showing that they cared and it wasn’t a bad thing so Ben knew that it was best to just go along with it. He knew that it was a big thing for Jed to have moved out of the family home but they really were looking after each other and Ben knew that that was as it should be. They’d always had each other’s back and now things were different. They got to spend as much time together as they wanted to and Ben knew that he wouldn’t want to go back to the way things used to be now. He had lived on his own for such a long time and even at the school he’d had his own dorm room. Before they’d split their time between the Saltzman residence and the dorms and it had given them a taste of what living together would be like but it really didn’t even come close to the real thing. “Everything you make tastes amazing, Jenna,” Ben said, a smile touching his lips as he looked over at her. He had yet to find something she had made that he didn’t like and he had a feeling that wasn’t going to happen. As Josie spoke followed quickly by Jenna, Ben couldn’t help but laugh. “I’ll have to remember that, a couple of times I thought I was imaging things missing,” he chuckled as he squeezed Jed’s leg gently. It wasn’t a bad thing, they would just have to make sure that there was always plenty of food in the house. Looking over at Ric and Jenna as Jenna said she was happy to hear that things were going well and Ric said there was nothing like living with someone you loved, Ben felt a smile touch his lips as Jed said it was wonderful. “It really is,” he agreed. Ben had known that living together would be great but he had never realised that it would be as good as it actually was. “We loved spending time here with you guys but it’s great to have our own space.”For a moment Ben wondered if he perhaps should have stayed quiet about the fact that there was something that they wanted to talk to him about but he knew how nervous Jed was and the last thing he wanted was for Jed to feel like there was never going to be a good time to talk to them about it. If Jed changed his mind and decided that he wanted to stay a werewolf then Ben knew that he would understand but Jed had seemed like his mind was made up when they’d talked about it so talking to his family was something that they were going to have to do. Finally the truth was out there and Ben’s expression was full of love as he turned to look at Jed once he had finished speaking. “We talked it over for a while. Jed really has thought this through and it’s what he wants. I’d become mortal if I could so time wouldn’t be an issue for us but I can’t. We both want this so we hope we’ll have your blessing.”JENNA SALTZMAN & JED SALTZMAN

It was a little strange having dinner without Lizzie around but she had known when they were going to be eating and had other plans so Josie knew that it was just one of those things. Truth be told she wasn’t always too sure what to say to her sister these days, she could talk to her parents about being a heretic and she had her friends around her as well but out of the two of them the focus had always been on Lizzie and that was a hard habit to break. Josie wasn’t entirely sure how to be vulnerable around her sister and now they were different species it made things even worse. From the day they were born they had both been siphoners but now Josie was something more than that. She knew that she would have made the decision in order to be with Hope after she triggered her vampire side anyway but she had thought that time was on their side. As it was, Ben’s father had taken that decision away from both of them but Josie kept on reminding herself that the outcome was still the same. She and Hope were together and they would get to stay that way without having to worry about time tearing them apart and Josie knew that that was what she wanted. One thing she did regret was the fact that so many of her family were mortal. Elena was the only one who was a vampire and would remain frozen in time the same way that Josie now was and she would be lying if she said that she didn’t hate the idea of having to say goodbye to so many of her loved ones one day but it made her more determined than ever to enjoy the time she had with them while she could. “Thanks mom,” Josie said, offering her mom a smile as she handed her a plate with cheesecake on it. She really did love her mom’s cooking and she always went all out on desserts even if they didn’t always come out quite the way she wanted them to. Just the fact that her mom still called her “baby” even after she had become a heretic was enough to make Josie’s heart leap. She really did love her family and she was so glad that they supported her even after everything had changed. As her mom explained what Jed was like with fries and Ben then spoke up, Josie couldn’t help but laugh. “You definitely wouldn’t have been imagining it. You’ll get used to his quirks,” she grinned, nudging her brother’s arm playfully. Normally Jed was to blame whenever there was food missing in the house but he might change his ways now he and Ben were living together, she wasn’t sure. It was strange not having him living at home with them any longer but she really was happy for him and Ben. She knew that what the two of them had was special and she was so glad that they had found each other. She couldn’t deny that she was interested when Ben said there was something that they wanted to talk to them about and as Jed revealed what it was, Josie’s eyes went wide. “You want to become a hybrid?” she asked certain that she must have misheard him. As it slowly began to sink in, however, a smile touched her lips. “My answer would be yes. I’ve seen how you are together and I can’t deny that I love the idea of you sticking around.” Truth be told she wished that her whole family could do that but Josie knew that was selfish of her. – don't be afraid to love, to be vulnerable –
"Thank you, sweetheart." Jenna thanked Ben for his compliment, her smile visible on her lips. "He's a sneaky boy, that one." There was still fondness visible in the tone of her voice as she spoke of Jed's tendency to let his hand wander over to the food. "Even though it was a difficult thing to do, letting you go, but I knew it was going to be the right thing to do." And she wasn't proven wrong because before her eyes are two men helplessly in love with one another. She couldn't stand in the way of their happiness. Honestly, Jenna had a feeling that the whole conversation about becoming a hybrid was coming. She'd talked about it with Alaric and they were both okay with it. They knew that if Jed chose to become a hybrid, they'd support him wholeheartedly and it seemed like talking about it had been the right thing to do.
Jenna's lips stretched into a gentle smile as she listened to Alaric, Ben and then Josie. She nodded her head in agreement with each one of them. "Your dad's right. We both talked about it and we knew that if you ever chose to become a hybrid we'd support you wholeheartedly. You and Ben have a great thing going on and we know you wouldn't make this decision recklessly, so we trust you on that front. You have my blessing if you're sure that this is what you want." Jenna said with a nod of her head following, her smile still present on her lips. "And you could also keep an eye on your sister when we can't." Jenna added a moment later, her eyes relaxing on her daughter with the same smile still present on her lips. "Have you decided when you want to go through with this?"

– I freed myself from words never said –
"See? Dad gets me." Jed spoke with a grin tugging at his lips. "I'll have you guys know that I can control myself when I want to." Jed pointed out with a proud little smile on his lips. "I just... choose not to." He added with a chuckle falling from his lips. "Honestly, I couldn't see the point of doing it." Jed said with yet another chuckle following when his dad pointed out that he hadn't tried to deny it. He let out a soft gasp at Ben's next words. "You noticed? I thought I was being sneaky. Damn." Jed shook his head, feigning disappointment. "Just gotta try harder next time."
To say that he was anxious would be an understatement, but he was glad that he had at least managed to bring up his desire to become a hybrid to his family. He watched their reactions and what he got in response made his shoulders sag in relief, feeling beyond grateful that they were choosing to support him with this. "It is what I want." Jed assured them with a gentle smile on his lips. "Thank you. Really. For supporting me." Jed added a moment later, his gratitude visible in the tone of his voice.
"Like Ben said, I've thought this through. I know that being a hybrid won't be easy, but that's a price I'm willing to pay. I'm surrounded by people who are more than capable of protecting themselves, including you and mom, but I still want to be stronger to protect them. Everyone in my life right now means the world to me and of course I want to protect each and every single one of them." Jed nodded his head with a gentle smile resting on his lips. "Again, thank you guys, for choosing to support us with this. You won't regret it." Jed promised with the same smile still present. 'And of course I'll keep an eye on Jo. I'd never let anything bad happen to her."
"Well, I'm not too sure if this is too soon for you guys, but uh, I was planning on talking to Hope after getting your blessings and if I get her blessing too, I was gonna go through it sometime during the weekend." Jed revealed with a nod of his head following. "I have no idea how Hope's gonna react to my request so I know it's not wise to get my hopes up just in case, but if she agrees, then there's really nothing holding us back from going through with this." Jed added, his shoulders lifting and dropping in a quick shrug, his hand still holding onto Ben's.
"I don't know if the request is too much, but if you guys would like, you can be there with us. When it happens. That way, when I wake up, I'd be surrounded by people I care about the most." Jed proposed, his lips stretching into a gentle smile. "No pressure, though. Really. If you'd rather not, I'd completely understand that."

“Of course I do, I know you too well son,” Ric chuckled. He knew exactly what Jed was like, it had taken him a while to start coming out of his shell and feel comfortable around them but as time went on he had settled in and Ric knew that that was just as it should be. Ever since then he’d had no problem raiding the cupboards whenever he felt hungry and it was strange not going to the cupboard to find that it was empty any longer. Truth be told he missed having Jed at home but he could see how happy he was so Ric knew that they had made the right decision not arguing when he’d said about moving out. Sooner or later all of the kids would be sure to move out but Ric knew that he wanted them to stay at home for as long as possible. As Jed said he could control himself when he wanted to he just chose not to, Ric rolled his eyes playfully. He wasn’t at all surprised that Jed was doing the same thing now he and Ben were living together but Ben didn’t seem to mind and Ric knew that he wouldn’t be surprised if Ben had picked up on a few of Jed’s tricks already as well. “That’s right. We still miss you around here but we know you’re where you’re meant to be,” Ric said, a smile touching his lips as he looked over at Jed and Ben. He knew that they were meant to be together and it was something that he and Jenna had talked about on more than a few occasions so Ric knew that they were both on the same page about that. That was why it wasn’t a surprise when Jed brought up the fact that he wanted to become a hybrid. Ric couldn’t deny that it saddened him a little to know that Elena and Josie wouldn’t be able to have kids of their own and now Jed wouldn’t be able to but there were other ways of becoming a parent and one thing he had learned from running the Salvatore School was that there were a lot of kids out there who needed good homes so he knew that they would figure it out if that was what they decided they wanted. As Jed confirmed that it was what he wanted, Ric found himself nodding. “Then you have our complete support. We’ll help you through this in any way we can,” Ric assured him gently. “We know the two of you are meant to be together so we’re not going to stand in your way and it will be a relief knowing you’ll be able to look out for Josie.” He and Jenna weren’t going to be around forever but Josie was immortal and soon Jed would be as well so it was comforting to know that the two of them would be able to look out for each other. As Jed thanked them, Ric shook his head. “You never need to thank us. You’re our son and we love and support you no matter what,” Ric promised him. The fact that Jed wanted to become a hybrid didn’t change that, he was always going to be their son and they were always going to be there for him. Ric hadn’t expected it to happen quite so quickly but he nodded as Jed said that he wanted to go through with it that weekend if Hope agreed. “It’s not too soon. This isn’t about us, it’s about you and if you want to go through with it this weekend then you have our support,” Ric said as he gave Jenna’s hand a gentle squeeze. They really had been expecting this conversation for a long time and Ric knew that there wasn’t any reason why Jed should wait if he wanted to go through with it sooner rather than later. As Jed said that if they wanted to then they could be there with him when he woke up, Ric felt a smile touch his lips. “Try and stop us, we’ll be there,” he assured him. JENNA SALTZMAN & JED SALTZMAN

“You’re welcome,” Ben said, a smile touching his lips as Jenna thanked him. It was true, she really was an amazing cook and the whole family knew it. They were lucky to have her looking out for them and Ben felt fortunate to be included in that as well. He had found the kind of life that he had always wanted in Mystic Falls and it was all thanks to Jed. He knew that what they were going to talk to his parents about was a big deal, a lot of people probably wouldn’t have even considered it but Jed had thought about it long and hard and in the end he had realised that it was what he wanted to do. Becoming a hybrid meant that they would have the chance to be together without time tearing them apart one day and considering just how many people Ben had lost over the years, there was a selfish part of him that wanted to make sure that it wasn’t going to be a factor for them. He had wanted to make sure that Jed had really thought it through before agreeing but it was clear to Ben that he had done and he hoped that it would be clear to Jed’s family as well. “So I’m learning,” Ben chuckled as Jenna said that Jed was a sneaky boy. It wasn’t a bad thing as far as he was concerned, Jed knew what he wanted and wasn’t afraid to go for it and that was something that Ben admired. “Control is overrated,” Ben grinned as Jed said he could control himself but chose not to. As Jed said he couldn’t see the point of trying to deny what they’d said about him, Ben couldn’t help but laugh. “Of course I noticed but I don’t mind,” he chuckled. “I think it’s quite cute actually.” He really did know what Jed was like and knowing that he was happy to do the same thing around his family was enough to let Ben realise that Jed felt at home with him as well and that was never going to be a bad thing. “We both appreciate that,” Ben admitted as Jenna said that letting Jed go was the right thing to do. Jed’s family was still a part of his life and that was just as it should be but Ben couldn’t deny that he loved the fact that they had their own place now. It meant that they were able to live their lives together the way they wanted to and he knew that he wouldn’t have it any other way. Ben knew how nervous Jed was about telling his parents that he wanted to become a hybrid and that in turn had made Ben nervous but neither of them seemed surprised by it and Ben realised that he should have known that they would have seen this coming. They knew Jed so well and he always did what was right by those around him so Ben knew that this wasn’t going to be any different. Hearing that they both wanted to support Jed and that Josie did as well was enough to bring a smile to Ben’s face. He knew that the family meant the world to Jed and he was so glad that they had all given their blessing. As Jed promised to keep an eye on Jo, Ben squeezed his hand gently. “We both will. We’ll be there for Josie and Hope,” he assured them. “Your support really does mean the world. We couldn’t do this without it.” Ben knew that Jed hadn’t wanted to defy his parents if they hadn’t chosen to support his decision and Ben hadn’t either so he really was grateful that they had chosen to give their support. Ben knew that they had already thrown a lot at Jed’s family but as Jenna asked when Jed wanted to go through with it, Ben knew that it was time to drop the next bombshell. It might seem like it was all happening a bit quickly but it was what Jed wanted and Ben knew that he was going to be there for his boyfriend through it all. It all depended on Hope agreeing and that was something that could easily end up throwing a spanner in the works. Ben knew that he just had to believe that she would go along with it because if she didn’t then Jed wouldn’t be able to become a hybrid. This was what they both wanted and he hoped that Hope would see that in time as well. “It would be great to have you all there,” Ben agreed. Ben was already going to be there for Jed when he woke up but he couldn’t deny that he would rather not have to go through that wait alone. Ric seemed to be happy to agree but Ben wasn’t sure about Jenna. JENNA SALTZMAN & JED SALTZMAN

Things had changed at the house when Jed moved in with them and things had changed again after he moved out. It had taken a while for him to start letting them in but as far as Josie was concerned he was her brother and the fact that they weren’t related by blood didn’t matter. She still looked up to Jed and she knew that she always would. He had been there for her while she was figuring things out and ever since he met Ben she had been doing her best to return the favour. She knew that Jed had struggled at first when he started realising that he had feelings for Ben and she had seen how much he had agonised over it. For a while he had gone back to being the old Jed but he had soon snapped out of it and even though he and Ben had had their ups and downs, they had managed to work it all out and she really was happy for them for that. She would be lying if she said that she hadn’t worried about their relationship after the dragon attacked, she had seen Jed die and that was something that she carried with her to this day. In a way she knew that they were even now because Jed had seen her die as well but things were finally looking up for both of them and she really was glad about that. They had stopped the monsters from going after Ben and they were getting closer to breaking his curse altogether with each passing day and she knew that she supported the two of them wholeheartedly. “That’s right, you’ll have to watch out for him,” Josie warned Ben playfully before sending a smile in her brother’s direction. She was only teasing of course, she loved Jed and she could mess around with him in a way that she couldn’t with Lizzie because she was often worried about upsetting her sister. With Jed she could be herself and that was like a breath of fresh air as far as she was concerned. She could see just how happy he and Ben were together and she was so glad that they had found each other. The happiness of the people she loved really did mean the world to Josie and that was never going to change. As Ben let on that he’d noticed that Jed had been sneaking food, Josie couldn’t help but laugh. “Looks like you weren’t as stealthy as you thought,” she teased, nudging her brother’s arm gently with her own. She was surprised when Jed brought up becoming a hybrid, she knew that she really shouldn’t have been considering that she had thought about becoming a heretic for Hope when the time came since one day she would have triggered her vampire side so she should have known that Jed would want to do the same. They were alike in that respect and Josie couldn’t deny that she loved the idea of having him by her side all the time, and Ben too. A lot of their friends were immortal and she knew that she would have them too but most of her family was mortal and even though it might be selfish she knew that she wanted to hold onto as many of them as she could so since this was clearly what Jed wanted then she knew that she wasn’t going to stop him. Unlike her, it seemed that her parents had seen this conversation coming and she felt a smile touch her lips as they both spoke and gave Jed their blessing. “Thank you guys,” she said sincerely as both Jed and Ben said that they would look out for her. “I’ll look out for both of you in return and so will Hope.” They’d been doing that ever since Jed had started opening up and she knew that it wasn’t going to change no matter how much time passed. She hated the fact that her parents wouldn’t always be there with her but she would still have some of her family and that was all she could ask for. Hearing that Jed wanted to speak to Hope and then become a hybrid at the weekend was enough to make Josie’s eyes widen in surprise. “You don’t waste any time, do you?” she asked, a smile forming on her face as the surprise subsided a little. “I’m sure she’ll say yes once she knows this is what you want. How could she not?” she asked as she looked over at her brother. “I won’t say anything to her about this, it will be best coming from you,” she added, knowing that it wasn’t her place to talk to her girlfriend about this when it was Jed’s life that it was going to change. As Jed said that they could be there with him, Josie nodded. “I’ll be there. It’s the least I can do since you were there for me when I woke up,” she assured him gently. “Have you decided how you want to do this?” she asked, knowing that even when Hope agreed to give him her blood there was still the matter of Jed dying to think about.
