Ben knew that he had a lot of making up to do and the truth was that to begin with he had thought that he might have lost Jed for keeping this from him but Jed slowly seemed to be thawing and Ben couldn’t deny that he was glad about that. He’d meant it when he had told Jed that he loved him, his feelings for Jed were so much stronger even than his feelings for Ashur had ever been and he honestly had thought that he was doing the right thing by keeping Jed out of this but he knew that he should have let him in. Ben had seen how much he had hurt Jed and he knew that he never wanted to do that again so he was determined to be completely honest with Jed from now on. “I might do,” Ben chuckled as Jed mentioned him thinking that compliments might make him forgive him faster. “It’s also the truth,” he added before feeling his grin widen as Jed said that he would be right in thinking that. Jed was a lot of things and Ben wouldn’t be surprised if there were still things about Jed that he had yet to learn but Ben loved him anyway and that wasn’t going to change. As Jed said he knew that Ben wasn’t used to having someone who really wanted to help him, Ben lifted his gaze to meet Jed’s. “It’ll be you and me from here on out, I promise,” Ben assured him, knowing that the last thing he wanted was to make Jed angry with him like that again. He had spent so much time worrying about something bad happening to Jed but it had ended up working out that way anyway because Jed had chosen to push him out of the way. Ben knew why Jed had done it, when push had come to shove Jed hadn’t wanted him to get hurt but the difference was that Ben would heal from whatever happened to him. It wasn’t like that for Jed, when he died that was it but Ben hadn’t been able to let him go out like that. He still didn’t understand how he had managed it but soon enough Jed was awake and talking again and Ben knew that he had never felt more relieved in his life. Nodding as Jed promised not to do that again, Ben’s expression softened. “You’re crazy, you know that?” he asked gently, no hint of anger in his words just pure affection. “You know I would have healed and yet you still pushed me out of the way. I know why you did it and I love you for it but you scared everyone here. I think it will be a while before they’ll want to let you out of their sight, I know it will be for me,” he said, leaning into Jed’s touch as his thumb brushed over his cheek. He really did understand why Jed had done it but it didn’t change the fact that Jed had died for him. “You might not have been gone for very long but the world was a much darker place without you in it,” he added, already knowing that it wasn’t a world worth living in. “I’d do anything for you,” Ben said as Jed thanked him for bringing him back. He didn’t know how he had managed to bring Jed back but he certainly wasn’t going to argue with it and if there were ramifications then he knew that they would face them together. “I feel a bit tired but I’m fine. Don’t worry about me,” Ben assured him, knowing that that was the last thing that Jed needed after what he had just been through. “I am thanks to you, I can’t believe you did that,” he admitted gently. He had never met anyone who would go to those lengths for him but he knew that he didn’t want Jed to put himself in harm’s way like that again. Nodding as Jed agreed that they should head inside, Ben helped Jed to his feet and kept Jed’s hand firmly clasped in his. It still felt a little surreal that Jed was alive again but Ben knew that he wouldn’t have it any other way. Ben’s heart ached as Jed still tried to look out for the younger students even after everything that had just happened to him and Ben was glad when a couple of the older students started taking over ushering them inside, pretty sure that they were members of Jed’s pack. “Thank you,” he said sincerely to Hope and Josie as they said that they would handle the dragon. He could see how upset Josie still was but her tears had dried and he could already see that she was springing into action to take care of the dragon. With Jed’s hand still clasped in his they headed inside and Ben followed Jed to a room that seemed to be familiar to Jed. Heading inside, Ben nodded as Jed asked if this would give them some privacy. “It’s perfect,” he confirmed, letting his hands rest against Jed’s cheeks as Ben’s eyes met his. “You’re really okay? You weren’t just saying that because the others were around?” he asked, needing to know the truth. JED SALTZMAN

– I freed myself from words never said –
Jed was glad that they had managed to sort things out. He was glad that he had chosen to stay and didn’t just turn around and leave Ben because that was definitely something the other and old version of him would have done, but no. He decided to stay and it worked out in their favor.
When Ben called him crazy, he couldn’t help the chuckle that left his lips as he nodded his head as if to tell Ben that he knew exactly what he was talking about. Jed was quiet as he listened to Ben explain that even though Ben would have healed if the dragon had gotten to him, he still pushed him out of the way. Jed’s lips stretched to form a brief smile when Ben told him that it will definitely be a while before he was allowed out of their sights. “I know.” He didn’t blame them for it. If anything, he was grateful that they cared so much about him. “I don’t exactly blame you guys for it.” Jed added a moment later with a brief chuckle falling from his lips. “But don’t worry, no more crazy stunts from me. I’m staying right here with you.”
Jed’s eyes softened when Ben told him that the world was a much darker place without him in it. “I’m really sorry.” It must have hurt Ben a great deal to lose him when he had already suffered so much after the loss of his lover and best friend, Ashur. There was a flash of concern in Jed’s eyes when Ben told him that he was feeling a bit tired. It must have taken quite a bit of strength out of him to bring him back to life. “You really don’t have to thank me.” Jed quickly told him with a soft smile tugging at the corner of his lips. “I’m just happy that you are safe.”
Jed’s attention drifted to Josie, his heart squeezing at the sight of tears in her eyes. But at least her tears seemed to have dried. “I’m okay.” He mouthed as he offered her a gentle smile before his attention drifted back to Hope, a silent request for her to take care of Josie after seeing something as stressful as him dying.
Jed guided Ben to his dorm room which wasn’t as lived-in as his bedroom back home, but it still looked familiar to him. When Ben’s hands came to rest against his cheeks, his eyes met Ben’s, and almost immediately, his hands moved up to rest them on Ben’s. “I’m really okay.” Jed assured him in a soft voice before he leaned forward to press his lips against Ben in a gentle kiss. “But this whole experience, it made me realize something…” Jed bit down on his bottom lip momentarily as he took a step closer to Ben, eliminating the distance between them more and more.
“I never said it back.” Jed’s eyes were focused solely on Ben’s bright ones. “You told me that you loved me and I never said it back. If you hadn’t brought me back, I…” Jed gulped past the lump in his throat as he pushed the thought away because he wanted to focus on something else. “What I’m trying to say, Ben, is that I love you too.”

Ben really wouldn’t have blamed Jed if he had walked away after learning what he had done, Ben had promised that he would be honest with Jed and he had broken that promise but Jed had still stayed. He had forgiven him and Ben knew that he wasn’t going to do anything to make Jed regret that decision. He had already lost one person he loved and that had been out of his control completely but now with Jed he had somehow managed to bring him back and as far as Ben was concerned that spoke volumes about just how much he loved Jed. Jed’s story could have easily ended with the dragon but it hadn’t done, he was back and Ben knew that he didn’t want Jed to go through anything like that again. Looking over at Jed, Ben could see that Jed knew exactly what he’d meant when he’d called him crazy. What Jed had done was completely irrational, Ben would have come back anyway the same way he always did and yet Jed had still given his life to protect him. That was something that Ben had never expected anyone to do for him but it was just another way in which Jed was able to keep surprising him it seemed. As Jed said he didn’t blame them for not wanting to let him out of their sight, Ben nodded. “Speaking of which, would it be okay if I stayed with you tonight? I don’t want to leave you alone,” he admitted gently. He especially didn’t want to let Jed out of his sight right now so he hoped that Jed wouldn’t mind. “I’m going to hold you to that,” Ben assured him, knowing that he would give anything to keep Jed with them where he belonged. As Jed said he was really sorry, Ben’s expression softened. “Why are you apologising? You have nothing to apologise for,” he said gently. He knew that he couldn’t be mad at Jed about this, it was exactly what he had feared would happen but he understood why Jed had done it and the truth was that Ben was far too relieved that Jed was back to be angry about it. Even though he hadn’t been able to bring himself to look away from Jed he had still known that a group had gathered and he had been able to hear how upset they all were. Jed meant a lot to everyone and Ben didn’t doubt that they would have hated going on without him as well. “I am and it’s all because of you,” he nodded, offering Jed a half smile as he looked over at him. “Now we’re going to have to work that much harder to find a way of stopping this curse because I don’t want you getting any crazy ideas like that again,” he teased, already starting to feel like things were getting back to normal to an extent. Kissing Jed back once they were alone, Ben couldn’t deny that he was glad when Jed said that he was really okay. He had worried that Jed was just saying that because he hadn’t wanted anyone to think differently of him but he didn’t have to do that with Ben. Ben wanted him to always tell him how he was feeling and he believed Jed. “You never said what back?” Ben asked, his heart starting to race a little now that Jed was in such close proximity. As Jed continued and said that he loved him too, Ben’s expression softened even as his heart leapt. “I know,” he said sincerely, his eyes fixed on Jed as he spoke. “You didn’t need to say it back, what you did had already told me that,” he explained, bringing one of his hands up and brushing Jed’s hair away from his face gently. He knew that Jed would help anyone who needed it but there had never been a doubt in his mind that Jed had pushed him out of the way because he loved him. “I’m so glad you’re back,” he admitted as he closed the little distance that remained between them and kissed Jed passionately, letting his forehead rest against Jed’s as he pulled back slightly. “I love you so much.”JED SALTZMAN

– I freed myself from words never said –
Jed’s expression softened when Ben asked if he could stay with him because he didn’t want to leave him alone. “Of course.” He replied in an instant as his lips stretched to form a soft smile. “I’d love for you to stay.” Jed added a moment later, meaning every word. It would certainly mean a lot to have Ben around him, especially after tonight. “I kept telling you that I wasn’t like Ashur, but I really proved myself wrong today.” Jed said with a soft sigh falling from his lips, his eyes relaxing on Ben once again. “I was so confident that I would be able to keep up with that promise but tonight proved otherwise. The universe made me bite my words tonight by turning me into a burnt chicken nugget.” Jed released a breathless chuckle at the way he referred to himself.
“Oh, please. I’m gonna burn through those books tonight and finish all of ‘em.” Jed paused for a moment when he processed his own words. “Okay, no more burn jokes. I promise. Also maybe not tonight. Tomorrow, though. Tomorrow we’ll go through the books and try out a few spells.” Jed said with a quick nod of his head, knowing that he wasn’t going to be able to do much today except stay with Ben.
Jed released a sigh of relief when Ben told him that his own actions had said it for him. He closed his eyes momentarily when Ben brushed his hair away from his face. “I’m so glad I’m here with you, too.” Jed’s eyes fluttered shut when their lips made contact again as he stepped closer to Ben, returning the kiss with returning passion as he wrapped his arms around Ben, holding him close to himself. “I love you too, Ben. So much.” Jed breathed out in a soft voice as he allowed his forehead to rest against Ben’s. “Today was a harsh reminder to how short life can be and I—” Jed trailed off as a frown began tugging at his features. “I don’t want to live it in the fear of tomorrow. In the fear of am I gonna live another day or is life going to remind me of how painfully mortal I am. It had me thinking about asking Hope to make me into a hybrid. Like Raf. But I— I guess a part of me is scared about how that will affect me. Rafael has been struggling so much and I really feel for him because being a wolf is hard enough, but I also don’t want to grow old and dusty and leave you behind. I made you a promise and I intend to keep it.”

Ben wasn't used to asking for anything but the truth was that he really didn't want to sleep alone tonight. Seeing Jed's life come to an end like that had broken something inside of him and he knew that it must have been that much worse for Jed. He had died without knowing if he would ever come back and Ben knew that chances were that would end up taking a toll on him. He wanted to be there for Jed if he could so he couldn't deny that he was relieved when Jed agreed that he could stay, even saying that he would love for him to do that. "Thank you," he said sincerely. "It might sound strange but I don't want to be away from you right now although I'm the reason you died so I wouldn't have blamed you if you'd wanted space." Right now he wasn't even sure if he would be able to sleep that night despite the fact that he felt exhausted after bringing Jed back, the truth was that he wouldn't be surprised if he ended up watching over Jed while he slept instead. It was slowly starting to sink in that he was really here but Ben knew that it was going to take time. He wasn't sure how Jed's family would react to him now after Jed died for him but he didn't doubt that they would find out soon enough. "Way too soon, Jed," Ben groaned as Jed referred to himself as a burnt chicken nugget. "You're still nothing like Ashur. He fell sick and died while you did what you did to protect me. There's a difference," he said gently. "Besides, what I feel for you is stronger than anything I've felt for anyone before, even Ashur. I think that's why I was able to bring you back and not him." He had broken into Heaven to try and save Ashur but he had been too late and, as it turned out, the power had quite literally been inside of him all along but it was losing Jed that had made him tap into it and as far as Ben was concerned that spoke volumes. "You say no more burn jokes but I get the feeling we're all going to be hearing those for a while," he teased. "I think that's the right call, tonight you need to rest," he said gently. He had managed to bring Jed back but he had no idea how and he didn't know if there would be any side effects either so he wanted Jed to take it easy for a while. "Everything else can wait."As Jed let out a sigh, Ben could tell that he was relieved and he looked at Jed in surprise. "You didn't really think I wouldn't be able to tell how you felt, did you?" he asked, his expression softening as his eyes met Jed's. As Jed stepped closer to him, Ben wrapped his arms around his boyfriend and lost himself in the kiss for a moment, enjoying the feeling of Jed's lips against his and the feeling of Jed's heart beating in time with his. Ben had honestly thought that he wouldn't get to experience either of those things again and he knew that he wasn't going to take any of their time together for granted. As Jed said that he loved him, Ben's heart leapt. "I'll never get tired of hearing you say that and I'll never get tired of saying it to you," he admitted gently as he pressed a light kiss to Jed's forehead before letting his forehead rest against Jed's once more. "You could keep your promise to me and still stay mortal. I'll say one thing for the Twilight films, Edward had it right when he said that he would find a way to end his own life when Bella died if she'd stayed mortal. I got a glimpse of a world without you in it today and it's not one I want to be a part of," he said, his eyes locked on Jed's as he spoke. "Your family is mortal and so is your pack. If you decide to become a hybrid it has to be because it's what you want, not because it's what you think I want or what you think you need to do to be with me. I meant it when I said I'm not going anywhere," he said, leaning forward and pressing his lips against Jed's once more. "You don't need to worry about struggling like Raf. You have so many people who love you, we'd never let you go through that," Ben assured him. JED SALTZMAN

– I freed myself from words never said –
Hearing Ben say that he didn't want to be away from him was enough to put a soft smile on Jed's lips. "I don't find it strange and honestly, you know what? I don't want to be alone, either." Jed admitted in a soft voice, his eyes remaining solely on Ben. "You're not the reason that I died. I chose to put myself in front of you. It was my choice." Jed's voice was soft as he spoke, wanting Ben to know that he didn't blame him in any way. He had made the decision to put himself in front of the flames and he had no regrets whatsoever because it meant that Ben didn't have to go through the pain of dying and resurrecting again.
Jed couldn't help the chuckle that fell from his lips when Ben pointed out the fact that his joke was a little too soon before he released that groan that made his grin widen. "Sorry, I couldn't help it." Was his response to Ben's statement about his joke being a little too soon. Jed couldn't believe that he had died and come back to life. It all felt so surreal. It felt like he had gone to sleep and then when he woke up, he was outside of the school with Ben. He felt incredibly lucky, though. If it weren't for Ben, he would have stayed dead. Jed's expression softened as he listened to Ben, his words making his heart skip a beat in the most pleasant way possible. It really did mean a lot to him to hear Ben say that. "I wanna say that I'd do this for you any time, but I have a feeling you might scold me if I do," Jed said with a half-smile resting on his lips. "But, what I'm trying to say is that I don't regret what I did and I never will. I meant it when I said that you're worth dying for, Ben."
Jed's lips stretched to form a grin when Ben managed to see through him. "Me? No, no. No more burn jokes." Jed shook his head, pretending to be serious for a moment before he cleared his throat and nodded his head. "Okay, yeah, It's definitely gonna pop up every now and then," Jed added a moment later with a chuckle falling from his lips not long after. When Ben told him that tonight he needs to rest, he nodded his head in agreement with him. Jed didn't want to push himself too far and risk falling ill. He didn't want to worry his family or Ben again.
Jed's eyes lifted to rest on Ben, his question making his lips stretch to form a soft smile. "No, I didn't. I'm glad that you did, though." He was really glad that Ben had seen through his actions, had known that Jed did it because he loved Ben. Saying that he loved Ben felt so new but it didn't mean that he hated it in any way. No, actually. He was pretty sure now that he'd said it for the first time, that he wasn't going to stop saying it. "Honestly, me neither." Jed breathed out with a soft smile resting on his lips. It felt surreal but it also felt so natural to be able to tell Ben that he loved him. Jed was quiet as he listened to Ben, nodding his head slowly as he processed his words. Jed had a few things holding him back from becoming an immortal being, it was both due to his family being mortals, same with his pack. Jed returned the kiss as his hands moved to rest on Ben's chest, mainly just letting them rest there while his lips moved against Ben's until the kiss came to an end and he leaned back not long after, his eyes relaxing on Ben once again. "I know," Jed said with a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips. "I'll think about it and see what I'll decide in the end. Either way, I'm going to spend the rest of my time with you and nothing is going to change that." He was going to weigh his options carefully and make up his mind because he knew that becoming a hybrid wasn't going to be a walk in the park for him. "For now, though. I just wanna stay with you." Jed leaned forward to press yet another quick kiss to Ben's lips before he leaned back and began making his way to his bed, his hand holding onto Ben's as he sat down on the edge of the bed before patting the spot next to him. "Also, don't think I didn't notice you quoting Edward Cullen just now. That was pretty good. Look at you, quoting movies already." Jed's lips stretched to form a proud smile as he nudged Ben with his elbow.

“In that case you won’t be alone. I’ll stay with you for as long as you’ll let me,” Ben nodded. He really didn’t want to leave Jed’s side right now and if he was honest after they’d spent the night together he had come to realise that he wasn’t particularly keen on sleeping alone either. Jed really was changing everything for him and Ben knew that he wanted to make the most of whatever time they had together. He had always known that he would lose Jed one day considering he was mortal but he definitely hadn’t thought that it would happen so soon and now that he was back Ben knew that he didn’t want to waste a moment. “You never should have been put in that position in the first place though,” he said gently. Ben knew that Jed would have been with him regardless of whether he had told him what he was doing or not but he still hated that Jed had gone through that and he knew that he didn’t want anything like that to happen again. “I know you couldn’t,” Ben teased, rolling his eyes playfully. He would be lying if he said that the joke hadn’t made his heart ache as he’d thought about what had happened but it was just like Jed to joke about that so Ben knew that he was just going to have to get used to it. He knew that it wasn’t really a laughing matter but if making jokes was Jed’s way of dealing with it then Ben knew that he was going to support him no matter what. Truth be told Ben was just glad that Jed was able to make those jokes at all. “You’re right, I would definitely scold you for it,” Ben nodded. “You definitely proved that today,” he admitted, his expression softening as he looked over at Jed. He would be lying if he said that a part of him hadn’t thought that Jed was just saying it when he’d said that he was worth dying for but Jed had gone and done that anyway so Ben knew how much he meant it. “I’d be lying if I said I didn’t know how you feel. Even if I wasn’t able to resurrect I’d give my life for you in an instant.” There wasn’t a doubt in his mind about that, in all the years he had lived he had never found anyone who was truly worth dying for but he had found that in Jed. “Mhmm,” Ben muttered as Jed said that there wouldn’t be any more burn jokes, knowing that he didn’t buy that for a minute. As Jed said that it was going to pop up every now and then, Ben couldn’t help but laugh. “There are definitely worse ways of dealing with it,” he nodded. There were plenty of people who might lose themselves completely after going through something like that but not Jed, he seemed to be taking it completely in his stride and that was admirable. As Jed spoke again, Ben felt his smile return and he ran his hand lightly down Jed’s cheek. “In all the years I’ve lived I’ve never come across anyone who would do what you did today for me. That’s real love and I feel the same way about you,” he said gently. For a long time Ashur died he hadn’t wanted to find love again because he had felt like he would be betraying Ashur’s memory but as time went on he had realised that Ashur wouldn’t have wanted that for him. Even so he had never wanted anything more than a one night stand with anyone before Jed came along and he knew in his heart that he wouldn’t want to be with anyone after him either. Jed had changed so much for him and he knew that he wouldn’t have it any other way now. Ben knew that he hadn’t picked the best time to tell Jed that he loved him for the first time but now that he had he knew that he wasn’t going to stop making sure that Jed knew just how much he loved him. The fact that Jed was even considering becoming a hybrid was something that Ben hadn’t expected, he had never thought that it would ever be something that Jed would want and yet Ben knew that Jed wouldn’t have mentioned it if he wasn’t seriously considering it. He knew that he couldn’t be the only reason why Jed became a hybrid though, if he did it then it would have to be because he wanted to do it for other reasons too. Ben relished the feeling of Jed’s lips moving against his own as they kissed and as Jed moved his hands to rest them on his chest, Ben found himself smiling into the kiss. Just the thought that he had come so close to never being able to be with Jed again was enough to make his heart ache but he kept reminding himself that Jed was really here and that he was alright and it made things that much better. “You’re right, nothing will change that,” Ben nodded. “We’re stuck with each other now,” he added with a grin, knowing that he really wouldn’t want it any other way. As Jed said that for now he just wanted to stay with him, Ben’s expression softened as he kissed Jed back. “I’m not going anywhere,” he assured him as he followed Jed over to the bed and sat down next to him. “This feels familiar,” he said, remembering the make out session they’d ended up having in Jed’s room at home what felt like a lifetime ago now. As Jed spoke again, Ben couldn’t help but laugh. “What can I say, I learnt from the best,” he chuckled as he nudged Jed back. “Unlike Edward, I’m selfish. I could never leave you the way he left Bella,” he admitted, his eyes locked on Jed’s as he spoke. JED SALTZMAN

– I freed myself from words never said –
“Of course, I’ll let you.” Jed’s lips stretched to form a soft yet thankful when Ben told him that he wasn’t going to be alone. He was thankful for Ben’s presence in his life because right now, he really did feel like he had everything he could ever wish for. Ben really did mean a lot to him and he had exerted his own strength to bring him back to life, if it weren’t for him, he would have stayed in that dark place that was shrouded in silence. Jed didn’t even for once regret giving up his own life for Ben, if anything, he was glad that the dragon had lost its chance to hurt Ben. Jed shook his head with a half-smile forming on his lips. “We talked about this.” Jed reminded him in a soft voice.
“I just— gotta burn through those jokes and then I’ll stop.” Jed said with a proud grin forming on his lips when he found yet another way to say the word ‘burn’, looking awfully smug despite the fact that he’d been burnt to a crisp by the dragon. Jed was alive right now and that was all that mattered to him. Jed couldn’t help the way his expression softened when Ben told him that he’d give his life for him in an instant. Jed reached out to gently squeeze Ben’s hand in a reassuring manner. “Hey, we don’t have to think about that anymore. We’re alive now and that’s all that matters to me.”
“That’s true. But, you and I are alive, I take that as a big win, so I don’t see a reason as to why I should linger on, well, me dying for a few minutes.” Jed’s shoulders lifted and dropped in a quick shrug with a half-smile resting on his lips. Ben’s next words were enough to make his heart skip a beat, his eyes softening in an instant as he kept his eyes focused solely on Ben. “You really mean so much to me, Ben. You are it for me.” Jed had never felt this way for anyone before. Jed was pretty sure that he was crazy about Ben, the other was the only person clouding his mind and thoughts these days and he doubted that anything was ever going to change that. That’s how much he meant to Jed.
“Yup. We are.” Jed’s lips stretched to form a grin when Ben told him that they were stuck with each other. “Wouldn’t have it any other way.” Jed sat down with Ben on the bed and when he told him that it felt familiar, he tilted his head in a silent question before realization sank in. Their makeout session. Jed let out a soft chuckle before he nodded his head. “Yeah, the good thing about this dorm room is that we are less likely to get interrupted by my family this time ‘round.” Jed seemed to realize something when he said the word ‘family’ and his eyes relaxed on Ben once again. “Speaking of which, I have news.” Judging from the smile on Jed’s lips, it was definitely the good type of news.
“Oh, I’m very honored to hear you say that.” Jed couldn’t help the chuckle that left his lips. “And I’m pretty glad that you’re selfish because I’m selfish too when it comes to you.” Jed’s hand moved to rest on top of Ben’s, giving it a gentle squeeze.

Ben wasn’t used to caring about anyone, he’d had a couple of friends along the way but those were few and far between and for the most part he hadn’t spent too much time with them before he’d had to move on. This time things were different, now he had friends he could count on and more than anything he had a guy he loved with all his heart. He still didn’t understand how he had managed to heal Jed and bring him back when he’d never been able to do anything even remotely close to that before but Ben knew better than to look a gift horse in the mouth so he knew that he didn’t want to question it too much. “I’m glad. It’s not the same waking up without you next to me,” Ben admitted gently. They hadn’t done anything more than sleep in the same bed together but the truth was that he was okay with that. Being with Jed was all that mattered to him and he knew that any morning he was able to wake up next to Jed would be a good one. “I know we did,” Ben nodded as Jed reminded him that they had already talked about this. “I guess I should stop being such a downer, huh?” he asked, a smile touching his lips as his eyes met Jed’s. As Jed said that he just had to burn through the jokes, Ben couldn’t help but laugh. “They’re just getting worse. You know that, right?” he teased, shaking his head in amusement. “Even if you are just warming up,” he added, unable to resist throwing one of his own in there. Ben knew that it wasn’t a laughing matter, after all Jed had died, but it seemed like he really had found his way of dealing with it and if that meant making awful jokes then Ben knew that he could go along with that. If anything Jed seemed to be looking on the bright side and Ben really was proud of him for that. “You’re right, no more dwelling on what happened. You’re here, that’s all that matters.” Ben wouldn’t be surprised if they would have some explaining to do to other people but that wasn’t something they had to worry about now and for that he was glad. “That’s a good way of looking at it,” Ben admitted, glad that Jed was able to look at it in that way because he got the feeling that most people wouldn’t be able to. As Jed said that he was it for him, Ben’s expression softened. “I’m so glad you feel that way because you’re the one for me,” he said gently. He had been in love before but it paled in comparison to what he felt for Jed and he knew that he wanted to make the most of every minute they had together. Jed was the one person who was constantly on his mind and now whenever he thought about the future it no longer filled him with dread, instead he found himself looking forward to being able to have a life with Jed. “Neither would I,” Ben said, a smile touching his lips as Jed said that he wouldn’t have it any other way. He could see that Jed was confused for a moment as he said that this felt familiar but then he seemed to realise what he meant and Ben’s smile widened. “I definitely won’t argue with that,” he nodded, knowing that it would be good not having to worry about being interrupted. As Jed said he had news, Ben’s expression turned curious. “What news?” he asked, unable to deny that he was intrigued although he could already see that it was good news. “It’s true,” Ben chuckled as Jed said he was honoured to hear that he’d learnt from the best. As Jed said he was selfish when it came to him too, Ben’s expression softened. “Perhaps that’s why we’re such a good match,” he said, lifting their joined hands and pressing a light kiss to Jed’s. – I freed myself from words never said –
Jed was quiet as he listened to Ben, his words touching a part of him that seemed to flutter pleasantly as he processed his words. They certainly meant a lot to Jed because he felt the exact same way, too. Jed released a chuckle when Ben told him that he should stop being such a downer. "Downer? You? Never." Jed teased with a grin resting on his lips not long after.
"I don't think I can stop. I think I need help." Jed joked with a chuckle falling from his lips. It was certainly weird that he was making jokes about the way he had died, but at the same time, it wasn't. He wanted to push past that and focus on the fact that he was alive. Jed's brows quirked up when Ben tossed his own joke in there by saying that he was just warming up which made Jed release a laugh. "Oh my god. You did not" Jed couldn't help the way he continued laughing at that because it was actually pretty good. "That was actually really funny."
Jed couldn't help the way his heart fluttered pleasantly when Ben told him that he was the one for him. It really did mean a lot to Jed to hear Ben say something like that. It was so unbelievably romantic and honestly, Jed was whipped already. Jed turned to look at Ben a little better as he told him that he won't argue with his statement about his dorm room being different from his room back at home. Less chances of them getting interrupted. "Ric and Jenna, they, uh, they adopted me. Officially." Jed said with a gentle smile resting on his lips. "I know I was a part of their family already, but being adopted by them... It made everything feel, I dunno, official." Jed's lips stretched to form a soft smile. "I also told them that I want to change my surname. That name has brought me nothing but pain and misery for the longest time because of my father. I don't want to be a part of that family anymore." Jed shook his head as his eyes moved to meet Ben's once again. "So yeah, that's the news that I have." Jed added a moment later with a grin already tugging at his lips.
Jed's smile came back to his lips almost right away as he listened to Ben and when he leaned forward to connect their lips, Jed responded to the kiss almost instantly as his free hand moved up to rest on Ben's cheek, drawing him even closer to himself as he kissed him with passion visible in the way his lips moved against Ben's.

All of this was still so new to Ben, he wasn't used to having anyone in his corner let alone having someone he felt like this about. When he'd decided to head to Mystic Falls he had thought that it was his last chance to finally break his curse but he had found so much more than that in Mystic Falls. He had found a guy he loved, friends and a chance to build a life for himself surrounded by people he could truly be himself with and Ben knew that he was never going to want to give that up. He and Jed had had a fight earlier that day but that was all in the past now and Ben knew that he wanted it to stay that way. "You're a terrible liar, you know that?" Ben teased as he looked over at Jed. To anyone else it might seem strange that Jed was making jokes about what had happened but Ben knew that that really was Jed all over. It was his way of working through it and Ben knew that he wasn't going to try and put a stop to it because it seemed to be working for Jed. "You definitely need help," he teased, a playful smile forming on his face as he spoke. Jed's reaction to what had happened really was infectious it seemed and even though it felt strange making a joke about what had happened Jed's reaction was enough to have his smile widening. "What if I did?" he grinned as Jed said that he did not. As Jed said that it was really funny, Ben couldn't help but laugh. "I'm glad you liked it," he chuckled, knowing that Jed's reaction was more than worth it. In the past Ben had worried about scaring Jed off by coming on too strong but Jed had taken it all in his stride. Now Jed had said that he was it for him and Ben had no problem telling Jed the same thing in his own way. He really believed that Jed was the one for him and he was pretty sure that he had done ever since that very first day. He still didn't know what it was about Jed that had drawn him in but no matter what it was, Ben knew that he was powerless to resist. As Jed shared his news, Ben gave his boyfriend's hand a gentle squeeze. There were plenty of terms that Jed and the others used that he had never heard before but adoption was something that he had heard about before and the fact that Ric and Jenna had done that for Jed really was amazing. "That's incredible Jed, I'm so happy for you," he said sincerely. "You've finally got the family you deserve officially," he added, knowing that words couldn't describe just how pleased for Jed he was. He was a little surprised when Jed said that he wanted to change his surname but it did make sense. "Jed Saltzman has a nice ring to it," he admitted, a smile touching his lips as he looked over at Jed. "How did they react when you told them?" He had heard how surprised they were when Jed had called Ric dad the day Ben had met them all at the house so he wouldn't have blamed them if they hadn't seen that coming. "That really is the best news," he nodded, glad that things finally seemed to be going Jed's way. It wasn't that long ago that Jed had told him to kiss him whenever he wanted to and Ben wanted nothing more in that moment. As Jed's hand came up to rest against his cheek, Ben's hand moved to settle on Jed's leg as he shifted a little closer to him, pouring everything he had into the kiss. JED SALTZMAN

Jed couldn’t help the grin that stretched his lips when Ben called him a liar. “Well, you’re certainly not always optimistic.” Jed teased him in a light-hearted manner. When Ben tossed in his own joke, Jed couldn’t help the laugh that escaped his lips because it was probably the funniest one yet. “Can’t believe you’re making a joke of something so scary like that.” Jed shook his head, pretending to be disappointed for a second but the grin that formed on his lips not long after definitely showed that he was only messing around and didn’t actually mean it. “Oh, I loved it.” Jed had no doubt that if someone were to hear them making jokes about his death they would think they were crazy or something but honestly? Jed didn’t care in the slightest. It made the whole situation seem a lot less — scary.
Jed’s happiness was evident on his expression when Ben told him that he was happy for him. “Thank you. I’m really happy, too.” Jed said with a soft smile resting on his lips. “It’s crazy how everything good started to happen after you entered my life. I guess that says a lot about the kind of person that you are.” Jed said with a soft smile resting on his lips as his eyes remained fixed solely on Jed. “Definitely surprised, they kinda had the same look as you did just seconds ago.” Jed pointed out with a chuckle falling from his lips. “Right? Jedidiah Saltzman.” Jed repeated with a pleased smile resting on his lips. He knew that his family was going to express their worry about him once he goes home but for now, he wanted to focus solely on Ben. “Thanks.”
Jed released a soft sigh against Ben’s lips when he felt Ben’s hand settle on his leg. Jed wrapped his arm around Ben’s middle to bring him even closer to himself, enjoying the way Ben’s lips felt against his own. It erased every scary thought that crossed his mind when the fire consumed him. It made him forget everything. Jed’s other hand moved to rest on the back of Ben’s head, his fingers getting lost in Ben’s hair.

"Alright, I'll give you that," Ben chuckled as Jed said that he wasn't always optimistic. He knew that it was true but then again after everything that he had been through and all of the disappointment that he had faced over the years it was difficult to remain optimistic. As Jed said he couldn't believe he'd made a joke about something scary like that, Ben knew that he was just messing around but he still couldn't ignore the way his heart sank at the disappointed look on Jed's face. Moments later it was replaced by a grin, though, and Ben let out a sign of relief. Jed had been making jokes about it ever since he'd come back but Ben would be lying if he said that he hadn't worried that he might have said something to upset Jed after all. As Jed said that he loved it, Ben couldn't help but laugh. "I love the way you look at all of this," he admitted gently. It really wasn't what he had expected at all but it was refreshing to say the least. "You seem to take everything in your stride.""I wish I could take credit for all of it but I think your family had a lot to do with it," Ben said, bringing his hand up and letting it rest against Jed's cheek. They had already taken Jed in and given him a home before Ben arrived in town so he knew that that was nothing to do with him but he had seen how happy Jed had become and it was a great feeling to know that he had played a part in that. "I'm glad everything is falling into place, you deserve the best of everything," he added gently. Jed had been let down by his father but he had a new family now and Ben could see just how happy Jed was with them so he was so glad that they had found each other. "I guess I can understand that, they were surprised when you called Ric dad the day we were at your house," he admitted, not sure whether Jed had ever realised what he had said or not. "I think you almost called Jenna your mom too." Jed had stopped himself from calling her that but he hadn't stopped himself from calling Ric dad. "That definitely has a nice ring to it," Ben nodded as Jed said his new full name out loud. It was definitely one that Ben liked, that was for sure. Ben heard Jed sigh as his hand found Jed's leg and it was enough to have Ben smiling into the kiss. In that moment it was easy to forget about everything that had happened earlier that day, all he could focus on was Jed and each point of connection between them. He didn't offer any resistance as Jed pulled him closer, in fact he didn't hesitate in moving closer to his boyfriend. As Jed's hand moved into his hair it was Ben's turn to sigh in contentment and his free hand moved up to rest on Jed's bicep as his lips kept on moving against Jed's knowing that this was something that he would never get tired of. Jed’s lips stretched into a grin at Ben's words when he seemed to agree with Jed that he wasn't always optimistic. "It's okay, it's one of your endearing qualities." Jed added a moment later with the same grin still present on his lips, his eyes not moving away from Ben. His gaze seemed to soften when Ben told him that he loved the way he looked at everything that has just happened to him. "Thank you. I'm pretty sure if I didn't, I'd drive myself mad." Jed admitted with a breathless chuckle falling from his lips. "Plus, being angry about everything and well, angsty, is something that the old version of me used to excel at." Jed pointed out a moment later with a half-smile resting on his lips as his shoulders lifted and dropped in a quick shrug. "Jed 2.0 is more of a glass-half-full kinda guy." Jed added a moment later with the same smile still resting on his lips. I
"Yeah, they've been amazing." Jed said with a soft smile tugging at the corner of his lips. Jed almost couldn't believe that they were his family. Luck had never been a permanent feature in his life but after Ric found him in the woods, luck started making more and more guest appearances in his life until it stayed for good when Jed stumbled across Ben. "I am too, honestly." It was definitely a big win and Jed was really happy about it. "Thanks." That was his response when Ben told him that he deserved the best of everything, his words touching a spot in his heart that he didn't know even existed. It was definitely a good thing, though. Jed's brows quirked up when Ben pointed out the fact that he had called Ric dad and had almost called Jenna mom. "Oh." Jed breathed out as he blinked a few times. "I didn't even realize that." Jed said with a breathless chuckle falling from his lips not long after. "Right? I like it a lot." Jed's lips stretched to form a grin. It felt a little strange but he had no doubt that he was definitely going to get used to it.
Jed really enjoyed the way Ben's lips felt against his own. He was pretty sure that he already felt addicted to the way they felt and tasted. He couldn't bring himself to pull back even if he wanted to, and truthfully, he didn't want to pull away. Jed felt his heart skip a beat at the way Ben release a sigh that gave away the fact that he was content with the fact that Jed's hand was in his hair. They kissed a lot, but they rarely ever got handsy like this except for that one time they made out, and Jed definitely liked it. He liked being touched by Ben and a part of him was already craving more. His arm unwrapped from Ben's middle so that he could trail his own hand up Ben's back, letting his hand explore until it moved to rest on the small of Ben's back, bringing himself closer until their chests were pressed together.
Jed leaned back when the need to breathe became too hard for him to ignore. He allowed his forehead to rest against Ben's as his chest rose and fell quickly, attempting to catch his breath. "Ben, I..." Jed gulped past the lump in his throat as he leaned back just enough to be able to meet Ben's eyes. "I think, uh, I think I'm ready." Jed finally spoke up once he had managed to catch his breath. "For the, you know, next step? It doesn't have to be like, right now, but I just... I wanted to tell you."

"Using my own words against me now, huh?" Ben teased, his expression laced with amusement as he looked over at Jed. He couldn't say that he was surprised considering that he sometimes did the same but it was still amusing nonetheless. "I'm trying to work on it since I have a lot to look forward to now." That was something that he had never had before and the truth was that it really did change everything. As Jed said that the old version of him would have been angry and angsty about it all but the new version wasn't like that, Ben felt a smile touch his lips. "I like Jed 2.0, his way of looking at things is catching," he admitted. It was because of Jed that Ben was trying to have a more positive outlook on life, before he had been on his own most of the time so there hadn't been anyone there to stop him getting lost to the darkness or getting lost inside his own head. Now he had Jed and he knew that he didn't want to live like that any longer so he really was trying to look at things the way that Jed did. Ben really was glad that the Saltzmans had found Jed and taken him in when they had done, it was clear that they loved him and that Jed loved them and Jed deserved that after everything that he had been through with his father. He deserved to be happy and the family had chosen to let him stay with them so they had given him that chance. "It's clear how much you mean to them, I could see they already thought of you as their son that day at your house." It had been obvious to Ben just how much Jed loved them and how much they loved Jed so he was so glad that things had worked out for them. "Now you have some family in your life who will always be there for you," he added gently. That was what Jed deserved and it meant a lot that he had that now. As Jed said that he hadn't even realised that he'd called Ric dad, Ben felt a smile touch his lips. "I didn't think you had. They were surprised but they were so pleased," he said, his smile widening as he looked over at Jed. As he said he liked the name Jedidiah Saltzman a lot, Ben nodded. "So do I, it suits you."It was so easy to get lost in the feeling of Jed's lips against his own. Jed had surprised him with their first kiss but ever since then Ben had found himself becoming more and more addicted to kissing Jed. They didn't often get the chance to be close like this, instead it was often just stolen kisses here and there, but Ben still loved it anyway. Every kiss was enough to make his heart leap in his chest and now was no exception. The sigh that left his lips as Jed's hand moved into his hair was automatic and he shifted a little closer to Jed. It wasn't long before Jed's free hand was moving over his back and as Jed closed the little distance that was remaining between them, Ben could already feel Jed's heart beating against him and it brought him more comfort after everything that had happened than he had thought it would. Bringing his hand up he let his palm rest over Jed's heart as he deepened the kiss, only moving back slightly when he had to catch his breath. Even then he didn't move back too far, though, and a smile touched his lips as Jed's forehead rested against his. "Hmm?" Ben hummed as Jed started speaking and then trailed off. Meeting Jed's gaze, Ben's heart leapt as Jed said that he was ready to take the next step but Ben studied him carefully for a moment, not wanting this to be something that Jed would end up regretting later. "Are you sure?" he asked gently, his eyes searching Jed's as he spoke. "You know how much you mean to me so I'm ready when you are but I don't want you to have any regrets."JED SALTZMAN
