Arriving in Mystic Falls had changed everything for Ben and that was something that he hadn’t expected at all. Heading there had been a last ditch attempt at finding a way to break his curse and even though he hadn’t yet managed to do that, he had already found so much more. Jed and Dr Saltzman had given him a home at the Salvatore School and by letting him enrol as a student they had given him a sense of direction that he’d never truly had before. He still had to worry about monsters tracking him down and whenever that happened he always tried to make sure that he was far away from the school and all of the students. That much hadn’t changed but Ben was determined to make sure that no one ended up getting hurt because of him and so far it seemed to be working out quite well. He had managed to make some friends during his time at the school and he was starting to learn more about the world that he had only ever lived on the outside of until now but the biggest change was something that he never would have expected – he had developed feelings for Jed. It had been that way ever since that very first day and since then those feelings had only grown. He wasn’t sure what it was about the guy that drew him in so much but Ben knew that he was powerless to resist it and Jed seemed to have exactly the same problem. It had taken Jed a while to get his head around it all but in the end Jed had been the one to make the first move and Ben was glad that he had done. Ever since then the two of them had been together and they were taking things at their own speed. It was easy when they were at school and they often ended up spending time talking out by the bonfire the way they had done that first night but they sometimes ended up spending time in town as well. That day, however, Jed had invited him back to his place so they could study and then watch a movie and Ben couldn’t deny that he was nervous. He had already met some of Jed’s family but he knew that it was different seeing them at school to seeing them in their own home. Ben knew that Josie liked him and he hoped that Lizzie and Dr Saltzman did as well but he knew that only time would tell. Ben liked to think that Jed would have said something if any of them had said they thought that he wasn’t right for Jed but he knew that there was only one way to find out how they really felt and chances were it might happen that day. “Are you sure this is okay?” Ben asked for what felt like the millionth time on the walk over, his bag slung over his shoulder as they headed towards Jed’s home. He knew that he really shouldn’t be nervous, after all he had been alive for over five thousand years and he had endured more than anyone could imagine but the thought of being in his boyfriend’s home and possibly meeting his family in that setting was enough to make even Ben nervous. – I freed myself from words never said –
Jed could tell that Ben was feeling nervous. He had asked the same question a couple of times and each time, Jed offered the same answer that it was going to be completely fine and that he was completely sure about this. When Ben asked the same question again, Jed couldn't help the chuckle that left his lips this time. "I'm one hundred percent sure that this is okay. You're worrying too much, Ben. They are going to love you." Jed assured him with a grin resting on his lips as he began moving closer and closer to the Saltzman residence.
Jed fished his keys out of his pocket, one hand still gripping the strap of his backpack, and carefully, he opened the door and gestured for Ben to head inside first. "Welcome to the Saltzman residence." Jed said with a grin resting on his lips. "Our humble abode." Jed placed his backpack down by the door and lingered behind Ben for a moment. "C'mon, let's go to my bedroom." Jed reached for his backpack to pick it back up again and began making his way to the stairs. "To study. Let's go to my bedroom to study. Should give us more privacy until you're ready to say hi to my family." Jed explained with a clear of his throat following, not sure why he needed to clarify that they will just be studying upstairs in his bedroom and not doing anything else. Oh god, it was already starting, wasn't it? His imagination was starting to run wild and it was already making him blush before he blinked a few times to snap out of it. Jed reached for the door handle to open the door that led into his bedroom and turned to look at Ben with a small smile. "It's not much, but this is me." Jed's voice was gentle as he spoke, his backpack still held in his hand and his eyes easily relaxed on Ben again.
Jed's bedroom had once been devoid of any decorations, or anything that normal kids his age usually put in their rooms but now, it was a lot more lively. He had pictures of his favorite movies, bands, and even vinyl records on the wall. There was a lava lamp on the bedside table. His room looked like it was lived in and it looked homey. He loved it. He loved being here. "It's a little on the messy side, sorry 'bout that." There were clothes on the chair facing his computer and some clothes in the laundry basket that were spilling out of there. He really should've cleaned up before he went to school today but he had been eager to see Ben that he got dressed and headed to school. He glanced over at Ben with a gentle smile resting on his lips, watching him with a content look on his face.

Ben wasn’t used to feeling nervous but then again he wasn’t used to having someone in his life that he cared about this much. For the first time in years he had something to lose and that was what terrified him. Jed already had a life in Mystic Falls, he had friends, his family and his pack and Ben knew just how much they all wanted him to be happy so the idea of any of them thinking that he wasn’t good enough for Jed scared him. Ben knew that it would be easy to let that fear consume him and stop him from enjoying his time with Jed but he was doing his best not to let that happen. He knew that he didn’t want to sabotage his own happiness, for the first time he could see himself really building a life somewhere and he had someone that he really wanted to stick around for so he knew that he didn’t want to do anything to ruin that. The moment the question left his lips Ben realised that he had asked Jed that a few times already and he felt his cheeks flush red slightly. “Sorry. They’re your family so I don’t want them to think I’m not good enough for you,” he breathed. That was his biggest fear, that they wouldn’t want Jed to be with someone who was cursed like he was, but he trusted Jed. “If you say it’ll be fine then I believe you,” he said gently. Feeling nervous was a new feeling for Ben but it was enough to make him realise just how much he cared about Jed. Watching as Jed pulled out his keys and unlocked the door, Ben looked around them as he stepped into the house. “I love it. You guys really are one big happy family,” he grinned as his gaze swept over the nearby photos that included plenty of Jed. Nodding as Jed said they should go to his room, Ben didn’t think anything much of it until Jed clarified and that was enough to have Ben reaching for Jed’s free hand so that he could draw him to a stop. “No rush, remember?” he asked, hoping that Jed would remember what he’d said to him the day they got together even though Ben’s mind was already straying to the same place that Jed’s seemed to have gone. The rest would happen when they were ready or it wouldn’t, either way Ben knew that he wasn’t going anywhere. “That sounds good. Are they home?” he asked, not sure whether they were still at the school or not. Following Jed upstairs, Ben looked around in wonder as he took in everything that lined Jed’s room. “Not much? This is perfect for you,” he admitted, his eyes drifting over posters belonging to bands and movies he had never heard of among other things. Very little of it meant anything to him but it was clearly important to Jed and Ben was glad that he had a space that was all his own. “You have nothing to apologise for, it looks just right like this,” he assured him as he turned back to look at Jed. “I guess we should probably get started before we get distracted, huh?” he asked, a smile touching his lips as he looked over at Jed. – I freed myself from words never said –
Jed’s eyes softened when Ben voiced that he didn’t want his family to feel like he wasn’t good enough for Jed. “Hey, look.” Jed’s hand reached out to grasp Ben’s hand in his own. Jed had been getting a lot more comfortable with public displays of affection and he knew that with time, he was going to be able to kiss Ben whenever and wherever the hell he wanted to. “I’ve been a lot happier ever since you and I got together. They can tell just how much you’ve changed me, Ben. Trust me, they know that you’re good enough for me.” Jed said with a soft smile tugging at the corner of his lips, his voice carrying a tender tone to it. “Good, because trust me, you’ve got nothing to worry about.” Jed said with a soft chuckle falling from his lips not long after. “You’ll see.” He added a moment later, knowing that his family was going to welcome Ben with open arms.
“Yeah,” Jed glanced around him with a soft smile tugging at the corner of his lips. He really did consider himself to be one of the lucky ones to have a family like this one. When Jed rushed to clarify what he meant when he said that out loud, Ben’s hand was then grasping his own which made him come to a stop and slowly, his eyes moved to settle on Ben’s, his lips stretching to form a soft and grateful smile. “I remember.” Jed’s voice was soft as he spoke, his smile still full of appreciation. “Hm.” Jed paused for a moment, but only so that he could concentrate long enough to hear if there were any movements in the house. “Actually, not yet. They’ll probably be home in ten?” Jed offered with a quick nod of his head following.
Jed chuckled when Ben told him that his room was perfect for him. “Guess you could say that.” He agreed with a lopsided grin resting on his lips. “Thanks.” Jed was pretty glad to hear that Ben was super understanding about the fact that his room was kinda messy. “Oh, uh…” Jed nodded his head. Right. They were here to study. “Totally. Let’s study.” Jed gestured for the desk that was facing the wall and placed down his books on top of it. He reached for the window to open the blinds to let in some sunlight while the sun was still up. “Let’s do this.” Jed said with a grin resting on his lips. He sat down not long after and willed himself not to get distracted as he flipped through his notebook, but somewhere in the midst of his studies, his hand brushed against Ben’s. “Sorry,” he apologised mainly because it was an accident. But then his attention drifted to Ben’s hand and he found himself overcome with the urge to hold it.
Oh god.
It was starting, wasn’t it?
Jed paid attention to the veins in Ben’s hand and bit down on his inner cheeks, willing himself not to get flustered from the sight of his veins alone. Dear god.
Jed blinked a few times and focused back on what he was currently doing. He cleared his throat and moved a little on his seat and managed to write one line down before his attention drifted to Ben’s side profile, watching him with a tender look on his face. Jed only seemed to snap out of it when his pen fell down on the floor. “Oh. Sorry.” His second apology in under five minutes. Nice. Jed leaned down to pick the pen up from the floor but it had rolled far enough that he needed to put his hand on something to keep himself from tipping forward and upon retrieving that stealthy pen, he came to the realisation that his hand was resting on Ben’s thigh.
Oh god.
“Sorry.” Third, Jed. Really? Jed cleared his throat and paid attention to his textbook again, murmuring something under his breath about being an idiot.

Ben knew that Jed wasn’t really comfortable with public displays of affection yet so he was surprised when Jed took his hand. He hadn’t known when they met just how new to all of this Jed was but Ben was more than happy to take things at a speed that Jed was comfortable with and Jed knew that. “You’ve changed me too. You’re in danger of making me a better person,” Ben admitted, a smile touching his lips as he lifted his gaze and let his eyes meet Jed’s. For a long time he had lived on the outskirts of society never really getting too involved with people, he had fought in the war because he had wanted some good to come of his life but otherwise he hadn’t really done much with the long life that he had been given. Now he wanted to do much better though and that was all thanks to Jed. Ben was happier than he had been for a long time and he knew that he didn’t want that to come to an end. “I’ll take your word for it,” Ben nodded, hoping that Jed was right. “It wouldn’t stop me wanting to be with you anyway, you’re worth it even if I have to earn their approval,” he added. No way was he giving up on what they had and he hoped that Jed wouldn’t either. It was a natural reaction for Ben to start looking around them once they were inside the house and he wanted nothing more than to reassure Jed when he clarified what he had meant. “It’s never going to change,” Ben assured him as Jed said that he remembered. He was never going to rush Jed into doing anything that he wasn’t ready for, that just wasn’t who Ben was. “Alright, we have some time then,” he nodded as Jed said that his family would probably be home in about ten minutes. Ben knew that he would still feel nervous when they did get there but he knew just how important this was to Jed so he knew that he wasn’t going to do anything to mess this up. Seeing Jed’s room for the first time was enough to make Ben’s smile return. It really was perfect for him and Ben could just see him spending his time there. It didn’t matter to him that it was a little messy, the last thing he wanted was for Jed to feel like he had to change for him. Ben liked him for who he was and he didn’t want anything about Jed to change. Sitting down by the desk, Ben pulled his books out of his bag and forced himself to focus on those rather than on Jed although it was difficult to say the least and that didn’t stop his arm from lightly nudging against Jed’s as he turned the page. Every so often he found himself stealing glances at Jed and he shook his head when Jed apologised as Jed’s hand brushed against his own. “You have nothing to apologise for,” Ben assured him, longing to reach over and take Jed’s hand in his to give it a gentle squeeze but instead clenching his other hand into a fist to distract him from that urge. Turning his attention back to his books, Ben didn’t even need to look over to know that Jed had stopped writing and that his eyes were fixed on him, he could already feel Jed’s gaze on him and it was enough to make him take a shaky breath to steady himself as he tried to focus on the book. It was taking everything he had not to turn and kiss Jed right now but he was trying his best to behave because he wanted so badly to keep his promise that they would take everything at his speed. The pen falling to the floor was enough to make Ben jump a little as he had been trying so hard to think about anything other than Jed but then Jed’s hand was on his leg and Ben’s breath caught in his throat. “It’s fine,” Ben assured him as he lifted his gaze to meet Jed’s before quickly looking away. As Jed said that he was an idiot, however, Ben closed his book and turned to look at Jed properly, this time not bothering to resist the urge and instead taking Jed’s hand and giving it a squeeze. “You are not an idiot,” Ben said sincerely as his eyes met Jed’s. “This is a lot more difficult than I ever thought it would be,” he admitted as he let go of Jed’s hand and turned back to his book, hating himself for breaking his promise to Jed of not distracting him too much even though he was pretty sure that it couldn’t be helped. Jed’s lips stretched to form a small smile as he listened to Ben before he nodded his head in an understanding manner before he offered his hand a gentle squeeze. It really did mean a lot to hear that there was no way that Ben was ever going to give up on him. Jed wasn’t worried at all about his family because he knew they would accept Ben with open arms. Maybe for Lizzie, she might take some time to open up to him, but he knew that she’d come around. Jed allowed himself a moment to really focus on his surroundings to see if he could pick up on any noises around him that would give away the fact that his family was back home, but he wasn’t able to pick on any, which gave away the fact that they weren’t home yet which gave them plenty of time to hang out together before they get back home. Maybe it also gave Ben the time he needed to mentally prepare himself.
Jed really had no idea it would be this distracting to study with Ben. He couldn’t keep his eyes to himself and apparently, he couldn’t keep his hands to himself either. Each time he apologized, Ben assured him it was fine which made his lips stretch to form a grateful smile, appreciative of the fact that Ben was so understanding. Jed tried his hardest to focus on his studies again, but it was still so difficult and when he mumbled something under his breath about being an idiot for continuously apologizing like that, his attention moved to Ben as his brows quirked up in surprise when he told him that he wasn’t an idiot. Jed’s lips parted and closed a few times before his lips stretched to form a grateful smile. He looked down at their hands before he gave Ben’s hand a squeeze of his own.
“Y–Yeah.” Hearing that it was difficult for Ben too made his heart skip a beat in the most pleasant way possible. He was pretty happy to hear that he had the same effect on Ben, too. “It really is.” Jed breathed out with a chuckle falling from his lips. His attention momentarily moved to his hand again, already missing the weight of Ben’s hand on top of his own. Oh how he would love to just reach out again and hold it in his own, but he had to at least pretend to pay attention to his studies.
Jed cleared his throat and moved a little on his seat to get comfortable before he picked up his pen again and began writing a few things. Though there was a moment where he purposefully brushed his pinky against Ben’s hand, his eyes slowly moving up to settle on Ben’s face. No apology left his lips this time around. If anything, there was a small smile on his lips as he brought his attention back to his book, though he didn’t move his hand away. A few more minutes of silence passed by and then Jed decided to break it. “I’m going to be completely honest with you and say that…” Jed placed his pen down and looked at Ben again. “I’ve read the same sentence like ten times and I’m pretty sure I still have no idea it’s even talking about.” He admitted with a chuckle falling from his lips. “Haven’t stopped thinking about kissing you ever since I sat down next to you, if I’m being honest with you.”

Ben had never been through the whole meet the parents thing, with Ashur it had been different as they had only ended up getting together after the guy’s dad had died, so he really wasn’t sure how it was supposed to go but he knew that he wanted to make it work for Jed. This wasn’t just a one night stand for Ben like all of the others had been, for the first time he had found someone he genuinely cared about and he wanted to do right by Jed. There was so much that they still had to figure out but Ben was confident that they would be able to do just that in time. Until then they would just carry on taking things at a speed that they were both comfortable with and that was fine with Ben. He wasn’t in any rush at all and if he was honest he was just enjoying being able to spend time with Jed right now so anything else could wait. Ben knew that Jed was right, he needed to stop worrying and trust that everything would be fine because chances were that it would be. He had already met some of Jed’s family and Josie at least was a friend while Dr Saltzman had agreed to let him stay at the Salvatore School so it would be fine and if not then he would keep trying to convince them until they saw that he was right for Jed. For now they were meant to be focusing on studying but the truth was that that was a lot easier said than done. Each time Jed apologised Ben assured him that he didn’t need to and he meant every word. This was new to both of them and they really did have good intentions but the truth was that it wasn’t easy to focus on studying at all and it was natural for Ben to tell Jed that he wasn’t being an idiot when he accused himself of it but he still meant it and a smile touched Ben’s lips as Jed squeezed his hand in return. This was new for both of them and he knew that it would take them time to find their feet but until then all they could do was try. “Hopefully it’ll get easier,” Ben admitted. Right now being so close to Jed and having to focus on something else was agonising and he was pretty sure that it was the same for Jed. Ben really couldn’t remember ever going through this before but the truth was that studying was the last thing on his hand right now although he still kept trying to make himself focus on the task at hand rather than the way he missed the feeling of Jed’s hand against his own. A few minutes later Jed’s finger brushed against his hand and Ben felt a smile touch his lips as this time no apology came. Instead he glanced over at Jed out of the corner of his eye and realised that Jed was looking at him too. Without even thinking about it he looped his little finger around Jed’s, the small point of contact enough to make warmth spread through him, and Ben really did try to focus on the book that was lying open in front of him but he just couldn’t bring himself to do it so he was relieved when Jed broke the silence. “Good because I thought I was the only one who was having that problem,” Ben laughed. “I don’t even know what subject it is I’m trying to work through at the moment,” he added with a grin as he closed the book and turned to look at Jed properly. “To be honest I’ve been thinking about the same thing. It’s agonising,” he admitted, his eyes drifting down to linger on Jed’s lips for a moment as he licked his own quickly without even thinking about it . “Perhaps it’s time to stop thinking about it and just go for it,” he suggested as his eyes met Jed’s, staying where he was for a moment until Jed was ready since he didn’t want to hurry him. Good because I thought I was the only one who was having that problem, I don’t even know what subject it is I’m trying to work through at the moment,
Jed let out a chuckle when he processed Ben's words and soon came to the realization that Ben had barely been paying any attention to his own studies. "We are terrible at this." Jed said with a grin resting on his lips and honestly? He wasn't at all surprised. Jed was practically like a lovesick puppy around Ben, he couldn't focus on anything other than him. His eyes had constantly moved to Ben, he had found himself constantly watching him because the concept of moving his eyes away from Ben was non-existent, really. Jed continued to laugh at Ben's next words before he nodded his head in a sympathetic manner. "Honestly? Me neither." Jed had never been more out of the loop with his studies than what he was feeling right now. He really couldn't help it, though.
To be honest I’ve been thinking about the same thing. It’s agonising, Perhaps it’s time to stop thinking about it and just go for it,
Jed's eyes widened slightly when he heard that Ben had been thinking about the same thing as him. His eyes moved to settle on Ben's lips when he licked his lips and immediately, the desire to kiss him burned hotter within him. Jed gulped past the lump in his throat and slowly, his eyes moved back up to look at Ben. "Next time, you don't have to just think about it. You can kiss me whenever you want, you know that, right? I want you to." Jed admitted in a soft voice. "It won't mean that you're rushing me or anything like that.' Jed clarified a moment or so later and then when Ben encouraged him to kiss him, Jed's eyes moved to settle on his lips again and this time, he didn't want for long.
Jed leaned forward and closed the gap between their lips and pressed his lips against Ben's, humming softly against his lips. Jed leaned away for a moment, but it was only so that he could turn and face Ben better. He abandoned his studies and instead cupped Ben's cheeks and brought him forward into yet another kiss. Studying be damned, he wanted to make out with Ben instead.

Ben knew that he was meant to be focusing on his studies right now but the truth was that he just couldn’t bring himself to do it. He knew that Jed had the excuse of being a teenager to fall back on but it had been thousands of years since Ben had been one of those so he knew that he couldn’t use the same excuse. That didn’t stop being around Jed from being distracting, though, and Ben wasn’t sure that was ever going to stop. He had never experienced this before and a part of him wondered if it was because he had been on his own for such a long time but either way the truth was that whenever he was around Jed he just couldn’t stop thinking about him. “We really are,” he chuckled. “We’re going to have to find a way to work this out at some point because I meant it when I said I wasn’t going to let you fall behind in your studies because of me but perhaps we should go for baby steps instead,” he suggested. Trying to study in Jed’s bedroom perhaps wasn’t the best idea they’d ever had but their intentions had been good at least. As Jed said he didn’t know what subject he was working on either, Ben couldn’t help but laugh. “Sounds like we should probably give this up for today,” he grinned, knowing that one day wouldn’t hurt but that they really would have to figure something out moving forward. Ever since they got together Ben had been trying so hard to be good but the moment Jed said that he hadn’t been able to stop thinking about kissing him since they sat down Ben knew that he had to be honest in return. He was so focused on making sure that Jed didn’t feel like he was rushing him that he kept on holding back but Jed’s words were enough to bring a smile to Ben’s lips and he realised that he needed to start learning to relax more around Jed and just be himself. “I know you’re not comfortable with public displays of affection so I didn’t want to make you feel uncomfortable,” he said gently. “You might want to be careful what you wish for because I think about kissing you a lot,” he admitted, unable to stop his eyes from drifting down to Jed’s lips once more. It wasn’t long before Jed was closing the gap between them and Ben sighed into the kiss as their lips met. As Jed moved closer and cupped his cheeks, Ben leaned in closer and let one hand rest on Jed’s thigh while the other found his waist as they kissed, everything else around them melting away as he lost himself in the feeling of Jed’s lips against his own. Jed let out chuckle as he listened to Ben before he nodded his head. “Yeah, we’ll have to figure something out. Maybe we can have someone else study with us. The chances of you and I behaving are a lot higher when we’ve got someone between us.” Jed suggested with a chuckle falling from his lips not long after. His attention moved back to his books before he nodded his head in agreement with Ben. “We really should, yeah.” Jed admitted with a shrug of his shoulders following. “We’ve still got time ahead of us before our exams. We can study some other time.” Jed didn’t seem all too bothered about flunking this study session. They can always try to study, later on, they still had some time. Plus, he didn’t mind it at all because it meant spending more time with Ben and how could he not like that?
Jed was quiet as he listened to Ben, his head tilted slightly to the side before his lips stretched to form a soft smile. “I’m not uncomfortable, I’m just— shy, I guess.” Jed’s shoulders lifted and dropped in a quick shrug. “But it’s definitely not discomfort. I’d tell you if I did.” He assured him with a soft smile resting on his lips. “Oh, then, please… Do kiss me a lot.” Jed said with a grin forming on his lips before he finally connected their lips with one another.
The feeling of Ben’s hand on his thigh sent sparks through him. A soft gasp escaped his lips into the kiss as he brought himself closer to Ben, closing any sort of distance between their bodies as he allowed himself to savor the taste of Ben’s lips. Jed leaned away from the kiss slowly, his chest rising and falling rapidly as he allowed himself a few moments to breathe properly. He opened his eyes and allowed them to relax on Ben again, watching him with a certain softness in his gaze but there was something else in there that showed how much he actually craved Ben. Jed’s thumb gently stroked Ben’s cheek, watching him with a soft smile resting on his lips. “Okay, we have two options. We could make out, or we could go downstairs and watch a movie. Take your pick.” Jed momentarily caught his bottom lip between his teeth after making his offer, his eyes focused on Ben still.

“I think that’s probably what we’ll have to do. Maybe form a little group so we don’t end up being left alone while we’re trying to study,” Ben chuckled, knowing that it was probably the only way that they were going to end up being able to get anything done. He knew that it shouldn’t be that way, they should be able to be around each other without getting distracted like this, but right now it was the best they could come up with so he knew that they would have to make it work. Ben had never really paid too much attention to the way the world was changing around him because he had known that it would only change again in the future but now he was building a life for himself in Mystic Falls and that meant doing things that he normally wouldn’t do like studying. “I was hoping you would say that,” he admitted, a smile touching his lips as he looked over at Jed. It really was a lost cause trying to study right now so Ben was more than happy to put that on the backburner for the time being. “I’m glad,” he said gently as Jed said that he would tell him if he felt uncomfortable. “I can understand why you’re shy about it, I’m still getting used to it as well,” he admitted. Back in the time Ben grew up in the fact that he and Ashur were together never would have been accepted by those around them so they’d kept it a secret. The world had moved on so much since then and most people were a lot more open minded now but it was still taking Ben some time to get his head around that. As Jed spoke again, Ben couldn’t help but laugh. “Don’t worry, I will,” he chuckled, knowing that there really wasn’t anything stopping him now. The gasp that escaped Jed’s lips was unexpected and for a moment Ben wondered if he had done something wrong but then Jed was moving closer still and he realised that Jed really did want this just as much as he did. They only broke apart when they needed to catch their breath and Ben’s heart was pounding in his chest as his eyes met Jed’s. There was a look in Jed’s eyes now, one that hadn’t been there before, and Ben wasn’t too sure what it was but he knew that he liked it. Leaning into Jed’s touch as his thumb moved over his cheek, Ben’s expression softened at Jed’s next words. “Is that a trick question?” he asked as he turned his head and kissed Jed’s palm gently. “I’d choose making out with you every time.” There wasn’t a doubt in his mind about that but he knew that they wouldn’t be able to stay there all day no matter how much they might want to. “We probably should show our faces soon though, I imagine it won’t be long before your family gets home,” he added, remembering Jed’s earlier words. – I freed myself from words never said –
“Oh, yeah. That would definitely work. There’s nothing I love more than being blocked by my own friends.” Jed said with a brief chuckle falling from his lips. It would definitely get them to behave and actually focus on their studies. He really wanted Ben to pass through his exams, so he was definitely going to behave himself. Just... Not right now. Right now, he wanted to be distracted by Ben. He wanted to appreciate just how handsome his boyfriend was. God, the fact that he could call him his boyfriend now really didn't feel real for him. But it was the truth. Ben was his boyfriend. It made him feel giddy just thinking about it, really.
"If romantic movies ever taught me something, it was that lack of communication ruined relationships and I'd rather avoid that. So, if I ever feel uncomfortable, I'll tell you and if you ever feel uncomfortable, tell me, okay? No hard feelings." Jed pointed out with a quick nod of his head. It was why Jenna and Alaric were doing so well together, too. They were always so open with each other, never hiding anything from each other. Jed wanted to do the same with Ben. Jed's eyes softened when Ben told him that he was still getting used to it as well. "That's comforting to hear." It wasn't a sarcastic sentence but a genuine one. He really was glad to hear that he wasn't the only one trying to get used to all of this. There was a beaming grin that formed on his lips almost instantly when Ben told him that he will kiss him a lot. "Can't wait." Jed said with a chuckle falling from his lips, unable to deny the fact that just thinking about kissing Ben made his heartbeat stutter. Oh boy. He really was whipped, wasn't he?
Jed watched the way Ben left a kiss on the palm of his hand and yup, he was feeling floaty all over again. There were sparks all over and he was pretty sure if this were a cartoon or a coming-of-age movie, there would be fireworks going off on top of his head because there was something so soft and tender about the way Ben kissed the palm of his hand. It was such a romantic move that he had only seen in romantic movies and never thought would actually happen to him.
Jed's eyes moved up from Ben's lips (oh wow, when did he even look down at them?) and tilted his head slightly when Ben asked if it was a trick question. "Nope." He answered, popping the 'p'. "Genuine curiosity." Jed added a moment later before his lips stretched into a shy smile when he heard that Ben would choose to make out with him every time. His heart was pumping so hard and so loud that he could almost hear it. "God, you have a way with words that drives me crazy." Jed admitted, sounding breathless like he had just finished running an entire marathon. "Yeah, we can go soon." Jed nodded his head a few times before his attention momentarily drifted to his bed. "Do you wanna maybe move this to my bed? Fewer restrictions over there and all. Fewer chances of us developing a nasty kink in our necks or something."

"I thought you might say that," Ben chuckled. "Normally I would say to just forget studying altogether because I love being distracted by you but I made you a promise and I intend on sticking to it," he added. He knew that it would be so easy to just continue being distracted by Jed and forget about everything else but Ben knew that he wouldn't be able to forgive himself if he ended up being the reason why Jed ended up falling behind in his schoolwork so he knew that studying with others was something that they were both going to have to put up with and then they could have more days like this. That wasn't something that Ben was going to worry about too much that day though, after all it was only one day and he knew that they could both survive being distracted for just one day. As Jed spoke again, Ben knew that he was right. Ben would be the first to admit that he had very little experience with being in a relationship, he had only ever been in one and that had ended five thousand years ago, and he had even less experience when it came to romantic movies but he knew that there was logic in what Jed was saying and it was enough to make Ben nod. "Deal although I don't know that you could ever make me feel uncomfortable," he said gently. The truth was that he always felt like he could be himself around Jed without any judgement and that was something that he hadn't really had since he lost Ashur. He had only had one real friend after that and she had died a long time ago just like everyone else he had ever known. "It's the truth," Ben assured him gently. "The last time I was in a relationship I had to keep it a secret because no one would have understood back then. Things have changed so much since then and that's a good thing, it just takes some getting used to," he admitted. "I never thought I would feel about anyone the way I feel about you and be able to say that out loud not just to you but to the people in your life too." There were times when Ben couldn't help but feel like he wanted to shout it from the rooftops but he knew that he would just have to settle for not having to hide the way that he felt about Jed instead. As Jed said he couldn't wait for Ben to kiss him, Ben couldn't stop a smile from touching his lips as he leaned forward and kissed Jed. "How's that to start with?" he asked gently, knowing that he was never going to get tired of the feeling of Jed's lips against his own. Ben knew that kissing Jed's palm was perhaps a cheesy gesture but he couldn't help it. He really had never felt like this before and he knew that Jed already had a talent for bringing out a side of him that no one else ever had. Ben wasn't used to being a friend to people let alone a boyfriend, he was used to keeping his distance from others but if being around Jed had taught him one thing it was that he had been existing all these years but he hadn't really been living. He had been keeping his distance from everyone because he had thought that it was for the best but he knew now that he had been wrong. Jed had made him see the error of his ways and Ben knew that he had people in his life worth fighting for now. He had meant it when he'd said that Jed was in danger of making him a better person but the truth was that he wouldn't want it any other way. The answer to Jed's question should have been obvious but Ben knew that he had to say it anyway. He had no idea what movie Jed had been thinking about putting on but Ben was certain that he would choose Jed every time anyway regardless of what the alternative was. "It's never on purpose, with you I know to just tell you the truth," he said gently as he brought his hand up and let it run lightly down Jed's cheek. Ben knew that he didn't have to hide anything from Jed, he was the one person he could be completely honest with and that was something that Ben had missed so much more than he had realised. Nodding as Jed said that they could go soon, Ben really didn't want to leave the confines of Jed's room but he knew that they couldn't stay there all day anyway. Jed's suggestion that they move over to the bed for now was enough to have Ben's eyes widening in surprise as they met Jed's and he felt his cheeks flush a little red. "I'd like that if you're sure," he admitted as he got to his feets and held both hands out to Jed to help him to his feet as well. JED SALTZMAN

– I freed myself from words never said –
Jed chuckled at Ben's words, his eyes relaxing on him again. "Honestly, I wanna abandon all of it too and just focus on you but you're right, we made a promise and we need to stick with it. There's nothing worse than re-taking exams." He pointed out with a quick nod of his head following. "Especially when your friends have passed their exams. Then you're stuck in the summer studying and there's no fun in that." Jed added a moment later, his eyes resting on Ben once again with a soft smile resting on his lips. "And I'd much rather spend my summer with you."
Jed's lips stretched to form a genuine smile as he listened to Ben. His softened gaze was focused solely on the man. "Then, you know exactly how I feel, too." He really doubted that Ben was ever capable of making him uncomfortable. Jed was quiet as he listened to Ben, his head tilted slightly to the side. "It must have been difficult back then. I'm lucky that my time is different, for sure. People are a lot more comfortable expressing their sexuality nowadays and it's really nice to see." Jed said with a quick nod of his head following, his lips stretching to form a soft smile. "Take all the time you need to get used to it. No rush from my end." Jed assured him in a soft voice. Ben's next words made his heart skip a beat as a smile immediately formed on his lips, his hand giving Ben's a gentle squeeze.
"Me neither, Ben. Honestly. I never thought I'd be this crazy about someone until I met you." Jed really did feel lucky to have met someone like Ben. Being with him really did make Jed want to become a better person. Jed was pretty sure that he was seconds away from melting against Ben's lips when Ben leaned forward and closed the gap between them to kiss him before he leaned back to ask him a question that Jed took a few seconds to process as he blinked a few times. "That was, uh, that was a great start, yeah." Jed admitted in a breathless tone of his voice as he released an equally as breathless laugh.
Jed's lips stretched to form a soft smile before he nodded his head a few times. "I know. I know, and that's the part that drives me crazy. You're just speaking from your heart." How did he get this lucky, really? Usually, luck tended to avoid him altogether, but now... Now it felt like the stars had finally aligned in his favor. There was a blush on Ben's cheeks and it was the most endearing thing ever but it was also that very same blush that made him realize the implication in his words and this time, he didn't rush to explain or apologize. If anything, he reached out for Ben's hands and let Ben help him to his feet as well. He released only one hand of Ben's and kept the other one held tightly as he began moving toward the bed, guiding Ben to sit next to him before he cleared his throat and turned to look at Ben, his hands suddenly feeling incredibly sweaty. Jed was anxious, but it wasn't exactly a bad thing. He slowly moved his free hand to rest it on Ben's cheek, staring up into his bright eyes for a few moments before he closed the distance between their lips to kiss Ben again, his heart skipping a beat at the fact that they were making out on his bed. His hand moved from Ben's cheek to the back of his neck as he gently tilted his own head to kiss Ben at a better angle and also used that hand to bring Ben closer to himself as he kissed Ben passionately.

“I’ll take your word for that but something tells me your family really won’t like me if I’m the reason you fail the year,” Ben chuckled. He knew that he would never let that happen, he wanted Jed to do well and he didn’t doubt that the guy’s family did as well. As Jed said that he would much rather spend his summer with him, Ben felt a smile touch his lips. “I’d rather spend my summer with you as well,” he agreed, knowing that some uninterrupted time with Jed wasn’t something that he would want to pass up. “What do you normally do over the summer?” he asked, unable to deny that he was curious. Ben had never had anything to really occupy his time before like he now did with school other than when he was fighting in the war but he couldn’t deny that it was making him enjoy the free time he was able to have now that much more. “You mean that?” Ben asked as Jed said that he knew how he felt. He always worried he might say or do the wrong thing and make Jed feel uncomfortable. That was the last thing that he wanted so he was trying to be so careful but deep down he knew that he needed to just relax and enjoy this while he could. “It is. I never thought I would see the day but I’m glad things are different now because otherwise you and I might not be here like this now.” Ben had never tried to hide the way that he felt about Jed but it was only because things had moved on so much that and it was that knowledge and seeing how receptive, albeit shy, that Jed was that had given him the courage to be as open as he had been. Jed had never seemed bothered by it at all, in fact he had seemed to take it all in his stride and now things were so much better than Ben ever could have hoped for. “I’m so glad you figured out how you feel,” he added gently. He knew that it hadn’t been easy for Jed at first, that was clear from the way he’d taken time off school as he tried to get his head around it, but that uncertainty seemed gone in Jed now and for that he really was glad. “I don’t think I need any more time, I feel like I want to tell the world that I’m with you because it makes me the luckiest guy.” He really did feel like he was lucky that Jed had decided to take a chance on him and let him in and he knew that he didn’t want to hide that from anyone. Hearing that Jed never thought he’d be this crazy about anyone was enough to make Ben’s heart skip a beat, he really didn’t know what he had done to deserve Jed feeling this way about him but he knew that he didn’t want to take it for granted. Ben knew that he had a habit of making rash decisions but he really did want it to be different this time and he would do anything to make this work. It wasn’t long before his lips were pressed against Jed’s and Ben let himself relax into the kiss. Normally he let Jed initiate it when he was ready since Ben never wanted to overwhelm him but now he knew that Jed was okay with it being the other way around then it really did feel great to be able to kiss Jed whenever he got the urge to. “I think I could get used to that,” Ben said, a smile touching his lips as he looked over at Jed. “Would you rather I stop?” Ben teased, pretty sure that he already knew what the answer was going to be. Jed knew how to drive him just as crazy but that was something that he was definitely getting used to. He really hadn’t thought that he would find anyone else after losing Ashur, in all the years that Ben had spent travelling the world he’d had the odd one night stand but that had been it. He hadn’t found anyone that he really felt comfortable with to want to be in a relationship with like this, no one had ever captured his attention the way that Jed had and he had honestly started to wonder if anything ever would. Ever since that very first day he had felt drawn to Jed and now Ben finally had someone in his life that he truly cared about and he would do everything in his power to keep Jed in his life. Helping Jed to his feet, Ben followed him over to the bed and sat down, his free hand finding the back of Jed’s neck as their lips connected once more and Ben poured everything that he had into it, this time not holding anything back.
