– I freed myself from words never said –
Jed laughed as he listened to Ben point out that his family won't like Ben if he was the reason that Jed had to repeat the year. "You... have got a point there." Jed said with a grin on his lips. "This just become my new motivation to study well. Can't have my family not liking you." Jed felt a soft smile form on his lips when Ben told him that he would rather spend his summer with him. It definitely offered him the reassurance that he wanted to hear deep down. "Well, last summer I went hiking? I really don't recommend that, though. I got stung by a bee and it wasn't a fun experience. I did get my ankle twisted while I was running from said bee, but that thing was vicious. Managed to catch up with no issues." Jed said with a chuckle falling from his lips, really thankful for his supernatural healing, or else he would have spent weeks limping. "We could go on a legit vacation this summer. The whole beach experience and all, if you want. I haven't also seen the beach in a hot minute."
Jed nodded his head almost immediately. "Yeah, I really do." He listened to Ben with a soft smile on his lips as he nodded his head in agreement. "You're right. I'm really glad, too." They would have had to suppress their emotions, or lie to themselves or those around them. They would have suffered. Jed was pleased that the world had changed for the better in that perspective. "Me too, Ben." Jed said in a soft voice, his softened gaze focused solely on the other. He was really glad that he had figured out his own emotions too. He was glad they were able to sit like this and have a heart-to-heart talk. Jed's lips stretched into a shy smile which turned into a grin as he nudged Ben gently. "God, stop." Jed breathed out, unable to deny the fact that his cheeks were emitting so much heat now. "Being with you really does make me feel like I'm the luckiest guy, too." Jed admitted as he pushed past the shyness that he was feeling.
"Well then, I certainly won't complain if you do get used to it." Jed said with a chuckle falling from his lips as he momentarily glanced down at Ben's lips before he met his eyes again. Jed rolled his eyes fondly at Ben's teasing comment. "If you stop, we're gonna have a big problem." Jed joked with a grin forming on his lips not long after.
Jed allowed himself to sink into the kiss, enjoying the feeling of Ben's lips against his own. It was nothing short of addictive. Jed allowed his hand to move from the back of Ben's neck to rest on his shoulder at first before moving down his arm which was pretty much a big mistake because he could feel Ben's muscles under his fingertips and oh boy did it make Jed's heart jump. Jed brought Ben even closer to himself, the kiss growing intense with each glide of their lips as his hand eventually released Ben's hand (much to his own dismay) and instead moved to rest on Ben's thigh. Their little session was interrupted when he heard the door open and close downstairs, his supernatural hearing picking up on it with ease. Jed slowly leaned back, his lips tingling pleasantly. "Uh, they're..." Jed cleared his throat when he realized just how weak he sounded. "They're home now. We should probably, um..." Jed made a gesture for the door to deliver a point. Jed looked down at Ben's lips again and soon found himself leaning forward again to reconnect their lips, his fingers fisting in Ben's shirt to bring him forward as well to meet each other in the middle.

“I think that’s something we can agree on,” Ben chuckled. He really didn’t want to give Jed’s any reason not to like him so being the reason he failed the year just wasn’t an option. Ben knew just how much hard work Jed had been putting into his studies anyway so the last thing he wanted was to end up undoing all of that hard work so they were definitely going to have to try and figure something out even if it meant getting their friends involved. “Can’t have you throwing away all the hard work you’ve been doing.” Ben knew that Jed didn’t always think very highly of himself but Ben could tell just how hard Jed had been trying to keep on top of his schoolwork until now so he knew that he wasn’t going to derail that. As Jed explained about last summer, Ben couldn’t help but laugh. “Don’t tell me the big strong Alpha was beat by a bee?” he teased, his smile playful as he looked over at Jed. “Looks like whatever we do we’ll have to make sure there aren’t any bees involved,” he said, unable to stop a grin from forming on his face as he pictured what Jed had just described. As Jed suggested they go on a proper vacation that summer, Ben’s expression softened considerably. “I’d really like that,” he admitted. “I haven’t been to the beach in a long time, the last time I ended up being devoured by a kraken. It would be good to replace that with some good memories,” he added thoughtfully. That really wasn’t fun and it was why he hadn’t gone back since but things were different now and he hoped that the experience would be different as well regardless of whether or not they were able to find a way to break the curse. Hearing Jed say he meant what he’d said was enough to have Ben already starting to feel much more relaxed than he had been before. “Alright then, I’ll stop worrying I’m going to make you feel uncomfortable and just enjoy this,” he said decisively. That was what he had wanted so much but he had needed to hear that Jed didn’t think there was anything he could do to make him feel uncomfortable before he truly let himself start to let go of that fear. “I’m glad you didn’t have to go through any of that,” Ben admitted gently. He could still remember just how confusing it all was back then and it hadn’t been made any easier by the fact that he hadn’t been able to talk to anyone about it. Thankfully Jed didn’t have to worry about that and Ben truly was grateful for that. Ben had never thought that he would find anything like this when he’d arrived in Mystic Falls, in fact he had never thought that he would find this anywhere. It was scary just how much the right person could change everything, though, and Ben was certain that Jed was the right person for him. Hearing Jed tell him to stop was enough to make Ben’s smile return as he brought up and ran the backs of his fingers lightly down Jed’s cheek. “Now I know you don’t mean that,” he grinned before nudging Jed’s arm with his own as Jed told him to stop before speaking again, his latest words making Ben’s own cheeks flush red in response. “You’re far too good to be true,” he breathed. He had waited his whole life to find someone who could affect him like this and he had honestly given up hope but here Jed was saying and doing all of the right things and each time Ben felt his heart melt a little more. “Good because I’m pretty sure I’m already addicted to kissing you,” Ben chuckled. He had kissed others in the past but with Jed it was like the floodgates had been opened ever since that very first kiss. Now kissing Jed was something that eh thought about a lot and it was something that he knew he would never grow tired of. Ben hadn’t been able to resist teasing Jed as the guy said that the way he said things drove him crazy and Ben let his forehead rest against Jed’s for a moment as he said that they were going to have a big problem if he stopped. “Looks like you’re going to have to put up with me driving you crazy then,” he grinned. “I guess it’s only fair since you drive me crazy all the time.”Even with Ashur, Ben had never been able to lose himself in a kiss like he was able to do with Jed. Now he didn’t have to worry about what would happen if anyone saw him kissing another guy and it was liberating to say the least. All that mattered in that moment was the feeling of Jed’s lips against his own and he felt his heart start to race as Jed’s hand began moving from his neck to his shoulder and then down his arm. The path Jed’s hand traced was so light and methodical and Ben moved his own hands slowly down Jed’s back, not offering any resistance as Jed drew him closer still. Ben didn’t have supernatural hearing like Jed did but even he was able to hear the door closing downstairs and he groaned as Jed leaned back. Ben had known that they would have to head downstairs at some point but he couldn’t deny that he was disappointed as Jed said that they should probably go. Moments later Jed’s lips were on his once more, though, and Ben kissed him back passionately, only reluctantly pulling back when he heard Jed’s name being called. “Now we’d better go, I don’t want you getting into trouble for ignoring them,” he sighed, using every ounce of willpower he had not to kiss Jed again. – I freed myself from words never said –
Jed felt a soft smile form on his lips because once again, Ben was showing him just how much he believed in him and it really did mean a lot to him. "You've been working pretty hard too. It can't be easy learning all that stuff. Someone else would've quit already, but not you." Jed gave him a gentle nudge after saying that, his lips stretching to form a genuine smile. Jed released a mock offended gasp when Ben teased him about being beat by a bee. "Hey, that thing can fly, it had a big advantage." Jed pointed out with a fond roll of his eyes following. "How merciful of you, thank you." Jed teased with a chuckle following not long after. Jed blinked a few times as he slowly processed Ben's words before he leaned back on his seat with a surprised look on his face. "Okay, you did not just say that with a straight face. Krakens exist? Man, that's so cool." Jed breathed out before he quickly shook his head. "Of course, the part where you got eaten wasn't fun. But it's just... wow." Jed knew one person who would get all excited about that and it was definitely Landon. "Then, we'll replace that terrible memory with good ones. After we find a way to break your curse or at least stop the monsters from coming after you." Jed said with a quick nod of his head following.
Jed's lips immediately stretched into a grin. "Good. No more worrying." He seemed definitely pleased by Ben's decisive answer. "Me too." Jed would have probably witnessed it first-hand with his father who would have pushed him to suppress those feelings for other men but that man was long gone now. "Wow, so you're just gonna see right through me like that, huh? That's not fair, you know." Jed said with a chuckle falling from his lips not long after. "I don't mean to fire it back at you, but I'm pretty sure that you are far too good to be true."
"That's exactly how I feel about kissing you, too. I'm pretty sure I'm already addicted to it." Jed admitted in a soft voice, his eyes focused solely on Ben as he listened to him, his lips stretching to form a grin almost immediately. He drove Ben crazy too, huh? God, Ben really was going to be the end of him. There was just something about him that drove Jed crazy. He spent most nights awake and thinking about him. It was ... exciting. Incredibly so.
Jed didn't want to stop kissing Ben and it was clear from the groan that he let out when Ben leaned back. Jed had barely even picked up on his name being called from downstairs, that's how much Ben distracted him. Jed blinked a few times to snap out of his daze before he wiped the edge of his lips. "Oh, yeah. Uh. Yeah. Let's go." Jed finally pushed himself up from his bed before he could do something stupid like pull Ben for yet another kiss. "C'mon, let's say hi." Jed held out his hand and guided Ben out of his bedroom not long after. "Don't worry, okay? I'm gonna be right there with you. You can give me like, a secret nudge if it gets too much, yeah?" Jed said with a quick nod of his head following before he eventually made his way downstairs.
"Hey guys, welcome back." Jed greeted with a soft smile resting on his lips. "This is Ben. My boyfriend." Jed was pretty sure that Ric knew who he was, same with Josie, and he also knew that Jenna had pretty much heard of him already. "Ben hasn't seen any movies yet, so I thought I could bring him by and introduce him to all the classics."
Jed watched the way there was already a smile on Jenna's lips as she stepped forward. "You're the infamous Ben that I've heard so much about! I'm sorry I wasn't able to say hi to you a lot sooner. But it's really great to finally meet you, sweetheart. You know, Jed talks about you all the time. The first couple of weeks you arrived at the school, he would stay up late looking up things about nephilims and angels. Pretty sure I saw him google stuff about punching angels." Jenna said with a grin forming on her lips before she glanced at Jed who had a look that resembled a deer caught in the headlights. "You're staying over for dinner, right? Please say yes, I've been dying to cook you something ever since Jed started talking about you."

"I have someone I want to impress so it's worth putting in the work," Ben admitted. Jed had welcomed him into not just his school but his life as well and that was something that no one had ever done for him before. Jed really had taken a chance on him and Ben was so grateful to him for that. "Besides, one thing you'll learn about me is that I'm not a quitter," he added with a smile. He knew that to an extent some might see the fact that he had stopped fighting as him giving up but it was just a way of stopping the pain from being worse than it would be if he just accepted his fate. The way Jed gasped as he teased him about the bee was enough to have Ben laughing and he gave Jed's thigh a gentle squeeze. "Oh, I know it did," he chuckled as Jed said the bee had the advantage. He really could just picture Jed trying to get away from it and it was amusing to say the least. "You weren't phased at all when I told you monsters would be coming after me but a bee is a different story. Don't worry, I'll protect you," Ben assured him with a smile as he leaned forward and pressed a light kiss to Jed's lips. "I don't know if there are still any around now but there used to be. There are a lot of creatures out there that most people never thought really existed," he shrugged. He could definitely understand why Jed was surprised, Ben had come across a lot of creatures that wanted to kill him over the years so he honestly hoped that he would have the chance to replace the bad memories with some good ones. "I can't wait," he admitted as Jed agreed that they could make some good memories. There really wasn't anything that he would like more. "Agreed," he nodded, glad that Jed seemed pleased that he was going to try not to worry any longer. This was still all so new to Ben but he really couldn't get enough of being around Jed and he was pretty sure that was never going to change so he knew that the last thing he wanted was to do anything to jeopardise what they had. "I like this version of you, you're free to be yourself with a family that loves and supports you," he said, bringing his hand up and letting it rest lightly against Jed's cheek. He knew that it would have been a completely different story if Jed had continued to be raised by his father so he knew that some good had come out of the awful situation that Jed's father had put him in at least. "You see right through me when I'm worrying so I think it's completely fair," he chuckled. Jed really did have a talent for seeing through his insecure moments so he knew that it was only fair. As Jed spoke again and returned his words, Ben felt a smile touch his lips even as his cheeks flush red. "Don't worry, I'll let you off," he chuckled, unable to ignore the way his heart started to race as his eyes met Jed's. "I've never felt like this before," Ben admitted. It was true that he had loved Ashur once but that was such a long time ago and the feelings he had for Jed now were so much stronger than he remembered his feelings for Ashur ever being. Ben would be lying if he said that didn't scare him as it meant that he now had someone he couldn't stand the thought of losing but Ben knew that he wouldn't want to give this feeling up for anything in the world. Jed really did drive him crazy and that was something that Ben was definitely getting used to. Ben didn't want to stop kissing Jed, in fact that was the last thing he wanted, but he knew that he had no choice. He needed Jed's family to like him so keeping Jed away from them when they were calling out for him definitely wasn't an option. "Alright," he nodded as Jed said they should say hi. He still felt a little nervous about it but he knew just how important this was to Jed so he wanted to make a good impression on them. Taking Jed's outstretched hand, Ben felt his smile return as he followed Jed out of the room. "Don't worry about me, I've handled being surrounded by all of the students at the school so I can handle meeting your family," Ben assured him as he gave Jed's hand a light squeeze. He was still nervous but that was because Jed meant so much to him and he knew that he didn't want to give them any reason to think that he wasn't good enough for Jed. He knew that it wouldn't stop him from wanting to be with Jed anyway and if he had to earn their trust then he knew there was no way he would give up on that because there was no way he would give up on Jed. Following Jed downstairs, Ben felt his cheeks flush red as Jed introduced him as his boyfriend. He hadn't known whether Jed had told them that much or not but he didn't seem to want to hide it and that meant the world to Ben. "Hi," he said, offering them all a smile as Josie pulled him into a quick hug and told him quietly not to be nervous and that he was going to do great. "Thanks Josie," he breathed. She had become a friend to him during the last few weeks and he knew that Dr Saltzman had approved him staying at the school when Jed had asked him but they had never actually talked properly and he hadn't had the chance to meet Jed's mom yet either. "That's a great idea, what are you starting with?" Josie asked as she took a few steps back. Jenna stepped forward next and she was already smiling too which helped Ben feel at ease a little more. "It's fine, I know you're all busy," Ben assured her, his smile turning to a warm one as she spoke again. "It's great to finally meet you too Mrs Saltzman, I've heard so much about all of you," he nodded as his gaze drifted from her to Dr Saltzman and back again. "It's good to see you again too Dr Saltzman. You all did such a great thing taking Jed in the way you did." They really had gone above and beyond for Jed and Ben was grateful to them for that. "Thank you. It's good to see you too Ben but please, call me Ric." That was enough to have Ben nodding and he knew that he would have to try and remember that. As Jenna spoke again, Ben felt his smile return. "Is that so?" he asked, turning his grin on Jed as he hadn't realised that he had done that for him. Seeing the look on Jed's face was enough to have Ben's expression softening as he gave Jed's hand a gentle squeeze. "You don't need to be embarrassed, it's really sweet of you," Ben assured him, hoping to make Jed feel a little more at ease. As Jenna asked if he would stay over for dinner, Ben felt his smile return. "If it's okay with Jed and with all of you and it wouldn't be too much trouble I would love to. Jed has been raving about your cooking Mrs Saltzman," he said, his smile widening as he caught the look of pride on Dr Saltzman's face as he looked at his wife. "We'd love to have you stay. It's clear how happy you make Jed so it will give us the chance to get to know you better," Dr Saltzman nodded and Josie quickly nodded her agreement too. JED SALTZMAN

– I freed myself from words never said –
Jed felt a soft smile form on his lips when Ben told him that he had someone he wanted to impress. “Yeah? Well, that someone is very lucky to have you in their life, then.” Jed said with a grin forming on his lips as he kept his eyes focused solely on Ben. “I know you aren’t.” Jed said, his voice remaining soft as he spoke. “I’ve learned that about you after you told me your story and I saw the fact that you’re still here today.” Anyone else would have given up already, but not Ben. He was incredibly glad about that part because if Ben had given up, he wouldn’t have been able to meet him and he can’t imagine how that would have played out for Jed. A chuckle fell from Jed’s lips when he called him out on the fact that he wasn’t phased at all when Ben told him about all the monsters that would be coming after him. “Monsters have a weak spot and most of the time, they’re pretty easy to defeat. Bees on the other hand? Not so much.” Jed pointed out a moment later with a chuckle falling from his lips when Ben told him that he’ll protect him. “My hero,” Jed said with a grin resting on his lips before it melted away when Ben leaned forward to kiss him, effectively making his heart speed up in the most pleasant way possible. He nodded his head slowly as he listened to Ben before he breathed out a soft ‘wow’ under his breath. “It’s settled, then.” And honestly, Jed couldn’t wait till they could go to a beach together.
“Oh, thank you,” Jed said with a smile forming on his lips when Ben told him that he liked this version of him. “I really like this version of me, too.” He was definitely one of the lucky ones to have a family that cared about him so much and to have a boyfriend as wonderful as Ben. For the longest time, he thought that luck had simply forgotten about his existence but he couldn’t have been more wrong. “O, so that’s how it’s gonna be, huh?” Jed said with a chuckle falling from his lips. “It’s pretty cute, actually,” Jed added a moment later with a smile already tugging at the corner of his lips. Jed seemed to look smug as he heard that Ben will let him off. Still, he couldn’t deny that Ben looked adorable with that flush on his cheeks.
Jed could definitely feel his heart beginning to speed up when Ben told him that he’d never felt like this before. It made warmth bloom in the pit of his stomach as he watched Ben with a tender look on his face and a genuine smile on his lips, unable to deny that his words were definitely making his heart speed up in the most pleasant way possible.
“Okay, let’s do this.” He held onto Ben’s hand and guided him out of his bedroom so that they could both head downstairs and greet his family. He watched the way Josie hugged Ben which immediately filled his heart with relief. “Well, I was thinking we could start with something like twilight? It would be a fun watch and it’s a classic. That way, he can catch all the twilight references.” Jed suggested with a grin resting on his lips.
“Oh, aren’t you an absolute sweetheart? Please call me Jenna, though. Mrs. Saltzman is a bit too formal, no?” Jenna said with a smile resting on her lips. Jed was watching the interaction closely with a smile resting on his lips, relieved to see that it was going well. Jed’s expression softened when he processed Ben’s next words, his hand gently giving Ben’s hand a squeeze as a sign of his gratitude for saying that.
“Well— I just wanted to see if I would lose my hand if I were to punch your father.” Jed pointed out with a chuckle following as he sheepishly rubbed the back of his neck. Jed’s expression softened when Ben told him that he didn’t need to feel embarrassed about it.
“It’s more than okay,” Jed said at the same time as Jenna which made them both look at each other and chuckle. “Please, make yourself at home. I’ll start dinner in a bit.” Jenna gestured to the living room with a soft smile resting on her lips.
Jed was feeling pretty relieved at the fact that everything had gone well. “C’mon, let’s take a seat and put on the movie. You guys can join us if you want to? It’ll be fun.” Jed offered to both Ric and Josie, knowing that Jenna was going to be busy with dinner.

“I’m glad you think so,” Ben admitted as Jed said that he was lucky to have him in his life. “I’m lucky to have you in mine.” Jed had taken a chance on him in a way that no one else ever had and he knew better than to take that for granted. He really wasn’t sure how he was going to ever find a way to repay the kindness that Jed had shown him but he knew that he wouldn’t stop trying. As Jed said that the fact that he was still here showed that he wasn’t a quitter, Ben felt a smile touch his lips. “This time is different, this time I have someone worth sticking around for,” he said gently. That was something that he’d never had before and he was determined to find a way to make this work. Every few days he still had to head out to the woods to make sure that when the monsters did find him he wasn’t around anyone who might get hurt but the truth was that he would much rather do that and be able to stay in town than have to leave Jed and the friends he had made behind. “Some are but there are some out there that are pretty difficult to kill,” Ben admitted. He had learned how to take down a lot of different creatures over the years but some of those could be quite challenging and that was something that Ben didn’t want Jed to ever have to experience. Ben couldn’t stop a smile from forming on his face when Jed called him his hero, Ben knew that he was only messing around but it was still nice to hear nonetheless. “I’m looking forward to it, I’d be happy to go anywhere with you,” Ben admitted. He had seen the world a few times over but he had only ever travelled on his own so the idea of going with Jed was much more appealing. Ben had never met the person that Jed used to be, he only knew the guy that Jed was now and he couldn’t deny that he was pretty great. They hadn’t really known each other for that long but Ben already felt so strongly about him and it scared him a little but Ben knew that he wanted to make the most of being with Jed for as long as he could. Ben had seen everyone that he had once known die around him and he knew that Jed was mortal so at some point that was sure to happen with him as well but Ben knew that he wouldn’t want to change him for anything in the world. He wasn’t sure that he was ready to say the words out loud yet but he was pretty sure that he was falling for Jed and he knew that he didn’t want to take any time with him for granted. He really hadn’t felt this strongly about anyone before, not even Ashur, so Ben was glad that things were going so well for them. “Yeah, that’s exactly how it’s going to be,” he chuckled. They both had a way of seeing through each other it seemed so he knew that it really was only fair. “I’m glad you think so,” he admitted, feeling his cheeks flush a little redder as his eyes met Jed’s. The tender look on Jed’s face was enough to make Ben’s heart start to race. This really was his first time feeling like this and he honestly didn’t know how just one look from Jed could make him feel like this but it was something that Ben knew that he didn’t want to lose. It wasn’t long before they were heading downstairs and Ben felt himself feeling more at ease pretty quickly as Josie hugged him. He had thought that he would be able to count on her support given that she was his friend and she had been the one to help Jed sort through how he was feeling but Jed’s parents were a different matter and Ben knew that he wanted to make a good impression. “That sounds like the perfect place to start,” Josie nodded and Ben looked between the two of them for a moment. “Twilight, is that the one with the vampires and werewolves some of the girls at school talk about?” he asked, not sure whether it really was that or something else. “Of course Mrs Saltzman. Sorry, I mean Jenna,” he corrected quickly, knowing that it was going to take a little getting used to. Feeling Jed squeeze his hand was enough to make a smile touch Ben’s lips and his expression softened as his eyes met his boyfriend’s. This really was going much better than he had thought that it would and as Jed spoke again, it was Ben’s turn to squeeze Jed’s hand gently. “I’ve never met him so I doubt you’ll get the chance but it is really sweet of you,” he admitted. As Jed and Jenna both said it was fine for him to stay at the same time, Ben’s smile widened. “That’s really kind of you, thank you,” he said sincerely, glad that they all seemed to be so accepting of his place in Jed’s life. Ben knew that they could have easily found it quite strange considering how much older he was than Jed but they didn’t seem to mind and for that he truly was grateful. “Sounds good to me,” he nodded, offering both Josie and Ric a smile as they said they’d join them in a bit. “Your family is really nice,” Ben admitted as they settled down on the sofa and he wrapped his arm around Jed’s shoulders. – I freed myself from words never said –
Jed felt a soft smile form on his lips as he listened to Ben, his words effortlessly making him fall for Ben more and more. Did he hate that? No, not in the slightest. His eyes softened as he processed Ben's words, his smile still present on his lips because it really did mean a lot to hear Ben say that. "Okay, I think you just unlocked a new fear in me just now." Jed breathed out with a chuckle falling from his lips. Hard to defeat monsters, huh? It made Jed shudder just thinking about it. "Me too." Jed said with a soft smile resting on his lips when Ben told him that he'd be happy to go anywhere with him. It was exactly how Jed felt, too.
Jed couldn't help the chuckle that left his lips as he shook his head in mock disbelief. His eyes relaxed on the blush that seemed to cover Ben's cheeks and couldn't help the fact that it just made him look insanely adorable. It made him want to pull Ben forward for yet another kiss but he held back from doing so. They needed to head downstairs, after all.
Jed's lips stretched into a grin when Josie told him that twilight was the perfect place to start. "Yeah, not too confusing with all the timeline stuff and all. God forbid we start with star wars or something." Jed said with a chuckle falling from his lips before his expression turned into a surprised one when it became clear that Ben knew about twilight. "Yeah! That's generally the whole plot." Jed said with a chuckle falling from his lips. "Can't wait to figure out which team you are." He added a moment later as an afterthought, his excitement still visible on his expression.
Jed couldn't help the chuckle that left his lips when Ben accidentally called Jenna 'Mrs. Saltzman' again. It was pretty cute, actually. "Just in case he gets any funny ideas like... seeking you out or something like that." Jed wrinkled his nose in distaste. What a terrible father figure. "Sweetheart, you don't need to thank us. As Ric said, you make Jed really happy and you seem like a wonderful guy, so this is the least we can do." Jenna said from where she was in the kitchen, her smile visible on her lips.
Jed gave Ben's hand a gentle squeeze, feeling relieved that their meeting had gone well. Well, Ben had met Ric before, and he knew Josie, but it was the first meeting between him and Jenna and he could already tell that Jenna liked him quite a lot.
Jed took it upon himself to put on the first movie of the twilight series and sat down next to Ben on the couch, his smile immediately coming back to his lips when Ben wrapped his arm around his shoulder. He leaned closer to Ben, his eyes moving away from the movie so that he could turn his head to look at Ben. "Thank you. I'm really glad you guys got along well. Told you, you have nothing to worry about. It's pretty difficult not to like you, Ben." Jed said as he leaned forward to leave a kiss on Ben's cheek before his attention returned back to the movie.

“Don’t worry, I’ll protect you,” Ben assured him, not wanting Jed to worry about anything like that if he could help it. There really were monsters out there that were difficult to kill and Ben had come across a few of them over the years but he knew that he wasn’t going to let anything bad happen to Jed. He had already lost one person that he loved and even though he wasn’t entirely sure that he was ready to say those words out loud just yet or even admit them to himself, he knew that he would do everything in his power to make sure that he didn’t end up losing Jed too. Ben had never been very good at letting people get close to him, it came with the territory of being immortal and cursed he supposed, but Jed had found a way to make all of the defences he had built to protect himself come crashing down that very first day and Ben knew that he didn’t want to go back to his old ways of shutting out those around him. “It sounds like we’ve got a summer trip to plan,” he said, a smile touching his lips as he looked over at Jed. Ben wasn’t used to blushing but that was one more thing that Jed seemed to have a habit of making him do although the truth was that he didn’t mind. He loved the way that Jed made him feel and he knew that he wouldn’t want to give it up for anything in the world. Ben had never done the whole meet the family thing before but so far it seemed to be going well although a confused look formed on his face as Jed mentioned Star Wars. “Star Wars? Are the stars at war?” he asked, not recognising the reference. He only knew a little about Twilight because he’d heard a couple of the girls at school talking about it but when it came to Star Wars he had absolutely no idea. As Jed said he couldn’t wait to find out what team he was on, Ben couldn’t help but laugh. “People choose a team between the vampire and the werewolf, is that right?” he asked, pretty sure that was what the girls had been talking about. “One of the girls at school showed me a picture of the werewolf, I’d probably be biased and say him but he really has nothing on you,” he added, a smile touching his lips as he looked over at Jed. Ben had met a lot of different people over the years but no one had the ability to make Ben’s heart race the way that Jed did. He hadn’t meant to call Jenna Mrs Saltzman again after she’d told him that he could call her Jenna but it was automatic. Ben was so used to calling people by their proper titles so he knew that it was going to take some time to break out of that habit but he knew that he would try if it made them more comfortable. Hearing Jed laugh was enough to make Ben’s cheeks flush red slightly and he nudged Jed’s arm with his own. “You’re not helping,” he teased although his smile gave it away that he didn’t really mind. As Jed spoke about his father, Ben shook his head. “I doubt he will. The only interest he showed in me was when he cursed me and that was five thousand years ago. I doubt he’ll change now,” Ben shrugged. He knew deep down that it was possible because Ben knew that he had already changed since meeting Jed but he was pretty sure that it was something that his father just wasn’t capable of. As Jenna said that he didn’t need to thank them, Ben shook his head. “No, I do. You’ve shown me such kindness even though my being here puts all of you in danger. I truly am grateful,” he said gently. He knew that his being there was risky but he also knew that they were all capable of looking after themselves although if it came down to it he knew that he would protect them just like he would protect Jed. Soon he and Jed were alone and Ben couldn’t resist the urge to wrap his arm around his boyfriend’s shoulders, a smile touching his lips as Jed leaned closer to him. “I’m not used to being around people like this but I’m glad you were right,” he said gently. “They’re the family you chose and that chose you so I really want them to like me,” he added, a smile touching his lips as Jed kissed his cheek and Ben let his head rest lightly against Jed’s. – I freed myself from words never said –
Jed’s lips stretched to form a soft smile when Ben told him that he’d protect him. He had no doubt in his mind about that because he knew that Ben would never let anything bad happen to him, just like how Jed was not going to let anything bad happen to Ben. Jed looked pretty happy at the thought of them enjoying a summer trip together. It was definitely something that Jed was looking forward to.
When he processed Ben’s next question, his attention moved to him before he let out a chuckle, finding it both funny and adorable that Ben missed the reference. “No, no, the stars aren’t at war. It’s just what the movies are called.” Jed explained, barely able to suppress his own laughter.
An impressed expression formed on Jed’s face when he seemed to know what Ben was referring to. “Yeah! That’s it.” Jed said with a grin forming on his lips. His brows quirked up as he listened to Ben’s next words before a chuckle immediately left his lips. “Oh wow, really?” Jed puffed his chest at that before he shrugged his shoulders. “Well, I am very stunning.” Jed played along with a grin resting on his lips. “I’m glad you think so, though. It definitely inflated my ego quite a bit since a lot of people thirst over Jacob.” Jed cleared his throat. “Me included.” He added a moment later with a grin forming on his lips not long after.
Jed’s expression turned into an innocent one when Ben told him that he wasn’t helping. He pointed his index finger at his chest as if to ask if Ben was talking to him when he said that before his lips stretched to form a grin. Jed’s nose wrinkled as he listened to Ben talk about his father. He was an awful man and Jed despised him even though he’d never laid his eyes on the man before.
Jed gave Ben’s hand a gentle squeeze as he processed his next words. He barely even thought of the dangers of having Ben right here with them, but he knew that if a monster were to attack, they would be more than capable of protecting themselves.
Jed’s expression softened as he listened to Ben, his hand resting on Ben’s thigh to give it a gentle squeeze. “You’re a part of our family now.” He said, his voice soft as he spoke. “I’m pretty sure they like you already, Ben.” Jed pointed out with a smile resting on his lips not long after. “Trust me, you’d know if they didn’t like you.” Jed added a moment later with a grin on his lips. Jed paid attention to the movie, his hand still resting on Ben’s thigh, making comments here and there while watching the movie. Jed put on the second Twilight movie, barely even registering how quickly the time was moving until he heard Jenna’s voice from the dining room. “Boys, dinner’s ready!” Jed blinked a few times as he looked over at the dining room. “Oh boy. I didn’t even realize how much time has passed. What do you think ‘bout the franchise so far?” Jed questioned, his voice showcasing his curiosity as he pushed up from the couch and held his hand out to Ben to take so he could guide him to the dining room.

Ben hadn’t known when he was growing up that he was destined to outlive everyone that he cared about, it was something that had just happened. His mother, Ashur’s father and Ashur were all human and they had died before Ben had truly even known what he was. Since then he had struggled letting people get close to him for that reason and lots of others but with Jed it was different. With Jed Ben truly did care about him and he knew that he wanted to spend whatever time he could with him. The idea of being able to go away on a summer trip was definitely something that Ben wanted to do and he hoped that they would get the chance. “That doesn’t make much sense to me but okay,” Ben shrugged. He could tell that Jed was amused but it really didn’t mean anything to him although he had a feeling that he would probably end up finding out sooner or later. Until then he knew that he wanted to just focus on one series at a time if he could and he felt a smile touch his lips as Jed confirmed that it was the right series. As Jed spoke again, Ben’s expression turned to one of confusion for a moment. “I have no idea what thirsting over someone means, should I be jealous?” he asked, unable to deny that he was a little embarrassed that this was a second reference that he hadn’t ended up getting in such quick succession. As Jed pointed at himself like he had no idea what he was talking about, Ben rolled his eyes playfully. He knew that Jed knew exactly what he was talking about but Ben couldn’t deny that he enjoyed the banter that always passed back and forth between them. He might not know what all of the references meant all the time but he could still hold his own and it made it that much more fun. The fact that Jed was willing to go up against his father for him really did mean the world to Ben and Ben knew that he really didn’t want to let anything bad happen to Jed. Feeling Jed squeeze his hand, Ben returned the gesture gently. He had a feeling that Jed might have forgotten the danger that came from being around him but it was something that was always there in the back of Ben’s mind so he really was grateful to all of them for taking a chance on him. Ben’s smile returned as Jed placed his hand on his leg and Ben brought his free hand up to cover Jed’s. “That means so much to me, I haven’t had a family for a long time,” Ben admitted gently. The truth was that he hadn’t had a family since Ashur had died and he hadn’t thought that he would get the chance to have that again. He hadn’t wanted to let anyone get close enough to him to end up getting hurt by the monsters that always found him in the end but Jed really had changed everything for him and he knew that he wouldn’t have it any other way. “That’s good,” he said, a smile touching his lips. He knew that Jed wouldn’t lie to him about that and Jed knew his family better than anyone so Ben knew that he just needed to trust him. Ben’s hand stayed on Jed’s as the movie played and Ben lost track of time, enjoying being able to just sit with Jed like this and enjoy his company. The second movie hadn’t been on for very long when Jenna’s voice sounded telling them that dinner was ready and Ben nodded as Jed said that he didn’t realise how much time had passed. “I didn’t either, I’m quite comfortable here with you,” he admitted before taking Jed’s hand and getting to his feet, following him through to the dining room. “It’s not bad although I don’t really get why they’re so obsessed with that Bella girl,” he shrugged. – I freed myself from words never said –
Jed chuckled when Ben told him that it didn’t make much sense to him. He wasn’t surprised in the slightest to hear Ben say that. “It’s okay, we’ll get you caught up and you’ll understand all the references.” Jed said with a grin resting on his lips. He cleared his throat at Ben’s question before he shook his head. “Nah, it’s nothing, really.” Jed pointed out with a shake of his head. “Plus, he has absolutely nothing on you. You’re literally so dreamy.” Jed said out loud which made Jenna release an ‘awww’ from where she was in the kitchen which made Jed fondly roll his eyes. He guided Ben to the couch and put on the film and when Ben’s next words filled his ears, he turned his attention to let it rest on him before he offered him a soft smile that was sympathetic. Jed was pretty sure that he was a part of their family now and he was also pretty sure that his family liked Ben because if they didn’t, it would have been pretty obvious, so thankfully it didn’t play out that way, it actually went really well instead. He was excited for Ben to re-experience what it was like to have a family.
Jed couldn’t help the chuckle that fell from his lips when Ben told him that he didn’t get why they were so obsessed with Bella. “Honestly, I agree with you on that. Edward and Jacob should’ve just gotten together instead, but I’m pretty sure they’re straight.” Jed pointed out as he sat down next to Ben, reaching out for Ben’s plate to put food on it before he helped the rest of his family, too. He took a bite from his food and released a pleased hum. “Divine as always, Jenna.” Jed praised almost immediately as he took yet another bite from his food. “I’m glad you like it.” Jenna said with a smile resting on her lips. Jed let his free hand rest on Ben’s thigh under the table, unsure why he always felt the need to touch Ben, but he couldn’t help it. He just loved being able to touch Ben like this.

“I’d appreciate that. I don’t know what people are talking about at school half the time,” Ben chuckled. He had become pretty good at acting like he knew what they were talking about even though he didn’t really have a clue but with Jed he knew that he never had to do that. There were times when he didn’t always understand what Jed was talking about but Ben knew that he could catch up sooner or later and Jed was always patient with him and explained so Ben really was grateful to him for that. “Good answer,” Ben grinned as Jed said that Jacob had nothing on him before saying that he was dreamy, his cheeks flushing red slightly at Jenna’s reaction. He had to resist the urge to kiss Jed right there, not wanting to make things uncomfortable in front of his family, but instead he lifted their joined hands and pressed a light kiss to Jed’s knuckles, unable to resist completely. Following Jed through to the living room, Ben couldn’t deny that he felt comfortable sitting there with Jed. He had never known that it could be this easy to be around someone or that he would think about Jed as much as he did when they were apart but this was something that he knew he didn’t want to lose. Seeing the way Jed’s expression softened when he said he hadn’t had a family for a long time was enough to make Ben’s heart ache a little especially when Jed said that they were his family now too. Ben wasn’t sure that that was true, they were being nice to him because he and Jed were together but he didn’t know what would happen if that changed in the future although Ben knew that he really didn’t want it to. For the first time in such a long time he had someone he wanted to be with, someone he could see himself wanting a future with, and he knew better than to take that for granted or do anything to mess it up. For a moment Ben wondered if he might have said the wrong thing when he said that he didn’t understand why the guys in the movie were so obsessed with Bella but soon Jed was agreeing with him and Ben felt a smile touch his lips. “That would have been more believable,” he agreed as they headed into the dining room. “You’re right, they probably are straight but you never know, I thought you were straight to begin with,” he grinned, definitely glad that he had been wrong about that. That first day there had been times when he had wondered if Jed liked him too but he hadn’t known for sure and then Jed had disappeared for a few days so Ben really had thought that he had scared him off. Slipping into the seat next to Jed, Ben thanked him as Jed piled some food onto his place and a smile touched Ben’s lips as he watched Jed help his family. “You always look after people, don’t you?” he asked, a gentle smile on his face as Ben settled back down next to him. Tucking into his meal, Ben couldn’t deny that he was surprised at how good it was even after all of the nice things that Jed had said about Jenna’s cooking. “Jed’s right, this really is delicious,” he admitted as he took a sip of his drink. Feeling Jed’s hand on his leg once more, Ben reached under the table and gave Jed’s hand a gentle squeeze before letting go, his leg resting against Jed’s as he continued eating. The way Jed seemed to like having even just one small point of contact with him most of the time was something that Ben had never experienced before but he couldn’t deny that he loved it. I’d appreciate that. I don’t know what people are talking about at school half the time, Good answer,
Jed let out a chuckle at that before he nodded his head in an understanding manner. He was definitely going to help him catch up so that he could understand the references without feeling out of the loop. Landon would definitely love to have someone to talk to about the whole star wars franchise. Jed had seen the franchise, but that doesn't mean he was exactly a big fan of it. Unlike Landon. Jed's lips stretched into a grin when Ben approved of his answer, he shrugged his shoulders with the same grin still locked on his lips. The kiss that Ben pressed on his knuckles was nothing short of romantic and it was such a simple and romantic gesture that it made his heart skip a beat in the most pleasant way possible.
That would have been more believable, You’re right, they probably are straight but you never know, I thought you were straight to begin with,
Jed released a chuckle at that as he thought about what the movies would have been like if Edward and Jacob were into each other instead. "Now I can't stop thinking about it." Jed said with a shake of his head following as he attempted to blink past the mental image of the characters abandoning Bella and getting together instead. "I gotta say though, Bella is pretty cute, but I dunno, her character is pretty boring." Jed pointed out a moment later with a wrinkle of his nose following as he moved closer to the dining table and turned his attention to Ben when he heard his next words which pulled a laugh from Jed. "You know what? Fair point. I should know better than to put them in a labeled box." Jed said with a grin resting on his lips.
You always look after people, don’t you?
Jed's attention moved to rest on Ben as he tilted his head slightly at his question before he released a soft 'oh' as his attention circled the room to find that all the plates were filled, except his own until he changed that. "I barely noticed what I was doing, to be honest." Jed said with a chuckle falling from his lips, wondering if it was just his personality or the Alpha side of him that made him feel like he should take care of everyone first before taking care of himself. Maybe it was a mixture of both.
Jed’s right, this really is delicious,
Jed's lips stretched into a grin when Ben agreed along with him which definitely seemed to please Jenna quite a lot. "Thank you, Ben. I'm glad you're enjoying it." Jed watched the interaction between the two of them with the same grin still locked on his lips. He ate in silence most of the time and once he was finished, he pushed himself up to help Jenna move the dishes to the kitchen before she told him to go back to Ben and that she will take care of everything. "Hey, Ben." Jed called out from where he was in the kitchen as he poked his head out. "Wanna have a beer with me?" Jed questioned, his tone showcasing his curiosity. "We can continue with our movie marathon in a sec, just gotta grab the snacks and drinks." Jed said with a quick nod of his head following as he waited for Ben's answer.

Ben knew that he had so much to catch up on so there were times when he felt awkward when he was around the other students at the Salvatore School but he knew that it would get easier and days like this were sure to help. Right now he was still the new guy and he was still hesitant to let too many people get close to him because the curse still continued to loom over his head. He still had to disappear for a while every couple of days and head out to the woods so the monsters could find him far away from anyone who could get hurt but in moments like these it was easy to forget about all of that. He hadn’t realised just how lonely he was until Jed came into his life but now he often found himself thinking about Jed and it had ended up being a little scary at first but now he loved it. He really did feel like he was becoming a better person around Jed and he knew that he didn’t want to give that up. “You keep picturing them together, huh?” Ben asked, a playful smile touching his lips as he looked over at Jed. He couldn’t really blame him, the two guys in the movie were really handsome but Ben had meant it when he’d said that Jacob had nothing on Jed and the same was true of Edward. Ben had never thought of himself as having a type but Jed ticked all of the boxes for him. “That’s the problem. Does she become any more interesting as the movies go on?” he asked, not sure whether she would or whether she would just stay the same. As Jed agreed with him as they moved in the direction of the dining room, Ben couldn’t help but laugh. “It’s alright, it happens,” he said, his expression turning gentle as his eyes met Jed’s. “I’m glad I was wrong about that with you.” Thinking that Jed was straight hadn’t stopped Ben from showing an interest in him or thinking that he was seeing signs that Jed was interested in him too but Ben was glad that he hadn’t ended up being disappointed by finding out that Jed wasn’t interested after all. “It’s really sweet how much you care about everyone,” he said gently, catching the way Ric smiled at that out of the corner of his eye. It was the same with the pack, Ben could see how much Jed cared about them too and he loved that about Jed. “It’s impossible not to,” Ben said, his smile returning as he looked over at Jenna. The food really was delicious so he could definitely understand why Jed had so many nice things to say about it. Tucking into his meal, Ben really did enjoy it and once he had finished he started to get up so he could carry his plate out to the kitchen but Ric shook his head. “Stay where you are Ben, we’ve got this,” he said, taking the rest through to the kitchen so he could help Jenna clean up. “Thank you,” he said sincerely, really grateful for their hospitality. As Jed asked if he wanted to have a beer with him, Ben nodded. “Definitely.” It had become a regular thing for the two of them and Ben couldn’t think of anything more perfect right now. JED SALTZMAN

– I freed myself from words never said –
Jed nodded his head almost immediately at Ben's question. "Yup." He replied almost immediately to Ben's question. "It's stuck in my mind now." He added a moment later with a lop-sided grin on his lips. "Hey now, no spoilers." He pointed his index finger at Ben. "You'll see for yourself when we finish the movies." Jed added a moment later, not wanting to ruin the surprise for Ben by revealing the bit where Bella does wind up becoming a vampire. It was an iconic scene, honestly.
Jed's lips stretched to form a soft smile as his attention moved to rest on Ben again. "You definitely helped me discover that bit about myself. I mean, we have hot guys at our school but I never felt this way about them, until you came along and it was definitely an eye-opener. Plus, I'm pretty sure that you're hotter than all of them combined, but that might just be my biased opinion." Jed revealed with a quick shrug of his shoulders following, meaning every word of it. He had met a few hot guys before, but they never awakened anything within him until Ben came along. All it took was one look at the man for something to unlock within him and from there, it was just a lot of... bisexual panicking.
Jed's lips stretched to form a soft smile, the compliment definitely made him feel good about himself both as a person and as an alpha. It means that he was doing a pretty decent job at taking care of his family. Jed could feel his cheeks beginning to heat up all over again and to avoid getting teased about becoming a blushing hot mess, he paid attention to his food until his face finally seemed to calm down quite a bit. Once Jed was done with his food, he brought his plate to the kitchen to help Jenna clean up and looked over at Ric and Ben when Ric told Ben to stay where he was. It was definitely enough to put a smile on Jed's lips.
Once he had Ben's answer, he took two bottles of beer from the fridge along with the fruit bowl that Jenna had offered as a snack and made his way back to Ben, balancing the two bottles and the bowl in one hand because he wanted to use his other hand to hold Ben's hand. Talk about priorities. "Here you go." Jed held out the beer bottle to Ben with a half-smile resting on his lips before he reached for Ben's hand so that they could head back to the couch. He placed the fruit bowl on the coffee table in front of them and with the hand holding the beer bottle (because of course he wasn't going to let go of Ben's hand to start the movie, screw that) he pressed the button to start the movie which ended up being the wrong button. "Crap," Jed grumbled when it pulled them out of the movie altogether. He squeezed his beer bottle between his thighs and held the remote properly so that he could start the movie properly this time around and then placed the remote aside and took his beer bottle back in his hand. Jed mouthed the lines along because it was his umpteenth time seeing the movie but it didn't make him enjoy it any less, he was still enjoying it like it was his first time seeing it. "You know what I should introduce you to next? The DC and Marvel universe, that way, we know where you stand. If you pick the one I have in mind, then, unfortunately, this won't work out." Jed joked with a lop-sided grin forming on his lips. "I'm kidding. I am curious, though. It would be fun to figure that out 'bout you."
