– I freed myself from words never said –
Jed’s eyes relaxed on Ben as he registered his words. They were more than enough to place a gentle smile on his lips as his cheeks flushed a dark red color. “I’m glad you found me.” Jed said in a soft voice. “Technically, I found you, but we don’t care about technicalities right now.” Jed pointed out a moment later with a soft chuckle falling from his lips. College definitely sounded like a good idea, it was a good way to guarantee a job, too. Not that he hated his current job, but a higher paying job would be great, too. “Sure, I don’t see why not.” Jed said with a quick nod of his head following. He had no doubt that his parents would help him make up his mind about his classes. They’d surely erase every last bit of hesitation in his mind, too. He trusted them, more than anything.
“I have no doubt in my mind about that.” Jed said with a gentle smile on his lips when Ben told him that they all loved him and would never give up on him. It gave him all the assurance he needed to know that he wouldn’t stray too far. For now though, Jed knew it would be best not to think about that too much. It would only wind up driving him insane with all the things that could go wrong. So he shook it all off for now and decided to focus on the current moment.
“Bold of you to assume that you aren’t the one stuck with me.” Jed teased in a light-hearted voice when Ben told him that he was stuck with him. He was quiet as he listened to Ben, his smile gradually becoming more and more prominent on his lips as he continued listening to him. "You know, that's not a bad idea at all. I really like the sound of that." Jed agreed almost immediately. He really didn't need time to think about it because, for him, there was nothing to think about.
Jed's expression softened as he nodded his head a few times. They have definitely come a long way. They have already been through so much together. He really did appreciate having Ben in his life. It definitely made him feel a lot better. A laugh left his lips at Ben's words before he nodded his head almost immediately. "Yeah, you're right about that." He said with yet another laugh falling from his lips.
"I'm definitely gonna take advantage of that free insight, too. Y'know, ever since I found you, I've kinda become a fanatic about angels and nephilims and... everything else in between. But by far, nephilims are my favorite." He would be more than happy to absorb any new information about Ben's kind since the books didn't have that many. They just talked about nephilims as though they were destined to bring nothing but destruction to the angels. But thankfully, that point of view seems to have changed now. "In that case, I'll be sure to answer any questions you may have." Jed said with a gentle smile tugging at the corner of his lips.
Jed was more than happy to stretch his legs again after hours of staying in the van. Though, don't get him wrong, it wasn't uncomfortable in there. He just appreciated the fact he could stand and stretch his legs. He released a hum of agreement when Ben said that the town didn't have the same home-y feeling that Mystic Falls effortlessly carried. "I don't think any town could compete with Mystic Falls, honestly." Jed agreed with a chuckle falling from his lips not long after.
"I'm loving the hell out of it, honestly." Jed was quick to reply. "It's pretty nice." He said with a soft smile on his lips. "What about you? Are you enjoying your time?"

“I am too,” Ben agreed as Jed said he was glad he’d found him. Ben had been on his own for such a long time after Ashur died and he had honestly thought that he would have to stay that way for the rest of his life but as it turned out he couldn’t have been more wrong about that and the truth was that he was glad. Ben had never experienced a love like this before and for the first time he was excited about what the future was going to hold. “Definitely not,” he said, a smile touching his lips as he ran his fingers lightly over Jed’s cheek, feeling the warmth beneath his skin where his cheeks were flushed. This wasn’t the kind of life that Ben had ever thought that he would get to have but now he had it he knew that he would fight to keep it. “It might make things a bit easier,” he nodded. “Have your sisters figured out what they want to do?” he asked, not sure whether Jed had talked about it with them yet either. As Jed said there wasn’t a doubt in his mind that they all loved him and would never give up on him, Ben’s smile returned. “You’ve got so many people around you who love you, you’ll never be alone,” Ben assured him gently. He meant it when he said that he wasn’t going anywhere, he would stay with Jed for as long as the guy let him and nothing was going to change that. As Jed said it was bold of him to assume that he wasn’t stuck with him, Ben couldn’t help but laugh. “I already know I am, we stick together no matter what,” he chuckled. It had been that way ever since that very first day and even the fact that Jed had pulled away from him for a short while hadn’t really changed that. They were always there for each other and Ben knew that that was just as it should be. “You mean it?” Ben asked, a smile touching his lips as Jed said he liked his idea of them spending more nights together. “I don’t want to overstay my welcome with your family so we can always spend more time in the dorms,” he added quickly, knowing that the last thing he wanted was for Jed’s family to get sick of having him around so much. Ben knew that he and Jed had come such a long way since they first got together, they had ended up doing things at their own speed and there were some who might think that they were moving too fast but they were committed to each other and Ben knew that he didn’t want to waste a moment of the time they had together. “I’m so glad you feel that way,” Ben admitted as Jed said that nephilims were his favourite. “We’ve had a bad reputation for such a long time but as far as I know none of it is true,” he added. He knew the rumours about his kind, that whole worlds could be destroyed by them, but Ben had been living his life on Earth for thousands of years and he had always tried to live his life the right way. He knew that it didn’t matter to his father, the angel still saw him as an abomination and that was never going to change but Ben knew that he didn’t need his approval, he had people around him who loved and accepted him and it didn’t matter that his own father couldn’t do that. “I appreciate that, thanks,” Ben said, a smile touching his lips as he glanced over t Jed before turning his attention back to the road. “To be honest I’ve picked up a bit about different species over the years but because of you I’m a werewolf fanatic now too,” he added with a grin. He wanted to learn as much as he could about them so he would understand what Jed went through every month that much better and he hoped that in time he would get there. It felt good to be able to stretch his legs after being stuck in the same position behind the wheel for such a long time and Ben was pretty sure that Jed felt the same. The town they were in had a different feel to Mystic Falls but the truth was that Ben had travelled so much and he had never come across anywhere like Mystic Falls before so he wasn’t really surprised. “I don’t either, it will always be our home,” he nodded. No matter where they ended up he knew that Mystic Falls would always be home. It was where Jed found his family, where the two of them met and where they fell in love so as far as Ben was concerned it would always have a special place in his heart. “I’m so glad,” Ben admitted as Jed said he was loving the trip before turning the question back around on him. “I’m loving it too, this is the first time I’ve travelled anywhere because I’ve actually wanted to,” he admitted. In the past he had always moved out of necessity because it had been a way of stopping the monsters from coming after him quite as frequently and he’d always had to move on if people saw him die anyway. This trip was completely different so it meant that much more to him. “I can’t wait for you to see New Orleans, you’re going to love it.”JED SALTZMAN

– I freed myself from words never said –
Jed released a soft chuckle when Ben told him that they definitely didn't care about technicalities right now. He couldn't agree more. "Honestly, I haven't talked to them about the whole college thing yet." Jed explained with a shrug of his shoulders following. "But it's fine, we'll figure this out when it's time." Jed added a moment later, his voice still soft. "I'm truly lucky to have you guys in my life." There was a time where he only seemed to have one person who truly cared about him, but now, he had a lot of people who seemed to genuinely care about him. It made him feel beyond lucky.
Jed let out a chuckle at Ben's word. "Yeah, we do." Jed said with a smile already beginning to tug at the corner of his lips. "Of course I mean it." Jed said with the same smile still on his lips. "Honestly, you wouldn't be overstaying your welcome. I'm pretty sure everyone in that house loves you, especially my mom. I think her new favorite hobby is spoiling you with food.' Jed said with a chuckle falling from his lips following. "But if it makes you more comfortable, we can definitely spend more in the dorms." Jed added a moment later.
"I just think that we can't control who we have as our parents and I also think that as the kids, we shouldn't be punished for it. I'm looking at you right now and I don't see the monster that they make your kind seem to be." Jed said in a soft voice. "Oh, I'm honored to hear that." Jed said with a grin tugging at the corner of his lips when Ben said that thanks to him, he was a werewolf fanatic. He was a bit of a nephilim buff now since he was dating a buff nephilim.
Jed's expression softened as he listened to Ben. "I'm glad you get to experience what that feels like now." Jed said in a soft voice. He was glad that he could be there for it, too. He was really happy that Ben was finally experiencing what it felt like to travel because he wanted to, not because he felt forced to do so. "Honestly, me neither. I have a feeling I'm definitely gonna love it.' Jed said with an excited smile tugging at the corner of his lips already.
"That's it," he gestured to the restaurant once they were in front of it. He reached for the door to open it for Ben before he joined in after him. He took a moment to get accustomed to everything before he turned to look at Ben with a gentle smile on his lips. "C'mon, let's go order." He reached for Ben's hand to hold it in his own as they began heading over to the front to take a look at the menu to see what they wanted to get. "I think I'm gonna get Chow Mein and two meat Dim Sum. What about you?"

“We still have time to figure it all out,” Ben nodded. Graduation was coming up but they still had some time left before that and Jed seemed to have his heart set on going to the Salvatore College anyway even if he wasn’t sure what he was going to study yet so that was already half of the decision made. Ben knew there was a chance that some of their friends might decide to attend different schools after graduation but he honestly hoped that they would all decide to stay on at the Salvatore College so they could stick together. As Jed said he was lucky to have them all in his life, Ben felt a smile touch his lips. “I don’t think luck has anything to do with it, this is what you deserve,” Ben assured him. He knew that Jed hadn’t had a great childhood with his dad but that was in the past now and he’d finally found the family he should have had all along so Ben really was happy for him. “You know I’ll never turn down your mom’s cooking but they probably won’t want another house guest all the time,” Ben chuckled, knowing that there were already quite a few of them living in the house as it was. “Let’s split our time between your place and the dorms for now, it might make things easier for when we do get our own place,” he suggested. As much as Ben loved spending time with Jed’s family he did sometimes worry that they would end up getting sick of having him around so much so he knew that sharing their time between the two places would probably be the best way to go. As Jed said they couldn’t control who they had as their parents, Ben found himself nodding. “That’s very true,” he admitted. He hadn’t been able to pick who his biological dad was anymore than Jed had. “Apparently we’re meant to be capable of destroying whole worlds but to be honest I wouldn’t be surprised if my father made that up to make all angels hate my kind,” Ben shrugged. He certainly wasn’t capable of doing anything like that as far as he knew and he wasn’t sure if Jack was either. As Jed said he was honoured to hear that he was a werewolf fanatic, Ben couldn’t help but laugh. “It’s only fair I become a werewolf expert since I’m in love with one,” he grinned. Ben felt a smile touch his lips as Jed said he was glad he got to experience what it was like to travel for pleasure now. “To be honest I’m just glad I get to share it with you,” Ben admitted. In the past he had always been on his own and he hadn’t always truly appreciated what was out there but now it was already so different. “You will. We’ll make this a trip to remember,” Ben assured him, knowing that he really wanted it to be special since it was Jed’s first time outside Mystic Falls. Nodding as Jed said they were at the restaurant, Ben offered his boyfriend a smile as he held the door open for him. “Thanks,” he said, giving Jed’s hand a squeeze before letting go and heading inside. “Alright,” he nodded as Jed said they should order. It wasn’t long before Jed was reaching for his hand once again and Ben met him half way before lacing their fingers together. “I think I’ll go for Kung Pao chicken and dumplings,” he said after glancing over the menu. “Maybe some spring rolls to share as well?” he suggested. “There’s beers in a cooler in the van or we can get something to drink here, what do you think?” he asked, not sure what Jed wanted to have with it. Jed nodded his head in agreement, a small smile already beginning to tug at the corner of his lips. He still had some time to figure out what he was going to study and since he already knew he was going to go to the Salvatore College, he felt as though it was half of the decision made already. He was just gonna have to talk to his sisters and his friends and see what kind of classes they were interested in and he will most likely follow their lead because he can’t deny the charm of going to class and seeing familiar faces there. It would certainly make the subject a lot more enjoyable, so why not? His expression softened at Ben’s words as his smile only grew wider from there, feeling his heart flutter from the sincerity of his words. “Thank you, Ben. That means a lot to me.” Jed said, the tone of his voice soft as he spoke.
“I really don’t think they mind, though, but yeah, we can split our time here and there.” Jed said with a quick nod of his head following. He never got the sense that his parents or anyone at home were uncomfortable with Ben’s presence. If anything, it felt like they really liked having him around and so, he was more than happy to invite him over whenever he could.
“You know, your dad’s kind of the asshole that I can definitely see him doing something like that.” Jed agreed with Ben. His father hated Ben’s kind and it would definitely stay true to the character of Ben’s father to make up such horrible rumors about nephilims to the point that they were hated by others as well, especially angels. “But if I learned anything from watching Castiel and Jack, it’s that angels don’t see you guys as such a threat anymore.” Jed said with a quick nod of his head following. “Your father is just a special case.” There was distaste clear in the tone of his voice as he spoke. “Aw, well, I’m in love with you, too.” Jed said with a grin tugging at the corner of his lips already as he spoke.
“Oh, don’t you worry, this trip is already one I’m pretty sure I’ll remember.” Jed assured him with a smile on his lips. It was definitely not an exaggeration. He felt like he was going to remember the drive here for a long, long time ahead. As well as laying his eyes on the van for the first time. The happiness that he felt then was definitely going to be something he’ll remember for a long time.
Jed’s lips stretched into a gentle smile when Ben thanked him for opening the door for him. An impressed hum left his lips when Ben told him what he wanted to order. “Oh, sure. I like spring rolls a lot.” Jed was quick to agree. “Oh, beer from the van sounds really good.” Jed said with a quick nod of his head following. Once it was their turn in line to order, Jed told the cashier what they would like to order and paid not long after. Once they were done, he guided Ben to step aside with him so they weren’t in the way as they waited for their food to be done. There were a few curious pairs of eyes on them, but their gazes weren’t hostile and for that, he was relieved. He didn’t want anything to ruin their trip, especially territorial wolves. “Oh man, the smell of food is making me super hungry. This is torture.” Jed said with a brief chuckle falling from his lips.

“It’s the truth,” Ben assured Jed as he thanked him. “You won’t let me think badly of myself and I won’t let you do it either.” Jed had been through so much and he had been let down by one of the two people in the world who was meant to love him unconditionally and always be there to protect him. That had had a lasting effect on Jed, that much was clear, but he had a new family now and it was one that accepted him for who he was and wouldn’t dream of trying to change him. Not only that but Jed had all of their friends around him as well so things had definitely worked out for him and Ben knew that he was fortunate enough to be able to say the same. This wasn’t the hand they had been dealt in life at first but they had both come a long way since then and he knew that now they were both where they were meant to be. What would happen after graduation he wasn’t sure and he didn’t know what their future together was going to hold either but he knew that he and Jed would face it together the same way they did everything else. “Let’s see how we go, I do enjoy spending time with your family,” Ben admitted. Ever since the day he met them they had been nothing but welcoming to him and even after everything that had happened that didn’t seem to have changed. They hadn’t blamed him for Jed or Josie dying and they hadn’t batted an eyelid at the fact that just his presence in their home was putting them in danger before the girls found a way to stop the monsters from coming after him. He really was grateful to them for that and he knew that he would quite happily spend more time at their place with Jed. As Jed spoke again, Ben found himself nodding. “Same here. I don’t know what he wanted from me but apparently I’ve let him down in some way and now he thinks all supernaturals deserve to die,” Ben shrugged. He had only met his father once but the truth was that he loathed the angel and he knew that they were never going to see eye to eye. He had no idea what he had done that was so bad in his father’s eyes but Ben knew that he really didn’t need his approval, he had a man he loved and people around him who had become family to him so he knew that they were all he needed. As Jed said he was in love with him too, Ben felt a smile touch his lips and he leaned over and kissed Jed gently. “I know,” he said, the smile still present on his lips as he stole one more kiss before pulling away. Jed had showed him that the day he had died to protect him and ever since then there hadn’t been a doubt in Ben’s mind about how Jed felt about him. “I’m glad to hear it,” Ben admitted as Jed said the trip was already one that he was going to remember. He had wanted to make sure that it was special for Jed but the truth was that it was a trip that Ben was going to remember as well. It was so different travelling with someone he loved and he knew that he wanted to make the most of it while he had the chance. “I remember,” Ben chuckled as Jed said he liked spring rolls a lot. They’d tried a few of the different takeout places and restaurants around Mystic Falls and Chinese food seemed to be a favourite for both of them. As Jed said that beer from the van sounded good, Ben couldn’t help but smile. “I thought you might say that,” he grinned. Having a beer together had become their thing even before they got together and it was still something that they did quite often now so he’d made sure that they had plenty to keep them going. Watching as Jed placed the order, Ben stepped aside and soon felt the gaze of a few of the other customers on them. Jed’s hand was still clasped in his own but he wasn’t sure if that was why they were looking at them or if there was another reason and what Jed had said about hostile wolves rang in his mind for a moment. “I know what you mean, it smells really good,” he admitted before turning to look at Jed. “Is it me or do some of the people over there keep looking at us?” he asked, wanting to make sure he wasn’t imagining things. – I freed myself from words never said –
There was a gentle smile already forming on his lips as he listened to Ben. He had a point, that's for certain. Jed usually would never let Ben say anything bad about himself, quickly chiming in to defend him and now, Ben was doing the same thing to him which was quite charming, actually. It was enough to make his heart flutter in such a strange way. "You do make a fair point. Alright then. No more bad talk about me." Jed promised with a chuckle falling from his lips not long after. "Alright, no pressure. Just know the offer's always on the table." Jed said with a half-smile on his lips, his eyes moving from Ben to relax on the road again.
"Honestly, if anything, your dad's the big let down here. Especially for someone who used to think angels were pretty forgiving, nice, and y'know, angelic. I don't know how he managed to do it, but he managed to tarnish the way I used to view angels. I mean, Castiel wasn't as bad, but... I don't think I'll ever trust angels the same way again." Ben's dad had the nerve to act like Ben was such a disappointment while he was the one who was set to tarnish the name and reputation of the angels. He was nothing but a monster in Jed's eyes. He surpassed his biological father by miles, honestly.
Jed's lips stretched into a grin when Ben made it clear that he remembered that he liked spring rolls. They had tried a couple of restaurants back home and Jed almost always went for the spring rolls. "You know I can't resist the chance to drink alone with you. It seems to be our thing. What we're missing is the bonfire though." Jed said with a brief chuckle falling from his lips as he shifted weight from one foot to the other. "Yeah, I'm like, drooling a bit." He joked as he glanced around them once again and it wasn't long before Ben was picking up on the fact that they were being stared at.
"Yeah, they are definitely looking at us.." Jed met a few prodding gazes and they looked away when they realized they had been caught staring. "Probably because we don't look like we're from around here." Jed explained because he couldn't feel any hatred in their gazes, neither could he feel any territorial glares. "But they don't look angry to you, do they? I mean, they don't look angry to me, but I could be wrong. Was never that good at reading the room." Jed hoped that the restaurant wasn't already marked by wolves or else he might not be welcome here. Either way, he knew it was a good choice to not eat here just in case.
"Maybe the fact that we're also holding hands is kinda helping with the staring but I'm not gonna let go of your hand, so they can look all they want." Jed's shoulders lifted and dropped in a quick shrug. The way he felt in regards to letting go of Ben's hand was always pretty clear.
It wasn't long before their food was ready. "Thank you." He told the person behind the counter with a small smile on his lips before he grabbed the plastic bags. "Food secured. Let's get outta here." Jed began making his way out of the restaurant with Ben and soon enough, he was setting his way toward the van where they could sit together and eat. Once he was inside, he realized that he'd have to let go of Ben's hand and so he eventually did so. He took the food outside of the plastic bag and set it down on the table, uncovering everything so they could start eating. He grabbed Ben's pair of chopsticks and placed it next to his food and then grabbed his own so he could start eating with Ben. "Man, this right here," he pointed toward the food with his chopsticks. "Hits the spot." He took yet another bite from his food before he moved his food closer to Ben in case he wanted to eat with him, too which was something that Jed always did whenever they had meals together. He just loved sharing everything with Ben.

“Good because you’re incredible,” Ben assured him, knowing that there wasn’t a doubt in his mind about that. Jed often thought badly of himself and Ben could definitely understand why he did it because he was just as guilty for doing that but he knew that he didn’t want Jed to start doubting himself. Jed had done so much for so many people and it always amazed Ben just how far he would go for the people he cared about as well as those he didn’t even know. He was without a doubt the best person that Ben had ever met and he refused to let Jed think badly of himself. “I’ll definitely take you up on it, I love seeing you when you’re at home. You’re so relaxed,” he admitted. Jed often seemed relaxed when he was at the school as well but that was different. There he always had to put on a brave face for the other students but when Jed was around his family he could be himself and Ben loved seeing that side of him. “I know what you mean, I always grew up hearing stories about my father and the other angels but none of them were true. If they were really everything that they were made out to be then they wouldn’t have let my father do any of the things he has done.” His father had made it clear that he was nothing more than an experiment, one that he had no doubt hidden from the other angels, and there wasn’t a doubt in Ben’s mind that his father was the one responsible for giving nephilims a bad reputation. He had been able to get away with so much including Josie and Hope and Ben knew that there was no way that they were going to let that continue. One way or another he would pay and they would find a way to do that with or without the help of the other angels. As Jed said they were missing a bonfire, Ben couldn’t help but laugh. “I’m sure that could be arranged,” he chuckled, knowing that it would be easy enough to find a spot out of the way where they could park up for the night and start a bonfire if that was what they wanted to do. “So I see,” Ben teased, his expression playful as he looked over at his boyfriend. He had learned quite a lot about what food Jed liked and what he didn’t like when they had been trying out different restaurants and takeaways around Mystic Falls so he knew that this meal was going to go down very well for the both of them. Ben hadn’t been able to ignore the way that the eyes of the other customers were resting on them and in a way it was a relief to know that he wasn’t imagining things but at the same time it meant that they could be in danger. “That’s a good point,” he admitted as Jed said it could be because they didn’t look like they were from around there. It seemed like a pretty small town and Ben knew how those could be all too well. They often didn’t like strangers coming into their town so it could be that or it could be something else. “You’re right, they don’t look angry. They look more curious than anything,” he agreed, unable to deny that he was glad about that. As Jed mentioned that it could be the fact that they were holding hands, Ben’s expression softened. “That’s true. I’m not letting go of your hand either so if that’s what it is then they can go ahead and keep staring. They’re not going to ruin our trip,” he nodded. He knew that Jed never liked letting go of his hand and truth be told Ben always felt the same so he knew that they weren’t going to let some random strangers make them feel like they had to let go. It didn’t take much longer before their food was ready and soon enough Ben was nodding as Jed said that they should get out of there. “Sounds good to me,” he nodded, knowing that the idea of being somewhere just the two of them to eat was much more appealing than the idea of sitting in a crowded restaurant where all eyes had been on them only moments before. It didn’t take them long to get back to the van and it was only when they were there that they let go of each other’s hand so they could get everything sorted out. As Jed sorted out the food, Ben grabbed the cooler and set it down near them, taking out two beers and handing one to his boyfriend before closing the lid but keeping it close in case they wanted another later. Opening his beer, he took a sip before starting on his meal and he let out a pleased hum as he tasted the food. “Definitely. This almost gives the restaurants in Mystic Falls a run for their money,” he admitted as he took another bite of his food before shifting his own closer to Jed so they could share the same way they always did. I've become a bit of a mythology buff. Since I'm into a mythological guy that's, you know, buff.

– I freed myself from words never said –
Jed felt a soft smile begin to tug at the corner of his lips at the compliment. "So are you. You're beyond incredible." Jed returned the compliment with sincerity overflowing from his voice. Jed's expression softened at Ben's next words, his attention drifted back to his boyfriend. At home, he wasn't Jed The Alpha, he was just himself which definitely explains the fact that he was a lot more relaxed at home. "Thank you. I guess I just don't have to ac Alpha-y at home. I can just be myself." Jed voiced his thoughts from earlier, his lips stretching into a gentle smile.
"I guess we expected angels to be perfect, but turns out, they have their own issues too. They have their own imperfections." Jed said with a soft sigh falling from his lips. Here he thought angels were forgiving beings, made of light, with little wings and a harp. Turns out, they are mean, unforgiving, and look anything but angelic. "I just hope that they prove both of us wrong and do something to stop your dad before he essentially annihilates all of us."
Jed's brows quirked up at Ben's words as he took a quick glance around to see if there was a bonfire anywhere before something seemed to click in for him as he tried to suppress a smile. "Oh, it can definitely be arranged. Just, uh, find me a dragon. Hah." Jed grinned even though the joke was terrible. "Man, I'm on fire today with these jokes." Why settle for one bad joke when you can have two, right? Jed made a noise that sounded a lot like an offended gasp when Ben teased him about drooling. "Yo, not cool. Don't make fun of me at my weakest moment." Jed said as he pretended to wipe the edge of his mouth even though there was actually no drool, he was just messing around, if the grin that followed was of any indicator.
Jed released a small hum, his eyes scanning the area once again before his attention turned back to Ben. He didn't find it all that weird that they were staring, he just hoped those stares would stay curious and not turn into hostility. "Yeah, exactly. I just hope it stays that way." Jed said with a brief chuckle falling from his lips not long after. He didn't look around for a while after that because he didn't want to make it all too obvious that he knew everyone had a bit of a staring problem. Jed's lips stretched into a grin as he listened to Ben, happy to hear that Ben didn't want to let go of his hand either. Honestly, Jed didn't know he was into the whole 'holding hands' thing until he tried it and he really liked the feeling of holding Ben's hand. It became his favorite thing to do after kissing Ben. "Oh hell no, nothing is ruining our trip." Jed shook his head, refusing to allow such a thing. They were gonna enjoy every last bit of their trip, no matter what.
Jed was all too happy to settle in the van and eat with Ben. The food tasted heavenly, or maybe he was just really hungry, and he felt like having Ben with him made the meal taste a hundred times better. "Right? I'm impressed." As always, they ate together and shared the food and eventually, the beast in Jed's belly was satiated as he sipped his beer, finishing it with a few more gulps. "Oh man, that was pretty good. Not as good as mom's cooking, but it's definitely up high on my list." Jed said with a grin forming on his lips not long after as he relaxed back on his seat, still sitting close to Ben.

Ben hadn’t told Jed that he was incredible so he would say it back but the fact that he did so sincerely was enough to have a smile forming on Ben’s face. “I think you’re a little biased but thank you,” he grinned, leaning forward and pressing his lips lightly against Jed’s. They were both as bad as each other in that respect and Ben was pretty sure that wasn’t going to change. They both knew what it was like not to have anyone else in the world but they had each other now and they had plenty of other people around them as well and Ben really was glad about that. “I can understand that. You have a lot of responsibility with the pack but you’re so good at it. You’re a natural leader,” he said gently. He had seen how much Jed cared about his pack and even though he was thinking about finding someone to take over that role from him Ben knew that his boyfriend would never stop caring about the pack. “They’re definitely not perfect. My father’s views are so twisted but I can’t imagine what must have happened to make him see all of us that way,” Ben admitted. He knew that there had to be more to the story but from what Castiel had said it wasn’t a view that all angels shared so perhaps it was just his father and maybe a few others who felt that way. Either way he had to be stopped and Ben knew that they weren’t going to stop until they managed to do that. “I hope so too but I won’t let anything happen to you, I promise,” Ben assured him. He wasn’t really sure that it was a promise he would be able to keep but he knew that he was definitely going to try. If it came down to a choice then he knew that he would save Jed every time if he could. Ben had already seen him die once and he knew he wasn’t about to let that happen again, let alone at the hands of his own father. As Jed said a bonfire could be arranged he just had to find him a dragon, Ben couldn’t help but laugh. “Definitely not. Seeing you become a Fire Wolf was more than enough,” he chuckled, rolling his eyes playfully as Jed said he was on fire with the jokes. Ben was so used to them by now that they didn’t bother him one bit but he knew that he definitely didn’t want history to repeat itself. “Sorry, how could I forget?” he teased as Jed told him not to make fun of him at his weakest moment. “You’re such a dork,” he grinned. “Same here,” Ben nodded as Jed said he hoped it stayed that way. “We don’t have to worry about monsters anymore so hopefully we won’t have to start watching our backs because of hostile werewolves,” he breathed. They were heading to New Orleans and there were different packs there but he knew that they would be able to find neutral ground to park up. Right now they were much more exposed in a restaurant full of people as they waited for their food but he knew he just had to trust that it would be alright. Seeing the way Jed grinned when he said he didn’t want to let go of his hand either was enough to bring a smile to Ben’s face in return. “This hand is mine, I’m not letting go,” he said, repeating the words Jed had used on a number of occasions before lifting their joined hands and pressing a light kiss to Jed’s knuckles. “Definitely not. This is your first time outside of Mystic Falls and it’s going to be a memorable trip for all the right reasons,” Ben agreed. Ben would be lying if he said he wasn’t much more at ease when they were back in the van once they’d collected their food and he settled in next to Jed the same way he always did. “Same here. We’ll have to remember the name of the place in case we pass through here again,” he nodded. It wasn’t as good as some of the places they went to in Mystic Falls but it was still pretty good. “I don’t think anything will beat your mom’s cooking,” Ben admitted, knowing just how much effort and love she put into all of it. Sitting back in his seat and wrapping his arm around Jed’s shoulders as he did so, Ben finished his beer before hesitating for a moment. “Would you like another or shall we get going and find somewhere to stop for the night?”JED SALTZMAN
