Ben wasn't afraid to admit that he was biased when it came to Jed but he knew that it went both ways because Jed was biased when it came to him as well. It had been that way from the very beginning, even before they had started getting to know each other there had been something there between them and that had only ended up getting stronger as they spent more time together. Jed seemed adamant that his old self wasn't a good guy and perhaps he was right but the truth was that Ben still found it hard to believe. Jed had been so good to him ever since they met and he would be lying if he said he didn't find it difficult to think of Jed any other way. "I'm not sure that's a bad thing," Ben grinned. "You're just as biased when it comes to me." Maybe he did see Jed through rose tinted glasses but he was pretty sure that was only natural given how he felt about him. "You always do right by your pack so it will all work out in the end," Ben assured him. Whoever Jed picked would end up being the perfect person for the job and there really wasn't a doubt in Ben's mind about that. As Jed thanked him, Ben felt a smile touch his lips. "You don't need to thank me. You've supported me through everything, it's about time I had the chance to do the same for you," Ben assured him gently. Jed had been there for him ever since he'd arrived in Mystic Falls and they hadn't always seen eye to eye but they always looked out for each other and if Jed needed someone to talk to then Ben knew he wanted to be that person for him. Hiding who you were was never easy and if Ben was honest he had struggled to let anyone get to know the real him before Jed came along. In the past he had connected with a few people to an extent but the only people he had told about his curse were the ones who agreed to help him as long as he did something for them in return. None of them had been interested in really getting to know him but now he had Jed and their friends and he knew he didn't want to go back to the way things used to be. "I don't think you would suck at it for a minute but it would definitely be better to stay close to the people who know you. That's what I want too," he nodded, knowing that he wasn't ready to be separated from any of their friends yet. "Your parents run the place so you're guaranteed a place as well," he grinned. Ben knew that Jed's parents had started the school to protect their children and help others like them and he wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the students decided to stay on at the college. The moment their lips connected Ben could feel himself growing addicted the same way he always did. It had taken them a while to do anything more than kiss but they were completely comfortable with each other now and Ben knew that he wouldn't have it any other way. Shifting a little closer to Jed, Ben lost himself in the kiss and he was breathless by the time Jed pulled away. It wasn't easy to pull away completely but they had a long journey ahead of them. "I thought you might," he chuckled. It wasn't long before they were back on the road once more and Ben could see just how much he was enjoying it. Ben was quite comfortable letting Jed drive, his gaze every so often drifting from the road to his boyfriend and hours later he looked over at Jed as he said he was getting tired. "As tempting as getting some sleep is we should probably keep going for a bit longer so I can take over if you like. If we get at least most of the way there tonight we'll have the whole day there tomorrow and part of Sunday as well before we have to head back," he suggested, knowing that they weren't going to want to spend too much of the day tomorrow travelling and not end up having much time in New Orleans. "You can get some sleep while I drive if you want to," he offered, knowing that he didn't want Jed to feel like he had to stay awake. JED SALTZMAN

– I freed myself from words never said –
Jed let out a chuckle when Ben told him that he wasn’t sure it was a bad thing to be biased. He shrugged one shoulder to showcase that he also didn’t think it was a bad thing. Ben was correct when he said that he was just as biased when it came to him. “Exactly.” Jed replied with a half-smile tugging at the corner of his lips. He didn’t always do right by his pack, he had failed miserably in the past, that’s for sure. Back then, he didn’t have anyone’s best interest in mind, but ever since he’s come to the realization that he was only following the messed-up ideal type of an Alpha that his father had pretty much engraved into his mind from a young age, he’s been trying to do better. Sure, he had his moments where he choked up and felt like he wasn’t suited to be their alpha, but these moments weren’t very frequent these days. He nodded his head because he believed that too. It was a struggle but he had no doubt that in the end, he will be able to find someone who will be fit for the job. “Okay.” Jed said with a gentle smile when Ben told him there was no need to thank him. He really did appreciate the support.
Jed obviously had his own doubts about going to a college full of humans, well, there may be a few supernatural creatures scattered here and there but they aren’t the majority, unlike the Salvatore school and college. “Yeah, that’s why I wanna go to Salvatore College.” The whole process of making friends all over again… Yeah, maybe not. “You’d think that with my parents running the college, I’d be able to skip a year or two but nope. I have to actually work hard and study. Shame.” Jed joked with a half-smile resting on his lips not long after. “Are you gonna stay on campus in college?” Jed questioned with a hint of curiosity in the tone of his voice.
Jed couldn’t help but feel tired halfway through the drive. It was getting more and more difficult for him to keep his eyes open so he finally said something. He didn’t want to risk falling asleep behind the wheel even though the road ahead was still devoid of any cars. They could still really hurt themselves if they got into an accident. “Alright, I’ll take you up on that offer.” Jed pressed the back of his hand against his mouth to block yet another yawn before he lowered his hand. He carefully parked the van aside and unbuckled his seat so he could switch seats with Ben and once that was done, he buckled his seatbelt once again. “Wake me up if you get tired, yeah? I’ll probably only sleep for an hour or so.” Jed said with a nod of his head following as he leaned his back, shifting a little on his seat to get comfortable. The seat itself was definitely very comfortable. He liked it quite a lot. Jed eventually closed his eyes so he could hopefully get some much-needed sleep.

“I don’t have much experience of being in a relationship but I think being biased comes with the territory,” Ben laughed. He knew that he was biased when it came to Jed and he wasn’t afraid to admit that, it had been that way from the very first day and that feeling had never gone away. Perhaps the old Jed wouldn’t have taken a chance on him like this one had and let him stay at the school but this Jed had changed his life forever so Ben wasn’t really worried about what the old version of him was like. He could see how much Jed was trying to do better by those around him and that really did go a long way as far as Ben was concerned. He hadn’t planned on falling in love when he’d decided to make his way to Mystic Falls but that was exactly what had happened and Ben knew that dwelling on the past wouldn’t do either of them any good. Instead he wanted to make sure that they focused on the future and there wasn’t a doubt in his mind that no matter what was thrown their way they would face it together. Ben still hated his father for what he had one the day before, he had killed Josie and Hope just because he had wanted to and he needed to be stopped but for this weekend at least they were able to leave all of that behind and just focus on being together. “That makes sense,” Ben nodded. “Believe me when I say that starting over is overrated anyway. New people can mean new experiences but I’d rather keep the people I care about close,” he admitted. In the past he had never been able to stay in one place for too long and he’d eventually had to leave everyone he cared about behind him. Now things were different, for the first time he had people around who really cared about him and Hope and Josie had figured out a way to stop the monsters from coming after him so for the first time in as long as he could remember he was free to live his life the way he wanted to. As Jed spoke again, Ben couldn’t help but laugh. “I guess they can pull some strings but not that many,” he chuckled. “I’m sure you’d get bored if they made it that easy for you though,” he added with a grin, knowing that the challenge was part of the fun. As Jed asked if he was going to stay on campus, Ben’s expression turned thoughtful for a moment. “I’m not really sure to be honest, I did think about maybe looking into getting a place in town but I’m not sure I want to be that far away from you on the full moons,” he admitted. “How about you, are you going to carry on living at home?” he asked, not sure what Jed had planned. Truth be told the thought of them getting a place together had crossed his mind but even though they had been through so much already they had only been together for a few months so he wasn’t sure if Jed would think it was too soon. Ben knew that long drives could be tiring so he had offered to take over at any point if Jed wanted him to and Ben was glad that Jed decided to take him up on the offer. It was tempting to find somewhere to pull over now and get a good night’s sleep but if they did that then they wouldn’t end up getting too much time in New Orleans at all. Ben was tempted to join Jed in getting some sleep but instead he decided to keep them moving for a while and he offered Jed a smile as he said he was going to take him up on the offer. “I thought you might at some point,” he nodded. As it was they were about half way there which really wasn’t bad at all. Switching seats with Jed, Ben gave his boyfriend’s hand a gentle squeeze as Jed said to wake him up if he got tired. “I will, don’t worry,” Ben assured him, a smile touching his lips as he glanced over at Jed for a moment before getting them back on the road so they could be on their way. Ben wasn’t sure how long it took for Jed to fall asleep but every so often he found himself glancing over at his boyfriend, unable to deny how cute Jed was when he was sleeping peacefully like he was right now. Jed didn’t mind at all that Ben was biased when it came to him. He was exactly the same way, so he didn’t complain and instead kept the smile on his lips. “I’m the same way.” Jed said with a hint of softness in the tone of his voice. Jed didn’t exactly believe that he’d do a good job if they ever started over. He would have to get used to his new surroundings, make new friends, and find a new balance. So he knew that the Salvatore College was the safest option. There, he could be himself without having to hide what he was. A werewolf. He’d be surrounded by others trying their best to embrace what they were, too. “I feel the same way, too.” Jed agreed with Ben. He was right, starting over was overrated. Staying with others he’d known for the longest time.
“I know, it’s definitely unfortunate.” Jed shook his head in feigned disappointment. “Oh, for sure. I can’t imagine my life with so much leisure like that. I’d probably end up losing my mind or something.” Jed said with a laugh falling from his lips notl ong after. He was quiet as he listened to Ben, his expression turning into a soft one when Ben said that he wasn’t sure he wanted to be that far away from him on the full moons. “That’s totally understandable.” Jed said with a visible tone of softness in his voice. “I appreciate you wanting to stay close, though.” Having Ben close by distracted him from the intense pain of shifting. It made the whole process a lot less lonely, too. He really did appreciate Ben wanting to stay close despite all the risks of him getting hurt. “I’m not sure yet, if I’m being honest. I love living with them, but I wanna be a little more independent, if that makes sense. I might start looking for a place of my own.” Jed revealed, tapping his fingers on the steering wheel. “I’m not one hundred percent sure yet, though. I don’t wanna leave them either.” Maybe finding a place nearby would solve that issue. Either way, he was going to think about it and see what his final decision was going to be. “If I do decide to move out, wanna live with me in my place?” Jed questioned with a hint of curiosity in the tone of his voice.
As much as he wanted to stay up for the rest of the drive, he couldn’t find the energy to do that and so he decided to say something. Jed’s lips stretched into a soft smile as he nodded his head. “Okay, see you in a few hours.” Jed leaned back on his seat and closed his eyes, falling asleep not long after. He didn’t stay asleep for long. It only took a few hours for his eyes to flutter open as he stretched his arms forward before he rubbed the sleep from his eyes. “Mmm, hey.” Jed greeted as he straightened up on his seat. He checked his watch not long after before lifting his hand to his face to stifle his yawn. “How are things going? I didn’t sleep for long, did I?”

For such a long time Ben had been on his own and even though he had seen others who were happy in relationships the truth was that he had never thought that he would find himself in that same position. He had never thought that he would find anyone who would want to be with him considering the curse that he had been carrying around with him for so long but Jed hadn’t been bothered by that at all and Ben truly was grateful to him for that. “I thought you might be,” Ben said, a smile touching his lips as he looked over at his boyfriend. Jed always had his back no matter what. Now they had the chance to start over and Ben had done that so many times but the truth was that this time he didn’t want to. He had finally found his home and now Ben knew that the last thing he wanted was to leave any of the people that he had come to care about behind. As Jed said he felt the same way, Ben nodded. “We’ll probably have to start over at some point but not yet. Even with everything that has happened this is still where we belong.” Ben had always wanted to find somewhere he belonged and he had found just that in Mystic Falls. Jed had said before that he was thinking about becoming immortal but even if he chose not to then Ben knew that he wasn’t going anywhere without Jed. Being a Nephilim meant that Ben wasn’t going to get any older and in time people would start to notice but he knew that they would cross that bridge when they came to it. As Jed spoke again, Ben couldn’t help but laugh. “I really can’t see you as the pampered Prince of the Salvatore School,” he chuckled. Jed had managed to stay grounded and Ben was proud of him for that. “Best to keep busy and no matter what happens we’ll face it together anyway,” he added with a smile. What would happen when they started college Ben wasn’t sure but he hoped that it wouldn’t be too different to high school. As Jed said it was understandable that he wanted to stay close, Ben’s expression softened. “You know I’m not going anywhere, we’re in this together,” Ben assured him. He didn’t like the pain that Jed had to go through on each full moon but it was a part of being a werewolf and Ben knew that when they got together so all he could do was try and e there for Jed as much as he could. “It does make sense,” he nodded as Jed said that he loved living with his family but he wanted to be a bit more independent. “You could always find a place close by, I’m sure they would understand,” he added. Jed’s family had been so understanding of everything that had happened and Ben knew that this wouldn’t be any different. Once again he found his thoughts turning to the idea of the two of them living together but he had felt sure that Jed would think it was too soon so he was surprised when Jed suggested it himself. “To be honest I was thinking of the same thing but I was worried you would think it was too soon,” he admitted, rubbing the back of his neck before looking over at Jed. “I’d love to live with you.” He had never lived with anyone before but the truth was that there wasn’t anything that he would like more. “Sleep well,” Ben said, offering Jed a smile before turning his attention to the road. Ben was starting to feel tired as well but he hadn’t had a day that was as emotionally exhausting as the one that Jed had had the day before so he was able to keep going. It was a few hours later when Jed started to stir and Ben’s expression softened as he looked over at Jed. “Hey, how did you sleep?” he asked, hoping that it had helped. “You were only out for a few hours but we’re making pretty good time,” he admitted, his eyes fixed on the road as he drove. “We should probably stop for something to eat soon and then start looking for somewhere to stay the night. Are you hungry?”JED SALTZMAN

– I freed myself from words never said –
Jed released a small hum in agreement. He knew the time would come where they would have to start over somewhere, probably once they're done with college. For now though, it won't be a problem. For now, they'll stay where they belong with people they knew quite well and he was very content with that. A laugh fell from his lips when Ben told him that he can't see him as the pampered prince of the school. Jed couldn't help but agree. Jed would just not look the part. "Exactly. Life goes on so much quicker when you actually have something to do anyway." Jed explained a moment later with a quick nod of his head following. "And like you said, if anything goes south, we'll face it together." Jed understood that being in an all-supernatural school elevated the risk of finding himself in a dangerous situation, someone could lose control and hurt others or something like that but the risk was worth the reward and so of course, Jed stayed. He embraced his life at the school with open arms and he had no doubt that he was going to do the same once he heads off to college, he'll still feel the same way.
Jed felt a gentle smile tug at the corner of his lips when Jed told him that he wasn't going anywhere. Despite the risks, he still chose to stay and each full moon, he found himself worrying that today might be the day where he'd lose control and hurt Ben, but each time, he woke up the next day to find that he had managed to hold onto every last bit of his control and had avoided hurting Ben. Jed had heard many tales about anchors and despite him having no anchor for the longest time, he was starting to believe that Ben was his anchor. That had to be it, right?
"I was just thinking that. A nice apartment close by so I can visit them when I have the time." Jed said with a nod of his head following. "Oh, I'm pretty sure they will, I never doubted that, but I guess the only reason I haven't decided to leave and find a place on my own yet is because I don't wanna leave all the weight on them. Lizzie can be — a lot to deal with at times, that's not to say that I don't love her, don't get me wrong, I love her. As for Josie, she tends to bottle everything up to the point where I worry she'll just pop one day. Mom and dad have their work and they have so much to do on a day to day basis, so I just worry that if I go, I'll add onto their list of worries, too." Because he won't be under the same roof as them, they won't be able to tell if he was eating well, taking good care of himself and so on. He'd just have to make the conscious decision to reach out to them every day to reassure them that he was doing well.
Jed's brows quirked up when Ben revealed that he had been thinking of the same thing. "Oh, yeah?" Jed's eyes momentarily left the road to look at Ben, his expression softening. "I don't think it's too soon." Jed assured him in a soft voice not long after. "I'd love to live with you, too, Ben." Seems like it was decided then. Jed, truthfully, couldn't wait until they get a place together. It will definitely be an experience.
"Pretty good, actually. I'm pretty convinced that this seat is a lot more comfortable than my actual bed." Jed didn't feel any sore spots in his neck which was pretty good, too. He still sat up properly and rolled his shoulders back to release any tension there. "Okay, that's a relief, then.' Jed looked out the window, his curiosity visible on his face. Jed's attention drifted back to Ben, looking intrigued at the offer to get something to eat. "Oh, man, I'm so hungry I could eat an entire deer." Jed was quick to reply. "Sorry, wolf humor. Yes, let's get something to eat if we spot a place. I'm also fine with gas station food. My stomach doesn't discriminate." Jed said with a quick nod of his head following.

Ben was so used to starting over in a new place but the truth was that he much preferred being able to stay in Mystic Falls. Nowhere had ever felt like home to him the way Mystic Falls did and he knew that it was all because of the people there. He knew that the last thing he wanted to do was to end up leaving them all behind but he knew deep down that sooner or later he wouldn’t have a choice. What would happen then he wasn’t sure but he knew that he just had to hope that they would figure something out. So many of their friends were immortal like Ben was but Jed wasn’t, he was still mortal so he could stay in Mystic Falls his whole life if he wanted to. “At least we’ll have plenty of time before people realise I’m not ageing,” Ben said gently, hoping to make it a little better if he could. He already felt guilty enough about the fact that he would be the reason why Jed would have to leave one day but thankfully they had years ahead of them before they would have to worry about that. He had at least been able to pass himself off as being younger than he actually was so they had time. “Definitely. College will give us something to focus on and I’m sure we’ll find plenty of other things to keep us busy as well,” he grinned. This was all still so new to both of them and Ben knew that there was no telling what would happen when they started college but he was certain that they would make it work. “We will. We’re much stronger when we’re together and we’ll have the others around us too. I don’t think any of them are going to want to start over at a new school where they don’t know anyone now.” The Salvatore School was a safe place for all of them and he knew that the college would be the same. It would have been easy for Ben to wish that there was a way to stop Jed being a werewolf so he wouldn’t have to go through the pain of transforming every full moon but while Ben wanted to stop the pain his boyfriend experienced, he knew that being a werewolf was such a big part of who Jed was. It had helped him find a family that loved him unconditionally and a place where he belonged and that was what had helped shape Jed into the young man that Ben loved with all his heart. Instead every full moon he made sure that he was close by so that Jed wouldn’t have to be alone and it wasn’t a decision that Ben regretted at all. He had seen how difficult it was for Hope to control herself when she was affected by his curse in her wolf form but it was different for Jed and Ben knew that his boyfriend would never hurt him. “Exactly. Family dinner nights could always be a regular thing,” Ben offered, knowing that it would be the easiest way of making sure that Jed and his family still saw each other. “Besides, you’re still going to be at the school they run so you’ll get to see them all the time,” he added. Ben knew that it wouldn’t be the same as living with them but he could definitely understand Jed wanting some independence now that he was going to be graduating soon and Ben knew that if there was anything that he could do in order to help it happen then he would. “Trust me, I know what you mean about Lizzie. She was a little intense the day we met,” Ben admitted. He had known that her heart was in the right place but she had lost control of her magic and even after she had regained it she had kept on changing the subject quite quickly as they were talking. It was a little strange to say the least. “Josie will always have you looking out for her regardless of where you’re living and your parents will always have you to lean on too. They want you to be happy so if you want some space then I’m sure they’ll understand,” he said gently. Ben really had been thinking about the two of them getting a place together but he had honestly thought that Jed would think that it was too soon so needless to say Ben was surprised when Jed revealed that he had been thinking about the same thing as well. “Yeah. I can’t think of anything better than waking up next to you every morning.” It had taken them a while to get to that point but he always slept better with Jed there and he knew that wasn’t going to change. “Really?” he asked, hardly able to believe it that Jed didn’t think it would be too soon after all and that he wanted it too. “Looks like we’re doing it then, we’re moving in together,” he beamed as it finally began to sink in, not sure when he had last felt this happy. The next few hours were quiet as Jed slept but every so often Ben found himself glancing over at his boyfriend nonetheless, unable to get over just how peaceful he seemed right now. Soon enough Jed was back with him, though, and Ben couldn’t help but laugh as Jed said the seat was more comfortable than his bed. “I take it that means you like the van then?” he chuckled. “If the seats up here are that comfortable then I think it’s safe to say we’ll both be getting a good night’s sleep during this trip,” he added with a grin. As Jed said he was so hungry he could eat a deer before saying that was wolf humour, Ben rolled his eyes fondly. “Between wolf humour and the burnt puns I don’t stand a chance,” he teased before his expression turned thoughtful for a moment. “This is your first trip out of Mystic Falls, I think we can do better than gas station food,” Ben assured him. “Shall we find a restaurant or would you rather we get some takeout and eat it here?” he asked, not sure what Jed was in the mood for. – I freed myself from words never said –
Jed's attention drifted to settle on Ben as he processed his words before he gently shook his head. "Don't worry about that. We'll cross that bridge when we come to it." He assured him with a quick nod of his head following. "For now, let's just enjoy the moment." Jed said with a gentle smile tugging at the corner of his lips. Jed was quiet as he listened to Ben before he nodded his head in agreement. "Exactly. We'll have plenty of things to keep us busy." Jed agreed with Ben. Between their studies and them finding things to do in their spare time, he knew they'd never experience a dull moment together. "I couldn't agree more. When I talked to MG about college, he told me he'll be heading to Salvatore College for sure. I haven't discussed the topic with the others yet but I can pretty much tell what their answer's gonna be." Jed said with a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips. It really made him feel better to know that they were all going to be together. They were like a second pack to Jed. They meant a lot to him.
Jed nodded his head, knowing that he was always going to find the time to head over and visit his family once he moves out. He had no doubt that it would wind up being a little weird at first to go to sleep in a strange bed rather than the one back home, but he knew that with time, he'll be able to push through that discomfort. If he were to ever feel homesick, he knew the option to go back and spend time with his family was always on the table. Jed's brows quirked up when Ben mentioned his first interaction with Lizzie, making a slight face. "Oh..." Jed trailed off. "Yeah, she has her moments which can be overwhelming." He still loved her nonetheless. Jed's lips stretched into a small smile as he listened to Ben. "I know. They're the greatest family I could've ever asked for." Jed said with a hint of softness visible in the tone of his voice.
"Try to remember saying that when you wake up to the entire apartment shaking from my snores." Jed joked with a soft chuckle falling from his lips. "I'm just kidding, I don't snore. At least, I don't think I do." Jed assured him a moment later. They had already slept together before in his bedroom anyway. "Yeah, really. I mean, I did become a fire wolf for you, so I'm pretty sure that eliminated all boundaries. So nothing is ever gonna be too soon." Jed teased with a smile tugging at the corner of his lips. He watched the way Ben beamed, his happiness was definitely a good look on him. "We're moving in together." Jed repeated with a soft smile resting on his lips.
"Oh, man, I love it." Jed said with a beaming grin on his lips. "I don't doubt that in the slightest. We'll get plenty of good sleep in here for sure." Jed agreed with a soft chuckle falling from his lips not long after. He laughed when Ben mentioned his burnt puns and his wolf humor. "I just can't help it. Those things come out of my mouth before I can stop 'em." Jed said with a grin resting on his lips.
"Look at you, spoiling me again. In that case, restaurant food it is." Jed said with a quick nod of his head following. He was never one to turn down an offer of good food. "We can bring the food here and eat together. Probably less crowded and less new scents." Jed offered back.

“I know. Just promise me that if anything changes for you then you’ll tell me?” Ben asked gently. He hated knowing that he was the reason why Jed would have to leave his home behind one day and he knew that the last thing he wanted was for Jed to end up resenting him for it. The love they shared was stronger than any that Ben had ever felt before but at the end of the day all he wanted was what was best for Jed and that meant making sure that he didn’t feel like he had to do anything that he didn’t want to do. “Definitely, I’m looking forward to it,” he admitted. “Do you know what you want to study yet?” he asked, unable to deny that he was curious. Ben wasn’t entirely sure what courses they offered that he would be interested in but it was something that he knew he was definitely going to have to look into now. “That’s good, I spoke to Raf about it the other day and he said he’s going to be heading there too,” he explained. It had just ended up coming up in conversation but it had been a relief to say the least. “It will be good to be surrounded by so many familiar faces. Have the pack told you what their plans are after graduation?” he asked, unable to deny that he was curious about what those who were graduating had planned. Ben knew just how important the pack was to Jed so he hoped that they would be sticking around. Ben had grown used to moving around and never really staying in one place for too long so the truth was that staying at the Salvatore School had taken some getting used to but he’d had his own space and he’d had friends nearby so it had ended up being pretty good. One thing Ben hadn’t done for a long time was really start putting down some roots, though, but he knew that he wanted to change that. “You’re right about that. She seemed to snap out of it eventually but I noticed she talks badly about herself sometimes,” he admitted. It had seemed a little strange considering how confident Lizzie seemed normally but he knew that it could just be one of those things. “They’re incredible,” Ben agreed. “To be honest they feel like family to me too.” They’d welcomed him with open arms after he and Jed got together and Ben knew that he was never going to be able to thank them enough for that. As Jed spoke again, Ben couldn’t help but laugh. “You don’t snore that loudly, just the odd little one occasionally. It’s quite adorable actually,” he chuckled. It definitely hadn’t been enough to stop him from getting some sleep, that was for sure. “Do you want to go for an apartment or shall we look for a house?” Ben asked, knowing that money wouldn’t be a problem if Jed wanted to go for something bigger. “Alright, I guess you’ve got a point there,” he chuckled. “You did say you were thinking about becoming a hybrid as well so I know you’re all in.” That was something that they definitely had in common and he really was glad about that. “I can’t believe it,” he breathed as Jed confirmed that they were moving in together. “I should warn you that I haven’t lived with anyone for a very long time so if I do something wrong just tell me,” he warned, knowing that he wanted Jed to be honest with him about that. As Jed said that he loved the van, Ben’s smile returned. “In that case we’ll have to look into getting one when we get back home,” he suggested, knowing that he definitely wouldn’t turn down the chance to go away with Jed like this more often. “Sure they do,” he chuckled. “Luckily I know to expect that from you by now, poor MG looked like he was going to have a heart attack a few times when you tried it with him,” he added with a grin. As Jed said that he was spoiling him again, Ben’s smile softened. “I’ve never been able to do this before so I’m making the most of it,” he admitted before nodding as Jed suggested they get some takeout and eat it in the van. “That works for me, I forgot it might be a bit crazy for you,” he admitted, knowing that that was still going to take some getting used to. “Eating here it is then. Shall we get Chinese or are you in the mood for something else?”JED SALTZMAN

– I freed myself from words never said –
Jed’s lips stretched into a small smile, his eyes relaxing on Ben once again. “Nothing’s gonna change for me, but, to ease your mind, I promise I’ll tell you.” Jed said a moment later. His smile only stretched more when Ben agreed with him. “Honestly, I’m not sure yet. I know I was planning on looking into it in depth later on.” Jed wasn’t sure what the classes were, but he knew that once he took a closer look, he’ll be able to make up his mind. “That’s great.” Jed said with a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips. “Not yet, actually. I was planning on sitting down and talking to them about the whole thing. Then hopefully, I can talk to them about the whole hybrid thing.” Jed revealed, his eyes fixed on the road once again.
“Yeah, it breaks my heart, honestly. But she’s trying her best and that’s what matters.” Jed said with a quick nod of his head following, his eyes relaxing on Ben once again as he offered him a small smile before his eyes relaxed on the road once again. “I’m really glad to hear that.” Jed’s voice was soft as he spoke. He could tell that his family really loved Ben and he was happy that Ben felt like he was a part of their family.
“Oh, I do?” Jed looked surprised to hear that before a chuckle fell from his lips. “Well, that’s good then. Can’t have you not getting enough sleep at night.” He said with a grin on his lips as his laughter subsided. “You know, I’m not too sure. I mean, an apartment would be a good starting point for us, then we can get a house one day. But at the same time, having a house would be good for when I need a safe space to shift. But, I’m not exactly gonna stay a wolf for long either, so I’m not sure.” Jed gnawed on his bottom lip momentarily as he thought about it for a moment. If they were to get an apartment, they could figure out another place for him to shift, it won’t be too much of a hassle. He can attach himself to a tree in the woods to avoid losing control because the last thing he needed on his conscience was to hurt an innocent bystander, or Ben, who often accompanied him during his shifts and sat with him to make sure that he wasn’t alone. “I mean, getting a house might just be the safest option, don’t you think?”
“Exactly.” He pointed out with a grin tugging at his lips when Ben mentioned how he’d decided to become a hybrid as well, so it definitely eliminated all the boundaries. “Oh, please, do whatever you’d like. You won’t hear any complaints from me.” Jed’s shoulders lifted and dropped in a quick shrug, his smile still evident on his lips.
“A man after my own heart.” Jed responded with Ben said they’ll have to look into getting a van once they’re back home. It was definitely a delightful experience so far. Jed liked it a lot. Jed bit down on his bottom lip to suppress the urge to laugh but eventually, he did laugh, especially after imagining MG’s face when he’d first made a joke about becoming a fire wolf. “Oh, man, he was far too easy to tease. I just couldn’t help it.” Jed said with yet another laugh falling from his lips. “But unfortunately, he’s pretty immune to my jokes now, like you. I’m gonna have to find another victim, it seems.” Jed tsked as if disappointed by the fact that they had become immune to his jokes.
Jed’s expression softened at Ben’s words. He was all too happy to let Ben spoil him now. “It’s okay, it’s only with super new places. It just takes a moment to get used to all the scents.” Jed said with a quick nod of his head, his lips stretching into a gentle smile. “Chinese, for sure. I’m craving some spicy food.” Jed was quick to say, never the one to turn down the offer to eat chinese food.

“Thank you, I appreciate that,” Ben said gently as Jed promised to tell him if anything changed for him. “I know neither of us want anything to change but being with me will mean we’ll have to keep moving every so often and believe me when I say that can be more difficult than it sounds. The last thing I want is for you to end up resenting me,” he admitted. He hated that he would be the one to take Jed away from his family at some point but if he was honest there was a part of him that was hoping that they might find a way to stay in Mystic Falls. There were a lot of people in town who were supernatural so there were plenty of people around who weren’t ever going to get any older and Ben had a feeling that none of them would want to move away either so there was still a chance that they might be able to figure something out. “That makes sense. You know I’ll be happy to help and I know your parents will too,” he offered. As Jed said that he was planning on sitting the pack down and talking to them about college and becoming a hybrid, Ben’s breath caught in his throat. “So does that mean you’ve made up your mind about it?” he asked, studying Jed carefully for his reaction. Jed had said that he was going to think about it a lot more before making his decision and he had later said that he was going to find someone suitable to take over as the pack’s alpha after graduation but he hadn’t revealed what he had decided about becoming a hybrid. Ben already knew that he would stay with Jed either way anyway but he couldn’t deny that it was something that he had thought about quite a lot lately. “Definitely. As long as she keeps making an effort it will pay off in the end,” Ben nodded. He knew that Lizzie had been trying and she had made an effort with him that first day so it definitely counted for something as far as he was concerned. “You’ve all been so kind to me,” he said gently. For a long time he had kept feeling like he was just waiting for them all to realise that he wasn’t worth it but that hadn’t happened and they had continued to stand by him no matter what. While he was growing up he’d only ever had his mom and after she died he’d had Ashur and Ashur’s father but that had been it. He had never been a part of a family like this before and it really did mean a lot to him. “Only now and then,” Ben laughed. “To be honest it wouldn’t matter to me even if you did snore loud enough to keep me awake. It would be worth it to wake up next to you each morning,” he added with a shrug. Ben had completely forgotten what it was like to wake up next to someone until Jed came along and he knew that he wouldn’t want to give that up now for anything in the world. As Jed started talking about the kind of place they could go for, Ben’s expression turned thoughtful for a moment. “You’d still have the option to shift so I think you’re right, a house would be safer. It would give us more space as well and we could turn it into a real home,” he nodded. It would also mean that they would have more space for when friends, Jed’s family or the pack decided to visit so that was never going to be a bad thing. It had been a while since Jed had last mentioned that he was thinking about becoming a hybrid so the truth was that Ben hadn’t known whether it was something that he would want to go through with or not. He had promised Jed that there wouldn’t be any pressure from him and that it needed to be completely Jed’s position but just the fact that he was considering it was enough to make Ben realise that Jed was all in and he should have known that moving in together wouldn’t be too soon. “You say that now but it might be different when we’re living together,” he chuckled. Ben had never been a messy person or anything like that and he always tried to be considerate but he knew that he would much rather Jed told him if there was something that ended up annoying him so that he could stop doing it. As Jed said that he was a man after his own heart, a gentle smile touched Ben’s lips and his eyes were full of nothing but love as he looked over at his boyfriend for a moment before turning his attention back to the road. “If it means we can take more trips like this then I’m all for it,” he admitted. They hadn’t even made it to New Orleans yet but the truth was that Ben was already enjoying it and he hoped that Jed was as well. Glancing over at Jed for a moment after he’d brought up MG, Ben could see that Jed was trying hard not to laugh and that was enough to bring a smile to Ben’s face. “I know. His face was a picture,” he grinned. “Who have you got in mind?” he asked as Jed said that he was going to have to find another victim. They really could have gone anywhere to eat but Ben knew that he wanted this to be special so getting something from the gas station just wasn’t going to cut it. He hadn’t thought about how difficult it might be for Jed to be somewhere new, though, and he nodded as Jed said that it took a moment to get used to all the new scents. “I’ll keep that in mind,” he nodded, knowing that he was definitely going to have to try and remember that from now on. “Chinese food it is then, to be honest that’s what I’m in the mood for as well,” he admitted before his expression turned thoughtful for a moment as they approached a road sign. “It looks like we’re coming up to a few towns, why don’t you see if one of them has a place that does Chinese and we can find somewhere to stop for the night? We’re only a couple of hours away from New Orleans, we can always travel the rest of the way in the morning if we don’t want to do it tonight,” he suggested, not sure whether Jed would want to keep going now they were so close or find somewhere to stop. – I freed myself from words never said –
Jed was quiet as he listened to Ben, his eyes momentarily leaving the road to settle on him. “Look, uh, I knew all of this before getting in a relationship with you, trust me. Yet, I still chose to be with you. Thing is, nothing is ever going to stay the same. Not permanently, at least. Things are gonna have to change, people are gonna, at some point, grow apart. Nothing in this world is guaranteed, so if we have to move every now and then, so be it. It’s part of our life. I won’t resent you for it.” Jed’s shoulders lifted in a quick shrug, his smile still evident on his lips as his eyes moved to rest on the road ahead again. “What about you, though? Have you thought about what you wanna study yet?” Jed questioned with a curious look on his face.
“I— Thing is, it’s so difficult to make a decision right away, you know? I have to talk to my family and make sure they’re okay with it, and I have to talk to my pack, too. I don’t want them to feel excluded. They play a huge part in my life, too.” Jed bit down on his inner cheeks, his gaze turning thoughtful for a moment. “I think deep down, I already know the answer, though. I do want to become a hybrid. I’ve been known as Jed, the alpha, for so long now that I kinda forgot who the real me is, if that makes sense. I feel that with becoming a hybrid, I can finally embrace the real me.” Jed had been thinking about it for the longest time now. “And of course, there’s the whole thing about you being immortal and me being mortal. I don’t wanna leave you behind. I— also don’t want to become a burden to you. At some point, if I choose to stay mortal, I’m going to become old and feeble and I just — don’t want that. I wanna stay with you. For good.”
“Exactly. That’s all that matters.” Jed agreed with Ben when he said that as long as she continued making effort, it’ll pay off in the end. Jed’s lips stretched into a grin at Ben’s words, finding them adorable and romantic, too, actually. “In that case, it’s settled then.” Jed said with the same grin still locked on his lips. “I’m looking forward to waking up next to you, too.” It would be such a wonderful way to wake up.
“Then, we’ll go for a house.” Jed said with a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips. “Honestly, I don’t mind where we stay as long as I have you, so.” He definitely won’t complain, no matter what kind of place they get together.
“Oh, c’mon, whatever you do, it can’t be that bad. It’s fine.” Jed said with a laugh falling from his lips not long after when Ben told him that it might be different once they are living together. He found it difficult to believe that Ben was actually capable of doing something that’d make him turn away. Whatever it was, he’d just be happy to have a place to share with Ben.
“Hell yeah.” Jed beamed with a grin on his lips. It was definitely a great way to go on more and more trips. “I’d say that I’m sorry but I’m kinda not.” He could tell after his — momentary trip to the other side — that they were tip-toeing around the subject, careful not to cause him a great deal of sadness but in the end, he found himself making countless jokes about it and eventually, they stopped looking so disturbed and shocked by it. “Adelina, maybe?” Jed suggested with a thoughtful look on his face.
“Look at me, giving you free insight into werewolves, next time, I’ll charge you for those things.” Jed teased with a grin resting on his lips, his eyes relaxing on Ben for a moment. “Chinese it is, then.” Jed said with a grin tugging at the corner of his lips. “Um, let’s find a place to stay for the night. Mom did say to avoid driving at night if we can help it.” Jed decided with a quick nod of his head following.

Other than the fact that he was sneaking off and not returning until whatever monster was coming after him that day had killed him, Ben hadn’t hidden anything from Jed about who he was or what his life was like. Right from the start there had been something about Jed that had made him know that he could open up to him and he hadn’t had a problem doing that. They’d talked about the future and what it was going to look like before but Ben knew all too well that reality could be very different to the way someone imagined things would be. Jed meant the world to him so he knew that the last thing he wanted was for Jed to end up resenting him for taking him away from his family and home one day. Ben had always been honest about the fact that he would have to move away one day since he didn’t age and Jed had chosen to be with him anyway but there was still sometimes that niggling voice in the back of his mind telling him that one day Jed might feel differently. As Jed spoke, however, Ben could tell that he meant every word and that really did mean a lot to him. “You’re incredible, you know that?” he asked, his eyes full of love for Jed as he looked over at him. “I know you knew all about it before we got together but like you said things change although I don’t want what’s going on between us to ever be one of those things,” he admitted. It was difficult to put it into words but he knew that he just had to trust what Jed was saying and believe that he would say if anything did ever change. As Jed asked if he’d thought about what he wanted to study yet, Ben shook his head. “Not really. I don’t know what all of the courses are, I might need to speak to your parents to get a better idea of what would be the best fit,” he shrugged. Ben wasn’t afraid to put in the hard work but he knew that there were courses that wouldn’t be right for him so it was just a case of finding the right one. The way Jed had talked about becoming a hybrid had surprised Ben considering that the last he knew Jed had been thinking about it but hadn’t made a decision. As Jed explained what was going through his mind, though, Ben found himself nodding. “I do understand, you have a lot of people to consider,” he said gently. Any contact they could have was limited since Jed was still driving but Ben reached over and gave his hand a light squeeze. “At the end of the day you need to do what’s best for you and if you think that becoming a hybrid will help you find yourself again then you should do it. I know the people who care about you will support your decision whichever way it goes,” he added. Things had changed now that Josie was a heretic, Jed’s parents already had one immortal child now and they had Elena as well. Things were already somewhat different for the family but Jed’s parents had accepted the two of them being together and Ben wouldn’t be surprised if they already at least suspected what Jed had been thinking about. As Jed said he didn’t want to be a burden on him, Ben’s expression softened before his heart skipped a beat when Jed said he wanted to stay with him for good. “I want you to stay with me for good too,” he admitted, knowing that he wanted nothing more. Losing Ashur had devastated him and what Ben felt for him had paled in comparison to how much he loved Jed. Just the thought of losing him was enough to break his heart. “For the record though, you would never be a burden to me. I knew what I was getting into with you when we got together too and if you choose to stay mortal then I’ll still be there with you all the way,” Ben assured him, not wanting Jed to doubt that for a minute. Ben hadn’t thought that he would find anyone he would ever feel this way about let alone that that person would accept him for who he was and want to be with him anyway. Jed had changed everything, though, and the truth was that Ben couldn’t wait to move in with him. “It looks like it,” Ben grinned as Jed said that it was settled. “After waking up next to you every morning for a few days I won’t want to wake up alone again.” Ben had been on his own for such a long time and the truth was that he and Jed had spent a few nights together so far but it was awkward considering that Jed lived with his family and Ben was staying at the school. Moving in together would solve that for them, though and he couldn’t wait. “You can be so sweet when you want to be,” Ben said, a smile touching his lips as Jed said he didn’t mind whether they went for a house or an apartment as long as he had him. “We’ll go for a house, it will be better for us in the long run,” he nodded. “Alright,” Ben chuckled as Jed said that it would be fine. This was something new for both of them but Ben knew that they would figure it out the same way they had everything else. “Look at us thinking about the future,” he grinned. They’d already decided on a house and campervan and Ben hoped that at some point getting married and starting a family would be on the cards for them as well. “I know you’re not,” he chuckled. As Jed said he might try his jokes on Adelina next, Ben couldn’t help but smile. “Now that I would like to see,” he teased. “Call it one of the perks of dating an experienced werewolf,” Ben chuckled as Jed said that he was getting free insight into werewolves. “Besides, you know I only want to learn as much as I can because of you,” he added, offering Jed a smile as he glanced over at him. Ben had crossed paths with werewolves before but he’d never had much of a reason to want to learn more about them until now. “Perfect,” he nodded as they settled on Chinese food. “Alright, it won’t take us too long to get to the next town,” Ben said, getting them there and then pulling over at the side of the road once they’d reached the centre of town. “Where’s shall we go for something to eat?” he asked, hoping that Jed had been able to find somewhere. – I freed myself from words never said –
Jed's lips stretched into a soft smile when Ben called him incredible. It was a compliment that easily melted his heart a bit. "Don't worry, I don't see what we have going anywhere." Jed assured him in a soft voice. He released a soft hum as he listened to Ben before he nodded his head a few times in agreement. "That sounds like a good idea. They'll be able to help you decide, for sure." Jed agreed with Ben, knowing that he will probably wind up doing the same thing, too. It would definitely help him make up his mind a lot faster.
Jed was relieved to hear that Ben understood where he was coming from. But then again, he wasn't exactly surprised by that. Ben always understood him, sometimes he didn't even have to say much for Ben to catch onto what he wanted to say. "I just have to make sure that by becoming a hybrid, I'm not becoming the worst version of myself. I do have a thing where big changes kinda terrify me a bit." He had run away after taking his father's life, and he had also distanced himself from Ben when he realized that he felt something for him. He didn't want to accidentally shut everyone out if he were to turn into a hybrid.
A soft smile began tugging at the corner of his lips when Ben told him that he wanted him to stay with him for good. Jed wanted nothing more, honestly. Not having to worry about Ben outliving him and experiencing grief, for a second time, would definitely ease a lot of weight off his shoulders. He blinked out of his thoughts when he heard Ben's voice again and his eyes came to rest on him, his lips stretching into a soft smile. "Oh. That's very sweet of you." Ben's words were more than enough to make his heart flutter in the nicest way possible. It really did mean a lot to him to hear him say that.
"Honestly, I feel the same way. I got used to waking up next to you that going back to waking on my own will feel really strange." He'd grown used to feeling Ben's arms wrapped around him, keeping him safe. He enjoyed it, quite a lot, actually. Jed let out a soft chuckle at Ben's compliment. "Why thank you." When Ben decided on a house, Jed agreed with a nod of his head following. "Definitely. A house it is, then."
"I know right? Look at us, all grown up. I'm proud of us." Jed joked with a laugh falling from his lips when Ben pointed out the fact that they were thinking about their future. "Oh, man, I'm gonna have so much fun with that. Let's just hope that I don't become fire-wolf 2.0 because she is a dragon, too." Jed breathed out a chuckle. He wasn't actually concerned, though. He knew Adelina all too well.
A brief chuckle fell from his lips. "Is that your way of sweet-talking me into giving you free insight because I gotta say, it's definitely working." Jed teased in a light-hearted manner. It wasn't long before his expression was softening as he listened to Ben. "Okay, you're definitely getting free insight now. Damn. That was pretty sweet." Jed said with a chuckle falling from his lips. He'd spent so long looking into nephilims and angels because of Ben, too. So the fact that Ben wanted to learn more about werewolves was pretty sweet. "Alright, perfect." Jed replied when Ben told him that it won't take too long to get to the next town. In the meantime, Jed pulled out his phone to do a quick research of the restaurants open at this time.
Luckily, he'd managed to find a Chinese restaurant close by. When Ben pulled over, Jed unbuckled his seatbelt. "Okay, it should be at the end of this street on our left. About a twenty-minute walk, so not that far away." Jed pointed in the direction that they should take. "C'mon," Jed encouraged as he hopped out of the van, releasing a soft sigh as he stretched his limbs. It was a much-needed stretch after sitting for hours. Jed fixed his clothes not long after and met Ben half-way. "Gotta say, this town actually looks pretty nice." Jed commented as he looked around him, appreciating the new scenery while walking with Ben on the sidewalk, Ben's hand clasped in his own.

“Neither do I. I waited a long time to find you, the way I feel about you isn’t going to change,” Ben assured him. It had been thousands of years since he had lost Ashur and during that time Ben had made friends and he’d had some one night stands along the way but he had never truly let anyone get to know the real him. He hadn’t thought that he would ever be able to open his heart up like that again but Jed had proved him wrong and from that very first day Ben had trusted him. Everything had changed the day they met and Ben knew that he didn’t want to go back to the way things used to be. “I hope so. I’m not sure what I would do otherwise so college seems like a good idea,” he nodded. He had never been able to stay in one place for long enough to even think about getting a job but now he had built a life for himself and he wanted to keep it that way. “I’m sure they’ll be able to help you as well if you need it,” he added. “Perhaps we could talk to them together if you like.” As long as they both figured out what they wanted to do he knew that it wouldn’t really matter. As Jed said that he had a thing where big changes terrified him, Ben found himself nodding in understanding. “I get that. Just know that I wouldn’t let you lose yourself and neither would your family or the squad. We all love you and we’d never give up on you,” Ben said gently. He knew that Jed had kept his distance after he’d realised that there was something there between them and that had hurt but Ben knew better than to let Jed do that again. Back then he’d wanted to give the guy space rather than trying to push him because he hadn’t for one moment thought that Jed felt the same or that he would be ready to admit it even if he did but they had come a long way since then. Ben meant it when he said that he wanted Jed to stay with him but if he chose to stay mortal then Ben knew that he would try and find a way to make sure that he wouldn’t have to live without Jed for too long. He had spent such a long time on his own and he had always been fine with that but now it was different. Now he knew what it was like to love Jed and be loved by him in return and that was something that Ben knew that he didn’t want to have to live without again. “It’s the truth. No matter what you decide I’m not going anywhere. You’re stuck with me,” Ben assured him. Jed’s next words were enough to draw a gentle smile to Ben’s lips. “In that case why don’t we do something about it? I know it will take us a while to find the perfect place to live but until then why don’t you spend a few more nights with me at the school and if your family don’t mind then perhaps I could spend more time at yours as well?” he suggested. Truth be told now he knew how it felt to wake up with Jed in his arms in the morning it was something that he missed whenever he wasn’t there. “We’ve definitely come a long way,” Ben chuckled. It was strange to think that it had only been a few months since Jed had come into his life because the truth was it felt like it had been so much longer than that. Ben had never known a love like this before but now he had it he knew that he wanted to enjoy every moment of it. As Jed spoke again, Ben couldn’t help but laugh. “On second thought perhaps she isn’t the best person for it after all. I’d rather not have my boyfriend barbecued again,” he teased, a smile on his face as he looked over at Jed. “It might be,” Ben grinned as Jed asked if that was his way of sweet talking him into giving away information about werewolves. “It works both ways, I’m going to learn as much as I can about my powers, nephilims and angels too and I’ll share that with you,” he added, knowing that he couldn’t expect to get that information for nothing. He knew that Jed had done his own research as well but it was difficult to know what was fact and what was fiction and they’d already found that out the hard way with his father. As Jed said he was definitely getting free insight now and that what he’d said was pretty sweet, Ben couldn’t help but laugh. “I’m glad you think so because it’s the truth,” he chuckled. “Being a werewolf is a part of who you are and that won’t change even if you become a hybrid so I want to learn as much as I can.” Ben knew that it was only a part of who Jed was just like being an Alpha was only a part of him. Neither of those things defined him as far as Ben was concerned because there was so much more to Jed than that but Ben wanted to get to know every side of him. The drive to the next town didn’t take them too long at all and Ben soon pulled the van over. Unbuckling his seatbelt, Ben nodded as Jed said it was about a twenty minute walk. “Alright, perfect. It looks like it’s a nice night for it,” he admitted before climbing out of the van and closing the door. It felt good to be able to move again after being in the same position for so long and it wasn’t long before they were walking hand in hand down the street. “It does. It doesn’t quite have the same homely feel to it that Mystic Falls does but it’ll be a nice place to spend the night,” he agreed. “So, are you enjoying the trip so far?” he asked, hoping that the answer to that question would be yes. They hadn’t reached their destination yet but Ben knew that the journey was just as important and truth be told he was enjoying spending so much time alone with Jed. JED SALTZMAN
