– I freed myself from words never said –
Jed had never seen anything like it before. The way that the students acted like rabid animals. He'd tried to reason one of them but she had ended up lunging straight at him as if she saw right through him. As if she didn't recognize him despite the fact that she had been one of Jed's closest friends. He barely had time to brace himself for the attack and before he knew it, blood was spilled. Both his own and hers and Jed watched helplessly as it took four witches to get her to get off of him. Jed scrambled back before he got up on his own two feet. Jed watched as they struggled to get the infected student downstairs where they'd put her in one of the cells just until they got the chance to wrap their heads around what was happening.
In the end, they had managed to survive the merciless attack but Jed didn't feel victorious because Raziel was nowhere to be seen and this felt like an introduction to the hell that the angel was going to put them through. A hell that he was going to let his friends and loved ones face alone because he... He was infected.
“What's that?” Romeo asked out loud, his eyes zeroed on Jed as he frowned at his hand. “Wait — Is that her blood?” Romeo continued, causing a few panicked sounds to escape the other students as they all looked at Jed as if they were waiting for him to lunge, to carry on the attacks and the destruction. “No, I—” Jed began, his lips parting and closing a few times. He watched as the students stepped back and away from him. “You — You're infected, aren't you?” Romeo carried on, sounding genuinely terrified which caused even more panic. “How do we know that you didn't just i-infected us all? Oh my god... Am I gonna die?” One of the students said out loud and the hysteria only got worse from there. “You're not. You're going to be okay. I promise. I— I will leave.” Jed promised, holding his hands up in a mock surrender gesture as he slowly stepped back, failing to notice the small smirk that tugged on the corner of Romeo's lips as he watched Jed willingly head downstairs to the room where the cells were. Inside, there were the other infected students and they hissed and lunged at the bars at the mere sight of him only to stop when they sniffed the air and they seemed to calm down afterwards.
“Fuck...” It could mean one thing, huh? He was really done for.
There was a selfish urge to seek his husband but he held back because that mere action could cost him a lot and he can't put his husband through something like that. If he was really infected, there was no reason for him to infect his husband, too. He can't lose him. Not like this. Jed reached into his pocket for the keys and stepped inside one of the free cells, locking the door behind him before tossing the key away as far away as possible. He moved back before sitting down with a defeated sigh falling from his lips as he held his head between his hands.

When Ben first arrived at the Salvatore School, he had worried that his curse threatened everyone at the school. He had offered to leave to keep them all safe but Jed had convinced him to stay and eventually Hope and Josie had found a way to block the affects of the curse. It only worked while he was wearing the bracelet they had made him but it was so much better than what Ben had faced before. It had given him the chance to live his life normally for the first time in thousands of years and he had found his place at the school and with the Squad. He and Jed were getting married and even though they had agreed to hold off on doing that until they stopped Raziel, it was something to look forward to at least. Ever since Raziel first attacked it had felt like they were all holding their breath waiting for the next attack to come but that day what happened definitely wasn’t what Ben had imagined. It had all started out pretty normally until students started attacking each other. He had never seen anything like it before and he did his best to help with breaking up the fighting but there seemed to be so many of them and to start with it felt like they were fighting a losing battle. He worked with Raf and Adelina to get one of the students down to the cells before heading back upstairs. The students seemed rabid but one good thing was that those affected by whatever it was didn’t seem to be attacking themselves. As he made his way through the corridor he could already see that there were a lot of students who were tired from fighting but thankfully none of them seemed too badly hurt although he still checked on them as he went. He caught sight of Hope and Josie helping one of the students and he offered them a small smile but they weren’t who he was looking for. He hadn’t seen Jed in all the fighting and he wanted to make sure that his fiancé was alright. It was no secret that Ben was protective of Jed but it worked both ways and after everything that they had been through, he knew that everyone who mattered to them understood. Unfortunately Jed was nowhere to be found and in the end he started asking the other students where he was. As a girl said he had gone down to the cells because he might have been infected like the others, Ben’s heart sank and he took off at a run. The students they had locked away down there hadn’t even recognised their closest friends or siblings and the idea of what happening to Jed as well terrified him. Reaching the stairs to the cells, Ben had to prepare himself for what he might find but if the worst had happened then he knew that he and the others would find a way to deal with it the same way they always did. He wasn’t going to lose Jed, not again. Pushing the door open, he made his way down the stairs and caught sight of Jed straight away. “No,” he breathed, ignoring the way the other students started trying to reach for him through the bars of their cells as he made his way over to the cell that Jed was in. He could see a key on the floor but right now all he was focused on was Jed and he let his hands rest against the bars as he looked over at him. He wanted to reach for Jed but he needed to know how things stood first. “Jed, what happened?” he asked, his voice shaking slightly as their eyes met. “How are you feeling?”JED SALTZMAN

Jed's leg bounced nervously as he waited — waited for what? He wasn't entirely sure. Maybe he was just waiting for any kind of sign that he was infected, that they were right and he had almost put everyone's life in danger by not getting behind those bars a lot quicker. He looked up at the other students, watching them through worried eyes as he expected himself to immediately show symptoms just from seeing them act that way. Though nothing ever changed and he just stared at them, waiting for his moment too. It was the wait that made him feel so anxious but his anxiety nearly evaporated in an instant upon seeing Ben. “Ben,” Jed called out as he stood up, nearly overcome with the urge to close the distance and get as close as possible to the bars so he could seek his touch — anything — but he forced himself to remain rooted.
“You shouldn't be here.” Jed pleaded, his fists clenched by his sides before he uncurled his fingers to show the blood on the palm of his hand, his wound already healed by now. “I'm infected.” Jed replied as he thumbed at the ghost of the wound with a sigh falling from his lips. “At least, that's what they — I think.” He'd considered it before Romeo had called him out on it. A brief moment where he wondered just what if whatever they've got can be transferred through blood?
What if whatever was running through their veins was currently getting pumped into his own?
“I don't—” Jed trailed off with a small frown as he tried to think if he was feeling any different but everything remained the same except for the worry gnawing at the pit of his stomach. “I don't feel any different. But, that's still not enough. I can't leave and you can't be here. Please, Ben. You need to get away from here. From me.”

The moment Ben had heard that Jed had gone down to the cells where the infected students were being held until they could find a way to cure them, he felt sick to his stomach. Right now they had no idea what was wrong with the students let alone how to cure them and the thought of Jed being infected as well terrified him. They had already faced so much and they still had to face Raziel so Ben knew that something like this couldn't separate them now, it was far too cruel. They were finally happy, they had decided not to get married until they had stopped Ben's father once and for all but they still had so much that neither of them thought that they would get and Ben knew that was something to fight for. His heart sank as his gaze came to rest on Jed in the cell but he forced a small smile to his lips as he made his way down the stairs. "Hey, baby," he breathed. He could see the way Jed got to his feet and then stayed where he was and in that moment Ben couldn't stop himself any longer, he reached his arms through the bars and held his hands out to Jed. "Where else would I be?" he asked, his expression softening as he looked over at Jed. He knew that being here was risky, they had no idea how the virus was transferred from one person to another or who could be affected by it but he knew that he didn't want Jed to be alone. Ben's breath caught in his throat as Jed showed him the blood on his hand and Ben bit his bottom lip before shaking his head. "You don’t know that, we have no idea how this is transmitted yet," Ben said, needing to believe that himself. Entering the body through the bloodstream was the quickest way for something to spread but Ben refused to believe that Jed was infected. "That's good," Ben said, nodding reassuringly as Jed said he didn't feel any different. "You can't leave yet. You could be just fine, we just need to wait it out and see," he said gently. How long they would have to wait for he wasn't sure but one thing he did know was that he wasn't going to leave Jed to go through this on his own. "I'm not going anywhere," he said, hearing the stubbornness in his own voice as he said it. "For better or worse, in sickness and in health, right?" he asked, his eyes locked on Jed's as he spoke. They might not have made those vows yet but they were already living by them as far as Ben was concerned and he knew that he wasn't going to abandon Jed now. JED SALTZMAN

Jed's lips parted to let out a soft relieved sigh just from looking at Ben alone because the fact that he was here meant that he was okay. Everyone had ended up getting pulled away from the other when the attack first began as they tried their best to get the situation out of control before it could get any worse. He watched as Ben stepped closer to the bars and held his hands out for him. It weakened his resolve and as much as he wanted to keep the distance, Jed was nothing but a weak man when it came to his fiancé. He moved closer and held Ben's hands in his own, another relieved sigh falling from his lips.
Jed knew that his fiancé was stubborn, especially when it came to him and he knew that no matter how many times he could warn him about staying close like this, Ben wasn't going to leave without him. “Somewhere safer, Ben.” Jed stressed, his eyes fixed on his fiancé. “But I could be. That's why I can't take the risk.” Jed said with a light shake of his head following because even though he wasn't entirely sure that he was infected, there was still the lingering question of: What if?
And he can't risk it. He can't risk going around and spreading whatever he has onto the others. “Yeah. It's just the wait that's killing me.” Jed admitted with a trembling breath falling from his lips not long after. “Ben,” Jed replied when Ben told him that he wasn't going anywhere. “Now is not the time to be stubborn. Not about this. I can't risk having anything bad happen to you.” Jed's expression softened at Ben's words and even though they haven't exchanged the vows yet, it was enough to make the frown lines disappear and his shoulders sagged in defeat which only meant one thing: he wasn't going to keep trying to get Ben to leave because he knew all too well that his fiancé wasn't going to go anywhere. “I just don't want you to get sick. Especially with them being here too. You said it yourself, we don't know how this can be transmitted, what if being in the same room is enough?” Jed squeezed Ben's hands as he said those words, his eyes fixed on him.

Deep down Ben had known that it was too good to be true that they all might have made it through the attack without being infected themselves. The squad always threw themselves into the thick of whatever was going on and Ben was proud to be a part of that but he couldn’t deny that looking at Jed through the bars of the cell right now was enough to scare him. What Ben wanted to do more than anything was to wrap his arms around Jed and protect him from everything that was going on but he knew that he couldn’t do that. He and Jed had made a promise that they wouldn’t keep any secrets from each other anymore and that whatever happened they would head it together face on and that was a promise that they were both sticking to. The best Ben could do for the time being was reach out his hands to Jed and he couldn’t deny that he felt much better as Jed moved closer and held his hands and Ben gave his fiancé’s hands a gentle squeeze. Whether Jed was infected or not, they would figure it out together. As Jed said that he could be somewhere safer, Ben shook his head. “If you remember I said the same thing to you the day the dragon attacked. You wouldn’t leave me then and I’m not leaving you now,” Ben assured him. He knew he was stubborn but his mind was already made up about this and nothing Jed said was going to change it. Ben felt a rueful smile touch his lips as Jed said he couldn’t take the risk. “I get that. You’re doing the right thing protecting everyone else the same way you always do,” he said gently. Of course Jed had locked himself away as soon as he had realised that he might be infected, that was exactly the kind of thing that he would do and Ben loved him for it. “I can imagine but you don’t have to do this alone,” Ben promised. He knew this couldn’t be easy for Jed just waiting to see whether or not he was infected by the virus, they had no idea how long it took to take hold of a person so all they could do was wait and see if Jed showed any symptoms of being affected. He knew that whatever Jed was about to say was serious from the way Jed said his name. Jed could be stubborn at times but so could Ben and he knew that he wasn’t going to let Jed talk him into leaving him to go through this alone. “And what about you? Do you think I’m really going to just leave you here alone?” he asked. He wouldn’t do that, he couldn’t. He could see the way Jed’s expression softened when he said the vows they would be reciting when they were finally able to get married and Ben knew that Jed wasn’t going to argue with him any longer. They might not have made those vows yet but they were something that they had been living by from the day they got together and Ben knew that he wasn’t going to break them now. “If it is then chances are I’m already infected. I know you’re just trying to protect me but we’re in this together, always,” he said, squeezing Jed’s hands in return. “Is that the key for your cell?” he asked as he nodded in the direction of the key that he had seen laying on the floor when he arrived. Jed pursed his lips because he knew that Ben had a point. There had been a few instances where danger was looming over them but he had still decided to stay with Ben because staying him felt like a no brainer for him. It didn't feel like something that he shouldn't do. He wanted to be with him, despite the danger of it all and now it seemed like Ben was feeling the same exact way.
"Anyone ever tell you how stubborn you are?" Jed breathed out with no real malice in his words, if anything, there was a brief chuckle that left his lips as he dipped his head down, weighing down the options. It seemed like Ben had already made up his mind about leaving and he wasn't going to be able to make him change his mind because if there was one thing that Ben was going to pick over his own safety, it would be Jed. Truth be told, if their positions were reversed, Jed would be staying rooted in his own spot, too, so he understood. He understood why Ben was choosing to stay despite it all.
Jed expression softened at Ben's next words before he released a soft sigh because as much as he wanted to push Ben away, he knew all too well that he wasn't going to leave and honestly, having him around was already elevating a lot of the anxiety he'd been experiencing. "No, I don't think you will." Jed commented, knowing just how stubborn Ben was so the chances of him leaving were slim to none. "I just know you." Jed added a moment later with a brief chuckle falling from his lips.
"Shit. Okay. Fine. You win. You can stay with me but if anything happens to you, I don't know if I will ever be able to forgive myself for it." Ben meant too much to him. He glanced over at the abandoned key before nodding his head. "I just thought it was safer that way." Jed confirmed with a nod of his head following. "I'm thinking staying here for a day will be enough. But then again, I have no idea what this virus even is. It's terrifying, Have you ever seen anything like it?"

Ben understood why Jed didn’t want him to be there, Jed was worried about him the same way as usual but Ben’s mind was already made up. Jed had refused to leave him when the dragon had attacked them and Ben knew that he wasn’t going to go anywhere now. They didn’t know whether Jed was affected by the virus or not and there was no telling how long they were going to have to wait to find out but Ben knew that he was going to stay by Jed’s side whether he liked it or not. Ben knew they were all at risk of being infected, apparently anyone who was supernatural could fall prey to the virus and lose themselves just like the students locked up in the other cells had been but Ben knew that there was no way that he was going to leave Jed to go through that agonising wait alone. As Jed asked whether anyone had ever told him how stubborn he was, Ben couldn’t help but laugh. “You’ve told me a few times,” he chuckled. He knew that Jed didn’t mean anything by it so Ben didn’t take it to heart. Right now he was too worried about Jed to even think about anything else and he had a feeling that Jed could see that. He could already see Jed’s resolve was wavering and Ben felt a small smile touch his lips as he watched Jed’s expression softened. He completely understood why Jed had tried to get him to leave because Ben would have done exactly the same thing and had tried to do just that when the dragon showed up that day but Jed had stayed where he was and he had pushed Ben out of the way. Jed had sacrificed himself to save Ben even though he had known that Ben would come back and now Ben couldn’t help but feel like perhaps it was his turn to do the same. He was a nephilim so he wasn’t even sure whether the virus would affect him but even if it did then he knew that it would be worth it to stay by Jed’s side and make sure that he wasn’t alone. “You’re right, you know me too well,” Ben nodded although he didn’t think that was a bad thing. “I’m not leaving you,” he repeated, needing Jed to believe that. He knew that Jed had been let down by his father in the past before the Saltzmans took him in but Ben was never going to make that same mistake. “Don’t worry about me, this is my decision so it’s not on you. If anything happens then we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it,” Ben assured him gently. He knew that probably wouldn’t ease Jed’s mind much as Ben knew that he would have blamed himself if the roles were reversed and anything happened to Jed but it wasn’t going to change his mind about being there for his fiancé. “I get that. That way you won’t be tempted to escape,” he nodded. As Jed asked if he had ever seen anything like this virus before, Ben’s expression turned thoughtful for a moment. “Years ago I was passing through a town in Oregon and humans were infected with a virus that turned them into rabid animals. They looked a lot like them,” he said, nodding in the direction of the other students in the cage. “It took a few hours for that virus to take hold so if this is anything like that then a day should be plenty,” he said, giving Jed’s hands a gentle squeeze as he spoke. “Will you let me wait in there with you?” he asked, knowing that he would much rather hold Jed while they waited but if Jed wanted to keep some distance between them just in case then Ben knew that he would respect that. – I freed myself from words never said –
Jed rolled his eyes but there was a fond smile tugging at the corner of his lips. Jed couldn't deny that he was feeling a bit anxious. He hated this waiting game. But having Ben here really did help and so, he was grateful for it. They have yet to exchange their vows, but it seems that Ben was here to show him that he meant every word, especially them being together in sickness and health with now being a testament to the sickness part. It made him want nothing more than to spill those vows sooner because he knew he'd mean every single one of them, too.
"Okay." Jed eventually relented, bottom lip caught between his teeth as he tried his best to really think about how he feels right now but so far, nothing feels alarmingly different. The only thing he was feeling right now was anxiety and it was due to the whole waiting game. "Shit, seriously?" Jed asked with wide eyes when Ben revealed that he had passed through something similar. "Was there ever a cure for it?" He asked with a hint of hopefulness in his voice because it seems that the virus didn't spread out or they wouldn't be here right now.
It'd be like an episode of the Walking Dead out there in the world. But, then again, maybe it just became contained instead rather than cured. "Honestly, I don't think my heart could handle waiting for a whole day to know if I'm infected or not. I already feel so anxious." Jed admitted with a humorless chuckle following, one hand moving to rest over his own chest. Having Ben with him in the cell would definitely help calm him down but then again, having him in the cell would mean that Jed would also have a higher chance to hurt Ben severely if he were to turn into something that's not himself.
Jed considered it for a few moments, feeling a bit conflicted between following his heart or his brain. "We shouldn't..." Jed in the end managed to say. "But..." He said after a moment. "You can come in if you promise me to keep the key with you the whole time and to get out if I start getting sick." Jed's eyes remained fixed on Ben. "Promise me and you can come in here with me." Jed pleaded, his eyes still on Ben. "I just need to know that my family will be in safe hands if something actually happens to me. I know that this isn't the type of talk you wanna hear from me right now, but... Please, Ben. I need to know that you won't be harmed, either."

The smile that formed on Jed's face when Ben told him that he had told him he was stubborn a few times was enough to make a similar smile form on Ben's lips in return. Ben knew that he was stubborn and Jed was as well so they were definitely alike in that respect. They hadn't exchanged their vows yet but Ben couldn't wait to do that once this was all over. He had never met anyone like Jed before, it had taken him five thousand years but he honestly believed that he had found his missing piece. Jed was his soul mate in every sense of the word and Ben knew that they just needed to get through this and the fight against Raziel and then they could start focusing on their future together. Ben didn't know how this with the virus was going to play out right now but he knew he just had to believe that Jed would be fine. "I'm glad that's settled," Ben said gently. He understood where Jed was coming from, it was the same protective instinct that had seen Jed push him out of the way of the dragon's fire the day it attacked. Jed wanted to keep him safe even though he knew Ben would come back and Ben loved him for it but he knew he wasn't going to let Jed go through this alone. "Seriously," he nodded. He had only been passing through Oregon at the time but he had seen the devastation that had been caused during that time. As Jed asked if there was a cure, Ben hesitated for a moment before deciding to be honest with him. "I'm not sure, the people who were infected suddenly disappeared so I don't know what happened to them," he said before squeezing Jed's hands reassuringly. "I don't want you to worry, we have the best witches and warlocks here that I've ever met and I know they'll find a cure." There really wasn't a doubt in his mind about that, he just hoped Jed wasn't infected. As Jed said he already felt anxious and didn't think he could wait a day to see if he was infected, Ben's expression softened. "I understand. It must be awful for you," he said gently. He wasn't sure how long Jed had been there for before he showed up but the wait was bad enough for Ben right now waiting to see if his fiance was infected so he could only imagine what it was like for Jed. There was a part of Ben that had thought that Jed would instantly dismiss his suggestion of waiting in the cell with him but Ben's heart still sank when Jed said that they shouldn't. The way his voice trailed off was enough to give Ben a little hope, though, and Ben met Jed's gaze as he said he could join him if he kept the key with him and left the moment Jed started showing symptoms. Ben wanted to protest and say that if anything happened then he would come back anyway but he knew that wouldn't help Jed right now. Ben could see just how important this was to Jed and even though even the thought about leaving Jed alone in there was enough to make his heart ache, Ben knew it was a promise he had to keep. "I promise," he said at last. "I'll keep the key with me and if you start showing symptoms then I'll get out of there. I won't let anything happen to your family, I give you my word," Ben said, knowing Jed would know that by doing so he wouldn't break his promise. Lifting Jed's hand to his lips, Ben kissed his knuckles gently before going to retrieve the key. Once he had it he unlocked the cell and stepped inside before closing the door and locking it. With that done he slipped the key into his pocket and wrapped his arms around Jed. "You're going to be okay, do you hear me?" he asked as he held him tightly. JED SALTZMAN

– I freed myself from words never said –
Jed’s released a soft ‘oh’ when he heard that the people had suddenly disappeared. “I can’t tell if I should be alarmed or reassured by this.” He said with a brief chuckle following. “I know.” Jed said with a gentle smile tugging on his lips. “I trust everyone here with my life.” He added a moment later knowing that if anything were to happen, he’d been in good hands here. “Having you here helps.” Jed assured him when he told him that it must be awful for him. Truth was, it was definitely awful. But, having Ben around distracted him from losing himself in all the what ifs.
Jed let out a shaky exhale of relief when he heard Ben promise him. “Okay.” He smiled a little, his relief still clear in the tone of his voice as he spoke. “I trust you, Ben.” He replied when Ben promised him that he won’t let anything happen to his family. He smiled at the kiss left on his knuckles before he watched Ben as he approached the abandoned key and once he had it in his hand, he was back to where Jed was. The door soon unlocked and Jed waited in anticipation for anything in him to change, but nothing happened and it gave him hope that he was going to pull through this just fine, especially when he wasn’t starting to show any signs of whatever those infected people were showing. He was fine.
Jed closed his eyes when Ben hugged him, his own arms lifting to wrap around the older man, hugging him tightly as he let out yet another shaky exhale he hadn’t known he was even holding. “Yeah.” Jed spoke up after a few moments of silence. “I hear you.” Jed whispered, still not letting go of Ben completely, wanting to have his fill of having Ben in his arms like this. Just in case.
Jed eventually let the other go, trusting Ben to close the gate, keeping the two of them in there with each other. He moved to sit on the ground with his back to the wall, keeping some room for Ben to come and join him. He played with his ring subconsciously as he looked at Ben, looking a little less anxious now that he had Ben with him and he didn’t feel like a contained animal. “This doesn’t feel so bad with you here.” Jed admitted out loud, his eyes relaxing on Ben once again. “But, there is one thing that I wanna do and I kinda need you to humor me.” Jed adjusted his posture so he could look at Ben a little better. “It’s really corny, honestly, but uh...” Jed licked his bottom lip, pushing through his nerves to actually say what he had in mind. “I kinda wanna exchange my vows with you. I’m not giving up and I feel fine, right now, but just... in case something does happen, I want to say that I had the chance to finally marry the man that I love and cherish.” Jed said with a gentle smile tugging at the corner of his lips. “And, if all things go well, we’ll just pretend that this was a test run for the actual big day.” Jed continued playing with his ring as he spoke, his smile present on his lips still. “What do you say?”

"I wouldn't worry about it, I'm not going to let anything happen to you," Ben assured him gently. He didn't know what had happened to the people who were infected before but he knew that it was going to be different this time. Ben knew he wasn't going to let anything happen to Jed, it just wasn't an option as far as he was concerned. His fiance always put others before himself but Ben knew that it was his turn to worry about Jed this time rather than the other way around. They knew very little about the virus but Ben refused to lose Jed to it. "That's good because you mean the world to so many people here," he admitted. He knew he wasn't the only one who loved Jed, he had his parents and siblings but he also had the squad and so many other people who cared about him as well. Ben knew he wouldn't be the only one fighting to make sure that Jed stayed with all of them but he knew that he would fight the hardest. As Jed said that having him there helped, Ben felt a smile touch his lips. "There isn't anywhere else I would rather be. I'm not going to let you go through this alone," Ben said gently. He was always going to be there for Jed no matter what and something like this wasn't going to change that. Jed seemed relieved when Ben promised that he would look out for his family if anything happened and that was enough to bring a smile to Ben's lips. "I should hope so, we are getting married after all," Ben said, running his thumb over the ring on Jed's finger which served as a reminder of that. He knew that it would have been awkward if Jed didn't trust him, Ben had already broken Jed's trust once when he’d kept the fact that he was going out into the grounds and letting monsters kill him to make sure that no one at the school got hurt and after Jed died saving him Ben had known that he was never going to do anything to break Jed's trust in him again. There was a part of Ben that had thought that Jed would make him stay outside the cell and if that was what Jed had needed then Ben knew he would have gone along with it but he was glad when Jed agreed that he could join him. Retrieving the key, it wasn't long before Ben joined Jed in the cell and he didn’t hesitate in wrapping his arms around Jed. They both always seemed to feel better when there was some kind of physical contact between them even if that was just the two of them holding hands and now was no exception. Feeling Jed in his arms and having Jed hug him back in return was enough to reassure Ben that Jed was okay for now at least and he couldn't deny that he was relieved. "Good, because there's still so much we haven't done yet," Ben said, leaning forward and kissing the top of Jed's head gently. "I love you," he said, keeping his arms around Jed as their eyes met. He had never loved anyone as much as he loved Jed and he knew that Jr never would. Eventually Jed broke the hug and Ben closed and locked the door of the cell before joining Jed on the floor with his back resting against the wall. "I'm glad," he nodded as Jed said it didn't feel so bad with him there. Wrapping his arm around Jed's shoulders, Ben's expression turned curious as Jed said there was one thing he wanted to do and he needed Ben to humour him. "What have you got in mind?" he asked, unable to deny that he was intrigued. As Jed finally told him, Ben felt a smile touch his lips. "You're going to be fine but we can do that," he nodded. "I would have married you that night at the Old Mill if I could," Ben assured him. He didn't need a big ceremony or anything like that, all he needed was Jed but he knew that having Jed's family and their friends around them was important as well. "It won't be official as we don't have someone here to officiate but it'll be just for us." They were already living together and their lives were joined in such a way that it didn't really change anything that they weren't married but Ben had wanted to make it official anyway and so had Jed. They couldn't quite do that now but they could do the next best thing. "I'm in," he said in case there was any doubt. "Do you want to start?" JED SALTZMAN

– I freed myself from words never said –
Jed felt a small smile tug at the corner of his lips at Ben's assurance before he nodded his head. "I know." He replied because he knew that even if anything were to happen, Ben wouldn't stand idle and he'd find a way to cure him because that's just who Ben was. That's the kind of person he was. That heart that cared too deeply. "They mean the world to me, too." Jed was real lucky to have these people in his life. With Ben being here, he didn't have to think about all the what ifs that were running through his brain while he was alone. It was an appreciated distraction before those thoughts consumed him whole and left him gnawed to the bone.
Jed laughed at Ben's words before he rolled his eyes in a fond manner. "That definitely would've made things awkward." Jed replied with a grin resting on his lips. "I still want that honeymoon." He pointed out and it was definitely something to look forward to. "I love you too, Ben."
Jed leaned against Ben when he felt the other wrap his arm around his shoulders. "I know I will be." He assured him before his expression softened at Ben's next words. "And I would've said yes. No questions asked." Jed said with a soft smile resting on his lips. "Yeah, I know. It's just our little make believe. Plus, it'll pass time." Jed joked a little before he nodded his head when Ben asked him if he wanted to start. "God, I'm already nervous and there is no crowd." Jed said with a chuckle before he glanced over at the infected students. "Except for uh... them." Jed looked away a moment later with a clear of his throat. He grasped Ben's hands in his own, mimicking how their postures would be at the actual wedding.
"Alright, um. Here it goes, I guess." Jed cleared his throat yet again before he finally started. "Ben Lowell. You are the love of my life. I've never loved anyone like I love you. You entered my life in a whirlwind, honestly. I never thought I'd love someone to this degree, but, here you are." Jed said with a gentle smile tugging at the corner of his lips as he let his thumb trace over Ben's knuckles.
"To be honest with you, there was a time where I didn't find life enjoyable and if you suggested immortality to me back then, I would've run for the hills because isn't one lifetime just enough? But I learned the answer to that question when I fell in love with you, Ben. No, it's not enough. Each lifetime I will fall in love with you even more if that's even possible. Each lifetime, I'll cherish you and love you unconditionally because you are my life. I will love you in this lifetime, and the one after that, and the one after that." Jed promised with a gentle smile resting on his lips. "I never thought anyone would ever love me the way you've loved me. So, thank you. For showing me what being loved by you feels like, and for being in my life." Jed finally ended his little speech there, waiting to see if Ben had anything to say before the exchanged the vows.

Before he arrived in Mystic Falls, Ben hadn't had anyone in his life that he cared about. He had made some friends along the way and he'd had to leave them all behind sooner or later but meeting Jed had changed everything. Now Ben had people in his life that he loved and he'd been reunited with some old friends. He had more than he ever could have hoped for and the idea of something bad happening to Jed terrified him. Jed had become a hybrid so Ben wouldn't have to lose him one day but they hadn't counted on something like this. One thing was for sure, though, and that was that Ben refused to let anything happen to Jed. Even if he was infected Ben knew that he would stop at nothing to find a cure so that Jed could have the chance to really start to live his life. "I know they do, I can see it whenever you talk about them or you're around them," Ben said gently. Jed had been through so much and the fact that he'd made it this far and had let so many people in really was incredible. There were so many people around who loved Jed and Ben knew that they would want to help him if he needed it too. "You're telling me," Ben chuckled as Jed said it would have made things awkward to get married if Jed didn't trust him. Ben had made a mistake by breaking Jed's trust once and that was a mistake he knew that he never wanted to make again. He knew he was lucky that Jed had forgiven him and given him another chance and that was something that Ben was never going to take for granted. As Jed said he still wanted the honeymoon, Ben felt a smile touch his lips. "You'll definitely get it. We can go anywhere in thr world, just pick a place and we'll go," he assured Jed. There were a lot of different places that Ben wanted to show Jed but they would have all the time in the world for that. Their honeymoon would be special and Ben knew that he wanted it to be everything Jed wanted it to be so he was more than happy to follow Jed's lead about where they went. As Jed said he loved him too, Ben felt a smile form on his face. "I'll never get tired of hearing you say that," he admitted gently. Ben kissed a light kiss to the top of Jed's head as Jed settled against him. This wasn't how he had thought their day would end up going but there was no way he was going to let Jed go through this alone so it was what it was. "Never stop believing that," Ben said gently as Jed said he knew that he was going to be fine. As Jed said that he would have said yes to marrying him straight away the night he proposed, Ben couldn't help but laugh. "I think your family and our friends would have had something to say about it if we'd gone ahead and tied the knot without them," he chuckled. They'd decided to hold off on getting married until the fight with Raziel was over but Ben knew that he would happily marry Jed anytime, anywhere. "It'll do until we can get married for real. I can't wait to be able to call you my husband," Ben admitted. In all his long life he had never even come close to calling someone that before but it felt so right with Jed. As Jed said he was nervous even though there wasn't a crowd other than the infected students, Ben's expression softened. "Forget about them, it's just you and me. No need to be nervous," he assured Jed before giving Jed's hands a gentle squeeze once they were joined. As Jed started speaking, all Ben could do was listen but he felt his heart filling with even more love for the man before him. By the time Jed had finished Ben's eyes were stinging with tears but they were happy tears and he didn’t bother trying to hold them back. Normally he tried to stay strong no matter what happened but Jed's words combined with the situation they were in right now were enough to set him off. Wiping his eyes, Ben took a deep breath before speaking. "Jed, when I came to Mystic Falls I hoped I might find someone who could help me break my curse but I had no idea I would find so much more than that. The day you found me, you changed my life. I spent thousands of years existing without really living or letting anyone get close to me because I was so worried they were going to get hurt. I didn’t think I deserved to be loved but you showed me that I was wrong," Ben said, his eyes fixed on Jed's as he spoke. "In all my life I've never met anyone like you. You have the purest heart and you care about everyone around you so much that you made me care about them too. You've made me a better person and it's an honour to be loved by you. You're my soulmate and it took me such a long time to find you but now I have, I'll never let you go. We've got an eternity together ahead of us and I can't wait to spend it with you." JED SALTZMAN

– I freed myself from words never said –
Jed felt a gentle smile tug at the corner of his lips at Ben’s words before nodding his head slowly. He truly did feel like one of the luckiest people alive. His life took a whole turn for the best when he hadn’t expected it to, especially when he used to think that he didn’t deserve it when his father’s blood was dripping from his hands. Sure, sometimes he felt like his luck was getting tested with all the obstacles thrown his way, but then everything would turn out alright in the end. Even though he had died before, like twice already, each time, it played out in his favor. The first time, Ben was the one to bring him to life. The second time, it was Hope’s blood pumping through his veins that did when he decided to become a hybrid. What was happening now was simply just another obstacle that he was going to get over — he was confident about that, at least.
But, there was a sick part that kept whispering what if. Just what if this was the moment that his luck ultimately runs out because who stays lucky forever, right? But, he willed himself to focus on the fact that he was feeling alright and on the fact that he had Ben here with him, comforting him, saying these sweet words to him that made his thoughts feel a lot less pessimistic.
“Oh, there’d be hell to pay.” Jed breathed out at the mention of his friends and family’s reactions to them tying the knot without them. Well, they definitely weren’t. It was just make believe and it also helped keep Jed distracted because if he’s not thinking about whatever’s getting pumped through his veins right now, then he’s got no reason to panic or feel uneasy. “Me neither.” Jed replied when Ben told him that he can’t wait to be able to call him his husband. He quickly forgot about their unwanted company and said what he needed to say even though his voice probably gave away just how nervous he was. At least he’d managed to make it through the speech just fine.
His expression softened at the sight of the tears in Ben’s eyes. He lifted his hand to cup Ben’s cheek, smiling a little before he finally concluded his speech. Though, there was nothing that could possibly prepare him for Ben’s speech. He listened, feeling tears collect in his own eyes before he let out a chuckle when he felt the tears actually fall down his cheeks. They were happy tears and laughter, though. “Wow, um.” Jed wiped his tears away quickly. “I think I’m going to need a lot of napkins at the wedding.” Jed commented because he was already crying now and it was just the two of them.
“I guess, um, this is where we exchange the vows. Y’know, the traditional ones.” Jed sniffed and wiped his tears away again before taking Ben’s hands in his own again. “I, Jedidiah Saltzman, take you, Ben Lowell, to be my husband, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and cherish always.” Jed smiled, giving Ben’s hand a gentle squeeze as he concluded. “By the way, d’you wanna take my surname, or do you wanna give me yours? Honestly, I don’t mind. But, you’ve been a part of the Saltzman family even before taking on the surname, it would just make it official on paper, but you’ve been one of us from the beginning, Ben.”
