Ben had spent much of his life at rock bottom but Jed had helped him crawl his way out of that and now it couldn’t be further from the truth. They both had people around them who cared now and the love they’d found was something that Ben knew was very special. He hadn’t ever thought that he would find what he had with Jed and it was something that he knew better than to take for granted. Jed had so many people in his life who loved him and they were people that Ben knew Jed loved in return. He had seen the kindness in Jed’s eyes the day they first met, Ben had told him his story feeling certain that Jed would think he was a monster and want to get him as far away from the school as possible but instead he had been met with compassion and unwavering acceptance. There had been others in his life before that Ben had cared about but he’d forced himself to leave them all behind eventually. With Jed it was different, he’d found someone that he would never leave behind and Ben knew that now wasn’t going to be any different. There was a chance that Jed might be infected by the virus but there was also a chance that he might not be and either way Ben knew that he wasn’t going to let Jed go through this alone. “I know there would,” Ben chuckled as Jed said there would be hell to pay if they’d got married without their loved ones around them. “Once this is all over there’ll be nothing to stop us doing this for real,” he added. He really would have eloped with Jed if it wouldn’t have upset everyone that they cared about but it would so he hoped that they would be able to put together a simple wedding quite quickly instead. It didn’t have to be anything extravagant as far as Ben was concerned, all he wanted was to marry Jed and make it official. Right now he knew that they needed to get through this and the fight with Raziel first, though, and Ben knew he needed to believe that Jed would be fine. Being able to say their vows now was a perfect distraction from the agonising wait to see whether or not Jed was infected and Jed’s words were enough to bring tears to Ben’s eyes. Ben wasn’t the kind of person who cried easily and he never had been but there was something about hearing that from Jed that was enough to set him off. It wasn’t long before it was his turn to speak and it soon became clear that his words were having the same affect on Jed. Bringing his hand up and letting it rest against Jed’s cheek, Ben wiped away his fiancé’s tears gently. “That makes two of us,” he chuckled. “I rarely cry but I think that day will be an exception.” The only other times he remembered crying were the two times when Jed had died but he already knew that doing this for real was going to be an emotional experience. “I guess so,” he nodded as Jed said this was where they exchanged the traditional vows. Soon enough they were holding hands again and Ben felt his heart leap in his chest as Jed recited his vows. Once he was done, Ben knew that it was his turn. “I, Ben Lowell, take you, Jedidiah Saltzman, to be my husband. To have and to hold, from this day forward, for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health. I will love and cherish you always,” he said, his eyes locked on Jed’s as he spoke. Moments later Jed was asking about which name they should use and Ben’s expression turned thoughtful for a moment. “I started using Lowell as a tribute to a friend who died in battle years ago. I’ve used it for so long that I think I’ve more than done him justice,” he explained as his eyes met Jed’s once more. “I know how happy you were the day your parents adopted you and you officially became a Saltzman and I also know you’re right when you say I’m a part of your family. That surname has so much significance behind it so it would be an honour for me to take on your name if you’re sure you’re okay with that.” It would be the end of an era to stop using the name Lowell but Ben’s new life was beginning and for that it only felt right to take on a new name that meant just as much, if not more. Jed chuckled at Ben’s confirmation. Well, it was certainly a good thing that they weren’t going to do something like that. He’d rather enjoy his loved ones’ wrath. It would certainly be a vicious thing. “Yeah. I can’t wait.” He can’t wait for the day that Raziel’s gone for good because then, they’ll be able to breathe and live normally without the threat of a homicidal angel resting above their heads.
“Alright, so double the tissue boxes, then?” Jed replied in a teasing manner before he grinned. It really wasn’t a surprise to him that they were both emotional when it came to each other and he knew that day was bound to get pretty emotional quickly. As Ben recited his vows, too, Jed felt a small smile tug at the corner of his lips. Shortly after, he was asking Ben a question that he was pretty curious about knowing the answer to. Jed released a soft hum as he listened to Ben. “Ben Saltzman does have a pretty nice ring to it.” Jed commented with a gentle smile resting on his lips. “It’s decided, then.” He added a moment later.
“Y’know what, this was a pretty good first attempt.” Jed voiced his approval with a satisfied smile resting on his lips. “I think we’re pretty much ready for our big day. Just gotta deal with a homicidal angel first. He’d be the worst wedding crasher otherwise.” Jed glanced down at his ring that was embracing his finger with a gentle smile resting on his lips.
“By the way...” Jed trailed off, unsure whether he should bring it up because it could just be him overthinking it all. “Do you ever... notice anything weird about Romeo? I—” He trailed off again, gnawing slightly on his bottom lip. “He’s a great guy, but, today... The way he was looking at me. It felt, I dunno how to explain it, weird, I guess. I don’t know. It was strange. Maybe I’m just overthinking it.”

As tempting as it was to elope and get married without having to worry about planning a wedding first, Ben knew that it really wouldn't be worth the hassle it would cause when they got back. They had so many people who wanted to share in their special day with them and Ben knew that it wouldn't be fair to stop them from doing that. There really would be hell to pay if they went ahead and got married without them so that meant that they had to wait. It hadn't seemed right planning a wedding with the threat of Raziel hanging over their heads but once that was over Ben knew that he wanted to go ahead with it as soon as possible. "I can't either. Well be able to get married for real, go on our honeymoon and start planning for our future." Ben knew that there was always the possibility of another threat that they might have to face but he had lived long enough to know that it would be the same anywhere so he knew better than to worry about that. "I think so. We should probably make sure there are plenty for everyone because something tells me your family will need them too," Ben chuckled. Jed hadn't seen how upset his parents were when he was going through the transition but Ben had done. They had fallen apart just like he had and Ben knew that they might not be able to hold it together on their wedding day either. There were others among the people they cared about who might end up getting emotional as well so it would probably be a good idea to make sure that they were covered just in case. The question of which name they would both use was one that Ben hadn't really thought too much about until now. He knew that with the way things were these days they could keep their own names but Ben would be the first to admit that he was old fashioned and he liked the idea of them both using the same name. Both names had special significance behind them and Ben knew that he had done the right thing by taking on his friend's surname when he died but this was going to be a fresh start for both of them and Ben knew how much being a Saltzman meant to Jed so it was easy for him to make that suggestion. "It does, doesn't it?" Ben asked, a smile touching his lips as he looked over at Jed. "Saltzman it is then. I think it will mean a lot to your family that you're going to keep their name as well," he nodded. He had seen how proud Jed was the day he told him that he had been adopted and had changed his name and Ben knew that it wouldn't have felt right asking him to change it again. "It was, now I'm looking forward to our big day even more," Ben agreed. He knew that it was going to be different speaking in front of so many people and that was something that Ben wasn't particularly used to but at the end of the day he knew that it would be worth it to marry Jed. As Jed spoke again, Ben couldn't help but laugh. "You're right about that. I don't even want to think about what it would be like having him crash the wedding," he admitted. It had been awful enough when Raziel crashed their celebration at finally stopping his curse with the bracelet, too many people had ended up getting hurt that day and he knew that it would be even worse if he crashed a bigger gathering. Ben found himself looking over at Jed again as he started speaking only for his voice to trail off and he was about to ask what Jed was going to say when he continued. Ben was about to say that he hadn't noticed anything when something came to mind and he frowned. "Now you mention it I seem to be seeing him around a lot right now almost like he's following me and I did catch him staring at me the other day. I thought it was just because someone has been spreading my connection to Raziel around the school but now I'm not so sure. Do you think he's up to something?" he asked, curious to know what Jed was thinking. JED SALTZMAN

– I freed myself from words never said –
Jed felt a small smile tug at the corner of his lips as he listened to Ben. It was a nice plan for their future and Jed honestly cannot wait for them to actually be done with the nightmare that was Ben’s father. “Oh, yeah. Being someone who cries easily definitely runs in the Saltzman family.” Jed said with a chuckle falling from his lips not long after and even though he wasn’t related to any of them by blood, he still felt like one of them. “Ben Saltzman.” Jed repeated with a pleased smile resting on his lips. “They’ve given me a second chance to live a good life. I’ll always be grateful to them.” Jed added a moment later, playing with the ring around his finger.
Jed honestly couldn’t wait for their big day. It made him want to put an end to Ben’s dad even more because with him gone, there’d be nothing stopping them from being able to get married, go on their honeymoon and do all the things they’ve been putting off until Raziel’s dealt with. Though when the talk shifted to Romeo when he pointed out that weird feeling that he’s been feeling when it comes to the other, he frowned when Ben pointed out that he had caught him staring. “What the hell?” Jed asked with a small frown tugging at his features.
“I don’t know, I... He’s been spending a lot of time with Summer and as happy as I am that she’s got a friend now, or maybe something more, I don’t want her to get hurt. But, I also don’t want to read into this wrong and ruin what they have, you know? It’s just that... it felt like he was ratting me out today. It felt like he was pleased about it. But, maybe hallucinations is part of the whole shmuck, so I don’t know, Ben. But still, be careful.” Jed shrugged his shoulders because the last thing he wanted was to point fingers and then end up being completely wrong. “We can look more into it If I get outta here.” Jed added a moment later with a quick nod of his head following. It would be a good way to ease his nerves and to also ensure that he wasn’t giving someone the opportunity to hurt Summer, not when she’d been hurt enough times in the past.
Though he seemed to realize something and it showed in the way he momentarily paused. “Sorry. When I’m out of here.” Jed quickly fixed his sentence, offering Ben a small smile. “I feel fine, though.” He noted not long after. So far, he didn’t feel any rapid changes, he didn’t feel any different. “If anything, I feel like it’s almost gone—” Jed trailed off when he rolled up his sleeve to look at the cut that was left where her blood mixed with his own and he half-expected it to be almost gone already, especially considering the fact that he does have the ability to heal quicker than others, but he came to a stop when he saw just how angry the cut looked. It looked worse than before. There was a small tremble to his hand that he hadn’t noticed before. He looked over at Ben, unsure of what to say.

Ben had never thought that he would be the kind of person to settle down, he had been on his own ever since Ashur died and even though he'd had one night stands along the way, none of them had ever progressed to anything more. With Jed he had wanted to do things differently, he had realised pretty quickly that he had genuine feelings for the guy and Jed knew the truth about who and what he was but there hadn't been any judgement in his eyes. Ben hadn't thought he would end up falling in love but that was exactly what had happened and now he couldn't wait for them to be able to start the next chapter of their lives. He couldn't imagine his life without Jed in it now and Ben really hoped that they would be able to stop his father soon so they could do all of the things he'd mentioned. "So I've noticed," Ben chuckled as Jed said that crying easily ran in the family. "I know it won't take much to set your mom and sister off," he added with a grin. Jenna and Josie probably wouldn't even bother trying to hold their tears back on the day but that was something that they would hopefully be ready for. As Jed repeated his new name, Ben's expression softened. "I really love the sound of that," he admitted. "Jed Lowell isn't quite the same." Ben knew he had done the right thing by taking on his friend's surname out of respect when he died but it was time for a change and it was one that Ben was happy to make. "I know they have. I'll always be grateful for everything they did for you too, for both of us really," he admitted. Jed's family had accepted him without question and they had never tried to come between the two of them and that was more than Ben ever could have hoped for. They had always been so supportive and he really did love them for it. As Jed spoke again, Ben nodded. "It was really strange, that's for sure," he admitted. Ben had never really been too sure what to make of Romeo if he was honest but he had tried to give him the benefit of the doubt. What had happened that day had really creeped him out, though, so Jed's reaction wasn't all that surprising. It was easy for Ben to turn the question around onto Jed to see what he'd noticed as well and he nodded as Jed said he was happy that Summer had a friend now but he didn't want her to get hurt. "I know what you mean. She's such a sweet girl and she's been through so much already but if something is said to her and we're wrong about Romeo then we'll be the ones who'll be hurting her," he nodded. Ben hadn't been there the day Summer's parents had tried to kill her brother but Jed had and he knew that Jed was protective of her. "I haven't noticed hallucinations being a part of it all but I'll be careful, I promise," Ben assured him, knowing that was a promise that he could easily keep. "You've always had good instincts about people, what are they telling you now?" he asked, curious as to whether they were telling Jed that he could trust Romeo or not. Hearing Jed say they would look into it if he got out of there, Ben was about to correct him and say that they would look into it when Jed got out of there but Jed seemed to realise what he'd said and corrected himself anyway. "That's more like it," Ben said, offering Jed a smile in return as he ran his thumb lightly over his fiancé's knuckles. "That's a good sign," he said gently as Jed said he felt fine. As he began speaking again only to trail off when he rolled up his sleeve, though, a frown crossed Ben's features as he looked over at the wound. Instead of being gone it looked a lot worse and that was enough to make Ben's heart sink. "No," he breathed, shaking his head as he took a moment to compose himself. "I'm not losing you to this, you're going to be okay," Ben said as he reached over and held his hands over the wound. Closing his eyes, he let his love for Jed and desire to heal him fill him completely just like he had the day he had healed Jed's body and brought him back from the dead. It didn't take long for Ben's hands to start glowing as he healed Jed's wound and it was only when he was done that he removed his hands and made sure that the wound was completely gone before lifting his gaze to meet Jed's. "You're going to be okay," he repeated, needing Jed to believe that. JED SALTZMAN

– I freed myself from words never said –
Jed chuckled at Ben’s comment about his sister and mom. “Yeah, or...” He was about to say someone’s name but he blanked and he frowned. There was someone who had just crossed his mind but for some reason, the thought those words left his lips, he had no idea who he was about to talk about. Weird. “Or my dad, honestly. Don’t let his “I’m tough” façade fool you.” Jed said instead, the words falling smoothly from his lips which prompted him to believe that there was no one missing from his family.
“Ben Tien honestly sounds... questionable. Like a cartoon-y character. I gotta get you to watch Ben 10, you’ll understand my reference then.” Jed said, unable to deny the laugh that escaped his lips. He smiled at Ben’s next words before nodding his head a few times. He was pretty grateful for them and the chance they had given him to live a good life. Though as the talk drifted to Romeo, Jed found it difficult to really believe his instincts. He gnawed on his bottom lip as he considered it for a moment, toying with his ring instinctively. “He’s not telling us the truth. It’s telling me that he’s not a good person.” Jed commented before his shoulders lifted and dropped in a quick shrug. “But, we’ve always given people who’d done bad things a second chance here. It’s like, the premise of the school. Hell, we’ve got an Original working here. What I’m trying to say is that even though I feel like he’s done something in the past, it’s still not enough to pull away from him. The school or the college wouldn’t be standing right now if it weren’t for all the people we’ve given second chances.” Jed’s shoulders lifted and dropped in a quick shrug. “So, aside from my instincts telling me these things, it’s also telling me to give him another chance.” While being careful, of course. He’d just have to keep a closer eye on him to ensure that he’s not being paranoid.
Jed was quick to correct himself and when he earned Ben’s approval for doing it first before him, he couldn’t help the chuckle that escaped him but the mood soon shifted entirely when he saw the state of the wound where his blood had mixed with the girl’s. “Ben.” Jed called out softly. “You promised.” His voice was still soft. Though he stopped when he saw Ben close his hands over his wound. “Ben—” He paused when he saw his hands start to glow, his eyes widened slightly as he felt his wound start to close. It didn’t really hurt but when Ben took his hands away, he saw that there were no traces of angry red veins surrounding the wound and no traces of the wound itself. The area around it had started looking a bit black which had caused the alarm bells to go off in his head but there were no traces of any of those things now. “Holy shit,” Jed whispered in amazement, looking at Ben then his arm before he chuckled knowing that he’d just been saved. “So, aside from being a badass Nephilim, you can cure this weird virus? That’s literally so cool.” Jed brushed his thumb against his cured wound before he turned to Ben. “I’m going to be okay.” Jed repeated with a shaky voice before he pulled Ben in for a tight hug. “Thank you.”

Ben could see the way that Jed hesitated before speaking and Ben studied him carefully for a moment. “What were you going to say?” he asked gently. It had seemed like there was a name on the tip of Jed’s tongue but instead he said that his dad was prone to crying and Ben couldn’t help but laugh. “Oh, I know. I saw how he was when you died and when you became a hybrid, he’ll be just as bad as the rest of us,” he chuckled. “I wonder whether there’ll be a dry eye among Hope and the rest of the squad,” he added with a grin. He knew how happy they all were for the two of them and it was going to be interesting to see how they, Toni and Ethan reacted to say the least. For the longest time Ben hadn’t had anyone around that he cared about but now he had plenty and so did Jed. It was going to be great to finally be able to say those vows in front of the people who meant the world to them and Ben couldn’t wait. “There’s seriously a character called Ben 10?” Ben questioned. It was a silly name but then again he didn’t understand some of the names that people came up with for characters so perhaps it was just him. “Ben Tien doesn’t quite have the same ring to it, Ben Saltzman it is,” he said, knowing that was definitely the best option out of the three. “I know we could just keep our own surnames but honestly I like the idea of sharing the same name as you,” he added. He knew there were some people who kept their own names when they got married and that worked fine for them but Ben had been on his own for such a long time that he wanted to be tied to Jed in every way possible. As Jed spoke about Romeo, Ben found himself nodding. “You’re right, the school is known for giving people a second chance. We owe him that until he shows that he doesn’t deserve it but that doesn’t mean we have to let our guard down around him,” Ben offered, giving Jed’s hand a gentle squeeze as he spoke. “I know I’m going to keep a closer eye on him from now on, that’s for sure,” he added. There was something about Romeo that Ben didn’t quite trust either and even though he would give Romeo the benefit of the doubt just like everyone had done to him when he arrived at the school, Ben knew that he wasn’t going to just blindly trust the guy either. A smile touched Ben’s lips at the sound of Jed’s chuckle when he corrected himself. Normally Ben had to correct Jed when he said things like that but he seemed to catch it himself this time and Ben was proud of him for that. Seeing the wound on Jed’s arm getting worse was enough to make Ben worry and he knew that he needed to keep the promise he had made to Jed but in that moment he wasn’t sure that he could. “I know, I just need to try something first,” Ben said gently. Truth be told he wasn’t sure that he could bring himself to leave Jed like he’d said he would anyway so he just hoped that this was going to work. He hadn’t been aware of what he was doing when he had healed Jed’s body in the past but this time it was intentional and he could feel the desire to heal Jed flowing through him and into Jed’s arm. It wasn’t long before the glowing stopped and when Ben moved his hands away, Jed’s arm was healed. “I don’t know if I’ve cured the virus but your arm looks a lot better at least,” Ben offered. He hoped that he had cured the virus because then it would mean that he would be able to not just help Jed but all those infected too but only time would tell. Ben felt a smile touch his lips as Jed hugged him and he wrapped his arms around Jed, hugging him tightly in return. “You don’t need to thank me, I’m only able to heal because of you. The love I feel for you is the trigger,” he explained as he kissed the top of Jed’s head gently. “You should know by now that I’ll do everything in my power to keep you safe,” he added with a grin. If that meant curing the virus in Jed or even just keeping it at bay then that’s what he was going to do. JED SALTZMAN
