Ben couldn’t quite believe that this was happening, there had been moments when he had thought that Jed liked him too but then there were others when he had felt sure that it was all in his head. It had taken a lot of courage for Jed to admit how he felt and Ben truly was proud of him for that. Jed had had so much to work through lately but he seemed certain about what he wanted now and Ben knew that he definitely wasn’t going to be the one to put a stop to this. He wanted Jed, of that much he was certain, and he wanted to be with him so he knew that he didn’t want to do anything to mess that up. “You’re not helping,” Ben chuckled, the red colour in his cheeks deepening as Jed agreed that it would have been embarrassing if he hadn’t wanted to put a label on it and be his boyfriend. Ben wasn’t used to this at all, during his last relationship the word boyfriend hadn’t even existed and they had never really talked about what they were to each other in that sense. Now things were different and he had wanted to know where he stood with Jed so it was a relief to have an answer. “Yes, it is,” he nodded as Jed said that messing up was a part of the learning process too. “Promise me that no matter what happens then we’ll still be in each other’s lives?” he asked. Ben cared about Jed so much that the last thing he wanted was to end up losing him if things didn’t work out. Deep down he knew that asking him to make a promise probably wasn’t a fair thing for him to do but he just couldn’t help it. “If I catch you beating yourself up about it there’ll be trouble,” Ben teased. He knew that it had taken a lot of courage for Jed to now only come to terms with what he was feeling but to also put it into words and Ben knew that the last thing he wanted was for Jed to be too hard on himself for taking the time he’d needed to figure it out. Ben was about to respond to Jed’s next words when Jed said that he was all his until it was time to go to bed and that was enough to have Ben’s eyes widening in surprise. Thankfully he recovered quickly and he took Jed’s hand in his and gave it a gentle squeeze. “All in good time,” Ben assured him, unable to ignore the way his heart started to race at just the thought of being able to be intimate with Jed like that. Ben really didn’t want to rush things, though, and he didn’t want Jed to do anything he wasn’t ready for either so all of that would have to wait for now. Keeping Jed’s hand in his, Ben led the way over to the chairs by the bonfire and sat down in one before grabbing a couple of beer bottles out of the cooler. “I think it’s safe to say you’ve earned this tonight,” he admitted as he held one out to Jed. “How are you doing, are you okay?”JED SALTZMAN

– I freed myself from words never said –
You’re not helping, Yes, it is, Promise me that no matter what happens then we’ll still be in each other’s lives?
Jed couldn't help but chuckle again before he pressed his lips together to hold back from continuing. "Sorry, sorry." It was just too cute. Ben was being too cute. When Jed processed Ben's next words, his expression softened. "Of course." Jed said almost too quickly to assure him. "I promise." Jed added a moment later with a gentle smile resting on his lips. "You won't get rid of me that easily." He added a moment later just to prove a point.
If I catch you beating yourself up about it there’ll be trouble, All in good time, I think it’s safe to say you’ve earned this tonight, How are you doing, are you okay?
Jed's eyes widened momentarily at Ben's words before a chuckle soon escaped his lips. "Can't have that now, can we?" Jed said with a gentle smile resting on his lips. "I'll stop." He promised in a soft voice. Jed couldn't help the fact that his heart was beating quickly at the thought of being with Ben in an intimate way. It was definitely making his head spin just from thinking about it. "Y-Yeah. All in good time." Jed recovered not long after, his words followed by an awkward clear of his throat. Jed followed as Ben led him to the chairs by the bonfire, their hands held together. This time, it didn't happen out of instinct or accidentally. They were actually holding hands now. Jed looked down at their joined hands and felt a smile already form on his lips before he eventually sat down and when he was offered a beer bottle, his eyes lit up. A chuckle fell from his lips when Ben told him that he'd earned this tonight. "You're not wrong there." Jed said with a grin forming on his lips as he reached out to take the bottle. "Thanks." Jed opened it not long after and took a quick sip from it, his cheeks still feeling pretty warm and his heart was definitely still racing. Jed's attention drifted over to Ben as his question soon broke the silence. "I'm pretty good, actually. Happier than I've ever been." Jed revealed with a nod of his head following, a smile forming on his lips not long after. "What about you?" Jed turned a little so that he could face Ben better, the beer bottle still in his hand.

Ben had zero experience with asking people out, with Ashur it had just happened and with the guys he'd had one night stands with it had been the same. Jed was the first guy he had actually wanted something more with so asking had been necessary but he still found himself rolling his eyes as Jed apologised. "No you're not," he teased but the chuckle that came after gave away that he really didn't mind at all. Jed was the one person he could be himself with and that hadn't changed. Jed's next words were enough to draw a smile to Ben's lips and he nodded. "Good because I wouldn't want to," he admitted. "It has been a long time since I last had someone I could be myself around the way I can with you." He had been able to be that way to an extent with Antonio and Ethan but they hadn't known the truth about what he was. The only person who had known and had wanted him around for more than just a deal that needed to be upheld was the woman who freed him from the cave but she had died a long time ago. "No, we can't," Ben grinned. "You needed time and you took it, you did the right thing," he added gently, knowing that it no doubt would have been much more difficult for Jed if he had tried to figure things out at the school. Ben didn't hold any ill will towards Jed for his absence over the last few days so he hoped that Jed wouldn't either. As Jed agreed that it would all happen in good time, the way he stammered and cleared his throat afterwards was enough to have Ben's expression softening. "Hey, it's okay," he said gently. "I know it seems scary but it can be incredible. I meant it when I said there's no rush though, even if you're never ready to take that step I'm not going anywhere. I'd be happy just being able to wake up next to you in the morning, all I want is to be with you." Everything else would either happen or it wouldn't and either way it was okay. Ben had had one night stands and those were all about the physical side of things but this was completely different and in all honesty what he had with Jed was already so much better. Leading the way out to the bonfire, Ben couldn't deny that it felt nice holding Jed's hand intentionally this time and as he looked over at Jed the smile on the guy's face made it look like it felt the same way for him. Handing the beer to Jed, Ben felt a smile touch his lips. "I'm proud of you, you know. Telling me took a lot of courage," he said, glancing over at Jed before taking a sip of his own beer. As Jed revealed that he was happier than he had ever been, those words alone were enough to have Ben's heart starting to race. "I'm really happy too, I never thought that I would want this again let alone get to actually have it," he admitted, turning to look over at Jed as he took another sip of his drink. "I haven't been in a relationship with anyone since Ashur but it feels so right with you," he added gently. "I'm glad you sought me out tonight."JED SALTZMAN

– I freed myself from words never said –
Jed’s lips stretched to form a grin when Ben pointed out that he wasn’t sorry. His shoulders lifted and dropped, barely even acting apologetic. It was fun, just teasing and joking around this. It definitely lifted a lot of weight off his shoulders. Jed’s expression softened as he listened to Ben when he pointed out that he wouldn’t want to become strangers with him if things didn’t wind up working between the two of them. His next words were more than enough to make Jed’s heart skip a beat. It really did make him happy to hear Ben say that because he could tell that Ben was being absolutely genuine, with no lies, no masking his true feelings. His words were enough to bring back that desire to connect their lips once again, but he held back. For now, at least.
“Thanks, Ben. You’re pretty great you know that?” Jed said with a gentle smile already starting to tug on his lips. Anyone else would have acted upset with him, but not Ben. He was pretty understanding and he gave Jed all the time he needed to really process everything. He couldn’t have asked for a better boyfriend, honestly. Jed’s eyes softened as he listened to Ben as he assured him, his words filling him with this serene feeling that he couldn’t quite get enough of. Jed had no idea how he’d gotten so lucky with Ben. It really did seem like the stars had aligned in his favor for once. “I know.” Jed said in a soft voice. “I’m not scared. Being with you like that doesn’t scare me, it just—” Jed trailed off as he momentarily caught his bottom lip between his teeth. “Makes me a little nervous, that’s all.” Jed clarified a moment later because he didn’t want Ben to think that the thought scared him off. If anything, it made his heart beat faster just from thinking about it.
“Thank you.” Jed replied in a soft voice when Ben told him that he was proud of him. “It did. I chickened out earlier. I almost knocked on your door so early in the morning but then I just— ran off.” He admitted with a soft sigh falling from his lips. His cowardly actions didn’t upset him anymore, not when he had finally managed to confess his feelings to Ben. There was definitely no reason for him to continue hanging onto that anymore. Jed was quiet as he listened to Ben explain that he hasn’t been in a relationship since Ashur which made Jed’s eyes soften. Though hearing Ben say that it felt so right with him was more than enough to make Jed’s expression light up. “Being with you feels so right too, Ben. You deserve to be happy, so I’m going to try my hardest to keep you happy.” Jed said in a soft voice, wanting Ben to know that he felt the same way, too. “Me too.” Jed said almost immediately. “No more running away.” Jed said a moment later with the same smile still resting on his lips before he lifted the beer bottle up to his lips to take a quick sip, enjoying the familiar taste of beer on his tongue. “I could honestly get used to this.” The two of them sitting in front of the bonfire, enjoying a drink and having a heart-to-heart discussion. It was everything he’d hoped for and more.

Jed had apologised but Ben could see that he didn’t mean it one bit and the truth was that he didn’t mind. He liked the way things were between them, it was good to be able to laugh and joke around. That was something that he hadn’t had for a long time and he knew that he didn’t want it to change. He knew how he felt about Jed and he knew now how Jed felt about him but that didn’t have to change the way they were around each other and he was pretty sure that it wasn’t going to so he really was glad about that. It was a little scary to think just how much Jed had come to mean to him in such a short space of time, Ben had been on his own for such a long time but now he had found someone who not only understood what he had been through and the fact that he was cursed and still wanted to be in his life after knowing all of that, he had found someone who actually wanted to be with him. Ben hadn’t been very good at letting people get too close to him but he was breaking all the rules for Jed and he was glad that they were both taking a chance. “I’m glad you think so because you’re pretty great yourself,” Ben said, a smile forming on his face as he looked over at Jed. As far as Ben was concerned he hadn’t done anything special, he knew from personal experience just how scary all of this could be and he really was glad that Jed had taken the time that he’d needed to figure things out. He knew that others might not have necessarily taken the same view but Ben had meant it when he’d said that he didn’t want Jed to rush and do something before he was ready and he really would have waited for Jed if he’d needed to. As Jed said that the idea of the two of them being together didn’t scare him it just made him a little nervous, Ben’s expression softened and he let his hand rest lightly against Jed’s cheek. “I can understand that,” he said gently. “We don’t have to do anything until you’re ready, we’ve got all the time in the world,” he assured him. Ben knew that that was true for him more than it was for Jed but Jed was only young and Ben wasn’t planning on going anywhere so there really wasn’t any need for them to rush things. Ben had had plenty of practice at being patient so he knew that he wasn’t going to go and make Jed do something that he wasn’t comfortable with. “I can’t blame you for that, putting yourself on the line is never easy,” he nodded. “You went through with it in the end though and I’m glad you did.” This all felt a little surreal at the moment but Ben knew that this was what he wanted more than anything else right now, even more than breaking the curse. That would either happen or it wouldn’t but with Jed Ben wanted to enjoy as much time together as they could. Ben hadn’t wanted to start anything with anyone else after losing Ashur, he’d had a few one night stands but that had been it. Jed was different though and Ben knew that being with him was what he wanted. “You don’t need to try, you already do,” Ben assured him as Jed said that he was going to try his hardest to make him happy. “You deserve to be happy too. I know you didn’t get the chance with Trey but I’m not going anywhere,” he added gently. “I want to make you happy too. I hope you know you can talk to me about anything.” Now he knew what Jed had been through with his father Ben knew that he wanted to protect Jed from anymore heartache that might end up coming his way. He would never understand how a father could expect his own son to kill his best friend just to trigger his curse, Jed hadn’t deserved that and Ben wanted to make sure that he never had to go through anything like that again. “No more running away,” he agreed as he took a sip of his beer. For a moment his gaze came to rest on the bonfire but he soon turned his attention back to Jed. “Same here. Maybe we should make this a regular thing.”JED SALTZMAN

Jed's lips stretched to form a grin when Ben told him that he was pretty great himself. It was definitely enough to make his heart skip a beat. But then again, he was pretty sure that any word of Ben would be more than enough to make his heart skip a beat in the most obvious way possible. There was just something so charming about him that had Jed completely overwhelmed by him. When Ben assured him that they won't take any of those steps yet until he was ready, his lips stretched to form a soft smile before he nodded his head a few times. "Okay." It sounded like a plan to him. Hopefully, that nervousness won't stay for long. It was probably because it was so new to him. But he knew that with time, that feeling will fade and he'll find himself a lot more comfortable with Ben.
"Yeah. It's definitely not as easy as it seems in the movies." Jed pointed out with a brief chuckle falling from his lips before he remembered that Ben wasn't all caught up with TV shows and movies. "I'm really glad too." Jed, for once, did feel proud of himself. It definitely changed the way he saw himself. He wasn't a coward anymore. Or, at least he was trying his damn hardest not to be.
Jed's expression softened as he listened to Ben, his words really did mean a lot to him. "I'm gonna hold you to that." Jed said with the same smile still resting on his lips. It really did mean a lot to hear that kind of reassurance from Ben. "You already do. I know, Ben. Of course, I'd talk to you about anything. I trust you." Jed said in a soft voice when Ben told him that he wants to make him happy. Jed's attention moved away from the bonfire when he heard Ben agree with him and suggest making this a regular thing. "Yeah, we should." Jed agreed almost right away. "Just tell me when and I'll be here." The young Alpha said with the same smile resting on his lips. Jed lifted his drink up to his lips to take a quick sip, enjoying the familiar taste of beer. "How are you finding the school so far, by the way?" Jed turned a little bit on his seat to look at Ben better, his curiosity visible in his eyes.

Ben hadn’t expected to find this when he arrived in Mystic Falls, he had hoped that he might find a way to break his curse but finding someone who could accept him for who he was and still want to be with him was something that he hadn’t expected at all. For the first time in a long time he felt like he had found a place where he belonged and he was happy so he knew that he was pretty lucky to have been found by Jed and Dr Saltzman and brought to the Salvatore School. Jed had been incredible to him ever since they met and Ben knew that he was lucky that Jed felt more than that towards him. Ben hadn’t met anyone like him before and he knew that he didn’t want their time together to come to an end so he was glad that things had worked out the way they had done. Now they could take things at their own speed and that was something that Ben was looking forward to. “We’ll figure this out together, deal?” he asked, hoping that Jed would agree. As Jed said it wasn’t as easy as it seemed in the movies, Ben felt a smile form on his face. “Perhaps you could show me sometime?” he suggested. Ben would be the first to admit that he wasn’t up to date with movies or TV shows, he had never really had much time for anything like that. Now things were different, though, and that was something that he knew better than to take for granted. He wanted to learn as much as he could about the way the world was now that he was finally living in it rather than living on the outside and he was pretty sure that Jed could help him with that. As Jed said that he was going to hold him to his promise not to go anywhere, Ben’s smile softened. “You’d better. You’ve changed so much for me already that I’d be crazy to walk away,” Ben assured him. He had found others who had said that they would help him in the past but aside from one of them there had always been something in it for them. With Jed it was different, he was doing all of this without asking for anything in return and Ben knew that the last thing he wanted was to end up losing someone like that from his life. “That’s good because I trust you too,” he admitted. Trusting people was something that he hadn’t had the luxury of doing that much but with Jed he meant it and he was glad that Jed felt the same. “My schedule is much more open than yours. When are you free?” he asked, knowing that Jed had his family and his friends to think about as well whereas Ben didn’t have any of that. Taking a sip of his beer, Ben lowered the bottle slowly as Jed asked how he was finding the school so far. “It’s pretty great actually. The classes are tough but I’m trying to catch up and I’ve met some of the other students and they all seem quite nice,” he admitted. “Is your pack here?” he asked, not sure whether they were all at the school as well or whether Jed led them outside of it. Jed’s lips stretched to form a soft smile as he listened to Ben. He nodded his head a few times almost right away. “Deal.” Jed said in a soft voice. He had no doubt in his mind about that, anyway. Jed’s expression lit up like Christmas lights when Ben asked if he could show him some time. “Oh, you are so gonna regret that later on.” There was an excited grin on his lips. “I have so much to show you,” Jed said with the same grin still locked on his lips. “I’ll make a list to start us off with.” There were so many shows and movies he wanted to show Ben, but he’ll start small and go from there to make sure that Ben gets caught up so he wouldn’t feel left out when people talk about a certain movie or a TV show.
You’d better. You’ve changed so much for me already that I’d be crazy to walk away,
Jed couldn’t help but feel another wave of happiness wash over him when he heard Ben’s words. They were enough to make his eyes soften as he watched Ben quietly, his words really meant a lot to Jed. “You’ve changed so much for me too, Ben.” If he hadn’t met Ben, he wouldn’t have found out so much about himself. He probably would have remained the exact same with no changes whatsoever, so he was definitely grateful for that. Not to mention the fact that with this revelation, it felt like he had found a piece of himself that he had been missing for so long. So he was definitely grateful for that.
That’s good because I trust you too, My schedule is much more open than yours. When are you free?
”That’s good.” Jed said with a gentle smile resting on his lips, his eyes resting on Ben once again as he listened to him explain that his schedule was much more open than his. Jed leaned back in his seat and released a soft hum. He was quiet for a few seconds, just quickly trying to remember what his days off were. “I don’t think I have any classes this upcoming Wednesday..” Jed revealed with a quick nod of his head. “Same with Thursday, I think,” Jed added a moment later.
It’s pretty great actually. The classes are tough but I’m trying to catch up and I’ve met some of the other students and they all seem quite nice, Is your pack here?
“Oh, look at you social butterfly. Good for you.” Jed said with a grin resting on his lips, definitely pleased to hear that Ben was already making friends. “You’re definitely not wrong about the classes though. They are pretty tough.” Jed pointed out a moment later with a quick nod of his head, agreeing with Ben. Jed did struggle with his studies for quite some time until he eventually learned how to manage it on his own. Ben’s next question made his attention fall back on him as he nodded his head a few times before he raised the bottle to his lips to take a quick sip from the chilled beer. “Yeah, they are,” Jed revealed a moment later. “They’re pretty cool, actually,” Jed added a moment later with a smile resting on his lips. “Too cool, in fact. Sometimes I wonder if I should even be their Alpha.” Jed said with a light-hearted chuckle following from his lips. “Mainly because of the fact that they aren’t plain wolves like me. In fact, Cal is a were-jaguar, Valentina is a were-leopard, and Illyria is a were-panther.” Jed sounded pretty proud when he said that out loud. He definitely had a pretty cool pack. “I’ll introduce you to them one day. I think you will get along with them pretty well, actually.”

“Good, I’ll hold you to that,” Ben said, a smile forming on his face as he looked over at Jed. They had a lot to figure out but Ben knew that was the same in all relationships. It was different for them, it had been thousands of years since Ben had last been in a relationship and for Jed this was his first with another guy, but at the end of the day they trusted each other and Ben knew that they would figure things out in their own time. He had meant it when he’d said that they didn’t have to rush into anything, it had been such a long time since Ben had last had a connection like this with anyone and that was something that he knew that he wasn’t going to walk away from no matter what. “Never,” he chuckled as Jed said that he was going to regret it later on. “I’ve heard some of the other students talking about different shows and I know how much it means to you so I want to share it with you,” he admitted. Ben knew that he had so much to learn but Jed had already promised to help him catch up at school and Ben knew that this was something much more fun that they could do together. Ben would be lying if he said that he wasn’t scared by just how much Jed meant to him because now for the first time in thousands of years he had someone to lose but he knew that he couldn’t think like that. Jed wasn’t human, he was supernatural too and even though he was mortal Ben knew that he was much more resilient than a human would be. The thought of losing Jed was something that he didn’t even want to consider and he wouldn’t be surprised if Jed felt that way too. As Jed said that he’d changed so much for him too, Ben felt his smile return. “Looks like we’re a pretty good fit then,” he said, giving Jed’s hand a gentle squeeze. He had already seen a change in Jed since they met and Ben knew that he had changed too. Jed was making him a better person already and that was something that he hadn’t expected at all. As Jed said that he didn’t have any classes on Wednesday or Thursday, Ben nodded. “I think it’s the same for me, that could work,” he admitted. There was so much that he needed to do but the truth was that spending time with Jed was much more important to him. As Jed called him a social butterfly, Ben couldn’t help but laugh. “I wouldn’t go that far,” he chuckled. “Josie is the one I’ve been spending the most time with, I think she took pity on me when you weren’t around.” Josie had become a friend to him as well though and he was slowly starting to get to know her and others at the school. Ben knew that it would be a while before he really felt like he fit in there but he was willing to put in the work because he knew that it would be worth it in the end. “They are. I don’t even know where to start with some of them but some of the teachers have been helping me as well.” They really had been great and he was beyond grateful to them for everything they had done so far. “I know you’ve been here for a while now, how did you find a way to get on top of everything?” he asked, knowing that he would be grateful for any tips that Jed could give him. As Jed said that he sometimes wondered if he should be the others’ Alpha, Ben studied him carefully for a moment. “You’re definitely the right person for the job, the way you’ve gone out of your way to help me and the way you care about others proves that,” Ben assured him. “What they all are sounds cool but trust me when I say there’s nothing plain about you Jed,” he added, his eyes fixed on Jed as he spoke. “I can’t wait to meet them.”JED SALTZMAN

“It’s settled then. You can come over and I’ll get you caught up.” Jed promised with a quick nod of his head following. It definitely sounded like a fun thing to do with Ben. Not to mention that he wanted Ben to get caught up with the shows and movies that are currently receiving all the hype, then they can go back to the old movies and get him caught up with the classics so that he can understand all the references. Jed was definitely looking forward to it.
Jed’s heart skipped a beat when Ben gave his hand a gentle squeeze, his words making his heart clench in the most pleasant way possible as his lips stretched to form a sincere smile. “Yeah, looks like it.” Jed agreed with a grin resting on his lips, his eyes still focused on Ben. He returned the squeeze of his hand just because he wanted to. They really did seem like a good fit, didn’t they?
Jed’s expression almost looked pained for a moment as he listened to Ben who explained that Josie had taken pity on him when Jed wasn’t around. “Oh, Josie likes you a lot, actually.” Jed assured him with a small smile resting on his lips as his expression eased into a softened one when he remembered that there was no reason for him to continue feeling that way anymore. He had made up for it when he confessed his feelings to Ben. “Josie was actually the one who helped me realize that I had feelings for you.” Jed said with a breathless chuckle falling from his lips. “You’ll make friends with time, I’m sure of it. It’s pretty damn hard not to like you, honestly. I’m speaking from experience.” Jed said with a smile resting on his lips as his eyes moved to settle on Ben once again. “I can help you if you want. I know it’s not easy at all. I’m glad that they’ve been helping you, though.” Jed’s voice was soft as he spoke.
“Well, in my case, I had Alaric and Jenna helping me. I didn’t want to study at all at first and I’m pretty sure I gave them such a tough time.” Jed admitted with a half-smile tugging at the corner of his lips. “I started studying with Josie for a while, too. She’s pretty motivating. Then, I guess in my quest to become a better version of myself, I started studying on my own. I usually take a couple of hours a day just reviewing material and stuff. It’s not that easy, but it just takes some getting used to, that’s all.” Jed revealed with a quick nod of his head following, his eyes finding Ben once again. “You just gotta find your own footing and your routine, too. With both of those, you’ll be able to study pretty much everything. You also gotta remember that it’s not okay to memorize everything right away. Repetition is what makes the info stick, y’know?” Jed’s shoulders lifted and dropped in a quick shrug. “I can help you with studying if you want? We can have like a study session every other day.” Jed offered with a quick nod of his head following, his smile resting on his lips. “And don’t worry about wasting my time because I’ll be studying with you. You can ask me whenever you get stuck on something, yeah?”
Jed’s expression softened as he listened to Ben as he assured him that he was the right person for the job. It definitely made him happy to hear him say something like that because it was something he’d so desperately wanted to hear. “Thank you, Ben. I really appreciate that.” Hearing that really did mean a lot to Jed and it filled him with an urge to lean in and press his lips against Ben again but he held back, at least for now. A soft smile appeared on Jed’s lips when Ben told him that he couldn’t wait to meet them. “You guys will definitely get along.” Jed said with a soft smile resting on his lips.

“I’m looking forward to it,” Ben said, a smile touching his lips as he looked over at Jed. “Are you sure your family will be okay with that though?” he asked. Josie seemed pretty cool but he didn’t really know the rest of Jed’s family that well so he knew that the last thing he wanted was to end up making things awkward, especially since he didn’t know how they would feel about the two of them being together. Ben didn’t have any family to think about, all he had left was his father and the angel had never wanted anything to do with him even when he had needed him the most. In a way Ben envied Jed for what he had with his family but given what Jed had been through with his dad he deserved that and so much more so Ben really was happy for him. Finding something like this with Jed was something that Ben had never expected. He had been on his own for such a long time and he had kept on telling himself that he was fine with that but the truth was that he really was lonely. He had tried to keep a distance from most people to try and protect them because he hadn’t wanted anyone to get hurt by the monsters that were after him but at the end of the day things were different this time and he couldn’t deny that he was glad about that. Ben was about to comment on the look on Jed’s face when he said that Josie had taken pity on him but then Jed seemed to remember that he didn’t need to feel bad and Ben couldn’t deny that he was glad about that. “The feeling’s mutual, she’s really nice,” Ben admitted. Josie really had tried to help him and he was grateful to her for that. To start with he had thought that perhaps she was helping him because Jed had asked her to but now he wasn’t so sure. “Really?” he asked, unable to deny that he was surprised when Jed said that Josie had helped him figure out how he felt. “She really likes to help people, huh?” he asked as he looked over at his boyfriend. “Guess it runs in the family.” Both Jed and Dr Saltzman had helped him the day they had found him and it seemed that Josie was just like them. As Jed spoke again, Ben felt his smile return. “Is that so?” he asked, unable to deny that he was amused. “I’m glad it worked on you,” he grinned. As Jed offered to help him, Ben nodded. “I’d appreciate that, thanks,” he said sincerely, knowing that it would give them the chance to spend more time together which was never going to be a bad thing. “I can’t imagine that,” Ben teased, an amused smile forming on his face as he looked over at Jed. As Jed explained about his study habits, Ben found himself nodding. “I might have to give that a try,” he nodded. He’d never had to worry about school when he was younger and even though he had picked up certain things about the world over the years he had never really paid too much attention to it so there was a lot that he still didn’t know and he wanted to change that now. “Yeah, I think so,” he nodded as Jed said that repetition would make the information stick. That definitely made sense so he knew that he would keep that in mind. “That would be really good actually,” Ben admitted as Jed suggested that they have a study session together every other day. “As long as it means you’ll study as well then I’m in.” Ben really did want to make being at the school work, he knew that everyone there was taking a chance on him and he knew that he wanted to show them that they had made the right decision. This was something that he was taking seriously and he knew that he would do whatever he had to in order to make it work. As Jed thanked him, Ben shook his head. “You don’t need to thank me, it’s true,” Ben assured him. “You’ve showed me how caring you are and you’re not afraid to take risks to protect those around you. You’re a natural leader.” That was the way Ben saw it anyway and he hoped that in time Jed would too. As Jed said that he and the pack would definitely get along, Ben’s smile returned. “I hope so,” he nodded. “It’s clear how important they are to you so I want them to like me.” He wouldn’t be surprised if it would take them time to get used to anyone being with their Alpha but Ben hoped that in time they would accept him. – I freed myself from words never said –
“Yeah, they will.” Jed said with a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips. “If anything, they’ll be pretty happy that I’m finally bringing someone over.” He added a moment later with the same smile still present on his lips. If anything, they’ll probably tease him about it later on, but he was pretty excited for Ben to come over. “I’m pretty sure Jenna will fill you up with food. She’s been trying out new recipes. Once she figured she’s a great cook, she’s been unstoppable.” Jed couldn’t help the chuckle that fell from his lips when she sat him down every now and then to try out her new recipes.
When Ben told him that Josie was really nice, his lips stretched to form a soft smile before he nodded his head in agreement with him. “Yeah, she is.” Jed agreed in a soft voice, unable to deny the fact that talking about Josie always managed to effortlessly plaster a smile across his lips. “She does.” There was just something about her that always seemed to fill him with warmth. Jed was pretty happy that she had been the one to bring it to his attention that he liked Ben. Jed’s expression softened when Ben said that being nice runs in the family. He knew he was referring to the fact that he had helped him when they first met. Same with Dr Saltzman.
“Yup, very much so,” Jed confirmed with the same grin still resting on his lips. “Honestly? Me too.” He added a moment later with a chuckle falling from his lips. “Alright! It’s decided then. I’ll help.” Jed’s lips stretched into a grin as he said that, looking pretty excited about it.
A chuckle fell from Jed’s lips when Ben teased him before he rolled his eyes fondly. He was quiet as he listened to Ben before he nodded his head a few times. “I’ll study too.” He’ll try, at least. It’s the thought that counts, right? Because he doubted he’d be able to be productive around Ben. He’s too distracting. In a good way, of course.
Jed’s expression softened as he listened to Ben. His words really did mean a lot to Jed. It was everything he had wanted to hear and more. “Thank you, Ben. I really appreciate that.” Jed’s lips stretched to form a grateful smile. “Honestly, I don’t think you’re gonna need to try hard for that to happen,” Jed said with a soft smile still on his lips. “I’m pretty sure they’ll like you right away,” Jed added a moment later, sounding far from doubtful.

“Am I the first person you’ll have brought home?” Ben asked, a smile touching his lips as he looked over at Jed. There was so much about Jed and his family that Ben didn’t know but he knew that he wanted to learn everything that he could. He knew that Jed wasn’t used to liking another guy but he didn’t know whether Jed had dated any girls since arriving in Mystic Falls. Either way Ben knew that it didn’t really matter because it was clear to him that Jed felt the same way he did but he couldn’t deny that it meant a lot to him that Jed was willing to do that. “I won’t say no to that, I’m not used to home cooked meals,” Ben admitted. During his travels he had often ended up going for takeout or something that was simple to cook, he had never seen the point in learning to cook just for himself. He had already met Josie and Dr Saltzman but he couldn’t deny that the thought of meeting the rest of Jed’s family was enough to make him nervous because the last thing eh wanted was for any of them to think that he wasn’t worthy of Jed. He wouldn’t blame them if they did but the last thing he wanted was for things to become awkward so he hoped that they would like him. Jed meant so much to him so he knew that he wanted to make a good impression on the people who meant the most to Jed. “She means a lot to you, doesn’t she?” Ben asked, unable to ignore the smile that formed on Jed’s face at the mention of Josie. “They all do. I’m so glad you found them after what you went through with your dad.” It would have been easy for Jed’s life to turn out so differently but he seemed to have found a really nice family and Ben was so happy for him. He knew what it was like to not have anyone in your corner as it had been that way for him for a long time until Jed came along but now he had people that he cared about too and that was all thanks to Jed taking a chance on him. “You affect me just as much, I’m not used to it but it feels like a good thing,” he admitted. He hadn’t intentionally done anything to make Jed like him but he suspected that Jed hadn’t done anything intentionally to make him like him either. It had just seemed to happen and Ben couldn’t deny that he was happy. “Great, I’m looking forward to it,” he admitted as Jed confirmed that he would help. “I promise I’ll try and focus but you’re pretty distracting.” As Jed said that he would study too, Ben couldn’t help but laugh. “I should probably pretend I believe that, right?” he teased. He could see that Jed lacked confidence in himself at times, he seemed to doubt that he deserved to be an Alpha but there wasn’t a doubt in Ben’s mind that he was the right person for it. Jed was remarkable and Ben knew that if he had to keep reminding him of that until Jed started believing in it himself then he would. Ben had already told Jed that he didn’t need to thank him but he seemed determined to do it again anyway so instead this time Ben reached over at gave Jed’s hand a gentle squeeze. “Hopefully but if not I won’t give up until they see I’m crazy about you,” he said, a smile touching his lips as he looked over at Jed. – I freed myself from words never said –
Jed’s expression shifted into a sheepish one at Ben’s question before he nodded his head a few times. “Yeah.” Jed often found himself struggling to make new friends, especially since most of them got a bit intimidated by his status as an Alpha and the leader of the Salvatore School pack. He wasn’t the most sociable person, but with the friends he managed to make, he was loyal to them. “Guess you’re my first in a lot of things.” Jed added a moment later with a brief chuckle falling from his lips. When Ben told him that he won’t say no to homemade meals, his expression lit up. “In this case, you’ll get along really well with Jenna.” Jed assured him with a grin forming on his lips not long after. He really grateful for the family that he had been blessed with. It was almost like the universe was trying to make up for the fact that they had first placed him with an abusive man who should have never been a parent to begin with.
“She does.” Jed replied almost right away. His expression softened as he listened to Ben before he nodded his head in agreement, his smile forming on his lips almost right away. “Me too.” Jed was honestly beyond relieved that he had finally managed to find a good family to stay with. They took good care of them and made sure that he was okay. They were supportive, and understanding. They never lost faith in him, even when he pushed them away and refused their help. “I wouldn’t even be here if it weren’t for them.” Jed said with the same smile still on his lips before it momentarily disappeared so that he could take a quick sip from his drink.
Hearing that he affects Ben all the same made his heart skip a beat as a smile immediately began showing on his lips, unable to deny the fact that his words really did make him happy. It was definitely a good thing to know that he wasn’t the only one feeling affected by the power that Ben seems to hold over him. Jed’s eyes lifted to settle on Ben when he told him that he was pretty distracting which was honestly the same train of thought that Jed was experiencing. Jed couldn’t help the way his cheeks seemed to turn a little red. “Trust me, I know how you feel.” Jed said a moment later with a chuckle falling from his lips. He was definitely going to get unbelievably distracted by Ben.
Jed found himself laughing again at Ben’s teasing sentence. “You’ve got me there. Look, I’ll try but no promises. You’re pretty distracting too, if I’m being honest.” Which explained his words from earlier when he told Ben that he knows how he feels.
It was definitely going to be an interesting day.
“God, you’re such a smooth-talker.” Jed was trying not to blush again but it was too late. His face was definitely hot now. Jed lifted his drink up to his lips to take a quick sip, hoping that it would be enough to calm him down, at least a little bit, but it didn’t help at all. “Makes me want to kiss you again.” Jed admitted after a moment of silence, his eyes moving to settle on Ben again.

Seeing the change in Jed’s expression was enough to make Ben’s heart melt, even more so when Jed said that he was his first in a lot of things. “It’s nothing to be embarrassed about, if anything it makes me feel even luckier that you waited for me to come along,” Ben assured him gently. He really did care about Jed and the fact that this was all so new to him was enough to make Ben more determined than ever to do right by Jed. Ben knew that he wasn’t in a rush, he had more experience with certain things than Jed did but at the same time Jed had more experience with other things so he knew that they could figure everything out together. Ben had never been that sociable but being around Jed and being at the Salvatore School was making him start to come out of his shell a little more and he couldn’t deny that he liked it. As Jed said that he would get along really well with Jenna, Ben couldn’t help but laugh. “I think you might be right,” he chuckled. “I’ve moved around a lot and sometimes I had to leave at a moment’s notice so there was never much point in learning to cook just for me and having to leave everything behind,” he shrugged. It was why he didn’t have any possessions to call his own either but being at the Salvatore School now he couldn’t help but feel like he finally wanted to put down some roots so this time he knew that things would be different. “I’m happy for you,” he said gently, a smile touching Ben’s lips as Jed confirmed that Josie meant a lot to him. As Jed said that he wouldn’t even be here if it weren’t for them, Ben lifted his gaze to meet Jed’s. “I don’t believe that, you’re stronger than you know,” Ben assured him. That was something that he had learned about Jed pretty quickly and the more time they spent together the more he was able to see it. Jed had been through so much but he had come out of all of it the other side and Ben really was proud of him for that. Ben really wasn’t used to being around someone who affected him as much as Jed did, He hadn’t found anyone that he had wanted anything more than a one night stand with so that he didn’t feel as alone since Ashur died but Jed was completely different. Ben knew that he wanted more than that with him and that was why he was happy to take things at a speed that they were both comfortable with. That didn’t stop him from often being distracted by Jed, though, and Ben felt a smile form on his face as Jed said that he knew how he felt. “We’ll have to try not to distract each other then,” Ben chuckled although something told him that wasn’t going to be particularly easy. Jed didn’t even have to say anything to be all that Ben could think about a lot of the time so it really was going to be a challenge to focus on anything else but he knew that he would try. As Jed called him a smooth talker, Ben couldn’t help but laugh. “You’re the only person who has ever called me that,” he grinned, reaching over an letting the backs of his fingers rest against Jed’s cheek as he blushed. As Jed said that it made him want to kiss him again, Ben’s breath caught in his throat as he lifted his gaze to meet Jed’s. “I think you should,” he said, his gaze drifting lower to rest on Jed’s lips.
