– I freed myself from words never said –
Jed stopped at the entrance of the school, his eyes focused ahead of him as he captured his bottom lip between his teeth warily. Jed was still consumed by his anxiety and his inability to calm the hell down for longer than a few seconds. There was just something about the thought of admitting his feelings to Ben that made him so nervous but he also knew that he’d regret it a lot if he kept his feelings to himself and never revealed them to Ben. He didn’t want to be a coward anymore. He wanted to live the life that he chose and not feel like he was still living under the shadow of his own father.
He wanted to chase the person he wanted for once and in this case, that person was Ben. Ever since Jed laid eyes on him, he felt something akin to electricity spread through his whole body. There was something so unbelievably breathtaking about him. His smiles, his eyes, the sound of his voice. Jed could feel his heart speed up just from thinking about Ben. It all made perfect sense now.
Jed snapped out of his thoughts when he heard loud chatter coming from behind him and that was when he finally started heading deeper into the school until he finally entered and once he was inside, he met the eyes of a few students, most of them seemed glad to see him back on school grounds. He had a feeling that probably none of them actually believed that he'd been sick, but it was too late for him to go back and fix that stupid excuse of his. Plus, he had more important matters to attend to today. Jed had made a promise within himself not to allow his fear to control him again, but as he was getting closer and closer to Ben's room, he found himself incredibly anxious as his fist lifted and dropped a couple of times without actually knocking on the door.
Jed was chickening out.
He looked over to see a student heading out of her room and she gave him a weird look for standing in front of another student's room. Jed offered her an awkward smile before he turned around and walked away instead. "Where am I going? Why am I running away?" Jed whispered to himself in a panicked but disappointed voice because that wasn't a part of his plan. Truth is, Jed kept hesitating throughout most of the day, like how he used to hesitate back then with Trey and it seemed to trigger something that left him in a state of jumbled emotions and almost none of them were good emotions. The reason he managed to snap out of it was that he'd remembered Josie's words to him. Jed gulped past the lump in his throat and finally seemed to muster up the courage to go through with his plan until he risked a look at the window and noticed that nighttime had rolled by and some of the students who didn't live at the boarding school were starting to leave. Shit. Jed glanced at the door before he glanced over at the dormitory rooms. "Screw this." He'd spent nearly the entire day cowering. He won't let another day pass by without taking some sort of action. He needed Ben to know.
He didn't want Ben to go through another day thinking that the reason Jed hasn't been at school was that he'd been too forward with him or had pushed him too far. It was the complete opposite, honestly. Jed finally arrived in front of Ben's door and instead of running away this time, he actually managed to go through with it and knocked on the door a couple of times before he moved his hands to his face to wipe away any remaining tears from when he'd gotten lost in memories of the past. Memories he'd worked so hard to avoid because they brought him nothing but pain and misery. He wasn't going to repeat the same mistake again. Screw that.

It had been days since Jed had last been at the school and Ben couldn’t help but feel like he was to blame. He had realised pretty quickly that first day that he was attracted to Jed, in fact the feelings that had developed had been so intense that he hadn’t felt anything like them before, and he knew that he had probably ended up coming on a little too strong. He had let Jed know that he was interested and there were times when he had felt like the other guy liked him too but then he just disappeared. Ben had been doing his best to navigate the start of his time at the school without him but the truth was that even though they’d only spent the one day together it already wasn’t the same without him around. Josie had checked in on him and Ben couldn’t deny that he liked the girl, she had helped him get his schedule sorted, she had showed him to each of his classes and she’d found some clothes that he could have that had the school’s logo on them to tide him over until he was able to head into town and get some more. He had met a couple of other people over the last few days as well and so far there hadn’t been any monster attacks so thankfully the other students didn’t seem as intent on staring at him as much as they had done that first day but Ben knew that he still stood out. No matter how much he might try to blend in he was thousands of years older than anyone else at the school and that was never going to change. The truth was that he didn’t really care what most people thought of him though, he was only interested in what the people he was quickly starting to care about thought of him, Jed most of all. Ben had voiced his concerns to Josie and she had tried reassuring him that everything was fine and Jed would be back soon but Ben wasn’t convinced. It had been Jed who had convinced him to stay at the school but now he was nowhere to be found and all Ben could do was try and be patient. He wanted Josie to be right and for Jed to return to the school but Ben knew that if Jed was uncomfortable being around him then he would leave without any questions being asked. No matter what happened he wanted Jed to be happy and Ben knew that he would do whatever he had to in order to make that happen, even if it meant getting out of his life. Mystic Falls was meant to be a fresh start for Ben, somewhere that he might finally find a way to break the curse, but the last thing he wanted was to make things awkward for anyone or for anyone to end up getting hurt because of him so he knew that if it came down to it then he would go. That day he’d had classes to keep him busy and a couple of the people he’d started to befriend had let him sit with them at lunch but after that he’d headed out to the Old Mill for a little peace and quiet. Sitting there it was hard not to be reminded of that first day and he stayed out there for a while before heading back to his room. He knew that not all of the students stayed at the school, there were plenty who went home to their families each evening once their classes had finished so by that time the school was much quieter as he made his way through the corridors and up to his room. Heading inside, he started reading through one of the books he had been given to help him catch up with everyone else and it was then that he heard a knock on the door. Setting the book down instantly, he made his way across the room and opened the door, really not sure who would bother paying him a visit unless they had ended up getting the wrong room. As he saw Jed standing before him, Ben’s expression turned to one of confusion. “Jed?” he asked, hardly able to believe his eyes given the guy’s absence of the last few days even as his heart skipped a beat. As he realised that Jed had been crying, Ben’s expression turned to one of concern. “What’s going on, are you okay?”JED SALTZMAN

– I freed myself from words never said –
Jed’s eyes were focused on the door as he waited for Ben to open the door. He wasn’t sure if Ben was even in his room. He probably should have checked the Old Mill beforehand. Jed’s supernatural hearing caught onto the sound of movements inside Ben’s room which answered his question. Ben was definitely in there. He listened as Ben started making his way to the door and when it opened, Jed’s eyes relaxed on Ben.
There it was again.
The fluttering of his heart whenever he laid his eyes on Ben again. Jed soon realized just how much he had missed Ben when he saw him again and there it was, the guilt he felt for abandoning him after convincing Ben to stay at the school. God, he was such a horrible friend, wasn’t he? “Uh, hey.” Jed greeted as his lips stretched to form a quick smile as he lingered by the door. Jed wiped his hands nervously against his thighs for a moment. God, they were starting to get sweaty again. “Oh, I’m okay. It’s nothing.” Jed waved his hand in a dismissive manner, his eyes still focused solely on Ben. He’d missed him. A lot.
Jed gulped past the dry lump in his throat before he released a soft sigh. “Can I talk to you?” Jed asked after a beat or two of silence. “But… Not here. Let’s go to our spot.” It wasn’t just the Old Mill anymore. It was their spot. Jed took a step back and waited for Ben to join him before he started making his way to the Old Mill with Ben, remaining quiet for the most part but it wasn’t because he felt awkward. It was because he had so many things he wanted to tell him that he didn’t even know where to start.
Jed noticed that the decorative lights were on and the bonfire was alive, as always, the fire crackling, offering a comforting sound in the silence. Jed stared at it for a moment before he turned around to look at Ben. “I’m sorry, Ben.” Jed broke the silence after a pregnant pause. “I’m sorry for ditching you like that.” He wanted to apologize first before anything. “It was such a dick and cowardly move of me.” He whispered, his voice still laced with guilt and so many other emotions that he barely even knew where to start.
There was a frown already tugging at Jed’s features, but it was mainly because he was annoyed with himself because there were tears already gathering in his eyes. He had wanted to go through this without crying. “It’s not something that you did, by the way.” Jed assured him in a quiet voice as he lifted his hand to run it down his face with a sigh following. “God, you did nothing wrong. You’ve been great, honestly.” Jed added a moment later with a smile momentarily stretching his lips before he cleared his throat and blinked a few times to fight the tears. “I guess I was still hanging onto that scared little kid in me that always strived hard to appease his father.” Jed bit down on his bottom lip as he buried his hands inside the pockets of his jeans. “A few days ago you asked me about my story. I wasn’t ready to talk about it because I spent so long trying to forget about it, or at least suppress it.” Jed felt like he was ready to talk about it now because Ben deserved to know. He wanted him to know.
“My father was an abusive bully. He tried to make me hurt a friend, so I killed him instead. That’s how I activated my curse and became an alpha and—” Jed paused for a moment before he shook his head. “I don’t regret it.” Despite the fact that he should sound relieved about it, he still sounded sad because talking about it wasn’t easy at all. “My friend, Trey… Well… He might have been more than a friend now that I look back on it. But we were so young. It was just a childhood crush.” Jed’s lips stretched to form a sad smile, his expression softening a little at the thought of Trey but it was the same thought of him that made a few fresh tears fall down his cheeks, making his cheeks glisten under the fairy lights.
“The night that I saved his life and took my father’s, I turned into a werewolf for the first time and ran off. Doctor Saltzman eventually found me but I never saw Trey again…” Jed’s voice was filled with so many emotions, but the most prominent one was regret. “And that’s the part that I regret the most.” Jed took a single step toward Ben, his eyes still glistening with unshed tears. “And I realized that I was doing the same thing all over again. I realized that I was running away but this time, from you. I won’t do that again. I’m sorry, for leaving like that.”

There were a few people at the Salvatore School that Ben had found that he could talk to, a few people who knew who he was and he had been able to tell a little about what he had been through but the fact was that they weren’t Jed and Ben missed him more than he had thought possible after the short time that they had spent together. He had grown so used to having people in his life for only a short time before either they died or he had to move on but just once he had found that he wanted things to be different. Jed had promised him that Mystic Falls could become a home to him too, that he found find people who understood and got him, and Ben had thought that he’d found that but all of a sudden it was ripped away from him again and it was impossible not to feel like it was because of something that he had done. Ben wasn’t used to hiding how he felt from people he was interested in, with Ashur it had developed naturally between them and after he died Ben had had the occasional one night stand but that was it. He had never wanted anything more than that, had never wanted to put the other person in danger by sticking around for more than one night, but Jed was different. The guy had an effect on him that Ben hadn’t counted on and for the first time he’d found someone that he hadn’t wanted to leave. Ben had come to terms with his sexuality a long time ago so it had been easy for him to flirt with Jed and let him know that he was interested but after he disappeared Ben had been left wondering if perhaps he had scared him off after all and that had worried him because it was the last thing he had wanted. Now Jed was standing at his door and the sight of him alone was enough to have Ben’s heart skipping a beat but at the same time that familiar heartache he had been feeling over the last few days resurfaced just as quickly. He really had missed Jed, more than he should have done, and now he was here the truth was that Ben didn’t know what to say. The smile Jed gave him was quick and Ben found himself studying the guy carefully for a moment as he said that he was okay and that it was nothing. “It doesn’t look like nothing. Josie said you were sick, are you feeling better?” he asked, unable to deny that he was concerned. He had gotten the impression that Jed being sick was a lie but he knew that he needed to try and find out one way or the other. As Jed asked if they could talk, Ben nodded. “Sure,” he confirmed before freezing as Jed said they should go to their spot. “Our spot?” he questioned. He knew exactly where Jed meant but he hadn’t for one moment expected those words to leave the other’s lips and once again he was left wondering whether perhaps what he felt for Jed wasn’t one sided after all. As Jed said that he hadn’t done anything wrong and that he’d been great, Ben’s expression turned to one of confusion and as he saw tears shining in Jed’s eyes he longed to reach out to him and comfort him but he knew that he shouldn’t. “You don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to, it’s your story so you get to control the narrative,” Ben assured him. The last thing he wanted was for Jed to end up doing something that he wasn’t comfortable with but soon enough he was explaining about his past and it was enough to have Ben’s heart aching once more especially as Jed said that his father was abusive and it was through killing him that Jed had triggered his curse in the first place. “Nor should you,” he said as Jed revealed that he didn’t regret killing his father. “If you hadn’t done then I would have tracked him down and killed him for hurting you. You never deserved that,” Ben assured him gently. There wasn’t a doubt in his mind about that, he hadn’t known Jed for very long but the side of him that Ben had seen was so kind and gentle and Ben couldn’t imagine anyone ever wanting to hurt him. Just the mention of Trey was enough to have Ben wanting to reach up and wipe them away but he stayed where he was, his hands balling into fists with his nails digging into his palms to stop him from doing something stupid again. Instead all he could do was listen as Jed continued but as Jed began comparing their situation to what he had been through with Trey, Ben found himself wondering if perhaps he hadn’t read things wrong after all. “You don’t need to apologise but thank you for opening up to me,” he said gently, his eyes fixed on Jed’s. – I freed myself from words never said –
It doesn’t look like nothing. Josie said you were sick, are you feeling better? Sure, Our spot?
Jed's eyes softened when he heard the concern in the sound of Ben's voice. He nodded his head a few times with a small smile resting on his lips. "I'm better now." Just seeing Ben immediately made him feel better, too. So now, he could barely focus on anything else other than Ben. He was ready to stop being a coward. He won't let his fear take over him again. He had done it before and spent the next couple of years swallowed by regret and guilt. Jed won't forgive himself if he makes the same mistake again. Jed looked over at Ben when he repeated his words from earlier before nodding his head once. "Our spot." Jed repeated, his voice softer this time around.
You don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to, it’s your story so you get to control the narrative, Nor should you, If you hadn’t done then I would have tracked him down and killed him for hurting you. You never deserved that,
Jed shook his head with a small smile forming on his lips when Ben told him that he didn't have to tell him the story if he didn't want to. "I want to." Jed assured him in a soft voice. "I want you to know." Jed added a moment later. When he got the reassurance from Ben that he shouldn't regret killing his father, his shoulders seemed to sag in relief as his eyes remained fixed on Ben. His next words reminded him of the threat he made back then when Ben told him about his father, about how horrible the man was that Jed had made a threat to punch the angel straight in the face, completely ignoring the fact that the man was an angelic being. Jed released a brief chuckle at that, his eyes softening. "Thank you. Neither did you." He added a moment later with a quick nod of his head, referring to Ben's own past and his own issues with his father.
You don’t need to apologise but thank you for opening up to me,
Jed's lips stretched to form a soft smile at that, grateful to hear that Ben didn't hate him. "No, I did." He added a moment later. "Did you know that, uh, I used to be a bully too? It took me years, maybe right up until this moment right now to realize that it was only who I was raised to be. It's not who I am." Jed's voice was still unstable as he still looked tearful, but he wasn't crying anymore. Jed took yet another step closer to Ben, slowly but surely closing the distance between them as he stood in front of him.
"But I know now. I'm ready to let go of the person that my father wanted me to be. That's why I've been wanting to talk to you ever since you told me your story. To tell you that I know how you feel. To tell you how I feel."

“I’m glad,” Ben said sincerely. He still got the impression that there was something more going on than Jed was telling him but the truth was that Ben trusted him so he knew that Jed would tell him in his own time if he felt comfortable doing so. Until then Ben knew that he should just be relieved that Jed was back at the school and he was. He had travelled around the world more times than he cared to admit and he had met a lot of different people during that time but none of them had had the effect on him that Jed did, not even Ashur. It was both scary and incredible at the same time but he knew better than to question it too much, instead he just wanted to go with it. Ben had thought that Jed had misspoken when he had called the Old Mill their spot but as he repeated those words and confirmed what he had said it was enough to have Ben’s heart hammering in his chest. “I like the sound of that,” he admitted. For the last few days he had found himself worrying that he had scared Jed off, that the guy wouldn’t want to have anything to do with him, but those two words alone were enough to fill him with hope that that wasn’t the case after all. As they reached the Old Mill something seemed to change and Ben knew that he didn’t want Jed to feel like he had to do something that he wasn’t comfortable with. Jed meant so much to Ben already and Ben wanted to learn as much about him as he could but the other day Jed hadn’t felt ready to share his story and Ben wasn’t sure what had changed but he didn’t want Jed to feel like he didn’t have a choice in the matter. As Jed said that he wanted him to know, however, those words were although to bring a smile to Ben’s face. “Alright. Know that whatever you have to tell me I will hear it with my very soul,” Ben said, his eyes fixed on Jed as he told his story. “It looks like we both know what it’s like to have fathers who have never deserved that title,” he admitted said that he hadn’t deserved what he had been through either. “For what it’s worth I’m sorry about Trey. Have you thought about finding him?” he asked even though just the thought of that happening after Jed had told him that he’d had a crush on the guy was enough to make jealousy flood through Ben. That was something that he hadn’t felt for such a long time and never in this context, but he wanted Jed to be happy and if reuniting with Trey was what it took then so be it. No matter what Ben knew that he couldn’t hold Jed’s absence against him, it sounded like he had been through so much and it also sounded like he had figured a few things out since Ben got the impression that Jed hadn’t really known how he had truly felt about Trey until now. Ben knew that it was different for everyone, he’d been lucky to have figured things out and had the time that he’d had with Ashur but it wasn’t like that for everyone and it sounded like it hadn’t been that way for Jed to his heart really did go out to him. As Jed spoke again, Ben shook his head. “No, I didn’t. You’ve never been anything but kind to me.” He found it hard to imagine Jed as a bully but deep down he knew that it shouldn’t be that surprising given what he now knew about the guy’s father. “I’m glad you figured it out,” he added, his breath catching in his throat as Jed started closing the distance between them. Jed’s next words were enough to have Ben’s expression softening as he looked over at him. “It’s alright if you’re not ready,” he said slowly, his tone gentle as he spoke unable to tear his eyes away from Jed’s as his heart began to race once more. Alright. Know that whatever you have to tell me I will hear it with my very soul, It looks like we both know what it’s like to have fathers who have never deserved that title, For what it’s worth I’m sorry about Trey. Have you thought about finding him?
Jed's lips stretched to form a soft smile when Ben told him that he will hear him with his very soul. It was definitely a sentence that made his heart skip a beat. "Oh god... Wow." Jed breathed out with a small chuckle following. It did feel good to hear that, though. It felt good to know that he'd be heard. With a sigh, Jed told his story to Ben. He told him about his abusive father, about Trey, about the fact that he had activated his curse by killing his father and that explained how he was currently an Alpha despite his young age. "Yeah..." Jed agreed with Ben, a soft sigh falling from his lips. They really had no luck when it came to fathers. "Thanks." Jed responded when Ben told him that he was sorry about Trey. "Me too." He added a moment later. "Yeah, I have. But, even if I found him, I wouldn't know what to say to him to make up for what I had done." Jed admitted in a soft voice.
No, I didn’t. You’ve never been anything but kind to me. I’m glad you figured it out, It’s alright if you’re not ready,
Jed sent Ben a smile when he told him that he had never been anything but kind to him. He was pretty glad they hadn't met before because Jed was absolutely awful back then. He treated people like shit. Especially other werewolves. He had treated the Saltzman family terribly at first, too. He was such an ungrateful little shit.
Jed nodded his head in agreement with Ben. He was pretty glad he had figured it out, too. It really did feel like a whole weight had lifted off his shoulders. When he heard Ben's assurance, Jed's eyes relaxed on his lips, not letting the assurance linger in the air for long because he was ready. Jed closed the distance between them and pressed his lips against Ben's.
In the most cliché way possible, the second their lips were pressed together, Jed could feel fireworks going off behind his closed eyelids. Jed's heart was beating wildly, just from the realization that he was actually kissing Ben. His lips felt soft against his own and Jed knew if he wasn't careful, he'd grow addicted to the way they felt against his own. Jed's heart was beating wildly in his chest. He honestly felt like he could barely breathe. It was everything he had imagined and more. Jed was happy that for once he didn't allow his fear and anxiety to pull him away from what he desired the most. Or in this case, who he desired the most.

“No pressure,” Ben said, a smile touching his lips as he looked over at Jed. He really didn’t mean for Jed to feel pressured in any way, Ben just needed him to know that he was willing to hear him out no matter what it was that he had to say. He knew what he wanted Jed to say, he wanted Jed to tell him that this wasn’t one sided after all, but he knew that only time would tell. He hadn’t expected Jed to tell him that he had killed his father rather than killing his friend but he really didn’t blame Jed one bit. Families were complicated, that much was certain, but Jed seemed to be doing better now and Ben really was glad about that. Nodding as Jed agreed with him when he said that some fathers didn’t deserve that title, Ben’s expression softened. “You know, sometimes I think that the true curse we carry is family,” he admitted. They could control what they did but they couldn’t control what their family did and they had both been wronged by the people who should have cared for them the most. As Jed said that he didn’t know what he would say to Trey even if he found him again, Ben’s heart went out to him. “You were both so young when it happened, I’m sure he would understand,” he said gently. A selfish part of him knew that he really didn’t want to be suggesting to Jed that he try and find Trey again and just the thought was enough to make Ben jealous but he knew that he couldn’t afford to be selfish with Jed, it wouldn’t be fair of him. It had taken a lot of courage for Jed to open up to him the way he had done and Ben knew that he wanted to support him no matter what. Ben had never seen Jed as a bully and he was pretty sure that he never would. Ever since he had woken up in what had now become his room at the school Jed had been nothing but kind and understanding of his situation and Ben just couldn’t see him being any other way with everyone else. He did believe Jed when he explained what he used to be like it was just difficult for him to imagine. It was easy for Ben to say that it was alright if Jed wasn’t ready, the last thing he wanted was for the guy to do something that he wasn’t ready for and if that meant that Ben had to wait for him then he knew that he would be more than happy to do so. No sooner had the assurance left his lips than Jed was closing the distance between them and kissing him, though, and Ben brought first one hand up to rest against Jed’s cheek and then the other as he kissed him back, pouring everything that he felt for him into the kiss. Ben had been in love before but the attraction he felt towards Jed was so much more intense and he felt his heart racing as the kiss continued. Finally Ben needed to catch his breath and he pulled back although not too far, his hands still resting against the sides of Jed’s face. “Well, that was certainly unexpected,” he admitted, his eyes searching Jed’s as he spoke. “Can I take it that means that you like me too?”JED SALTZMAN

– I freed myself from words never said –
You know, sometimes I think that the true curse we carry is family, You were both so young when it happened, I’m sure he would understand,
Jed nodded his head as he processed Ben's words. "That makes sense." The curse that he carried turned him into such an awful person because even after everything, he was still becoming like his father like it was something that was simply inevitable. But now, he was beginning to realize that it was anything but. Jed's lips stretched into a soft smile at Ben's words. He really hoped so. Jed really wanted nothing more than to find Trey and apologize for the fact that he'd run off without him when he had made a promise to always be there for him, to protect him. Jed blinked out of his thoughts before they could consume him whole. He didn't want to be lost in his own thoughts and wind up not telling Ben the most important thing.
His feelings for him.
Jed closed the distance between the two of them and kissed Ben which he hoped would convey just what his feelings were. When they pulled back from the kiss to allow themselves some room to breathe properly and slowly, his eyes opened to relax on Ben, enjoying the warmth of Ben's hands against his cheeks. "Yeah..." Jed breathed out with a quiet chuckle falling from his lips not long after. "Oh, you definitely can." Jed added a moment later as he processed Ben's next question, his eyes distractedly focused on his lips for a moment before his gaze lifted to meet Ben's. "I like you." Jed revealed in a soft voice. It felt really good to admit that out loud. It felt good to not run away from it anymore. He was finally ready to embrace that side of himself. "Took me a moment to realize what that feeling was, but after I realized what it meant, everything became clear to me." Jed admitted in a soft voice, his eyes still focused on Ben's. "I like you." Jed repeated one more time, his smile coming back to his lips as he kept his eyes on Ben's.

When Ben was younger he had thought that he had known all there was to know about his family. His mother had told him about his father and his father had died before he was born. He hadn’t known just how complicated things would end up getting back then but he had later on learned that his mother wasn’t his birth mother after all and his father wasn’t even human. Families had a habit of shaping their lives whether they wanted them to or not – it had certainly been that way for Ben and he could see now that it had been that way for Jed as well. They couldn’t often control what happened but they could decide what they did with their lives and how they lived them and that was something that it had taken Ben a long time to realise but he knew that he didn’t want Jed to go through the same thing. Jed had already been through so much and looking over at him now Ben knew that he wanted to protect him from any more heartache if he could. One thing was for sure – Ben definitely hadn’t expected Jed to kiss him but he couldn’t deny that it was a pleasant surprise and in that moment time had no meaning, all that mattered was the feeling of Jed’s lips against his own. It would have been easy to stay locked in that moment forever and forget about everything else but they couldn’t and eventually they both pulled back to catch their breath. “Great,” Ben said, a grin forming on his face as Jed confirmed that he could take it as meaning that Jed liked him too. Now he knew what had happened in Jed’s past the way he had needed some space definitely made sense. Ben still wasn’t convinced that Jed had been sick, it seemed more likely that he had been trying to figure all of this out and that was something that he could definitely understand. As Jed said that he liked him, Ben’s heart skipped a beat. As he said he liked him, Ben felt his smile widen. “That’s good because I like you too,” he admitted, leaning forward and pressing a light kiss to Jed’s lips before pulling back, not wanting to overwhelm him since it seemed that this was all new to Jed. “You’re the reason I decided to stay more than anything else, I wanted to get to know you better,” he added, his eyes searching Jed’s as he spoke. “I know this is probably all so scary for you, I still remember what it was like for me when I realised how I felt about Ashur,” he said gently. “I’ll give you all the time you need, I can wait,” Ben assured him, his eyes locked on Jed’s as he spoke. He wasn’t sure what Jed wanted or needed right now but if he wanted to take things slowly rather than launching straight into something then Ben knew that he could do that, he would do anything for Jed. That’s good because I like you too, You’re the reason I decided to stay more than anything else, I wanted to get to know you better,
Jed's lips stretched into a soft smile, unable to help the way his heart skipped a beat when he heard that Ben liked him too. It really did make him happy. It seemed that for once, the stars had aligned in his favor. There was no denying that Jed was pretty happy about how things had turned out. "That's good." Jed said with the same smile still resting on his lips. Jed's eyes softened when Ben told him that he was the reason that Ben had decided to stay at the school more than anything else. "I'm really glad that you did." When Ben decided to stay, it allowed them to get closer and also allowed Jed to discover his feelings for Ben. He was pretty damn glad to have met someone like Ben.
I know this is probably all so scary for you, I still remember what it was like for me when I realised how I felt about Ashur, I’ll give you all the time you need, I can wait,
Jed's eyes softened as he listened to Ben. "Thank you." He said in a soft voice. "That means a lot to me." The fact that he was willing to wait so patiently for him... It really did mean a lot to Jed. "It's okay, though. You don't have to wait. I wanna give this a shot. Scary or not." Jed said with a soft smile resting on his lips as his eyes relaxed on Ben once again. "I'm ready for this. For us." Jed added a moment later with a quick nod of his head following. "I don't wanna wait anymore." Jed admitted in a soft voice, his eyes still on Ben's.

Ben had wanted to hear that Jed liked him more than anything and now he had done he couldn’t deny that it felt far too good to be true. He had been on his own for such a long time and even though he’d had one night stands in the past those had only ever given him the kind of companionship that he had been missing for a short time. He hadn’t thought that he would ever find what he’d had with Ashur again but the truth was that he really did like Jed and that was something that he hadn’t expected at all when he woke up at the school. “So am I,” Ben admitted as Jed said that he was glad he had decided to stay for him. He wanted to find a way to break the curse, that much was true, but he really hadn’t wanted to put anyone at the school in danger so he had been ready to leave until Jed had talked him out of it. The hope that they might finally find a way to break the curse was still there but more than anything Ben knew that he wanted to get to know the guy who had come to mean so much to him so quickly better. It was easy for Ben to know what he wanted because he’d had a lot more time to come to terms with this but it wasn’t like that for Jed. Now that Ben knew what Jed had been thinking about lately he wouldn’t be surprised if that was the reason why he had taken time off school. It was messy and confusing trying to figure it all out and Ben really was willing to wait for Jed for as long as he had to. One thing he had learned over the years was how to be patient and the last thing Ben wanted was for Jed to feel like he had to rush into something that he wasn’t ready for. They hadn’t known each other for very long but the feelings Ben had for Jed were so intense and he had a feeling that perhaps it was the same for Jed. “Of course. I don’t want you to feel like you have to rush into anything,” he said gently. Ben hadn’t thought that he would end up wanting to start a relationship with anyone but Jed was different and it was refreshing to have found someone that he could be himself with. Ben had already been gearing himself up to waiting for Jed so he was slightly taken aback when Jed said that he didn’t have to wait because he was ready to give it a shot. It didn’t take him long to recover, though, and he felt a smile touch his lips as he ran his hands down Jed’s neck and along his shoulders as his eyes met Jed’s. “Are you sure?” he asked, not wanting Jed to feel like he had to do this. Soon enough however Jed was saying that he was ready for them and that he didn’t want to wait anymore. “You have no idea how happy I am to hear you say that,” he admitted, his smile returning as he nodded. “I guess that would make you my, what’s the word, boyfriend, if you’re okay with that?” he asked, hoping he had remembered that correctly. “If you’d rather hold off on that then I’ll understand though, we can take this at your speed. There’s no pressure from me, okay?” he added, needing Jed to know that he wasn’t going to make him do anything that he wasn’t ready for either when it came to the physical stuff or defining what they were. Of course. I don’t want you to feel like you have to rush into anything, Are you sure?
Jed felt a soft smile tug at his lips as he processed Ben's words. At the moment, Jed didn't really feel like he was rushing into anything. He felt like everything was perfect, for once. "You don't have to worry about that. I don't feel like we're rushing into anything. Everything feels..." Jed trailed off, his smile still present on his lips. 'Perfect." He added a moment later, his voice still soft. When Ben asked him if he was sure, he nodded his head a few times. "I'm sure." He'd never been more certain in his entire life. Everything, for once, felt super clear in front of his eyes. Now that his feelings were out in the open, he could see things a lot clearer. He could see that he was ready for this. He was ready to be with Ben, with no limitations.
You have no idea how happy I am to hear you say that, I guess that would make you my, what’s the word, boyfriend, if you’re okay with that? If you’d rather hold off on that then I’ll understand though, we can take this at your speed. There’s no pressure from me, okay?
Jed's lips stretched to form a grin when Ben told him that he was happy to hear him say that. "That's good." Jed said with the same grin still resting on his lips. He tilted his head slightly to the side as he listened to Ben before his expression softened. Boyfriends. He could help the quick chuckle that fell from his lips at Ben's words though when he seemed to search for the right word to describe what they are. "Yeah, I guess so." Jed said with a small teasing smile tugging at his lips. "I guess that makes you my boyfriend, then." He teased him in a light-hearted voice. "All jokes aside, yeah. I'm okay with that." Jed said a moment later as he paused his teasing to give Ben a solid answer to his question.
"I know, Ben." Jed said with a soft smile tugging at his lips. "But there's nothing pressuring about this." Jed added a moment later with a quick nod of his head following. "I don't want to waste any more time. I feel like I'd done enough of that when I disappeared out of the blue."

Even now Ben could still remember vividly how strange it had been at first when he had realised that he’d had feelings for Ashur rather than a woman in their village. The world had moved on since then and same sex relationships were widely accepted now but it was never easy accepting something that would set a person apart from everyone else so Ben hadn’t wanted Jed to say that he was ready only to end up regretting it later. As it was Jed confirmed that he didn’t feel like they were rushing into anything and that alone was enough to have Ben’s expression softening. “I’m so happy to hear you say that,” he admitted. “It feels perfect to me too.” Ben knew that he didn’t want it to be just a one night thing with Jed like it had been with everyone else he had been with since Ashur, he wanted so much more than that and he felt a smile touch his lips as Jed said that he was sure this was what he wanted. “Alright then, looks like we’re doing this,” he grinned. Ben wasn’t really sure how this was meant to work, it had been such a long time since he had last been in a relationship and so much had changed since then. He hoped he had used the right word and he felt his cheeks flush red as Jed teased him. Ben really was doing his best but there was so much that he had yet to learn and he knew that it came from spending so many years living on the outside without really getting to know anyone. This was the first time in a long time that he’d let anyone get close to him and it was both scary and exhilarating at the same time. “Good because otherwise that would have been embarrassing,” Ben chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck in a nervous gesture. “It has been a long time since I was last in a relationship but hopefully we can figure it out together.” Ben wasn’t sure what experience Jed had with being in a relationship but from what Jed had told him this was his first time realising that he liked another guy so they both needed to find their feet a little. As Jed spoke again, Ben’s expression softened. “Please don’t be too hard on yourself about that, you had a lot you needed to work through and figure out,” he said gently. “It looks like we’re in agreement though, we won’t waste anymore time,” he added with a nod. Ben knew just how previous life was so he was more than happy to go along with that. “Do you want to stay out here for a while or do you need to get back?” he asked as he realised that it was probably starting to get a bit late. I’m so happy to hear you say that, It feels perfect to me too. Alright then, looks like we’re doing this,
Jed was pretty happy about it, too, honestly. Everything felt perfect. It really was the outcome he'd wanted all along when he first knocked on Ben's door. Just the thought that none of this would have happened if he had decided to continue being a coward really made him feel sick to his stomach. He was glad that, for once, he didn't allow his nerves to take control of him. He decided to chase what he wanted for once.
Good because otherwise that would have been embarrassing, It has been a long time since I was last in a relationship but hopefully we can figure it out together.
Jed let out a chuckle at that before he nodded his head in agreement. "Oh, for sure." He said with the same grin still visible on his lips. His expression softened when Ben told him that it has been a long time since he was in a relationship. "It's okay. We'll take it easy." Jed said with a quick nod of his head. "And like you said, we can figure it out together. We'll probably mess up every now and then, but that's okay too. Part of the learning process, right?" Jed's shoulders lifted and dropped in a quick shrug, his smile still present on his lips as always.
Please don’t be too hard on yourself about that, you had a lot you needed to work through and figure out, It looks like we’re in agreement though, we won’t waste anymore time, Do you want to stay out here for a while or do you need to get back?
Jed's lips stretched to form a grateful smile when Ben told him not to be too hard on himself. "Okay." He'll try not to be. Plus, there was no need for him to linger on that anymore. Not when he'd finally managed to confess his feelings to Ben. "Perfect." Jed's lips stretched to form a grin at that. Jed glanced around him for a moment before his shoulders lifted and dropped in a quick shrug. "We can stay out here, I don't have to go anywhere else. I'm all yours until it's time to go to bed.' Jed said with a quick nod of his head following before he quickly seemed to realize that implication in his words. "Separately. Go to bed separately." Jed added a moment later with a clear of his throat following, trying not to let his thoughts stray too far ahead. They'd just confessed to one another, he can't think about that yet.
