When Jenna was turned into a siphoner by those freaky beings, she never thought that it would be passed down to her daughters. Her kids, for the most part, looked really normal. Behaved normally too. It really looked like they were perfectly human without anything supernatural pumping through their veins like Jenna. At first, it was so damn scary for Jenna because she had no idea what she was, but Alaric was right there by her side, helping her overcome her fear and learn more about her own kind. He helped her realize that it was perfectly okay to feel scared of the unknown, of what she was capable of doing, but he reassured her that she was not evil and honestly? She had no idea what she would have done if it weren't for his help. She probably would've sunk deep into her own misery for so long. But thanks to him, she grew comfortable with it and now, she was confident in her own abilities and knew that she was perfectly capable of protecting her family if the need suffices.
Jenna blinked out of her thoughts, refocusing on the movie she was currently watching with Ric. She leaned her head against his shoulder and smiled to herself, feeling overwhelmed by happiness. "I love you, you know that?" Jenna broke her silence with that and with a small smile, she leaned up to press a quick kiss on his cheek, her thumb tracing over her ring, her happiness quite clear. She leaned away from Ric's arm when she heard Lizzie's cries. The kids were in their baskets with them in the living room as Jenna didn't want to leave them in their nursery which was decorated so nicely and it was all thanks to Ric and Elena. She was about to get up when Elena volunteered to do it and went to pick up Lizzie from her basket to soothe her. Jenna's eyes stilled on Lizzie's hand which was now touching Elena. It looked normal at first, but there was a glow underneath Lizzie's small palm that matched the glow of a siphoner. It certainly matched Jenna's. "Please tell me I'm not the only one seeing that..." Could it just be Lizzie...? "Um. Elena, I'm sorry this might sound weird but can you pick Josie too?" She needed to see. To be sure.
Sure enough, she saw the same glow underneath Josie's palm. She turned to look at Ric. "They're just like me..."

It had been a little while since he and Jenna had brought the twins home from the hospital but they had managed to get settled into a routine. Having the kids around really was a huge help as it meant that they were on hand to step in when he and Jenna needed a break or needed a little extra sleep and he knew that they would have been stuck without them. He knew that they were all going to be relieved when the girls started sleeping through the night but that wasn’t going to be for a while so until then they were just doing the best they could. He had been able to take some time off work after the twins were born so that he could be there to help Jenna as much as possible and together they had proved to be a pretty good team just like they always were. It was still a little overwhelming at times especially since Ric always had it in the back of his mind that their girls might have inherited Jenna’s witch status but even if they had he knew that they would find a way to deal with it and they would love the girls regardless. There was a time when Ric had thought that every supernatural creature out there was evil but he had seen the error of his ways a few years ago and now he knew to give people a chance. It had scared him when those monsters had turned Jenna into a siphoner but it hadn’t changed the way that he felt about her, nor had the fact that Elena was a vampire or that Kyle was a werewolf changed the fact that he still saw them both as his kids. It didn’t really matter to him whether the girls were human or magical as he knew that he would protect them with everything that he had no matter what. That day the girls were fast asleep so Ric was able to enjoy some time watching a movie with Jenna and Elena. With his arm wrapped around Jenna’s shoulders, Ric let his head rest against hers as she let her head rest against his shoulder. “I do. I love you too,” he said, hooking his finger under her chin as she kissed his cheek before kissing her gently. He had never thought that he would get to have this kind of happiness after Isobel left but now he finally had everything that he’d ever wanted and he knew that he wanted to make the most of every minute of it. Ric was about to get up when Lizzie began to cry but Elena beat him to it so he settled back down with Jenna and his gaze returned to the TV screen. As Jenna spoke he could hear the worry in her voice, however, and he immediately turned his attention to where Elena was holding Lizzie. “You’re not,” he assured Jenna. He had known that there was a chance but as Elena picked up Josie as well it quickly became clear that both girls were siphoners like their mom. “That doesn’t have to be a bad thing, we knew there was a chance,” he said gently. “They’re still our girls and we’ll teach them as best we can.” Luckily there were others that they could turn to for help with that but they had plenty of time to think about that anyway. “Are you ok?” he asked Jenna, his voice laced with concern as he spoke. Jenna was shocked more than she was scared because they had looked normal to the point where she really thought they were perfectly human. That was all until they siphoned magic out of Elena and helped her realize that they were just like her and in a way, she wasn't sure what to make out of it as her lips parted and closed, searching helplessly for something to say in that particular moment. Her eyes shifted to Alaric, her lips finally pursing into a thin line as she nodded her head slowly. They both knew the possibility of the girls being siphoners just like her, but still... It shocked her to the core to actually see it. "I know... I know. I'm just surprised, that's all." Jenna whispered, as she blinked a few times to get past her initial shock.
As always, Ric was right there to comfort her and show her that it wasn't that bad. To let her know that they would do everything in their might to make sure they don't go down a dark path. All she wanted for her daughters was for them to have a perfect life. To be happy and healthy, she really wanted nothing else.
Jenna sent him a soft smile before she nodded her head. "I know. Thank you." She said with a soft voice, her eyes focused on Alaric for a few seconds before she looked back at her daughters to see what they were doing right now. "Huh? Oh, yeah. Yeah. I'm okay, really. I guess I was just shocked because they looked so... normal? I don't know. It's silly, I know." Jenna explained in a soft voice as she worried her bottom lip between her teeth. "But I'm okay, really. I know we will take care of our girls. I know we won't let anything bad happen to them and that's all I care about." Jenna nodded her head as her gaze soon shifted back to Alaric. "What about you? Are you okay?"

Ric knew all too well just how easy it was for looks to be deceiving. There were a lot of people who looked normal at first glance but had a lot more to them than met the eye and Jenna definitely fell into that category, as did Ric himself he supposed. Jenna had been turned into a witch by the people who had taken her but it hadn’t changed the way that Ric felt about her. If anything the ordeal seemed to have made her stronger and he knew that he didn’t want to be with anyone else. They had built a family together and they were happy so for the first time in years it felt like everything had fallen into place. He had known that there was a chance that one or both of the girls might be witches like their mom but even if they were he had always known that it wouldn’t really change a thing. The shock was written all over Jenna’s face, though, and Ric wrapped his arm a little tighter around her. “I know, I am too,” he admitted. He didn’t really know a lot about siphoners and even though he had tried to research them after finding out that Jenna was one he hadn’t been able to come up with much. It had seemed that most of them didn’t learn what they were until they were older than the twins were now but then again they probably didn’t grow up around such a diverse family. Both girls had unintentionally siphoned from Elena so he knew that they were going to have to be careful. “It’s not silly,” he assured her. “A lot of the time it doesn’t look like there is anything different about people but for the twins this is normal. It isn’t going to stop them from having the same upbringing that other kids do,” he promised. He knew that things would be a bit different but for the most part at least they would still be able to lead normal lives. What he wanted more than anything was for their girls to be happy and as long as they were then he knew that that was all that mattered. They probably could have found a way to take away their abilities but Ric knew that it wouldn’t be fair of them to do that. It would mean that they would be locking away a part of their daughters and that was the last thing that either of them would want so Ric knew that it wasn’t even an option. “That’s right, we won’t,” he said, a soft smile working its way across his face as his gaze met Jenna’s. “I’m fine, I’m getting used to being surrounded by powerful women,” he chuckled. Jenna had adapted to being a witch incredibly and Elena seemed to be doing the same now that she was a vampire as well. Even Abby was a formidable young woman in her own right so he wasn’t at all surprised that the girls weren’t any different. JENNA SALTZMAN

A lot of the time it doesn’t look like there is anything different about people but for the twins this is normal. It isn’t going to stop them from having the same upbringing that other kids do,
Jenna felt a gentle smile form on her lips at Ric's words. "I knew I could always count on you to know exactly what I want to hear. Thank you, baby." Jenna's voice was soft as she spoke, her eyes focused solely on the man. "You're right. I won't let that dictate who they are." Jenna said with a small smile on her lips. "We'll help them. I know we will." She breathed out as she ran her fingers through her hair, her little panic finally easing away and it was all thanks to the love of her life.
That’s right, we won’t. I’m fine, I’m getting used to being surrounded by powerful women,
Jenna felt a smile touch her lips at her lover's words. "We won't." She repeated, sounding a lot more confident this time around. She laughed at Alaric's words as she nudged him gently with her elbow. "You're wonderful, Alariic Saltzman." Jenna said with a soft smile on her lips. "And I love you." She added a moment later as she leaned forward to press a kiss on her cheek. "And don't worry, us powerful women will protect you." Jenna teased with a half-smile on her lips. "So you can count on us." She continued to tease before her gaze drifted over to her daughters.

In the beginning Ric had thought that all supernaturals were bad but he had quickly learned the error of his ways. Being supernatural didn’t mean that someone had to be bad just like being human didn’t mean that someone had to be good. There was both good and bad in everyone and it was the part that they chose to act on that determined what kind of person they were, not what they were. He hadn’t thought that he would end up falling in love with someone who would end up becoming a witch or that he would have a vampire and a werewolf for kids along with another who had been fed demon blood as a child but Ric knew that he wouldn’t change his family for anything in the world. For the longest time he hadn’t thought that he would get to have a family at all so he knew better than to let something like that worry him and he wasn’t worried about the girls being siphoners like their mom either – they were still their little girls. “You’re welcome,” Ric said as he leaned forward and pressed his lips gently against Jenna’s. “At least we know now so we can teach them as they get older,” he added, grateful that they had plenty of time to get ready for that rather than having it sprung on them later on down the line. “We’re going to be with them every step of the way. It won’t dictate who they are; it will just be a part of them.” That was something that he was certain about and that wasn’t going to change. Ric could already see that Jenna was feeling more confident and for that he was glad. He knew that she had been worrying about the girls but as far as he was concerned there wasn’t any reason for her to, they would deal with this the same way that they did everything else - together. “I love you too,” he said, a smile forming on his face he looked over at Jenna. As she said that the powerful women in his life would protect him and that he could count on it, Ric couldn’t help but laugh. “I am,” he chuckled. “I’m just a lowly hunter, I bow to your greatness.”JENNA SALTZMAN
