Jenna still couldn't believe it. Was it all true, after all? The stories her parents as well as Miranda used to tell her before bed about vampires and all those creatures that could only belong in fictional stories? It still doesn't feel real, but after those "things" abducted her, she started really seeing that it was all true and not just stories. It was a lot to take in but if those stories were true.. Then her niece and nephew are in danger and she possibly cannot put them through any more trauma, so she wanted to keep the truth to herself for the time being until she was certain about what they had done to her. Jenna found herself getting dressed and putting as much distance between herself and home as possible before she could do any more damage. Her bedroom had suffered enough from when she had siphoned magic and flung all the contents on top of her dresser off and onto the ground. It left her scared and beyond surprised and it showed on her face with how pale it was.
Jenna sniffed and wiped her tears away. She was standing in front of Ric's apartment, her heart pounding quickly in her chest and her hands trembling. But she tried her best to suppress it and hide it from sight so she wouldn't let it show. It was all happening before Prom and Elena had already gone through enough, so she didn't want to drop more on her shoulders. It was a problem that only she can fix but she needs guidance. She needs someone to calm her down and that screamed Ric to her. Once she was certain her tears were no longer falling down her cheeks, she gently knocked on the door and took a small step back.

There had always been unanswered questions in Ric’s life, he had always wondered what had happened to Helen to make her leave him behind so quickly not just once but twice and now he knew what that was. She had fallen pregnant while they were in high school and again when they reunited over a year later and even though he would have stood by her and raised the children with her given that she really was his first love, he hadn’t been given the chance and her father had seen to that. He had threatened Ric’s life and even though he knew that he could have looked after himself even up against the gangster, he still understood why she had done what she had done. He didn’t blame her for the decisions she had made since she had been doing it to protect him but he still hated the fact that he had missed out on the chance to watch his children grow up. Kyle and Abby were both incredible kids and they were so independent that at times it felt like they didn’t even really need him but he was determined to be there for them now that he had the chance. He was still finding his feet when it came to being a father but Jenna had stood by him through everything and if he was honest he was pretty sure that he would have been lost without her so he knew that he was going to have to find a way to make it up to her somehow. As it was he hadn’t actually seen her for a few days and he would be lying if he said that he wasn’t starting to worry. Every time he had tried to call it had gone straight through to voicemail but he knew that she was probably just busy with her friends since she had told him that she was heading out of town for a couple of days to meet up with some people she had gone to school with. Ric had wanted to go with her but given that way that things were with Abby and Kyle at the moment it hadn’t felt right leaving the two of them even if it was only for a few days so he had stayed behind and a lot of his time had been spent reviewing the details of the houses that Jenna had brought over since the apartment clearly wasn’t big enough for him and two teenagers. Ric was alternating between grading the last few papers of the term and checking out brochures when he heard a knock on the door and he made his way over to it, opening it to find Jenna standing before him. “Hey,” he said, a smile working its way across his face automatically before he realised that Jenna’s eyes were red and it looked like she had been crying. Without even thinking about it he pulled her into his arms and hugged her tightly. “What is it, what’s wrong?”JENNA SALTZMAN

Jenna felt relief fill her heart when the doors opened to reveal none other than Alaric. Seeing him was more than enough to put a faint smile on Jenna's lips. She had missed him. More than anything. She missed the smell of cologne, his comforting presence and the feeling of his lips against her own whenever they would share fleeting kisses. It didn't take long for Alaric to see that she had been crying, she was certain her eyes were red now and that it was long past hiding.
Jenna let out a breathy exhale when Alaric's arms wrapped around her in a hug that she didn't know she needed until it happened. A breath of relief fell from her lips as her arms tightened around Alaric's middle, holding him close to her. "I just need you to hold me for a minute." Jenna whispered, her fingers tightening around the fabric of Alaric's shirt. "It's been a long, long past couple of days." She breathed out, her eyes fluttering shut momentarily before she finally leaned away. "I'll tell you everything over coffee?" Her throat felt so dry and she needed nothing more than something warm to drink.

Nothing in Ric’s life ever seemed to go to plan - Isobel had abandoned him when she had chosen becoming a vampire over being with him, Helen had kept the fact that he had two kids from him which had resulted in him not being able to be there for them while they were growing up and there always seemed to be something out of the ordinary going on in Mystic Falls. In a way Ric had grown used to the way things were but the one constant that he always seemed to have in his life was Jenna and he had found himself really missing her while she was away even though it was only meant to be for a few days. He had work and the kids to keep him busy but even though they were both busy people he and Jenna never failed to make sure that they had time to spend together and he couldn’t wait for that to continue when she got back. He hadn’t received any call or text from Jenna to let him know that she was back but the moment she was in his arms again none of that mattered, especially when she wrapped her arms around his middle in return. He could see that she had been crying and he knew that he would do whatever he could in order to make it better for her. “I can do that,” he said, a half smile tugging at the corner of his mouth as he kissed the top of her head gently. As she suggested that she tell him everything over coffee, Ric nodded. “The kids are out so I can make us some here unless you want to get some air,” he offered, not knowing which option Jenna would feel was the better one at the moment. Jenna felt a small smile form on her lips when Ric kissed the top of her head. The gesture comforting her in the best way possible."Okay." Jenna slowly pulled away from Ric, her hand moving up to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear in hopes of fixing up her appearance so it's less disheveled. "No, no!" Jenna frantically shook her head at the thought of going outside to get some fresh air, still feeling beyond paranoid.
"Let's just--- do it here." Jenna nodded her head, offering a quick and faint smile to Ric. With a sharp inhale, Jenna stepped inside Ric's place, her fingers tangled together almost like she was trying not to touch anything. She sat down on the couch, her gaze focused on her hands almost in disbelief, memories of her being able to just do something out of the ordinary rushing through her head. She really did that. She didn't want to put Alaric in danger by simply being in the same room as him, but she'd missed him and the thought of being away from him right now didn't sound good at all.

Ric didn’t know what was going on with Jenna but something was clearly bothering her and he was determined to get to the bottom of what that was. Jenna had been through so much over the last few years but she had managed to get through it and she had supported him through finding out that Isobel was Elena’s biological mother and finding out about Kyle and Abby so he knew that he owed it to her to be there for her now although if he was honest there wasn’t anywhere else that he would rather be. He loved her and whatever she was going through wasn’t just on her any longer, they would deal with it together and he knew that that was just as it should be. He couldn’t deny that he was surprised by Jenna’s reaction when he suggested that they go out and get coffee and get some fresh air at the same time and it was enough to make him even more concerned about what was going on with her but he knew that he just had to trust that she would tell him when she felt ready. “Alright, we’ll stay here,” he assured her, taking her hand in his and giving it a gentle squeeze. Normally Jenna held it together so well even when things weren’t going the way they should be so he knew that there had to be something serious going on in order for her to be struggling as much as she was right now and he would be lying if he said that that didn’t worry him. Leading the way into the apartment, he let go of her hand as he went to make the coffee before returning shortly after once it was done. Setting a mug down in front of Jenna, he sat down next to her and studied her carefully for a moment. “Now will you tell me what is going on with you?” he asked as he took a sip of his drink. Jenna sent Alaric a soft smile when he gave her hand a reassuring squeeze which only helped her feel calmer than before. She made her way inside Ric's apartment and took a seat on the couch, her hands rubbing her legs up and down without even noticing it, her gaze was focused solely in front of her before it drifted to Alaric. She felt grateful that he wasn't pressuring her into going out and she knew that would be so unlike him to do that. He always put her comfort first and for that, she loved him more.
Jenna reached for the mug and took a small sip just to calm herself a little bit. "I.." Jenna began, though she found it hard to express how crazy the past couple of days had been. "How about I show you?" Jenna had browsed the internet, hit countless books and when she came across a spell only witches can do, Jenna was surprised to see that she can do it. Jenna siphoned magic just by placing her hand on her necklace and with a mutter of the spell, she was able to move the chair a few steps back. "That's not normal, is it?" Jenna shouldn't be able to do that. She shouldn't. "I was going out like I told you I was going to do and before I knew it, these.. things came out of nowhere and they started injecting me with these things I don't know what they are, Ric. Next thing I know, I can do magic. Magic."

Ric didn’t know what it was that was bothering Jenna just yet but he was still glad that she had reached out to him. Not a day went by when he didn’t feel guilty about keeping her in the dark about the supernatural world but it was what Elena had wanted and he knew that he owed it to her to let her make the decisions when it came to her own family. His awakening to the supernatural world wasn’t a great one, his eyes had been opened to it when he had found Damon feeding on Isobel at the apartment the two of them had shared. He didn’t want that for Jenna and he knew that he would do whatever he could in order to keep that from happening. She had already been through so much over the last few years, much more than she should have been, and it had all made Jenna stronger so he knew that he just had to hope that whatever it was that was bothering her would do the same. Taking a sip of his drink, Ric hesitated for a moment as Jenna asked if she should show him what was going on. “Sure,” he said at last as he set his mug down in front of him. All he could do was watch as Jenna clasped the pendant he had seen her wearing so many times during the time they had known each other and the chair she was looking at moved backwards as if it had a mind of its own. For a moment his eyes darted back and forth between Jenna and the chair and he thought carefully about how he should answer before speaking. “You were never able to do anything like that before?” he asked even though he was pretty sure that he knew what the answer was going to be. He loved Jenna and with everything that he knew about the world they lived in he was certain that he would have known if the woman he loved was a witch. As she went on to tell him what had happened to her, his eyes widened even further. It didn’t fit the pattern considering that the rest of the people that were experimented on were taken for a week or more but he knew that it was too much of a coincidence to be anyone else. “The things that injected you – do you remember much about them?”JENNA SALTZMAN

Jenna twirled her necklace which had been around her neck for the longest time. She simply cannot see herself without it. It was the only thing she had left of her family and her sister. "Never." She answered right away without a hint of hesitance. "It's.. something new. I know that much." Jenna said with a small nod of her head before her hand left her necklace to gently tuck a strand of hair behind her ear.
Jenna paused at the question, trying her best to remember much that would offer at least some helpful piece of information, but she couldn't remember much about them. "No, Ric." Jenna shook her head gently, her eyes fixed on her lover. "It's all just a mess in my head right now. I'm not even sure what's real anymore." She let out a humorless chuckle before she reached for her mug to take a few sips.

Ric had been eagerly awaiting Jenna’s return but it had to be said that this wasn’t quite what he had expected. Still, she had stood by him when he had found out about the kids and also when he had found out about Isobel being Elena’s biological mother so he knew that he was going to do the same and stand by her now. He loved Jenna and no matter what was going on he knew that they would get through it together. It had taken him a long time to feel ready to move on after Isobel but Jenna had been so patient with him and he knew that the last thing he wanted to do was to mess it up. He had agreed to keep the supernatural world a secret from Jenna when Elena had pleaded with him to but now there was no way that he could hide it from her any longer. The way she clutched the necklace she had been wearing the whole time he had known her was enough to make Ric curious about the sudden change and his expression turned thoughtful for a moment. “Does it only happen when you touch your necklace?” he asked, not sure whether that was just an automatic reaction for Jenna to touch something dear to her or whether there was something else going on. As she said that she didn’t remember anything and that she wasn’t sure what was real any more, Ric took her free hand and gave it a gentle squeeze. “This is real, I’m real,” he assured her. “We’ll get to the bottom of this.” How they were going to do that he wasn’t sure but Jenna wasn’t the only person in Mystic Falls that something strange had happened to and he knew that it was about time that they got some answers. “I don’t know how this has happened but magic is real. There’s a lot that I should tell you.”JENNA SALTZMAN

Jenna's expression turned into a thoughtful one for a split second before she released her necklace. "We can try?" When she tried to do the spell again, nothing happened at all. "Huh." She touched her necklace again and to her surprise, the chair moved again. "I guess that tells us everything, right?" Jenna's necklace had magic in it this whole time and she had no idea? Damn.
Jenna looked at Ric, her expression softening as she turned her hand so she could hold Ric's, giving it a gentle squeeze of her own. "I know we will." She had no doubt about that. Magic is real? It's actually real? "Wow..." She breathed out, unsure how take that information in. "Haha, next thing I know, you're gonna tell me that vampires, werewolves and everything in between are real." She joked light-heartedly, though her smile soon fell and her eyes slowly shifted to Alaric. "They... are real too, aren't they?"

Ric had heard about strange things happening in Mystic Falls and he had looked into a few of them himself but it had never hit this close to home before. For a while Ric had found himself lulled into a false sense of security, everyone he cared about had been safe ever since the ritual and it had given him the chance to focus on other things for a while. It had been good having time to dedicate to Abby and Kyle and even though it was going to take a while for things to reach even some semblance of normality there he was more than prepared to put the work in. He wanted to have a good relationship with his kids and he would do what he had to in order to make that happen but he also knew that he loved Jenna and nothing was going to stop him from being there for her either. It might be selfish of him to want the best of both worlds but he hoped that he would be able to make it work. The fact that Jenna could suddenly do magic was a shock but it was something that he knew they would get to the bottom of. When Jenna tried to use magic without touching her necklace nothing happened and Ric nodded as she said that told them everything. “There is a very rare type of witch that can only use magic when siphoning it from another person or a magical item. It looks like your necklace has magic in it just like my ring,” he explained, subconsciously twisting the ring around his finger. “You’ve clutched your necklace before when we’ve been together and nothing like that has happened before though. It must all be connected to the people you saw,” he added. It made sense, there had been other reports that were a little different to what Jenna had told him but still led back to people being experimented on and it was the only thing that seemed to make any sense. As Jenna gave his hand a squeeze in return, Ric leaned down and kissed her gently. He didn’t know how any of this had happened but he knew that they would figure it out and one thing was for sure, he was going to stand by Jenna no matter what. As she spoke again he felt a half smile tug at the corner of his mouth. “Vampires, werewolves and a lot more besides, yeah. Some are also a lot closer than you might think,” he nodded. JENNA SALTZMAN

Jenna's gaze drifted down to Alaric's ring, watching him turn it around his digit in a subconscious manner. Jenna bit on her bottom lip for a brief moment, eyes fixed on the ring while her fingers toyed with the necklace around her neck. "That'd make a whole lotta sense, actually." Jenna nodded her head slowly. "Exactly. They must have done something to me in there." It made her shudder just thinking about her time there. It was no easy deed and she could still feel paranoia eating away at her insides, worried that they'd come back for her. That she was not meant to get away from them.
Jenna was more than happy to return the kiss with one of her own as she gently cupped Alaric's cheek, tracing it with her thumb. "Not freaky at all." Jenna said with a small chuckle following. "I want you to tell me everything, Ric. I can take it. At least I think I can. But if I can suddenly do magic, I also need to know about everything else."

Ric knew that there were different kinds of magical items out there, Isobel had given him the ring that protected him from dying at the hands of the supernatural and in time he knew that he would pass the ring on to Abby so that it would protect her as well. There were vampires in town that had daylight rings and all sorts of other items as well but he had never given too much thought to Jenna’s necklace. There didn’t seem to be anything unusual about it but he knew that looks could be deceiving so deep down he knew that he probably shouldn’t have been surprised that her family had a magical item of their own considering how long they had been living in Mystic Falls. “Do you mind if I take a look?” he asked as he gestured to the necklace. It had to have some kind of a purpose and he couldn’t deny that he was curious as to what that was. “Whatever they did to you we’ll figure it out,” he assured her. He wasn’t sure how they were going to do that considering there had been plenty of strange disappearances around Mystic Falls and those responsible still had yet to be discovered but now it was even more personal than it had become when Matt was taken and Ric knew that he wasn’t going to stop looking until he had the answers they needed. “You’re right, you do need to know,” he nodded as he covered the hand that Jenna had resting against his cheek with his own. “Where do you want me to start?”JENNA SALTZMAN

Jenna shook her head and slowly lifted her hand up to gather her hair on one side before she unclasped her necklace and handed it to Alaric. "Yeah. I know we will." Jenna nodded her head with a small smile on her lips. Her soft gaze remained Ric, her expression tender as she listened to him. She didn't have any doubt about Alaric helping her learn more about what had happened to her, but that doesn't mean she's exactly prepared to face those demons again. She was just beyond grateful she was out and no longer near those... things.
"I think the beginning is a good point to start." Was she prepared for what she was about to hear? Probably not, but then again, she needed to know. Everything about her life is going to be so, so different now and she can't remain in the shadows forever. She was thrown into this life and she's going to do her best to learn more about it.
