Ethan knew that MG wanted him to leave, that much was obvious, but Ethan knew that he couldn’t just abandon his best friend. It was true that Ethan didn’t really know what was going on, there was something in the house but he couldn’t see what it was and that in itself was enough to blow his mind but he’d read enough comics and watched enough movies to know that sometimes things weren’t always as they seemed. He had already seen that for himself in the way MG was perfectly fine after being stabbed, he had thought that there was something different about him especially after hearing rumours about how the students at the Salvatore School were different but MG was his best friend and he trusted him completely so he had never really worried too much about what was going on. As MG told whatever was doing this to take it out on him, Ethan shook his head. “MG, no! What are you doing?” he asked, wincing at the movement. He had been tossed aside like he was nothing and there was a pain in his side from where one of the broken legs of the table had gone through his side. He couldn’t move but he still felt like he had to do something and if that meant making sure that his best friend didn’t end up making himself a target then so be it. Looking around frantically as a voice came saying that it didn’t want MG, Ethan tried to pinpoint where the voice was coming from but he couldn’t see anything. The intruder’s words didn’t make sense, the guy said MG’s friends would just bring him back again and called him a monster. Suddenly the intruder was next to him and Ethan did his best to try and get away from the guy, pushing himself backwards in an attempt to get away from him. “He’s not a monster. You came into my house, stabbed my friend and now you’re going after me. You’re the monster,” Ethan spat. It was almost like MG knew the person or at least what was going on while Ethan still didn’t have a clue but he knew that nothing was going to change his opinion of his best friend. Soon enough he saw veins appear under MG’s eyes along with fangs and Ethan’s eyes widened in surprise. “MG?” he breathed. “What’s going on?” The intruder seemed determined to drive a wedge between the two of them and the sudden shift in things was enough to scare Ethan a little but he believed in MG and he knew that the guy wasn’t going to hurt him. The intruder, on the other hand, had a sick gleam in his eyes as he approached and Ethan tried to back away even more but his back hit the wall and he couldn’t go any further. Every movement hurt but he tried to get to his feet nonetheless. The intruder wasn’t going to let that happen, though, and Ethan let out a cry as the guy stamped on his leg and he heard the bone break. Ethan doubled over in pain and the guy bent over him, reaching forward and punching a hole straight through his stomach. MILTON GREASLEY

I know what it's like to think of yourself as a monster
MG turned his attention to Ethan and for a moment, his expression softened because Ethan must be feeling a lot of pain right now, especially after being tossed like that. He shook his head gently as if to tell Ethan not to worry about him before he turned his attention to the invisible creature, his eyes warily scanning his surroundings to see if he could spot anything or anyone anywhere but it was like they had both hallucinated that creature's existence and if it weren't for concrete evidence of its existence, MG would have been worried that they were both hit with a delusion spell or something just as wicked.
"Be quiet." The guy hissed through gritted teeth, the words directed more at Ethan and at the other talking to Ethan like that, MG took a warning step forward, his eyes narrowed. "Wanna re-think that, hm? Look at him." The guy jerked his chin toward MG's face which looked nowhere near human now. MG's attention shifted back to Ethan, his heart clenching in his chest at his question. MG didn't even know where to begin. There was so much going on and for someone who never even knew about the existence of the supernatural before today, he had no idea where to start, but it was a confusion they were going to have once Ethan was out of here safely. "Our savior's plan is not just to wipe you from existence. It's to break your spirit. It's a reminder that no matter what, you are the ones with the weakest link here. You are the ones with everything to lose, and I'm going to prove that to you." The guy cruelly said and then he began approaching Ethan, stomping on his leg so hard that MG's ears picked on the sound of the bone breaking under the relentless pressure. "No!" Even with his speed, he just wasn't fast enough and he came to a screeching halt when he saw the guy punch a hole through Ethan's stomach. "No, no!" MG cried out, blurring forward only for the other to push him far back, sending his back crashing against the wall, delaying MG from getting to Ethan in time to heal him using his vampire blood. “You can’t even save the ones that you care about. You really wanna tell me that you can save the world? Soon enough, you’ll realize that you’ve already lost.” MG scrambled to get himself up on his two feet and when he finally did, he blurred toward Ethan first because saving him was his top priority in that moment and soon enough, he was beside him, the intruder long gone by now.
“Oh my god.” MG whispered upon seeing the extent of his injuries. “No, no, no, hey. Stay with me, alright? I’m right here. I’ve got you. It’s not–” MG paused to choke on a sob. “It’s not even that bad. You're gonna be okay. I p–promise.” MG assured him, but he was sure his expression kind of already gave away the truth. He pressed his hand as hard as he could against the wound to halt the bleeding, but it was near impossible. He had to do something - fast. MG hesitated for a moment before he lifted his wrist to his mouth, biting down on the flesh hard until the skin broke under his pressure. “Here — E, drink this. It’ll – It’ll help you feel better, okay? Just trust me on this. Please. Stay with me. I can't lose you, E.” MG pressed his bleeding wrist against Ethan’s mouth to get his blood into his system, his eyes never leaving Ethan’s face as tears streamed down his face uncontrollably.

None of this made sense to Ethan right now, there was clearly someone in the house with them but he couldn’t see anyone and that bothered him. In the past things like this had been confined to the movies he watched and the comics he read but now it was happening and he had no idea what to make of it. The pain in his side was intense and he knew that he couldn’t pull the table leg out otherwise he would only end up bleeding out. Leaving it there was his best chance but it was difficult for him to move and he was quickly starting to realise that he should have listened to MG and gotten out of there when he’d had the chance. He hadn’t wanted to leave his best friend there to deal with this alone but right now he wasn’t sure just how much help he could be. Looking over at MG as the intruder asked if he wanted to rethink what he’d said, Ethan shook his head. “I’m not going to rethink anything. It doesn’t matter what he is, he’s still my best friend,” Ethan said, his tone confident as he spoke. He knew that he wasn’t going to let anyone make him feel differently, MG clearly wasn’t human but Ethan didn’t care about that. “It’s who a person is that matters, not what they are,” he added, knowing that he truly believed that. He had seen who MG was and that was what was important to Ethan, it was clear that MG had been keeping what he was a secret from him but Ethan understood why. Some might find it difficult to trust others with the truth but knowing MG something told him that the guy had kept him in the dark to try and protect him because that’s the kind of person that he was. “Don’t listen to him MG, you’re not the weak link,” Ethan assured him. He had felt pain before but the moment the intruder stood on his leg and the bone snapped it was like nothing that he had ever felt before. He could see black spots in front of his eyes as the pain threatened to make him pass out but before the darkness could overtake him there was a whole new kind of pain as the guy punched through his stomach and Ethan let out a scream of agony. “MG,” he breathed, lifting his hand weakly as if he could reach out to his friend as MG was thrown backwards again. “Get out of here,” he pleaded, not wanting his friend to get hurt anymore than he already was. Ethan already knew that it was too late for him but if MG got out of there safely then he knew that he could make his peace with that. Ethan’s breathing was already becoming shallow by the time MG made it to his side and a weak laugh escaped Ethan’s lips. “You’re such a bad liar,” he teased, bringing his hands up and letting them rest over MG’s as he tried to apply pressure to the wound. He knew that it wouldn’t do any good but he was grateful to his friend for trying. “It’s too late for me but it’s not for you. You need to go before he comes back,” he pleaded, hoping that MG would listen to him. It wasn’t long before something was being pressed to Ethan’s lips and he tasted something metallic on his tongue as it made its way down his throat. “I’m sorry MG, you know I’d stay if I could,” he breathed, a couple of tears rolling down his cheeks before he let out a cough. “Look after mom and Maya for me,” he said, his eyes fixed on MG’s for a moment before he let out his last breath and his head lolled to the side. I know what it's like to think of yourself as a monster
MG listened as Ethan defended him again and again. Ethan didn't know the full story, he didn't know what he was, but here he was, defending him so selflessly despite how scary it must have been for him to be revealed to the supernatural world so abruptly. MG wanted to tell him so many things, but with the presence of this guy, he can't find the time or the chance to tell him anything. He can't tell him just how sorry he was for keeping all of this a secret from him. MG didn't have a chance to do anything at all because suddenly everything shifted and slowed down as he watched their attacker fatally wound Ethan and just like that, despite his strength and speed, he was proven just how helpless he was when he couldn't even use any of those skills to protect his loved ones. MG reached for Ethan's hand despite the distance between them and it was that desperation to be there for Ethan that pushed MG to stand up and blur toward him. Their attacker could dangle himself in front of MG and he wouldn't pay him any mind because his priority right now was Ethan. The boy who just tried so adamantly to defend him and remind him that he wasn't a monster.
"I'm - I'm not." MG feebly argued, shaking his head despite knowing that there was no use in trying. "No. No, I'm not going anywhere. He's not... He's not going to come back." He had already proved his point to MG. He was never his target, Ethan was. "You have to try, okay? For me. You still owe me a match. I was gonna kick your ass and finally win." MG said with a trembling smile on his lips as he pressed his hand against Ethan's wound, hoping it would kickstart the healing process before it was too late.
"What? No, E. You're gonna look after them. You're gonna be there for them. They need you. S-So do I, man. You're my best friend, and I need you. I have so many things I still wanna say to you. Now's not the right time, but, I have to tell you, I have to. I li-" MG came to a screeching halt when he realized that Ethan was already long gone.
MG froze as he shook Ethan gently in his arms before he lowered his head, hiding his face as he sobbed despite knowing that he wasn't gone forever. He allowed himself to cry as he held onto Ethan as tightly as possible. There was a reason he hesitated before giving Ethan any of his blood and it was because he knew that Ethan never asked to be a vampire and by giving him his blood, he'd be taking away his choice. But, it was unfair for Ethan to die like this. He still had his whole life ahead of him and he'd much rather have Ethan as a vampire than dead.
MG eventually stopped crying long enough to remember that Ethan's mom and sister were about to come home. MG carried Ethan to the couch where he laid him down while he cleaned up, wiping away any evidence of any fight taking place before he left a note for Ethan's mom to let her know that he was spending the night at MG's place. He just hoped that his handwriting was similar to Ethan's and his note wouldn't spark any suspicions.
He's going to have to take Ethan somewhere safe since he was going to awaken as a vampire in transition and he can't risk anything bad happening to him. So, after he was done, MG took Ethan out to his car, carefully putting him down before he rounded the car to get in. He drove to the Boarding House since he knew that was the closest and safest place to be. Everyone in that house was more than capable of protecting themselves if anything did happen.
MG carried Ethan to his bedroom where he gently laid him down on his bed before he moved to sit down, knowing that he needed to be there when Ethan wakes up. He took hold of Ethan's hand in his own and for the first time in a long time, there wasn't a familiar smile or an inviting expression on his face. He was sad, unspeakably so. All he could do was stay there and wait for Ethan to wake up. He was willing to sit there for however long it took and he knew that transitioning took a while but he had all the time in the world and he wasn't going to leave Ethan alone. Not in a vulnerable moment like this.

Ethan was quickly starting to realise that there was a lot about MG that he didn’t know. He had always wondered if there was a reason why they always ended up hanging out at his place rather than MG’s but then again Ethan’s house was empty most of the time when his mom was at work and Maya was out so it was definitely easier. It had never really bothered him at all because all he had wanted was to hang out with his friend so it had never mattered where they did that. Now seeing the veins underneath MG’s eyes like that and the way he suddenly had fangs was enough to tell him that there was more to MG that he had ever thought possible but Ethan was certain that it was never going to change how he felt about MG. They were friends and there were times when Ethan wondered if perhaps they could be more than that but just thinking about that was scary so he always ignored it and tried to distract himself with something different entirely. Now all he could do was reach out for his friend because with everything that was going on right now he wanted MG to be there with him, not on the opposite side of the room. MG had been there for him when he had needed someone before and he knew that he needed MG now more than ever. “Yeah, you really are,” he chuckled before wincing as the movement hurt. “You don’t know that. I don’t want you getting hurt,” Ethan said gently, knowing he would never forgive himself if something happened to MG. “He was wrong, you know. You’re not a monster, you’re the best person I’ve ever known,” he added, needing MG to know that. “Don’t let him get inside your head.” The intruder had seemed to want to blame MG for everything but Ethan knew that he was never going to do that, he knew that MG was a good person and no one was going to convince him otherwise. “I’m trying,” Ethan nodded even though he could already feel that his strength was fading. He hated how sad MG looked right now and Ethan wanted nothing more than to tell him that everything was going to be alright but he knew that would be a lie and he couldn’t do that to MG. “It doesn’t hurt anymore,” he breathed instead. He knew deep down that that wasn’t a bad thing, his whole body felt numb but he knew that he would rather that than the pain he had felt before. Ethan knew that he wasn’t going to make it and it was written all over MG’s face that he knew it too. Ethan hated that he was going to be leaving his mom and sister behind but he knew that if there was one person he could trust to look after them then it was MG. He knew that his mom and Maya were capable of looking after themselves but Ethan had had a glimpse of a whole other world he hadn’t known existed that day and he knew that he didn’t want them getting hurt. He was vaguely aware of the fact that MG was saying something else but his voice sounded so far away before it eventually faded completely and then there was nothing but darkness. For a long time there was no movement from Ethan but slowly but surely his body started to heal, MG’s blood repairing what was broken before. Hours later there was a sharp intake of breath and Ethan’s eyes opened. For a moment he was disoriented, he didn’t recognise the room he was in but he was aware of someone holding his hand and he looked over to find MG sitting next to him. “MG?” he asked, his voice hoarse as he spoke. “What’s going on? Where are we?” he asked. None of this made sense, he was certain that he had died but here MG was and he looked so sad that it was enough to make Ethan’s heart ache. “Are you okay?” he asked, his voice full of concern as he looked over at his friend. I know what it's like to think of yourself as a monster
MG just couldn't lie and pretend like Ethan was okay, he was certain that his face gave it away and even Ethan called him out on it. Try as he might to figure out something to say to hide the truth, he just couldn't. He couldn't do anything other than press his hands against Ethan's wound in a feeble attempt to the bleeding down as much as he could. MG shook his head stubbornly because nothing could ever convince him to leave Ethan, especially like this. The world outside could erupt in flames and he would spend those last couple of minutes with Ethan. He just couldn't leave him. MG's eyes slowly moved up to look at Ethan and every word he said sounded like goodbye and it broke his heart even more. "Y—You don't know that, E. There's still so much I haven't told you yet." MG spoke, his voice breaking as he spoke. MG shook his head slowly at Ethan's words, he wasn't bothered by the guy's words — what bothered him was the fact that he couldn't do a task as simple as protecting his best friend. MG's eyes widened when Ethan told him that it doesn't hurt anymore. It was a clear sign that Ethan was catching his very last breaths and through teary eyes, he saw Ethan die.
Try as he might to stop crying, it didn't happen until a few hours later when he remembered that Ethan didn't live alone, so he took care of that matter and got back to the Boarding House so he could have Ethan with him, somewhere safe and away from any temptations since he'd be a newly turned vampire and he can't risk anything. MG had to part from Ethan so that he could get the blood bag so that Ethan could complete his transition.
MG didn't leave him again after that. He still held onto Ethan's hand and he stayed like that for the next couple of hours until Ethan woke up. MG straightened up when he finally woke up. "It's okay, E. You're in my room." MG revealed with a quick nod of his head. He never took Ethan to the Boarding House and it wasn't because he didn't trust them or anything like that, he just knew it would be safer for everyone to keep Ethan unaware of the supernatural world because in a town like Mystic Falls, that bliss might give him some peace of mind.
MG offered him a slight smile at his question before nodding his head. "You probably have a lot of questions right now. Um..." MG finally let go of Ethan's hand and stood up from his seat, his hands pressed together for a moment. "I guess there's no easy way to say this, so I'll just say it." MG licked his bottom lip, his expression still a bit too serious. An unusual expression for someone like MG. "You died tonight, E." MG explained, his eyes on his friend. "The blood that I gave you, my blood, it turned you into a vampire. Like me." MG said in a soft voice, his eyes still fixed solely on Ethan. "Right now, you're in transition. In order to complete this transition and actually become a vampire, you have to drink blood." MG produced the blood bag and let it rest on the bed.
"But, um... I do also have to let you know that you don't have to complete the transition, if you don't want to. Being a vampire, it's a real challenge, E. It's not easy. Maybe on the outside it looks like I have it easy, but I struggle too. A — A lot." MG looked away for a moment to gather his thoughts before he looked back at Ethan.
"You can't walk in the sun without a ring. You'll always feel tempted to drink human blood and you might even lose control if you see blood at first, until you learn how to control your urges and sometimes even if you do, you'll still have those moments. There's a school and a college too, that you can go to, to help you with those urges and to help you how to control your powers and not let it control you instead. It's where I go." MG explained, knowing that it's important to mention that, too. "You'll live, for an eternity. You'll be immortal. You'll be strong, stronger than ever. Faster than ever, too. There are good parts to being a vampire, like, um, using your blood to cure wounds. That's what I tried to do, but your wound was too severe and I — I was already too late. There's also compulsion, which is a bit like mind control, except it's a vampire ability." MG rubbed his hands together before he looked down with a small frown, the blood bag now in his hands.
"I know I took away your choice when I gave you my blood, but... Now I'm giving it back to you. If you drink this blood, you will become a vampire. But, if you don't, you will die. This time, if you w—want, it can be permanent. I just— I just wanted you to know that there's a choice. Of course I want you to drink the blood, I want you to live, but it'd be too selfish of me to force that on you especially because I can't bear the thought of you hating me if you struggle to get used to being a vampire. The choice, this time, is yours, E. I'm really sorry that there isn't another option. I really, really am."

Ethan knew that this shouldn’t be happening, his life shouldn’t be ending at the age of nineteen but it was and there wasn’t anything that he could do about it. He didn’t blame MG for what was happening, the guy had only ever been his friend and whoever the intruder was had a vendetta that Ethan would never understand. It didn’t sound like it was personal against MG, though, it sounded like there was something going on and if it wasn’t Ethan going through this then it would be someone else. He didn’t want to die but the truth was he was glad that it was him at home and not his mom or Maya. Ever since his dad died it had just been the three of them and he knew that it would hurt them to lose him too but Ethan knew that he didn’t want anything to happen to either of them. MG had tried to reassure him that his wounds weren’t that bad but Ethan knew the truth even if MG didn’t want to say it. He could feel his strength fading fast and he offered MG a weak smile as he said that there was still so much he hadn’t told him yet. “Maybe in another lifetime,” he said gently, knowing that considering MG wasn’t human and the intruder wasn’t either then perhaps just about anything was possible. “I’m lucky to have had you as my friend,” he breathed. MG really was the best person that Ethan had ever known and Ethan was glad that he’d had the chance to get to know him. He didn’t want to leave his family or MG behind, not when there was still so much that he hadn’t done and so much that he needed to figure out, but the decision was out of his hands and he slipped away in MG’s arms, comforted by the fact that he was at least with someone he cared about. Time lost all meaning for Ethan after that but by the time he woke up he was somewhere else. It was a place that he didn’t recognise and that was enough to put him on edge but as he realised that MG was there he visibly relaxed, knowing that it couldn’t be that bad if MG was there. None of it made sense though, Ethan knew that he had died and he had never thought too much about what would come after that but this wasn’t what he had expected. He could feel MG’s hand holding his own, though, he felt real and that was enough to have a confused expression form on Ethan’s face until MG said it was okay and that he was in his room. “In your room? How is that possible?” he asked, looking around them for a moment before turning back to look at his friend. “This isn’t all in my head or something, is it?” he asked. He hadn’t seen MG’s room before but then again he knew that this could just be how he imagined it so at this point he wasn’t going to rule anything out. “You’re right about that,” Ethan admitted as MG said he probably had a lot of questions right now. Truth be told he didn’t even know where to start so he was relieved when MG said that he was just going to say it. Ethan could already feel a bad feeling building in the pit of his stomach and as MG said that he’d died tonight, Ethan’s eyes went wide. “I knew it,” he breathed. He was about to ask how he was here now when MG dropped another bombshell on him and Ethan studied him carefully for a moment. “You’re a vampire?” he asked, needing to say those words out loud. It didn’t make much sense to him, MG was able to walk around during the day and sure there had been a few odd things that had happened like the way MG had suddenly pulled away from him without any warning but Ethan had never thought that the reason could be something like this. The fact that MG had said that his blood had turned Ethan into a vampire like him hadn’t really sunk in straight away but as MG continued speaking, Ethan nodded. “You do make it look pretty easy, I had no idea,” he admitted. All he could do was listen as MG continued explaining about what being a vampire was like. Some of it Ethan already knew from the movies he’d seen and comics he’d read but the daylight ring and compulsion were definitely new to him. Honestly right now it all felt like nothing more than a bad dream but he could see from the look on MG’s face that he was being completely serious with him and that was enough to make Ethan realise that every word he was saying was true. “So either I drink from that and I’m confined to darkness for the rest of my life or I die?” he asked as he looked at the blood bag in MG’s hands. MG had a ring that let him walk around during the day but that was something completely new to Ethan so he wasn’t sure if there were others who had something similar or whether MG was the only one. “What about my family, can I still be a part of their lives?” he added. He wasn’t really sure how that would work since he would become immortal while they remained the same but he knew that he couldn’t just abandon them, not when they had already lost his dad. He already knew deep down what his decision was going to be but he needed to make sure first. “Wait, is this why you don’t see your parents anymore?” he asked, the pieces suddenly falling into place from what MG had told him before. “None of this is your fault, MG. You were trying to help me,” Ethan said as he gave MG’s hand a gentle squeeze. “And for the record, I could never hate you.”MILTON GREASLEY

I know what it's like to think of yourself as a monster
MG never thought the day would come where he would say goodbye to Ethan so soon like this. MG knew that goodbyes were inevitable, especially for a vampire who was surrounded by others who were mortal. He knew it would happen sooner or later but he never thought it would be this cruel. Even then, he knew the goodbye that just spilled from Ethan's mouth wasn't permanent. MG wasn't just trying to stop the bleeding to prevent Ethan from dying, but he was doing it to prevent Ethan from becoming a vampire but it really did seem like he had no way in the matter. Try as he might to keep Ethan human, it was just impossible. Now, the other had just passed with his blood still pumping through his veins and MG knew what that meant a little too well.
MG couldn't help but grief over all the things that Ethan could have done if he stayed human. Couldn't help but grief over the fact that Ethan was going to stay the same while his sister and mom aged normally. MG grieved over the fact that Ethan's life was never going to be the same again after tonight.
So much was going to change for him if Ethan did choose to complete his transition and MG knew that he was going to try his best to be there for him through it all.
"I took you here, while you were unconscious." MG shook his head gently at Ethan's question. It was unfortunately not a dream. It wasn't in Ethan's head. It was all real. He took it upon himself to tell Ethan everything and when Ethan asked if he was a vampire, he nodded his head in confirmation. "I am." MG revealed, his expression a little softer as he spoke. He knew that he always gave off the impression of someone who was cheerful or someone who looked like he had his shit together but MG struggled a lot with his vampire abilities and being a ripper just never made it any easy for him. It took a lot of effort from him to stay in control, and an even bigger effort to look like he had it all under control on the surface.
It was eerie just how that question reminded him of himself. He was certain he'd asked Stefan a similar question back then, too. "Yes... I know both options suck. I'm sorry." MG wished he had another choice to offer him, but he didn't. "You can. After you've got your thirst under control, you can spend time with them. We'd never keep you away from them. You just need to have control first so you don't end up hurting them without meaning to." MG nodded his head a few times. MG's expression turned into something a little pained at Ethan's question before he nodded his head, confirming Ethan's suspicions about him and his family. "It is. My mom made it pretty clear I'm not welcomed home anymore. So did my dad after he disowned me." MG didn't know that the man thought he was dead and that it was all a lie crafted carefully by his mother to keep him out of the house - and out of their lives.
MG's eyes widened slightly at Ethan's words before he looked away, gently shaking his head. "All of this happened because of me, Ethan. If you didn't know me, you wouldn't be a vampire in transition right now. They came after you because you're my weakness." MG shook his head again, his heart resting heavily in his chest. "Whatever choice you decide to make, I'll stand by you. If you decide to become a vampire, then I'll help. I'll be there every step of the way until you're in control. I won't leave you. I promise."

Ethan had learned just how much goodbyes sucked when he’d had to say goodbye to his dad and again when he’d left his friends behind and moved to Mystic Falls. He knew that the move was the right thing for all of them and even now he didn’t regret it. Waking up in an unfamiliar place was confusing to say the least but MG was there and that alone was enough to make Ethan feel a little better. He was still disoriented and none of it made sense considering he was certain that he had died before being brought here but he knew that MG would fill him in and Ethan trusted him completely. “That makes sense,” he nodded as MG said he brought him here while he was unconscious. “Do my mom and Maya know what happened?” he asked. He didn’t even want to think about how devastated that would be if they knew what had happened but he knew that he had to ask. He couldn’t deny that he was surprised when MG revealed that he was a vampire, Ethan never would have suspected if MG hadn’t told him but now he was confirming it and Ethan found himself nodding once more. He knew that it would take him time to get his head around the fact that his best friend was a vampire but from what MG had said Ethan’s only choices now were to become a vampire himself or die and he already knew which one he was leaning towards. “It’s okay, I wouldn’t have a choice at all if not for you,” Ethan assured him. If MG hadn’t done what he had done then Ethan would have died and that would have been it. At least now he had a choice and that was more than most people got to have. “That’s good, I could never just abandon them,” Ethan admitted. The three of them were all each other had and he knew that he couldn’t just leave them behind. If he completed the transition then he knew that he would probably have to do that at some point unless he was able to tell them and they accepted him for what he was but he knew that he wasn’t ready yet, that was for sure. Seeing the way MG’s expression became pained, Ethan instantly felt bad. “I’m so sorry, you don’t deserve that,” he said gently. Ethan would be lying if he said he wasn’t worried that his mom and Maya might end up doing the same to him but he knew he just had to hope that they would react differently. As MG said that all of this happened because of him, Ethan studied his friend carefully for a moment. “I’m proud to be your weakness,” he said at last. “I meant what I said before MG, you’re the best person I’ve ever known and I’m lucky to have you in my life. I won’t pretend to know what all of that back at home was about but I wouldn’t give up knowing you for anything,” Ethan assured him. MG had helped him so much more than he realised and Ethan knew that he wouldn’t want to be without him. It had sucked when MG had pulled away from him but he’d known that he’d just had to trust that sooner or later things would get back to normal for them. Now everything had changed but Ethan still had his friend and he was beyond glad about that. “You’d better be there even when I’m in control, it hasn’t been the same without you,” he admitted. “There’s so much I still want to do and I can’t leave mom or Maya or you so life as a vampire is better than no life at all,” he added as his gaze fell to the blood bag in MG’s hands and he held his hand out to his friend for it. I know what it's like to think of yourself as a monster
MG shook his head slowly at Ethan's question. "I cleaned up in time and left them a note to tell them that you're spending time with me here. It'll buy us some time." He will have to figure out another excuse to tell Ethan's parents since he didn't want to compel them. "You can talk to them on the phone, if you'd like." MG added a moment later, wanting Ethan to know that he wasn't being held hostage or forced to be here without ever talking to his family.
MG gnawed on his bottom lip for a moment before he slowly nodded his head. Ethan had a point there. If it hadn't been for him giving Ethan his blood in time... He wouldn't be talking to Ethan right now. Maybe he should look at this from a little more of an optimistic point of view, but MG still couldn't help but feel that his heart was heavy. Heavier than it's been in a long, long time. "I know." MG offered with a small smile on his lips when Ethan said that he could never just abandon his family. It made perfect sense, that's why he wanted to try his hardest to get Ethan's hunger under control as soon as possible so that Ethan could return to his family and be with them without having to worry about losing control. "It's okay." MG shook his head. He used to get homesick a lot in the past, but now, it was a lot more manageable.
MG was quiet as he listened to Ethan, his eyes fixed on his friend as he talked. His expression shifted into something a little softer as he continued listening. "Thank you, E. You have no idea how much that means to me." MG couldn't deny that he'd been anxious the entire time because he just had no idea how Ethan would react to becoming a vampire. The mere thought of Ethan resenting him scared him to his core, but it seemed as though it was just that. Fear. It was nowhere near reality and it made MG's shoulders sink in relief. "Same here. I wouldn't give up knowing you for anything." MG admitted in a soft voice with a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips.
"Of course. I'll always be here, E." MG offered back. MG waited with bated breath as Ethan thought it over and when he made up his mind, MG couldn't help but quietly let out a sigh of relief. It was really good to hear that Ethan had made up his mind about what he wanted to do. "Okay. As long as you're sure this is what you want." MG held out the blood bag for Ethan to take, waiting for him to take it. "Now that you're a vampire, I can tell you everything that I kept from you. Including what that attack was about." MG said with a nod of his head following. His attention moved to the window shutters to make sure they were drawn shut since it won't long before the sun comes up and without the ring, he doesn't want to risk Ethan getting burned by the sun.
"But first, we need to solve the ring problem. You're gonna need something like this..." MG held up his hand, showing the ring that he had on. "To protect you from sunlight. With it on, you can walk out in broad daylight without any issues. I'll just need a witch for this part." MG thought about who to call right now and in the end, he decided to go for Josie. "I'll call one of my close friends, her name is Josie. She's a witch, a siphoner to be exact, and a vampire. It's a mixture that I'm gonna tell you all 'bout in our long overdue talk about the supernatural, don't worry." MG assured him with a quick nod of his head following before he drew out his phone so that he could give Josie a call, explaining the situation to her before asking her to come as soon as possible. Once the phone call was done, MG placed his phone back inside his pocket and turned his attention to Ethan. "In the meantime, is there anything you wanna know or talk about? We've got some time for ourselves."

“Thank you, it would have destroyed them if they’d seen it,” Ethan admitted. Their house was meant to be safe but in the end it was where Ethan had died and if he was honest as much as he loved his family he was glad that he didn’t have to go back there straight away. He knew that at some point he would but for now at least he could have some space and he was pretty sure that was just what he needed. “That would be good. They’ll be fine knowing I’m with you but it would still be nice to hear their voices,” he nodded. Ethan wasn’t quite sure he had really processed the fact that he had died yet but in time he would and until then he would just keep on doing the best he could. It was true that Ethan didn’t know the details of what had caused his death yet but one thing he knew for sure was that he wouldn’t still be here if MG hadn’t tried to save him, he would have died and he never would have had the chance to make this decision. Becoming a vampire wasn’t something that he had ever thought would happen to him and he wouldn’t have thought that it would even if he had known that they were real before today but it was a chance to live and Ethan was already pretty sure he knew what his answer was going to be. “No, it’s not. I don’t know what you were like before but the person you are now is someone they should be proud of,” Ethan offered. MG was an incredible person and Ethan hoped that they would see that one day too. “Do your family here know that you’re a vampire?” he asked, unable to deny that he was curious. He didn’t know much about the supernatural world yet and he knew that he wanted to learn as much as he could. “You don’t need to thank me, it’s the truth,” Ethan assured him. He’d had best friends in the past but he had never known a friendship like this before. It was like they connected on a whole other level and that was something that Ethan knew that he wouldn’t give up for anything in the world. MG meant so much to him, more than he could probably even put into words, and Ethan knew that he would never blame MG for any of this. The guy had done so much for him and Ethan knew that he would figure all of this out somehow so he wasn’t too worried. “I’ll hold you to that,” Ethan nodded as MG said he would always be there. The decision to become a vampire wasn’t one that Ethan made lightly, he still didn’t know much about them that wasn’t fiction but the alternative was dying again so as far as he was concerned it was a pretty easy decision to make. “I’m sure. I know this won’t be easy but it’s better than the alternative,” he admitted as he took the blood bag from MG. Opening it, Ethan had thought that the smell would put him off but the truth was he felt like he wanted it so after only hesitating for a few moments he lifted the blood bag to his lips and drank from it. He could feel his fangs emerge and he could also feel a change in his face but he wasn’t sure what it was. “This is crazy,” he admitted, running his tongue over his new fangs before continuing to drink. It was only when he had finished that he stopped and set the bag down beside him and he felt a smile touch his lips as MG said he could tell him everything now. “That would be good, I’m ready,” he nodded. Looking at MG’s ring, Ethan’s eyes widened in surprise. “You mean I can have one too? I thought yours was the only one,” he admitted. He had never heard of anything like them before but then again the only vampires Ethan knew about were the ones from books and movies. He didn’t know what they were really like and it was clear that he had a lot to learn. “Wait, witches are real too?” he asked, unable to deny that he was surprised. It pretty much blew Ethan’s mind when MG said that his friend Josie was both a witch and a vampire, he had no idea what a siphoner was but it sounded pretty cool anyway. “I’ve got a lot to learn, haven’t I?” he chuckled. All he could do was wait as MG called his friend and he thought about it when MG asked if there was anything he wanted to talk about while they waited. “I guess it would be good to know what legends about vampires are true and which are fiction,” he said at last, knowing that was probably the best place to start. “You’re so good at this, I had no idea you were a vampire,” he added. “Are there many in Mystic Falls?”MILTON GREASLEY

I know what it's like to think of yourself as a monster
MG nodded his head in agreement because he understood what Ethan meant by that. Coming back to find blood everywhere, your furniture trashed, and your house looking like a tornado just passed by it would raise all sorts of alarm bells and also questions, and MG wanted to try his best to keep the questions to a minimum, so he organized the house to the best of his abilities and made sure to assure Ethan's mom and sister that Ethan was with him so they wouldn't worry about Ethan's whereabouts since MG imagined it might take some time for him to be able to safely send Ethan home because he knew what the guilt of hurting someone felt like and he had no doubt that the pain and the guilt would break Ethan if he were to hurt his family without meaning to. "Okay, yeah. Tell me when you wanna talk to them and I'll make it happen." MG wanted Ethan to know that he wasn't a hostage and that the option to reach out to his family was present at the table and it always will be.
MG's lips stretched into a small smile at Ethan's words. "It's okay, really. I prefer it this way, if I'm being honest. It just goes to show that family doesn't always have to be the one that you're born in, but the one that you make along the way. They're my parents and I will always love them. But maybe I'm just destined to do it from afar instead. That our paths is just never meant to cross again because I can't change what I am and they can't change their black and white view of the world. I'm happy with the family I have now. That's why until you've got your powers under control, I'll be your family, E." MG said with a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips, meaning every word. “Yeah, they do. In fact, they’re all vampires. Except for Bonnie, Stefan’s girlfriend, she’s a witch. Stefan is the one who pretty much rescued me and took me here to Mystic Falls to get my powers under control.” MG said, his voice was a lot softer now as he spoke about his family.
MG’s lips formed a soft smile at Ethan’s words when he assured him that he doesn’t need to thank him. “Still, I really appreciate it.” Hearing that definitely lifted his spirits up a little bit, but he was aware that they weren’t out in the clear just yet. They still have a long and bumpy road ahead of them if Ethan chose to complete his transition — and selfishly, MG couldn’t help but wish for that to be Ethan’s decision. MG thought back to the fact that he had almost confessed his feelings to Ethan and now the thought sets his nerves alight. MG nodded his head when Ethan told him that he will hold him to it which showcased that he was more than willing to keep his promise and not break it. “Whatever happens, I’ll be right there, E. I’ll help in any way that I can.” MG promised with a quick nod of his head following, wanting Ethan to know that he wasn’t going to just leave him without any help. He was going to try his best to help Ethan every step of the way just like how Stefan and the Salvatore School/College helped him. He watched as Ethan fed from the blood bag, his eyes taking in how his fangs came out as he fed. MG’s expression softened at his reaction before he nodded his head. “It is.” It was definitely crazy and shouldn’t even be possible, but here he was. MG felt like he could breathe in some fresh air when Ethan completed his transition without any relapse or anything going wrong which was definitely a good thing.
“Oh, no, no, you can have one too. That way, you can live your life as close to normal as possible.” MG said with a quick nod of his head following as he settled down on the edge of the bed, turning his body to be able to look at Ethan better. He let out a soft chuckle at Ethan’s question about witches. “Yup, and so many other species.” MG couldn’t help but not in agreement with Ethan at his other question before he shook his head with a smile tugging at his lips. “Yeah, it’s a lot. But, it’s okay, we’ll just take baby steps.” MG promised with a quick nod of his head following. “And the best part is that our college has introduction books into a lot of the species, for the beginners. So I imagine that would help a lot.” MG added a moment later, his hands resting on his lap as he kept his attention on Ethan.
“Oh, I’d say that’s a good starting point.” MG agreed before he paused at Ethan’s next words, his lips stretching into a small smile. “I wanted to tell you so many times, but you understand why I couldn’t, right?” MG’s eyes searched Ethan’s as he spoke, his eyes fixed on him. “Hm, I’d say yeah, there are many vampires in Mystic Falls. Most of them blend right in, those are the ones that don’t wanna cause any trouble, while others attack other innocent people but the papers here labels them as animal attacks.” MG explained as he adjusted his position on the bed. “But it’s those very same “animal attacks” that actually brought quite a lot of hunters into Mystic Falls, that’s why it’s very important for you to stay low, okay?” MG nearly implored, wanting Ethan to know just how serious it was.
“Okay, uh, now I guess it’s time for a little bit of a vamp 101. Just, uh, pretend to be surprised when you learn ‘bout this in Salvatore College, if you decide to transfer.” MG joked light-heartedly before he started telling Ethan about vampires and what sets them apart from the fictional kind that they read about or see in movies. “For example, unlike the movies where they just waltz in, we actually can’t enter someone’s house without an invitation. Someone who’s living, to be exact. Oh, and we have Original Vampires, I think their names are dead giveaway, no pun intended, that they are basically the original vampires that started all of this. I guess most comic books or movies don’t have that. They actually live in Mystic Falls too, and one of them actually teaches at the school.” MG explained, trying to think of what else sets them apart from fictional vampires. “Oh, I guess the part ‘bout humanity switch also sets us apart from fiction. We’ve got a “switch” that we can flip off and when it’s flipped off, you basically shut off your humanity, but from what I understand, that happens when you experience something really traumatic. I haven’t met a vampire who shut it off for no reason yet, but it could be possible… I don’t know, actually.” And from there, MG continued telling Ethan all about vampires and what sets them apart and even though he talked a lot, he just wanted keep Ethan in the loop and involved. “I know it’s a lot to take in. The weirdest part is that I don’t even think I’ve scratched the surface, so we can take it easy. If you have any questions, I’m all ears.”

Ethan knew that he was always going to worry about his mom and sister, after all it was just the three of them now that his dad was gone, and the thought of them returning home to find the evidence of what had happened had terrified him. Fortunately MG had taken care of it, though, and he really was grateful to his friend for that. Ethan knew that he could never walk away from them, he knew that he just had to hope that they would understand and still love him regardless. "I will, thanks. I think I need some time to get used to all this first though," he admitted. He knew that he couldn't tell them what had happened to him, not now at least, but he did want to talk to them once he had managed to pull himself together and was sure that he wouldn't let anything slip without meaning to. Ethan knew that he wanted to preserve his relationship with his family but after learning about what had happened for MG and his was enough to make Ethan feel bad for him. "You've been my family since you walked into the store that first day, MG," Ethan assured him. They had hit it off instantly and MG had become his best friend right away. They were never going to stop being family, he was certain of that. "What you are doesn't define who you are, I'm sorry they can't see that," he added gently. "I am glad you've found a family here that sees you for who you are though," he added. As MG said his family were all vampires other than one who was a witch, Ethan let out a low whistle. "That's pretty cool. I'll have to thank Stefan for looking after you when I meet him." He already knew how much they all meant to MG so he couldn't deny that he was excited to finally meet them. Deep down Ethan had known what his choice was going to be ever since MG gave him his options. Living as a vampire might not be ideal but it was still much better than dying so young and Ethan knew that he wanted to have a chance to live his life the way he wanted to. "Thanks, I appreciate that," he admitted as MG said he would help in any way he could. He didn't blame MG for what had happened to him in fact he was grateful to MG for giving him the choice and also for standing by him now. He had thought the blood would be disgusting but it wasn't, the moment he tasted it on his tongue he knew that he wanted it and it wasn't long before the blood bag was completely empty. "That would be incredible," Ethan admitted as MG said he would have his own daylight ring so he could live a life as close to normal as possible. "That way I won't have to quit my job or explain to my mom why I suddenly can't leave the house during the day." That would have drawn attention to him far too quickly and he knew that he didn't want that. As MG said that there were a lot of other species, Ethan nodded. "I can't wait to learn about them all," he nodded. He knew that he had a lot to learn but it really was exciting to finally have the chance to learn about it all. "That's probably a good idea," he agreed as MG said they would take baby steps. "It definitely will. Do you think I'd be able to transfer?" he asked, not too sure how that side of things worked. He had friends at Whitmore but in all honesty Ethan knew it would be better for him to be surrounded by others like him just in case he slipped up somehow. "Oh, definitely. Don't worry, I don't blame you for keeping it from me," Ethan assured him. "Do you think I'd be able to tell my mom and Maya when I have it under control?" he asked, not sure whether that was the normal thing or whether everyone kept it to themselves. "Hunters are a thing too?" he asked before nodding. "Lay low, got it," he confirmed. He knew that he didn't want to draw any unwanted attention to himself or to the people he cared about. As MG explained about vampires, Ethan listened intently. "I'm not sure why anyone would want to shut their humanity off but the rest actually sounds pretty cool. I can't believe there are original vampires that started it all, how old are they?" he asked, unable to deny that he was curious. One thing that might pose a little difficult was getting his mom or Maya to invite him in but he knew that he would have to figure something out for that. "Do other species have originals too or did they come into being differently?" he asked, wanting to learn as much as he could. "And I get it if you don't want to tell me but how did you become a vampire? Have you been one long?" he added, wanting to get to know this side of MG's life a little better. MILTON GREASLEY

I know what it's like to think of yourself as a monster
MG nodded his head in an understanding manner when Ethan said that he will need some time first. "Take all the time you need." MG assured him with a quick nod of his head following. He understood what it felt like, so he will give Ethan as much time as he needed to process everything. His expression softened when Ethan made it clear that he'd been his family since the day that he walked into the store. "I'm very honored, E." MG said with a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips, feeling a little bit of weight get lifted off his shoulders which definitely felt good, all things considered. "You're right, it doesn't. It sucks, but... The best thing that came out of this whole ordeal was meeting Stefan which led me to Mystic Falls, which led me to meeting you. So I guess it all worked out in the end." MG said with a small smile resting on his lips as he spoke.
"Yeah, it's got me feeling very lucky." MG agreed with a quick nod of his head following. He always felt right at home here. It was like a second family, one that he planned to cherish and love for many, many years to come. MG chuckled when Ethan said that he's going to have to thank Stefan when he meets him. He's pretty sure that he'd talked Stefan's ear off about Ethan, so he had a feeling that Stefan will be able to determine who Ethan was after looking at him. "I'm pretty sure that you both will get along very well. He already knows about you." MG said, his voice was soft as he spoke.
"You don't need to thank me." MG said with a quick shake of his head following. He meant every word. He will help Ethan in every way he possibly can, no matter what it takes. "Okay, perfect. My friend Josie will take care of that for you and soon, your life will fall back to the way it was before. I promise." But first, it was the difficult task of training Ethan to control his urges because MG knows just how easy it was for him to lose control. MG smiled at Ethan's excitement to learn about the other species. It left his head reeling for quite some time after learning about supernatural creatures from Stefan, but then the excitement settled in and he started reading about them more and more in the library back at the school. "Of course. I'll talk to Headmaster Alaric and Headmistress Jenna. They're good people." MG said with a quick nod of his head following. With how they wanted nothing more than to help those in need, MG was confident that they won't turn Ethan away.
MG was grateful to hear that Ethan didn't blame him for keeping these things from Ethan. The other has always been pretty understanding, and it was definitely a relief to see that hasn't changed. "It's completely up to you. I'll support you wholeheartedly if you decide to do that. They might not be able to process it well, but I guess you'll never know that until you give it a try and I really do hope that they take it well." MG would hate for Ethan to be driven away for what he was when he had no control over it and it was far too late already for him to change anything. "Yup. They are. Some of them are absolutely cruel. They don't care if you're good or not." MG warned. He seemed relieved to hear that Ethan was going to lay low.
"Thank you." He can't risk losing Ethan a second time. "It all depends on how they handle grief or when something traumatic happens. We all process emotions differently, and sometimes, it's just too much for anyone to handle." MG sympathized with the vampires who experienced something so traumatic that they just had to shut their humanity off, but he knows that what they choose to do after shutting their humanity off that lingers for many years to come. That sort of guilt just never washes away no matter how hard you scrub. "God, I think they're like, more than a thousand years old. They go way back. Y'know, one of the students is actually the daughter of one of the originals. Vampires can't really have kids of their own, but Hope was an exception because her dad wasn't just a vampire, but a werewolf too. Miracle child, and all that. You can ask her all about her family." MG said, his tone still soft as he spoke.
MG considered Ethan's next question if the other species have originals or not. "I think they come into being differently. Like, for example, werewolves can either be born with the gene, or they can get bit by an Alpha. Psychics are born that way with supernatural abilities that come into play at a certain age..." And from there, MG continued giving examples to support his point. "I'll have to ask Stefan about this later and I'll definitely let you know." MG said with a quick nod of his head following once he stopped giving Ethan examples.
MG paused at Ethan's question but he didn't blame him at all for being curious. His lips stretched into a gentle smile at his next words before he shook his head. "It's okay, I do wanna tell you." MG promised. "I kinda hung around the wrong crowd when I was around fifteen. You could call it my own little rebellious phase. Um, through this clique, I met a girl named Alexandra, or Alex for short. She was super cool and I liked her a lot. She was actually a vampire and one day, when I finally decided to attend a party, she drank from me and she must've had too much to drink that night because when I woke up next, I was in transition. The details are a bit blurry, but I'm guessing that she either gave me her blood before I died, or it was someone else who didn't want me to die, or didn't want the blood on Alex's hands. Anyway, um, I woke up in transition and headed home, told my mom about it, and that's when she called Stefan, and the rest is history." MG revealed. Talking about her didn't hurt as much as it used to, so that was definitely progress. "To answer your next question, I've been a vampire for a few years now. I'd say three or four. I kinda lost count." MG revealed with a quick nod following. He was no expert by any means, he had his own moments of fluctuating control, but he always found his way out of it in the end and that was all that mattered, wasn't it? "Do you have any other questions?" MG asked and not long after asking that, his hearing picked up on the sound of knocks at the front door. "Oh, I think that's Josie. I'll be right back." MG promised before he got up so that he could go and answer the door.
When he saw Josie, he offered her a gentle smile. "Thanks for coming over on such a short notice." MG leaned in and gave her a quick hug before he stepped back to let her in. "Um. I've got a bit of a situation... It'd be best if you came with me." And from there, MG began making his way upstairs to his bedroom where Ethan was. "Um, E? This is Josie, my close friend. Josie, this is Ethan, also my close friend." He didn't know if they had met before, but if they did, it would definitely be a plus. "Ethan is, um, a vampire now. He just completed his transition. I'll tell you all about it, I promise. But for now, I was wondering if you could fix him a daylight amulet? E, you can tell Josie what you would like it to look like. Do you prefer a ring, bracelet, or something else?" MG asked as he stood beside Josie, his arms crossed in front of his chest but his expression was still soft.

Nodding as MG told him to take all the time he needed, Ethan really was grateful that MG wasn’t trying to rush him in any way. He knew MG and he knew that he wasn’t the kind of guy to do that but Ethan knew that he had a lot to get his head around before he was ready to be around his family or anyone else human for that matter. It all still sounded crazy even now but Ethan knew that MG was telling him the truth, he wasn’t the kind of guy who would ever joke about something like this and Ethan knew that he had died anyway so it was the only thing that made sense. “It’s the truth. You mean a lot to me, MG,” Ethan assured him gently. It had been that way since the day they met and Ethan knew that it wasn’t going to change now. “You’ve got a point there. It sounds like you’ve built a pretty great life for yourself here so there’s definitely a silver lining to it,” he nodded. MG may not have a relationship with his parents any longer but he still had family around him and Ethan was glad about that. As MG said that Stefan already knew about him, Ethan’s cheeks flushed red slightly. “He does? All good things I hope,” he chuckled. “Are you sure he won’t mind an unexpected house guest?” he added quickly, realising that it wasn’t really the way he should be meeting MG’s family. Ethan never liked imposing on anyone but he knew that he couldn’t go back home yet so he didn’t have much of a choice. “I do. You weren’t counting on any of this so I’m grateful that you’re helping me,” Ethan admitted. MG could have easily walked away and left him to it but he hadn’t done that. Ethan knew that that wasn’t who his friend was but this was still something that neither of them had counted on happening so he was glad that he didn’t have to try and navigate it alone. “That sounds so good,” Ethan admitted as MG said that Josie would make him something and then his life could get back to the way it was. Ethan knew that things were going to change, there was no way they wouldn’t after this, but he knew that he wanted to get back to normal as much as he could given the circumstances. “That would be great, I’m not sure I’d feel comfortable going back to Whitmore right now,” he admitted. Being surrounded by so many humans was sure to take time and he knew that the last thing he wanted was to end up losing control and hurting someone. “It’s a scary thought, I don’t know what I’d do if they didn’t take it well,” Ethan sighed. That was exactly what had happened for MG by the sounds of it and Ethan couldn’t even begin to imagine how difficult that must have been for him. He didn’t know the details of what had happened and it didn’t feel like his place to ask but the thought of either his mom or sister thinking he would have been better off dead scared the hell out of him. He wanted to tell them because he didn’t want to have to lie to them but at the same time he wasn’t sure how they would take it so he knew that he would just have to wait and see. “If there are hunters like that in town wouldn’t it be safer to leave?” Ethan asked, not sure why MG and his family and friends had all decided to stick around and take the risk. “I guess that makes sense. I remember how difficult it was when my dad died, having something like that happen and having to deal with heightened emotions must be a lot.” Ethan knew that he had all of this to look forward to, MG had told him a lot about what it was like being a vampire and Ethan knew that it wasn’t going to be easy but he was going to do his best because he knew that it was much better than the alternative. He would be lying if he said there wasn’t a part of him that was worried about losing who he was right now but he had MG in his corner and he knew the guy wouldn’t let that happen. “A thousand years old? That’s crazy,” Ethan breathed. “Are they the oldest you’ve come across?” he asked, not sure if there were other species that were older. “A vampire and a werewolf?” he asked in disbelief. “Why do I get the feeling there’s a story there?” he said as he looked over at MG. “I’ll definitely be sure to ask her about them,” he added with a nod. Ethan had already known that he had a lot to learn but now he was starting to see that he had a lot more to learn than he’d thought. “I have no idea how you remember all this,” he chuckled as MG started giving him examples of how other species came into being. “Thanks,” he said, a smile touching his lips as MG said he would check with Stefan and let him know. Ethan knew that asking how MG became a vampire was a bit of a personal question but considering everything that had happened that day he knew that it would help him understand MG better. He knew that he wouldn’t be offended if MG didn’t want to tell him but soon enough he was explaining what had happened and Ethan listened intently. “I’m so sorry, man. Either way you didn’t deserve that but it’s good that your mom called Stefan at least,” he said gently. He hadn’t liked the idea of MG having to go through this on his own so he was glad that hadn’t happened. “How have you been finding it since then?” he asked as MG said he had been a vampire for a few years. Before he could ask anything else a knock on the door sounded and Ethan nodded as MG said he would be right back. “Alright,” he said, finally pushing himself up off the bed and moving around the room so he could stretch his legs while he waited. Josie had been surprised when she’d received MG’s call, he hadn’t gone into too much detail but she could tell that it was important so she gathered up everything she thought that she was going to need and headed to the Boarding House. “No problem, you’re always there for me,” she said, a smile touching her lips as she hugged MG back tightly. He was always someone that she could lean on and he was good at helping her get out of her own head which was never a bad thing. “That sounds a little ominous,” she admitted as MG said that he had a bit of a situation. Following MG up to his room, Josie was surprised to see Ethan there. “Hey Ethan, I didn’t know you two knew each other,” she admitted. They had met at the comic book store when she had been picking up a comic but they didn’t know each other too well. Josie’s eyes widened as MG said Ethan had just completed the transition and asked whether she could fix him a daylight amulet. “Of course, I came prepared just in case,” she nodded, knowing that she had a lapis lazuli stone in her bag somewhere. She had grown used to carrying them around in case of emergencies and they came in handy more often than they should. “What would be easiest for you to make?” Ethan asked, not wanting to complicate matters. “Rings are the most common but anything really. I have a necklace,” she said, holding it up so he could see. “This is the stone I’ll use, it can be set in just about anything,” she explained as she held it out to him to see. “Would a bracelet be too much trouble? That will probably be easier for me to explain,” Ethan admitted and Josie nodded. “Of course. You can always change your mind later if you want to,” Josie offered before setting to work making the bracelet. Once it was done, she held it out to Ethan. “How does this work?” he asked as he took it before looking from MG to Josie and back again. MILTON GREASLEY
