“Alright, I’m glad you think so,” Ethan admitted as MG said that it was a killer name. Ethan knew that it wasn’t as good as a lot of the superhero names out there but he had liked it the moment he had thought of it so it had stuck and now he was glad that it had done. “You got that right, better not rush it,” he nodded. “I know you’ll come up with something great.” MG seemed to be just as into comic books and superheroes as Ethan was so there really wasn’t a doubt in his mind about that. Ethan didn’t know anything about the supernatural world but he didn’t need to in order to know to be careful around Mystic Falls. His mom had been a cop his whole life so he had always known that there were dangers out there but that was the case everywhere. No town was completely safe and Mystic Falls was no exception. They had more than their fair share of disappearances and animal attacks, that was for sure, but there were other things going on around town that he and MG could help with and Ethan knew that he wanted to do just that. “Sounds good to me, Batman,” Ethan chuckled, an amused smile forming on his face as he looked over at his new friend. “You and me both. My mom is always telling me off for it but I can’t help it,” he grinned. It was far too easy to get caught up in a comic book and lose track of time and Ethan was forever falling asleep with the light on and the comic book resting on his chest. He knew that there were much worse things to be addicted to, though, so he was pretty sure that his mom didn’t mind his hobby as much as she let on. “Which ones have you found yourself addicted to the most?” he asked, unable to deny that he was curious. There were so many different ones out there and he knew that MG liked Marvel comics but that still left plenty of choices. “You should, it doesn’t happen too often,” Ethan chuckled as MG said he would consider it a good thing that he’d deceived him. Ethan was relieved when MG agreed to meeting up to throw the football around. It was something that he had always loved doing but there wasn’t really anyone that he could do that with at the moment. He had a few friends on the football team that he could count on but they didn’t live in town and had a habit of getting themselves into trouble a lot of the time when they weren’t in class and that wasn’t something that Ethan was interested in. Perhaps it was the fact that his mom was a cop that made him toe the line a little more than others his age but he knew that the last thing he wanted was to end up getting her into trouble so he often tried to be careful. Nodding as MG agreed to call him whenever he was free, Ethan felt a half smile touch his lips as MG said he didn’t need people like some of the guys on the football team in his life. “Definitely not. They’re good football players but off the pitch some of them aren’t the kind of guys I’d want to be friends with.” Playing alongside them was one thing but socialising with them off the pitch was something different entirely and Ethan knew that he would much rather choose his own friends who were more like he was than try and force himself to be around people like that. A smile touched Ethan’s lips as MG assured him that what he’d said was the truth and that smile only widened when MG called him “E”. It wasn’t something that anyone else had ever called him but the truth was that he liked it and he was glad that he was able to call MG a friend. “That’s great. Are they older than you or younger?” he asked, hoping to learn a little more about MG’s family if he was happy to talk about them. As MG said he trusted him, Ethan’s smile returned. “That’s good because I trust you too,” he admitted. There was just something about MG that made him feel that way and he hadn’t trusted someone this quickly in a really long time, if ever. “Thanks man. It has been pretty tough but we’re doing alright,” he admitted. They were doing much better than they had been a couple of years ago anyway, that was for sure. “I hope so too, I’d be lost without them,” Ethan nodded. He had always been close to his family and after losing his dad it had brought them all that much closer together. Now they looked out for each other more than they ever had before and he knew that that wasn’t going to change. As MG said he hoped they had a great stay with them there, Ethan’s smile returned. “Trust me, we already are. Being here is what we all needed,” he admitted. They had needed a change of scenery and Mystic Falls was definitely giving them that. They’d had the chance to start over and Ethan knew that they were all grateful for that. As MG spoke again, Ethan shook his head. “You’re not. I’m just meant to keep an eye on the till and make sure the shelves stay stocked up. I can do that with you here,” he assured him before catching sight of the time. “My shift actually finishes in a few minutes though if you want to hang out after,” he suggested. MILTON GREASLEY

I know what it's like to think of yourself as a monster
MG's smile remained on his lips as he listened to Ethan. He nodded his head in agreement with him because he was definitely right about not rushing things. He didn't want to come up with a bad super hero name, after all. "Thanks, man." MG replied when he told him that he will come up with something great. "Not as great as Rescue Guy, but I'll try to catch up." MG added with the same smile still resting on his lips.
MG feigned a surprised reaction as he gasped before he quickly pressed his finger against his lips in a gesture for Ethan to lower his voice. "I'm Bruce Wayne right now, you can't out me like that." MG joked, feigning a disappointed shake of his head as he checked his surroundings but it was 'thankfully' just the two of them in the store. MG chuckled as he listened to Ethan tell him that his mom always tells him off for it. "Any of the ones with Batman in them, so basically all of Batman's comic books. Bonus points if Robin is in them, too." MG said with a quick nod of his head following. "I think I've read Batman: The Court of Owls one too many times, honestly. Don't even get me started on The Dark Knight Returns." MG honestly felt like he could wind up talking about DC comic books for years but he stopped so that he wouldn't get carried away. MG chuckled when he told him that it doesn't happen often. In that case, he'll wear that badge with honor.
MG nodded his head in an understanding manner. It sucked that they weren't very good people to hang out with, but he had a feeling that his friends will easily befriend Ethan because he was just that easy to talk to. "In that case, I'll definitely introduce you to all my friends." MG said with a quick nod of his head following, his smile present on his lips. "You guys will get along great," he had a feeling that they will, at least. Most of the time, those feelings were correct.
"They're older." MG revealed with a smile resting on his lips. 'They're very nice." MG added a moment later. His smile only grew brighter when Ethan revealed that he trusted him, too. "I'm honored, E." MG replied, the same smile still visible. He was quiet as he listened to Ethan explain that it has been pretty tough. "I'm glad to hear that you guys are doing alright." He really was glad. Grief was an awful thing, he'd seen it tear people apart from the inside out, so he understood what Ethan was going through. He felt a small smile rest on his lips as he listened to Ethan, nodding his head so he'd know that he was listening to him. "I'm really glad to hear that." MG replied when Ethan told him that being here was all they needed. "Must be nice getting a fresh start," MG commented with the same smile still on his lips.
MG then made a comment about worrying that he was going to get Ethan in trouble by overstaying, but Ethan was reassuring him soon after and he relaxed visibly, his grin returning to his lips. "Oh, sure! I'm free for the rest of the day so we can hang out." MG said with a quick nod of his head following. "If you wanna toss the ball 'round for a bit, I'd be down for it."

“You’ll smash it, don’t worry,” Ethan chuckled. “You’ll probably come up with something much better than I did.” He knew that Rescue Guy was a pretty simple name for a superhero but he liked it and he knew that that was all that mattered. MG didn’t seem like the kind of guy to judge him for it either and for that Ethan truly was grateful. He had managed to get to know a few people at school so far but he hadn’t found it as easy to get on with any of them as he did with MG. He had never found it difficult to make friends and he didn’t now but he hadn’t been in town for too long so he knew that he needed to take his time finding the right people that he wanted to hang out with. MG definitely fell into that category and Ethan knew that it was a shame that the guy went to a different school but he knew he wasn’t going to let that stop them being friends. Ethan couldn’t stop a smile from forming on his face at MG’s reaction when he called him Batman. “Of course, how could I forget?” he said, playfully hitting his forehead as he played along. “I think you’re safe, no one overheard us,” he added, pretending to look around the shop to make sure. Ethan had to admit that it was nice having someone to joke around with like this, he knew that moving away was the right thing to do for all of them but he couldn’t deny that he missed being able to talk comics with his friends. MG was the first person around his age that he’d met in town who seemed to love them as much as he did and that made things so much easier. “So you’re a major Batman fan, got it,” Ethan nodded. “The Court of Owls is good and so is Gotham Central. I think we might be getting a new story arc coming out soon,” he admitted. That was something that he had heard through the grapevine but he wasn’t sure exactly when it would be out. “I appreciate that man, thanks. I can’t wait,” Ethan said sincerely as MG said that he would definitely introduce him to all of his friends. Getting along with MG was so easy and Ethan knew that if the same was true of MG’s friends then he would be pretty lucky indeed. “I’m glad you’ve got them now, I hope they’re looking out for you,” he nodded. He and Maya had always looked out for each other so he knew just how powerful that bond could be. MG had grown up an only child but now he had siblings and Ethan honestly hoped that they were getting along well. “Hopefully I’ll get to meet them one day.” He knew that he and MG had only just met but it already felt like he had known the guy for years. Ethan had known that starting over would be a challenge but now there wasn’t a doubt in his mind that it was the right thing to do and he hoped that his mom and sister saw that too. “We’re getting there. We’ve had our ups and downs but we still have each other,” he shrugged, knowing that they would be fine as long as they had each other. “It is. I needed to get away from all the memories more than I realised,” he admitted. “Was it the same for you when you moved here?” he asked, unable to deny that he was curious. It was only when MG mentioned that he was worried about getting him into trouble that Ethan realised what the time was. “That sounds great. I need to grab my stuff and clock out but that will only take me a few minutes. Is there anything you want me to put through the till for you before I do that?” he asked, not sure whether MG had decided on buying any of the comics he had been looking at for sure or not. There had been a few that he’d seemed interested in but Ethan knew that some people preferred to go for just a couple to start with so they could ease themselves in. MILTON GREASLEY

I know what it's like to think of yourself as a monster
MG's lips stretched into a smile when Ethan told him that he will smash it. "If I can't find a good name, then I'll just ask for your help." MG released a soft gasp at Ethan's next words. "I could never be that cool, I'm afraid." MG offered back with a grin resting on his lips not long after. He never actually thought much about his superhero name because there were times where MG didn't feel like a superhero but a super villain instead but he just knew that it was his mind playing tricks on him, making him think of himself as a villain when he had always tried his best to help people. To be good.
MG pretended to take a quick look around him for a moment before he looked back at Ethan, feigning a sigh of relief. "Okay, good, phew." A grin formed on his lips not long after which showcased he was just messing around. It felt really nice, to click this well with someone. "Yup. I definitely am." He confirmed with a quick nod of his head when Ethan commented about him being a major Batman fan. He just can't help but love the fact that he could be two completely different people. A vigilante determined to bring justice to those who break the law and an orphan billionaire who seemed like a recluse to most people. "Oh, shit, really? Looks like I'm gonna visit y'all again soon, then." Well, he was going to visit again anyway to spend more time with Ethan, but looks like he's got a really good excuse to pop up every now and then.
MG nodded his head with a gentle smile resting on his lips. "Of course, man. It's the least that I can do." MG could think of a few people already that would enjoy visiting the store. There was Landon, Jed, and more. He could also tell Josie about Ethan because he knew that she liked befriending people, so he had no doubt that she'd get along really well with Ethan. "They are, it feels nice, being part of a big family like that. Back then, it was just me, ma, and pops." MG said with a half-smile tugging at the corner of his lips. "I hope so too, man. I have a feeling you'll get along great." MG said with a quick nod of his head following, his smile still present on his lips. "And I hope I get to meet your sister one day." MG was quiet as he listened to Ethan, nodding his head along to let him know that he was listening along to what he was saying.
"I totally get that." MG understood what Ethan was saying and he hoped that Mystic Falls would slowly but surely cure his broken heart and ease his grief a little bit. "Yeah, you could say that." MG actually never thought of it that way. Back then, he was getting away from his parents more than anything else, but he was beginning to realize that if he had stayed then the memories would've driven him away. He wouldn't have been able to survive there for longer than a day because the urge to go home would be burning under his skin but he'd know all too well that he can't go home.
MG felt a smile immediately form on his lips when he realized that it was already time for Ethan to clock out. "That's completely fine, E. Take your time." He thought about his question for a moment before he nodded his head. "Yeah, I'll get The Court of Owls and Gotham Central. I'll drop by another time for more comics once I've read those." MG said with a quick nod of his head following. "You can grab your things, I'll grab the comics." MG said before he turned around so that he could make his way to the correct section to grab the two comic books, his face brightening up the second he spotted the ones that he needed to get. He grabbed them off the shelf and made his way back to the front, placing the two comic books down before he fetched his wallet out of his pocket to pay for them once Ethan was ready.
Once they were all ready to go, MG grabbed the comic books and headed out of the store with Ethan. "Alright, do you have a ride?"

“Something tells me you won’t need my help,” Ethan chuckled as MG said that he would ask for his help if he couldn’t find a good name. It seemed like the guy really was into comic books and that definitely helped to take inspiration from. Rescue Guy might be pretty lame but Ethan liked it nonetheless. As MG spoke again, Ethan couldn’t help but laugh. “I guess you’re right,” he teased. He knew that it was silly but he really did like the idea of helping people out and it seemed like he had found a kindred spirit with that. MG really did seem like a great guy and Ethan knew that he didn’t want to end up getting him into trouble but he couldn’t deny that he liked the idea of having someone by his side trying to make the town a better place. “Sorry man, I’ll do better next time,” he grinned. He knew that MG was only messing around but if he was honest it was good to be able to have someone to do that with. His friends on the football team really weren’t into comic books and Ethan hadn’t yet found anyone else in town who was. To be fair he hadn’t been in town for that long but still. He knew that he wasn’t like a lot of people, he liked playing football but he didn’t want to be defined by just the typical jock stereotype. He knew that there was more to him than that but this side of him was one that he hadn’t let anyone see since he’d arrived in town. His mom and Maya knew, of course, but he knew that he had to keep it from the friends he had made so far because he didn’t doubt that they would look at him differently if they found out. “I can let you know when it comes in, if you like,” Ethan offered, knowing that he wouldn’t want MG to miss out. “Thanks, man. I appreciate that,” Ethan said sincerely. He got along well with the people he played football with and the others he’d met at college but the truth was that talking to MG was the most fun he’d had in a while and he knew that if the guy’s friends were anything like him then they were going to be much more like the kind of people that Ethan preferred to hang out with. “I’m glad you’ve got that chance, you deserve it,” he said gently. “I don’t always get on with my sister but I’d be lost without her,” he admitted. His family wasn’t a big one but he had at least always had Maya by his side and that was something that he wouldn’t want to give up for anything in the world. They weren’t actually twins, in fact they were half-siblings but they were so close to being the same age that they had always thought of themselves as twins. As MG spoke again, Ethan felt a smile touch his lips. “I hope so, they sound like great people,” Ethan nodded. For some reason he wanted to get along with MG’s family, the guy had made a really big impression on him so far and Ethan hoped that he would get along with the people who were already in his life. “You will although fair warning, she’ll probably give you a hard time for liking comic books just like she does to me,” he chuckled. “It’s tough, you know? He was my hero while I was growing up but now it’s just the three of us,” Ethan shrugged. “I have to stay strong for my mom and sister though.” He knew that it was just as bad for his mom and Maya, probably worse for Maya actually since their mom wasn’t her biological mom but that was how she had been raised. Not a day went by when they didn’t miss him but Ethan knew that he just had to hope that in time it would get easier and having something to distract him would definitely help with that. As MG said it had been like that for him as well, Ethan nodded. “In a way it’s comforting to be surrounded by so many memories sometimes but others it just reminds you of everything you’ve lost.” That was something that he had learned firsthand after his dad died but now he had the chance to start over and he knew that he wanted to take it. “Thanks,” Ethan said, a smile touching his lips as MG told him to take his time. It really wouldn’t take him long to grab his things and then they could get going. “Sounds good. I’ll see what I can dig out from my collection that you might like as well,” he nodded. He could already think of a few he had that MG might like so it would definitely be worth a try. “Alright, you got it,” he nodded, heading into the back room to grab his things before returning and putting the comics that MG wanted through the till for him. Once they had been paid for they were free to go and Ethan pulled his keys out of his pocket and held them up as MG asked if he had a ride. “My truck’s out back. I can give you a ride if you walked or do you want to follow me in your car?” he asked, knowing that he didn’t want to make things awkward if MG had driven there as well. MILTON GREASLEY

I know what it's like to think of yourself as a monster
Milton felt a soft smile tug at the corner of his lips at Ethan's words. "Oh, man, you have too much faith in me." Milton said with a chuckle falling from his lips. Sometimes, it's easy to view yourself as anything but a hero just because of what you are but the Salvatore School and College taught the students that even though you are different from other kids, you're not a monster. It was a message that they delivered almost every single day in various classes and eventually, Milton stopped seeing himself as such and now he could find joy in the possibility of being a hero. He just wanted to protect people, those who are close to him and those who aren't. He'd never differentiate between them or pick favorites. Everyone deserves a chance to live. "Oh, I'm definitely right. Is this the face of someone who says anything untrue?" Milton made a gesture toward his face with a grin tugging at the corner of his lips. There was something telling him that he and Ethan are a lot more alike than he first thought.
"It's okay, I forgive you. Mistakes can happen." Milton said, still pretending to be a super hero under cover right now despite knowing that the only things under cover were his fangs. "Thanks, E. I'd really appreciate that." That was Milton's reply when Ethan suggested letting him know when the comic gets here. It felt nice, talking to someone who shared his love for comics. Sure, there were a few geeks back at the school but they tended to dislike his favorite types of comics. So, it was definitely good to know that he now had someone to share his favorites with. Milton's lips stretch into a soft smile when Ethan thanked him. "Of course." He said in a soft voice. When Ethan said that he deserved to have that kind of family around him, his smile only widened. "I'm glad you think that way, E." He really was. It felt nice, being seen like that. "I think that's the beauty of having a sibling, though. You butt-heads but at the end of the day, there's nothing you wouldn't do for her and vice versa." Milton said with the same smile resting on his lips.
Milton nodded his head in agreement with Ethan's words. "They are." Honestly, he had no idea where he'd even be without them. His eyes widened slightly as he feigned an offended gasp. "She wouldn't..." Milton's expression turned into one of determination. "That's okay, I'll just have to find dirt to dig up on her. Everyone has to have at least one guilty pleasure, right?" He acted all too confident but then he leaned forward slightly, his eyes on Ethan as his tone turned into a hushed whisper. "You'll tell me the dirt you have on her, right?" He asked in the same hushed tone, his confidence nowhere to be found.
"I completely understand." Milton assured him in a soft voice as he continued listening to Ethan explaining that being surrounded by memories could both be a good thing and a bad thing. "It may just be the three of you right now, but he'll always be a part of the family through the memories you have of him. He'll always be there. In your heart." Milton pointed at Ethan's heart with a small smile resting on his lips. "I — I don't know, E. I mean, through something like this, you get stronger by leaning on each other. If you want to cry, then cry. If you wanna miss him, then miss him. You don't have to try and hide it for their sake. They wouldn't want you to do that. Lean on them just like how they'll lean on you. Pretending to be something that you're not, It's not — It can make you forget who you are if you do it for too long." There was nothing worse than pretending to be okay when deep down, you're anything but. After a while, you simply begin believing your own lies and you simply stop expressing your own feelings because you just keep thinking that you're strong and you can handle it just fine. "I totally get that, though. About the memories." Milton empathized with a soft smile resting on his lips. "I hope that it'll continue getting easier for you and your family, E."
Milton's lips stretched into a soft smile when Ethan thanked him. He murmured a soft 'it's no problem' and then Ethan's next words had his smile grow bigger. "You're spoilin' me, E." Milton said with a soft chuckle falling from his lips. "Thanks, though." He added a moment later to show his appreciation. Once everything was paid for and MG had his comics, it was time to go. "Oh, yeah, a lift sounds great." Milton agreed with a quick nod of his head following. He made his way to Ethan's car and settled in the passenger's side. "Sweet ride, man." MG said with a grin on his lips as he fastened his seatbelt. "Alright, I'm ready. Let's get goin'." Needless to say, MG was pretty excited about tossing the ball around with Ethan.

“I don’t think I do, you seem to know what you’re talking about,” Ethan laughed as MG said that he had too much faith in him. They had only just met but Ethan couldn’t deny that he had taken a shine to the guy quicker than he had anyone else. There was just something about him that made Ethan feel like he was a good guy and even though it was only something silly they were talking about he really did believe that MG would end up picking the perfect superhero name. Ethan knew that his own wasn’t great but he liked it and he knew that had to count for something. His sister would no doubt tease him something awful if she knew about all of this but thankfully he didn’t have to worry about that and he really hoped that it would stay that way. “Yes, it definitely is,” he chuckled as MG asked if his was the face of someone who would ever say something that wasn’t true. Ethan was only joking of course, he had no reason not to trust what MG was saying but that didn’t mean that he couldn’t still mess around and tease him nonetheless. “Luckily there’s no one around so I didn’t blow your cover,” Ethan said, pretending to look around them for anyone lurking in the shadows before his smile returned. “Then consider it done,” he nodded as MG said he would appreciate him letting him know when the comic arrived. It felt like the least he could do really and it would give them an excuse to hang out again so that definitely wasn’t a bad thing as far as Ethan was concerned. He hadn’t found anyone who liked the same comics as him since he’d moved to Mystic Falls and the truth was that Ethan had missed having someone he could talk about this kind of stuff with. He had his boss, of course, but it wasn’t the same as being able to talk about them with his friends back home but now with MG around he finally felt like things were looking up. “Of course I do. You’re a great guy MG, you deserve to be happy.” It sounded like he definitely hadn’t had it easy in the past but now things seemed to be getting better for him and Ethan honestly hoped that it would stay that way. “You’re right about that. We’ve always looked out for each other so I wouldn’t be without her,” he admitted. Ethan knew that it might sound a little strange but he loved his family and he knew that he wouldn’t want them any other way. Nodding as MG confirmed that his new family were great people, Ethan couldn’t help but laugh as MG said that Maya wouldn’t. “Trust me, she definitely would,” he chuckled, knowing that there wasn’t a doubt in his mind about that. “Maya has way more than one guilty pleasure,” he grinned before pretending to think about it for a moment as MG asked if he could tell him all the dirt that he had on her. “Hmm. Asking me to break the sibling code is a pretty big deal,” he said, pretending to think about it for a moment longer before laughing. “Of course I would, I know Maya will love telling you all about mine,” he nodded, knowing that it was only fair that he do the same in that case. “I know he will. He might be gone but I can still feel him with me,” Ethan admitted. It had been difficult being surrounded by so many memories of his dad all the time so the truth was that starting over was what he needed and he knew that it was the same for his mom and sister. “I know I can lean on them and I do but they’re just starting to do better and I don’t want to bring it all up for them again. I miss him every day but I deal with it in my own way,” Ethan shrugged. He had lost count of the amount of times when he’d had his mom and sister crying on his shoulder and there were times when he’d joined them in that but in the end he’d realised that he had to be the strong one to help pull them through it. It wasn’t easy but he was doing the best that he could. “I know they won’t let me forget who I am and hopefully you won’t either,” he added. MG might be a new friend to him but he was already someone that Ethan trusted to have his back. “I hope so,” he nodded as MG said he hoped that it would continue getting easier for them. There wasn’t anything that Ethan wanted more than that right now. The smile that formed on MG’s face when he said he would find out some comics for him from his own collection was enough to make Ethan smile back at him. “It’s the least I can do after you’ve heard me out today. Besides, I’ve got a few issues I think you’ll like that aren’t easy to find,” he shrugged. Ethan had always enjoyed helping friends branch out when it came to comics and that definitely hadn’t changed. It wasn’t long before the comics were paid for and Ethan led the way in the direction of his truck when MG accepted his offer of a ride. “Thanks, it’s not much but I like it,” he admitted as he climbed into the driver’s side and fastened his seatbelt. The Salvatore School and College were private schools and Ethan wasn’t sure how they would feel about someone who wasn’t a student there showing up so instead he drove them to the park and grabbed the football he always kept with him out of the back before tossing it to MG. “Are you ready?” he asked as they started heading out onto the grass. It didn’t look like there were too many people around, in fact it already looked like people were heading home for the day so at least they wouldn’t have to worry about that. MILTON GREASLEY
