“I know he didn’t. He was the real monster but even after everything I still lost Tommy so I guess my ex is having the last laugh after all,” Diego sighed. It was what the guy had wanted, he’d tried to turn Tommy against him that day at the warehouse and it hadn’t looked like it had worked but now it seemed that Diego had been wrong about that after all. Tommy had told him so many times that he wasn’t going anywhere and he had broken that promise. Diego didn’t understand how things had changed so suddenly but there wasn’t anything that he could do about it now no matter how much he might want to. Tommy had broken up with him and he had broken his heart in the process. “He’s it for me, I don’t know how I’m meant to do this without him,” he admitted. He had lived a life before Tommy came along but he had been existing rather than really living. He had drifted from one bad relationship to the next not really knowing what his life was going to end up being like but with Tommy he had finally seen himself having a future with someone. It seemed crazy to think that it wasn’t that long ago that they were talking about moving in together and building a life together and now that future was completely gone. “I don’t want to think that he was pretending, he seemed so genuine and I think he really did love me but something changed for him.” Diego had been reluctant to let Tommy in at first because he hadn’t wanted to end up getting hurt again but Tommy had said all of the right things and he had seemed to really mean them. Now everything felt wrong and he had no idea how to make it right. As Ethan said that he deserved to be happy, Diego reached up and wiped his eyes. “I was happy. I don’t want to be with anyone else,” he shrugged. Diego knew that it was possible for people to move on and find love again, he had seen it happen, but the truth was that he wasn’t sure that he wanted to. He knew that he would only keep on comparing anyone he was with to Tommy and that wouldn’t be fair on them. The guy had captured his heart and even in its broken state it still belonged to him now so Diego knew that he was just going to have to learn to find a way to live with that. “Thanks Ethan,” he nodded as the guy said that if there was anyone who could push through this then it was him and that his feelings were valid. Right now Diego had no idea what to do but he knew that he needed to find a way to keep going. “To be honest I’ve cried so much I’m not sure I have anymore tears left in me right now,” he admitted. It would be so easy to curl up into a ball and give into the overwhelming sadness he felt but he knew that he couldn’t. Offering Ethan a smile as he said that letting him stay was the least he could do, Diego really was grateful to both of them. He should have been getting ready to give them their house back not getting ready to stay longer but neither of them seemed to mind and that really did mean the world to him. “I know it was different for the two of you but how did you keep going after the war?” he asked. Somehow Toni and Ethan had found a way to keep going after Ethan had died and he hoped that learning how they had done it might just help him. ETHAN ALVAREZ
