Joe might hate the fact he was stuck in the bed and becoming a patient but he hasn't been able to sleep much. He always wakes up in the woods or back home with dirt over him. Also he has been getting very strange dreams lately, he just couldn't explain it. So the exhaustion just caught up with him and he just passed out on the floor. He was just glad he wasn't driving at the time. I don't really have lunch. It is more or less a snack to keep me going. I usually grab some fries when the shift is quiet. I only have a orange or apple in lunchbox he admitted to her
I might hate being a patient, but I wouldn't leave behind your back. I don't want to hurt anyone. But seriously I hate cafeteria food. It's disgusting he made a face to this as he watched her closely as he yawned again. He was struggling to keep away right now. But he was scared to fall asleep here. What if he starts sleepwalking and tries to drive his car back home or something, so he needs to stay awake as much as possible. Once he was back in his apartment he be safe at least
Are you seriously keeping me in? I just want to go Meredith. If I can't work I will be much better in my home. At least I was safe there he immediately stopped as he didn't want to mention his sleepwalking or whatever he was doing to get dirt all over him. As she came towards him he listened to her saying he was good at his job. Losing the recent patient was the final straw for him, it broke him so much. Thanks for your kind words. I really need to hear that. I just wish the losses will stop now Joe had no idea he was dealing with supernatural beings and he too was part of this cycle as well

In the aftermath With Joe Green It didn't take long for the truth to come out. That lunch wasn't worth the time it would take to fetch it. "Food from the kitchen it is," Meredith concluded with a soft smile. "Don't worry --- I'll make sure nothing is mushy or unidentifiable." Given that she had already had one heck of a time getting him to agree to stay she wouldn't push her luck. "There are a few things I really enjoy. I'll get you there Meredith Special. Also, I very much appreciate the fact that you wouldn't leave me high and dry. There is a lot of paper work involved in that." It was a bit of humor on her part but she was trying to keep the conversation light. The last few hours had been a lot for him to deal with.
She reached for the phone in the room, calling the front desk to get them to bring up some food. After specifically requesting what she got from time to time, she hung the phone back up and took in his tired state. "You know, you can crash here if you want. Catch a quick nap. You don't even half to do it in a hospital bed. You can go to the break room if that would be easier." She could tell he was exhausted and she understood that all too well. Working in health care was draining. She caught how he insisted that he was safe at home and furrowed her brows. "You'd be safe here too, I hope you know that Joe."
There was definitely so much more to this story but she doubted that he was going to provide her answers unless she pulled them from him.
"I get it, I really do. I hate losing people. I wish I could say that it never is going to happen again but that's not realistic. We work in a place where people die sometimes. We just have to remember that so many more of them live, Joe." If he was going to take anything away she at least hoped he would take that little fact.

Joe was half hoping he didn't have to eat anything. It was rare for him to eat until he got home. He was happy with just a slice of apple. There was no appetite for him to eat. He hasn't had it for a while, he never understands why. Few things were still confusing for him and he believed he was losing his mind at times. What special? You don't have to do anything special. A simple sandwich is fine, I am not really that hungry anyway he said as he lay back fighting the exhaustion as he didn't want to sleep. Not here. Not with his issues he been getting lately
She mentioned the nap and he shaked his head to that not wanting too. He hoped they did not give him anything to force him to sleep. No… it is not safe to do that here. he looked into her eyes as he was scared to look at his face. He couldn't tell anyone that he does crazy stuff when sleep. Strange event which he can't explain. His clothes are either burnt off, or he is covered in dirt. Sometimes he wakes up in the woods unsure why or how he got there in the first place it is not about safety for me. It is safe for others. Joe didn't want to sound crazy so he tried to brush it off. forget I say that. I talk nonsense when I tired he doubt it would work, but he can certainly try
Joe sat up and swung his legs over so it was easy to hop down when he got strength back for a moment. I know we can't save everyone. But it was like a losing battle when everyone I brought in suddenly passed. It just got to me I am sorry he signed as he yawned a little just really want to go home now I feel better now, can I leave now? he asked as he seriously wanted to avoid talk about the reason of his lack of sleep

In the aftermath With Joe Green "I do when I make friends with the cook," Meredith pointed out with a shrug of her shoulders. "There is a sandwich involved so don't get yourself too worked up. But there is a nice bowl of soup too, extra veggies and chicken mixed in. Chocolate for dessert because we all deserve a little bit of sweetness from time to time. You eat most of that and I'll set you free. Until then, I am standing in front of this door." He would argue no doubt. He had done that so far but she had done well to stand her ground. She was rarely moved. That wasn't her style. Joe should know that by now --- or maybe he just hadn't been paying enough attention to her in action.
When the conversation had turned to sleep, she furrowed her brows in concern and confusion as he tripped over his tongue trying to explain why it wasn't possible. She didn't like any of the answers he tried to give. Not safe? For others? How could someone be dangerous to other people while they were unconscious?
Before she could fully tease the answer out of him, the door opened and a nurse arrived with a tray of food. She took it gratefully, giving her thanks before setting it on the moveable bed table. She wheeled it towards him and then leaned back in her space. "Bon appetite --- because you may feel better but I don't trust you to eat on your own. Call me a hardass if you want. Or worse. I guarantee you whatever you throw at me won't be half as bad as what some of the other patients do."
She waited a beat before returning back to what she was trying to play over in her mind. She decided to cut through it all and just get right to the point. "Why is your sleeping not safe for others? Do you sleepwalk, Joe?"

The food was here but the paramedic wasn't really looking forward to it. You can see this in his face. It was way too much for his eyes wasn't completely happy with it as well. He did try and take a bite, but he just couldn't deal with it. The appetite wasn't really there. It wasn't something he was making up either you seriously going to make me eat this? Trust me you wouldn't win that battle he was willing to put up a tough fight on that one.
He kept playing with the spoon, not even attempting to eat anything from it. He tried to tell her he wasn't hungry. I really can't eat this, I am trying to tell you the truth that I have no appetite. It's been like this for a while now. I just don't want to eat anything. he wasn't sure she would believe him but he wasn't lying about his eating habits. Then she suddenly spoke about his sleeping habits which he really didn't expect it
I don't know. It's really hard to explain. You only think I am crazy, right now what I am thinking I believe I am going crazy he said to her. Joe knew he couldn't tell her that he woke up with no clothes as they burnt off and he was mostly soot on him right? It made no sense. No Joe knew he had to keep that part quiet and he was never ever going to say anything at all. No matter how much she ask

In the aftermath With Joe Green "Not all of it. Some of it. People don't just pass out for no reason. You've been stressing your body out for some time now, Joe. I get it. It's hard to be in this profession --- to see and do the things we do and not forget about yourself. Why do you think there is a Meredith Fell special in the first place?" She had caught herself slacking in that department at one point and decided to do something about it. If not, the situation could have been easily reversed with her in that bed and him standing over her.
He was stubborn, she would give him that. She felt her temper prick just enough to get her arms crossing over her chest and her mouth forming a straight line. But there was something else building too. A real worry that was much more than eating or drinking. He was being plagued by something and she might be only edging it on by trying to force him into a corner. Most people, when they found themselves in such a place, tended to come out swinging. She had to be careful to push him over the edge.
She abandoned the idea of the food for now. Abandoned the notion to point out that she was the one signing his release papers because she was his doctor. Instead she let her shoulders relax, her arms falling to her sides. Then she moved to pull out a stool and sit down.
"I won't think you are crazy," she told him quietly, her voice even and soft. "Because I know that this town...it has layers to it. It has things people don't talk about all the time. So if you think you are alone, you're not. There are people here that will understand what you are going through. I am one of them." She hoped that if there was more going on that he would read between the lines and trust her enough when she said she could help.

Joe simply lied back down. He really hopes she doesn't give him the dreaded sedatives as he has been fighting sleep for a while. Until he can't anymore he bound his wrist to keep him in the house at least, but these also didn't keep him still in the house. He looked at Meredith and signed. Joe wasn't able to explain it, even though it has been a while he still couldn't explain it, but she seemed to understand it and possibly able to stop him becoming a danger to himself and potentially to others too
trust me it is crazy he stated before settling down to start talking to her I have weird dreams. That I am carrying dead bodies deep in the woods without anyone knowing. I then pile them and just sit there, while my body is in flames he kept watching incase she was freaking out about it I will then wake up in the exact same spot I was dreaming, no bodies but my clothes are no longer on my body and I am covered in dirt. But more like soot he explained and chuckled at the end this is why I am not safe to sleep here, what if it happens here too. I tried to restrain myself but it never worked and I still managed to get out of them. So what do you think? he asked and looked at her waiting to see what she does back

In the aftermath With Joe Green He seemed to concede a little. That was a start. Few people really understood how dangerous lack of sleep could be. It could ravage a person's body and mind. She could tell he was exhausted and she wanted to help him even if there was more to the story than what was on the surface. She had told him the truth when she pointed out she understood the complexities of Mystic Falls.
But still, his story threw her for a bit of a loop.
Meredith hoped that her face remained neutral. She didn't want to betray the fact that she was perplexed for fear that he would retreat even farther. She had made some inroads with him and she wasn't about to loose ground now.
She chewed on her lip for a moment. "I am not going to lie and say I have heard that one before but I do know this --- there are all kinds here, Joe. You're just one I haven't come across before but it's not crazy. I can help you. We might not know how just yet but that doesn't mean we give up." It was same approach she would take to any patient. Just because the answer was readily in her face didn't mean that she would simply walk away. That was not who she was. That was not how she was built. She hoped that Joe knew and understood that about her.
"How often do you have these dreams, Joe?" she asked softly. "How often do you find yourself in the woods?" That was a start right? It had to be often enough to scare him off closing those eyes of his but it was his story to tell.

Joe was completely worn out. He was really struggling to keep his eyes open. He knew he had to keep them open so everyone would stay safe. He was dangerous and he didn't know or understand it very much. Everything was so confusing. He has been relying on caffeine to keep him awake. Can you get me a cup of coffee? Since you kept me on this uncomfortable thing which I can understand why our patients complain about comfort now he asked as he really didn't want to go to sleep and was trying his hardest to fight it as he did br want to drop off ever.
That's tough as I have been fighting sleep. They used to be regular every two nights at least. But now I hold off sleeping until the end of the week and that's when I sleep and the nightmares are much worse. It's like I am physically killing someone, but when I wake up in the woodlands there is nothing. No body or anything. I really don't know what the heck this means. But it is scarring the crap out of me though he said to her as he looked at the ceiling as he yawned, as his body was screaming for rest and sleep now

In the aftermath With Joe Green Caffeine. He was still avoiding sleep. She wanted to suggest a nice chamomile tea but she knew that the man had his heels dug in so deep that he was practically planted in the ground at this point. She could respect that even if the professional in her was not happy about it. One thing at a time, she reflected. It was better that he trusted her enough to share what had been plaguing him. Maybe the could figure out a solution or at least meet in the middle ground.
Still, Meredith sighed, her displeasure at the idea of him caffeinating himself obvious. "I'll get you the coffee," she agreed, before lifting the phone to call someone at the desk. She was not taking her eyes off him, afraid that he might bolt. "As for the bed, I can't do anything about it --- I will take your complaint to the board however. Put a good word in for something more comfortable." They might listen to her given that she had the Fell name attached to her.
She stood there quietly listening to his plight. It sounded terrifying and honestly she didn't know what she would do if she were in his shoes. She knew one thing was for certain. Joe couldn't continue like this indefinitely. "I can see why it would terrify you. I can see why you would want to avoid sleep at all costs --- but you can't keep this up. Eventually you have to sleep..." There was a knock at the door and she opened it to take the steaming cup off coffee, thanking the nurse who delivered it in the process. She then handed it to Joe. "It sounds like a form of sleepwalking. Only it's not that simple...have you tried taking anything? Something to keep you in a dead sleep."

Joe didn't know how long he could stay awake. He was totally exhausted and it was hard for him to keep his eyes open. He didn't know if he could last the rest of the night keeping awake and go to his usual route of locking himself up to sleep so he stayed put. He could smell the coffee and lightly taking it he took a few sips and enjoyed the taste running down his throat. He really needed it as the caffeine was slowly started to work and he was getting some energy back, but he was feeling strange with fatigue hitting him much harder and fighting the caffeine
I never had issues with sleepwalking as a child. It only came around a few months ago. It's like something is trying to communicate with me. I don't know how to explain it and it seems crazy. So to answer your question, no I never took anything. It is more like a dream. But I am reacting it physically and waking up there he took another sip of his coffee if it is sleepwalking, then why are clothes gone like they are burnt away and I am covered in soot? he asked as he wanted to know, as this was the most confusing part of it all and he hoped she gave him the answer for this
I just need to stay awake for me to get home where it will be much safer if I fall asleep. I just can't do it here even though his body was having other ideas as he was finding it much harder to stay awake as every blink was getting heavier and heavier

In the aftermath With Joe Green Meredith was out of her league here and she hated it. She really wanted nothing more than to offer Joe the solution. She was used to having it. The one thing that her patient needed to hear or needed to do or take to ensure that they walked out of the hospital better for it. For Joe, he needed sleep but it wasn't that simple. Sleep came with complications that plagued him both mentally and physically. She was no stranger with disordered sleeping but there was more going on here. More than her human brain could figure out.
She had more than a sneaking suspicion that Joe was tapping into something that made Mystic Falls the town that it was --- filled to the brim with things that go bump in the night.
"Maybe you're right. Maybe something is trying to communicate with you. I wish I had answers to your question Joe but I know I am stumped. I think...well, I think you might be better off talking to someone who has knowledge of things that might reach out to talk to you." In a way, she knew that she was speaking in riddles but she didn't know how to come right out and ask just what his position on the supernatural was. She wanted to direct him towards the right people but was at a loss until she knew where he stood. "Maybe some alternative medical practitioners..." Meaning witches, he definitely needed to talk to some witches. That was the best thing for him. "I could give you a few names." She was definitely keen to point in him the direction of a knowledgeable witch.
"I am driving you home," she decided. "That way you don't have to worry about staying awake. I will get you home and if you pass out on the way, no harm, no foul. You are way beyond exhausted at this point. I don't know how you are still going."

I don't want to keep talking to people. I don't want to see others, I guess I just have to figure it out on my own he was defeated as he honestly thought a doctor could have helped him. He didn't want to go around chasing list hope and get in touch with like seven different people and be made fun of in the process. Joe didn't want that at all, as he sat up even though he felt very dizzy and the world seemed like it was spinning even though it wasn't I guess you could but I don't know I will sneak them out though he said with a long yawn
you are in danger if I fall asleep it is too risky he was trying to fight her on this. He could sleep in his car and no one would be hurt by what he did. I will sleep in my car he told her not knowing this tactic will work though. He was finding it hard to even stand straight right now as his whole body felt like it was a moving boat. He was swaying back and forth, until he moved forward and was about to fall forward as his energy was completely gone and he was out cold again

In the aftermath With Joe Green Meredith pressed her lips together to suppress the sound of frustration that was threatening to spill out of her mouth. He was really going to keep this all to himself, wasn't he? She supposed that she could understand in a way. If she were in his position, she might do the same. But she was also blessed in knowing that there were other methods of help in this town. If only he could understand that. She gave him a look, one that clearly expressed her current stance on his stance. Then she turned her back and scribbled down a name. A witch, someone she trusted. Someone who might understand what was Joe was going through more than Joe himself. She thrust the piece of paper at him. "Take it or I will resend my release papers," she told him bluntly. "I obviously can't make you go but at least I will know that you have the information should you ever change your mind. You can tell her that Meredith Fell sent you in that case." A little unspoken understanding between she and the witch --- if Meredith sent them than she was vouching for them being a good person.
He was going to fight her every step of the way and she was no longer able to hide her frustration. "If I am in danger than so is everyone else in this town, Joe. Way I see it --- its the fate of one versus the fate of many. You really want to do this alone than keep your ass awake until I drop you off at your door. You're not going to sleep in the parking lot. That's final." The woman who headed up the emergency department was starting to slip out. She rarely ever put her foot down so blatantly but she needed him to listen to her. To realize that he didn't just have to do this all on his own despite his obsession with doing so.

Joe didn't want to take paper but he also didn't want to stay in the hospital either. So he took the paper and he didn't hide the fact he wasn't happy either there I took it, but I am not promising I would go to this person though. I keep it safe since I am being blackmailed here he signed as he yawned again rubbing his eyes you want to come back to mine? Why would you do that? he was being curious. Was she trying to get his address for something sinister? Was she going to harm him? Was she going to send a hunter to his place? Joe was going to have her take him to another building as he rubbed his eyes as they are really heavy and tired
what's wrong with sleeping in the parking lot? I slept in my car many times. It's not illegal, you know. There was no need to go home where I was able to get some sleep. Just lock my doors and take the keys and bingo problem solve he suggested as he really didn't want her to see where he lived. Joe yawned more as he expect her to go against the release as he wasn't going to accept the escort back home, it was just too weird
