Jenna had a few instances where she felt pure happiness and now, was definitely one of them. Christmas was coming right up and she felt so happy. Everything was starting to look up to Jenna and now, they were sharing one big family home and that alone brought her so much happiness because it really did feel real now. They were all a big family. Currently, Jenna was helping Alaric put up the decorations and it felt so much fun. They had picked a Christmas tree together and right now, they were working together to decorate it. Jenna nearly knocked the tree right over a couple of times due to her big stomach but Alaric was there to help her whenever that happened. They currently had pizza coming on the way, so she didn't feel the need to cook or worry about food for today and it was kinda really nice, actually. All she had to worry about was making the living room look pretty and festive.
Jenna excused herself after she was done decorating the fireplace and made her way to the kitchen where the boiling water was ready for her. She prepped them both some hot chocolate with marshmallows on top to make it taste even better. "Hot coco in coming~" Jenna spoke out as she made her way to the living room again where she handed Alaric his drink. "Okay, break then we can continue decorating after we're done consuming this bad boy." Jenna said with a nod of her head following. "You're not so bad with decorations, after all. I'm proud." She took a look at the decorated living room with a pleased sigh falling from her lips. "It's so beautiful." She added a moment later, her eyes reflecting just how happy she felt. "Kinda wish they could see it too." Jenna spoke in a soft voice as she rubbed her stomach with her free hand. "But, hopefully next Christmas they'll be here with us." Jenna said with a soft smile resting on her lips, the thought making her warm inside.

It was strange to think that at the start of the year the only person that Ric had really had to take care of was himself. He and Jenna had still been going strong and he had been doing his best to be there for her and for Elena and Jeremy as well but whenever he returned to his apartment it was just him and he would be lying if he said that it hadn’t gotten quite lonely at times. That was why he had ended up staying at Jenna’s most nights and when he wasn’t with her he had spent a lot of time drinking with Damon at the Grill so that he could avoid going home to his empty apartment. That had all changed when Abby had moved in with him, finding out that he had a daughter had made him start putting her first and it had all changed again when he learned that Kyle was alive after all. Suddenly he had gone from having just one kid to think about to having two teenagers who needed him no matter how much they might try and argue that they didn’t. It had taken time but they had made it work and a few months later things had changed again. Choosing the right moment to introduce them to Jenna and tell them that she was pregnant hadn’t been easy but they had managed it and now he, Jenna and all four of the kids were finally living under the same roof and it wouldn’t be long before they would be celebrating their first Christmas together. Josie and Lizzie weren’t ready to join them just yet but next year they would be right there with them and the truth was that Ric couldn’t wait. That day he and Jenna were alone at home and they had decided to decorate one room of the house for Christmas as a surprise for the kids when they got home. The rest of the house they would decorate together but for now it was just him and Jenna decorating with pizza on the way and the truth was that he was enjoying it. As Jenna left him to it while she went to make the hot chocolate, Ric felt a smile work its way across his face as she returned with their drinks. “It’s like you read my mind. Thanks,” he grinned, taking the mug from her and blowing on the contents before taking a sip. There was a time when he would have asked for something stronger but he was trying to be better and he was keeping his drinking to a minimum given that he had people who counted on him now and if he was honest he felt better for it. He still had a few drinks now and then but nowhere near as often as he had done when they met. “I’m glad you approve, you’re not so bad yourself,” he chuckled, letting the mug warm his hands as he took another sip before sitting down on the sofa and indicating for Jenna to join him. “It really is. I’ve always said we make a good team,” he admitted as he looked over what they had done so far. “Do you think the kids will like it?” he asked, hoping that the answer to that question was going to be yes. “They will be,” he nodded, a smile working its way across his face as he looked over at Jenna. “They’re due just a couple of days after the New Year, we can always leave the decorations up a little longer so they’re here when we bring them home if you like.”JENNA SALTZMAN

Jenna let out a chuckle before she shrugged her shoulders in a cocky manner. "It's kinda a Siphoner thing." She joked, her tone filled with humor. After his mug was in his hand, she took it upon herself to start blowing on the surface to cool the drink down the best she could before she took an experimental sip and found himself humming, pleasantly content with the taste that slid down her tongue with ease, offering warmth to her insides after a cold and chilly day.
Jenna laughed when he returned the compliment back to her. "Right? I also knew I should've been a Christmas decorator for a job." Jenna tsked and shook her head. "Totally missed my chance." She joked with a soft chuckle following. She had no problem at all making her way toward Alaric to sit down beside him, leaning back to get comfortable before she rose her drink up to her lips to take yet another sip. "We really do." Jenna agreed with a soft smile resting on her lips. "It's pretty awesome, actually." Now they felt festive and ready to take on the world with so much ease. "Oh definitely. What's not to like about Christmas decorations?" Jenna replied with so much confidence lacing her tone because it looked really beautiful, so really, why wouldn't they? "I'd really like that. I want them to open their eyes and see the decorations." Jenna said with a soft smile touching her lips. "Plus, gives us another reason not to take the decorations early." She joked with a chuckle following. "I'd literally latch onto any reason not to do any tidying up." She continued to joke, letting her head rest on Alaric's shoulder now. "This is perfect. No, more than perfect." Jenna whispered, her voice genuine and filled with so many emotions.

Ric had grown so used to being on his own so the truth was that he had almost forgotten what it was like to have a real family Christmas. After losing Isobel the days had seemed to merge together and nothing had seemed important to him aside from finding the vampire that was responsible for killing his wife. It was only after he moved to Mystic Falls that he’d slowly started feeling more like himself again and he had thought about going home to see his parents over Christmas rather than spending it alone but something had always held him back. Now he had the perfect opportunity to have a family Christmas without feeling like he would be intruding on anyone else’s given that he, Jenna and the kids had all moved in together and were soon going to be enjoying their first Christmas together. It was a shame that the twins weren’t going to be able to share it with them but in a year they would be and that at least was something that Ric was looking forward to. “I guess I’d better be careful what I think about then,” Ric chuckled, his words not serious at all. He knew that Jenna couldn’t actually read his mind but she knew him well enough by now to read him like an open book anyway so it was still fun to tease her about it nonetheless. They were getting one room of the house decorated that day but the rest they were saving for when the kids could get involved as well and if he was honest he was really enjoying it. “Definitely. You would have made a fortune,” he chuckled. In all honesty Jenna would have been great at anything but she really did seem to have a knack for this. “I skipped Christmas for a few years after Isobel left but you’re reminding me why I always used to love it,” he admitted. He hadn’t felt much like celebrating after his whole world was ripped apart but now he had the perfect excuse to not to mention he had plenty of people around that he loved that he wanted to celebrate it with as well. “Who said we should be the ones to do the tidying up anyway? I thought that was what we had the kids for,” he grinned, turning his head and pressing a gentle kiss to the top of Jenna’s. He knew that they would never leave it all to the kids but they didn’t have to do any of this alone anyway, they had four teenagers on hand to help out and he knew that it was going to make it that much easier when the twins were born. “Just as it should be for our first Christmas together,” he said as he let his head rest against Jenna’s and looked at everything they had done. Jenna let out a chuckle at Alaric's words when he told her that he'd better be careful about what goes through his mind. She nodded her head and pointed at him. "Yep." She said with a soft smile resting on her lips. "Just know I'm always reading your mind," she tapped her mind shortly after, her lips turning into a gentle smile. "Christmas is my favorite holiday, actually. It's so... cold, but it's still so homey. Just like thanksgiving." She said with a gentle smile on her lips. She always liked those holidays for the fact that they brought everyone together. "I'm happy to hear that and know that from now, no more skipping holidays. We're celebrating each and every single one." Who said we should be the ones to do the tidying up anyway?
I thought that was what we had the kids for, Just as it should be for our first Christmas together.
Jenna let out a gasp at Alaric's words. "You're totally right!" She breathed out with a chuckle following. "That totally slipped from my mind." She grinned and looked around as if to look for the kids to tidy up but her attention turned back to Alaric not that long after, her expression still quite soft. "Absolutely," she said with a soft smile on her lips as she looked at all the hard-work they had poured to make their home look perfect for Christmas. "Absolutely perfect," she breathed out with a content sigh falling from her lips shortly after.

“What am I thinking about now?” Ric asked, an amused smile forming on his face as he looked over at Jenna. He knew that she couldn’t actually read his mind but the truth was that he wouldn’t be surprised if there was some kind of a spell that could let her do just that if she really wanted to. He still couldn’t resist teasing her though and he was pretty sure that she would realise that. “Ever since moving here it has become mine again too. I always used to hate spending Christmas on my own but here it is completely different.” He had made friends who had become family to him during his time in Mystic Falls and being surrounded by so many people that he cared about really had made Christmas special. “Deal,” Ric said, leaning down to seal it with a kiss as he agreed that they were going to celebrate every Christmas from now on. It hadn’t been the same while he was on his own but now he and Jenna and the kids to think about and he knew that he wanted each one to be special. “They have their uses,” Ric grinned, his words purely teasing as his eyes met Jenna’s. He knew that they wouldn’t make the kids clean everything up anyway but that didn’t mean that he couldn’t still remind Jenna that they potentially had help on hand whenever they needed it. Looking around them as Jenna said that it was absolutely perfect, a genuine smile formed on Ric’s face before he wrapped his arms around Jenna and kissed the top of her head gently. “I couldn’t agree more.”JENNA SALTZMAN
