Jenna started taking notice of her big stomach. Now, don't get her wrong. Pregnant mothers have big stomachs, but hers looked even bigger and that caused her to feel concerned. She decided it was time for her to figure out their gender. She never really thought about the possibility of her having twins. It just never crossed her mind, really.
During her pregnancy, she was getting rather snappy and fussy about every little thing. She also craved the weirdest food combinations. It still felt so weird to see her big stomach in the mirror, it just made her stare in wonder, wondering how her body was even handling all of this. There was a baby growing her stomach. How? Jenna struggled to get her pants on, huffing in annoyance before she put on her shirt, the fabric stretching slightly to fit her stomach despite it being the biggest size there is.
Of course, she didn't go to the hospital on her own. Alaric was there and she felt her nerves ignite when it was their turn to enter the doctor's office. When she expressed her concerns, the doctor told her they were going to do an ultrasound. She lifted her shirt to show her stomach, frowning uncomfortably at the cold substance that was slathered over her bare stomach before the device pressed itself against her stomach. She held her breath in without knowing as her eyes turned to the screen. "Huh." The doctor whispered, causing Jenna's eyes to drift to her. "What? What is it?" Jenna asked, feeling her heart lurch to her throat. "No, no, don't look so concerned. You mentioned wanting to check the baby's gender? Well, it's not just one baby. They are two beautiful and healthy baby girls. One of them certainly looks like their dad and the other looks like you." Jenna's eyes widened when she heard those words fall from the doctor's lips. 'Twins?" She repeated in disbelief. "You can tell?" The doctor nodded her head with a small smile as she gestured to the first head then the second. "Wow..." Jenna breathed out, staring at the screen with wide eyes. "Twins, Ric. We're gonna have twins." Jenna couldn't believe it. She almost wanted to pinch herself due to how incredible it all sounded.

Things had changed so much over the last year and there were times when Ric had a hard time believing just how different his life was now but the truth was that he wouldn’t have it any other way. He hadn’t known that he had children until he got the call to say that Helen had died and that she had named him as Kyle and Abby’s legal guardian if anything happened to her and for a while he had thought that Kyle had died in the attack too. Now he knew the truth, that his son had been turned into a werewolf and held captive for some of the time he was missing, and he knew that he would do whatever he needed to in order to protect his family. There was a time when his family had only consisted of Jenna, Elena, Jeremy and the friends that he had made during his time in Mystic Falls but now it included the kids as well. It was still a little surreal to think that their family was going to grow even more soon enough now that Jenna was pregnant. They hadn’t planned it and he would be lying if he said that it wasn’t a shock at first but they had talked about it and this was something that they both wanted so he knew that they were going to make it work not just for themselves but for all of the kids as well. Ric hadn’t had the chance to be there to watch Kyle and Abby grow up but this time was going to be different. He and Jenna were doing this together and even though he was nervous about them having a baby he was looking forward to it as well and he knew that whatever happened they would figure it out together. He had told Jenna right from the start that he would be there for her through everything and that was exactly what he was doing. He knew that there were some guys who probably wouldn’t want to be there for every appointment but Ric did, he wanted to do this right so he hadn’t hesitated in telling Jenna that he would go with her to the appointment that day. Taking Jenna’s hand in his as the doctor performed the ultrasound, Ric’s expression turned to one of concern at the doctor’s reaction. Before he could even ask Jenna was doing just that and the next words out of the doctor’s mouth were enough to make Ric’s mouth fall open. “You’re sure?” he asked the doctor, not quite able to wrap his head around what they had just been told. They already had four kids to look after and the thought of adding another to the mix had been scary enough but they weren’t just having one baby, they were having twins and suddenly Ric felt even more glad than ever that they were going to have so much support from their family and friends. “Not just twins, two girls,” Ric said, shock slowly turning to joy as he felt a smile work its way across his face as he looked over at Jenna. “Our girls,” he breathed as his gaze drifted to the monitor. “It’s incredible.”JENNA SALTZMAN

Baby girls. Two. It all felt so strange. Knowing you had not one, but two lives blooming within you. Her gaze was focused solely on the monitor, watching the babies move within her. It was a sight to behold and Jenna didn't realize she was holding her breath until the urge to breathe became apparent and only then did she release a stuttering breath. She seemed at a loss for words, her lips parted but there was nothing coming out as tears soon filled her vision, acting as a blurry screen until she blinked her tears away.
"Well..." She sniffed as she wiped her tears away completely. "We're definitely going to need another name." Jenna said with a chuckle following as her gaze drifted from the screen to settle on Alaric. "Two..." She breathed out, clearly still stuck in a state of disbelief. "No wonder I'm so big." Jenna chuckled under her breath. "Thought Lizzie was taking up all the space. That she was a big girl, but she's actually sharing it in there with her sister." Jenna's voice was soft as she spoke, her smile still present on her lips.

It had taken Ric a while to get his head around the fact that he and Jenna were having one baby but to learn that they were having two was enough to stun him once more. They already had four kids between them and now they were about to take that up to six so they were going to be well and truly outnumbered but the truth was that he didn’t mind that too much. Kyle, Abby, Elena and Jeremy were all good kids and he knew that they would all help out with the babies as well. Thankfully they had an incredible support system around them and he and Jenna made a great team so he knew that they would figure it out together the same way that they did everything else. Watching their babies on the monitor was enough to bring tears to Ric’s eyes and he quickly blinked them away. He hadn’t had the chance to go through any of this when Helen was expecting Kyle and Abby, in fact he hadn’t even known that they existed until they were already teenagers, so he was glad that he had the chance to be there with Jenna for everything this time around. “You’re right. I don’t think Joshua is going to work,” he chuckled as he gave Jenna’s hand a gentle squeeze. “It’s incredible,” he nodded, still trying to get his head around it himself. “Since we can’t use the other name we were thinking of why don’t we go for something similar?” he suggested. “How about Elizabeth and Josephine – Lizzie and Josie?”JENNA SALTZMAN

Jenna chuckled and nodded her head a few times. Yeah, Joshua was definitely not going to work with the two girls. "She'll hate us if we call her Joshua." She joked with a chuckle following. She really loved the name Elizabeth, Lizzie for short just in case the little one thought that it was too old-fashioned. Though she wondered what she would name the other baby girl. Emily? Hm. No. Hannah? Probably not... Jenna was lost in her thoughts until Alaric's voice brought her back to the current moment and soon enough, there was a soft smile appearing on her lips as she squeezed Alaric's hand. "It really is." It was such a magical feeling that she really couldn't wrap her head around. Jenna felt so... privileged and knew that taking this moment for granted would be rude of her. She was never going to take any of it for granted. She planned on making sure her daughters lived a healthy and happy life with her. She knew that Alaric was going to do everything in his might to make sure that happens too.
Jenna's attention found Alaric once again, her head tilted slightly to the side as he watched Alaric. Her lips formed a small 'o' at his suggestion before she nodded her head, liking the idea a lot. She wanted something that fit really well with Lizzie and what Alaric suggested with the best so far. "I really, really like Josie." Jenna agreed almost immediately with a soft smile on her lips. "It can either be Josephine or Josette works, honestly." Jenna felt a smile touch her lips as her gaze settled on the monitor again. "Lizzie and Josie... I love it. I love them."

Ric had thought that he knew what they were letting themselves in for when they’d found out that Jenna was pregnant but the last thing he had expected was to find out that they were having twins. They had already settled on two names that they liked, one for a boy and one for a girl, but now they knew that they were having two girls they were going to have to rethink things. They were also going to have to find a way to tell the four kids they already had between them that they were going to be adding two more kids to the mix rather than just one. How they were going to take that he wasn’t sure but it was definitely going to make things a lot more interesting to say the least. “Yeah, we can’t do that to her,” Ric chuckled. “That wouldn’t exactly get us off on the right foot with her.” He knew that some people liked to go for unusual names for their kids but Ric was much more traditional than that and he knew that Jenna was too so that just wasn’t an option. “We’re definitely going to have our hands full,” he grinned. Thankfully they were going to have plenty of support around them so he knew that they would figure it out. Finding another name when there were so many possibilities wasn’t going to be easy, especially not when they hadn’t even met their two little girls yet, but they had liked the name Joshua for a boy so Ric knew that their best option was probably to play it safe and go for something along those lines. “I do too,” he admitted, surprised at just how well it seemed to fit with the name Lizzie. “I actually like Josette more, it’s different,” he added, knowing that it perhaps fit better than his original suggestion. “What do you think?” He had a feeling that he already knew what her answer was going to be given that she had been the one to suggest Josette in the first place but he was still interested to see what she thought. “Same here. I love you too,” he said, a smile working its way across his face as he leaned forward and pressed his lips against hers. JENNA SALTZMAN

Yeah, we can’t do that to her, That wouldn’t exactly get us off on the right foot with her. We’re definitely going to have our hands full,
Jenna let out a laugh at Alaric's words. "You're not wrong there, baby. We definitely can't do that to the poor soul." She found herself laughing again at the thought of calling her daughter Joshua. It definitely didn't stick well with her daughter and it was the thing that caused her to laugh so much. "We'll do well. I know we will." Jenna said with a soft smile resting on her lips.
With the name Lizzie picked, she definitely a lot happier. It fit her so well and now, it was time to pick the name for her second daughter and when Alaric picked Josette, she realized just how compatible they were because she definitely liked the name Josette. "Okay. Josie and Lizzie. I love that." Jenna said with a soft smile on her lips. "Now I'm really excited to meet them." She said with a soft smile on her lips. "Cheesy." She teased. "I love you more." She was quick to say as she cupped his cheeks and returned the kiss with one of her own. "Josie, Lizzie, Jenna, and Alaric. It fits well." She smiled softly. "We also definitely need to get a camera. We're gonna take so many pictures of them. I want to have pictures of them all around the house." Jenna said with a soft smile on her lips.

Before they had known that they were having twins, Ric and Jenna had already started thinking about names. He had heard stories before about parents settling on a name only to end up changing their minds when they actually met their baby and he knew that there was a chance that that might end up happening for the two of them but at least they had some options as a starting point. They had picked out one name for a girl and one for a boy and when they thought that they were having just one baby it had seemed so much easier. Now they knew that they were having twins, twin girls at that, and now he felt like they were perhaps in over their heads but thankfully they had plenty of help considering they had four teenagers living with them already. They were going to have plenty of people they could rely on when they had to work or needed a break and they had plenty of friends that they could count on too. Ever since moving to Mystic Falls Ric had found so much more than he had ever thought that he would find and it meant the world to him. “She would never forgive us.” It was a somewhat amusing thought but Ric knew that he wanted to be a good dad, not the kind of dad that a kid couldn’t wait to get away from, so he knew that finding the right name was going to be the first step. “We have plenty of people around to tell us if we’re screwing up anyway,” he chuckled, knowing that their friends and family wouldn’t hold back from telling them if they were doing something wrong. It made him feel a lot better knowing that they had managed to find one name already and soon enough the second came to them as well and the truth was that he couldn’t be happier with the names they had picked out. “I do too,” he nodded. He knew that there were some parents who didn’t like it when names were shortened from what they had chosen but the truth was that he didn’t mind one bit and he hoped that the girls would like them as they got older too. “It won’t be long now,” he grinned as Jenna said that she was eager to meet the twins. He was too and he couldn’t wait for the kids to meet them too. “It does. I’m sure the kids are going to love them.” It was going to be a little strange having four teenagers and two babies in the house but he knew that they would figure it out together. “We will. It will be good to have photos of the whole family around since all of the kids will be heading off to college soon,” he added, knowing that he wanted the girls to know who the rest of the family were even if they weren’t able to see them every day.
