the sun, the moon, the truth. What if we can’t fix it?
That was the kind of question he was trying hard not to think of right now. He was quiet for a little bit, the edges of his lips brought down in a small frown. But his expression turned back into something optimistic so Hayden wouldn't lose hope. "We'll cross that bridge when we get to it, yeah?" We. He was determined not to leave her side because he knew just how scary it could be and he wanted to be there for her like Scott had been there for him through it all. He wasn't about to leave Hayden to deal with it all on her own. It just sounded so cruel.
Maybe but I didn’t tell anyone how bad it was. None of the kids at school would have known how to handle it when we were that age anyway,
Liam let out a smal lsigh as he nodded his head in agreement because Hayden was definitely not wrong there. They wouldn't have known how to deal with the whole thing. Wouldn't even know how to start. It sounded farfetched for someone to be going through such a pain at such a young age, too. Liam still felt really guilty for not having seen it and for being so wrapped up in himself. "You're right." He nodded with a small sigh following. Though the mood lit up a little when he started joking around. He chuckled when Hayden his shoulder in a rather playful manner. He reached up jokingly to start rubbing the spot. "Ow." He complained, pretending to be so hurt because of it but he was just messing around.
Liam found himself nodding along in agreement with Hayden's words. "It's really good and addictive." He agreed, taking another bite of his burger shortly after, chewing with his mouth closed as his blue eyes did a quick scan of his surroundings to make sure they were safe. Liam chuckled when Hayden offered her drink for him as well. "Okay." He reached out to take her drink and slowly, he took a sip, taking a moment to taste it before his expression lit up. "That's really good, actually." He offered her back her drink. "Right? I have no idea what you have in it but I really like it." Liam said with a small smile on his lips, feeling accomplished and full as well.
"Would you like me to walk you back home? I kinda have nothing to do." Lie. He should be studying but he currently felt no inspiration to do so. He just wanted to spend time with Hayden and he also wanted to make sure she got home safely.

Hayden hadn’t known what had happened to her when she had woken up in the woods outside of Mystic Falls after being taken from her home in Beacon Hills but Liam had helped put the pieces together for her. He had helped fill her in on the supernatural world and ever since then he had been there with her every step of the way. Hayden knew that she was lucky to have him looking out for her but the truth was that accepting help wasn’t something that she had ever been good at nor was she overly comfortable with it. She was trying, though, because she knew that she would regret it if she ended up pushing Liam away again. She had done that once before after he’d punched her when they were younger and it had taken her a long time to accept that it was just an accident. She knew that she shouldn’t have held a grudge for so long but that was something that she was pretty good at it seemed although she knew better than to fall into that trap again. Things were going to be different this time, they had to be, and she was doing her best not to fall into old habits again. “Alright, deal,” Hayden nodded. The truth was she had no idea whether they would be able to fix what had been done to her or not but she knew that she was different to Liam despite the fact that she was a werewolf too and that worried her. She didn’t have the same abilities that Liam did, or if she did they hadn’t revealed themselves completely yet, but she could tell that Liam was concerned despite his best efforts to try and hide it. They would figure it out sooner or later though, they had to, and she knew that she just needed to hang in there until they found out who was behind all of the disappearances. There were a few of them going on at the moment from what she had heard so she knew that it had to be just a matter of time before they found out who was responsible for it all. As he pretended to be hurt when she hit his shoulder, Hayden couldn’t help but laugh. “Don’t tell me the werewolf can’t take a gentle hit like that,” she teased. “I thought you were tougher than that.” Liam always had been, he was one of the strongest people she knew but it was still fun to tease him about it nonetheless. “You got that right,” she nodded as she took a bite of her burger. The food really was amazing at the Grill and she had a feeling that she was going to end up eating there a lot considering that she and Val weren’t planning on going anywhere. As he said that her drink was really good, Hayden couldn’t stop a smile from working its way across her face. “I knew you’d like it,” she admitted before sliding the drink back towards her once more and taking another sip. It wasn’t long before they had finished their food and a half smile tugged at the corner of Hayden’s mouth. “Are you sure? I don’t want to put you out.”LIAM DUNBAR

the sun, the moon, the truth. Don’t tell me the werewolf can’t take a gentle hit like that,
Liam let out a chuckle at Hayden's words. "You're a wolf now, your new gentle is tough for some. Look, it's all bruised now." Liam showed his arm which lacked a bruise, he was just messing about. He didn't really mean anything of what he had just said because it didn't hurt in the slightest, he was just messing about. It was fun to joke around with Hayden like that. It was fun to know more about her. It was nice to be able to relax and not care about their past or what they had done to each other. It really felt like they had grown past that now.
I thought you were tougher than that.
Liam's lips spread into a soft smile. "You thought I was tough?" He asked in a teasing manner before he cleared his throat and pretended to buff his chest out. "Oh yeah, I'm definitely tough. I was just messing around. I didn't feel a thing." He continued buffing his chest to appear bigger than he was. It made him feel happy to know that she thought of him that way.
After tasting the food and the drinks they had, he was more or less quite happy. The food was delicious. He could see himself ordering here more often and if Hayden was free whenever he'd come here, then he'd take her along with him because he really did enjoy having her around. It was fun to talk like this. It passed the time to the point where he didn't want to go home, but he also didn't want Hayden to go home alone, so he wanted to at least walk her home. It'd also give him an excuse to hang around with her a little more.
"What? No, no. I'm sure. I wanna do this." Liam said with a small smile resting on his lips. With the food now consumed and the drink done, he pushed himself up. "Let's go." Liam gestured with his head for Hayden to leave with him as he made his way to the door to head out. He waited for Hayden to lead the way for them. "So, um." Liam looked over at her and stared a bit at her because she was really pretty. "I know this question is... weird and I know I'm gonna hate myself later for making a fool out of myself but are you like..." Liam licked his lips nervously as he wrung his hands to ease his nerves a bit. "Are you seeing anyone? That's what I meant to ask you." Liam finally asked, his eyes settling on her once more.

Hayden had spent such a long time believing that she hated Liam for everything that had happened with her family after that day in sixth grade but now that they had cleared the air between them it felt like a weight had been lifted. She knew that it wouldn’t stop her being competitive, after all that was in her nature, but was no longer wanted to get back at him for what had happened. She knew that the trick she’d played with the chewing gum was immature and silly but at the time it had made her feel a little better. Now being around Liam was what made her feel better and there were still times when she found herself wondering why he had decided to spend so much time trying to help her after she had been so awful to him but now she knew that he was genuinely a good guy and when she looked back on some of the things she had done to torment him it made her feel that much worse. She knew that she couldn’t take any of it back but things were better between them now and if she was honest Liam had become the person that she trusted the most in the town and that wasn’t something that she had ever thought would happen. “I always knew you were a wimp,” Hayden teased, her tone light as she rolled her eyes playfully. She knew that Liam was only messing around and it had to be said that it was good to be able to joke around with him like that after the two of them were at odds for so long. The banter that passed between them now was always in good fun rather than to be hurtful like it had been in the past and she knew that she didn’t want to go back to the way things were. As Liam spoke again, Hayden couldn’t help but laugh and she patted his shoulder in amusement. “You keep telling yourself that,” she grinned. It didn’t take the two of them long to get through their food and her smile returned as Liam said that he was sure he wanted to walk her home. “Thanks,” she said, still slightly taken aback by it all as she paid for her meal. Heading outside, Hayden looked over at Liam as he started to speak again and was surprised when he seemed to struggle with the words. “Whatever it is you want to say, you should just say it,” she said, no sense of annoyance in her tone the way there would have been before the two of them cleared the air. His next words were enough to surprise her once more and it took her a moment to register them before she felt an amused half smile tug at the corner of her mouth. “No, I’m not,” she said as her eyes met his. “Are you? Or is this your way of asking me out?”LIAM DUNBAR

the sun, the moon, the truth. I always knew you were a wimp, You keep telling yourself that
Liam gasped and feigned offense. "Hey! You take that back right now.' He pointed his finger at her, pretending to be all "angry" when in actuality, he was far from it and what gave that away was the smile that formed on his lips shortly after saying that. "You know, I came out here to have a good time but here you are, attacking me right now. I don't think I deserve that." Liam shook his head, feigning a sad expression. "I'm going to tell Scott on you." He joked with a chuckle following.
Whatever it is you want to say, you should just say it,
Liam bit down on his bottom lip for a moment as he wrung his hands. "Sometimes I say things without really thinking and I really don't wanna do that right now." Liam said with a small chuckle following and soon enough, he was blurting the question he had been trying to ask for quite some time now and it felt like a huge weight had been lifted off his shoulders which was actually really nice but then, he felt really anxious because he didn't know what the answer would be. Would it be something that he wanted to hear or would it be something he didn't want to hear?
No, I’m not, Are you? Or is this your way of asking me out?
Liam felt a new wave of relief wash over him when he heard that Hayden wasn't really seeing anyone right now which made him feel incredibly relieved as a smile formed on his lips shortly after. "That's.. That's good." He mumbled, his smile still there before he nearly choked on nothing when he heard Hayden's question. His lips parted and closed a few times like a gaping fish in the water. "I- No! I mean yes! Yes." Liam nodded his head a few times. God, when did he turn into such a nervous mess? He had no idea. "Yes. I would like to take you out. In a not so serial killer way but like... a date. If you want." Liam was quick to add the last part because he didn't want her to feel like she didn't have the option to say no. She always did.

It wasn’t too long ago that Hayden would have done anything it took in order to get back at Liam but now the truth was that they couldn’t be further from that. They had managed to put their differences aside and after that had happened they had actually grown quite close. Val had always urged her to give him a chance but Hayden hadn’t known if she was actually ready for that until Liam helped her figure out what had been done to her. That day had changed everything and she would be lying if she said that she didn’t find herself looking forward to being able to spend time with him. It had been stressful leading up to the full moon but Liam had helped her through it and she knew that she wouldn’t have been able to do any of it without him or Scott. Neither of them had had to help her but they had still gone out of their way to do so and she knew that she was always going to be grateful to them for that. That was why she and Liam had decided to grab something to eat in the first place but if she was honest it was starting to feel like it might just be more than that. She knew that it was crazy, after all she had tried to tell herself that she had let go of the crush she’d had on Liam a long time ago but this time things were different. This was a fresh start for both of them and Hayden knew that she wanted to take it. “Is that so? What’s the big, bad Alpha going to do about it?” Hayden teased with a laugh. “Suck it up, Dunbar,” she added, a playful smile working its way across his face as her eyes met his. She knew that he was only joking and she was as well. There was a time when she hadn’t thought that they would ever be like this around each other but now she knew that she wouldn’t have it any other way. Liam’s next words were enough to make a thoughtful expression work its way across Hayden’s face. This wasn’t a side of Liam that she was used to seeing, she knew that he sometimes stumbled over his words but this was something different. She wanted him to open up but he seemed to be taking this quite seriously which wasn’t like him. “It is?” she asked as he said that it was good that she wasn’t seeing anyone right now. The truth was that she and Liam had found each other so quickly again and she had come to enjoy spending time with him so no other guys had caught her eye whatsoever. Her next question brought another unusual reaction forth and Hayden was about to say something else when he said that he was trying to ask her out. “I’d really like that,” she admitted with a smile, knowing that now wasn’t the time to tease him the way she normally did. the sun, the moon, the truth. Is that so? What’s the big, bad Alpha going to do about it? Suck it up, Dunbar,
Liam paused at her question and started to think real hard but he found himself coming up empty. "Probably... nothing." He said with a chuckle following, his hand drifting to the back of his head to scratch it lightly. "Okay, fine. Fine. You win." He said with a chuckle following. He never thought the day would come where he would find himself talking to Hayden like this. They were joking around as if they hadn't spent the last few years having that stupid feud between the two of them. If he had manned up and apologized back then, he can't imagine how different things would've been between the two of them.
Liam felt his heart jump in his throat as he waited for Hayden's answer. He wasn't so sure where that bravery had come from but he didn't regret it in the slightest. He had been crushing on Hayden for such a long time now but with how stubborn he had been, he couldn't really do anything about it. Until now, that is. Now, she knew how he felt and knew that he was interested in taking her out on a date. It was all he waited right now. He wanted to show her a good time and make her realize that he was serious about being there for her. About making it up to her. It was all he wanted, really.
Liam felt a relieved smile form on his lips when he heard Hayden agree to take her out on a date. His face lit up almost immediately as he felt his heart jump but this time, it wasn't due to nerves. It was due to him being genuinely happy to hear that. "Okay, cool." He, of course, had to play it cool and not show just how excited he was. "That's really cool. Um." Liam rubbed his hands together as he shifted weight from one foot to the other. "I guess that's settled them." He said with a small smile on his lips as he shifted weight from one foot to the other. "How about, uh, tomorrow? At seven?" He had absolutely no idea what to do or where to take her, but he figured he'd find an answer to that later.

Hayden was good at holding grudges but letting go of them was a completely different matter. That wasn’t something that she was used to but she had tried to do that with Liam and she was glad that they had been able to put the past behind them. When she was younger she’d had a crush on him, something that hadn’t gone away like she had thought that it had done, and ever since she’d moved to Mystic Falls he had proved to be a good friend to her. She knew that she wouldn’t have been able to get through her first full moon without Liam and Scott by her side and she would be lying if she said that she wasn’t nervous about the next one but she knew that she now just needed to take it one step at a time. This wasn’t how she had thought that her life would turn out but Liam and Scott were both proof that it was possible to live with this and she knew that she had to keep reminding herself of that. She hadn’t been thrown into the supernatural world in the same way that the two of them had, she was apparently the crazy science experiment and still had no idea who was responsible for doing this to her but at the end of the day she couldn’t change it so all she could do was figure out how to get used to it. “Looks like some things never change,” she said, a smile working its way across her face as she looked over at Liam. She had known that Scott wouldn’t do anything about it but it was just a bit of fun nonetheless. Things were much better between the two of them now and they had finally managed to put their old feud behind them and now it was all strictly good fun. Hayden had known that things were changing between the two of them but she hadn’t for one moment thought that it would turn out that her crush was anything more than a one sided thing. She hadn’t expected Liam to ask her out but even so there was only one answer that she would have given him. As she agreed the smile on his face said one thing but his words said another and for a moment she was confused. “You could sound a little more excited about it,” she said, an uncertain expression working its way across her face as her eyes met his and she tried to figure out how he was really feeling about it. He was so nervous before but now she wasn’t so sure. “That sounds great.”LIAM DUNBAR

the sun, the moon, the truth. You could sound a little more excited about it,
Liam's eyes widened at Hayden's words and in an instant, he turned to look at her. "No," shit. Liam, you goddamn idiot. "I meant no, I really am excited about it! I just didn't want to sound like an overly excited idiot. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you feel like I didn't want it. That really wasn't my intention because trust me, Hayden, I really do want to take you out on a date." Liam explained hurriedly, wanting to fix the mess he created without meaning to. "I guess I just wanted to seem... cool about it. Even though I've actually never been on a date before," okay, he was oversharing. Really oversharing. He paused and looked at Hayden slowly before he cleared his throat and looked away, pretending as though he had planned on oversharing like that. Totally planned on it.
"Okay, great! I'll pick you up at seven, then." Liam said with a smile resting on his lips when she agreed on meeting up around seven PM. He was probably going to scream about it to Scott later on because he really did almost screw it all up and also because he had no idea where to take Hayden because he wanted to impress her a bit. Actually, scratch that. He really wanted to impress Hayden. He wanted to make sure she would never regret saying yes to his date. "No need for anything like, uh, formal? Totally casual." Liam figured that was what people said before their dates, right? He hoped so.

Hayden had liked Liam for a lot longer than she cared to admit but she had spent most of that time hating him for what had happened to her family. She had always known deep down that it wasn’t his fault, after all he hadn’t been the one to cause the accident that had claimed the lives of her parents and her twin, but it had been so much easier having someone to blame than it had been admitting that it was just a freak accident. She had held onto that anger for such a long time and she regretted that now. She had made life difficult for Liam and he definitely hadn’t deserved that but she had learned her lesson now and she was trying to make it up to him for that. She hadn’t for one moment thought that the way she felt about him would be anything other than one sided but then he had asked her out and she had started to realise that perhaps she had been wrong about more than she had thought after all. “You didn’t want to sound overly excited so instead you sounded like you weren’t really bothered either way, got it,” Hayden said, a somewhat amused smile forming on her face now that she knew that this was something that Liam really did want after all. For a moment she had worried that it wasn’t something that he had wanted but she believed him when he said that it was something that he really wanted so she knew better than to give him a hard time about it. “If it helps I haven’t been on a date before either,” she admitted. This was all new to her and she would be lying if she said that she wasn’t nervous about it but she knew that she wanted to make the most of it anyway and she hoped that it would be something that she would remember. “Sounds great,” she said, reaching across and giving his hand a light squeeze. As he spoke again her expression turned thoughtful for a moment. “Alright. Where are we going?” she asked, not sure whether she was allowed to know that information just yet or whether Liam would rather keep it as a surprise. LIAM DUNBAR

the sun, the moon, the truth. Liam looked sheepish for a moment because he never thought his silly attempt to look cool or to sound cool would end up making Hayden feel like he wasn't into the whole idea of going on a date with her. Because he was! He was more than excited to take her out and then maybe, maybe ask her if she wants to be his girlfriend. Guaranteed, he'd never dated anyone before but for Hayden's sake, he was more than willing to try and make things work between the two of them.
He had talked to Scott more than once about anchors and how they get chosen but he had a feeling that Hayden had a huge potential to be his anchor. Being with her calms him down and that was more than enough for him to realize it. That she really was his anchor. He looked over at her for a moment and realized belatedly that he wasn't saying anything and just staring at her. "Hey, look, I never said I'm good at displaying my emotions correctly." He held his hands in mock surrender before his lips stretched to form a genuine smile. "But don't worry. I won't try to be cool anymore." He promised with a nod of his head because it definitely didn't go well.
His eyes widened briefly at her question before he gulped past the cotton ball in his throat. "It's a secret! You'll see. It'll be totally mindblowing." Oh god. Why did he just say that? Why did he set the expectations bar too high up for himself? God, he was such an idiot. "Just trust me, 'kay?" He added a moment later, ignoring the rapid beating of his heart.

It had taken Hayden by surprise when Liam had asked her out but what had shocked her more was how he could go from asking her out one moment to not seeming bothered either way the next. It was confusing to say the least and Hayden couldn’t deny that she hated not knowing where she stood with Liam. He had been there for her through everything ever since she’d arrived in Mystic Falls and he had promised her time and time again that that wasn’t going to change but something felt off right now and she couldn’t quite figure out what that was. Hayden knew that she wouldn’t have been able to get through any of this without him, he had helped her understand what had been done to her even if they still weren’t sure who was behind it and he had helped her learn more about control than she ever would have been able to imagine on her own. It wasn’t that long ago that she had been telling herself that she hated him for taking her parents and brother away from her but they had finally called a truce and it was one of the best things that she had done in a long time. Thankfully it seemed that Liam was just trying to pretend to be cool and for that she really was relieved but she still couldn’t resist the urge to tease him about it. “That makes two of us,” she admitted before laughing as he said that he wouldn’t try to be cool anymore and taking one of the hands that he was holding up in surrender in hers. “If you tried to be any cooler you’d be ice cold. You’re lucky I like you,” she warned playfully. She wasn’t great at showing emotion either but she knew that even she could do any better than that. Liam had seemed nervous about asking her out, though, so she knew better than to give him too much of a hard time as she knew that it couldn’t have been easy. She hadn’t exactly made things easy between them ever since her family died but she knew now that it wasn’t Liam’s fault and in time she hoped that he would see that he didn’t have to worry about hiding anything from her. As he spoke again she felt a smile form on her face. “Alright, I’m looking forward to it,” she admitted, already feeling the anticipation starting to build. As he asked her to trust him, Hayden nodded. “I do,” she assured him, knowing that he had more than earned it since she had moved to town. LIAM DUNBAR
