Hayden had never pictured her life ending up like this. It wasn't long ago that she was just a normal girl about to head into her senior year and trying to get through the rest of her time at high school in one piece. Starting over in a new town had never been a part of the plan, she and Val had decided to stay in Beacon Hills and neither of them had thought that that would change but now it had and Hayden was trying to adjust as best she could. In a way it helped having a friend in the town, she had told herself that she had hated Liam ever since her parents and brother died but she knew now that she had been using that hatred to mask the pain she had been feeling. Now even though she had been so awful to Liam he was doing everything he could in order to help her get used to what had been done to her. She still didn't understand other and she still wanted answers but right now she was just taking it one day at a time. The night before had been her first full moon since waking up in the woods outside of Mystic Falls and as she headed over to the bag of clothes she had left ready for the morning she could still remember the agony she had felt with every breaking bone. She really didn't know how Liam went through that every month but she knew that she just had to hope that she would get used to it one day. She had been so worried about hurting someone but Liam and Scott had been on hand to make sure that hadn't happened and she couldn't deny that she was grateful to them for that. Getting dressed, she waited for Liam to emerge dressed too before looking over in his direction. "Does that ever get any easier?" she asked, hoping that he would be honest with her. LIAM DUNBAR

the sun, the moon, the truth. Liam could vividly remember his very first full moon. The agony he had felt then --- the way he could feel every bone in his body crack as his body shifted from human into a wolf of a fair size, his eyes golden and his fur brown, matching the color of his hair, if not a shade lighter. But this moon was different, however. It wasn't just him and Scott this time around, there was an addition to the pack and that person was Hayden. After learning that she was not a human but a supernatural creature like himself, Liam knew that he couldn't leave her alone on her first full moon and after the long night finally came to an end and he felt himself change back to his human form, he made his way back to his backpack to unzip it and pull out his clothes, knowing that he needed to find Hayden to make sure she transformed alright and that she was okay. Scott had left already, leaving Liam to his own devices which made him feel a little nervous.
Liam shook his head and slowly approached Hayden after putting on his clothes. Her question made him halt for a moment before his hand moved up to rub the back of his neck lightly. Liam took a moment before he answered, almost as if trying to gather the right answer in his mind, but when he couldn't find an answer that wasn't too sugarcoated, he decided to be honest instead. "I used to wonder the same thing at first and to this day, it still hurts but---" Liam trailed off, running his tongue over his lips. "It's worth it. The feeling of freedom you get when you're running in your wolf form. It's indescribable and if I'm being honest, sometimes I look forward to it. You just... don't think about anything, really." Liam revealed with a small smile on his lips before he shrugged his shoulders. "It'll get easier, Hayden. It's only your first time."

For the last few weeks Hayden had been gearing herself up for what her first full moon was going to be like but nothing could have prepared her for the agony of every bone in her body breaking and reforming as she turned into a wolf. Slipping out of the house wouldn’t have been easy, she had needed a little more time to get her head around what was going on so she hadn’t told Val about what she had become yet, but thankfully her sister had been given the night shift so it could have easily been a lot worse. A part of her was worried about what Val would think when she told her but Hayden knew that she couldn’t keep it from her sister, not when she was going to have to disappear once a month whenever there was a full moon. She wasn’t that good a liar and she knew that Val would only end up getting suspicious so she knew that she had to tell her sister the truth but it wasn’t a conversation that she was quite ready to have just yet. Instead she was just taking it one day at a time and learning as much as she could from Liam and Scott. She knew that she wasn’t going to be able to thank the two of them enough for the help they were giving her but she knew that perhaps the best way she could repay them was by taking on board everything that they were teaching her and making sure that she didn’t hurt anyone. That was her biggest fear but for some reason Liam was a calming influence to her and she felt more at ease when he was around. Hayden felt a little bad for putting Liam on the spot with her question but she knew that it was probably something that he had asked Scott as well. She still didn’t know who had done this to her or why but this was the way her life was now and she was doing her best to make her peace with that. “That feeling is pretty incredible,” she admitted. Even with everything else that was going on she had been able to appreciate that at least and a part of her could understand looking forward to that freedom but she wasn’t quite there yet. Nodding as Liam said that it would get easier, Hayden felt a small smile work its way across her face in return. “I’m glad I didn’t have to go through it alone anyway. Thank you for everything you’ve been doing for me, after how awful I was to you I wouldn’t have blamed you for keeping your distance.”LIAM DUNBAR

the sun, the moon, the truth. Liam felt a smile appear on his lips when Hayden agreed with him. When he shifted for the first time, he wasn't the kid with anger issues, he wasn't anybody, really. He was just a wolf, running so freely in the woods, joining the howling wolves. It was something out of a fairytale, truly. He'd find himself feeling so free and capable of doing just about anything in the entire world. He felt like he had the entire world in the palm of his hand. So, despite the pain of shifting, the feeling that came soon after was so worth it. He was one of the lucky people to experience it and sure, at first, he had despised being a werewolf, but he soon found himself discovering that it wasn't all bad. It was all just a matter of controlling himself.
Liam looked at Hayden when her words came through. "You really need to stop saying that." He found himself saying before he could stop himself. Liam nervously shifted weight from one foot to the other before he ran his fingers through his hair. "When I look at you... I don't see Hayden who broke my nose or anything like that. I just see--- you. I really don't hate you, Hayden and trust me when I say I've forgotten all about it. We were kids back then and kids do bad things but they grow up and forget all 'bout them, right?" Liam shrugged his shoulders, his lips stretching to form a small smile. "But you're welcome. I just know that it can be scary shifting for the first time, so I wanted to be there for you."

Liam and Scott had both tried to tell Hayden what she could expect from her first full moon but the truth was that no amount of preparation could have prepared her for the pain of shifting into a wolf for the first time. She had never felt anything like it before in her life and she would be lying if she said that she wasn’t worried about having to go through the same thing again next month but she knew that she just had to trust that in time it would get easier. The feeling of being able to run through the woods as a wolf was incredible and it had definitely been worth the pain but she still couldn’t shake the worry about hurting someone. She had been fortunate to have Liam and Scott by her side but she knew that she couldn’t rely on them all the time, she had never been good at leaning on anyone too much. After her parents died she had done as much as she could to help her grandparents and after they died as well she had done all she could in order to provide some small form of income to help Val. She was used to standing on her own two feet but Liam and Scott both knew much more about the supernatural world than she did so she knew that she needed to learn as much from them as she could while she had the chance. She got the feeling that Scott wouldn’t abandon her and she knew that Liam wouldn’t either but she wasn’t a part of their pack, she wasn’t even sure what had happened to her yet, so there was a lot that she still needed to figure out. “You’ve even forgotten about the gum I put on your chair when I got here?” Hayden asked, a playful smile working its way across her face as she looked over at Liam. That really hadn’t been her finest moment but Liam seemed to want to put it all behind them and if she was honest that was what she wanted to. “I think you’re right, it’s time to call it even and put that all behind us,” she added. She had held a grudge for far too long and if she was honest she had grown tired of it, especially now that Liam had been going out of his way to help her. “It was scary and I know you said it would be painful but that was something else,” she admitted. She wasn’t sure whether she would ever completely get used to that but this was her life now so she knew that she had to try. “It means a lot,” she added, her smile gentle in return. “I don’t know about you but I’m starving. Do you want to grab some breakfast before we head back?”LIAM DUNBAR

the sun, the moon, the truth. Liam made a face when he was reminded of that one time Hayden had stuck a gum on his seat. "Ooookay, maybe not that." Liam joked, pretending to take his words back but he didn't really mean that. A part of him relaxed when Hayden agreed along with him that they should put the past behind them and forget all about it. "That's, uh, that's good." Liam said with a soft smile resting on his lips, feeling nothing but sheer happiness settle over him. It felt good, to finally be able to say those things to Hayden. He'd been trying his best since the second he'd met her.
Liam felt like he could relate to her words in a personal level. "It feels as almost you could never get used to it, huh?" He said what was on his mind, his voice remaining soft as his gaze never left her. Liam felt his heart flutter in the weirdest way when she said that it meant a lot to her, there was something bashful in the way he shifted weight from one foot to the other almost as if he couldn't find the words to reply back to her. "Oh! Yeah, yeah. I'd love to eat you." Liam took a few seconds to process his own words and when he did, his eyes widened. "Eat with you!" He quickly corrected himself with a nervous little chuckle following while he was practically dying inside because of his mistake. Way to go, dumbass. "Let's go then."

“Not my finest moment,” Hayden laughed. She knew that it had been petty of her and she also knew now that she never should have held a grudge for as long as she had but she couldn’t go back and change it now no matter how much she might want to so instead all she could do was own it and try and move on from it. Thankfully Liam was a decent guy and he seemed to be happy to put the past behind them as well and for that she was thankful. He had meant a lot to her once, he was her first crush even though she had never admitted that to him and he had also been a good friend. Ever since that day in the library he had been a good friend to her once again even when she hadn’t necessarily deserved it so she knew that it was time to move on from what had happened between them in sixth grade once and for all. “No more biting your head off or putting gum on your chair, I promise,” she grinned, already feeling like a weight had been lifted off her shoulders. Hayden would be lying if she said that she hadn’t felt nervous about what her first full moon as a werewolf would be like and both Liam and Scott had tried to tell her what to expect but nothing could have prepared her for that. She knew that she was never going to be able to forget the pain she had felt and she wasn’t looking forward to that happening again in a month but the feeling of being able to forget about everything else and just run was incredible. “Exactly. I don’t think I will ever get used to it but I’ve never known anything like that feeling of being able to run as a wolf.” That was something that she hadn’t expected to enjoy half as much as she had done and it was something that she had a feeling that she was never going to get tired of. As Liam spoke again, for a moment Hayden was speechless at his mistake but as he corrected himself she couldn’t help but laugh. “Are you sure you weren’t right the first time?” she teased, trying to make light of it a little before slipping her arm through his. “Come on, let’s get you something to eat before you say something else you regret,” she grinned as she led them out of the woods. the sun, the moon, the truth. "It was definitely difficult to get it out of my pants." Liam said with a small chuckle following before he paused when he realized that his sentence sounded... Odd. Sounded vaguely dirty. "The gum. I was talking about the gum." Liam pointed out shortly after but he regretted it shortly after because there was really no need to say that out loud. It drew attention to his previous sentence and it was already too late for him to take his words back. Idiot. He was normally a lot more confident and didn't run his mouth like that, but something about talking to Hayden that made him so nervous which prompted him to say these stupid things. Not to mention, his heart always did those weird somersaults whenever he'd make Hayden chuckle. It made him feel accomplished. Almost to the point where he really wanted to give himself a pat on the back.
"And no more accidental punches in the face." Liam promised with a smile on his lips, once again feeling quite happy inside. It was like a weight had lifted off his chest and it was exactly what he needed. It really felt like they were starting a new page together and he wanted nothing more than to make sure their new start wouldn't include any accidents. Liam nodded his head because he understood what she meant. It made a lot of sense and he hoped that slowly, he'd help her grow used to the feeling. The teasing that followed had his lips parting and closing as his eyes widened, having not expected Hayden to say something like that. "I--" Liam began as he nervously shifted weight, but his nervousness ended when she twined her arm with his, a gesture that made him smile. "That'd be greatly appreciated." Liam chuckled as he moved with Hayden to head to the Mystic Grill. He loved eating there, they had a really good cheeseburger that he often ordered. Along with fries, of course.
With them out on the streets, they felt like normal people again. They blended in quite nicely which was exactly what he needed. Liam guided Hayden to the Mystic Grill and upon reaching the establishment, he pushed the door open to let her in first, his smile still present on his lips and once she was in, he followed shortly after. "They make really good cheeseburgers here. Their fries are perfect too. Really crispy. So that's what I'm thinking of getting. With milkshake, maybe? What about you?"

Hayden had spent such a long time hating Liam for everything that had happened over the last few years. She had blamed him for the fact that her brother and parents had died and the way that everything had gone downhill after that and she knew that that wasn’t fair. He hadn’t meant for any of it to happen any more than she had when she’d stepped in to break of the fight that Liam had ended up getting into but it had seemed easier to blame him for what had happened than it had been to acknowledge that it was just an accident that couldn’t have been helped. Her whole world had come crashing down that day and she’d needed someone to blame and Liam had been the unfortunate recipient of all of that blame. For years she had carried her hatred of him around with her but not now, not any longer. The two of them had finally cleared the air and she couldn’t deny that she felt like a weight had been lifted off her shoulders and off her heart. She had been a complete bitch to Liam but he seemed happy to put the past behind them and she knew that that was what she wanted too. He had been going out of his way to help her ever since they’d learned that she had become a werewolf without even knowing about it and during that time she had started to remember exactly why she had taken a liking to him back in sixth grade in the first place. As Liam spoke, Hayden’s eyes widened and she couldn’t help but laugh. “You’re lucky you’re cute,” she grinned. She wasn’t sure why Liam kept on saying things like that when he was around her, it wasn’t the first time that he had and something told her that it wouldn’t be the last either. If she didn’t know any better she would say that she made him nervous but she knew that he didn’t have any reason to feel that way, not now. They had cleared the air so she wasn’t going to hold any of it against him but there were times when the sound of his heartbeat changed and she couldn’t quite figure out why that was. “That goes both ways,” Hayden nodded as Liam said that there wouldn’t be any more accidental punches in the face. Liam had punched her by accident when they were in sixth grade and she’d punched him back. She had also freaked out and punched him again more recently when he’d half shifted to show her that he was a werewolf and she knew better than to do that again. The look on Liam’s face when she asked if he was right the first time was priceless and Hayden couldn’t stop a smile from working its way across her face as they walked. She hadn’t actually expected to say those words either but she didn’t want Liam to be nervous around her so she wanted to make him see that it really didn’t matter to her. It was good to feel normal again after her first full moon shifting into a wolf. Liam and Scott had helped prepare her for what it would be like but it had still been completely different to how she had thought it would be. The pain had been unbearable but she had never felt freer than she had when she’d been able to run through the woods with the two of them. She knew that she didn’t want to hurt anyone so she was going to learn as much as she could from the two of them but for now she was just a regular teenager about to have some breakfast with a friend and she couldn’t deny that she liked that feeling. It didn’t take them long to reach the Grill and Hayden thanked Liam as he opened the door for her before slipping inside. “That sounds really good actually, I think I’ll have the same,” she admitted before looking around them. “I don’t suppose you know if they’re hiring, do you?” she asked, knowing that she needed to find something better than the few babysitting gigs that she’d had during her time in the town so far if she was going to be able to continue paying for her medication. She knew from Liam and Scott that being a werewolf was meant to heal anything like that but she had tried going without her medication and it had made her feel awful so she knew that that wasn’t an option. Whatever had been done to her was different to what had happened to Liam and Scott. LIAM DUNBAR

the sun, the moon, the truth. Liam told himself over and over again that he was being a little too obvious in the way he was acting around Hayden, but he really couldn't help himself. He'd never felt this way for anyone before and it was so overwhelming. Especially because he wasn't even sure what he was feeling. Although he was certain that he actually didn't hate her even after sticking gum onto his seat. For some reason, he just couldn't bring himself to loathe her or wish for anything bad to happen to her. He knew now that he actually wanted her to stay close to him for as long as possible without it being awkward or creepy. Liam didn't expect her to call him cute and it showed in the way his lips parted in surprise, his cheeks turning a little red as his lips opened and closed fruitlessly as an attempt to say anything, but he always found himself coming up empty instead as his lips curved into a sweet smile instead.
He tried his best to talk himself out of being SO obvious, he didn't want her to get uncomfortable because of him. It was not his intent at all. So, he tried to control himself and focused instead on something else other than the storm that was raging within. "Awesome. You won't be disappointed... I think." Liam added with a chuckle following.
The question about a job here made him tilt his head, curious eyes remaining on Hayden. "Oh, you wanna work here?" Liam questioned curiously before he turned his head to look behind him as if looking would offer him a clear answer to her question. It offered no shit. "Actually, uh, I don't know, yeah." Liam sheepishly rubbed the back of his neck as he admitted that aloud. "I've actually been thinking about getting a summer job. Find a better way to kill time and all." Liam admitted with a small nod of his head. "But I haven't really... given much thought to it. Yet."
"But, we can ask on the way out? I feel like they wouldn't mind one more person on their team." Or even two, but he didn't want to be creepy and just suddenly show up to a job interview here just because Hayden got a job here. It was certainly not the way to go. When he successfully managed to flag down the waitress, he made sure to tell her everything specifically and went over it with her before he sent her a thankful smile and thanked her and once she was gone, his gaze settled on Hayden again, his smile turning just a tad bit shy at the edges.

Hayden had told herself for such a long time that she hated Liam but looking back on it now she was pretty sure that she had never truly hated him at all. Before the fight he had just been a friend that she’d happened to have a crush on but after her parents and brother died he had become the enemy. She had blamed Liam for everything that had happened that day as if he’d known that punching her would set those events into motion but she knew that she had been wrong to think that. She had let her grief consume her and for too long it had been easier to believe that it was Liam’s fault rather than accepting that it was just an accident. She wouldn’t have blamed Liam if he hadn’t wanted anything to do with her after that and they had gone their separate ways for a long time but over the last few weeks ever since she’d moved to Mystic Falls he had gone above and beyond when it came to helping her and she knew that she was never going to be able to thank him enough for that. Without him and Scott she knew that her first full moon would have been so much worse and the truth was that she didn’t even want to think about going through that without them. She wasn’t sure what was going to happen next month but she knew that they would figure it out together just like Liam had promised her that day at school. “You don’t sound so sure about that,” Hayden laughed. Either way she knew that she was going to try what Liam had recommended anyway, ever since she’d moved to Mystic Falls he hadn’t steered her wrong yet so she hoped that he was right about this as well. As Liam asked if she wanted to work at the Grill, Hayden’s cheeks flushed red a little. “I got really sick while we were in ninth grade and I had to have a kidney transplant. My sister’s wages pay the bills but they don’t cover my anti-rejection medicine as well. I need a job to pay for it,” she explained, hoping that he would understand. “After what you told me about werewolves I tried not taking the pills to see if whatever was done to me had healed me like it healed Scott’s asthma but it didn’t work. I felt awful without them,” she added. She still didn’t understand how she was different to Liam or what had been done to her but for some reason they weren’t exactly the same and that worried her. She was a little surprised when Liam said that he had been thinking about getting a summer job but she felt a smile work its way across her face nonetheless. “That would be good. Who knows, they might even hire us together,” she shrugged before watching as he gave their order to the waitress and went over it with her again before she disappeared to pass it on. “They’d be lucky to have you.”LIAM DUNBAR

the sun, the moon, the truth. "I mean, our taste buds are different, right?" Liam gave his shoulders a quick shrug. "I think that's what I meant mostly." He explained with a hint of a smile locked on his lips, his gaze focused on Hayden still. He was quiet for the most part as she began explaining everything to him. When he heard about her kidney transplant, his eyes widened almost to the size of saucers, having not expected to hear that from her. "I'm sorry... I didn't know." Liam's gaze remained on Hayden, watching her with an apologetic gaze. "Yeah, please don't stop taking them. I think that... there's only so much our powers can heal." Liam explained in a soft voice, but it was still apologetic nonetheless. He was certain the same would go for someone dealing with Cancer. Unfortunately, it wouldn't be able to heal them. "I'm really sorry, Hayden..."
Now he felt determined to get the job for Hayden so that she could have a stable source of income helping her on the side. He wanted to be by her side as well to make sure she was okay. The last thing he wanted was for her to get really sick and not have anyone around her to help.
"They'd be lucky to have us both. It's like winning lottery." Liam said with a hint of a smile clear on his lips. "Me? No, no. They'd be lucky to have someone as hard-working and compassionate as you, Hayden." Liam's voice was soft as his compliments fell from his lips, his gaze not drifting away from her. "Yeah, I'll apply with you." While he did not come from a poor family by any means, he wanted to be independent. He wanted to do something productive with his free time. "It'll be fun." Liam added a moment later with a nod following. "Watch me regret saying any of that the second we actually get the job." Liam joked, chuckling to himself. "Kidding." He revealed shortly after, his smile still there on his lips.

“They are but I don’t think it’s possible to go wrong with a burger,” Hayden admitted. She knew that there were a lot of girls her age who were constantly watching what they ate and wouldn’t even dream of going for something like that while they were out, let alone while they were with a boy, but Hayden wasn’t like that in the least. She had always been a firm believer of liking people for who they were rather than who they pretended to be and that was certainly what had happened with Liam. The two of them had become friends when they were younger and even though she had blamed him for what had happened to her parents and Jas for a long time she knew that she had been wrong to do so and she was glad that she’d had the chance to get to know the person that he had become. He could have turned his back on her after the way she had treated him and she wouldn’t have blamed him but he hadn’t, instead he had forgiven her and they were friends again once more. Thankfully he seemed to like her for who she was as well and for that she was grateful. As he said he was sorry about the kidney transplant before saying that he didn’t know, Hayden shook her head. “No one at school did. All anyone knew was that I got sick, I didn’t want anyone to know how bad it really got,” she shrugged. She knew that it would have been a different story if her grandparents had had to tell the school that she’d died and she had come pretty close to that happening but a donor had been found eventually and it was just in the nick of time so they hadn’t had to worry about that. “Scott told me that a werewolf bite can heal most things but I think what was done to me is different. I don’t heal as well as you guys do,” she explained. She had hoped that it would mean that she wouldn’t have to take her meds any longer so that some of the financial pressure would be taken off but that wasn’t the case so she knew that it was more important than ever that she got another job so that she could get back to paying her way. As Liam apologised again, Hayden felt a half smile tug at the corner of her mouth. “You said that already but you have nothing to apologise for. None of it is on you, it’s just one of those things.” It had taken the doctors a long time to figure out what was wrong with her in the first place and they’d gone down the wrong path with treatments a few times before finally figuring out what it was but she still knew that she was one of the lucky once – she had survived. Liam’s next words were enough to make Hayden’s cheeks flush red and she felt a genuine smile work its way across her face as she looked over at him. “Maybe I should just get you to talk the owner into giving me a job,” she grinned. She wasn’t sure why he was being so nice to her right now, she wasn’t used to getting compliments from people but lately Liam had been going out of his way to help her and now he was being incredibly nice to her as well so the truth was that she really wasn’t sure what to make of it but she liked it nonetheless. “Great. We’ll get some applications after we’ve eaten then,” she said, knowing that it would be a lot of fun working together if they had the chance. As he spoke again she couldn’t help but laugh. “You’d better be,” she grinned. LIAM DUNBAR

the sun, the moon, the truth. Liam listened carefully, his eyes remaining on Hayden as she spoke, watching her expression which only made his heart ache more. He wanted nothing more than to reach out to her, to take her hand in his own to reassure her that her struggles are not going to be in vain. That all her pain will have a meaning in the end. Liam's eyes spoke in volumes despite him not saying much to her. He nodded his head slowly, letting her know that he understood her and heard her. Then she spoke about what had been done to her which made her different from the other wolves. Different from him and Scott. He reached out to let his hand envelop hers, giving it a gentle squeeze. "Hey." He called out, his voice gentle. "I know it's scary and I know it's all new for you, but I won't let you go through it alone. I'll help you find out what happened to you and how to fix it, okay?" Liam whispered, giving her hand another gentle squeeze before he let her hand go, albeit a little reluctantly.
"I know. I know." Liam nodded his head slowly, knowing that it was also a little too late to feel sorry for his past mistakes. "But if I hadn't been a jerk to you, then maybe we... would've been friends and you would've felt comfortable enough telling me the truth about what you were going through at the time." God, he was such an idiot back then and maybe he was still a bit of an idiot, but he was glad that they had gotten past that obstacle and were actually able to talk to each other without screaming at one another or getting uncomfortable around one another. He actually felt pretty content right now with Hayden and wanted to stay with her for a while even if they talked about useless crap. It didn't really matter.
Liam let out a chuckle at her teasing before he nodded his head in agreement a few times. "I'm pretty good at that, aren't I?" He shrugged his shoulders in a rather cocky manner. "You can count on me, then. Just... don't scream at me if we both get banned from the Grill." He joked with a half smile on his lips, feeling pretty content with himself now that he'd actually made her smile and he could have sworn there was a hint of color on her cheeks. Did he actually made her blush? That also made him feel quite happy with himself. "Alright. Deal." Liam felt a smile touch his lips shortly after because his next statement had actually made her laugh and it was a sound so contagious that it made him laugh, too. Soon enough, their food was ready and on their table. When the smell hit his nose, he just couldn't help but let out a content sigh. "Now that's what I'm talking about." Liam hummed, feeling quite pleased as he took the burger into his hands to take a bite. He ate in peace, mostly because he also wanted Hayden to eat without any distractions so she could fulfill her hunger. After he was done with his cheeseburger, he took it upon himself to take a few sips to enjoy the taste of the creamy drink. When he noticed that they both had different flavors, he held the drink out for her. "Would you like to try it? It's really good."

Hayden had never thought that any of this was possible. Just a few months ago she had felt sure that werewolves were only things that existed in horror movies but now she knew just how wrong she had been about that. She had been taken from her home and turned into a monster by people that still had yet to reveal themselves but they hadn’t even turned her into a full werewolf. If they had then her healing ability should have meant that the kidney transplant she’d had years ago wouldn’t be a problem any longer and she wouldn’t need to take her medication but when she had tried to stop taking her pills she had felt her body beginning to struggle so she knew that that wasn’t an option. She didn’t know exactly what had been done to her and that was what scared her. She knew that if she was a full werewolf then she would at least have others around that were like her but that wasn’t the case. Liam had said it himself that there was something different about her scent, like it was mixed with something else, but what that meant she had absolutely no idea. She was doing her best to stay strong and not let any of this get to her too much but when she was around Liam she knew that she could be honest with him about it and she was glad about that. As he squeezed her hand, Hayden felt a rueful smile work its way across her face. “What if we can’t fix it?” she asked, not sure whether there was even a possibility right now that whatever had been done to her could be fixed. It was still a relief to know that she had Liam in her corner though, he had been great through all of this and she knew that she would be lost without him. “Maybe but I didn’t tell anyone how bad it was. None of the kids at school would have known how to handle it when we were that age anyway,” she shrugged. The truth was that she hadn’t wanted anyone to know because she hadn’t wanted the looks of pity to start back up again. She had received far too many of those after her parents and brother died and she knew that she never wanted to have anyone look at her that way again. It had been bad enough having to see how worried her grandparents and sister were about her without adding anyone else to that mix. She had been through a lot but she knew that she was much stronger for it and that at least was something that she could be grateful for. “Yeah, you are,” Hayden grinned before laughing as he told her not to have a go at him if he got them both banned from the Grill. “You’d better not, I like coming here,” she admitted before hitting his arm playfully for good measure. It wasn’t much longer until their food arrived and by that time Hayden was absolutely starving. Taking a sip of her drink, she set the glass back down before picking up her burger and taking a bite. “I didn’t realise how much I need this,” she admitted, surprised at just how good it actually tasted. The two of them ate in silence after that but it wasn’t an awkward silence like it once might have been, this time it was a comfortable one and it was only when they had finished that Liam broke the silence and she felt a smile work its way across her face. “Sure. You can try some of mine too if you like,” she offered, taking Liam’s drink as he offered it to her while holding her own out to him in return. Taking a sip of his drink, her eyes widened in surprise as the taste registered with her. “You’re right, that is good,” she admitted. LIAM DUNBAR
