Danny had been looking forward to this for a while and he knew that he wasn’t going to let anything ruin their night. A year ago they had come so close to being parted for good and ever since then he had been doing his best to make the most of everything that life had to offer. He wasn’t sure what was going to happen when they graduated but he was confident that they would figure it out. There had been something there between them since the first time they met back in Hawaii and life had thrown them together once more when they both moved to Mystic Falls so Danny knew that he had to believe that no matter what happened they would get through it together. He had been in relationships before but never like this and he knew that he wanted to make it work. In the past his taste in guys hadn’t always been that great but this time he couldn’t help but feel like he had finally managed to get it right and he knew that he wasn’t going to do anything to screw it up. They had managed to get through the ritual and the difficult months that had followed and after that everything else that life had thrown at them had seemed easy in comparison. There always seemed to be something going on in Mystic Falls just like there always had been in Beacon Hills but if he was honest Danny was much happier being a part of it all than he ever had been staying out of it. Back in Beacon Hills he hadn’t let anyone know that he knew about the supernatural as he had thought that it was safer staying out of it but after learning that Allison had been brought back only to be possessed by a demon he had known that there was nothing for it but to get involved and the truth was that it was the best decision that he could have made as it had brought him back to Riley. Now they were going to be able to spent a night together having some fun surrounded by all of their friends and he knew that he wouldn’t have it any other way. After everything they had been through he knew that it was the least they deserved and he wanted to make the most of the night. Taking photos at his house had been the perfect start to the evening but he knew that the best was yet to come. They had the whole dance ahead of them and then they would need to go back and see Riley’s parents as well to finish off the evening. Right not he knew that he just wanted to take it one step at a time, though, and Danny couldn’t stop a smile from working its way across his face as Danny kissed his hand. “Then it’s lucky you have me to tell you when to stop,” he teased. Riley really wasn’t that bad in all honesty but it was still fun to tease him about it nonetheless. “I used to think it was easier living away from all of this but I wouldn’t want to go back to the way things were now. I didn’t play a part in what went on back in Beacon Hills and I regret it. You never know, Terra might want to help,” he offered. Danny had and it was the same for Stiles and Allison as well. They all had their own part to play and even though keeping most people in the dark was the only way to keep the people they cared about safe there were times when that rule had to be broken. “Maybe when we’re alone,” he chuckled as they headed inside. As they reached the gym Danny looked around them and he felt a smile work its way across his face. “She is,” he nodded as they stepped inside. “I think a dance is in order first,” he said, not offering any resistance as Riley drew him closer and Danny pressed a kiss to his boyfriend’s lips. “Come on,” he said as he pulled back, tugging at Riley’s hands and leading him out onto the dance floor. No luck’s better than bad luck. Riley hadn’t put much stead in the saying when his dad had been dragging him around the country. What he’d wanted then he’d not been lucky enough to get. When he’d complained his mom had told him not to rely on luck, to make these things happen for himself but when you were fifteen and had no way of just being able to legally go against your parents wishes it wasn’t possible. Bad luck had been what had changed everything in the end. It had forced him away from the guy he was pretty sure he’d been falling for in Hawaii, it had put him in Bear Creek for the Alpha to bite and it had broken Greg’s arm, OK, maybe that mainly been his temper. It had him coming close to wolfing out his first day in Mystic Falls … and had put him right back in Danny’s path. His luck had been spotty after that but tonight it was all good and Riley knew that these brief moments were what you had to hang on to when life started one of those slow slides or quick, breathless dips down again. It didn’t mean all your luck was going to be bad, just that you were actually having some for once. Tonight, astonishingly it was proving to be all good. His mom coming through for him finally, picking Danny up going smoothly, senior prom actually going ahead with his boyfriend right there at his side. There’d always be the other shoe out there waiting to drop but Riley had come around to the idea that constantly watching out for it meant that you missed some incredible things … some incredible people.
He kept his hand in Danny’s as he dropped away from his lips. The smile that had curved his lips cracked into a chuckle as Danny teased him over what he’d said. He’d only been half kidding, sounds he really did get all wound up in his own head, the words that spun out of his mouth in that state ones he often wanted to take back. He could do that tonight with Terra, apologise for the way he’d let his stinging pride rule. ”Terra’s gonna think it’s a miracle you can get me to do that,” he said, his chuckle trailing off. She’d always tried and half the time it had worked. Blue eyes narrowed faintly as he glanced aside at his boyfriend. ”She’d probably go charging into it all head first,” he admitted. ”That’s what I’m worried about. I got chewed up and spat out by all of this before I knew what was going on. I was lucky, I had you, I had Scott and the pack. She’d have me and all that too if she needed it but … I don’t want to see her hurt.” It might be something he’d come to regret but the bigger part of him wanted so badly to protect her right now. Protecting was very different to keeping someone blind though, wasn’t it? Pushing the thought aside, Riley allowed himself to be distracted by Danny. His brows climbed, dimples flashing as he flashed a grin. ”Oh really?” It was like that then. Stunned as he was the thought dropped from his mind for a moment as he looked around the gym. ”I think she’d kill us both if we didn’t grace the dancefloor.” Riley allowed Danny to tow him out there before he drew him close, settling his arms around his boyfriend’s shoulders. ”My first prom dance,” he murmured, risking a glance down to make sure he wasn’t already stomping all over Danny’s feet. ”I couldn’t have asked for anybody more incredible to have it with.” His good luck again. Both of them blessed with it right now.

For a while Danny had wondered if he and Riley would even make it as far as prom in one piece but now it seemed that he needn’t have worried after all. It had been a little surreal getting ready at his place while he waited for Riley to arrive but his parents had gone crazy with the camera like he had known that they would, especially when Riley got there. Danny knew that he was lucky that they had been so accepting of him, it had taken his grandparents and the rest of the family longer to come around to the idea but they had eventually as well, and his parents had welcomed Riley into their home with open arms when the two of them found each other again. He hadn’t told them everything that had gone on in Hawaii but he had always suspected that they knew that he’d met someone and it hadn’t taken them long to put the pieces together at all. Danny knew that he’d made the wrong choice in the past when it came to guys but this time he felt like he had finally managed to get it right. Riley had already been taken from him once and he had felt like his heart had been ripped out of his chest too when that had happened but he had been given a second chance by Henrik and Lukas and Danny was trying to make the most of that as well. Danny knew that things could have easily been so different that day and Riley could have remained stuck on the Other Side but he had been brought back and Danny knew better than to take that for granted. Had it not been for their kindness then Danny knew that he and Riley never would have made it to this day but they had and he knew that he wanted to enjoy their evening together with their friends while it lasted. There was something else that Danny hoped would happen that evening as well, he hoped that Riley and Terra would finally be able to work things out. He knew that things had been strained between them for a while and Danny knew that Riley keeping the fact that he was a werewolf from Terra couldn’t help but if there was something that he could do to help smooth things over between them then he knew that he would. Danny knew all too well that good friends were hard to come by and he knew what it was like to lose a best friend as he’d lost Jackson when he and his family had moved to London and he knew that he didn’t want there to be any distance between Riley and Terra for any longer than there had been already if he could help it. “Hopefully she’ll like me then,” he said, a smile working its way across his face as he looked over at his boyfriend. Danny would be lying if he said that he wasn’t nervous about finally meeting Terra, he knew that he had probably seen her around school a few times during the time she had been there but he had never met her properly and he knew that he wanted to make a good first impression if he could. “I know you don’t but keeping the truth from her is probably hurting her as well so you just need to figure out which is the lesser of two evils,” Danny offered. He knew that it wouldn’t be easy to come clean to her but it had to be better than keeping her in the dark so he hoped that Riley would figure that out sooner or later too. “Yeah, it is,” he chuckled before feeling a smile work its way across his face as Riley spoke again. “It would be a shame to let all of this go to waste,” he agreed before turning and leading them both out onto the dance floor. Once they were there he wrapped his arms around Riley’s waist as they began to dance. “I couldn’t either,” he admitted, a genuine smile on his face as his eyes met his boyfriend’s. “I love you.”RILEY PARKER

If there was one person he’d always been able to be a normal kid around it was Terra. She’d never cared what either of his parents did for a job, she hadn’t been the sort who’d recognized their names and decided to fawn over him like it would mean that his mom would put them up on stage … as if he ever had that sort of pull with his mom. She’d been a breath of air whenever he’d come back from a year on the road, a little grouchy, a little more desperate to make the cycle stop. When he’d realized he was gay and had developed his first crush on a boy she was the one he’d told. Each time since. She’d been his only friend, his confidant, his ass kicker and screwing up with her was one of his biggest regrets. When he’d seen her again at the high school he’d tried to make up for it. Riley knew it hadn’t been enough, he still hadn’t found the words to make it right. He hadn’t taken the opportunity when he’d gone over to Terra’s apartment on her birthday and had seen her with the blonde guy. Jealousy had filled his chest instead, the ridiculous idea that somehow she could talk to him when she couldn’t to her best friend. He knew it was ridiculous now but it wasn’t so easy to see things when you were in the middle of them. He wanted things to be better between them again, he wanted her to meet the person who’d made him so happy, he wanted Danny to see the one person he’d had on side before. Tonight he was determined to have it happen. Tonight was going to be everything he’d ever wanted – being out there with a boy he loved and having the two people who mattered most in his life finally meet one another.
Of course that meant that nerves were dancing in his stomach but like he had with his anxiety about his mom Danny was helping it all melt away. Given how much he loved him honestly how could either his mom or Terra fail to like him. Riley drew in a breath, shaking his head slightly as he let it out. ”She’s going to love you,” he promised. ”No matter what’s going on she’s gonna be happy knowing that I’ve found someone I love, who loves me back.” Even with the stalemate he and Terra seemed to be at in terms of communication he knew that from the bottom of his heart. He knew in the bottom of his that he should’ve opened up to Terra about what had happened to him, at least she’d know then that nothing she said could be more insane than his own story. Riley raked his teeth over his lip, nodding slowly. ”I know it is,” he managed hoarsely. Dipping his head, he finally managed to nod. ”Not tonight … but I will find some way to tell her. I don’t want her finding out about all of this another way.” He didn’t want it hanging over their heads tonight either. He’d make the decision and put it behind them so they could have an incredible night. Caroline would make sure his was a misery in the end if they didn’t make the most of it. ”Then we won’t,” Riley promised, allowing Danny to draw him out onto the floor. ”Everything turned out right at just the right time,” he said softly. ”I love you too.” He was pretty sure he had from the moment that plane had taken off in Hawaii. Drawing Danny in, Riley kissed him softly, right out there in the middle of the dance floor.

For a while Danny had found himself wondering if he and Riley would even make it as far as prom with everything that they had been through but now they were about to spend the night surrounded by the people that meant the most to them before they all moved on to the next chapter of their lives and Danny knew that he wouldn’t have it any other way. Back in Beacon Hills he’d had plenty of friends around him but if he was honest the only person that he had really been able to count on was Jackson. After he left Danny had quickly come to realise that things weren’t the same and even though he’d still had the rest of his friends around him he had started to realise just how different he was from all of them. There was a time when his friends had given Scott and Stiles a hard time because they weren’t a part of the same group that the rest of them were and Danny had come to realise that life was too short to be surrounded by people like that. Even now he still kept in touch with some of his old friends from Beacon Hills but he knew that he had made the right decision by joining Scott and the others in Mystic Falls. He hadn’t really known any of them too well back then so he knew that they could have been wary of him and kept him on the outside of their group but they hadn’t, instead they had welcomed him with open arms and he couldn’t help but feel like he had found the kind of friendship with them that he had been missing ever since Jackson left. It wasn’t quite the same as having someone around who knew pretty much everything about him but it was the next best thing and if he was honest he really was happy. It might have been touch and go for a while but he and Riley had finally made it to prom and Danny knew that he wanted to make the most of it while it lasted. “You’ve definitely found that,” Danny nodded. He truly did love Riley and even though things were going to be changing for them soon enough he knew that they would figure it out. Danny had been accepted to a lot of different schools across the country and he had thought about going to one of them but at the end of the day he knew that there were still plenty of things that he needed to do in Mystic Falls and considering that everyone else was going to be going to Whitmore he knew that he would regret it if he didn’t do the same. His parents understood, they knew that he wanted to stay close to them, to Riley and to all of his friends, and he knew that he had their complete support so he knew that he really couldn’t ask for any more than that. “It won’t be easy but it will be better coming from you,” Danny assured him as he gave Riley’s hand a gentle squeeze. “It will be worth it in the long run.” He knew that things weren’t easy between Riley and Terra right now but Danny knew just how important it was to have a best friend around and he knew that he didn’t want Riley to end up losing Terra altogether so it was just one of those things. Leading Riley out onto the dance floor, Danny stepped closer to him once they were there and kissed Riley back, not caring in the least who was around them. “I’ll never get tired of hearing you say that,” he admitted, a soft smile working its way across his face as they danced. When he’d first met Scott and he’d started teaching him how to be a werewolf that didn’t leave claw marks in his locker there’d been talk of an anchor. Danny’s name had been the first on his lips, his now boyfriend able to calm him down from that very first moment he’d turned to see him in the high school hallway. Terra’s had been the second. She might not’ve been in town then but it didn’t mean his friend hadn’t been on his mind. She’d seen him change with every passing year, the kid who raced down the hallway in his grandparents’ building never quite the same one who’d left the year before. No matter who he’d been she’d stuck with him, just the way Danny had. Riley reached over and took Danny’s hand at the thought, squeezing it with a gratitude he couldn’t exactly explain there and then. The last couple of years, with him silent and hundreds and miles away from New York, could’ve changed what they had irrevocably but if there was one thing he’d learned since he’d seen his eyes flash in the mirror of the tiny bathroom in Bear Creek, it was that the things you expected to change in your life were never the ones they did. It was the things that didn’t really matter that got twisted up and tore you apart. You had to work past those, drill down to the things you held closest and if the world tried to tear those up too? You fought it tooth and nail.
Danny had done that for him. The love they had for one another stretching even beyond the grave. Riley smiled, feeling the tears that wanted to well in his eyes make his throat ache. He lifted Danny’s hand and pressed a kiss, quick and fierce to his palm. ”I have,” he said hoarsely, ”and one look at my face when she sees us together, she’s going to see that.” No matter what had happened between them he was pretty damn sure Terra would be happy for him. Just as he would be for her if it turned out that James Dean hadn’t just been taking advantage of his friend. Terra was gong to need someone to lean on that probably wasn’t him when he dragged that veil down and revealed to her that there was a nightmarish world out there. Riley let out a long breath and nodded gain. ”I know,” he admitted. ”If she finds out and then realises that I practically hinted at what I was she’ll be pissed and she’s got a hell of a right hook.” Even that would be worth it in the long run. He couldn’t leave his best friend on the fringes of life, completely unaware of what was happening right in front of her face. That was a conversation for another night though, tonight was prom and he wasn’t about to monopolise it with the biggest conversation he’d ever had with Terra. Out on the dancefloor with Danny, Riley drew him close, slipping into a kiss that had him pushing all thoughts of things going wrong deep down in his head. ”I’m never gonna get tired of saying it,” he admitted. He laced his hands at the small of Danny’s back, touching his lips to his boyfriend’s smile, staying close. ”You thought about how we’re going to do things if we do go to Whitmore?” he asked softly. In town they’d slept over at each other’s homes what felt like most nights but at Whitmore there were no parents, just a room to share if they could.

Had things worked out differently then Danny knew that he and Riley never would have made it this far so he knew that he wanted to make the most of this night while it lasted. It was only a year ago that Riley had been used as a sacrifice in Klaus’ ritual to free his werewolf side and seeing his boyfriend’s heart ripped out of his chest had made Danny feel like his own had been ripped out with it. That was something that he had never thought that he would ever see and he hoped that he never would again. The memory of that day had haunted him for a long time after that and he would be lying if he said that there weren’t still times when he didn’t imagine Riley lying there like he had done that day when he closed his eyes but Henrik and Lukas had brought him back and Danny had made himself a promise that he wasn’t going to worry Riley with it. He had wanted to be the strong one given that Riley was the one who had actually died that day and ever since then Danny had been doing his best to help him through it. Now Riley seemed to be doing so much better and it wouldn’t be long before they were both able to graduate with their friends. What was going to happen after that he wasn’t too sure, Danny had been accepted into a few different schools that his parents had insisted that he apply to, he knew that they wanted him to go to an Ivy League school but the truth was that that wasn’t really important to Danny anymore. More than anything he wanted to stay with Riley and his friends and if that meant heading to Whitmore instead then he knew that he was fine with that. For now that was the last thing on his mind, taking photos at his home had been fun but the main event was going to prom itself. Danny knew that he and Riley would head back to Riley’s place afterwards so that his mom could take some photos too but right now they had some time to themselves and Danny knew that he wanted to make the most of it. He had already seen some of their friends among the crowd, Scott and Bonnie were dancing together, Dec and Care were doing the same and even Allison was among the crowd somewhere talking to someone that Danny didn’t recognise. They all seemed to be having a great time and Danny knew that he couldn’t ask for anymore than that. Danny couldn’t stop a smile from forming on his face as Riley kissed his palm and he nodded. “I hope so,” he nodded. He truly had fallen for Riley even before they both ended up in Mystic Falls. It had seemed like fate had drawn them back together after the incredible summer that they had spent together and Danny had known better than to argue with that. No matter what happened they always seemed to find their way back to each other and he honestly hoped that that was going to continue. “Best you tell her outright before she figures it out then,” he warned, hoping that Riley would do the right thing. Dancing with Riley, Danny wrapped his arms around his boyfriend as he kissed him back gently. As Riley asked if he’d thought about how things were going to go if they both decided to go to Whitmore, Danny nodded. “I have. I was actually wondering how you would feel about sharing a dorm,” he admitted. Danny knew that they could just commute the way that some of their friends were probably going to but he couldn’t deny that living with Riley properly had an appeal all of its own. RILEY PARKER

They’d tried to leave their friendship in a semi-decent place when he’d dragged Terra back into school with him that day but Riley knew that the ground it was built on was no longer as steady as it had once been. They were both keeping secrets, something they’d never done before. He’d always been painfully honest with Terra, his best friend the one person he’d been able to be that way with. If he’d told his parents half of what was going through his head they would’ve dismissed it, worse yet, his mom would’ve laughed the way she had more than a year ago when his dad had called to say they weren’t coming home. She’d called him a drama queen then, something he’d never been, not that she’d know. Terra would’ve known it was bullshit, maybe she’d have been able to talk him down from trashing the truck to a point where he’d had to nearly clean out his bank account to get it repaired. She’d been a million miles away then. Now she was here and it still felt like that gulf was between them. Blowing the lid off of the safe world they’d lived in before was going to tear at something inside of him but it had to happen eventually, Riley thought. He couldn’t go on lying to Terra forever. He wanted her to be a part of his life here, to get to know Danny, to be safe in a town like this.
In Mystic Falls that might be a bit of a big ask though.
Riley let his gaze rake over the room, trying to pick out Terra’s bright flash of hair as he kissed Danny’s palm, emotion burning in the gesture. His eyes and smile were soft as he looked up at Danny. Using his hold on his hand Riley tugged him a little closer. ”I know so,” he promised, kissing his lips this time. ”Terra knows how bad things used to be for me. She’s going to be our biggest cheerleader, other than Stiles that is.” Laughing, he glanced around, catching sight of Stiles and Lydia dancing on the other side of the floor. It was about time. His smile for his friends fell away slightly as Danny told him it was best for him to tell her before she figured it out. Riley drew in another deep breath, felt his shoulders slump as he managed a half smile. ”I don’t think that’ll save me from a punch,” he said with a crooked smile. ”Soon,” he promised. He just wanted to get through tonight before he blew his friendship with Terra up anymore than he already had. Tonight was going to be happy.
Tomorrow they could deal with everything else.
They had a whole future ahead of them now. Starting with college. Riley drew back slightly as he came up from the kiss, laughing as Danny admitted he’d thought about how things were going to be at Whitmore. ”Did you honestly think I’ve ever say no to that?” he asked. ”I’m gonna be pushing those beds together the minute we get there. Spending every night with you is going to be incredible.” They all lived close enough to Whitmore to be able to commute but he honestly doubted any of them were going to. College was meant to be all about spreading their wings … maybe literally in some cases.

The thought that prom night could have easily ended up so differently wasn’t lost on Danny. He knew that he was lucky to be able to share this with Riley, if he had decided to stay in Beacon Hills then they wouldn’t have had this chance and they also wouldn’t have done it Henrik and Lukas hadn’t brought back all of the people who had died as a part of the ritual that Klaus had had his witch perform to free his werewolf side. He could have easily ended up spending this night alone but he wasn’t, instead he was spending it with the guy he loved and the truth was that Danny couldn’t be happier about that. It wouldn’t be long before they were heading to college and he wasn’t sure what would happen when they got there but he knew that he didn’t want to let anything come between the two of them. He had been in other relationships before and he knew that he always had an awful habit of picking the wrong guys but this time he felt like he had finally managed to get it right and Danny knew that he didn’t want that to come to an end. They had been through so much together already but everything that had happened only made them stronger and that was something that Danny was able to hold onto. He didn’t want to be the guy who kept making the wrong choices when it came to love, he wanted this to work and thankfully things were still going well for them now. Danny had hated saying goodbye to Riley back in Hawaii but life had brought them back together and that was a pretty big sign as far as Danny was concerned. So far the evening had been perfect and Danny didn’t offer any resistance as Riley pulled him closer. Kissing Riley back, Danny felt a smile form on his face at his boyfriend’s words. “Things haven’t been easy for you but I’m not going anywhere,” Danny assured him. He knew that Riley had been let down so many times in the past and Danny knew that he wasn’t going to become another name to add to that list. He wanted Riley to be happy and he knew that he would do anything to make that happen. “Stiles and the others know what I’ve been through as well, I think they’re all rooting for us,” he chuckled. The others hadn’t known him that well back in Beacon Hills but they had all seen his awful dating record and he knew that they were all on their side now. Things seemed to be falling into place for all of them at long last and Danny really hoped that it stayed that way. As Riley spoke again, Danny brought a hand up and let it rest against his boyfriend’s cheek. “Maybe not but she deserves the truth. Don’t leave it too long,” he said, hoping that Riley would listen to his words. He had kept quiet about knowing about the supernatural in Beacon Hills when he could have been there helping. Accepting it all wasn’t easy but it had helped him build some pretty solid friendships and he knew that he wouldn’t have it any other way. Danny could see that Riley didn’t want to worry about that right now, though, so he decided not to press it any further for the time being. Instead he wanted to enjoy the time that they were able to spend together at prom surrounded by their friends and it was with some reluctance that he let Riley draw back from the kiss. Danny had felt a little nervous about discussing what things would be like at Whitmore but Riley’s response had a smile forming on his face once more. “I hoped you wouldn’t but I wasn’t sure if you thought it might be too soon,” he admitted. Now they spent most nights together but it would be different actually living together and a part of him had been worried that Riley wasn’t ready for that. “Forget pushing the beds together, my mom and dad have already promised to get us a double bed if we end up sharing,” he chuckled, glad that his parents were so supportive of their relationship. It had always been a matter of trying not to burden people before. Riley had learned early on that trying to tell his parents about anything was a losing game. It was like they were always deaf to everything that wasn’t their own achievements. His mom was too focused on seeing her own star rise and his dad lived in his own world unless his mom was there and then the startling brightness of that star dragged him out of whatever world he was in. Terrra had been there every summer, her door the first one he’d gone to the minute he’d dumped his stuff in his bedroom in whatever house they’d decided to rent that year. In those brief weeks he got to spend with his best friend he’d taken a little of the weight off of his shoulders, had tried to do the same for her but he hadn’t wanted to leave her with that weight of concern on her shoulders when he’d be gone again, just words in an email or a voice on the phone for the next nine months It wasn’t until Danny had come into his life and started that snowball surge of changes that he’d had someone there full time to talk to. Just being able to speak up when that weight was crushing had meant the world, even if he tried not to let it all spill out.
Feeling the relief of it all Riley pulled Danny in. He kissed him, pouring that gratitude into the brushing of lips. Danny had done more for him than he’d ever been able to say. They had each other now, would continue to no matter what came. He wrapped his hand around the back of Danny’s neck, one corner of his mouth kicking higher. ”That’s what’s made it easier for me,” he admitted. ”Having you and the others … and Terra … right here.” A pack to give him the family he’d never had up until then. Riley’s laughter was warm, rolling out in response to Danny’s chuckle. ”It feels good to have people supporting us.” Instead of hiding how he felt about people because he’d known that nobody deserved to have him walking out of their lives the way he would’ve needed to. When you were involved in someone’s life you stuck around, through the good and the bad. He hadn’t done that with Terra in the last couple of years, that was changing. ”I promise I won’t,” he said hoarsely, wrapping his arms around Danny to hug him. After tonight, he’d allow them all to have this first.
An amazing night and then in a few months they would be at Whitmore, hopefully leaving some of the darkness behind in town. A fresh start. He’d hoped that would include sharing a room with Danny, their first step to really living together he guessed. It seemed like he hadn’t been the only one with the thought on his mind either. Riley snorted, shaking his head as he swayed to the music. ”Not too soon at all. I want to be with you.” No more worrying that his parents were going to burst in at any moment, no going back and forth between Danny’s place and his. It would be theirs. As Danny admitted his parents had already promised to get them a double bed, Riley tipped his head back and murmured a thanks. ”Did I tell you how much I love your parents?” Riley asked with a grin. ”This is going to be amazing. Tonight’s already pretty amazing.” His blue eyes drifted around the room again. While they’d been dancing and talking the place had been filling up, everybody looking like they were having the sort of night they all deserved.

Given his track record back in Beacon Hills, Danny had always thought that he would end up going to hi s senior prom on his own. He had never been good at picking guys, he had always gone for the ones he thought were good but just ended up hurting him and he had known that he hadn’t wanted to end up going down that route again. With Ethan it had been Danny’s decision to end things and let him go and he’d lied when he’d said that he couldn’t date a werewolf. He had said it so that Ethan wouldn’t feel guilty about leaving him behind and in turn Danny had eventually left Beacon Hills in his rear view mirror. That wasn’t something he had seen coming but he was glad that it had done because after an incredible summer in Hawaii, moving to Mystic Falls had brought Riley back into his life. That was something that he was never going to regret and being able to spend a night with him like this was something that Danny knew he was never going to forget. They had so many of the people they cared about around them and all of them seemed happy so he knew that he really couldn’t ask for anything more than that. There was always something going on in Mystic Falls but for one night they were regular high school students and he knew that he wouldn’t have it any other way. As Riley said that having them all around him had made things easier for him, Danny felt a smile touch his lips. “You’ve found where you belong and we’re not going to let you go,” Danny assured him. Riley had died at Klaus’ hands during the ritual and even now the memory of that night still haunted him but at the end of the day Riley was standing before him now and he was real so Danny knew better than to dwell on the past too much. “It does. I had friends back in Beacon Hills but not like these. This is new to me too,” he admitted. He’d always had Jackson and there had been a few other people that he could count on as well but Scott, Stiles and the others had stuck together through thick and thin and Danny was proud to be a part of that group. “Good,” he nodded, his smile returning as he wrapped his arms around Riley in return and hugged him back. “If she does hit you, don’t forget to react,” he added, his tone light and teasing as he leaned forward and pressed a gentle kiss to his boyfriend’s lips. Soon they would be moving on to college but Danny knew that things weren’t really going to change too much when they got there although he couldn’t deny that sharing a room with Riley was something that he had been thinking a lot about lately. “I want that too,” he admitted, his eyes locked on Riley’s as he spoke. “I’ve never felt this way about anyone before.” His other relationships had never lasted this long and he had never felt like this before. He wanted to experience everything with Riley and sharing a dorm would be their first step towards living together so he hoped that it would work out for them. “Maybe you should tell them the next time you see them,” he teased. “They know I’m crazy about you and believe it or not they really like you,” he added with a grin. “It is, we’d better make sure we get to share a dorm,” he agreed. “I’m glad we have tonight.”RILEY PARKER

People always said that people got what they deserved in the end but it was never something Riley had believed in until now. He’d paid his dues for this hadn’t he? All those years being dragged around by his parents, no amount of arguing changing the road they’d mapped out for themselves, the lack of solidity. Worse yet what had happened with Niklaus. Riley had tried not to dwell on it afterwards but when you’d been killed to free some witch shackled part of someone who would spill any amount of blood to get what he wanted your scars were carved deep enough that they were near impossible to ignore. When he did it felt like he’d nearly paid the ultimate price for just a few months of happiness with Danny at that point. The scales had been way out of balance, at least until they’d slowly started to fill the other side. Maybe karma had finally worked itself out.
He could see the lights twinkling around Danny, making the whole place feeling magical even if it was still just the school gym. You could look past the basketball hoops still hanging there and see way beyond the previously stifling confines of school. You could see all the way to the amazing future you never thought you were gonna have.
Riley grinned, pressing his brow against Danny’s for a moment, still swaying to the music. The same went. Whatever was come, all of this was going to have to be pried out of his cold dead hands. He stroked his thumb over the back of Danny’s neck. ”We both lucked out there.” he said honestly. Danny’s friends had become his and together as a pack they were forging a way through what had been some screwed up lives for all of them. Terra included after tonight. Chuckling lightly at Danny’s joking warning, Riley squeezed him hard for a moment. He’d manage there too with Danny’s support.
None of them could really predict what was going to hit next but being together with Danny at Whitmore, rooming together in the dorms, meant that when it did hit they’d be facing it all together. Maybe some would see it as a big step but after all they’d been through it all felt natural. Riley looked into Danny’s dark eyes for a moment before he drew his hands back to frame his boyfriend’s face. ”I love you and I’m so glad you’re the first person I have done that way.” No other relationship – and there weren’t many that even would’ve approached the title – had ever been close to this. It was like fate had been stoppering all of that up for the one.
His smile slid back in as he joked about loving Danny’s parents for what they were giving them too. They’d accepted the two of them with far less fanfare that his own parents, thank God. ”I just might. I already need to thank them for raising an incredible son.” His throat ached as Danny told him his parents really liked him too. Riley swallowed hard, knowing that in her own way his mom probably did really like Danny too. ”Hey,” he said hoarsely. ”If they try and separate us I’ll just get my mom to wade in. She’ll have them talked around in an instant.” Maggie Parker could charm the birds from the very trees. Tonight though they didn’t need that. Sliding his hand down into Danny’s, Riley squeezed. ”Me too. Come on, let’s go get a photo and make the most of it.” Still shimmying slightly to the music, Riley towed his boyfriend through the crowd, ready to immortalise tonight on glossy paper.
