Mystic Falls. It was a town that Hannah had heard of while she had been watching over the humans from Heaven but she had never been there herself until now. After taking over control of Zoe’s body a lot of things had changed for the angel, she was confronted by feelings stronger than anything she had felt with her previous vessel but she was also confronted with all of the woman’s memories. Hannah had never heard of that happening before, normally when an angel took control of a vessel they could occasionally hear the human in the background when their will was strong enough but otherwise nothing else remained until they chose to let the human take control once more. This time was different. Hannah knew that Zoe was gone, she had wanted to save the woman but Zoe had known that it wouldn’t do any good so instead she’d made Hannah make her a promise, one that she was trying her best to stick to. She knew that the supernatural world could affect anyone regardless of how old they were and she knew that there were hunters out there like the Winchesters who wanted to protect people from that world but she had never heard of a person trying to protect supernatural kids from other supernatural creatures and from hunters. She knew that it made sense, after all the kids that Zoe had looked after were all orphans and also a part of the supernatural world through no fault of their own, but it had still taken a little getting used to. Now Hannah had taken over the job of trying to keep the kids safe and a few more had joined them along the way. She knew that having her around had to be strange for the kids that Zoe had been looking after before she died, especially Zoe’s daughter Lily, but they had eventually welcomed her into the fold when they had realised that she wasn’t going to let them push her away. After Darren had found their last home Hannah had known that it wasn’t safe for them to stay there any longer in case he’d told anyone else where he was going or what he was planning on doing so they had moved around a few times over the last few months while Hannah had trained to become every bit the hunter that Zoe had been before finally settling on Mystic Falls. She knew that the town was dangerous, after all the high supernatural presence in the town meant that there were bound to be hunters around too but she knew that the kids wanted to be around others like them if they could and Mystic Falls was the place to that might be able to make that happen. They all knew that they needed to be careful but Hannah knew enough about the kids to know that they weren’t going to make any careless mistakes and let anyone they weren’t completely sure they could trust know what they were. Hannah’s faith in them meant that she was free to do other things while they were all at school and that day she had caught wind of a hunt. Her main priority was keeping the kids safe but she had taken up Zoe’s mantel of wanting to keep others safe too and whether that meant that she had to help a kid that had been thrown into her world and didn’t know how to control themselves or whether she had to stop a monster that’d had every chance to change but chose not to then she knew that she would do it. It was that knowledge that had caused her to check out a crime scene that day, one of what had seemingly started out as a home invasion but had gone horribly wrong. Having finished checking it out after using some of Zoe’s fake credentials and finding nothing of use, she made her way outside and started looking around for any kind of clue that might have been left behind. Nothing in this town was what it seemed. Crime rates were high here, scandalously in fact but outside of Mystic Falls those figures appeared as low as they should’ve been. Few realized the scale of missing persons and deaths here, fewer still had their eyes open enough to realise that this wasn’t just some super violent enclave in the middle of rural Virginia. Why those that were in the know and didn’t have the ability to battle against it all were still here was honestly beyond him. Remiel flashed one of the retreating sheriff’s deputies a guileless grin and headed towards the scene his host had heard tell of over the radio he’d taken to keeping in his office. When it came to those cases where it looked like somebody might have run afoul of one of those things driving the crime figures up he had a tendency to bend the promise he’d made to his host. It wasn’t the angel entirely looking out of those wide blue eyes but the angel did rise a little higher in the mind of the journalist, just in case. The promise had genuinely gone both ways when it had been made, his word to protect Gabriel West kept from the moment he had come across the young man bleeding in an alleyway, fully prepared to give his own life for that of a young woman attacked by vampires.
Approaching the taped perimeter of the scene, Remiel edged further into control. His fingers hovered just above the tape, moving almost imperceptibly as he studied those still working here. Unfortunately it didn’t look as though there had been anybody here to save the family that had lived in house today. One of his own kind could have been in there in the blink of an eye as they had been aware of the situation, had they cared to try and put a stop to one of the horrors occurring here. He would have done, without hesitation, but slumbering as he and Gabriel had been, the situation had escaped their notice until the radio calls had started coming through that morning. His fellow angels … well, even here, they were now thin on the ground. Remiel slipped his hands into the buttery soft pockets of his host’s jeans, eyeing the doorway of the house beyond. Hell on earth was literally coming true in this town but still heaven seemed set on keeping its distance, allowing the hunters to keep the peace here in a way that was never going to work. Those angels he had found here were all keeping their heads down, allowing these atrocities to happen around them. A part of him couldn’t blame them, another part desperately wanted them to stand up to it all.
Seeing a blonde working her way out of the house and towards the perimeter of the scene Remiel narrowed piercing blue eyes. Not a sheriff or officer that his host recognized but there was something … a feeling in his gut that had him inching closer, the tape gathering against his stomach as he tried to rifle through Gabriel’s memories. Nothing, but still … ”Excuse me,” Remiel called. His host’s cultured tones lifted above the faint noise of activity within the house. Reaching into his pocket he retrieved the press pass Gabriel had obtained from the state of Virginia when he’d made his move to Mystic Falls. ”Officer is it? Gabriel West from the Courier, I wondered if I might ask a few questions about what’s happened here. Nothing salacious, I promise. The Courier’s only printing the verified truth these days.” Remiel inched his way along the tape towards her, sandy brows drawing together as he studied the figure. Definitely something, a tug in the pit of his stomach that increased the closer he got. Another angel? One as interested in this as he was. Honestly, what were the chances?

There was a time when Hannah had lived to follow orders. She had done everything that her Father had asked of her and more but she had never been one of those mindless angels who couldn’t think for themselves. She had slowly started to question whether what was going on really was right and from there she had started to take more of an interest in the way that Heaven was being run. Even now she still wasn’t sure whether she was doing things the right way and she would be the first to admit that she had neglected her duties lately but finding the balance between hunting, working and taking care of the kids that Zoe had been looking after really wasn’t all that easy. Somehow Hannah needed to learn how to factor in running Heaven alongside all of that and she knew that sooner or later she would find a way to do all of the things that she needed to but right now she was doing the best she could. She wasn’t entirely sure what the other angels would make of the decisions that she had been making lately, after all they had always tried not to get too involved in the affairs of humans and Castiel had been criticised on more than one occasion for doing just that but as far as she was concerned the kids she looked after were her family just as much as the other angels were and she knew that she couldn’t walk away from that. Sooner or later she knew that she was going to have to go back and see how her second in command was doing but for now she knew that she just needed to focus on one thing at a time and right now she had a case to work. Becoming a hunter wasn’t something that she had ever planned on but Zoe’s memories and feelings had made her realise just how many dangers there were in the world and she had made Zoe a promise to watch over her family before she died and it was a promise that she intended on keeping. Hannah had already arrived too late to save some of the kids from the hunter that had attacked them but more had joined them since then and she knew that she wasn’t going to let any of the others die. She knew that she would do whatever she had to in order to protect them and she wanted to do the same for the other residents of Mystic Falls as much as she could as well. Angels weren’t meant to meddle in the affairs of men too much but there were so many creatures out there that weren’t natural and went against the world that her Father had worked so hard to create so she knew that she couldn’t just stand by and do nothing. It was for that reason that she wanted to get to the bottom of this case and heading to the crime scene was the best way of doing just that. It wasn’t long after she’d headed outside when a voice started speaking and she turned to see a man she didn’t recognise but the angel within was someone that she knew straight away. “I’m sure it is, Remiel,” she said, a smile touching her lips as she looked over at him. “I hoped I might get to see you again one day.”GABRIEL WEST

Heaven had fallen. There was no getting away from the fact. All of his brothers and sisters that had been left tossed carelessly aside by Metatron. From what he’d discovered later Metatron hadn’t told anybody his aim had been to cast them all out, it had been to close heavens doors, to get them all back inside so that they could stop their constant infighting. Metatron had double crossed them all though, barring the doors and letting all of those still inside fall. He might’ve tried to take it all back later but it was all too late, the battle lines had been set between the various factions and Remiel had grown unsure of the intentions of most of those he’d once called brothers and sisters. He’d attempted to remain neutral, refusing to go to one side or another but he was fairly sure that had gone down about as well with his siblings as the return of Azazel had done with Crowley’s little toadies in hell. The one difference was that most of his siblings weren’t plotting his downfall, at least not as far as he knew. Running into Gadreel in town had proven that there were those out there still willing to put their neck on the line for him, even if they had once been cast aside by their own siblings. Remiel knew that remaining in Gabriel West afterwards had been a bit of a risk, especially as his host had put roots down in this town, but the danger was worth it. Gabriel had access to some of the more problematic areas of this town and was willing to share the wheel so to speak. He was providing knowledge and in allowing the angel inside of him a few hours at night, was having his back scratched in return.
It was the angel in charge this afternoon, slowly easing into position the closer he got to the crime scene. Perhaps if he’d arrived a little earlier, if anybody had, the family that had once lived here would have been still alive, standing on the porch maybe, confused about what had happened if their memories had been left intact. Nobody had been there for them though, the first he and Gabriel had known of it was the radio call that had sent him here now. Remiel had been considered how to get into the house, at least without notice, when she’d emerged from the doorway and keen recognition had sliced through the pit of his stomach. It wasn’t until she’d turned towards him, both a smile and his name on her host’s lips that true recognition had kicked him in the ass. ”Hannah.” Remiel blinked for a moment, then chuckled, bending to duck under the tape without further ado. ”I had hoped the same, although given what’s been happening with our brothers and sisters there were truly many I feared were already lost.” Heaven’s civil war had claimed so many who should’ve been coming together not battling against one another. It was as though Hell had gotten its way, shattering heaven’s defenses, leaving humanity open to their nefarious plans. Shifting uneasily on his feet as he came to a stop, Remiel looked past his fellow angel and into the house. ”Have you … seen … what happened in there?” he asked, his voice growing grim for a moment. ”What I heard over the radio, their radio, was concerning.” So many things in this town were. So many lives lost splashed across the front page of Gabriel’s newspaper on a daily basis. Where was it to end?

Making her way to Mystic Falls was risky, after all Hannah had heard rumours about the town and its high supernatural population quite often, but she had known that she and the kids she looked after couldn’t stay where they had been before and which every one of them being a part of the supernatural world themselves it had seemed like a good idea to take them to a place where they could get to know others like them. She had been helping them as much she could but she knew that they needed friends their own age and Mystic Falls could give them all that. She knew that they all needed to be careful, after all there were plenty of seasoned hunters in the town, but they all knew how to keep their heads down and fly under the radar so she knew that she just had to trust that they would be just fine and if anything happened then she knew that she would be there to protect them. They were all good kids who had been dealt a lousy hand in life, they had all been thrown into the supernatural world before they were too young to probably even understand what was going on properly but she had promised Zoe that she would take over caring for them after she was gone and Hannah knew that there was no way that she was going to break her word to the woman and not give Zoe her dying wish. It would have taken Hannah a while to get to grips with hunting had it not been for the fact that she had Zoe’s thoughts and memories to go off of and whenever she found herself in a situation where she needed to fight her instincts took over and it was sometimes like her body had a mind of its own. She knew that it wasn’t really a bad thing, Zoe had become a great hunter before she died so the fact that that knowledge and skill had been passed on to her was a great feeling and she knew that she had to use it to her advantage. Not only was she going to have to work in order to support the kids while they were all in town but she knew that she wanted to continue working cases too and that was what had brought her into town that day. Impersonating an officer was something that she liked to think that she had ended up getting pretty good at and no one even batted an eye at her fake credentials. Making her way outside when she knew that she had seen enough it wasn’t long before she ran into an old friend and she felt a smile touch her lips as he spoke her name. “Why am I not surprised to see you here?” she laughed. Remiel had always been a curious person and with a town like Mystic Falls she realised now that she should have figured out that he was in town pretty quickly. “Some didn’t survive the fall and there were lots of casualties in the war but there are still a few of us around. I wouldn’t be surprised if there are others in town too,” she admitted. She had felt drawn to Mystic Falls and it begged to reason that others would have felt the same. “I have. The police are calling it a home invasion but humans aren’t capable of causing injuries like that. It was something supernatural.”GABRIEL WEST

The warnings not to meddle in human affairs, or the supernatural for that matter, had rung in Remiel’s ears for centuries. As one of those tasked with ferrying the souls of those to be resurrected he had been given a chance to brush up against humanity but God forbid, almost literally, he get too close to them. The rules had kept him practically shuttered up in Heaven when he was actively delivering messages not deemed suitable for angel radio or ferrying one of those souls. His superiors had always said he was too valuable to the cause but as Heaven had begun to crumble it had become more obvious that he wasn’t. They were merely trying to keep that dividing line between humans and angels. By the time the fall had actually happened that line was all but gone. Nearly all angels were down here amongst the humans now Remiel imagined, those few of them that were left at least. Nobody had balked at the idea of him staying amongst them, doing his job on the side while his host continued to try and plumb the depths of depravity in this town in the name of education through news reporting. The people of Mystic Falls deserved to know the truth according to Gabriel West, according to the angel inside of him that was fine up to a point. Nobody really wanted to know the truth of what happened in this house though, except for those like he and Hannah, who it seemed were trying to stop this from happening again.
There’d been a moment of surprise to see her here but at the same time it was very much a relief. With the sheer number of hell’s foot soldiers appearing in Mystic Falls it had seemed overwhelming at times. So many of their kind had backed away from the fight, those that were left were growing painfully outnumbered. Brothers and sisters had fallen in droves thanks to Metatron. Remiel wouldn’t have called himself much of a survivor but that was what he’d proved to be in the face of some pretty awful odds. The smile that Hannah’s words drew from him was broad and almost boyish, most definitely a holdover from his host. ”I’m what some of Azazel’s people have referred to as a cockroach,” he explained. ”Exceedingly hard to kill and apparently faintly creepy. I don’t see the latter myself.” Although he felt the touch of it here. A shiver ran down his spine at the talk of who they’d lost. Remiel slipped his hands into the pockets of his host’s jacket. ”I’ve encountered a few,” he offered. ”Some who are quite resistant when it comes to joining our forces.” In Gadreel’s case at least he couldn’t blame him. Remiel hunched his shoulders, his expression growing serious as he looked into the dark mouth of the open door of the house. ”There was enough in the radio call that I didn’t believe it was a human kind,” he agreed hoarsely. ”Vampire, werewolf, demon?” The categories were rather simplistic given the variety of supernatural creatures out there but they seemed to be at the heart of most of the trouble his host was tracing.

Hannah knew that there were those among her brothers and sisters who wouldn’t necessarily understand why she was hunting when there was still so much that needed to be done in Heaven but not only did she have the other angels to think about now, she also had the kids that Zoe had been looking after. It would have been easy to break her promise to Zoe, take control of her body when she died and leave the kids all alone in the world but that had never been who Hannah was. When she made a promise, even to a human, she followed through with it and that hadn’t changed. Even without Zoe’s feelings and memories remaining when she took control Hannah knew that she still would have done what she could in order to look out for the kids like she had promised and she was still trying to do so now. It had taken them all a while to accept that she wasn’t Zoe and see her as a different person entirely but they had managed it and even though it might seem like a strange family set up the truth was that she loved it and she knew that she would do whatever she had to in order to protect the kids. She had left another angel in charge of running Heaven lately for the most part but she still returned from time to time and she received regular updates and when she was able to find a better sense of balance she knew that she would be able to take back the reins a lot more but for now she was doing the best she could and she knew that she couldn’t do anymore than that. Not only did Hannah want to protect the kids she had sworn to look after but she also wanted to protect Mystic Falls a little while she was there as well. She had seen a few supernatural hotspots over the years but this one seemed to be swarming with the supernatural more than any other she had seen and that was dangerous. She knew that there were those out there who just wanted to live normal lives the same way that the kids she looked after did but there were also those out there that took pleasure in causing others pain and killing and it was those people that she knew needed to be stopped. As soon as she had heard the report about the home invasion that day she had headed straight over, certain that there was more to it and it seemed that she was right. The police seemed happy to pass it off as being a standard home invasion gone wrong but Hannah knew better than that and she knew that the creature responsible was still out there so she knew that she had to stop it before it killed anyone else. “I can’t imagine where they got that idea from,” Hannah said, her tone light and teasing as she spoke. She didn’t find Gabriel creepy whatsoever but then again for all she knew people might find her that way so she knew that she wasn’t the right person to judge. “After the way they’ve been treated I can’t say I’m surprised but I’m gradually changing things up there so hopefully in time they’ll return to the fold.” Not all angels were happy about the direction that she was taking things in but forcing them to return to Heaven hadn’t worked either so she was doing what she could in order to run things better. “None of the above, this felt like something different,” she admitted. “The attack was vicious and something about the body felt off, like the soul had been sucked out of it. I think it was a crocotta.”GABRIEL WEST

Some might’ve said he was taking great influence from his host. Traditionalists amongst the angels would never have allowed it, holding those they inhabited in little more regard than the demons did. They had to ask entry of course, as an angel you couldn’t possess one without their agreement, but it didn’t mean you had to behave once you were in them. Perhaps at first he’d disregarded Gabriel West a little more than he should’ve done but it hadn’t been in an attempt to sublimate his host. It had been a genuine oversight, one that he had realized the full extent of once the panic had really started to grip Gabriel. After that they’d come to an agreement, one that seemed to have been working out better for the two of them. Was there perhaps a little more of his host in himself now? Perhaps, Remiel thought, but surely that was only a good thing. It gave him a better understanding of this town they were occupying. It gave him a human view of it in a way he’d rarely had before. You could pick up human traits all you liked as an angel but it didn’t mean you were any better at being one of them. He tried, he honestly did and maybe met things with a little more gusto and longer ones words. It probably hadn’t gone unnoticed by those he’d dealt with here … like Sam Winchester. The hunter hadn’t recognized him when they had met and saw him as little more than another angel looking to stop him. That wasn’t his intention. Remiel sighed, rubbing the back of his neck ruefully in a very human gesture. He did want to protect those in this town though.
This was one of his ways to do it. He had come to the house with a hope that he could at least find out the truth behind the deaths. If he could then do something with that information to prevent it happening again then all the better. Remiel certainly hadn’t expected to find another angel here but there was a sense of relief when it had been their erstwhile leader he’d found there. He probably should’ve been a little chagrined over what the demons were saying about him but the grin the angel flashed wasn’t rueful in the least. ”I may encourage the former opinion a little,” he admitted, ”but never the latter. Who wants to be creepy?” He shuddered slightly at the thought, remembering the panic he’d felt radiating from his host when he’d started to realise just what he was doing. Hunching his shoulders inside the cashmere sweater Remiel stared at the house. ”There are too few of us left for us to remain splintered,” he said softly. ”How many are back?” His blue eyes had grown serious as they drifted to Hannah again. Sandy brows drew together, the feeling in the pit of his stomach coalescing into a sort of dread. The angels had gone up against many things over the years in protecting humanity. ”A crocotta?” he parroted, troubled by the idea. ”Aren’t they usually far more subtle about these things? This feels brazen, public.” Crocottas were bottom feeders, usually using trickery to fool people into allowing them close before they sucked their souls out. ”Do you think they fought back?” It would certainly explain the violence and made the whole thing far more worrying.

Hannah had known about the reputation that Mystic Falls had before she had moved herself and the kids she looked after there and she had known that it was a risky move but at the same time she had known that being around other supernaturals outside of their little makeshift family was what they all needed. The kids she looked after had all lost their families and didn’t have anyone else and even though she hadn’t known what she was doing at first they had helped her find her feet and now she was doing her best to step up and look after them all just like Zoe had before she died. She hadn’t quite known what she was letting herself in for when she had promised to look after Zoe’s family when she died but the truth was that Hannah wouldn’t be without them now. She had always loved being around her brothers and sisters but angels were completely different. Most of them didn’t show any kind of affection and Hannah hadn’t done for a long time either. It wasn’t their way but the day she had taken Zoe’s body as her new vessel a lot had changed. She hadn’t wanted to ever find herself in the position that she had found herself in with Caroline again where she had taken the woman away from the man she loved, her search had initially been for someone who didn’t have anyone to leave behind but then she had found Zoe. Seeing her fighting the way she was had made Hannah feel connected to her right from the start. She had never been the best fighter but she had stepped up to lead Heaven when her brothers and sisters had been in turmoil and now she was not only physically stronger and a better fighter but she also had better instincts than ever and all of those things had served her pretty well so far. Becoming a hunter hadn’t exactly been the plan when she had been searching for a new vessel to call her own but Zoe had become one in order to protect Lily and the other kids that she looked after and Hannah had taken up that mantel. Now she could finally see why Castiel enjoyed it as well and it felt almost like second nature to her now. It was another way in which she could do some good and if it meant that she could stop some creatures from killing more of her father’s prized creations then she knew that she would do it. Her father may have abandoned Heaven and the angels that had always been loyal to him but Hannah had seen enough of humans to know that they deserved to be protected and she knew that the kids she looked after did as well. The case that she was working now was one that never should have happened but she knew that she could at least try and put it right now and perhaps even have a little help at the same time. “Good point,” Hannah grinned. As he went on to say that there were too few of them left to remain splintered, Hannah found herself nodding. “I’m trying to bring those that remain back together but I’m not forcing anyone to return to Heaven. There is a lot that needs to be done here on Earth and I don’t believe that we should have left it so long before having more of a presence here,” she admitted. She knew that there were sure to be plenty of angels that didn’t share her view, angels that thought that humans weren’t worth their time, but Hannah believed that everyone deserved a chance although of course it was up to the individual to decide what they did with that chance. “There are enough to keep Heaven running smoothly at the moment and I have other angels positioned around the world to keep the peace,” she explained. “I’m thinking of putting together a group to watch over Mystic Falls if you’re interested,” she added, not sure whether he would be or whether he would rather continue doing his own thing. As he repeated what she’d said, she nodded. “Normally they are but I came across an attack that was similar to this a few days ago. The thing responsible covered its tracks much better in that case so I wasn’t sure what it was to begin with but it seems to be getting sloppy and that makes it even more dangerous.” Crocottas normally were careful not to give away that they were the ones responsible for an attack but like with anything sometimes creatures learned to enjoy the thrill of the kill and when they got a taste for it, that was often when they started making mistakes. “I do. There was skin and blood under the fingernails of the woman, she tried hurting her attacker. With any luck that’s how I’ll be able to find him.”GABRIEL WEST

While others had been free to wander the earth almost from the moment that God had tasked them with watching over his newest creations, Remiel had found himself tethered to Heaven. They had called him too valuable, as though others weren’t able to ferry the souls of the resurrected or pass the messages between the archangels that couldn’t go out over angel radio. Even if he had been valuable in away he couldn’t see, what harm could he have come to down on earth then? It was a question Remiel had asked time and time again, only to be told the same answer. It was impossible to accept it, even before he’d taken up residence in a man just as stubborn as any angel he’d ever met. This was where they needed to be to watch over the humans, not hunkered up in Heaven, hiding in the same way God had done before he’d disappeared entirely. It wasn’t until he was down here himself that Remiel had seen the evils lurking. Hell was no longer just a theoretical concept. Lucifer had literally walked on the earth, aiming to slaughter his way through his father’s favourite children. He’d hardly had a roll in preventing it but in being on earth at the right time to save the lives of both Gabriel West and the woman he’d been attempting to help Remiel had seen just how important their presence was. Being forced back to Heaven after that had been gutting. He had proven himself hadn’t he? Apparently not enough to free himself of the shackles he’d been held in almost for an eternity. If Heaven hadn’t fallen Remiel imagined he would still be on that narrow path, following orders like a good little angel.
The people he’d helped in this town would’ve been left to fend for themselves. Some wouldn’t have survived, like the people in the house they now stood outside of. With no help in sight they would’ve been slaughtered. More souls for heaven but more lives snuffed out at the same time. If Hannah was to force those down here back up there the situation would only grow worse. Luckily she had become a leader with enough flexibility not to just cling on to the older ideas. Sandy brows rose as he stared at her, surprise on his face. ”It’s rare that I hear that,” he admitted. ”It was always that we had too much of a presence here, that we were needed back there.” Look how far that had gotten them when Metatron had decided that he knew what was best. ”Am I interested?” Remiel’s voice was dead pan for a moment before he gave a breathless little chuckle. ”Yes, I’m interested. You would have had to force me back to Heaven. I’ve long believed there’s more I can do down here and my host is certainly keen to continue doing what he can for this town.” It had been Gabriel’s interest in the police report that had led him here in the first place. Once upon a time the truth was the only thing he would’ve wanted to publish but since the two of them had come to their agreement Gabriel had realized that some things needed to remain unpublicized. Remiel felt his host’s nausea at the mental image of what a crocotta was capable of slide through the pit of his stomach. ”It’s certainly growing sloppy,” Remiel said with some dread in his voice. How many others like themselves were going to see more than there appeared to be in this attack? Blue eyes ticked to the front door of the house. ”You mean that’s how we’re going to be able to find him?” Hannah wasn’t doing this alone, leader of Heaven or not. Even if she tried to ditch him to do just that, he’d tag right along with her, following the same path on his own if he had to.

Hannah hadn’t spent a huge amount of time on Earth before now but it had to be said that lately she had definitely seen why so many of her brothers and sisters had wanted to stay on Earth. There was a time when she had thought that Heaven was the best place for all of them but after taking up Zoe’s role of taking care of Lily and the kids that she had taken in Hannah had seen just how easy it was to get attached to life on Earth. It had taken her a while to get up to speed with the way things were and she had quickly come to realise that she was going to have to find a job that paid if she was going to stand a chance at providing for the kids and she had been working hard to take care of them all ever since. It had taken them all a while to get used to the fact that she was possessing Zoe’s body but that she wasn’t actually Zoe and Hannah knew that it had hit Lily the hardest out of all of them but thankfully enough time had passed now that they had all grown used to their new normal and Hannah wouldn’t have it any other way. She knew that they could have stayed where they were before but she had thought that a fresh start would be good for all of them and she had wanted the kids to have a chance to get to know other supernatural teenagers like them so moving to Mystic Falls had seemed like a good idea at the time. Hannah had known that it would be risky considering that a high supernatural population was sure to bring with it a lot of hunters and she had been proved right about that so far but she had made a promise to Zoe that she would protect the kids and keep them safe and it was a promise that she definitely intended on keeping. Drawing attention to herself wasn’t a good idea but neither was letting supernaturals go around town killing as they pleased. Hannah knew that some killed accidentally and she could understand that to an extent but there were too many who took joy from killing and it was those that Hannah was determined to stop. She had caught wind of a case fairly recently and she had been working it ever since. At first she hadn’t known what it was that she was hunting but she had soon realised that it was a crocotta and that the one responsible was incredibly good at covering its tracks. Hannah knew that it needed to be stopped before any more bodies turned up but she hadn’t expected to run into one of her brothers while she was working the case although given that the one she had found was Remiel she knew that it wasn’t a bad thing. “I might have believed that once too but I’ve seen the good that we can do here so I believe that we should be helping people before they get to Heaven, not just after they have died,” she explained. It was a belief that not all angels shared and she was used to finding opposition on that front but something told her that she wasn’t going to get that from Remiel and for that she was grateful. Hannah found herself studying him carefully for a moment as he repeated her question and his answer was enough to bring a smile to her face. “Then it looks like this will work out well for both of us. This town seems to be a hive of supernatural activity so right now we need angels here helping where they can,” she explained. Too many people had lost their lives in Mystic Falls already so she wanted to stop any more from dying before their time if they could. “It is and that’s what makes this creature even more dangerous,” she admitted. That was why she needed to track it down and stop it before it was able to hurt anyone else but Remiel’s next question was enough to surprise her. “I appreciate what you’re trying to do but this is going to be dangerous and I don’t want you getting hurt.”GABRIEL WEST

Those small measures of good had never seemed like enough once upon a time. Certain members of Heaven’s elite had gotten themselves hung up on the big picture, fixating on the role that the Winchesters had in this to-and-fro between Heaven and Hell. Those focused all their efforts on it, pushing matters until they’d come to an almost apocalyptic head. No matter how hard he’d argued for the work on the ground Remiel had always found himself drowned out by more powerful voices, patted on the head and sent off to do his work again. It wasn’t until those voices had been silenced one by one that he’d found himself able to enjoy his freedom again. It wasn’t like he was ignoring his work, he still ferried messages as they were needed, he resurrected souls and that, in this town, felt like an almost full time job, but it was more than that. He’d seen from inside as Gabriel West had done his best to use his money and influence to help the people of this town, to provide the truth to them, he’d seen him do more when he’d first come upon him trying to save the young woman from the two vampires. Gabriel had been willing to risk his life for a complete stranger and had almost lost his own in doing so. After that how would he ever have been able to walk away from a situation that he could help with? Remiel knew he couldn’t. He might’ve been cavalier about it at times but every life he helped to save could go on to save thousands, it was the way the world worked.
Thank God, literally in their case, that Hannah believed that they could make a huge difference in these small ways too. Remiel had half expected to be ordered back to Heaven when she’d come across him here. With all that was going on it honestly wouldn’t have been a shock. He smiled at her, pressing his hands together for a moment. ”You won’t believe how long I’ve been waiting to hear that,” he told her honestly. ”I’ve been trying to do that ever since my host relocated here. There are lives we can save, nightmares we can stop before they start.” Only neither one of them had done that today, had they? The thought sobered Remiel a little, although not for long. The moment Hannah explained her plans for having a presence in Mystic Falls the seriousness cracked and he was agreement in just a few seconds. ”Do we shake on it?” he asked with a chuckle, holding his hand out to her. ”Much more than any town should have. I’ll certainly be glad to help where I can.” Starting right here. Remiel felt that dark pall fall back over him as he glanced back towards the house, knowing the sort of damage a crocotta was capable of. They were dangerous to start with, if they were losing control nobody here was safe. ”There’ve been a few others here before, if the newspaper reports are anything to go by.” Sandy brows drew together as Remiel shot a look sideways at Hannah. ”You asked me to help in this town. I can’t do that and go hiding every time something’s slightly dangerous.” Remiel shook his head at her as he crossed his arms over his chest. ”If you’re going after this thing then I am too. Where were you heading when I got here?” Hurt. That was always their concern, don’t let him get anywhere near harm’s way.

Before the fall Hannah had felt like she knew exactly how things were supposed to be and what she and her brothers and sisters were meant to do. Their jobs had always seemed so clear, so certain, but after God abandoned them they had been left to try and carry things on without his guidance. Hannah knew that there were some that had strayed from the path after that and she had started to question whether what they were doing was right as well but ever since taking Zoe’s body as her vessel she had realised just how wrong she and the others had been. Humans were their father’s most prized creations and for too long they had been tasked with watching from afar with no option to intervene. A part of her knew that it had perhaps been easier that way but now she had spent time around humans and supernaturals alike she knew that things weren’t anywhere near as clear cut as she had always believed that they were in the past. After she had given Caroline her body back she had gone in search of a new vessel and she had been drawn to the fighting spirit that had shone so brightly in Zoe. She had wanted to help the hunter after she had been fatally wounded on a hunt and she had ended up making a promise that she had never thought that she would make. Hannah had promised to take care of the children that Zoe had taken in and during the time that she had been with them she had come to love them as if they were her own. She knew that it wasn’t possible, she was an angel after all, but after the initial shock had passed they had welcomed her into their family and she had been with them ever since. She had always felt like she belonged with her brothers and sisters but she had a mortal family now as well and it was one that she would do everything in her power to protect. Being around them had made Hannah realise that she and her siblings had been misguided when they had kept themselves at a distance from mankind. She knew that there were some things that they couldn’t get involved with but there were some things that they could and she knew that she wanted to do her part in making Mystic Falls safer for everyone there. “I understand why we were told to keep our distance but things have changed so much since all of this started and we can’t let humans and supernaturals carry on slaughtering each other the way they have been. We were tasked with watching over and protecting the Earth and I’ve never seen anything like what is going on in this town so I think this is the best place for us to start,” she explained. There were more creatures out there now than there ever had been before and there were forces at work in the town that kept on changing the rules so she knew that they needed to do something before it all got out of hand. “Sure,” she said, a smile working its way across her face as she reached forward and shook his outstretched hand. She knew that she could trust Remiel, she always had been able to, and it was a comfort to know that he was watching over the town as well. She knew that she needed to assign more angels to do the same but finding the right ones who would do as they were told and understand why they had been sent there was going to be easier said than done so she knew that she needed to make her choice carefully. “I thought as much,” she nodded. “Your vessel’s occupation will definitely come in useful, I’ll need you to report back about any strange incidents you hear about so that we can look into them.” Giving orders was still something that she was getting used to, especially when it came to those who were friends, but if Remiel was able to detect any patterns through news reports before they were even printed then they would stand a better chance at getting things under control in the town somewhat. “Alright, I’m not going to argue with you but you’d better be prepared to fight if it comes to it.” Hannah knew that it most likely would so she hoped that Remiel would be ready when the time came. “There wasn’t anything of use in the house so I was going to take a look out here and then check out the victims’ car,” she said, her eyes scouring the surrounding area as she moved around the house. There didn’t seem to be any signs of a break in and no unusual footprints that might offer up some kind of a clue so she couldn’t help but wonder if perhaps the victims had let the killer inside. “Let’s take a look in the car. I grabbed the keys while I was inside,” she said, pulling the keys out of her pocket before heading over to the vehicle and slipping on a pair of gloves. Opening the door she leaned over the driver’s side and started looking around, flashlight in hand as she tried to find anything that might be of use. “Check that side,” she said as she continued her search. She was about to give up when she spotted something under the driver’s seat and the pulled out a small business card. “It looks like they visited an electronics shop in town, we should check it out.”GABRIEL WEST

If there was one thing he’d never understood about his brothers and sisters it was their absolute reluctance to allow themselves down to the level of humanity. How could you protect something without understanding it? How could you feel any sort of affection for them, feel any need for what you had been tasked with if you’d never allowed yourself to truly see them? He’d heard reasons why a thousand times but he hadn’t understood them and Remiel still did not understand them now. Humanity had supposed been their father’s greatest creation, something most of their kind had never agreed with. He had, he did. It was why he had begged so hard to be allowed out of heaven without some poor soul being resurrected in tow. He’d wanted to be more than a messenger boy, a courier. Of course, he hadn’t wanted it to happen the way it had happened but now that he was here Remiel knew he would not go back to the way it had been. Even if Heaven could be brought back to its glory under Hannah’s leadership, he would not be penned up again, not when he had seen a better way down here amongst them all.
Shaking his head, Remiel shrugged at their current leader. He couldn’t lie and say that he understood it at all. To do so would make him no better than every other hypocrite who had ever called Heaven home. ”I don’t,” he said simply. ”What good were we leaving them to tear themselves apart for millennia?” There hadn’t been some new sudden change, just that his brother and sisters had their eyes opened by the fall. His had been for so much longer but he wasn’t about to hold that against Hannah now. Remiel looked around him and sighed. ”I agree. Honestly? You would need to drag me away from here.” She undoubtedly would, if need be, but he was glad to know that for now this was exactly where Hannah wanted him to be. His smile was beaming as Hannah shook his hand to settle their little deal. His brows hitching at Hannah’s comment about his vessel’s occupation, Remiel chuckled. ”Oh, it’s already proven quite handy. I’ve even had to rein him back a time or two when he’s attempted to dig too deep. There are archives at the newspaper that would raise your hair about things that have happened here.” Thankfully the scares he had given Gabriel when he had taken up residence again had convinced his vessel that discretion was the better part of valour.
The smile had dimmed somewhat when it had sounded like he was perhaps to be side lined from this fight. His chin came up now, his shoulders squaring. ”I am more than prepared to fight … especially after what that thing has done here.” It would be a relatively unknown foe though, unlike the demons he usually took on. Making a sound low in his throat Remiel headed in the other direction from Hannah, pausing in front of windows, checking the ground for unusual signs of activity. There’d been nothing by the time they returned to the front to meet again. ”How can there be no signs?” he asked, shaking his head as Hannah retrieved the keys. He didn’t need to be told twice. He pulled the sleeves of the sweater he wore down over his hands, feeling Gabriel’s internal wince at the idea of the cashmere being ruined. Remiel opened the other door, checking the passenger side, the back seat. He was on his knees to check under the passenger seat when he saw Hannah straighten up. ”An electronics shop … somewhere something could interfere with their devices … phones … computers.” People left so much of themselves on their devices these days. Straightening up, there was a grin back on Remiel’s face. ”Fast or slow?” he asked. Their way of travelling or the human one.

Hannah had seen the way that Castiel was around the Winchesters for years and she had seen a bit about the hunting life during her time with him. Back then she hadn’t felt sure that it was the place of angels to interfere in that way but after taking over Zoe’s body as her vessel she had inherited those instincts from the woman along with all of her skills. Hannah had made a promise to Zoe that she would look after Chloe and the kids that Zoe had taken in and even though she hadn’t promised to continue hunting it was something that she felt like she wanted to do. More than anything right now she wanted to keep the kids she looked after safe and given that they were all a part of the supernatural world it meant that they could easily have targets on their backs. She had moved them to Mystic Falls in the first place because she had wanted them to be in a place where there were others like them and they seemed to be making friends which was all she had wanted for them. Finding a balance between being there for them and running Heaven wasn’t easy but she was doing her best and she could only hope that in time she would figure something out. Giving up on the kids or Heaven just wasn’t an option and even though at the moment she was trusting one of her brothers to run Heaven in her absence most of the time but that was only a temporary solution until she found her feet properly so she was going to continue doing her best. She hadn’t been in town for very long so she still wasn’t sure who was in town at the moment but seeing Remiel was definitely a relief. He was one of the angels that she had always felt like she could trust the most and it didn’t look like that had changed. “Exactly. I was reluctant to get involved with all of this at one point but now I’ve seen just how bad things are here and I know how important it is that we all do what we can,” Hannah admitted. In the past she had done her best to follow orders but she had started to question things on her own and now she was glad that she had done. She hadn’t for one moment thought that she would end up in charge of Heaven but the other angels had only ended up squabbling among themselves. Not all of them agreed with the way that she was running things but things seemed to be getting better and she knew that she wasn’t going to give up until things were as good as they could be. “I know the feeling,” she admitted as Remiel said that she would have to drag him away from Mystic Falls. It definitely had a certain kind of charm about it and she felt more at home there than she had done anywhere else in a long time. “I know this town is full of supernaturals so that doesn’t surprise me.” There were people in town who seemed happy to cover up what was really going on and she knew that that was a good thing. If everyone knew about the supernatural then there would be panic and no one would be safe so it really was better this way. “I’m glad to hear it,” she nodded as Remiel said that he was prepared to fight. Not all angels were fighters and Hannah knew that she hadn’t been much herself in the past but that had changed after she took Zoe’s body for her vessel. “Your guess is as good as mine.” There should have been some sign of what was going on but so far there weren’t any and that just meant that they were going to have to work that much harder to figure this out. Finding the business card was the first lead that they had and it was one that Hannah knew was worth following. “It’s worth checking out,” she nodded before feeling a smile form on her face at Remiel’s question. “Slow. I brought the car, it’s best not to draw too much attention to ourselves.”GABRIEL WEST
