Josie was starting to think that there was never going to be a dull moment in Mystic Falls. Right now her main focus was training and making sure that she and her friends were ready for when they had to face Raziel again but her dad had helped her realise that she needed to make sure she had some time to be a kid now and then as well. It was so easy for Josie to throw herself into the supernatural drama and forget about everything else and if she was honest she knew that she had a bad habit of doing that. She had stayed up all night trying to find a way to break Ben’s curse after a dragon attacked and killed Jed and she had been agonising over the first fight with Raziel as well. That day had changed Josie’s life. They had finally managed to get the bracelet to work and stop the creatures from tracking Ben down and killing him but his father had decided to make his displeasure known by attacking them. He had been the one to curse Ben and he had tried to warn them against breaking it but Josie knew that they still needed to find a way to break the curse permanently, they also now just needed to find a way to take the sadistic angel down first. Cursing his son for five thousand years for stealing magic from Heaven and giving it to humans hadn’t been good enough, now Raziel wanted to wipe out every supernatural around the world and Josie and her friends were doing their best to stop him. She didn’t doubt that they would be the ones he came for first when he put his plan into action, after all he had made it clear just how much he hated Ben and he hadn’t hesitated in killing her and Hope during the first fight, but Josie knew he had miscalculated. He might have killed them but in doing so he had only made them stronger. He had triggered Hope’s vampire side and Josie had died with Hope’s blood in her system. They all knew what the angel was capable of now so Josie knew they weren’t going to make the mistake of underestimating him again but finding a way to bring him down was proving to be much easier said than done. Needless to say Josie knew that she needed a break for a while and since Hope was busy with her family and Jed was spending the day with Ben, Josie decided to seek out MG and see if he was free to hang out with her for a while. She knew that he had a lot going on right now since Stefan was infected by the same virus that had infected the kids who had attacked the Salvatore School and she suspected he was putting on a brave face just like he had when Ethan died with MG’s blood in his system but that was why Josie had wanted to talk to him one on one and see how he was really doing. It was always easier to talk away from listening ears or anyone who might judge and that was what had brought Josie to the Boarding House that day. The house had been put into her dad’s name years ago for security reasons from what he had told her so the Salvatores wouldn’t have to worry about any old vampire or hybrid getting into the house but her dad had invited her in pretty quickly after she completed the transition. It meant that she was able to hang out with MG whenever she wanted to and she didn’t have to stand around awkwardly outside waiting for someone to hear her. Stefan had told her a while ago to just let herself into the house when she got there so she pushed the door open and stepped inside, listening for a moment for any sign of movement. “Hello? Is anyone there?” she called out when she heard none. DAMON SALVATORE

If there’d been one sure fire way to avoid a boarding house full of people, it was to spend the majority of his time at Claire’s place. Of course, that meant having to trail back here for fresh laundry every now and then, and to spend time with his little brother, but those days were rare. The rest of the time the place could be crawling with Stefan’s waifs and strays and he wouldn’t even know.
Damon pulled up outside the Boarding House, glad to see that he’d been right. There were no vehicles outside, no signs of life inside the house. That meant he’d probably get the place to himself for a couple of hours. Maybe once Stefan got back he could talk him into going for an early evening drink (putting it well past the border for day drinking). He slipped inside the house, making his way towards the liquor in the living room before he went upstairs. Just because he wasn’t publicly day drinking didn’t mean he wasn’t gonna do it at all. Two fingers of bourbon gurgled into a glass before he replaced the stopper in the decanter and headed for the stairs.
A half hour later there was a wash running in the machine – look at him being all domestic – and he was back in the living room. Sprawled on the sofa, feet up on the coffee table, reconsidering the idea of only turning up here when he thought the place was empty. There were enough quiet spots in his social calendar these days. Between Stefan’s, Claire’s and Ric’s jobs all of his former day time company was busy. That was probably a sign that he should’ve found some sort of gainful employment to fill his time too, but the Founder’s council was about as work as he wanted to take on.
Sipping from his refilled glass, Damon stared idly across at the opposite wall. Giuseppe would’ve been rolling in his grave at the thought of his vampire son sitting alongside the people trying to keep this town free of the supernatural pests that had taken it over. If he’d had his way they all would’ve been stamped out, including his own sons. As though toasting to his failure, Damon smirked and raised his glass. To a father who’d failed. The mouthful went down smooth, the next one too. He was leaning over to pour another when the door opened and a young voice called out. Not Elena or Tatia, not Bonnie or Caroline either. Who else did Stefan have dipping in and out of the place?
Straightening up from his slump, Damon peered over the back of the couch and caught sight of one of Ric’s twins standing there. His lips curved into a faint curve as he lifted the hand still holding the empty glass. ”Hey. In here. If you’re looking for your dad then you’re in the wrong place.” He guessed she knew that well enough and could’ve found Ric blindfolded at the school if she needed to. ”Same for if you’re looking for Stefan.” The only one she wouldn’t be disappointed in looking for was him and he doubted he was the one she’d been in search of. ”You can leave a message if you want. Can’t guarantee I’ll see either of ‘em to pass it on.” This was one thing the modern world had got right, text messages were a thousand times easier and faster than some guy racing through the night on a horse.
