“It would. I’ve been feeling like there was something off about that room for a while,” Toni admitted. He hadn’t known what it was back then but now he knew that it was the fact that it was most likely missing the person it belonged to. The house had never seemed empty with Eli and Elias around but there had been times when Toni had found himself expecting to see another person around the house with them. Anytime he had tried to think of who that person was no one had come to mind – Diego had moved out some time ago and there had been just the four of them living at the house since then, or so he had thought at least. Now it turned out that he and Ethan had another daughter who had been erased from their memories and Toni was determined to get her back. “I remember. Sixty seconds was a new personal best for you,” he chuckled. Ethan was terrible at lying but Toni knew that was a good thing, it meant that he didn’t have to worry about Ethan keeping anything from him because his face would give it away that there was something going on and Toni knew that he didn’t want to keep anything from Ethan either. Toni knew that Diego and Tommy would already be looking into the disappearances, Tommy was a cop which meant that he was curious by nature and Diego wasn’t much better. Toni was pretty sure they would have said if they had found anything so far but he was certain that they would double their efforts now that a member of their family was missing too. Toni knew how protective Diego was of the kids and he knew that his brother wouldn’t want anything to happen to any of them. He had been trying so hard to think of the name of their missing daughter but nothing had come to him and it was only when he’d stopped thinking about it that her name slipped out. The moment it left his lips Toni couldn’t deny that it felt right, though, and he nodded as Ethan said exactly that. “It does. It fits and it feels so right to say those two names together. That has to be the name of Eli’s twin, I’m certain of it,” Toni said as he looked over at Ethan. He still couldn’t remember the girl’s full name since Ela was obviously short for something but it was a start at least. As Ethan told him to stop making him laugh when he was meant to be worried right now, Toni felt a smile form on his face. “I can’t help it, the sound of your laugh is one of my favourite things in the world,” he grinned. Even when they were fighting in the war he and Ethan had found ways to make each other laugh and it was only when Ethan came back into his life that Toni had realised just how much he had missed that sound. It was so easy for Toni to pull Ethan into his arms and hug him tightly and he wasn’t surprised when Ethan hugged him back just as tightly. He could feel Ethan’s fingers clinging onto his shirt refusing to let go and that alone was enough to make Toni’s heart ache. “We don’t but if something does happen then I’ll do everything I can to get back to you,” Toni assured him. He had so many people he loved to fight for now and if he was taken then he knew that he wouldn’t be away from them for long, he would make sure of it. Just the thought of being taken by whoever it was that had taken their daughter from them scared him but at the same time Toni was starting to wonder if that might be a way of getting her back. “I know you’ll try not to but if you can’t fight whatever it is that they do, I won’t blame you,” he promised Ethan. He knew that it had to be powerful if it was strong enough to make them forget their daughter so Toni knew that there were every chance that it might make Ethan forget him as well. As Ethan said that he would find a way to remember him and find a way to bring both him and Ela back, Toni felt a smile touch his lips. “I know you will, I have every faith in you,” Toni said gently, not a doubt in his mind about that. He had always believed in Ethan and the love they shared was so strong that he knew he had to believe that it would be strong enough to break through whatever this was. “I love you too. I’ll never stop loving you,” Toni said as his eyes began to sting with tears that he refused to let fall, letting his hand rest against his husband’s cheek as he leaned forward and pressed his lips against Ethan’s. “I hate that I might end up breaking my promise by going somewhere that you can’t follow but fate brought us back together once and I know it will do it again. You’re my soulmate, I can feel it with every fibre of my being.”ETHAN ALVAREZ
