Tobi didn’t want to be the source of bad news for his parents. He waited a few days, see if any of his siblings spoke up about Kai’s return but it seemed he was the only one who knew. Time was ticking though. Kai would show up on their doorstep any day from now and they needed to be ready. Yet Tobi hadn’t ripped off the bandaid and told them. He just couldn’t find the words. Plus by saying it outloud it made it seem so real. His brother, who killed him, is back from his prison world and is looking to kill them all over again. There were no pools in this house, thank fuck. Tobi was fairly confident he could take Kai down, but there was a tiny worry in his mind that he might lose and end up dead. Again. This time his parents would struggle to bring him back and he’d be stuck on the other side forever. Wandering around aimlessly, bored. It wasn’t just his parents he needed to warn about Kai, it was Evelyn too. For some odd reason his brother had taken a shining to her and Tobi needed to find a way to tell her to stay the fuck away from Kai. He’d like to think Kai’s murderous activities were saved for the Parkers, but who knew with him. Too many screws loose to count. The overwhelming smell of coffee hit him when he stepped into Coffee Bean. It wasn’t a smell he missed. It filled him with dread, reminding him of the days he stood behind the counter with his shitty apron on, trying to remember everyone's orders. The customers would get a coffee, but probably not the right one. He spotted Evelyn as soon as he entered, clearing a table. He rushed over to her, taking the tray from her hands and placing it back on the table. “We need to talk. Urgently.” Tobi took hold of Evelyn’s wrist, pulling her away from the table and out of the store. Once they were outside he let go of her, turning to face her, “So… I believe you’ve met my brother. Kai?” He was still building the conversation in his head, trying to figure out how to tell Evelyn to keep clear of Kai without saying too much. He couldn’t exactly start the conversation by telling Evelyn his brother had committed multiple homicides. EVELYN MONET

━ you knew somewhere deep it was too good to be true ━
IT didn’t matter what she did, Evelyn just couldn’t catch a damn break. If it wasn’t her father or his followers causing her issues it was someone else. This time, though, it wasn’t her father. It was a new warlock named Kai Parker. That night continued to run through her brain. The very fact that he knew of her before she even knew who the hell he was sent her on edge. It definitely didn’t help her paranoia that was for damn sure. Now she had someone else to look out for? What the hell was it about her that screamed ‘TERRORIZE HER!’ Not a damn thing, but then she realized she knew exactly what it was, her power. It always came back to the power she possessed. Sometimes Evelyn wished she hadn’t been born with any powers. No magic, no headaches. She wished desperately daily that she was born normal, that she was born with normal parents with normal jobs. But no, she didn’t get that luxury.
Since her run in with Kai, Evelyn had been on high alert. Somehow Kai knew about her and her father. Somehow he was notified about the Monet’s and the power they each possessed. But Kai wasn’t so much focused on her as he was on her father, which had its pros and cons. Pro because he wasn’t solely after her or her magic, of course that’s not to say that he wouldn’t try to come after it later. Con was that she knew he would try and use her to get to her father and not in a good way. From just her once interaction with Kai, Evelyn knew that he would use her as bait to get her father to come to town. Make him come to him so that he could take all of his power for himself. But Kai shouldn’t underestimate her father either. William Monet wasn’t someone to be messed with, she knew that from experience.
Of course the world didn’t stop just because someone else had shown an interest in her. She had to go to work and honestly, she welcomed the distraction. The less she had to think about the better and working in the coffee shop didn’t take much brain power. Coffee recipes were easy and she went straight into robotic mode the moment she clocked in. One coffee after another, one pastry heated up after another, repeat. Pretty standard day at work and she hoped it stayed that way, she honestly didn’t think she could take yet another day of chaos. Of course, with who she was and with what town she lived in, she knew that was too much to ask for.
As she was wiping down the tables, she heard the bells chime above the door. Looking up briefly she saw Tobi walked in, well, more like rushed in. Evelyn stood up straight as Tobi all but ran over to where she was, taking the tray she had been holding from her, and told her that they needed to talk… urgently. “Alright…” She said as she wiped her hands on her apron before Tobi grabbed her wrist and tugged her outside of the shop. Once he released his grip on her Evelyn crossed her arms over her chest as she listened to him talk and at the mention of Kai her eyes widened. She didn’t know why she didn’t put the pieces together beforehand. Kai and Tobi were brothers. Shit.
“Unfortunately, yes,” She began as she tightened her ponytail. “He seemed to know me before I even knew who the hell he was. And I think,” She paused, “I think he’s taking an interest in me, and not the good kind.” She said, her face filled with worry. Kai was definitely the type of person she wanted to stay as far away from as possible, but something told her that wasn’t going to be as easy as she hoped it would be. Maybe Tobi could provide her with some more insight into his brother, something that could prove useful.

When he came from the dead the first thing he asked his parents was could Kai break out. His dad tried to lure him into a false sense of security by assuring Tobi there was no way Kai could get out. Bullshit. His brother was held there by magic. There would be a loophole. There was always a fucking loophole. Prime example was the fact Tobi and his siblings were alive again. Kai had gone and found the loophole too, putting them all in danger. He was just praying none of this would involve Evelyn. They didn’t need more collateral damage in Kai’s warfare against the rest of his family. Kai tried to deflect the blame onto their dad for what happened. Tobi would be the first to say their dad didn’t help the situation and certainly added fuel to the fire. There were only so many times you could belittle your child before they snapped. This eventually led to Tobi’s temporary nightmare, where he was haunted by visions of something bad happening to his family. Something involving Kai. But his mom told him he was a warlock, not a physic.. The dream was just a dream. Nothing more. He wasn’t going to watch Kai drag Evelyn down with his shit though. She didn’t deserve it, even if she would constantly complain to Tobi when he was late to work almost every single day. It wasn’t his fault that he struggled to get out of bed. Sometimes it was sheer laziness, other times it was because he had one too many beers at Campbell's Bar then smoked himself into oblivion. Anyway, he was never more than an hour late. “What do you mean not the good kind? What has he been saying to you?” The panic was evident in his voice as he spoke. What the fuck did Kai want with Evelyn? “There’s only so much I can tell you but you need to stay away from Kai. He’s… he’s not a good person.” Although it already seemed that Kai had made a bad impression on Evelyn to begin with, so convincing her to stay away from him wouldn’t be too much of a chore. However, there was no way he could keep Kai away from Evelyn. EVELYN MONET

━ you knew somewhere deep it was too good to be true ━
EVELYN’S interaction with Kai wasn’t a pleasant one. As a matter of fact it had been a nightmare. From the moment Kai Parker had walked into the coffee shop, it had been a nightmare. What she thought was going to be a nice easy shift, turned into something much worse. For one, she found out that Kai wanted to use her to get to her father. In a nice twist of irony, the siphoner wanted her father’s magic for himself. He wanted them to ‘work together’ to get something they both wanted: her father’s magic for him to siphon and for her to finally be rid of her father forever. The caveat? Kai would be invincible. The amount of power that he would have after taking her father’s would be insurmountable. Plus, what’s to say he wouldn’t come after hers once he got what he wanted from her father? The dude was a psychopath, so she didn’t trust one word that came out of his mouth.
But his proposition was tempting, very tempting.
‘What do you mean not the good kind? What has he been saying to you?’ The panic was evident in Tobi’s voice as he asked her to clarify what exactly she meant. “Exactly what I said. Not the good kind,” she said with a sigh. Looking around briefly she returned her focus back on Tobi, making sure to keep her voice down in case others were listening. “Tobi, he wants to use me to help him get to my father.” She said, knowing how vague that sounded, but there wasn’t a lot she had told Tobi. She had not shared her magical abilities with him, so he didn’t know she was a witch. He also didn’t know a whole lot about her past, or about her family issues. She really hadn’t told him much, especially about her father. Evelyn wanted to keep as many people out of her family business as she could, more so for their own protection. It wasn’t anything personal, she just didn’t want to drag others down with her.
‘There’s only so much I can tell you but you need to stay away from Kai. He’s… he’s not a good person.’ Evelyn couldn’t help but let out a sarcastic laugh at his words. “A little late for that Tobi.” She said, sighing heavily. Tobi had no idea that she knew about the true nature of his family, or the fact that he was a warlock. Guess now was as good a time as any with the threat his brother now posed. Keeping her voice low, she spoke. “Listen, I’m fully aware Kai isn’t a good person. I know what he did to you, to your family. I don’t know if you know this but your brother loves to hear himself talk.” She said plainly, trying to piece together how she was going to phrase this next part. ”I’m not going to go out of my way to interact with Kai. But just from the brief interaction I had with him… I think that’s going to be particularly difficult. He seems like the kind of guy that’ll do whatever he wants to get to his goal. Unfortunately for me, he wants to involve me in his plans whether I like it or not.” She said. Kai wasn’t going to give up and Tobi telling her to stay away from Kai was a lot easier said than done.
Finally, she decided to reveal what the meeting was actually about. If Tobi had no idea she was a witch or that she knew he was a warlock, he was about to figure it out. “Kai’s after magic, Tobi. He’s after power. My father possesses a lot of it and somehow Kai figured that out.” How exactly he found out about her father was still a mystery to her. But once again, her father is putting her in danger. It didn’t matter what she did, somehow, someway, her father was still finding ways to screw her.

It was difficult to say what kind of punishment Kai deserved for killing the family. His parents either thought death was too kind or they couldn’t bring themself to kill their child. Tobi had fantasised about killing his brother, but did have the balls to actually carry out the act? To snatch another person's life? He had no idea. It was one thing thinking about it but it was another thing to actually do it. “Why does he want to get to your dad?” There was a sense of panic in his voice as he spoke. No matter how much he pretended, obviously there was a part of Tobi that was terrified he would be killed again. He couldn’t be arsed to go back to the other side either. It was endless hell over there. Boring and cold. The only good thing was that he could watch anybody and they’d have no idea. At first he hated that because he had to watch his parents go through the grief of losing multiple children. Liv and Luke were too young to understand fully what was going on, but Jo was heartbroken to lose her siblings. It felt like him and his family were trapped in some never ending nightmare. It was one of the reasons he was desperate to pry himself away from the coven from a young age. With magic came trouble. Every fucking corner he turned there would be something. Tobi had absolutely no intention of using his magic for the better good either. No, he was out there making daylight rings for vampires and selling them for an eye watering price. His mouth ran dry when Evelyn told him she knew what Kai had done. “What exactly did he tell you?” The psychopath couldn’t resist running his mouth and revealing their past to Evelyn. He probably bragged about the whole thing too, acting like he was some untouchable God. “Evelyn he will kill you to get what he wants.” Speaking from experience. He then shook his head, “I won’t let him get to you.” This was a whole new side of him Evelyn was seeing. Gone from being the silly barista in the Coffee Bean to this serious person. “Fuck sake.” Tobi exclaimed loudly, throwing his hands up in disbelief, “How did I not figure out you are a witch?” Well, there were many reasons. Number one, Tobi’s brain was usually working at a steady ten percent when he worked at Coffee Bean. “You know he's a siphoner, right?” Tobi pinched the bridge of his nose, trying to formulate a plan. “My parents will have him locked up again soon. I promise. But in the meantime just don’t let him get near enough that he can suck you dry of magic.” EVELYN MONET

━ you knew somewhere deep it was too good to be true ━
EVELYN wasn’t exactly the type of person to go parading about her abilities as a witch, something Kai clearly lacked. Unless she told somebody or they were the kind of creature that could detect magic, no one would ever know. Plus, with her father still being hell bent on getting to her, she didn’t want to attract any more attention to herself. It’s why she worked in a coffee shop, because it was discreet. Nobody would think to look into a barista as someone with immense magic. Keeping her life as secret as possible was how she stayed alive, how she kept her father in the dark. The absolute last thing she ever wanted was someone throwing attention onto her… which is exactly what Kai would do to her because of what he desired - her father’s magic.
Of course the moment she started talking, Tobi would have questions. Questions she was entirely sure she wanted to answer. But she trusted Tobi, more than just a coworker. ‘Why does he want to get to your dad?’ Evelyn sighed heavily, not knowing where to even start having this conversation. This wasn’t going to be an easy conversation and one she really didn’t want to do in public. But it was clear that she would have to tell Tobi the truth, for his own sanity. She could hear the panic in his voice as he spoke. If there was anyone who knew Kai and what he was capable of, it was Tobi. They were brothers after all and boy was she sorry that was the case. She didn’t know what she would do if she had a psychopath as a brother.
‘What exactly did he tell you? Evelyn, he will kill you to get what he wants. I won’t let him get to you.’ Oh he told her everything. Her entire conversation with Kai was like listening to one long villainous monologue. If she didn’t know any better, she would have thought she was watching a play. One thing she knew about Kai was that he loved to hear himself talk. What really disgusted her though was the fact that he bragged about what he did to his family, like he was proud of the horror he had caused. It sent literal chills down her spine just listening. Listening to Tobi talk, her eyes softened slightly as he told her that he wouldn’t let Kai get to her. Too late for that. But hearing the concern for her was nice to hear, especially coming from Tobi. This was a side of him she hadn’t ever seen before.
“Tobi, Kai told me everything that happened. What he… what he did to you, to your family. He practically bragged about it.” She explained, clearly disgusted about Kai and what he had told her. “I think it’s a little too late to keep him away from me…” Too late indeed. Kai had set his sights on her and her ability to draw her father out. If there was one person who could get William Monet out of hiding, it was her. But did she really want her father coming to town? No, not preferably. Not at all honestly. Her father was nothing but trouble, causing mayhem wherever he went. But was he any worse than Kai? She didn’t know and she wasn’t so sure she wanted to find out.
‘Fuck sake. How did I not figure out you are a witch?’ Tobi said loudly as he threw his hands up in complete and utter disbelief. Evelyn looked around them as he yelled, hoping no one heard that. Well, because she was good at hiding it. Evelyn sighed and grabbed a hold of Tobi’s arm, dragging him into the nearby alley beside the coffee shop. “Because I’m really good at concealing what I am.” It was as simple as that. Upon hearing Tobi mentioned how Kai was a siphoner she only nodded. Oh she knew alright. And then he explained how his parents would have him locked up again, and then told her to not let Kai get anywhere near her. “Honestly, Tobi, I think he’s more focused on using me to get my father here than anything else. My father he… he’s a very powerful warlock. He’s a lot like Kai actually, a psychopath who is hell bent on getting as much power as possible. If Kai were to get his power…” She didn’t want to think of what might happen. On one hand her father would be powerless, but then again, Kai would have all that power and there was no telling what he would do with it. This was truly a lose lose situation.

There were only so many ways Tobi could tell Evelyn it was no longer safe for her in Mystic Falls without terrifying her. Kai had set his sights on her and her dad. The pair of them would be dead by summer, if Kai was still roaming around the streets. But at least she was taking this seriously, not brushing Kai off like some harmless person. Just how their family brushed Kai off, believing he wasn’t capable of killing his siblings. His eyes fluttered shut for a moment as he stifled his tears. It was bad enough that Kai had killed Tobi, but it hurt more knowing his brother wasn’t even sorry for his actions. He was proud. There was a time where Tobi would have jumped in front of a moving vehicle to save Kai. A time where he loved his brother so deeply. That love was completely shattered now, fading to nothing. There was no love felt towards Kai, only hatred. “I’ll speak to my parents. We’ll sort him out.” Afterall Kai was their responsibility. If anything was to happen to Evelyn then Tobi would feel a heavy sense of guilt, blaming himself. “You need to tell your dad, if you haven’t already.” Maybe he was coming across as being a little dramatic, but he didn’t fucking care. Tobi had been drowned by the same person who was trying to get to Evelyn and her dad. Evelyn was at the complete opposite end of the scale compared to Tobi. He wasn’t good at concealing what he was. He tried, but growing up in a house full of magic he was quick to use without engaging his brain, remembering not everyone was used to seeing acts of magic. People like Sadie. If this was the late sixteen hundreds he would have been burnt at the stake years ago. He let her drag him into a nearby alley, away from listening to ears. “So we’re dealing with two psychopaths. Fan-fucking-tastic.” His cheeks filled with air before he puffed out, “Sorry. I’m just… scared.” This was the serious side of Tobi that he liked to keep buried. The part of him that couldn’t process the fact his own brother held his head underwater until he stopped fighting back. The part of him that wasn’t as cocky and confident. “Would your dad kill Kai if he came for him?” His parents were keen to get Kai back in the prison world, but if Evelyn’s dad was prepared to kill him then it was a solution to their problems. ━ you knew somewhere deep it was too good to be true ━
IT didn't matter what she did, trouble always seemed to find her. If it wasn't her dad causing her issues it was some other psychopath. Kai was just another psychopath that she had encountered, one more person who wanted to use her for her magic. It was a two edged sword type of situation - if she worked with Kai, her father would have no more magic and he wouldn't be able to hurt her or those she cared about ever again. But on the other side of that, if Kai got her father's magic he would be indestructible. Invincible even and given what kind of person Kai was... that would be catastrophic for everyone in this town. There was no telling what Kai would do with her father's power if given the chance.
So, which was psychopath worse?
Both. Both were worse and Evelyn was suddenly in the middle of what could turn out to be a really dangerous magic war.
'I’ll speak to my parents. We’ll sort him out. You need to tell your dad, if you haven’t already.' If only it were that easy. If her father was a normal parent, she most definitely would warn him. Try and protect him by any means possible. But William Monet was anything but a normal, loving parent. He was every kid's worse nightmare. He had no care in the world for his only child, all he wanted was power, as much as he could get. He was searching for a way to get her power from her, to drain her of every last drop of magic she possessed. She wouldn't let him ever get the chance.
Of course when she told Tobi, finally, what she was, Tobi was definitely shocked to say the least. He couldn't believe it when she said she was a witch. But she meant what she said, she was good at hiding what she was. The less people knew that she was a witch, the better. It was how she stayed protected... and hidden. Evelyn crossed her arms as she leaned back against the. brick wall of the alley she had dragged Tobi to and she listened as he spoke. She sighed at his comment, "Unfortunately, yes. My father is just as bad as Kai, Tobi. If Kai got my father's magic.... there is no telling the amount of chaos and destruction he would cause." She said, being honest with him. Upon hearing him say he was scared she reach her hand out and placed it on his shoulder reassuringly. "I know, I am too. I'm always in a constant state of fear that my father is going to find me and take my magic and kill everyone I care for. Your fear is reasonable, Tobi." She said, opening up even more to Tobi, someone she cared for, someone she called a friend.
She knew Tobi didn't like to open up like to to anyone, he usually kept his emotions hidden, buried deep within. Seeing him like this was a wake up call. Kai was dangerous and she could tell he has done some real damage to his family. Hell, he murdered his entire family so she wasn't at all surprised that Tobi was terrified of his brother. 'Would your dad kill Kai if he came for him?' Tobi's question took her off guard, but she didn't need any time to answer. "Yes. Yes he would." But then her father would be in the same town she was. He already knew where she was by the men he sent after her, but for him to be presently in the town where she was? She wasn't so sure she could handle that. She wasn't sure she was ready. The last time he was in the same town she was in he had killed one of her closest friends, her best friend, and had delivered her severed head to her in a box. The psychopath even put a bow on top.
But maybe there was a way the two of them could work together? Solve both of their problems in one fail swoop? "Maybe there's a way for us to both get what we want..." She said, taking her hand off of Tobi's shoulder. Maybe they could both rid the world of two psychopaths? Were they strong enough to do that? But maybe so... she did know some pretty powerful beings herself, and she knew the next person she needed to make a call to. Castiel.

One thing was for certain. Kai couldn’t beat them alone, which is why he was begging for help for others. Not even begging. Forcing them. So as they kept him away from any kind of magic Tobi was certain they’d beat him again. Hopefully this time his parents will agree to put an end to Kai’s life. An eye for an eye. He frowned slightly at Evelyn’s comment, “Your dad is a psychopathic murderer?” If it was down to Tobi he’d run. Not because he’s a coward or scared of Kai but because life was too damn short to be entering into some fight which could end his life. Her comment struck a chord. Sometimes it felt like he was being a little over dramatic when it came to his brother. Like his hate wasn’t warranted but like Evelyn said it was. Everything he was feeling was justified. He’d spent twenty fucking years on the other side so it was reasonable to want to cling onto his life as hard as possible. “Neither of them will get to us. I promise.” Whatever happened Evelyn was with him now and he wouldn’t let Kai kill another innocent party. Especially not his friend. Usually if you threw Tobi in a serious situation he’d find some way of making a joke out of it. Everything in his life was light hearted and not that serious, but when it came to Kai shit was different. “Well that’s one silver lining. My brother isn’t as powerful as your dad it seems. He can’t even produce his own magic.” As kids Tobi would be arguing that didn’t make a difference. Just because Kai was a siphoner didn’t mean he wasn’t a warlock, telling his dad Kai was still a part of the family. “Maybe we should tell your dad Kai is coming for him so he strikes first.” His second suggestion was that Evelyn packs her bags and leaves Mystic Falls. EVELYN MONET - wrap with yours?
