”I want a big dog, big as me. Please, daddy!”
The little girl skipped past the bench he was waiting on spun to grab her dad’s hand. She threw herself backwards, dragging on him until he laughed and sped up.
”Not too big, there’s still got to be room for you in the bed.”
Linc pushed away the immediately bitter thought of ‘lucky kid … a pet and a bed.’ He’d had a right to be angry over the things – the basic necessities - he’d gone without, because everything his parents had been given for him had gone up their nose or in their veins. Had. He also had a duty now to himself, and the people who cared about him, not to spend his eternal life being sour about it. That sort of bitterness was a slippery slope that he’d already spent too much time trying to scramble away from.
Slumping back on the bench, Linc pulled his phone from his pocket to check the time. The poster he’d spotted pasted on a pole outside the club had said that the event was running from two until five, but at quarter to two there were already plenty of people heading towards that corner of the square – hopefully all in search of dogs.
His brows furrowed as he tucked his phone back into his pocket – there’d been nothing from Cassie to say she might be late. Could dogs even be a witch’s familiar? The poster had said dogs and cats (see the website for other adoption opportunities), but in the movies – what he’d seen of them – it had always been cats. If the field was open what was to stop it being a bird, or a snake, or even a hamster? He snickered, covering up the sound with a cough as some old woman walking her poodle scowled at him.
Cassie probably wouldn’t appreciate the comparison, but if familiars were meant to look like their owners it would fit. Small, cute and warm - with teeth that could definitely drawn blood if they wanted to. There was the cheek thing too, although that was more the way hers flushed with colour when she was happy and excited than she’d stuff food in until they seemed like they’d burst. They’d had a hamster in the classroom when he was in the infants, one of them getting to feed it treats every day. One lucky kid got to take it home over the holidays, but it had never been him. He doubted they’d bought hamsters here today, so it wouldn’t be Cassie either.
Catching himself working a thumb nail between his front teeth, Linc dropped his hand to his lap and fisted it. He hoped he hadn’t got it wrong and Cassie would be going home with something today. It wasn’t like he’d been able to tell her he’d help her adopt a cat – and put some money towards the cost of like food and stuff since it was his idea – without spoiling the early birthday surprise.
Luckily the Reids’ shop was on the other side of the square so Cassie wouldn’t end up walking through the event to meet him. He doubted she’d be able to hear the excited yips and barks the way he could either. Maybe the surprise would hold until they walked over there and hopefully he’d see Cassie’s face light up – the way his did as he saw her cross the street and head towards him.
Linc rose, his smile growing with each step she took. So much for Magnus’ warning that vampires and witches didn’t mix. Seven hundred plus years of life had given him plenty of knowledge and experience, but, still, he didn’t know everything. Neither did Hector, although out of loyalty to Magnus he’d probably have supported the suggestion. The only one who’d probably really know was Lawrence, but given the way he’d lectured Cassie he wasn’t gonna ask. Not when it didn’t matter anyway.
The moment Cassie was close enough, he was drawing her in, kissing her. What everyone else said they should be didn’t matter, only how they felt about each other and Christmas – Yule - had thrown open a window for that to fly free from.
”Hiya,” he murmured, drawing back just far enough to look into Cassie’s eyes. ”Nicky didn’t give you any trouble about getting the afternoon off, did he?” If Nicky had been the one there it probably wouldn’t have been a problem, if it’d been Darcey though…
He ignored the way his shoulders wanted to stiffen and took a half step back, letting his hands fall to take both of Cassie’s in his. ”Figured we could take a little walk. We’ve got the weather for it and …” Pride touched his wry smile as he wriggled the finger bearing the ring she’d made him. Cassie had beamed like the sun the first night they’d met at the club, and then she’d literally given it to him.
Twisting around to walk with her, he lifted his chin towards the distant corner of the park that was definitely getting busier. ”Looks like somethin’s goin’ on over there. Does that sound like dogs to you?” Even at a stroll the noise was gonna get obvious fast. Lincoln Crowne, King of the Guileless. Ha!

━ climb that goddamn mountain ━ “C’MERE, KITTY. C’MEREEEEEE,” CASSIE whined at the alley cat like that would help, a big pout on her face, her hands outstretched to show it her hands━a promise that she wouldn’t hurt it. “You could help me! We could help each other, right? You don’t gotta eat outta garbage cans, and I... hey! Get back here! Pleaaasee!” She chased it a few steps before giving up almost immediately. Okay, so maybe street cats weren’t her best bet, but ever since she’d learned about familiars in her last training sesh with Nicky, she’d been obsessed. Seriously, like, Linc had to listen to a whole rant about them, and she was pretty sure she’d talked his fricken ear off about it. Which, y’know, she felt bad, but he didn’t seem to mind that much.
Cassie trudged back inside the store with her shoulders hunched, a heavy huff and grumbles following her. She couldn’t believe this! Why was it so hard to get a cat? And, yes, she knew it didn’t have to be a cat, but it was so much cuter if it was.
She straightened up as she made her way back to the counter, though, ‘cause she got distracted by thinkin’ about Linc.
She didn’t know what they were now, ‘cause, like, they weren’t officially boyfriend and girlfriend (they hadn’t actually said the words and that felt important), but it defs felt like it. Seriously, she’d changed her work schedule so she could hang out with him for the whole rest of the afternoon (and hopefully the night, too), didn’t that kinda scream “dating?!”
Maybe talking about it or making it definitive was childish. Maybe Cassie was just supposed to be okay with this. And, like, she totally was! She wasn’t gonna complain! She just wanted to tell everyone he was her boyfriend without second-guessing it.
Anyway, she was back to swooning by the time she left the shop. Linc had come here looking to defend her after Darcey yelled at her━you wouldn’t do that for someone who wasn’t your girlfriend, or someone you didn’t want to be your girlfriend. So, yeah, whatever way it went, they were totally cool.
Cassie brightened up even more when she saw him, glancing both ways before she rushed across the street excitedly, getting to Linc as fast as she could. And ugh, his smile was so friggin’ cute. “Hiii!” Cassie squealed as she kissed him, her arms sliding around his neck. And she loved this, greeting each other with kisses. She’d never been in a relationship before (obviously), but this might’ve been the best part━getting to kiss Linc whenever she wanted. And allll ‘cause she was brave enough to kiss him during Yule. Which, like, thank you ancestors!
“Why, you gonna go beat him up if he did?” Cassie teased, giggling as she stuck close, staring into his pretty eyes, her own practically twinkling with infatuation. “Nah, he was cool about it,” She confirmed, giving him another quick little smooch before he stepped back and held onto her hands.
She hummed in agreement, bouncing her head happily as they began to walk, “Uh huh!” She smiled at the ring she’d made for him━even if it hadn’t been such a nice thing the day of━and back up into Linc’s eyes, happy that she could do normal things with her semi-boyfriend. Or semi-normal things with her boyfriend.
Aaaanyway, it wasn’t a moment later that Linc was indicating one corner of the park which, until he said anything, Cassie hadn’t realized was filled with people. They looked all spread out between tables and━what were those things black things? Crates?━with a couple of little playpen-type barricades set up. The excited yipping and chattering got louder as they walked closer, but Cassie could already see a bunch of fluffy tails wagging━the most prominent being a golden retriever’s, looking like a big fan in the wind. “Puppies!” Cassie squealed, dragging Linc along as she rushed forward, trying to get closer.
It was a whole shelter thing! An adoption fair! They had bunnies, a few guinea pigs, and cats! So many cats! They were mostly in little carriers, but a few people had them out, and Cassie barely had enough time to pet all the dogs on her way to them. “Ohmygodhohmygodohmygod! Look at all the kittens!” She tried to keep her voice low so as to not scare any of them, and looked at Linc with a huge smile as she squeezed his hand. “Did you know this was a thing today?” She laughed, bouncing at the knees while she (impatiently) waited. “I totally tried to capture a street cat, like, just before I left work. It was hanging out by the dumpsters when I took the trash out, and I was like c’mere! and the cat was like fuck you! and ran away. Is this ‘cause I’ve been talking about… cats… lately?” She wasn’t gonna say familiars, ‘cause that was a little too weird. Even if Wiccans were a thing. Cassie’s eyes ticked excitedly over the laminated papers attached to the cat carriers, proclaiming all their names and relevant information.
“Hi!” She chimed to the redheaded woman when she finally looked at Cassie, “Can I hold a kitty, please? Any of them, I’m not picky.” It wasn’t like she had the money to actually get one, but she wasn’t gonna tell the adoption lady that━she just wanted some lovin’ with a little furball! Was that so bad?

His hands had caught at Cassie’s waist as they came together, drawing her in, letting him feel her joy square in the chest like a jolt from one of those defibrillator things. There wasn’t anything that would really get his heart beating again now, but when Cassie was kissing him it felt like everything that was bright and bubbly inside her was filling him with life too. He’d take every ounce of that life he could get, drinking it down, holding onto it like he would a baby bird, making sure he savoured every minute of it he got. If anybody knew how short life could be, it was the two of them.
Cassie’s fingers warm against his neck, the way her squeal shivered over his skin, the taste of the gloss on her lips. The laugh that rolled out of him as she broke out of the kiss to tease him. Little sensations, little moments they’d nearly lost out on having. When withdrawal had shivered through him he’d tried to remember every moment of it. He hadn’t been able to vocalise exactly what had happened to his dad or to Jo, Linc had realised after. Maybe for the best. Those moments were theirs and it almost felt as though bringing them out into the light would risk burning them away like mist when the sun came out. God, he’d been wrong. This was the sort of thing that always should’ve been out in the light. With the sun shining through Cassie’s hair like a halo and him basking in the glow of her.
Linc’s nose wrinkled as he squinted at her, like the sunshine beamed right out of her smile. He squared his shoulders, shuffling them like he was winding himself up for a fight. ”I’d try,” he puffed. ”If he’s like his brother he’d probably paste me against the floor in two seconds, but it’d be worth it.” Grinning and glad, he met her kiss. He was almost reluctant to pull away from it as he stepped back. They had somewhere to be though, the first pick of the kitties theirs if they managed to shuffle across the park in time.
The ploy he’d written and rewritten in his head spilled out as he started to draw Cassie through the park with him. It twisted around the two of them, wreathed in the continued barking of the dogs – although that felt like it was melting into the background as Cassie’s eyes found his again. Linc drew her in, his hip brushing hers as they walked. Each little point of contact sparked, another little jolt to the chest.
He sucked in a breath. Up close it looked like there were more people here than he’d bargained for. They drifted among the tables and crates, the kid he’d seen earlier bouncing so hard she was almost tipping over into a playpen to get at the retriever. It looked like it was love at first sight, the dog’s tail whirring away. Cassie’s tunnel vision over the animals had her squealing again, dragging him along with her. Linc laughed, jogging with her. ”Puppies and more by the looks of things. Looks like a pet shop out here.” More than one of them apparently. Adoptions were meant to be better weren’t they? They were gonna be saving a cat the same way Magnus had saved a stray kid.
God, had he broken her? Linc laughed breathlessly, watching Cassie, not the animals as a string of excitement tore out of her all in one go. Kittens. Like he’d hoped. He licked his lips, pressed them together as a little smug tried to make its way into his smile. The shrug jiggled with the bounce of Cassie’s knees as they joined the queue. ”I might’ve seen a sign in town a couple of days ago. The local shelter’s putting on an adoption event.” And he’d figured bringing her to it would make her happy, he hadn’t been wrong.
Cassie’s story might’ve sounded wild to anybody else, but he was grinning his way through it. Leave it to her to try and give a home to a street cat. Her heart would’ve swelled to the size of her body with love for it, no matter how ugly and battered it was. ”He probably knew this was going on and wanted to give you a nudge in this direction instead.” Although if the shelter had its way the stray cat would probably end up there in the end. ”Maaaaybe,” he admitted a second before he nodded. It was because she’d wanted this so badly and maybe he could give it to her.
She didn’t have to be psychic to see how excited the girl was. Rhiannon felt the buzz of it though, that pink cloud feeling of young love spilling off of the girl and her boyfriend. ”Hi!” she chirped back. Her eyes narrowed faintly, her grin broadening. This was a girl who wasn’t going to complain about a salmon thief. ”Come on through, I think I’ve got just the one to start you off with. Are you looking to adopt today?” Not all that turned up were. Some just wanted a taste of cute animals before they handed them back for someone else to walk or clean out the litter trays.
Slipping around the woman, Linc let go of Cassie’s hand so she could take a small black cat out of its carrier. It looked like the typical witch’s cat, but was tiny. ”It really looks like a kitten,” he murmured, reaching out carefully with one finger to stroke over the tiny head as the woman handed it over. It purred like a jet engine though, the rumble surprisingly loud. Was that how they all sounded? He huffed out a breath, grinning at the woman. It really was cute.

━ climb that goddamn mountain ━ JEEZ, COULD LINC BE ANY CUTER? IT WASN’T LIKE Cassie had been allowed to watch a lot of TV when she was younger, but she knew the whole trope of boyfriends never listening to their girlfriends. This was totally not that, though. Linc hadn’t only listened, but he’d brought her to, like, freaking Disneyland! She bounced between her feet as they waited in line, passing her weight back and forth, and told him the story of the Dumpster Cat. The one who totally didn’t love her━not like one of these kittens (hopefully) would.
“Prooobably,” She giggled, “Or he was happy with his garbage-eating life. Which, like, whatever━you do you━but ew,” And when Linc fully admitted to planning this all along, Cassie tried not to let her eyes well up with tears. She wasn’t a freakin’ baby, but she’d never had someone do something like this for her before━at least not without some ulterior motive. Maybe Linc just wanted a kiss in exchange for his efforts, and, even if he didn’t, one was comin’ his way!
“Ooooh!” Cassie squealed, bouncing as she threw her arms around his shoulders. She planted a big smooch on his lips, then pulled back to beam at him. “You’re the best.” And he was. Only… she wasn’t sure how she was gonna pay for said kitten, but Cassie figured she’d have enough saved up for the adoption fee… y’know, as long as it wasn’t giant. Then maybe she could get an advance from Nicky or something for the kitty’s other stuff.
So, when the shelter lady asked her if she wanted to adopt, Cassie hesitated, glanced at Linc, then blurted, “Yeah, I think so!” She’d just have to figure out where to hide the litter box so it didn’t start stinking up the back of the store. And anyway, she wasn’t gonna complain about her maybe not having enough money, ‘cause then the shelter lady wouldn’t wanna let her adopt the kitten. “I’ve been trying to find a cat lately. Like, I really want one,” Cassie started babbling to the redhead, setting Linc’s hand free so the kitten could come out and get deposited into Cassie’s arms. “And you are just the cutest…” She read the laminated page on the kitten’s carrier that gave the basics. “… Olive. So teeny,” Cassie hugged Olive in her arms, trying to keep her secure (but still comfortable), one hand shifting up to rub her thumb back and forth on Olive’s cheek. The kitten leaned her head into Cassie’s finger, and the witch got so happy that tears did fill her eyes this time.
Cassie didn’t know what it was, but she could totally, like, feel the power radiating from Olive, and it wasn’t just the loud purring━at least, she didn’t think so. It was the same way she felt how plants were living or whatever, but, like, obviously Olive was a living thing. It was defs a witch thing.
“She is a kitten.” Cassie whispered to Linc, then smiled, turning slightly so Olive was a little closer to him, making her easier to pet. “So, whaddaya think?” She asked, smiling brightly at Linc as she lifted Olive a little bit, putting her tiny face right next to Cassie’s. “We look like the cutest pair, right?” And, even though Cassie wasn’t a piece of salmon, Olive turned her head and scraped her tongue over Cassie’s cheek. Clearly, she knew how to get adopted.
Cassie giggled and pressed a kiss onto the top of Olive’s head in return, already taken with her (hopefully) new kitty. Debt was, like, an adult thing, though, right? She’d be fiiine. She’d figure it out.

Maybe the cat was his kindred spirit – a stray who’d been living in filth when he’d been found by someone who wanted to rescue him. If he hadn’t at death’s door when Magnus had pulled his white knight act he might’ve bolted too. It wasn’t like he’d known all that much kindness before that, and none at all in the last couple of years. When you weren’t familiar with it, it was hard to recognise it, even harder to accept it. It could that Cassie would go back to the shop tomorrow and find the cat waiting on the doorstep, as taken with her as he was. More likely though, the cat would carry on hiding in its filthy little dumpster shelter, trusting what it knew over what could be.
Linc laughed softly, glad that he’d taken the hand that was offered to him. If it hadn’t been for Magnus’ trust and patience he wouldn’t have been here now. He was definitely happy with his breaking away from his garbage-eating life. Happy seeing Cassie’s reaction to the plans he’d put together. He caught her as she bounced against him, her arms thrown around his neck again. Steadying her, settling his hands at the small of her back as he beamed through the kiss. ”I try,” he murmured, pride lighting him up like Cassie had flicked a lighter in his chest. ”I knew how much you wanted one of your own.” Not that he’d known that it’d come right on the heels of the stray cat rejection. That’d been serendipitous.
It would be even more serendipitous (there was probably some word for luck compounding that way, but his vocabulary didn’t stretch to it), if the woman from the shelter had just the cat for Cassie. There were plenty here, but maybe some of them would be like the cat in the alley – too fussy (how could they be with Cassie?). Linc’s gaze settled on the woman’s as she said she had one to start her off with. He clamped his mouth together around an immediate, definite yes as Cassie hesitated and looked up at him. Squeezing her hand in reassurance, Linc smiled. ”Yeah, definitely,” he adjusted. Even if it wasn’t today, if this wasn’t the one, that didn’t mean they couldn’t go to the shelter and see the other cats they had there. There was no way they’d brought every single one of them to this thing.
”That’s just what we like to hear,” the redhead murmured. ”It takes more than want, but honestly, that’s the best starting point.”
That meant that everything else could be figured out later, by the sounds of things. Linc shifted aside to let the woman pass the kitten to Cassie. No matter what the cost for the kitten was, he’d pay it, if they needed a home check to let the kitten go home with them he’d figure it out, maybe sneak it in to the house when Magnus was at the shop and then figure out afterwards what was actually gonna go on. He’d take the lecture about cat fur and who was cleaning out the litter tray if it made Cassie as happy as she seemed to be with Olive cuddled in her arms. The cat looked just as smitten, leaning her head into Cassie’s touch, making tears well up in Cassie’s eyes.
”She’s perfect,” Linc murmured. He didn’t know if black olives were actually black, but maybe that was where they’d got the name from, deviating from the usual Sooty or Smudge or Ebony thing he thought people usually went for when they got all inventive with pets. ”So tiny,” Linc whispered, his smile growing as Cassie lifted her up so they were practically cheek to cheek. ”The cutest,” he said, echoing her words of a moment before. ”I think she’s definitely the one. I know there’s other kittens here, but I think that lick just said ‘you’re mine’. Do you wanna look at the others, or should we jump for her?” He was saying we, like it was their house they’d be taking her back to.
The woman gestured a couple off to one side, towards the dogs that were milling about in a fenced in area (something that definitely wouldn’t have worked for full grown cats at least). She arched one red brow, watching Cassie and the kitten bonding. ”Was I right? Is it a yes? If it is there was some steps we have to go through first. There’s a hundred and fifty dollar adoption fee…” she started before running through the rest of the short list.
Linc was already shaking his head at her, softening the gesture with a smile as he slipped a hand in his pocket, like he was all ready to count the bills out. ”That’s not a problem. I’ll be covering that. If that’s alright with you?” His eyes were on Cassie instead of the woman from the shelter. He hoped she’d let him do this for her.

━ climb that goddamn mountain ━ CASSIE COULDN’T BE MORE FREAKIN’ HAPPY. All she could do to express it, however, was squee-ing and grinning, ‘cause she also had to reel it all in if she didn’t wanna scare the kitty. Which she definitely did not wanna do.
Even Linc thought she was perfect! Cassie tried not to jostle Olive as she bounced a little on her heels, still holding her securely.
She blushed when he agreed that they were the cutest, even though he was, like, kinda definitely her boyfriend now and she would probs hear it a lot. It didn’t make it any less awesome each time she did, though! And she’d totally kiss him again if it didn’t mean finagling Olive around in her arms.
“Oh, yeah, that was defs an ownership lick.” She giggled, smiling down at Olive before letting the kitten relax in her arms again. Well, this was really happening, wasn’t it?! She was getting a cat! Like, finally, but there were also a shit ton of other things she had to figure out. But all that crap could wait, ‘cause she was getting a caaaaaatttt!
Cassie rubbed her finger into the centre of Olive’s head, between her ears, and watched as the kitten closed her eyes in pleasure━the purring confirmed it. “Yeah, I can’t look at other cats; it’d be like I was cheating on her. And I’d make her sad,” She smiled almost sadly, sheepishly, like she hoped he’d understand that she had to give up now. Also, she liked how he said “we”━that was, like, super cute and boyfriend-y of him. She could feel her face getting even hotter.
Then the price came. A hundred and fifty bucks. It wasn’t, like, crazy, but on top of food and litter? It kinda sucked. Whatever, though━she’d just ask Nicky if she could do more to help out around the shop, and hopefully he’d let her keep the cat there, too. She’d bring some character to the place!
But then…
Cassie’s mouth dropped open at him, then she squee’d quietly again. Olive did not seem impressed━especially ‘cause Cassie stopped rubbing her head. “Wait, really?” Man, she was gonna freakin’ cry again! “Like, are you sure? You don’t gotta do this, y’know,” But it was super nice if he did. Cassie started to tear up again ‘cause, yeah, she was a fuckin’ sap, but… like, again, nobody ever did this shit for her. Ever. Linc wasn’t even obligated to just ‘cause he was her boyfriend, either.
“You’re the best.” Cassie whispered, though she’d said it before, and leaned in to kiss him. “Seriously. The. Best. The Awesomest, The All-The-Good-Adjectives-est.” She kinda thought he’d planned it, like it was an early birthday present or something, but she also just didn’t wanna assume. “And… like, I can pay you back, if you’re okay with waiting a bit.” It seemed polite to offer, just in case she totally screwed this up and he wasn’t actually gifting her a cat.
“What else do we gotta do to take this cutie home?!” Cassie asked suddenly, beaming at the redhead, who had to let Olive come home with her now, right?!

He was probably meant to be keeping his eyes on the kitten, smitten with her like Cassie was, but for the most part Linc was looking at her as she bounced. Magnus probably could’ve given him an hour long lecture on ways to make a woman happy (without drifting into the entirely unnecessary birds and bees discussion), punctuating each method with disapproval over which woman he was trying to get to light up, but he didn’t need the help. They might’ve had that little bobble when he’d accidentally nicked her lip the day she’d made him his ring, but outside of that he’d seemed to know instinctively how to put the smile on Cassie’s lips that he could feel in the centre of his chest.
The warmth in her cheeks seemed to coalesce there too, some part of him blushing, heating, the same way her cheeks did. Linc rubbed a fingertip between the cat’s ears. He was definitely gonna have to share a little of her affections now. Lucky Olive didn’t know what she had in store.
He suspected that the woman running this thing knew it too. With Cassie everything she felt was right there to see, beaming out of her fairy light bright, dancing in her eyes, softening in her smile as she turned down the offer of seeing any other cat here. Linc grinned at the woman, her teeth fixing in her lower lip as he nodded.
”You definitely won’t be doing that,” she assured them. ”There’s nothing wrong with finding the right one at first glance.”
Linc glanced at Cassie again. Oh yeah, he knew how that felt, but it hadn’t been easy letting himself believe that he deserved or could handle any of it. Cassie had changed all of that – alright, Magnus had helped some too – giving him the sort of confidence to do what felt right. That had been bringing her here in the first place. A hundred and fifty dollars would’ve seemed like an insane amount of money a few years ago – when it could’ve fed him for a month if he was careful – but now it was more like a night’s work at the bar, definitely a small price to pay for all that happy.
”Happy birthday,” Linc said with a bashful little shrug as Cassie’s mouth dropped open. Had she honestly thought he was gonna bring her to something like this and then let her pay for it. ”We can call her an early present if you want. But, yeah. I’m definitely sure. I wanna do it. You’ve wanted one forever.” And he wanted to make her happy.
The woman was glancing away, obviously giving them space for a second. Linc’s cheeks heated again as Cassie whispered to him, leaning in for a kiss. He brought his hand up, settling it on her cheek, his thumb smoothing along her cheekbone line that would brush away the tears that hadn’t fallen yet. ”You haven’t gotta do that. Honestly. It’s my treat – as long as I can come and visit her whenever I want.” Olive was definitely gonna be a secondary reason for seeing Cassie more. His primary one had just laid the praise on so thick that he felt like he was floating six feet above the floor as he turned towards the woman, his hand closing around his wallet again. We. This was definitely them doing it together.
Grinning, her green eyes flicking between the two of them, the woman gestured towards a table set up to one side. ”I just need a few details from you. Name and address mostly, and the fee.” She was already leading them to the table, sliding a clipboard in their direction to make it all official. Cassie finally had her familiar.
