Ben had never celebrated Christmas before, in the past it had always just been like any other day and last year he had been killed by yet another creature, but this year was different. This year he had someone to spend the holiday with and even though he and Jed had said that they weren’t going to do the whole present thing since they had already moved in together a couple of months ago, that didn’t mean that it wasn’t going to be special. They had decorated the house for the holiday and they had done plenty of other things in the lead up to the day itself and the truth was that now Ben could see why people enjoyed it so much. For him it had been more about spending the time with Jed than anything else but it had all been so special and he knew that he would never forget it. That day they had made plans to see Jed’s family in the afternoon but the morning was theirs to do with what they wanted and Ben knew that he wouldn’t have it any other way. The truth was that right now everything that had happened since he’d arrived in Mystic Falls still seemed a little surreal but if it was a dream then he knew that it was one that he didn’t want to ever wake up from. He had never thought that he would find what he had with Jed and the life they were building together was one that he cherished. There were still times when he wasn’t sure what he deserved everything that he now had but he knew that he was lucky and he wasn’t going to take that for granted. That morning Ben had ended up waking up early and even though he didn’t doubt that they would both end up eating far too much later when they got to Jed’s family’s house, they still had quite a bit of time before that so Ben knew that they might as well make the most of it. Slipping out of bed carefully so as not to wake Jed Ben headed downstairs and started making breakfast for the two of them. They might have both said that they didn’t want anything from the other for Christmas but Ben knew that he wanted the day to be special anyway. He had never really bothered cooking during all those years that he had been on his own but he and Jed had both promised Jenna that they would eat properly once they had their own place and it was a promise that they were sticking to. Deciding to keep it simple and cook bacon, eggs, sausages and toast, Ben poured them each a drink when the food was done and set the two glasses on the tray alongside the two plates before making his way back up to their room. He hadn’t surprised Jed with breakfast in bed before, in fact he had never surprised anyone with it but he had heard about it and it was something that he’d wanted to try so now seemed as good a time as any. Setting the tray down on the table next to the bed, Ben leaned over and pressed a gentle kiss to Jed’s lips to wake him. “Morning,” he said, a smile forming on his face as he looked over at his fiancé. – I freed myself from words never said –
Jed roused from his sleep when he felt Ben press a kiss on his lips. He let out a small groan as he moved his body, slowly but surely waking up. When his eyes opened, they weren't focused at first but soon enough, they were resting on none other than Ben as the edge of his lips quirked up a small half-smile. "Mmm. G'morning," Jed greeted back as he moved his hand up to his eyes to wipe the sleep away from them. Jed eventually did push himself up into a sitting position once his body didn't feel quite so heavy anymore. He turned his attention to the tray resting on the table next to the bed before he let out a soft chuckle. "Breakfast in bed?" He questioned with visible fondness in his words. He knew what day it was, so it made the day even more special to him. Christmas was a holiday that he genuinely enjoyed celebrating, especially when he was living at home with the Saltzman family. They got together, enjoyed a big feast, unwrapped gifts and just enjoyed the Christmas spirit wholeheartedly with no interruptions. This year though, he wasn't going to spend it with just his family at the Saltzman residence, but he was also going to spend it with Ben. Splitting the day in half seemed like the most logical thing to do. He'd told Ben that he really didn't want anything and Ben had told him the same, so today was all about enjoying each other's company for as long as possible before they go to the Saltzman residence to enjoy their time there as well.
"I wanted to do that, but... I forgot that it technically meant that I'd have to wake up first." Jed said with a chuckle falling from his lips not long after. He moved the covers down so he wouldn't get any food on them. "Smells really delicious." Ben's cooking rarely ever disappointed, just like his mom's cooking. He was truly spoiled. "Thanks, Ben." Jed added a moment later, his smile present on his lips.

There was a part of Ben that had been tempted to let Jed continue sleeping. He looked so peaceful like that and Ben always hated to wake him up but it was Christmas and they had said that they would go over to Jed’s family’s place later so that they could spend some time together first and Ben was eager to do just that. He and Jed had both decided that they didn’t want any presents from each other that year, Ben had never experienced the whole Christmas present exchange thing so the truth was that he hadn’t even known where to start but he knew that he didn’t want Jed spending money on him. He already felt like he had been incredibly lucky that year, Jed had found him and turned his whole life upside down but Ben knew that he wouldn’t have it any other way. Now they were living together and they were engaged so he felt like he had everything that he wanted right now. Instead of letting Jed carry on sleeping Ben greeted him with a kiss and a smile touched his lip as Jed began to stir. It was clear to begin with that he was still half asleep but he started becoming more aware and Ben nodded as Jed spoke again. “That’s right. It’s a special day so I thought we might as well do it right,” he said, his smile returning as he joined Jed in bed once more. It would be so easy to stay there all day but Ben had a feeling that would be a bit of a waste so they would do something else later but right now this seemed like a pretty good start. “I almost didn’t want to wake you, you looked so peaceful,” he added, taking Jed’s hand in his and lifting their joined hands before pressing a light kiss to Jed’s knuckles. “Did you sleep okay?”As Jed spoke again, Ben couldn’t help but laugh. “It would be quite difficult to make breakfast from here,” he chuckled. “That’s okay, I know we agreed on no presents but I wanted to do something for you anyway,” he added with a grin. He really had hoped that Jed would think of something that he wanted for Christmas so Ben could spoil him a little but he hadn’t and Ben respected that. Instead making breakfast in bed for both of them was something that had seemed fitting and he was glad that Jed seemed to like it. “We’ll have to thank your mom for the cooking tips, I never bothered when it was just me,” he grinned. It had never seemed worth it but it was different now that he and Jed were living together. They had promised Jenna that they would eat properly and it was something that they were trying to stick to. “You’re welcome,” he said, his eyes full of love for Jed as they met his. “Better eat up before it gets cold. I hope you’re hungry,” he said even though he knew that Jed usually was as he settled the tray on the bed between them so they could both tuck in. JED SALTZMAN

Jed's lips stretched into a grin as he looked at the food that Ben had prepared for him while he was asleep. Jed had wanted to do that for him instead but he ended up oversleeping so now it was Ben who'd gotten up to make him something to eat to start their day with. "Yeah, it's definitely a good start." Jed said with a quick nod of his head, his eyes focused on Ben as he spoke. "It's fine, I'd have overslept anyway and I don't want that." Jed shrugged his shoulders, not at all bothered by the fact that he was awake now. If anything, he was glad that he was. He felt a soft smile tug on his lips at the kiss pressed to his knuckles. "Slept like a baby." Jed replied with a grin on his lips. Jed rarely ever had any trouble sleeping whenever he was with Ben, he just felt safe.
Jed chuckled at Ben's words before he feigned a disappointed sigh. "Guess being a hybrid doesn't come with everything, hm? Would have loved to do the breakfast from here. But you win this Christmas. I'll win next time and make you something to eat in the morning." Jed promised with a smile tugging at the corner of his lips, his eyes relaxing on Ben once more. "This is perfect." It felt more like a romantic gesture than an actual gift and he loved that even more. He'll have to return the favor in some way before the night ends then cook for Ben next Christmas, too. "You picked up quickly from what mom told me." Jed said with a quick nod of his head following. "I'm pretty sure you're her top favorite student."
Jed nodded his head at Ben's encouragement to tuck in. He grabbed the fork and started eating. "Mmm, it's pretty good." Jed mumbled between chewing as he took a bite from literally everything that Ben had on the plate because he wanted to try everything all at once. "What a great way to start the morning,"

Even though they weren’t getting each other presents that year, there was a part of Ben that had still wanted to do something special for Jed and he was glad that he’d had the chance. He hadn’t really known much about cooking at all when they’d moved in together but he’d learnt a lot from Jed’s mom and now he and Jed shared doing things like that. He hadn’t wanted to wake Jed at first, instead choosing to let him sleep while Ben got breakfast ready for them, and now he’d seen the look on Jed’s face when he realised what was going on Ben was glad that he had done. “Maybe we should do this more often then,” Ben grinned. As Jed spoke again, Ben nodded. “In that case it sounds like it’s a good thing I woke you up. Now we have the rest of the day ahead of us.” Later they were going to be seeing Jed’s family and spending some of the day with them but they’d wanted some time alone first and truth be told Ben was looking forward to it because if there was one thing that he could never get enough of then it was spending time with Jed. “I thought so. You look cute when you sleep.” Most mornings they ended up waking up with one of them having wrapped their arms around the other and it had been that morning until he had gone to make breakfast. Ben wasn’t used to waking up next to someone until Jed came along, he had always left after hooking up with someone because he hadn’t wanted to put them in danger by being around them for too long. Jed was different, he made Ben feel like he was finally really living rather than just drifting through life and Ben knew that he would never be able to thank him enough for that. Now he got to wake up next to the guy he loved every morning and Ben knew that he wouldn’t have it any other way. “Nope, I guess you still have to do that the old fashioned way like I do,” Ben chuckled. Becoming a hybrid had changed a lot for Jed but he seemed to be taking it in his stride and Ben really was glad about that. It felt incredible to know that they didn’t have to worry about time anymore, they could just be together without having to worry about Jed growing older with each passing day. As Jed said he would win next time and make him something to eat in the morning, Ben couldn’t help but laugh. “You won’t hear any arguments from me, I love your cooking,” he grinned. As Jed said it was perfect, Ben’s smile turned gentle. “I’m glad you think so,” he said gently. Romantic gestures had never been something that he’d tried his hand at before but he wanted to do right by Jed so every so often he tried to give it a go. “Luckily your mom’s a good teacher, otherwise I’d still be burning everything,” he chuckled. “I doubt that, not when I have you and your sisters to contend with,” he added with a grin. He was definitely grateful to Jenna for taking the time to teach him though, it was a nice way of spending time with her. Starting to tuck into his breakfast, Ben’s smile returned as Jed said it was pretty good. “I learnt from the best,” he grinned. He hadn’t really given too much thought to what they would do for food when they’d decided to move in together but if he was honest he was glad that they didn’t have to rely on having takeout all the time. It was nice for a treat but it always meant more having something that one of them had made. “Keep that up and it’ll only last a few bites,” he added with a laugh as he realised that Jed was trying everything at once. “It is. I like it that we normally have breakfast together but this feels different,” he admitted as he lifted his glass to his lips and took a sip. “Have you thought about what we should do with the rest of our morning?” he asked, not sure whether Jed had given any thought to what he’d like to do before they headed over to his parents’ house. Jed nodded his head in agreement with Ben because the idea of them doing this more often definitely sounded nice to him. "I'd love that." He said with a soft smile resting on his lips. He couldn't agree more with Ben about it being a good thing that he'd woken him up because otherwise, he'd have slept through the morning and they wouldn't have been able to enjoy their time together before heading over to the Saltzman residence. At least like this, he could spend a little more time with Ben before they head over there. A time well-spent, if you ask Jed. "Exactly." Jed said with a grin tugging at the corner of his lips already. "Only when I sleep?" Jed asked in a teasing manner with the same grin still resting on his lips as he looked at Ben.
Jed released a soft hum at that before he nodded his head in agreement with him. "Looks like I have no other choice, then." Jed pretended to be disappointed about it but from the smile on his lips, he was anything but. "Yeah? In that case, I'll cook for you more often, then." Jed said with a grin resting on his lips. "I've been learning new recipes. Ever heard of Butter Cauliflower Bowls? I saw a picture of it last night and I think I dreamed about it all night." Jed said with a chuckle falling from his lips not long after. "Oh, look at you, being so humble. That's cute."
"Look, food like this needs to be enjoyed as a whole. I can't just have a bite here and a bite from there. Like this, I can taste everything." Jed commented after he was done chewing. "Same here, breakfast in bed does make the morning feel different." Jed agreed with a quick nod of his head following before he ate some more. Ben's question made him release a small hum of contemplation before he lowered his fork down. "I'm honestly open to anything, really. It all depends on whether we wanna spend the rest of our morning here, or go somewhere together."

“Same here,” Ben nodded as Jed said he would love to do this more often. He had wanted to do something special for Jed that morning and Ben was glad that the idea of breakfast in bed had gone down so well so he knew that he definitely wasn’t going to argue about doing that more often. This was all still so new to Ben, ever since Ashur died he had grown used to not even spending the night with a guy but Jed had changed everything for him and he loved it. Even the little experiences like this were ones that Ben cherished and he knew better than to take any of them for granted. He could never seem to get enough of spending time with Jed but that was something that he had grown used to at least and Jed often seemed happy to go along with it. As Jed asked if he only looked cute when he slept, Ben pretended to think about it for a moment before laughing. “You’re cute all the time, you know that,” he teased as he leaned forward and stole a kiss. “Nope, sorry,” Ben chuckled, shaking his head in amusement at the way Jed pretended to be disappointed even though the smile on his face indicated that he wasn’t at all. “In that case I’m looking forward to it,” he added, unable to stop himself from smiling back at Jed. They shared the cooking anyway but he knew that he definitely wouldn’t argue with being able to taste Jed’s cooking more often. “No I haven’t but if you decide you want to make them, I’d love to give them a try,” Ben assured him. He really wasn’t fussy when it came to food, after all after everything he had been through he hadn’t been able to afford to be, so he knew that he would be more than happy to go along with it if Jed wanted to. “It’s the truth, I can see how much she loves spending time with all of you,” he shrugged. “If you say so,” Ben chuckled as Jed said food like that needed to be enjoyed whole. It was enough to make him curious, though, so he tried a bit of everything in one go and his eyes widened in surprise at how good it tasted. “You know, you just might be onto something there,” he admitted. It would mean it wouldn’t last anywhere near as long but it would be worth it. “It does. We’ll make this a more regular thing,” he nodded. Ben knew that they still might not end up doing it too often but even if it was only every now and then he would be happy. “Hmm. Maybe a bit of both? We could always watch a movie here in front of the fire and then go for a walk before we head to your parents’ place,” he suggested although he knew that he would be happy doing just about anything as long as they were together. Jed grinned at Ben's words before he nodded his head. "I know. I just wanted to hear you say it." Jed teased with a chuckle falling from his lips not long after. He pretended to be disappointed when Ben apologized. "Damn. I want to revoke my Hybrid membership if that's the case. I really should've read the contract before becoming a hybrid." Jed joked, pretending to be serious but it really didn't take long at all for a grin to start tugging at the corner of his lips. "Oh, you definitely should. I'm an excellent cook." Jed teased with an overconfident smile resting on his lips, pretending as though he really was the greatest cook out there when his cooking was – okay at best.
"Oh perfect, now I know what I'm gonna make for us next time. It's going to be so tasty. It'll blow your mind away." Jed said with a grin resting on his lips. He didn't have a single doubt in his mind about that, at least. "Yeah, I really love spending time with her, too." That family really did mean a lot to him and Jed would be lost if it weren't for them. He wouldn't have felt so included and so loved if it weren't for them.
While his first family wasn't the greatest, his second one was by far the best and he considered them to be his only family. "She loves spending time with you, too. You're like a son to her." Jed said with a soft smile beginning to form on his lips as he looked at Ben, watching him with the same tenderness still clear in his eyes.
Jed watched Ben give trying everything out in the same bite a try and grinned at Ben's reaction. "How is it?" He asked before Ben talked and he laughed at his words. "See? I told you. It just hits different when you try everything all at once. You can really taste everything." Jed said with the same grin still visible on his lips after his laughter had faded away.
"I'd love nothing more." Jed said with a soft smile on his lips when Ben said that they will make breakfast in bed a more regular thing. It was definitely a good start to his day and now Jed felt content, he felt like he was ready to face anything that was thrown his way with open arms. Jed released a soft hum at Ben's suggestion watch something together before going on a walk. "You know what? That sounds really fun. Absolutely." Jed said with a quick nod of his head following. "Let's do that, then." Jed added in a soft voice.
Jed finished his plate with a satisfied hum leaving his lips. "Man, that was really good. Thanks, Ben." Jed said in a soft voice. "Leave the dishes to me, I've got those. I was thinking of maybe hitting up the shower? Wanna join me?"

“Of course you did, and you knew I would,” Ben chuckled. He wasn’t ashamed to admit that he was a sucker for doing what Jed wanted him to do, Jed had taken a chance on him by giving him a place to stay at the Salvatore School and he had literally laid his life down to protect him the day the dragon attacked. Ben had never found anyone who felt the way that Jed did about him and Ben knew that he wanted to do everything in his power to make Jed happy. He had given up on the idea of having a life like this a long time ago but Jed had showed him that it was possible and Ben knew that he didn’t want to do anything to jeopardise that. As Jed said he should have read the contract before becoming a hybrid, Ben couldn’t help but laugh. “I’m sure it was in the fine print somewhere. I guess you’ll have to settle for spending an eternity with me as the consolation prize,” he teased, unable to stop himself as he looked over at Jed. He knew that there were other reasons why Jed had become a hybrid as well but the fact that he had even factored into the equation meant the world to Ben. Hearing Jed say he was an excellent cook was enough to bring a smile to Ben’s face. “Maybe I should let you do all the cooking from now on then?” he grinned, knowing that he would never actually do that. They shared things and he knew that was as it should be. “I’m sure it will, I can’t wait,” Ben grinned. It was so good to see Jed so enthusiastic about something and Ben knew that even if it didn’t end up tasting very nice then he would act like it did anyway. It never really mattered to him too much what they had to eat so he knew that they would make it work. “I can tell. I love how close your family is,” Ben admitted. Truth be told he had never seen anything quite like it, while he was growing up it had been just him and his mom and after she died it had been him, Ashur and Ashur’s dad. He had never known what it was like to have a family like the one that Jed had but now to an extent he was getting to experience being a part of that too. As Jed said that he was like a son to Jenna, Ben’s expression softened. “I was quite young when my mom died so I don’t remember too much about her. It’s nice being able to experience that again now,” he said, reaching over and giving Jed’s hand a gentle squeeze. “I wouldn’t have any of this without you. I wouldn’t want any of it without you.” Jed had accepted him for who he was without any questions asked, he had accepted his past and he had forgiven him when he had found out that Ben had still been going out and letting the monsters kill him behind his back. Jed had given him so much and Ben really did love him for it. He had always been intrigued about why Jed often went for a little bit of everything when he ate but now Ben could definitely understand why. “You’re right about that, it’s amazing,” he admitted, setting his fork down so he could take a sip of his drink. “Same here,” Ben said, a smile touching his lips as Jed said that he would love nothing more than doing this more often. They normally ate together but this was different and Ben knew that he would definitely like to do this more often. Ben knew that watching something together and then going for a walk might not sound that exciting to most but to Ben it sounded perfect and his expression softened as Jed said it sounded really fun. “You’re sure? We can do something else if you prefer,” he offered, knowing that he really didn’t mind what they did as long as they were together. “I haven’t celebrated Christmas before so I’m not sure what people normally do.” The monsters that had been tracking him down hadn’t let up over the holidays so he had never seen the point in even trying to do something special for Christmas until now. Finishing his meal, Ben felt a smile touch his lips as Jed said it was really good. “You’re welcome, I’m glad you enjoyed it,” he said sincerely. “Are you sure? I don’t mind helping,” he offered quickly as Jed said to leave the dishes for him. He hadn’t made them breakfast with it in mind that Jed would clean up afterwards and truth be told he felt a little guilty about the thought of Jed doing that. As Jed asked if he wanted to join him in the shower, Ben felt a smile touch his lips. “When have you ever known me to say no to that?” he teased, setting his tray aside before getting to his feet and holding his hand out to Jed.
