━ your sweetness is more cruel than your hurt ━
Hope wasn't the type of person to process emotions with ease and right now, she was feeling a whole flurry of emotions. Her first meeting with the pack didn't go exactly as planned and from the looks on their faces, Hope could tell that they didn't want her as their Alpha and Hope understood their reluctance to accept her, it was a big and abrupt change, so of course it was a natural reaction but upon seeing their disapproval and their hesitance, Hope lost all the words she'd wanted to say and instead, her emotions got so out of control to the point where the lights began to flicker as surges of magic emitted from her, unstoppable and dangerous. Jed had been watching from the sidelines to make sure that their meeting didn't go south and upon realizing that it was, indeed, going south, he stepped in and advised Hope to take a moment to collect herself. Hope had already been aching to leave and upon being given the green light to do so, Hope turned around and rushed out, the lights still flickering wildly above her until she left and headed in the direction of the Old Mill.
Hope wasn't sure why she'd picked the Old Mill in particular to be her hiding spot while she worked on getting her emotions under control, but it wasn't like she had many places she could go to. Hope made her way to the second floor of the Old Mill where she sat on the window sill, her legs hanging outside the window as she brought her legs up and wrapped her arms tightly around them. Hope hated this feeling and even more so, she hated herself for taking on the role of the Alpha. She should've followed her gut feeling, the same one that had told her to say no to Jed. But how could she stand in the way of what Jed wanted? She couldn't tell him no and she knew that there weren't others who could take on the role of the leader. Hope knew it was far too late for regrets, if the red hue in her eyes was of any indicator. She'd just have to try harder to win the pack's trust, she'd have to be better for them. For now though, she gave herself time to calm down because the last thing she wanted to do was to scare them, so she took deep breaths and allowed herself some time to calm down before going back.

Raf had known that things would change when they started college but he had never thought that things would change quite as much as they had done already. Jed had become a hybrid and was engaged to Ben, they were close to finding a way to break the curses that had been placed on Gabriela, Adelina and Ben and Hope had become an Alpha officially. They were also all still trying to get ready for the next attack from Ben’s father since they were certain that he wasn’t done with them yet and Raf had been training as much as he could. He was doing much better than he had been a few months ago, he finally felt like he was getting his bloodlust under control and his other powers were proving easier to get a handle on as well. A few months ago he had run away because he hadn’t felt like he belonged at the Salvatore School any longer but his friends had convinced him to stay and he was glad that he had listened to them. He had been on his own for most of his life but now he didn’t have just Landon in his corner, he had Hope and the others as well and that meant the world to Raf. He hadn’t felt like he was a part of a real family since his adoptive parents had died but now he felt like he had found where he belonged and he knew now that he wasn’t going to give that up without a fight. Even though Hope hadn’t officially been an Alpha when he died with her blood in his system, Hope had considered her to be his Alpha ever since then and perhaps even before. She was the one who had helped him get to grips with being a werewolf after he triggered his curse and he had done the same for Hope in return when she had triggered her curse. He had known that Jed was the right person to lead the school’s pack but Raf had seen himself as a bit of an outsider after everything that he had been through and that was perhaps why he and Hope had gravitated towards each other. He was proud of her for granting Jed’s wish and taking his Alpha status from him when he became a hybrid but even though he didn’t know all of the details, it didn’t sound like her first talk with the pack had gone well. Raf knew that Josie was usually the best person to comfort Hope when she needed it but she didn’t know what it was like to be a werewolf so Raf decided to go and check on Hope himself. His go to place when he needed to think was always the Old Mill and he knew that it was the same for Hope so that was where he decided to try first and sure enough he found her sitting on the window ledge. “Hey,” he said gently as he approached, not wanting to startle her. “I heard you met with the pack today, are you okay?” he asked, moving so that he was sitting next to her. ━ your sweetness is more cruel than your hurt ━
Hope enjoyed the serene mood that surrounded her from every direction. Despite not always going to the Old Mill, it was still one of her favorite place to go when she felt like she needed a breather from everything else that was going on. Hope took in a deep breath before releasing it slowly, trying to calm down from the epic failure that was her first meeting with the pack. The way they had looked at her with so much uncertainty... She wasn't cut out for this, she didn't think of herself as an Alpha and now that the position was tied to her much like her own shadow, she felt as though she couldn't escape from it. She would just have to try and be better for their sakes because a pack without an Alpha was doomed to meet a terrible fate. She'd heard of countless packs crashing and burning without a pack and the last thing she wanted was for the Salvatore pack to meet the same fate. They were all scared wolves or were-creatures trying to make it in a world that was far too scary for them at times. Hope understood their fear. She felt it too, at times. She felt it in the pit of her stomach a lot more frequently and it was all because of Ben's father. The angel, once again, had the element of surprise. They had no idea of knowing for sure when he was going to attack next and it was that very same uncertainty that left a bitter taste in the pit of her stomach that stemmed from fear. The angel was powerful, Hope was willing to give him that and it was that power that left her wondering if any of them were going to be left standing after the face-off. The mere thought of losing any of her friends scared her to her very core.
Hope snapped out of her thoughts when she heard Rafael's voice. She looked at him over her shoulder, her lips stretching into a small smile. "Hey," she greeted back as she unwrapped her arms from around her legs and let them fall over the edge of the window ledge. Hope made some room for Rafael to join her. Hope's shoulders lifted and dropped in a quick shrug at his question, remaining silent for a moment as she chewed on her bottom lip before finally releasing her bottom lip from between her teeth. "I━" The reassurance that she was okay was on the tip of her tongue but Hope knew that it wasn't the truth and she also knew that she didn't need to lie to Rafael. Didn't need to pretend with him, either. She trusted him a lot and he meant so much to her, so she knew that lying to him wasn't an option. "I don't know, Raf." Hope admitted instead. She hated being seen like this, so weak and scared. She felt vulnerable in a way that didn't sit well with her.
"The way they were looking at me..." Hope trailed off, her fingers absentmindedly playing with the rings around the fingers of her left hand. "It was obvious they didn't want me as their Alpha. I don't━" Hope paused with a sigh falling from her lips not long after. "I don't know what to do."

So much was changing right now, Raf and his friends had graduated from high school together and they had all decided to stay on at the Salvatore College which definitely made life that much easier. Raf had thought about going to a normal college but he had quickly dismissed the idea because he hadn’t wanted to have to hide what he was from those around him. It was much better being surrounded by people who knew who and what he was and what he had been through as far as he was concerned so he was more than happy to keep it that way for as long as possible. He knew what it was like to be all alone in the world, after all it had been that way for as long as he could remember before Landon came along and he knew that he didn’t want to go back to the way things used to be. Now he had more friends around him than he’d ever had before and he finally felt settled for the first time since his parents had died so he knew that he didn’t want to give that up. Being thrown into the supernatural world had been difficult and trying to navigate it without really knowing what was going on with him or Landon had been a challenge but they had made it through it together and after they were brought to the Salvatore School everything had fallen into place. Raf hadn’t planned on dying and becoming a hybrid but then again he hadn’t planned on triggering the curse he hadn’t known he’d had either. Sometimes things happened that couldn’t be helped and Raf knew that they all just had to learn to adapt in order to keep moving forward. Sometimes that was easier said than done especially with the threat of Ben’s father returning hanging over their heads but before he had caught them off guard when only a few of the squad were together. Next time would be different, it had to be. Hope and Josie had lost their lives that day and Raf hated the fact that he hadn’t been there to help him. Next time he knew that he would make sure that he was there with them somehow and he knew that the outcome had to be different, for all their sakes. Right now he suspected that was the last thing on Hope’s mind, though, and Raf felt a half smile touch his lips as Hope greeted him. It wasn’t long before she made some room for him and Raf sat next to her before wrapping his arm around her shoulders. He could tell that Hope was about to lie and say she was fine but she caught herself and he was glad about that. “Here I was thinking you weren’t going to be honest with me,” he teased, hoping to lighten the mood slightly as he gave Hope’s shoulder a gentle squeeze. “I wouldn’t have believed you even if you had said you were fine, meeting them was a big step and I know how far out of your comfort zone it is,” he said gently. It never would have been easy for Hope but that didn’t stop him from hoping that the pack would be accepting of her. As she said the pack didn’t want her as their Alpha, Raf couldn’t deny that it made him feel angry because he knew how hard Hope had thought about all of the options before she had made her decision to become the Alpha. She hadn’t taken it lightly but then again they might not even know that so he knew that it was an awkward situation all around. “I was never one of them but I can talk to them if you want me to,” he offered, knowing that he would do just about anything to stop Hope from feeling the way she did right now. “As cliché as it sounds, I think you just need to give it some time. They don’t know you and you don’t know them so perhaps talk to them one on one and let them get to know you for you rather than as their new Alpha. It might make the transition easier,” he suggested. “Don’t forget to us you’re Hope but to them you’re a Mikaelson and you’re the Tribrid so to anyone who doesn’t know you, that can be pretty scary,” he added. He wasn’t saying it to be mean and he hoped Hope wouldn’t take it that way but her reputation really did precede her and since the pack didn’t know her personally then that was probably all they had to go off of. “I know you didn’t take the decision to do this lightly but they might not. It’s a big change for you but it’s a big change for them too and I think we’ve all been through enough changes over the course of our lives to be wary of any new ones.” Raf certainly was, he preferred things just the way they were and he knew that he wasn’t the only one. “You’ve got this Hope. You were a great Alpha long before you became one officially.”HOPE MIKAELSON
