It was a little strange to think that this time tomorrow Jed would be a hybrid. Ben had never expected him to make that choice, most of Jed’s family were mortal and becoming a hybrid would mean that he would have to lose them one day but he knew that Jed’s mind was made up. He wanted this and even though it was selfish, Ben knew that he wanted it too. He had always thought that he would have to figure out how to say goodbye to Jed one day but he honestly had planned on finding a way to follow Jed into the afterlife. Ben had known that one way or another their story would span more than a mortal lifetime but now Jed was making sure of that. Ben had known that it was important to make sure that it was Jed’s decision rather than something that he had decided to do because he thought that it was the only way that they could be together and after they’d talked it through he had seen just how much Jed had thought about it. He knew the risks and the difficulties that he might end up facing but he still wanted to go ahead with it so there was no way that Ben would ever do anything other than support him. They had managed to gain the support of Jed’s family as well and Hope had agreed to let Jed use her blood to make it happen. Slowly but surely the pieces were falling into place and Ben knew that it wouldn’t be too much longer before all the worrying was over. Jed had found a way to show his commitment to their relationship and Ben knew that he wanted to do the same. He and Jed had talked about getting married and he knew that it was what they both wanted but he was still a nervous about asking because wanting it one day and wanting it right now were too very different things. He wasn’t sure if Jed would feel that he wasn’t ready to take that step but Ben knew that he would regret it if he didn’t ask and show Jed that he was committed to their relationship as well. He had bought the ring before Jenna and Ric had given their blessing and he had soon realised that the night before Jed became a hybrid would be the perfect time to ask. Ben had meant it when he had said he couldn’t promise that there wouldn’t be any tears when Jed died even though it was only going to be temporary. Tonight was different though, tonight he wanted to do something special to mark Jed’s last night as a werewolf and Ben knew that it would be even more special if Jed ended up giving him the answer that he wanted. Right now there was only one thing on Ben’s mind, though, and that was making sure that Jed enjoyed his night so he kept his hands over Jed’s eyes as they made their way down to the Old Mill. “Keep your eyes shut,” Ben reminded him, a smile forming on his face as they moved forward like that. He wouldn’t be surprised if Jed already knew where they were going but he wanted the sight to be a surprise. There were more lights than ever illuminating the building both inside and out and Ben had enlisted Josie’s help with warming charms to make sure that they wouldn’t end up getting cold. The fire was blazing and Ben had already brought over food from their favourite restaurant earlier that day which was now resting on the table he had set up, complete with candles that further lit up the area. Josie had ensured that it would stay warm for them and there was also a cooler full of beers, wine and even a bottle of champagne in case Jed did say yes. Ben had wanted to make it a night that Jed would remember and as he quickly checked that everything was just as it should be, he moved his hands away from Jed’s eyes once he was happy that it was. “You can open them now,” he said, hoping that Jed would like it. The Old Mill was a special place for them – it was where they had shared a drink the day Ben had arrived at the school and it was where they had confessed their feelings for each other. They had shared their first kiss and started their relationship out there and it only felt right that they should be there again now that a new chapter of their lives was about to begin. JED SALTZMAN

– I freed myself from words never said –
"I will, I will." Jed promised with a small smile resting on his lips. It was pretty obvious that Ben had planned a surprise for him and boy was Jed curious to see what it was. He kept walking, letting Ben take the lead and guide him where he needed to go before he stopped and that was when he realized that they had arrived already. He felt a wave of warmth wash over him which helped battle the coldness he had experienced mere moments ago. When Ben lowered his hands and Jed was given the green light to open his eyes, he took a deep breath before releasing it softly then opened his eyes. First, he had to blink a few times to allow his eyes to re-adjust but then he was finally able to see everything. The lights captured his attention first, there were more lights than before and it was absolutely beautiful. "Wow..." Jed breathed out, his amazement visible on his face. The Old Mill had always held a special place in his heart because of the serene mood that it carried so effortlessly, especially with the bonfire going. His attention drifted to the bonfire, his eyes squinting for a moment as he watched the flames crackle, looking beautiful as always. He approached the table upon spotting it, his lips stretching into a smile upon realizing that Ben had ordered from their favorite restaurant and had decorated the table with candles, setting an even more romantic mood which only made his smile brighten. His eyes relaxed on the cooler a moment later and it was already pretty clear what Ben had placed inside of it. It sent him back to the very first night he had taken Ben out here to enjoy a drink with him. It made him feel like no time had passed at all. He couldn't help but feel the sting of tears in his eyes before he blinked them away. No one had ever done something like this for him and it only made Ben's gesture even more endearing and memorable.
He turned to look at Ben not long after, his smile still present on his lips. "This is absolutely beautiful, Ben. I love it." Jed figured he'd been quiet for long enough now and he didn't want Ben to think that he was silent because he didn't like what Ben had done. On the contrary, he was silent because he liked it a little too much. "You didn't have to do all of that. But I'm grateful that you did." Jed said with a gentle smile on his lips. He figured that it was a little special occasion for them to celebrate Jed's last night as a werewolf.
It was perfect.
Jed approached Ben with the same smile still locked on his lips. "Thank you." He stood in front of Ben, his hands lifting to gently rest on Ben's cheeks before he leaned forward to connect their lips in a kiss to showcase how much he appreciated everything Ben had done for him to ensure that his last night as a werewolf was memorable. He had a feeling that even if he spent hundreds of years, he won't be forgetting tonight. The way Ben had taken the time to put everything together with such care and love... It made Jed love him even more. Jed leaned back from the kiss with a gentle smile on his lips. "What a very memorable last night as a werewolf." Jed said with a soft chuckle falling from his lips as he turned his attention back to the beautiful decoration. "Absolutely breath-taking."

“Sure you will,” Ben chuckled as Jed promised that he would keep his eyes shut. Ben knew that he could trust Jed when it came to most things but he also knew how easily excitable Jed was so he knew that he didn’t want to take any chances with him peeking until Ben was sure that everything was perfect. He wanted to make sure that Jed had a memorable last night as a werewolf and the ring he had bought felt like it was burning a hole in his pocket right now. He couldn’t wait to ask Jed to marry him but he knew that it would be best to hold off on doing that just yet. First they had an amazing meal to eat and if Ben was honest he wanted to enjoy some time alone with Jed. They lived together so they got to spend time together all the time but this was different. This was something that he wanted to do for Jed and he hoped that Jed would like it. This was all still so new to him, he hadn’t been in a relationship for thousands of years and he’d never had to worry about putting together something like this before but as far as he was concerned Jed deserved this and so much more. He was literally changing his life so that they could have eternity together and that meant the world to Ben considering that he had never thought that he would find anyone who would want to spend more than one night with him, let alone forever. For a moment Ben wondered if he had perhaps gone a little overboard with everything as Jed looked around them but eventually Jed turned to look at him and his words were enough to make Ben’s heart skip a beat. It had taken him a long time to get everything just right and it had looked good to him but he had worried that Jed might not like it. It was Jed that had first called the Old Mill their spot but Ben knew that he was right. This was where they had already shared so many happy memories together and Ben had thought that it would be the perfect place to do this. “You do?” he asked, a smile touching his lips as he looked over at Jed. Truth be told he hadn’t really known what he was doing but he had known that he’d wanted to make it special for Jed and he hoped that he had managed to do just that. “I know I didn’t but I wanted to. I know you have other reasons for wanting to become a hybrid as well but by doing this you’re making sure that we have forever and I wanted to do something special to mark the occasion,” Ben admitted. He had honestly thought that he would want to watch as Jed grew older and eventually died one day but now he wasn’t going to have to worry about that and words couldn’t even begin to describe how relieved Ben was. “You’re welcome,” Ben said, a half smile forming on his lips as Jed’s hands rested against his cheeks and Jed leaned forward. Ben knew what was coming and he smiled happily into the kiss as he kissed Jed back. Ben might not have done anything like this before but he knew that it would be worth taking the time to do something like this again just to see the look on Jed’s face. “I was hoping you would think so,” Ben admitted as he moved behind Jed and wrapped his arms around him before letting his chin rest against his shoulder as they looked at the decorations. “Are you hungry or can I get you a beer?” he asked as he pressed a light kiss to Jed’s shoulder. – I freed myself from words never said –
"Hey now, what is that supposed to mean? I'll have you know I'm very good at keeping my eyes closed." Jed had spoiled a few surprises for himself every now and then but he just can't help it, okay? He gets a bit excited and sometimes, the excitement just gets too much for him to bear and his eyes just flutter open as if they possessed a mind of their own. It was absolutely not his fault. Though when he opened his eyes, he realized that he would have been really disappointed if he'd spoiled the surprise for himself, so he was grateful that he hadn't spoiled the surprise. Jed was absolutely in love with what Ben had done with the Old Mill. It looked mesmerizing, especially with all the lights and the fireplace. It looked like a perfect romantic getaway. "I do. No doubt." Jed was all too happy to let Ben know that he was absolutely serious when he said that he loved what Ben had done with the Old Mill. He could barely keep his eyes away, though he did look over at Ben as he registered his words, his lips stretching into a gentle smile. "Oh, trust me, you succeeded at making something special to make the occasion. I'm pretty sure I won't be forgetting about this for many, many years to come." Jed truthfully said with a gentle smile tugging at his lips.
Jed was all too happy to press another kiss against Ben's lips, humming softly against his lips before drawing back so he could take in everything, a happy smile resting on his lips and when Ben wrapped his arms around him from behind, Jed was more than happy to placed his hands on Ben's arms, pressing back into his embrace with the same happy smile still on his lips. "I'm glad I didn't disappoint then." Jed teased in a light-hearted voice. "But honestly, how could I think anything else?" Jed said as his teasing ceased, leaving his smile still visible on his lips. "It's a lovely surprise. I'm pretty sure I almost cried, too. But I didn't want to ruin the moment with my crying face." Jed said with a soft chuckle falling from his lips not long after as he rubbed Ben's arms, feeling pretty content in his embrace as he felt Ben's chin rest on his shoulder. "I saw the food from our favorite restaurant, so I'm definitely hungry now." Jed could spot all of Ben's thoughtfulness and his attention to detail in everything that Ben had done to the place. It made him love the man even more. "Then we can have a beer or two." Jed added, all too happy to do their usual 'ritual' of having a beer by the bonfire, enjoying nothing other than each other's company.

“No, you’re really not,” Ben chuckled as Jed said he was very good at keeping his eyes closed. He knew just how excitable Jed could get at times but the truth was that it was one of the things that Ben loved about him. It had been difficult enough keeping what he’d planned from Jed but now that they were here he just hoped that Jed would like it. Ben wasn’t used to doing something like this at all, he and Jed had been on dates before but this was Ben’s first time planning something that he hoped would be really special and it was enough to make him nervous to say the least. As it turned out he needn’t have worried after all and the expression on Jed’s face right now was one that Ben definitely wanted to see again. “I’m so glad,” Ben admitted, letting out a sigh of relief as Jed said that he loved it. It had taken him time to get everything to a point where he was happy with it but he didn’t regret it one bit. He really did want Jed’s last night as a werewolf to be memorable and even if Jed said he wasn’t ready to accept his proposal now, Ben knew that he would simply wait until he was. Either way he knew that he wasn’t going to let anything stop him from being with Jed and right now Ben just wanted to make this special. “In that case my mission is complete,” Ben said, a smile forming on his face as his eyes met Jed’s. “I know not all of your memories as a werewolf are good ones so I wanted to make sure that we did something to mark the end of this chapter and the start of the next,” he added as his expression softened. He knew that this wouldn’t erase all of the hurt that Jed had experienced at his father’s hands but Ben hoped that it would at least give him something good to focus on. It felt so natural to wrap his arms around Jed and hold him like this and Ben felt a smile touch his lips as Jed placed his hands on his arms and pressed back against him. Ben really had never felt like this about anyone else before and he knew how special that was. He might not like the idea of Jed dying but it would be worth it in the end and that was what he kept reminding himself. “You didn’t,” Ben grinned as Jed said he was glad he didn’t disappoint. “We haven’t done anything like this before so I wasn’t sure if you might think it was a bit much,” he admitted, glad that Jed didn’t seem to feel that way at all. As Jed said he almost cried before saying that he didn’t want to ruin the moment, Ben couldn’t help but laugh. “You wouldn’t have but I appreciate the effort,” he grinned before pressing a light kiss to Jed’s neck. As Jed said he had seen the food from their favourite restaurant and he was hungry, Ben nodded and released Jed from his embrace before taking Jed’s hand in his and leading him over to the table. “I figured it you were going to have one final meal like this as a werewolf it might as well be one you’ll enjoy,” he admitted as he pulled Jed’s chair out for him so he could sit down before taking his seat opposite Jed and pouring their drinks. “Sounds good to me, let’s dig in,” he said, hoping that the meal would help ease his nerves a little at least. – I freed myself from words never said –
Jed rolled his eyes with a fond smile on his lips. "You can't see it right now, but I just rolled my eyes at you. Just thought I'd let you know." His tone was light-hearted as he spoke. When he opened his eyes, he found himself looking at the thoughtful decorations that Ben had placed up for him. It was absolutely beautiful and he immediately let Ben know that. He didn't carry a single doubt in his mind that he would wind up remembering this for many years to come. He'd never had anyone do something like this for him, so for Ben to be the first person to do that for him made it even more special to him. He almost cried but he'd managed to hold back his tears and that spoke in volumes how much he adored everything that Ben had done for him today. Jed's lips stretched into a gentle smile, his expression softening when Ben said that he wanted them to do something mark the end of the chapter. He was right, not all his memories as a werewolf were good ones, but he was beyond happy to have met Ben and the rest of his family. There were bad memories, but there were good ones, too. Ones that he cherished very deeply. "It's very thoughtful of you." Jed said with a gentle smile resting on his lips.
"No, I think it's perfect." Jed assured with a gentle voice. He didn't think it was much. Maybe if Ben had taken him on an impromptu trip to Paris or something to have a picnic there to celebrate his last day as a werewolf he would have thought it was a bit much, but what Ben had done to the Old Mill was just wonderful and not at all too much for him. He made sure to take everything in to be able to save it all to memory.
Jed chuckled at Ben's words before he shook his head. Honestly, he would have one hundred percent ruined the mood by crying because it would have been entirely too difficult for him to stop. Everything that Ben had done showcased his love and Jed appreciated every gesture. He loved everything that Ben had done to the Old Mill, it just made it even more so special to him. "What a wonderful last meal." Jed sat down on the chair that Ben pulled out for him, delivering a quick 'thank you' with a gentle smile resting on his lips. He settled down and watched as Ben took care of the drinks for them. Jed nodded his head at Ben's words when he suggested that they dig in. Jed grabbed his fork and started digging in, humming in delight every couple of bites because the food tasted absolutely heavenly and boy was he glad that they were ending the night with delicious food.
"Just as good as I remember it." Jed spoke after finishing his bite before he started digging in once more. It didn't take long for Jed to finish up his food and once he was done, he placed his fork and reached for his drink to take a quick sip. "Man, this is perfect." Jed said as he kept his drink in his hand, a pleased smile on his lips. He was full and satisfied and from the smile on his lips, he was happy, too. "I enjoyed the food a lot." He always did whenever they got food from that particular restaurant. No wonder it was on his top favorite restaurants list. "Thank you, Ben. It's a perfect last meal as a werewolf."

Ben couldn’t help but laugh as Jed said that he had just rolled his eyes at him. “Why am I not surprised?” he chuckled. Even now they still liked teasing each other and that was something that Ben was pretty sure was never going to change. He knew that they had something special and it was something that he knew that he would always cherish. He had waited such a long time to find Jed and now that he had done, Ben knew that he wasn’t going to let him go. The following day Jed would become a hybrid and then their future together could really begin but Ben knew that it was a huge decision for Jed to make and he had wanted to do something special to mark the occasion. He’d had a little help from Josie and Jed’s parents knew that he was planning on asking Jed to marry him but even he didn’t know exactly when he was going to ask the question just yet so that at least would be a surprise for both of them. Ben knew that he wanted this to be a night that Jed would always remember for all the right reasons, tomorrow everything would change so he knew that he wanted to make sure that Jed enjoyed his last night as a werewolf. “You’re worth this and so much more,” Ben assured him gently. He knew that this really was the least he could do when Jed was changing his whole life and it meant the world to him that Jed liked it. As Jed said that it was perfect, Ben felt a smile touch his lips. “I know we come out here quite a lot but this is our spot so I thought it was the perfect place for this,” he admitted. He knew that he could have done something much more extravagant but that wasn’t who he was and it wasn’t who Jed was either. They both liked simple and lighting up the Old Mill and getting food from their favourite restaurant had seemed like the perfect way to mark Jed’s last night as a werewolf. An amused look formed on Ben’s face as Jed shook his head, he didn’t think that Jed would have ruined things by crying and knowing what Jed was like there was still every chance that he might end up crying later on but they would cross that bridge when they came to it. “I’m glad you think so,” he grinned as Jed said that it was a wonderful last meal. “I thought we might as well stick with tradition and keep our favourite place going,” he chuckled. They really did tend to eat from there a lot but Ben knew that he would never get tired of it. The food was always amazing and it had seemed like the right thing to do. He wanted to make sure that Jed had the best of everything tonight and so far it seemed to be going well. Pushing Jed’s chair in once he’d sat down, Ben sorted out their drinks before sitting down and digging into his meal. It really did taste amazing and he nodded as Jed said that it was just as good as he remembered it. “They never disappoint,” Ben agreed. That was why they kept going back there after all. Taking a sip of his drink, Ben set it back down on the table and continued eating. Once he was done he looked over at Jed and felt a smile touch his lips. “It is, I’m so glad you like it,” he admitted, reaching over the table with his free hand and giving Jed’s hand a gentle squeeze. “You’re welcome,” he said, his smile returning as his eyes met Jed’s. “There’s dessert too although I don’t know about you but I’m full for now,” he added, knowing that he would much rather wait for a bit before eating anything else. “Beer by the bonfire?”JED SALTZMAN

– I freed myself from words never said –
Jed was pretty surprised to see all the changes that Ben had done with the Old Mill. It was decorated in a way that made his heart skip a beat. He could feel his eyes sting with unshed tears but he tried his best to reel back his tears because he was scared that if he actually gave in and let them slip, he won't be able to stop, so he took in a deep breath and just enjoyed the way Ben had decorated the Old Mill. He felt a gentle smile form on his lips when Ben told him that he was worth this and so much more. Jed didn't always think of himself as someone who was worth nice things due to his past actions, but Ben seemed determined to prove him wrong. He was determined to show Jed that he was indeed worth so much more than this. It made his heart skip a beat in a way that made him realize that he was just deeply in love with Ben and deeply appreciative of everything that he'd done for him. "We do have a lot of memories here, so this is perfect." Jed said with a quick nod of his head following, his smile resting on his lips, tender and appreciative.
Jed was more than happy to enjoy a meal from their favorite spot in town and he was more than happy to nod his head in agreement with Ben when he said that they might as well stick with the tradition and keep hitting up their favorite spot. "I love it." Jed said with a grin resting on his lips. He was more than happy to dig in and fully enjoy the food. With each bite, he felt satisfaction wash over him. Ben was absolutely right. They never disappoint. He was more than happy to enjoy the meal until it was all done and only then did he lean back with a satisfied sigh falling from his lips. His attention drifted to his boyfriend, his smile still present on his lips. "Oh, man, as tempting as that sounds, I'm stuffed right now. Maybe later, though." Jed said, his hand resting on his stomach to deliver the point that he was feeling full right now.
His eyes gleamed with excitement at Ben's offer to enjoy beer by the bonfire. "Took the words right outta my mouth." Jed said with a bright grin resting on his lips. He got up from where he was, his drink already in hand before he held out his hand for Ben so they could get closer to bonfire. "This is like, so peaceful. I really like this." It was quiet save for the sound of the roaring flames coming from the bonfire. He liked it so much. "Sometimes I think back to the first time we came out here. So much has changed since then, huh?" Jed turned to look at Ben with a gentle smile resting on his lips. "I never thought you'd end up meaning so much to me like you mean to me now." Jed admitted, one hand holding Ben's while the other held his drink. "I'm really glad to have you in my life." Jed added a moment later. "To tell you the truth, love was the last thing on my mind until you came along. You opened my eyes and made me realize what I'd been missing all along. It was you." Jed's voice was soft as he spoke, his eyes leaving the bonfire to look over at Ben, his smile resting tenderly on his lips. "I love you."

It wasn't that long ago that Jed had revealed that he wanted to become a hybrid but ever since then Ben had been trying to think of a way to make Jed's last night as a werewolf special. He knew that what Jed was doing was a massive deal, he was changing his life to make sure that they had forever and even though Ben knew that there were other reasons why Jed wanted to become a hybrid, just the fact that he and their relationship factored into that decision meant the world to him. He knew that the evening might end up taking a different turn if Jed said he wasn't ready to get engaged yet and if that happened then Ben knew that he would respect Jed's decision and be patient but there was a part of him that hoped that Jed would end up giving him the answer he wanted. Right now wasn't the time to be thinking about that, though, because Ben knew that now wasn't the right time to ask just yet but he hoped that soon enough it would be. No matter what answer came his way Ben knew that he wanted to make this special for Jed and the Old Mill was the perfect place for that. It really had become their spot and he knew that he wouldn't have it any other way. "We do. Hopefully we'll be able to make a lot more memories out here as well," Ben nodded, the smile on Jed's lips enough to make his breath catch in his throat. He wasn't just talking about tonight because something told him that they would be spending a lot more time out there. Ben had wanted the evening to be full of some of Jed's favourite things, hence the location, food and later beers by the bonfire. It was simple but it was perfect and Ben knew that it was just what they needed. He wasn't looking forward to watching Jed die tomorrow but he knew that he wasn't going to let Jed go through it alone and he hoped that a night like this might help ease Jed's mind a little if he was feeling nervous at all, or at the very least distract him for a while. "I hoped you would," Ben admitted, a smile forming on his face as he looked over at Jed. The food really was delicious and every time they ate from there Ben was reminded of just why they loved the place so much and now was no exception. "Maybe later, I couldn't eat another bite right now," Ben agreed. "We can always take it home with us if we don't want it tonight though, it'll keep," he added, not wanting Jed to feel like he had to eat it now if he didn't want to. As Ben suggested they have a beer by the bonfire next he could see the excitement in Jed's eyes and that alone was enough to bring a smile to Ben's face. "I know you too well," he chuckled as Jed said he had taken the words right out of his mouth. Grabbing a drink, Ben got to his feet and took Jed's outstretched hand in his before they headed over to the bonfire together. The chairs that had been out there that first day were positioned next to each other and Ben kept Jed's hand in his as he took a sip of his drink and his gaze came to rest on the bonfire. Ben really did love being out there with Jed and he knew that that was never going to change. "It is. I'll never get tired of spending time out here with you," Ben admitted gently. His eyes were fixed on the fire as Jed started speaking and he nodded as Jed said that so much had changed since they were first out there. "You're right about that," he agreed as he turned to meet Jed's gaze. "Tomorrow even more will change but the way I feel about you never will. Are you sure you still want to do this tomorrow?" he asked, knowing it was important that Jed knew that he could change his mind at any time if he wanted to. Taking a sip of his drink, Ben's expression softened as Jed said he'd never thought that he would end up meaning so much to him. "I didn't think you would end up meaning this much to me either, I can't even imagine my life without you in it now," he admitted gently. He hadn't really been living before Jed came along, he had only been existing and Ben knew that he didn't want to go back to that. As Jed spoke again, Ben's eyes met his once more and he felt a smile touch his lips. "And I love you," he said, knowing that he would never get tired of saying those words to Jed. In that moment Ben knew that it was this was the moment he had been waiting for and he set his drink down on the ground next to him, his other hand still holding Jed's as he lightly ran his thumb over Jed's knuckles. "You know, in Greek mythology they say that people were originally created with four arms, four legs and a head with two faces but they were split into two separate parts and condemned to spend their lives in search of their other halves. I'd given up on finding my other half but I found you at last," he said gently, his eyes full of nothing but love for Jed knowing that there really wasn’t a doubt in his mind that Jed was his soulmate. "You've decided to become a hybrid so we can be together without asking me for anything in return. You've showed how committed you are to our relationship and I want to do the same," he said, his eyes fixed on Jed as he spoke. "You changed everything the day you found me and tomorrow the next chapter of our life together will begin. This life we're building together is the kind I've never thought that I deserved but you've shown me that I do. I love you with every fibre of my being and I want to start this next chapter with you in the right way," he said, taking a deep breath before getting down on one knee and pulling out the engagement ring he'd bought with his free hand, his other hand still holding Jed's. "I know we haven't been together for very long but I've never been as certain about anything as I am about us and I promise to love you forever. Jedidiah Saltzman, will you do me the honour of marrying me?"JED SALTZMAN

– I freed myself from words never said –
"I have no doubt in my mind about that." Jed said with a gentle smile resting on his lips. They will have a long, long time ahead of them to do just that and even if they move to erase any suspicion of them not ageing, then they will find another place to make even more memories. Either way, as long as he had Ben by his side, then he was happy. Deeply so. The Old Mill had become their spot over time and it held a precious place in his heart, so for them to spend his last night as a werewolf here really did mean a lot to him. He felt at ease here and didn't exactly look like he was worried about anything in particular, he was just truly happy to be here with Ben. He appreciated everything that Ben had done for him to make his last night as a werewolf even more memorable.
There was a smile still present on his lips as he listened to Ben before he nodded his head a few times. "Yeah, that sounds like a good plan, actually." Jed replied a moment later. Jed wasn't entirely sure he'd be able to find space for dessert tonight, so he might as well enjoy it tomorrow either before turning into a hybrid as an early celebration, or enjoy it after becoming a hybrid as an actual celebration. Either way, he was going to deeply enjoy that dessert when its time to consume it.
Jed's lips stretched into a grin when Ben told him that he knew him too well. "That, you do." He was more than happy to get closer to the bonfire with Ben, enjoying his drink with his boyfriend. Being close to the bonfire gave him some much needed warmth and he fell in love even more with the place. Though his attention drifted back to Ben as he registered his words. "Same here." Jed replied with a gentle smile on his lips. Even if they spend years out here, he will never grow tired of spending time with Ben here. It was their spot, after all. How could he ever grow tired of spending time with him out here? He released a soft hum at Ben's next question before nodding his head. "I am. If anything, I'm pretty excited." Jed assured him with a half-smile resting on his lips. "Don't worry, I'm not having any second thoughts." He added a moment later, his half-smile still present on his lips. Jed's expression softened at Ben's words, feeling his heart skip a beat. It meant a lot to him to hear Ben say that. Jed will honestly never grow tired of hearing Ben tell him that he loved him. Each time he said it, it felt like he was hearing it for the first time and it made him smile even more.
Jed watched Ben with a curious look as he placed his drink down. Jed slowly lowered his drink from his lips as Ben captured his attention with his words. His eyes widened slightly as he listened to him speak of Greek mythology. His lips formed a small 'o' as he continued listening to his boyfriend but then the sentence took a turn that made his expression soften and his smile return. Ben's words made his heart flutter in the most pleasant way possible. He wanted to tell Ben that he felt exactly the same way and that he was honored to be his other half, but he didn't want to interrupt Ben, so he simply believed that Ben would know he felt the exact same way, too.
He was quiet as he listened to Ben, his expression still soft as he listened intently to his boyfriend who mentioned that he wanted to show him how committed he was to their relationship too. Ben was already immortal, so it wouldn't have anything to do with that and he can't help but grow even more curious as he listened to Ben. He wanted to tell him that he'd happily make that decision over and over again because he simply did not want to ever let go of Ben. Not when he'd finally found him again. Jed continued listening to his boyfriend, his smile still present on his lips. He knew that Ben deserved so much more than just that. He'd suffered for so long. He deserved to have a break, to be shown what it's like to be loved wholeheartedly. He didn't want Ben to ever go through that pain again, he wanted to show him that he deserved to be happy. His lips parted to say something, to finally get those words out but then all words died on his lips the second Ben went down on one knee. His eyes widened the second he realized what Ben was holding in his hand.
It was an engagement ring.
Ben was proposing to him. His eyes relaxed on the ring that Ben was holding up, undoubtedly waiting for his answer to his big question. But Jed looked like he was frozen for time. Jed's lips parted and closed like a gaping fish, all words escaping him as he looked at the ring then at Ben. "Oh – Oh my god." Jed finally spoke up, his hand moving to cover his mouth as his eyes turned blurry when it all actually clicked for him. Ben was proposing to him. He was down on one knee, waiting for an answer from him to a question that undoubtedly must've taken a lot of courage out him. No wonder he'd seen him look nervous a few times tonight... It all made so much sense now. His words from earlier about wanting to start this chapter of their lives the right way and how he'd wanted to show him how committed he was to their relationship... It made perfect sense now. Ben wanted to marry him. Jed could feel tears beginning to form in his eyes as he slowly lowered his hand from his mouth. "Shit. Sorry. This is the part where I give you my answer, right? Um." Jed wiped away his tears when he could no longer hold them back. They'd been dying to come out since the second he'd seen what Ben had done with the Old Mill, after all.
"Y– Yes! Holy shit, yes. Of course, I'll marry you." Jed finally answered and reached out to Ben, leaning down to kiss him before he encouraged Ben to get up. "Oh my god. I didn't see any of this coming. If tonight wasn't memorable enough before, it sure is now." Jed said with a chuckle falling from his lips as he wiped away his new tears. "R–Right, uh, the ring. Um. Here. Is this the right hand?" Jed held out his left hand, unsure whether he was holding out the correct one. He never thought he'd get proposed to, so he never paid much attention to that stuff, no matter how cute it was. Upon holding out his hand, he realized that he was shaking a little, but it was mostly just the adrenaline from his shock. The question had caught him completely off guard, in a good way, of course.

“In that case I can’t wait,” Ben admitted, a smile touching his lips as he looked over at Jed. They had already made so many memories together during the time that Ben had been in town and while it was true that not all of them were good the majority of them were and he knew that that was just as it should be. He had never thought that he would find someone who would ever make him feel like this but Jed had proved to be a first for him in many ways, just like he had been for Jed. In all his years he had never found anyone that he felt this way about and he knew that he would never find anyone like that again. He felt truly blessed for the first time in his life to have found Jed and even though he knew that they would have to move on sooner or later when people started to notice that they weren’t getting any older he didn’t doubt that they would find more special places like this to call their own along the way. Immortality was a blessing in some ways but it was a curse in others as it meant having to move around but Jed knew all of this and he had done when he’d made his decision to become a hybrid so Ben knew that he had thought it all through before deciding to go through with it. “I thought you might say that, there’s no point forcing it and not enjoying it,” Ben said as he reached over and gave Jed’s hand a gentle squeeze. He knew that getting dessert as well was a little ambitious since the meal was always filling enough in itself but he had wanted to make sure that it was there in case Jed did want something afterwards. It could easily wait until tomorrow, though, and truth be told Ben wasn’t sure that he had any room for anything else to eat either so he was more than happy to wait. “I don’t think that’s a bad thing,” Ben chuckled as Jed agreed that he knew him too well. Jed knew him just as well and Ben knew that that was as it should be. He hadn’t had anyone in his life that he felt this much at ease around in a long time and even now there were still times when he was surprised that Jed wanted to be with him even after knowing everything that he had done but Ben knew better than to take it for granted. Jed was such a good person and Ben knew that he really had found his home with him. To Ben Mystic Falls would always be special but home wasn’t a place to him, it was Jed and he knew that he would be happy wherever they ended up as long as they were together. Ben still knew that he wanted to make the most of being able to spend moments like this with Jed, though, and he felt a smile touch his lips at Jed’s words. Even though Jed had said a few times about this being his last night as a werewolf Ben still wanted to make sure that he wasn’t having any doubts and he felt relief flood through him when Jed confirmed that he was excited and that he wasn’t having any second thoughts. “I’m so glad,” he admitted gently. He knew that he would have understood if Jed had changed his mind and he would have respected his decision but truth be told Ben wanted the future with Jed that Jed was offering more than he could ever put into words so he was relieved that Jed hadn’t changed his mind. Ben hadn’t known how he was going to ask Jed to marry him. He hadn’t rehearsed anything but the moment he started speaking the words came tumbling out. He could see the confused look on Jed’s face when he said that he wanted to show how committed he was to their relationship as well but Ben knew that all would become clear soon enough. He had never thought that he would be the kind of guy to do this, to get down on one knee, but he knew that he wanted to marry Jed. They had talked about it when Jed had revealed that he wanted to become a hybrid so Ben knew that it was what Jed wanted as well but what he didn’t know was whether Jed was ready right now and that was enough to make him nervous. Ben already knew what he wanted their future to look like and that was something that he had never imagined with anyone else. Jed was it for him and under normal circumstances Ben might have smiled when Jed’s eyes went wide at the sight of the ring but right now he was far too nervous. A few times Jed seemed to try to speak but couldn’t find the words and when he did finally say something, Ben could tell just how surprised he was. He knew that Jed might think that it was too soon but Ben hoped that he wouldn’t. Seeing the tears in Jed’s eyes, Ben longed to wipe them away but he couldn’t from where he was and he felt frozen in place while he waited for Jed’s answer. “That would be preferable, I’m starting to get nervous down here,” Ben admitted. The longer he waited for Jed’s answer the more he was starting to worry that Jed was going to say no. He knew that the question had come as a shock to Jed but Ben really hoped that it was a good surprise and as Jed finally said yes, Ben let out the breath that he hadn’t even realised that he was holding. “Yes? You’re sure it’s not too soon for you?” he asked, his words cut off by the feeling of Jed’s lips against his and he kissed Jed back as he got to his feet. More than anything Ben wanted Jed to feel comfortable so he knew that he didn’t want Jed to do anything that he wasn’t ready for but just the fact that Jed had said yes was enough to have Ben’s heart hammering in his chest. “I told you I wanted to do something special to mark your last night as a werewolf. I know it might seem old fashioned but your parents gave their blessing. They have no idea that I wanted to ask you tonight but I knew the decision had to be yours,” Ben said, bringing his hand up and letting it rest against Jed’s cheek as he leaned forward and kissed him again. Truth be told Ben had almost forgotten about the ring as well and he let out a laugh as Jed remembered and held out his hand. “Yes, that’s the right one,” he said, a smile on his lips as he reached out and took Jed’s hand gently in his own before slipping the ring onto his finger. “I love you so much,” he breathed as he lifted his gaze to meet Jed’s, unbelievably happy that Jed had said yes. – I freed myself from words never said –
Jed never thought that the night would take the direction it was taking right now. At first, he thought that their night was going to end with them just enjoying their drinks by the bonfire until it was time for them to go back home with their desserts in their hold since they didn't have enough space in their stomachs to fully enjoy the desserts, but here he was, standing like a man frozen in time as he looked at Ben who was currently down on one knee, holding an engagement ring and proposing to him.
To say that Jed was surprised would be the understatement of the year. He realized belatedly that he'd just been staring at Ben for a while now without offering him an answer to put him out of his misery and quickly, he scrambled to say something. Jed wiped away his tears, still feeling as though he was stuck in a dream. Maybe all that food had put him in a food coma and he was just dreaming right now but it didn't feel like a dream. It felt real and the fact that it was real was enough to make his heart skip a beat. "Sorry, sorry." Jed offered with a chuckle falling from his lips not long after. He gave his answer afterwards. Jed didn't even need time to think of an answer because he knew exactly what he wanted to say.
"No, it's not too soon." Jed assured him, wiping his tears away again for the umpteenth time. "You really wanted me to cry tonight, didn't you? First the decorations and now this." Jed said with another chuckle falling from his lips. "Oh." He responded with a surprised look when it became clear that Ben had asked his parents for their blessings before proposing to Jed. "That's sweet." Jed offered back with a gentle smile on his lips. He seemed to remember that Ben was still holding his ring so Jed held out his hand, smiling again when Ben assured him that he was holding out the correct hand. "Okay, good. Never been proposed to before." Jed joked in a light-hearted manner, though there were tears still sliding down his cheeks.
"Wow." Jed mumbled mostly to himself as he saw the way the ring looked on his finger. The new added weight felt strange at first but it was the good type of strange. "I can't believe this is happening." Jed almost felt compelled to pinch himself to make sure that he wasn't dreaming. His eyes lifted to settle on Ben, his smile still evident on his lips. The amount of happiness on Ben's face was enough to make his heart skip a beat pleasantly. "I love you too. So much," Jed was more than happy to lean forward to reconnect their lips in a kiss before he wrapped his arms around Ben, holding him tightly. "One hell of a way to celebrate my last night as a werewolf." Jed said upon leaning back from the kiss, his smile still visible on his lips.

Ben had wanted Jed’s last night as a werewolf to be special but the truth was that there had been a part of him that had worried that Jed might think that it was too much or that he wasn’t ready to get married. It had been a relief to tell someone about what he wanted to do and he had known that he could count on Jed’s parents not to say anything but he also hadn’t wanted them to have to keep it to themselves for too long. He had been planning on asking Jed tonight ever since he’d revealed that he wanted to become a hybrid and Ben didn’t regret it one bit but now as he looked up at Jed waiting for his answer, those same nerves that had appeared earlier were reappearing once again. He had never done this before and truth be told even with Ashur he had never thought about getting married. It wasn’t something that had felt right for Ben back then but with Jed it did and he knew that he just had to hope that this would end up going the way he wanted it to. The longer he had to wait for Jed to give an answer the more Ben started to worry that he was going to say no or that he wasn’t ready yet but then he said yes and Ben felt happiness flow through him. He wasn’t asking because he felt like he had to considering that Jed had decided to take such a big step for them, he was asking because he wanted to and it looked like Jed could see that so Ben really was glad. “I’m so happy to hear you say that,” Ben admitted as Jed said that it wasn’t too soon. He knew that there were people who might think that they were crazy for moving in together and getting engaged so soon but Ben knew that he had found the person he was meant to be with in Jed and he knew that he didn’t want to waste any time in not being with him. As Jed spoke again, Ben couldn’t help but laugh. “I might have done, looks like it worked,” he teased, reaching up and wiping Jed’s tears away gently. He could see how surprised Jed was when he said that he’d asked Jed’s parents for their blessing and Ben’s expression softened as Jed said that it was sweet. “Even back when I was born it was customary to ask for the blessing of the parents before proposing, it’s one tradition I wanted to uphold,” he nodded. He knew that it would have felt strange asking without checking with Jed’s parents first so he was glad that he had done. As Jed said that he had never been proposed to before, Ben couldn’t help but laugh. “I’m glad I’m the first,” he chuckled. “Although if I had to I’d fight off any other suitors,” he added with a grin. He didn’t doubt that there would be others who would be captivated by Jed like he had been but Ben knew that what they had was solid so he really wasn’t worried. “That’s a good wow, right?” he asked, his breath catching in his throat at the sight of the ring on Jed’s finger. “It suits you, I knew it would,” he admitted. The moment he had seen the ring he had known that it was the one and now he was certain that he had made the right choice. As Jed said he couldn’t believe that this was happening, Ben felt a smile touch his lips and he let his hand rest against Jed’s cheek. “It is, this is real,” he said, blinking away happy tears of his own as his eyes met Jed’s. Hearing Jed say that he loved him too was enough to have Ben’s heart leaping in his chest and his hands found Jed’s waist as he kissed him back. As he said it was one hell of a way to celebrate his last night as a werewolf, Ben couldn’t help but laugh. “That’s what I was going for, I’m glad you approve,” he grinned. JED SALTZMAN
