– I freed myself from words never said –
Turning someone into a werewolf was truly the last thing on Jed's mind – it was a big responsibility and he wouldn't want to willingly put someone through the pain of each shift. He didn't want to make their lives difficult and for Eddie's case, he had made his already difficult life even more difficult. He knew it was for the greater good, but that doesn't mean that he wasn't still worried about Eddie. He knew that if he hadn't turned Eddie, he would have bled out and died and that wasn't an option. Eddie was still young and had his whole life ahead of him, he wasn't going to let his parents win and take an innocent life and so, he chose to turn him. It was either that, or he would call MG over and even with his best friend's vampire speed, it still wasn't guaranteed he'd make it on time to save an innocent boy's life. So, he chose to bite him and watched as the boy came to shortly after. There was a nagging voice in the back of his mind telling him that Eddie will hate him for this, when he experiences the excruciating pain of his first shift and many shifts to come with every full moon, but he shoved that voice to the side and instead choose to accept the consequences of his own actions, knowing that he will definitely train Eddie a lot and make him aware of what to expect on the next full moon. He didn't realize just how blessed he'd been to be born in a pack. Sure, living with his father had been hell on earth but back then, he'd known what to expect shortly after activating his curse and how to hone his instincts to become a skilled predator rather than a weak prey.
Jed was at least glad that the Roswell family hadn't lost Eddie that night. He could tell that they cared about him. Or, at least, the functional members of the family did. Jed took Eddie to the school because he had a feeling he'd be safer there. After all, he can't leave him with his siblings because he was worried about Eddie losing control. He was in a vulnerable place and one wrong word might just set him off. Or at least that's what Jed thought.
Jed snapped out of his thoughts with a soft sigh and reached into his pocket to withdraw his keys, having just realized that he'd been standing there staring at the door, lost in his own thoughts for god knows how long. It was about time for him to head back home and get some sleep after a stressful night. Jed unlocked the door and stepped inside, closing the door behind him with a lock. Jed toed off his shoes by the door and gently placed them side by side. "Ben?" Jed called out, his eyes searching for any sight of his boyfriend. It was a little late since he had found it difficult to leave Eddie behind but Charlie had assured him that he'll give him a call if anything happens so he took his word for it and went back home. It was also safe to assume that he'd missed Ben, too. It was definitely a long day and an even longer night. But it felt good to be home. Really good.

Ben hadn’t lived with anyone for a long time but it had to be said that he loved living with Jed. Before they’d moved into their place they had split their time between the Saltzman house and the dorms and it had worked but it hadn’t even come close to having a place of their own. It had taken them a while to find a place but in the end they had managed it and now they were in the process of making the house their home. Thankfully all of their friends and Jed’s family had been supportive rather than trying to talk them out of it and Ben knew that he wouldn’t have it any other way. He knew that to some it might seem like they were rushing things but the truth was that he really had waited thousands of years to find Jed and he had lost him once so Ben knew that he didn’t want to waste any more time. They were only in their first year of college so there was still plenty that they had yet to do and Ben knew that he wanted Jed to be able to experience everything but he knew that they would get there. He knew that Jed had once thought about becoming a hybrid so they wouldn’t be separated by old age but he hadn’t brought it up since so Ben had made his peace with the fact that he might only be able to spend a mortal lifetime with Jed. Either way he knew that it would be filled with memories for both of them and he knew that he wanted to make the most of every moment. He knew what it was like to lose someone he loved because he had gone through exactly that with Ashur and he knew that he didn’t want to go through the same thing with Jed because the love he felt for Jed was so much stronger than anything he had ever felt before but at the end of the day it was Jed’s decision and he knew that he would respect what he decided either way. Thankfully they had a lot of years ahead of them anyway and Ben knew that he wanted to make the most of all of it. That day Jed had been spending time with his pack while Ben had ended up spending time with some of his friends and he’d ended up having a pretty good day. He had ended up getting home before Jed which wasn’t unexpected since he knew how the pack could get and he busied himself with things that needed to be done around the house. As time went on he ended up making himself something to eat after trying to call Jed to find out how long he was going to be only to end up not getting an answer but he made enough for two so Jed could reheat his when he got home if he was hungry. After that Ben settled himself on the sofa to watch one of the movies that Landon had raved about to pass the time. It was quiet being in the house alone but Ben knew that would change once Jed got home. After the second movie Ben ended up falling asleep on the sofa and only woke up when he heard Jed’s voice calling out to him. Rubbing his eyes, he made his way out into the hall. “Hey, did you have fun with the –” he began, his voice trailing off as his gaze came to rest on Jed and he realised how exhausted he looked. “What happened? Are you okay?” he asked, immediately concerned that something had happened to him. Ben’s gaze quickly swept over Jed but there didn’t seem to be any visible signs of injury and that was a relief but it still didn’t make him feel any better just yet. JED SALTZMAN

Jed noticed two things upon laying his eyes on Ben. First, was how he looked like he'd just woken up and the second was the worried look that soon etched onto his expression upon seeing Jed. He wondered just how much his expression and his body language had given away before he could tell Ben about the crazy day that he's just had. "Don't worry, I'm okay." At first, he thought it would be vital to assure Ben that he was okay. He wasn't injured in any way, just exhausted because for some reason, the night seemed to drag on a lot longer than expected and it ended with an unexpected bang, so that was also the source of his exhaustion. He just hoped that he'd done the right thing leaving Eddie, even if it was only for the night so they could both get some much-needed rest. He hoped that Charlie wasn't just reassuring him to get him to leave but knowing the kid, he wouldn't do such a thing so that helped calm his nerves for now, at least. "It's just been a long day and an even longer night." And because of that, he was just instantly happy to see Ben because being with his boyfriend helped ease his worries. It was the sort of effect that Ben had on him.
"I'm sorry, for waking you up." Jed added a moment later, his hand reaching out to rest on Ben's shoulder. "I was planning on coming home a lot earlier, actually, but uh..." Jed trailed off, his eyes adapting a faraway look as memories of the night came rushing back as if he needed a reminder. He quickly snapped out of it, though, and cleared his throat, realizing that he'd left the sentence hanging awkwardly. "To be honest with you, I don't even know where to start." Jed admitted with a brief sigh falling from his lips not long after. Should he dive into the details right away first or give Ben a picture of who Eddie was? Well, the latter might just be a good way to start since Ben had no idea who Eddie was and why he'd turned him. "We might need to sit down for this." Jed cleared his throat, figuring that would be a good thing to start with, at least. "Or would you prefer we lay down in bed instead? I know it's late."

Even though Ben spent a lot of time with Jed and they lived together, they still spent time apart as well and that day had been one of those. Jed had wanted to catch up with the pack so Ben had ended up hanging out with some of his friends. He always missed Jed when they weren’t together but he knew it was important that they do their own thing sometimes as well so it was just one of those things. Ben had to admit that he had thought that Jed would be back before now but he had just assumed that he was busy catching up with the pack because he knew that Jed would have called him if he had needed him. Instead he’d watched a couple of movies before falling asleep but Jed’s voice woke him up and he was instantly worried when he saw how exhausted Jed looked. “You’re sure?” he asked, his gaze falling to the blood on Jed’s shirt. “That’s not yours, is it?” he asked, his gaze sweeping over Jed as he tried to find any signs of injury and thankfully didn’t find any. As Jed said that it had been a long day and an even longer night, Ben moved forward and let his hand rest against Jed’s cheek. “It’s okay, you’re home now,” he said gently. As Jed said he was sorry for waking him up, Ben shook his head. “It’s fine. I meant to wait up for you anyway, I didn’t want to go to bed without you,” he admitted. It just didn’t feel right sleeping alone, not when they had their own place now so he had been more than happy to wait up for Jed. “Why don’t you start at the beginning?” he suggested as he took Jed’s hand and led him into the living room. “Are you hungry? I had something to eat earlier but I made enough for you as well, I can reheat it for you if you like,” he offered, knowing that whatever had happened that had affected Jed like this shouldn’t stop him from looking after himself as well. “Let’s sit down here first, I get the feeling this is going to be pretty heavy,” Ben said, disappearing into the kitchen to grab them each a beer before sitting down next to Jed and opening his beer before taking his boyfriend’s hand in his. “Whatever it is you can tell me, what happened?”JED SALTZMAN

Jed nodded his head with a gentle smile tugging at the corners of his lips when Ben asked him if he was sure. "Positive." Eddie's parents had avoided contact with him entirely, choosing to abandon the fight before it could get out of hand and result in them getting hurt and potentially killed if he did manage to leave a bite on either one of them. He didn't feel good knowing that they were out there somewhere, but at least they weren't anywhere near close the kids. With a confused expression, Jed looked down to find blood on his shirt. "Oh." The blood was mostly dry by now which was a good thing, at least. He should've seen it before going to the school but it was too late for that now. "No, no, it's not." It was mostly all Eddie's. "I didn't even see it until now." Jed scratched the back of his head with a soft sigh falling from his lips.
Jed was all too happy to lean into the touch, his eyes momentarily fluttering shut as he allowed himself to get lost in the contact that filled his heart with assurance. He was home. God, just the realization alone made him feel so much lighter.
Jed's expression softened when Ben told him that he didn't want to go to bed without him. "Okay." That made him feel better about waking Ben up, at least. Jed found it hard to find a good place to start, so Ben suggested that he starts from the beginning which was more than enough to get Jed to nod a few times. "Yeah, that's probably for the best." With Ben's hand in his own, he was guided to the living room. "Oh, um, I don't really feel hungry yet." Jed's soft voice soon made itself known once more. "Maybe in a bit?" He didn't want what Ben had made for him to go to waste, so he was going to eat in a bit once his appetite was fueled back up.
When Ben chose to sit down, Jed nodded his head, all too happy to do just that. He watched as Ben made his way into the kitchen to grab them something to drink before heading right back where they sat down together. The sensation of the chilled beer definitely felt really nice. But it wasn't nicer than the feeling of Ben's hand in his own. "Okay, so, the story from the beginning is that I was out with my pack, everything was going fine then I hear this side conversation between two people. A boy and a girl. They seemed in distress, so I went back to check on them. They tell me the craziest thing I've heard in a while, actually." Jed took a pause so that he could take a sip from the beer before lowering it back down. "Apparently, they've run away from home because their parents were going to kill one of them. It was like, the sick version of hide and seek. They haven't been able to get any help because their parents have been compelling them." Their parents were not only sick, but they were monsters, too.
"It was the most screwed up thing I've seen in a while. They had a lot of kids. They were near my age or a bit older. Some of them looked sickly, Ben. Like they haven't been eating or drinking. Their parents were keeping them as blood bags." Jed's expression turned into one of disgust. "I didn't get there in time, though. There was one of the kids, Eddie. He'd been the target of that sick game. He was losing a lot of blood and he was almost gone." Jed paused, the stench of blood had been way too strong for him to ignore. It almost felt like it was everywhere. Surrounding him from each corner.
"It was a race against time so I had to bite him. He survived the bite, thankfully, but I just – I feel really lost, honestly. I've never turned anyone before. I'm just worried that I saved him from one hell to put him in another..."

Ben visibly relaxed when Jed said he was positive that he was fine, he had thought that Jed was just having fun with his pack and had lost track of time but one look at Jed was enough to tell him that it was something so much more than that. It looked like Jed had the weight of the world on his shoulders right now and Ben hoped that his boyfriend would let him help as much as he could. They had made a promise to each other a long time ago that they were going to be honest with each other and weren’t going to hide things from each other and now it was Jed’s turn to share some of the burden with him. “That’s good,” Ben nodded as Jed confirmed that the blood wasn’t his. Something had clearly happened and Ben wished that he had been there with Jed but he also knew that it wouldn’t be healthy for them to spend all of their time together so he knew that he was just going to have to settle for letting Jed get what had happened off his chest and support him now that he could. Seeing the smile form on Jed’s face was enough to make a smile form on Ben’s as well. He got the impression that Jed had been through something awful but he was home now and he was safe and Ben didn’t want him to forget that. Ben really did want to hear what had happened and it seemed that Jed didn’t know where to start so starting from the beginning seemed like a good idea and luckily Jed seemed to think so as well. “Sure. You don’t have to eat it if you don’t want to,” Ben nodded, knowing that it wouldn’t be the end of the world if he didn’t. He hadn’t known what Jed was up to or whether he had eaten so it had been natural for Ben to make something for his boyfriend in case he wanted it when he got home as well. It was tempting to take Jed up on the offer of talking in bed but this was something that Ben got the impression that Jed needed to get off his chest so he knew that it would be easier to focus in the living room. Having a beer together had become somewhat of a tradition for them ever since the day they met and it was something that he had a feeling that they could do with continuing now so he grabbed two beers from the freezer before returning to the living room and sitting down next to Jed. Ben knew that he could have wrapped his arm around Jed and had more contact with him that way but Jed had made it clear how much he liked holding his hand so he opted for that instead for now, lifting his bottle to his lips with his free hand and taking a sip. Ben listened intently as Jed explained what had happened and his eyes widened in surprise as Jed said that the boy and girl had run away from home because their parents were going to kill one of them. “What?” he breathed, the shock evident in his voice as he spoke. He and Jed both knew firsthand how awful parents could be but this was something completely new and it was enough to make Ben feel sick to his stomach. “That’s awful. How could they do that?” he asked as Jed said that some of the kids looked like they hadn’t been eating and drinking and were being kept as blood bags. Ben’s heart sank as Jed mentioned Eddie and said that he was almost gone when he got there. From there Ben knew that there was only one thing that Jed could have done and it sounded like he had done it. “It’s because of you that he’s alive, don’t forget that,” Ben said gently as he gave Jed’s hand a gentle squeeze. “If you hadn’t bitten him then he would have died. From what you’ve told me being a werewolf isn’t easy but he won’t be alone because he has you looking out for him. I’d say that make him pretty lucky, all things considered.”JED SALTZMAN

"Oh, you know how I feel about the food you make for me. I am gonna eat it." Jed promised with a gentle smile resting on his lips. So far, he hadn't skipped a single meal that Ben had made for him. Sometimes, Jed took over and cooked for them, too. But he did have a thing for Ben's cooking. In a way, it reminded him of home. He also just didn't want Ben's efforts and thoughtfulness to go to waste or something like that.
Shortly after that, Jed took it upon himself to tell Ben about what had happened. The crazy family, the kids, the absurdness of it all. "They're monsters." Jed shook his head with a small frown tugging at his features. While he wasn't the type to go in for the kill right away, he knew it would've been for the greater good to rid the world of such evil people. But they'd managed to get away and with Eddie practically bleeding out right before his eyes, he had to make a choice. Go after them or help Eddie out. He chose the latter almost right away. He knew that even though they had managed to get away, they will slip up. People like them always do and when they do, Jed will be there.
Jed released a soft sigh as he nodded his head slowly. "I know and I'm glad that he's okay. He's still so young and he's got so much ahead of him. He didn't deserve what his parents had done to him." Just the thought alone of him dying left a bitter taste on Jed's tongue. Jed lifted his drink up to his lips to take a quick sip as he listened to Ben. He was right. Jed won't leave him without guidance and thanks to the bite, the kid was alive. His body had healed nicely which was definitely a good thing. "I just hope that, down the road, he won't hate me for turning him." Jed expressed his worries, his tone still soft as he spoke, albeit a bit quiet. "For now, I just have to teach him the basics and get him prepared for the next full moon. It's all that I can do, really." Jed's shoulders lifted and dropped in a quick shrug before he took another sip from his drink.

“I know. It can keep until morning thought,” Ben offered. Truth be told he had never really bothered learning to cook just for himself but after their trip to New Orleans when they had decided that they were going to get a place together he had started learning and he had picked up a few things from Jenna as well. She had said that she hadn’t wanted them skipping meals or eating takeout all the time and they were sticking to their promise. They both shared the cooking and so far it seemed to be working out pretty well. Ben had known that there was bound to be a reason why Jed was so late getting back but he had never thought it would be anything like that. “They sound like it. I’ll never understand how parents can treat their children like that.” He and Jed had both drawn the short straw as far as biological fathers went and it sounded like Eddie and the other kids hadn’t done much better in the parent department either. “They’re lucky you were around to help them,” he added, knowing that there were plenty of people who would have either dismissed it as nothing more than a prank or, if they had believed them, they probably wouldn’t have even bothered trying to help. Jed wasn’t like that, though, so Ben was glad he had been there. “No, he didn’t,” Ben agreed as Jed said that Eddie didn’t deserve what his parents had done to him. “It might take him time to get his head around it all but I don’t think he’ll hate you. By the sounds of it there wasn’t anything else that you could have done to save him.” Eddie had a rough road ahead of him, that was for sure, but Ben really hoped that he would understand why Jed had done what he had done in the end. “It’ll all work out, don’t worry. It’ll just take time,” Ben assured him gently. “I know you’ve got this but if there is anything I can do to help let me know,” he added as he took a sip of his drink. Ben wasn’t sure how much help he would be able to give Eddie since he didn’t know what it was like to turn into an animal during the full moon but he could give Jed some moral support at least. Jed felt a gentle smile tug on his lips as he nodded his head a few times. "Okay." He replied, his voice still soft. It gave him the chance to get some sleep and recharge so that he could enjoy the meal tomorrow morning. At least then, his appetite would be back and fiercer than ever. Or at least, he hoped so. Soon after, he was telling Ben about what had happened today and just talking about it made Jed wonder just how they had managed to survive up until the moment Jed had managed to drive their parents out. It must have been incredibly difficult for them. It didn't seem to be that difficult for some of the kids, but the others looked way worse and it made Jed's stomach clench. He just hoped that he had given them a chance to start a new life away from their parents and that their parents wouldn't be able to find them. They deserved to know what it feels like to have a normal life that's not spent behind locked doors and severe restrictions.
"Tell me 'bout it. I think they beat us by miles with our daddy issues." Jed said with a brief chuckle falling from his lips. Both Jed and Ben didn't have the best luck with biological parents and it was downright awful, but Eddie and his family made Jed realize that he could've had a lot worse. If anything, he was one of the lucky.
"I have no idea where their parents went. They vamped out before I could stop them. I wanna believe that they won't go after the kids once the coast's clear, but I'd be fooling myself. They won't just let them go." Jed shook his head. At least, that's what he firmly believed. "I'm worried about them. All of them, not just Eddie." Jed bit down on his bottom lip, his eyes relaxed ahead of him as his thoughts wandered. "Eddie's the kid that I bit." Jed clarified. "I thought about getting them back to the school, but, I don't think that'll be a wise choice. I don't think any of them knew their parents were vampires. Exposing them to all sorts of supernatural creature won't be a wise choice. With how invitations work, I just hope that when they move somewhere safe, that'll at least protect them until I get there." Jed said with a soft sigh falling from his lips not long after. He'd given Summer his number, letting her know that she can call him at any time, but most importantly to call him if their parents ever showed up. He knew he could trust Summer to do that.
"None of them did." Jed added as he lifted his drink up to take a quick sip. "Even though one of them was clearly okay with what her parents were doing. She didn't want me to stop her parents." Jed could tell that she was pretty messed up in the head and needed some serious help. Jed was worried about her and what she could do to her siblings. He just hoped that he was looking too much into it and now that her parents are gone, she'll be a lot more tolerable and nice to her siblings. Being a werewolf wasn't a walk in the park. The heightened senses, the strength, the pain of each shift, the anger, all of it. It was tough. "You think so?" Jed replied back when Ben told him that he doesn't think Eddie will hate him. "I just hope you're right and I didn't just screw this kid's life up instead of saving it."
"There wasn't. Even if I called MG, it would've been too late. I thought about everything before I gave him the bite." Because he knew the consequences of biting him would be severe and definitely life-changing. But there wasn't much else he could've done and with his siblings worried about losing him, he had to do it.
"I hope so, Ben." Jed replied with a soft sigh falling from his lips when Ben told him that it will work out. God, he hoped so. Jed nodded his head. Time. He could give him that. That shouldn't be an issue at all. He'll have to be patient with the kid and help him through this and it should be fine, right? ... He hoped so. "Of course. Thank you, Ben. This is already a big help." Just being able to talk about it with Ben was already helping him. So he was pretty thankful for that.

Ben knew that it was easy to forget to do simple things like eat well but he and Jed had made a promise to Jenna the day they moved in together and they were working hard to keep it. They always shared jobs like that and they always looked after each other. Ben hadn’t known whether Jed had eaten while he was out or whether he would want something when he got back so he had made enough for two just in case but he knew that he didn’t want Jed to feel like he had to eat it that night if he really didn’t want to. It really did sound like Jed had had an eventful day and Ben couldn’t blame him for not being hungry. It really was crazy just how much could happen in such a short space of time and his heart went out to Jed. He knew that Jed hadn’t bitten anyone before but he had definitely done it for the right reasons. It was still a big deal, though, and Ben knew that he wanted to be there for Jed and the family he’d helped in any way that he could. It sounded like they had all been through a lot and there was a part of him that wished that he could have been there to help but Jed had done everything right and Ben hoped that in time they would see that too. As Jed said they beat them by miles with their daddy issues, Ben couldn’t help but laugh. “You got that right, they can definitely keep that title,” he chuckled. “We might not have done too well in the biological parent department but we got it right with the adoptive parents at least,” he added, knowing that that was something that they had in common considering that his adoptive mom and Ashur’s dad had always been good to him. As Jed said he didn’t know where the parents went, a frown formed on Ben’s face. “I hate to say it but from what you’ve told me I think you might be right. They’re going to want their kids back even if it is just so they have an easy blood source again so we’re going to have to keep an eye on them,” Ben nodded. He knew that Jed and the pack could handle it but it would mean spreading themselves pretty thin so Ben wanted to help and he had a feeling that the Squad wouldn’t hesitate in pitching in as well. “It would probably be throwing them in at the deep end a bit to take them all to the school right now but if they decide that they want to learn about the supernatural then it might be a good place for them to do that,” he said, thinking of Charlie and the way he was a student at the school even though he was human. “If any of them have missed out on their education then it would also be a safe place for them to catch up like I did,” he added. Ben knew that he wouldn’t have managed it if he had gone to a regular high school but he’d had Jed and the others around to help him study and get up to speed with where he needed to be and that was something that they could do for this family if they wanted it too. Ben nodded as Jed said that he hoped that invitations would work to protect them until he got there when they moved but he hesitated when Ben said that one of the kids hadn’t wanted Jed to stop her parents. “Do you think she might help them get their claws back in the other kids?” he asked, hating the way that the girl sounded so much like a threat to the others if she was on their parents’ side. It was messed up to say the least and Ben couldn’t deny that he was worried that the girl might end up betraying her siblings. “I do,” he nodded as Jed asked whether he meant it when he said he didn’t think that Eddie would end up hating him. “You saved his life, he wouldn’t be here right now if not for you,” Ben said gently. “It’ll be tough for him but he’ll have you to help him through it and you know what you’re doing,” he added. Jed had been a werewolf for years and he had a pack that he looked out for already so Ben didn’t doubt that his boyfriend would take it in his stride. “I know you did, you always do,” Ben said gently, bringing his hand up and letting it rest against Jed’s cheek as he said that he thought about everything before biting Eddie. “You’re not the kind of guy who makes a decision like that on a whim.” Jed always put others first and there wasn’t a doubt in his mind that he would have gone for another option if there was one. “It will, just stay positive,” Ben assured him as Jed said he hoped that it would work out. This was such a big deal for Jed since Eddie was his first Beta and Ben knew that he wanted it to work out for Jed more than anything. “Maybe you could try talking to Scott and see if he has any advice?” he suggested, remembering the other Alpha’s name being mentioned before by Josie. Jed’s next words were enough to have Ben’s expression softening as he looked over at Jed. “You don’t need to thank me, you know I’m always here for you.”JED SALTZMAN

– I freed myself from words never said –
A chuckle soon left Jed's lips as he nodded his head in agreement. He was more than happy to let them have the title with no exchanges or returns allowed. "Just goes to show that sometimes family isn't the one you're born in, but one that you find or make." Sometimes though people are blessed with functional families of their own. They were the lucky ones. While the ones with non-existent lucks had to live with their own dysfunctional families. "Yeah... They won't give up that easy." Jed trailed off with a soft sigh falling from his lips. He just can't imagine their parents giving up on them just because they were chased out of their homes by a werewolf and a pack of were-creatures. They got lucky once, he doubted luck would stand by their side next time.
"I'll let Eddie know that once he's got his powers under control, he'll have the choice to go back to his family or stay at the school. I don't want him to feel forced to stay. This isn't what the school stands for." Jed just needs to make sure that he's got his new powers under control first to minimize the chances of him losing control or hurting someone. It's not someone that you could just easily come back from.
"The school can help them with a lot of things, honestly. Some of them looked like they haven't even done most of the things that we sometimes take for granted. But, I'll just wait for the green signal to make the suggestion because some of them don't really trust me still." Jed realized that with a family with so much trauma, waiting was the right choice to make. Forcing them just won't do them any good, really.
Jed nodded his head once, his expression turning grim for a moment. "Without a doubt. She needs help. Serious help." The way she seemed to enjoy the hunt told Jed a lot of things about her. None of those things were good ones. Jed released a soft sigh, taking a moment to lean back a little, his eyes focused on the drink in his head. "Do I, though?" Jed asked with a brief chuckle falling from his lips. In a way, he never needed to teach someone how to be a werewolf or a were-creature from scratch. It didn't sound like an easy task and he worried that he'll somehow wind up sounding like his biological dad. "I'm just glad that he's alive." Jed added a moment later. Come what may, he will do his absolute best to help Eddie out.
Jed wanted anything but for Eddie to become a werewolf. It won't be easy for the kid from thereon out. But, unfortunately, his choices had been limited that day with turning Eddie being the only choice available or else he'd lose his life way too young. Jed leaned into the touch, his lips stretching into a small smile. "I'll try." Jed promised a moment later. He couldn't really do much other than hope that things will go smoothly for the kid. "Oh, that's a good idea." He knew that if anyone could help with the aftermath of biting someone, it'd be Scott.
"I appreciate it." Jed said with visible gentleness in the tone of his voice. With everything that has happened today, it felt great to just unwind, relax, and forget all about it. Whatever tomorrow may bring, he'll be ready for it by the end of today.

“Definitely. Our little family here just the two of us, the Squad and the Saltzmans – that’s our family,” Ben nodded, knowing that they were really lucky to have that after what they’d been through. “It will take time but hopefully they’ll stick together even despite the circumstances that brought them together in the first place but if not then they’ll have use and others looking out for them. We can be their family if they’ll let us,” he said gently. It sounded like they really had been through a lot and Ben couldn’t help but feel bad for them. They had been dealt an awful hand in life but from now on he really hoped that things would start looking up for all of them. “I wish I could say I’m surprised but I’m not,” Ben admitted as Jed agreed that the kids’ parents weren’t going to give up easily. “It might take a while for things to settle down for them but we’ll do what we can to help them and I think the Squad will as well,” he added. They weren’t going to let the family go through this alone and Ben could only hope that they would be open to accepting their help. “You’re right, that isn’t what the school stands for. You can still be pretty persuasive when you want to be though,” Ben said, a smile forming on his face as he looked over at his boyfriend. Jed had made it clear to him that he hadn’t had to stay at the school but by the end Ben had wanted to and it turned out that that was one of the best decisions he had ever made. It had changed his life for the better and he hoped that the same would prove to be true for Eddie and his siblings. “It’ll probably be a while before they trust anyone completely but they’ll come around when they see you’re not going to abandon them.” It sounded like they hadn’t had that many people in their corner lately so Ben hoped that by showing them some kindness then they would start to realise that not everyone was like their parents. “Hopefully she’ll get it. Her siblings don’t deserve to have to live with someone like that in their midst,” he nodded. He couldn’t even begin to imagine how tough that had to be for them and he wasn’t sure whether some time away from their parents would change their sister’s attitude but he honestly hoped that it would for all of their sakes. “You know what it means to be a werewolf and you’ve helped others before. Maybe not quite this early on but I have faith in you so you just need to have faith in yourself,” he said gently. There wasn’t a doubt in his mind that Jed could do this but Ben knew that if he had to keep reminding Jed of that then he would. “Same here, it would have been a real shame if he’d died,” Ben agreed. He knew that he had the power to bring people back to life considering that he’d done just that for Jed but the truth was that he still didn’t really know too much about how his powers worked so he wasn’t sure whether he would have been able to bring Eddie back if the worst had happened to him. Thankfully Jed had been there to save him so now it was a case of hoping that Eddie would accept Jed’s help. As Jed said he would try and stay positive, Ben felt a smile touch his lips. “I’ll keep reminding you if you waiver, don’t worry,” he assured him, knowing that it was only fair considering that Jed had done the same for him on more than a few occasions. “I bet he’d be happy to help, you don’t have to do this on your own,” Ben promised. He would be there for Jed as much as he could but the truth was that Ben didn’t know the first thing about how to help a new werewolf get to grips with their powers so he hoped Jed would reach out to Scott and that Scott would be willing to help him. As Jed said he appreciated it that he would always be there for him, Ben’s smile returned. “We’re partners, it’s what we do. We look out for each other,” he said, pressing a gentle kiss to the top of Jed’s head as he wrapped his arms around him. JED SALTZMAN

– I freed myself from words never said –
Sometimes the real family you're born into isn't the right one but then you find a new family for yourself in the people you love or the ones who take you in. The family that Jed had now was what he'd wanted all along but for some reason ended up with an angry father with many, many issues. But then later on, he found himself in a whole new family that showed him what it's like to actually have supportive parents and people who genuinely care about you and don't see you as weak or someone who constantly has to showcase they aren't weak or live up to ridiculously high standards.
Then he found the squad and Ben, and just like that, his life was complete. "The best family I could've ever hoped for." Ben, the Saltzmans, the squad... They all meant so much to Jed and he would've been completely lost without them. For him, it was hard to decipher the way the Roswell family felt about each other. It really hadn't looked like they tolerated each other that much. Or at least some of them just didn't look all too happy about the others but he hoped that they'd come to see that they had each other to count and lean on now to survive in the outside world. Jed was quiet as he listened to Ben for the most part, nodding his head slowly to showcase his agreement. "Absolutely," he voiced his agreement aloud when Ben said they could be their family.
"I just hate the uncertainty of it all. The racing question of will their parents attack now or later? I just don't know." Jed gnawed on his inner cheeks for a moment with a shake of his head. "Now they have to live with that fear too. Even though they're out of that hellhole, I can't help but feel like most of them don't even feel free yet. Not while their parents are out there somewhere." It was an awful thing to think about, but a deep part of him hoped that a hunter would come across the vampires and put an end to them before they could ruin the poor kids' lives any further.
Jed let out a chuckle at the reminder of how he had managed to persuade Ben to stay with them at the school. "Yeah, I guess I can be." Jed said with a smile resting on his lips long after his laughter had subsided. "I'm not planning on going anywhere." Even though they didn't trust him, he was still going to be there to help if they ever needed him to. He won't let them struggle on their own without anyone to look after them. They had suffered enough already.
Jed released a soft sigh, he had this sinking feeling about that girl. It was a feeling he couldn't decipher, but it wasn't exactly a good feeling. Something about her worried Jed that she'd do something drastic and put her siblings' lives in danger. He just hoped that his gut feeling was wrong for once. His attention drifted back to Ben and deep down, he knew that Ben had a point. Even though he wasn't skilled when it comes to teaching people how to be werewolves from scratch, he was still pretty good at helping wolves or werecreatures. He'd been a pack leader since the moment he'd stepped into the school. "Yeah. I will." Jed offered back with a small smile tugging at his lips. He will, at least, try to have some faith that he'll be able to give Eddie the help that he needed and deserved. "Yeah." Jed nodded in agreement. The world would've lost an innocent young man who still had so much ahead of him. It would've been a cruel fate for a boy who deserved far better than that.
Jed's lips stretched into a soft smile. "I'm counting on it." He replied back, his softness still visible in the tone of his voice. "Well then, I'll take all the help that I can get." Jed added, his smile still present. "Yeah, we do." He was more than happy to lean into Ben's embrace, closing his eyes for a moment just so that he could just enjoy the feeling of having Ben close to him like this.

Ben knew that family didn’t end with blood, he had never known his biological mother and his biological father had turned out to be an angel who was a complete dick. Ben knew that his life would have turned out very differently if he had been brought up by his biological parents but growing up with his adoptive mother, Ashur and his father had helped shape Ben into the person that he was meant to be. He knew that he had changed a lot since then but there were things that they had taught him that he still held onto to this day and he knew that that was never going to change. He’d found a whole new family since arriving in Mystic Falls, though, and he knew that he wouldn’t have it any other way. “I feel the same way,” Ben admitted. He knew that they were both truly blessed to have found the family that they had now and he knew that he wanted to hold onto them for as long as possible. Ben had met so many people over the years and he had lost all of them in one way or another but this time it felt different. So many of the Squad were immortal and Ben had a feeling that they wouldn’t turn their backs on each other no matter how much time passed so for once he’d made some lasting connections and he couldn’t deny that he was happy about that. “It will be up to them but hopefully they’ll let us in,” Ben nodded as Jed agreed that they could become family for the Roswells as well. They had been through so much by the sounds of it and their parents had let them down when they should have been the ones to protect them but that didn’t mean that everyone would be like that and he hoped that in time they would see that too. “There’s no way you can predict it, all you can do is look out for them and make sure that they know what they’re up against,” Ben said gently. Not knowing would make them vulnerable and that was something that wouldn’t do them any good. “Hopefully they’ll look out for each other as well.” Ben had a feeling that at least some of them would be worried about Eddie now that he was at the Salvatore School but being there surrounded by others like him really was what was best for him right now so Ben hoped that they would see that. As Jed said he didn’t think that some of the kids would feel free while their parents were out there somewhere, Ben’s expression turned thoughtful for a moment. “I hate to say it but have you thought about asking your dad for help?” he asked, knowing that Ric was used to hunting when he had to. “You worked your magic with me, I won’t be surprised if Eddie decided to stay at the school as well,” Ben grinned. He really hadn’t been planning on staying when he’d woken up at the school but Jed had convinced him to give it a chance and it was one of the best decisions that Ben had ever made. It had literally changed his life for the better and he hoped that the same thing would happen for Eddie as well. “I didn’t think you would,” he assured him gently. Jed wasn’t the kind of person to turn his back on anyone and Ben didn’t doubt that he would stand by them even if they weren’t ready to accept his help quite yet. It was a shame that there was at least one kid in the family who was on their parents’ side and Ben hoped that she would come around in the end. The family really did deserve a break after everything that they had been through and Ben hoped they were going to get it. Right now Eddie was being given a break by having Jed look out for him at least. He might not have taught a new werewolf from scratch before but Jed knew what it was like to be a werewolf and have to figure things out on his own for a while so Ben knew that he was the right person to help Eddie even if Jed might not necessarily believe that right now. “Just being there for him will go a long way,” Ben assured him gently. Sometimes that was all anyone could do and being there for people was something that Jed was very good at. “It’s only fair considering you do that for me all the time,” Ben said, a smile forming on his face as he looked over at Jed. As he said he would take all the help he could get, Ben nodded. “You’ve got this,” he said gently as Jed said he would take all the help he could get. Reaching out to Scott for advice would hopefully help Jed feel more confident in himself if nothing else. As Jed agreed that they looked out for each other, Ben felt a smile touch his lips and he kissed the top of Jed’s head gently as he held him. “Do you want to stay down here for a while or shall we get some rest?” he asked at last, not sure how tired Jed was feeling right now.
