On his knees, guilt a lead weight in his stomach, he’d cleaned the mess off of the floorboards. Shattered glass swept into a dustpan like the shards of lives that had been shattered for a second time. He hadn’t been able to bring himself to ask Darcey to help. His brother had done this once already, trying to piece back together a life that was never going to be the same without his wife in it. Nicky knew it hadn’t fitted back together perfectly for Darce – or Mandy – there would always be a piece missing from the centre, Lorna’s death carving it out permanently.
Nicky took a deep huff from the third cigarette he’d smoked since they’d left the flat, squinting at Darcey through the pall of smoke that curled over the top of the car. He slammed the door, leaned against the side of it for a moment. They’d kept functioning without Lorna as a part of the puzzle, but Mandy … she hadn’t just taken a piece with her, she’d taken the whole centre out of them, leaving little but a thin border behind. Thin enough that another blow might break them into pieces for good. Especially his big brother.
Getting him out of the house these days wasn’t easy. An endless cycle of fitfully snatched naps and searching, every ounce of power either one of them could muster up poured into the spells, tanks full of petrol wasted driving around the streets of Mystic Falls, heels blistered as they’d walked the woods. There’d been nothing after the kid Mandy had apparently been knocking around with had tossed a few babbled details that way. No signs, not a twitch on the map. Just a deathly silence that wouldn’t stop. If it wasn’t for Cassie and the need to keep the shop running – for appearances sake as much as keeping the girl employed – he’d have stayed in the bubble of it without relief. Not wanting to leave Darce on his own, not sharing the watch since Sadie had stopped coming around.
A flick of his fingers deposited a pile of ash on the roof of the car. The wind would take it in the end, scattering it like their hopes had been time and time again. ”Come on. We grab the books and we head back. I’m not gonna stay yappin’ all afternoon. Cross my heart.” And hope to die. The childish words stuck in Nicky’s head as he jerked his head back. Whatever was left in the back room that might offer up something, every book, every grimoire ending up at the flat to be pulled apart.
Cassie would maybe look up with hope on her young face when the bell above the door tinkled, but all he’d feel was that grim doubt biting deep again. It’d been weeks, months, everyone and their mum knew that not finding someone immediately was a bad sign – Darcey knew, his own disappearance giving him all sorts of impossible to escape knowledge on the matter.
Nicky tried to school his expression as he turned to trail into the shop. He’d been back the day after Mandy had been gone, cleaning up, feeling as though he were bleeding out on the floor, the way Mandy had done. Poring over every bit of damage as though it would somehow confirm what the kid – Rhys – had told them. An English man who wanted to take something from their sister. As vague as it was worrying. In a town that sported dozens of different accents, tracing him had been as impossible as it had tracing Mandy.
The cigarette was ground out against the doorframe as he passed, the butt palmed as he walked into the shop, brows knotted. Every drop of blood on the floor, every bit he could get clear of the broken glass, ash and spilt milkshake had been bespelled, desperately hoping that one hadn’t been Cassie’s, but they’d come up just as short. ”How fuckin’ hard can it be finding one English arsehole in this town?” he muttered to Darcey as the door glided shut behind the pair of them. ”He strolls in ‘ere as if he owns the place, smashes it up, somehow gets around Mandy nearly lightin’ him up and still snatches her out of here with nobody noticin’. I …” He wanted to holler, wanted to let that tremor roll through his hands as he raged again. Over the weeks Mandy had been gone he’d paced the flat, letting all that anger and fear boil off of him, it hadn’t been enough. Nicky still didn’t understand why. Why here, why Mandy, what on earth could this dickhead want with Mandy? What had the sirens wanted Darcey for? There was no answer, none that would fucking justify any of it.
Feeling the frustration roll through him again, Nicky scrubbed his thumb and forefinger against his eyes. They were gritty, sunk deep with the never ending stress. The grim expression on his face softened faintly as his hand dropped away and he saw Cassie there behind the counter, holding down the fort. ”Hi. We’re not in for long. Just pickin’ some more bits up. All quiet?” He’d have asked no trouble, but that would’ve been like trying to shut the stable door after some bastard had stolen the horse and kicked the shit out of the owners.

━ there is good in my heart, but these hands belong to the devil ━ HE WONDERED HOW LONG GRIEF WOULD HAUNT HIM. Ah, no, scratch that━Darcey was comfortable in it now. He lived in grief. First Lorna, then his life as he knew it, and now Mandy. Where would he be without it? Perhaps not so alone, days filled with conversations via grunts with Nicky, tracking spells that never worked, and the harsh reality that they may never bring their sister home. He wanted to stay positive, but how long would it be?
No. She’d gone months without giving up on him. Months hoping, praying for a sign, months with no word. He would never give up on his baby sister. Doubts clouded his mind until it was almost impossible to live there, but his sheer stubbornness held onto the end goal. It seemed, however, that only family would be waiting for her now. He was sure he’d caused the distance Sadie put between them now but, at the same time, he almost expected her to forgive him for it. He was grieving, weren’t he? How could she blame ‘im for that? And, if she did, well… Darcey preferred this loneliness anyway.
“Better be. I won’t be waitin’ forever for ya.” He grumbled, climbing out of the car with his own cigarette in hand and tossing it, like Nicky, onto the street before they entered. He hadn’t wanted to come, but was practically dragged by his younger brother, and Darcey could only imagine why. What, did Nicky have him on suicide watch now? As if he’d waste precious time trying to put a bull-t in his head when he could be working to find Mandy.
Trudging in after Nicky, Darcey walked with his head hanging, a dark cloud drifting in to combat Cassie’s relatively-consistent perkiness. Was he that energetic as a kid? Probably. Nah, definitely. He was always bouncing off the fucking walls.
One of Darcey’s famous grunts followed Nicky’s string, rehashing the same shit they’d had to deal with over and over. Pleasantries were exchanged with the little blonde witch, and then they were after their grimoires again. Same old.
This time, though, Cassie had something to say. While they were huddled in the back room, with Nicky looking through shit and Darcey leaning against the nearest piece of solid furniture, she came into the room looking small, practically wringing her hands like an old woman.
“Uh… there’s something I gotta tell you guys. I-I didn’t think it was important but, um, I heard you mention that some English guy took Mandy? And… a little while before she was kidnapped, I had a, uh, visit from a guy who kept me imprisoned when I was, like, dead. He’s an Original━like Original-Vampire Original, except he’s a hybrid. Anyway, he said he wanted me to do shit for him, like, he wanted a personal witch. I didn’t wanna say anything ‘cause I didn’t wanna make it about me, but…”
Everything after that was pretty much a blur. Darcey was sure he’d rounded on Cassie, infringing on her space and demanding answers about this guy’s name, where he lived, anything. It didn’t matter that she’d kept valuable fucking information from them━not right now, anyway━what mattered was finding this guy as soon as possible. Because wherever he was, Darcey was sure that’s where Mandy would be.
Pulling up outside the grand house, Darcey barely waited for the car to stop before he jumped out, racing in a fury toward the front door. His fist came up, hesitated, and then both hands were up, fingers flicking toward the sky, palms pushing at the door. “Vados.” He growled, sending the large door bursting inwards. It clambered to the floor and slid along it, and Darcey was charging inside, sure Nicky was following.
Stepping onto the door, Darcey shouted as he walked in, fists clenched at his side. “Oi! Where’s my fuckin’ sister?!”

SALVATION WITH THE REID SIBLINGS
He would never have a quiet night, would he? Perhaps he was asking for far too much by even dreaming of such a thing. His actions over the past thousand years had probably robbed him of such a chance but there was little he would change. But still, this was a bit much.
He had been about to paint, everything set out in front of him when the sound of the door being destroyed cut through his blessed silence. He felt the monster in him stir, stretching itself against the edges of his skin, ready to pounce. He would not take this intrusion lightly. That was not how he operated. He commanded respect, dammit and it would be given.
Especially in his own home.
By the time he made his way to the foyer a distinctly unpleasant voice was echoing off the walls. He made a face as he stepped past the destruction. His eyes were a lurid red color and there was a growl low in his throat. He would enjoy tearing these two limb from limb. Maybe he would take his time, enjoy it. After all, he had set out to paint in hopes of relaxing.
This would be the next best thing.
"I do hope you have a good explanation for why you think you can simply storm into my home. Destroying things at that." He walked with propose, the curve of his lips showing off his fangs. He thought of the witches stashed away in bowels of this place. Hidden by magic and knew he was dealing with one of their earthly connections. Elijah's words echoed in his ears but he refused to acknowledge them. He should have chosen those without siblings, or loved ones. Orphans. He could have become their only family in a twisted way.
He still could. Once he was finished with these two.
"I have no earthly idea what you are on about but it will be the last thing you say before I rip the tongue from your mouth."

It only ever took a single key to open a lock. An innocuous, flimsy little bit of metal slipped in, its blunt teeth catching and sending the tumblers springing open. One single witch to blow open the cell they’d been trapped in, tortured, for months. Cassie had slipped in so quiet, tripping through the explanation of what the Original had done to her, the threat that had been lurking over her – the one that she’d kept quiet about for their sake.
He would’ve kissed her for it – the first lead they’d got on any of this and one that made sense too – but Darce was already in her face, demanding answers like he wouldn’t wait for the next lock to open (the one that had held Mandy out of sight). Nicky pushed forward, his forearm barring his brother’s chest while everything they needed to know spilled out of Cassie. The bastard’s name, his location, the unspoken fact that both of them might end up like Lorna, killed trying to save the people they loved. More tragedy, heaped on top of the pile of it that already blazed in the centre of their chests, slowly scorching any ground that hope might’ve grown on.
The thank you had been shot back over his shoulder as both of them piled out, one moment of civility in a morning that was going to be anything but by the time they were done. Words stopped up in his throat then, like it was all corked, anything that might happen stoppered up behind it, ready to tear free the minute those tumblers started to fall again.
It wouldn’t have looked out of place up Hampstead way. Some ostentatious pile of brick and marble. An egotist’s dream, stacked to the rafters with his little sycophants, soon to be reduced to rubble when they had Mandy out – and there was no doubt in his mind now that she was in there somewhere. Nicky didn’t need some thin red line on a map to confirm that feeling in his chest. Mandy was close and they were getting her back now.
The car was pulled up close to the stone steps up to the door, both front doors flung open. Darcey was out first, racing for the door, he was close behind, that live wire feeling growing beneath his skin. He saw Darce’s hand go up and lifted his chin. ”Take them down,” he growled lightly. Nicky’s fingers spread in the air, like a man about to ward off a fight, or start one, as they curled into loose fists.
Darcey didn’t need his help to have the door blowing off its hinges, the battering ram of his power slammed it out of the way, sent the lump of slick wood screeching across the floor, leading the way for the brothers to step in behind. Atop the door Darcey called out, his voice carrying up the ridiculous staircase, hopefully right to the ears of the arsehole who owned the place.
Where Darcey stood coiled, Nicky stood relaxed. All the tension was inside his head, in his nerves, just waiting to explode out in a way that would take down whatever wards he’d forced his captive witches – or his tame ones, cause he couldn’t imagine Mandy ever giving in and working for him – to throw up around the place. Nicky slipped off his hat, moving it lightly from hand to hand as he heard the footsteps coming down the stairs. The man’s presence would’ve announced the arrival of their sister’s kidnapper all on its own, but he had to amp it up, yellow eyes lighting the way, that growl rolling out. Down boy.
Knowing better than to voice it aloud, Nicky glanced at Darcey and then back again, brows raised. Looking back, Nicky slipped the hat into the pocket of his jacket, shaking out his hands like he was loosening them up. Fangs didn’t impress him, neither did those sickly yellow mince pies. ”As you’ll see for yourself, Mr Mikaelson – I take you don’t believe we’re familiar enough with one another for me to call you Klaus, despite your havin’ made your acquaintance with my family – my brother is a good man. He does as I ask and so when I suggested we blow the bloody doors off of your place here, he obliged me.” Darcey would’ve done it with or without his prompting and well, he thought, glancing around the show home here, there were plenty of other things to destroy now they had stormed in.
Nimble fingers rippled in the air, his attention all on their host here and not on the bust of someone standing on a plinth at the foot of the stairs. ”Ventus,” Nicky crooned lightly. He didn’t blink as the stone head shot across the space, smashing against the opposite wall. ”Perhaps you’d like to change your opinion on that, before you do somethin’ foolish and remove our only way to communicate with you that we’d like our sister back. The witch you took from the shop on the square ... Mandy. Now, do you want to lead her up here for us – untouched, mind you ... or should I ask my brother here to go and find her. What d’ya say, Darce? Think you can find your way ‘round this place?” Blue eyes cut only briefly to his brother, then back to the man in front of them. Oh, just how long did they have before he snapped and they were forced to drive him down to that glossy floor and walk right over him like the door?

━ there is good in my heart, but these hands belong to the devil ━ DARCEY HAD NEVER SEEN A HYBRID BEFORE. In any other scenario, the vampire-mixed-with-werewolf face would’ve confused him, but because he knew what they were up against (or at least the name), he was prepared for this. Those glowing yellow eyes and the darkness behind them, the dark veins crawling along his cheekbones. Disgusting, but it made sense to Darcey. If there were to ever be two freaks of nature combined in some way, it would look like this.
This thing that had taken their sister.
Darcey stood rigid, curled forward at the broad shoulders of his otherwise lanky frame, rage rippling through every fibre of his being. He remembered in high school when someone had bothered Lorna, and it was only the second time he’d used his abilities, but they burst from him in a fit of fire. This was like that, except he’d lost his wife. All that was left was his tiny family, and this thing threatened to make it smaller.
He should’ve known they were coming. He should’ve known why they were here, but he was too arrogant to assume anyone would come after him for this. Well, the Reid boys were here to prove he wasn’t fuckin’ untouchable.
The older of the two bristled at the hybrid’s words, puffing out growls on breaths that were the closest thing to words he could possibly form. His teeth were clenched, not allowing much to get through even if he could find the words, which he wouldn’t. That was Nicky’s forte.
And it wasn’t the time to argue over his status as ‘rabid dog on a leash.’
The crashing sound only had Darcey uncurling and re-curling his fists, shifting his weight from foot to foot. He was a rabid dog, and the only reason he wasn’t attacking was because he hadn’t been given the command. If Mandy wasn’t here, then they’d never find her if Klaus’ insides were ruining the posh fuckin’ insides of his home. Darcey wasn’t thinking, though━no rational thoughts were running through his brain.
“Yeah.” Darcey’s voice was a low, rough rumble of sound. “Don’t imagine it’ll be too ‘ard. Just make sure I leave a trail be’ind. Breadcrumbs.” Again, ignoring rational thought, Darcey stomped closer to the thing that dwarfed his lifetime by thousands.
Fire burst from nowhere, lining the closest walls to the front entrance. Flames licked at the━no doubt expensive and irreplaceable━furnishings, including a painting that━with a wave of Darcey’s hand━fell to the floor, its frame splitting and spilling in pieces between him and the hybrid. “Checked ‘ere, no sign.” He hissed, keeping his eyes locked on Klaus’.
“Mandy. Now. Not askin’.”

SALVATION WITH THE REID SIBLINGS
The little one. They were here for her. That should have been obvious given that they didn't have the Irish lilt the the older witch had but Klaus knew never to make assumptions. They only cost a person in the end. He stood there, doing his best to keep his features passive as the twin monsters instead of him begged him to paint the walls with their blood. He couldn't just give himself over to them. If he were lost to instinct he might not think this through as he should.
Still, they were doing fine work to the home he had built for his family.
He did growl this time, the sound rumbling in his chest and echoing through the space as the bust that Klaus had personally taken from a medieval king was smashed to bits. All that history, needlessly thrown away.
"You will pay for that," he promised, his voice gruff and barely contained. He considered his options as one postured and the other held onto his sanity just as well as Klaus did (he could see the signs, the desire to let go and simply destroy; if this were any other moment, Klaus might appreciate that).
He could give them Mandy.
Or he could kill them.
He had never come for Mandy in the first place. He had been hoping to ply Cassie with the same promises he had given Davina but she had been a delightful find, all that untapped potential sizzling through her veins. It was obviously shared by her family members. He could practically feel the magic singing through the air. It was what had drawn him to Mandy in the first place and he would be reluctant to give that up.
He would still have the Kelly girl though.
But he never gave in. Never surrendered. That was not his style. So that left the most obvious route. He would kill them. He would destroy them and then just maybe he would lay them at Mandy's feet as proof that she answered to him now. She had no other choice. She wouldn't like that. She would rebel and there would be more fire but in the end, he would win.
Like he always did.
Klaus soon learned that Mandy was not the only one with a gift for the flame. He watched, his temper overflowing as his home, his sanctuary was set alight. All rational thought seemed to push aside and he let the monster in him come to light. He found himself toe to toe with the firebug, his equal in temper in so many ways.
"When I kill you it will be slowly and painfully and with the knowledge that your sister will never ever be free from this place," he spat, revealing that Mandy was indeed within the walls. He struck out blindly, ending to cause damage but not to kill.
Not yet, not until he lived up to his words.

Words were weapons that could wound just as much as any blade. If Mandy wasn’t trapped behind this silver spoon sucking arsehole, he’d have been happy to stand and talk through their dilemma – dissecting for others until he’d spun the Original Hybrid himself around in so many circles he ended up dumped on his backside like a toddler who’d made himself so dizzy he didn’t know which way was up. Mandy was there though. He didn’t need Niklaus Mikaelson to stop whining long enough to admit it, like Darce probably could, he could feel it there in his chest.
Dark brows furrowed, his fingers tightening on his hat as Darcey huffed and puffed beside him – the big bad wolf come to blow down the little pig’s house, all shiny with marble – and the cloud of marble chips clattered to the ground. None of them really moved though, pinned there still in their little stale mate with Klaus whining, voice as gruff as Darcey’s, but without any real sort of believable threat behind it. Nicky sniffed, glancing down at it. ”Real was it?” he asked dryly, knowing that it had been, not that the cost of it came anywhere close to his sister’s life. Maybe he’d feel a little guilt about it once they were out of there, but only for the thing, not for the monster who’d hoarded it here with probably dozens of other priceless relics.
The small sound of dismissal rolled from him as he put his hat back into place, not caring about the rudeness of the gesture – although their mum would’ve puffed about it, reminding him they hadn’t been born in a barn, even if in comparison to this place the shop was one. ”I’m sure I’ll follow the trail of destruction easy enough. Don’t be too careful with his people…” The smile that rolled in was icy in comparison to the heat Darcey instantly had rolling through the hallway. Fire didn’t care what it consumed, it just ate, especially when it was fuelled by a man’s fear and anger.
Nicky clucked his tongue at Darcey’s announcement, his lips pouting for just a moment. He stepped forward slowly, eyes narrowing as they fixed on the Hybrid. ”I do believe I just heard you threaten my brother as well as my sister. That, Mr Mikaelson, is the second most foolish thing you’ve done. Takin’ Mandy in the first place is your most, I’m sure you’ll realise that soon enough. For not doing as my brother told you … you’ll be receiving your punishment for that now.” Oh, Klaus would undoubtedly have tried to make them pay if he’d stopped spluttering over what was happening to his home before he struck out.
Moving as one, the brothers both struck back. A united front, as they had been right up until he’d left home, and left Darcey’s left flank wide open for other things to prey on. Maybe if he’d been there Lorna still would’ve been too, and Nicky carried that guilt in himself. He let it pour out with a rush of power as his voice and Darcey’s both rose. ”Phasmatos motus! An outstretched arm, fingers still fisted, then flung outwards as his power ripped the door up from the floor, past him and Darcey to smash into Niklaus. Nicky followed in its wake, his hand still hovering there, as though it was that which held Niklaus flat against the stairs. ”Phasmatos pyrox morsinus illum!” The pain spell that would have had any normal vampire shrieking as their agony exploded in their heads hollered to leave his concentration free. For Mandy.
Slow steps forward, power running through him as though he were nothing but a live wire, Nicky glanced up those stairs. No. This was a man who would’ve installed his family in the grandeur of those upper floors. He wouldn’t put a captive up there, not so close to them. Down. ”Mandy?” His voice boomed out, echoing around the space, thrown towards that door at the back. If his sister was capable of hearing them, undoubtedly she would’ve done already, but he called to her just the same. A promise they were coming, a plea to ready herself for it, because if Klaus wasn’t still down, getting them out of here would be a thousand times harder.

━ there is good in my heart, but these hands belong to the devil ━ ONLY A FUCKIN’ PSYCHOPATH COULD WHINE about his bloody decorations while their sister was locked up somewhere here. He didn’t expect anything less, but the fact that this bloke could stare at him with a straight fuckin’ face and say that was almost too much for Darcey. He wanted to kill ‘im, and he was gonna do it now.
Except he wouldn’t. That choke chain tightened with Nicky’s level words, though Darcey’s eyes didn’t leave the hybrid’s. He’d seen the man’s arm raise, but Darcey’s human speed wasn’t a match for him━he was recoiling from the blow seconds later, stumbling back with blood beginning to pool at the wound.
More than the stinging, though, Darcey felt his anger boil to unmeasurable temperatures. He thought he’d explode and rip through all of them at once, but they had a plan.
His teeth tore apart, head and arms lifting suddenly from his new position near Nicky’s side. Shouting the spell was only half the battle. “Phasmatos motus!” As the words ripped out, so did his power━it fed on his fury and, above all, his desperation. Darcey couldn’t let the same thing happen to Mandy as it did to Lorna. Though either he or Nicky would be the ones in danger if the situation was mirrored, he couldn’t help himself from spiralling into the what ifs. He’d done so for weeks while they searched, unsure if they’d find Mandy alive, knowing he’d stop at nothing to save her if they could only figure out where she’d gone.
The door came up and slammed against Klaus while the brothers worked in perfect tandem, just as they always had. He shifted forward as Nicky did, lending his power again to the second spell, knowing it would take more than one of them to restrain Klaus for as long as they needed.
Darcey didn’t move when Nicky did; he remained over Niklaus for a moment, wondering how long it would take Nicky to forgive him if he put the dog down right now. Surely it would take more than a burst of magic, but Darcey figured lobbing his head off might work. He was willing to try.
Mandy’s name tore him away. Darcey growled as he ripped his attention from the flattened hybrid and stomped down the stairs after Nicky, only a step behind him. “Mandy!” He echoed, far more forceful than his brother, and waited until he heard her response. His chest lit up with hope, his nerves alight with the knowledge that━even though they might not have a clear path out━they had found her.
Moving quicker than he perhaps ever had in his life, Darcey shoved past Nicky and only gained momentum as he went. Like a human battering ram, he rolled sideways into the door, slamming his shoulder into it. The door shifted and whined, but it took another try━his foot against the spot under the knob━to finally have it swinging open.
He stepped in, panting from his anger and the expulsion of energy, blue eyes snapping the perimeter of the room. He saw nothing until he saw Mandy. Darcey didn’t soften, charging for her next, though he gathered her in the moment he could get near enough. Puffing out a breath, he felt the weight in his chest evaporate. Fury still sizzled through his veins, but his embrace was gentle, holding Mandy as though she were a porcelain doll, and secure━like she’d slip through his fingers again if given the chance.

❝ Somewhere Over The Rainbow... Skies Are Blue❞
It had been weeks… or was it longer? Days seems to bleed into each other, and you lost all sense of time. Even then Mandy hadn’t been a happy subservient captive. Her escape attempts futile, but it didn’t stop her. Biggest problem had been that it wasn’t just the original hybrid, it was unfortunately the entire Original Family living in this huge freaking mansion… Without her magic she was defenceless… or so he liked to think. Mandy when pushed into a corner was scrappy when she wanted to be. Kicking and screaming she would not go quietly.
Over the weeks she had gotten to know her cell mate. She had been here longer and like Mandy even she wasn’t defeated. Mandy liked that about her. This particular day she was rather subdued, her mind going over options, options that she hadn’t tried yet. She spent it looking out the small, sealed window. It was a loud crash that broke her from her daydream. Standing quickly, she walked to the door pressing herself up against it, listening intently, her eyes closed hoping to enhance her other senses. Moments later her eyes flew open, her hand curling into a fist, raising it to bang loudly against the door.
Her brothers were here.
She recognised the first shout. Smiling she shouted back, ” Nicky! Im in here!” Mandy yelled her voice hoarse, lack of water. Banging on the door hard until her fists and arms hurt, but she kept banging, willing her brothers to follow the sound to her. Seconds after Nicky another voice shouted for her and relief spread across her face, ” Darcey!” She called back, ”Can you hear me? I’m in here! Darcey!” She croaked out again, her shouts followed back a cough but she didn’t stop banging against the door.
She heard the barrel of footsteps getting closer and next thing she knew there was a loud bang from the other side of the door. The door groaned, splintered from the force. Her eyes widened, reaching for Maeve, ” Get back!” She told her pulling her away from the door as it cracked open the door swinging inward, cracking off the wall next to it. Her brother stalked in; she could feel the fury coming off him in waves. She knew it wasn’t aimed at her. In seconds she stood as he got close. Her wrapped her arms around his neck, her feet off the floor and was hanging off his neck. Burying her face in his shoulder, over the moon to see him. Looking up just as Nicky came through the door. She smiled at him, a silent thank you shining in her eyes.
She knew they weren’t safe yet. They still had to get out of here, she stepped back from Darcey and looked at them both asking, ” Where’s Klaus? He has some kind of dark object; we don’t have our magic.” Mandy explained to them. There was no way she was leaving here without it.

SALVATION WITH THE REID SIBLINGS
She felt guilty in a sense because she was glad that she was not alone. If she had been, Maeve would have lost her mind by now. Instead, she had someone to talk to, someone who understood all to well the situation they were in. Add to that, Mandy refused to give in. She was fighting every step of the way and because of that, so was Maeve. She might not be as scrappy as Mandy but in her own way, she was resisting.
And she would keep on resisting.
At the first crash, Maeve shot straight up from her bed where she had been resting her eyes (conserving her strength). She looked up, her breath catching in her throat. Then she was moving with Mandy, desperate to be heard. Were they about to finally get the hell out of here? She couldn't help but grab a lamp, wishing she had her magic instead. She was adept at defending herself with her power and the fact that she was reduced to using a physical object felt demeaning. But she was not taking any chances. Even when it became clear that Mandy's brothers were here.
Just like she said they would be.
When the door burst open, she watched as the younger girl threw herself into the arms of one of them. Both had a wild appearance about them, and Maeve kept to the side, giving the siblings a respectful distance for their overdue reunion. However, her fingers remained tightly wrapped around the base of the lamp, her eyes moving from Mandy and her brother hugging to the other one. The one with the piercing blue eyes. These were dangerous men. She didn't need her magic to tell her that.
When Mandy spoke of their magic, she finally sprang to life. "It looks like an orb, a decorative thing. You wouldn't even think twice about it. But I am not leaving here without it," she said fiercely. Her magic was integral to who she was. "He kept it here for a time but when your sister came...well, she's a bit destructive..." There was a hint of a smile, because she had come to appreciate that about Mandy. "So he took it." She thought for a moment and then looked directly at the blued eyed one. "Is he dead?"

Niklaus Mikaelson would pay for spilling his brother’s blood as surely as he would for taking Mandy. If he’d harmed her …
The thought had pain burning as brightly in Nicky’s chest as the flames chewing away at the mansion did. He didn’t have time to stop and reflect every mark he put on any of them back on Klaus now, or to let Darcey really have his head. That time would come, when Mandy was safe and out of the fight. He’d bring the fucking building down on him.
Nicky felt the ripple of power emerge from Darcey to join his own, a immovable force to keep the cockroach pinned. The pressure of it hardened around his lungs, as he imagined it did around Niklaus’, but it didn’t stop him moving towards the stairs, dragging in enough breath to holler his sister’s name as he rattled down those stairs with Darcey in his wake. Like he had upstairs, Darce would watch his back now, in case Klaus recovered enough to come for them again. His voice boomed out, close enough that he would’ve crabbed about being deafened in the tight space at any other time. Now it was just a fucking relief as he heard Mandy’s voice come rolling back to them.
His brother was past him in an instant, leaving Nicky playing catch up now. He had his hand out, ready to take the door down with whatever power wasn’t still straining to keep Klaus pinned upstairs, but Darcey was slamming into it, once, twice, splintering the lock and opening it with that kick. Relief hit him like that door had hit the hybrid when Darcey charged towards Mandy and pulled her into a hug. She was up, she was mobile, she was safe. And she wasn’t alone. Meeting Mandy’s eye, he smiled, something far softer in the blue eyes that had been cold only a moment before. ”There’s our girl,” he murmured softly. ”You alright? Did he hurt ya?” There wasn’t much he could do for her for the minute if there was, not with that threat looming up the top of those steps.
Resisting looking over his shoulder to see if he was coming, Nicky lifted his chin, his smile flaring for a moment. ”Upstairs and not a problem for now. You’re safe,,alright...” Reassurance wouldn’t help much when Mandy had been left weak as a kitten. That explained why she hadn’t continued to fight the same way after Klaus had got her here. A man like him would think nothing of putting his hands on a helpless woman, or even one who’d hopefully left him writhing in pain for a time at least. Dark brows drew together as he looked past Mandy to the woman beyond. As fair as Mandy and still brandishing a lamp. Nicky stepped towards her slowly, eyes remaining locked on hers as he slowly took the lamp from her with one hand, the other gently closed around her wrist, drawing it down. ”I’ve not seen anythin’ like it yet, but he had a whole bunch of pretty little things up there. We’ll find it on the way out.” The corners of his lips curled up in response to hers. ”Gave him hell, did she?” That was just like Mandy, and God he was proud of her for not going easy. Nicky shook his head as he set the lamp down. ”Unfortunately not. Just incapacitated. We’ll make sure he stays that way ‘til we get both of you out.” Even if it took blowing their way straight out through the man.
Stepping back, Nicky used his grip on her wrist to draw her towards the door. He was almost tilting his head, urging Darcey on ahead. ”Mand, you go on up with Darce, we’ll be right behind ya. Darce, you keep an eye out for the orb, eh?” He’d stay behind if he had to, searching every damn room in the place til he got his hands on what Klaus had taken. The man’s run as his sister’s captor was over.

━ there is good in my heart, but these hands belong to the devil ━ DARCEY COULD ADMIT TO STRUGGLING, TO wondering about the future, but he’d never given up hope. And, at times, it’d felt useless━like all his forced optimism was for nothing. But this━holding his baby sister in his arms again━was worth every second. Mandy was safe now, and she wasn’t leaving his sight for at least a decade after this. At least.
Mandy slipped back and Darcey parted to give her a little breathing room, though it went against every fibre of his being. Finally, he noticed the other woman in the room, and his eyes widened slightly. It didn’t matter that she was looking at Nicky━she was perhaps the most beautiful woman he’d seen in a long time. Blonde, like Lorna, with those feminine features that had an edge of hardness to them━camouflaged strength under the surface.
Not that it was the time, but Darcey didn’t have a moment to introduce himself before they started discussing some magic-holding orb. His chest puffed at the question of Klaus━though it wasn’t directed at him━and Darcey wished they could say he was dead.
At least Nicky could calm the ladies down while Darcey continued to buzz and bristle. He was always better at this, the talking, and cleaning up the fallout. He could gently hold the blonde’s hand and soothe her while Darcey kept a protective arm around Mandy’s shoulders, unwilling to release her just yet. Likely not until they got home. “You’ve been ‘ere longer?” Darcey finally asked, brows furrowing at the gorgeous stranger. Internally, he likened her to a caged dove, kept behind bars, locked in a prison that would never appreciate her beauty. God, he’d turned soft again for the right woman, ‘adn’t he?
He didn’t even mind that Nicky would lead her out━his priority was still Mandy, and if he could personally make sure she got out of there safely, then he would be satisfied. Darcey nodded sharply at his brother’s instruction, then offered a softer, more polite nod at the woman before leading Mandy out by his arm.
“Don’t leave my side.” Darcey instructed as they walked back up the stairs, his voice lowered. “Car’s out front. We’ll walk around ‘im slow.” Most thoughts about taking off Klaus’ head had vanished in favour of keeping his focus on Mandy. He’d still like to do it━and say it was for her safety━but he didn’t want to risk anything right now. Not when they were so close to the finish line.
Klaus remained under the door, likely still affected by the spell cast to inflict him with never-ending mental anguish. Darcey carefully guided Mandy around the door and outside, glancing back over his shoulder as they descended the steps, finally making their way across the road to the car.

SALVATION WITH THE REID SIBLINGS
Not dead. She supposed it would never be that easy would it? A creature like that, as old as he was, as powerful as he was couldn't just die easy. She was willing to bet it would take a hefty amount of magic to do him in for good. She was willing to do a little research in that regard. After all, she owed Klaus one at this point.
Her attention was pulled away to look at Darcey. "At least a week, maybe more. I've...lost track of time." She almost didn't want to know how much of her life Klaus had stolen from her. It could have been worse, she knew that but still, she felt her anger building. She wondered if her magic could calm her. If she had it back, it may soothe her battered nerves. Logically, she knew that magic should never truly be used in anger but at the moment, it was hard for her brain to process such an idea.
She watched as the older brother began to lead Mandy out of there. "You both should be proud of your sister. She had faith in you both from the beginning," she explained. That was all she had to say because now was not the time for any of it. They needed to get the hell out of there.
She sprung into action. She closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and tried to hone in on how her magic felt. It had been a part of her for so long she almost took it for granted. But now that it was gone, she sought out the feeling and used that as a homing beacon. She knew that Nicholas was nearby. She could practically feel his magic humming through his skin. He had been through one hell of a fight upstairs. He probably still had enough adrenaline coursing through him to keep the both of them going.
"I know this sounds silly but I can feel it, my magic," she explained as she began to move cautiously through the warzone he and his brother had created. She just kept reaching out for that feeling, hoping it was in turn reaching out for her. She stopped short when she saw the prone figure of her captor, instinctively curling in closer to Nicholas. A hand reached out to close around his arm before she realized what she was doing. They said Klaus was down for the count for now. She had to make that count.
When she finally saw the orb, resting like a decoration on the mantle she nearly shouted for joy. "Of course he would just leave it out in the open. Arrogant bastard." She rushed forward, closing her hands around it. She could feel her magic practically bouncing at its boundaries but didn't have any idea how to get it out. That was a problem for down the road. "Can we just get the hell out of here, please?" She didn't even wait for his answer, she was heading for the nearest exit.

Once they were out and away from this prison, he’d pull Mandy into a hug just as big as the one Darcey given her, the relief at seeing her home letting the last pieces of the hard shell that’d formed around him when they’d found her gone finally fall away. They weren’t there yet though. This wasn’t just walking back out the way they’d come with Mandy in tow, Darce putting in one last kick to the son of a bitch as they went – he knew his brother too well to believe that there wasn’t one final act of retribution on the cards for this.
Nicky offered Mandy’s fellow prisoner a reassuring nod as he set the lamp aside (tempted to smash the damn thing the way they had Klaus’ treasures upstairs). ”I’d say it’s been far longer than that. We’ve been trying to find Mandy for weeks. I take it he had her here the whole time.” Which meant that the woman had been here far longer, probably losing track of those endless days with a little help from whoever aided Klaus in keeping the two of them locked away down here – the Original hybrid himself had lost whatever magic he’d had the minute he’d first become what he was according to all those venomous little whispers that emerged about the family.
Darce would get Mandy out safe, even if the cockroach was already crawling out from under his door. His trust in his brother to take care of those he loved had always been complete, which had made it all the harder to accept that Darce hadn’t been able to do that for Lorna. If the same had happened to Mandy it wouldn’t just be cracks to mend, Darcey would’ve been in pieces, and Nicky was sure he wouldn’t have found a way to pull any of them together again.
Sliding his hand up from her wrist to her elbow, Nicky tried to gentle his touch with her. The two of them had gone through enough down here, more than he imagined he’d been told thus far. He dropped his head, close to the blonde hair that haloed around the witch, pride shining in the smile that tugged at his lips. ”We’ve always been proud of her. She fought when that bastard took her, I knew she’d keep fightin’ ‘til we got here. I can only apologise for it takin’ so long, for you bein’ stuck here with that.” The smile flattened as he lifted his chin towards the stairs Darcey and Mandy were disappearing up.
His touch slowly slipped away from her, not wanting to be a distraction as the woman seemed to steady herself, those summer sky eyes that had still been lit with a fire Klaus hadn’t been able to extinguish slipping shut – Mandy wasn’t the only one he was proud of here. Nicky watched, trailing her just a step behind as she began to move cautiously through the house, up the stairs they’d rushed down, towards the crushed hybrid bug. ”It’s not silly,” he assured her, his voice a low rumble. ”It’s a part of you, whether it’s in ya or not.”
It wasn’t weakness that had her reaching for him as Niklaus came in sight, the door still holding him down as he suffered in the mental prison they’d left him in. Nicky lifted his other hand, touching her arm lightly in reassurance. ”He can’t hurt ya now, love,” he promised. Still, he let a whisper of his power slip out, wrapping it around what still wreathed the man, tightening it viciously enough that he hoped it choked the bastard.
Staring down at Niklaus, his expression had gone hard, but it cracked the moment Maeve rushed away from him. Just as she’d said, there was an orb on the mantle – luckily unshattered in the mess he and Darcey had created up here. ”That’s gonna be his downfall,” Nicky said tightly. Klaus hadn’t expected anybody to walk right in here and swan out again with his prizes in tow. Leaving the man behind him, Nicky rushed towards her with quick footsteps. His hand settled at the small of her back, guiding her towards the door, through the sooty remains of Niklaus’ little palace-turned-prison. ”Let’s go. Darce'll have the car runnin’. We’ll get you somewhere safe and we’ll figure this out, I promise.” Nicky rushed down the stairs at the front of the house, slamming the heavy door behind him, one extra barrier between them and the hybrid. He opened the back of the car, urging her in ahead of him before he joined her. The gravel spat out behind them, the car racing away from the nightmare that’d consumed their lives for long, agonising weeks.
