– I freed myself from words never said –
Finding a house that fit what they were looking for was definitely an experience, one that Jed enjoyed quite a bit, actually. He liked visiting different homes and seeing what each one had to offer. Their search lasted for a couple of weeks before they eventually found the one. It was perfect in every sense and it was close to the Saltzman residence, so if he ever feels homesick, he could always stop by and spend some time with his family and if his family ever wanted to visit, they could easily stop by. Jed was pretty happy about it and as the move-in day approached slowly but surely, he knew that he was gonna have to accept the fact that he was going to see his family cry about him leaving the house. He wasn't looking forward to that bit because seeing them cry always managed to make his tears come to the surface and he was worried that they'd all cry together and only stop once their tear ducts had no more tears to spill out.
Though as much as he wanted to delay the day that he'd have to pack his things and leave, there was no stopping time. Soon enough, it was time for him to start packing up his things and for that, he invited Ben over to help him. He had quite a lot of things because his family liked spoiling him. His dad often took him shopping to make sure that he had everything he could ever needed. You name it, clothes, decorations, and so on. He had it all. He was really grateful for it, actually. Thanks to his parents, his bedroom actually looked lived in. He felt like he was a part of the Saltzman family. With a soft sigh, Jed sat down at the edge of the bed, looking around him as a sense of nostalgia washed over him. He could remember the first time he slept on this bed. This room carried a lot of memories, some were ones he was really fond of, and others he wished he could forget. Those were the nights he spent crying because he missed Trey terribly. He never missed his father, though. He was an angry man who turned Jed's life into a living hell.
Jed blinked out of his thoughts before they could take him down a rabbit hole and instead laid back on the bed, eyes focused on the ceiling that he spent most nights looking at, lost in his own thoughts or just thinking about Ben or his pack. He was going to miss his bed, he was going to miss a lot of things, but most importantly, he was going to miss how busy the Saltzman residence was.
You could immediately just tell that it was morning without even looking at the window or the time, because you could hear the hustle and bustle of his family downstairs, preparing to go to school, college, or work. They'd stop momentarily to greet him whenever he'd eventually go down there, all dressed and ready for school, too. It was a lively house, but not in a bad way. It didn't make him feel like he wasn't involved in what was going on. Actually, despite how busy it was in there, everyone was involved in the conversations, everyone was acknowledged. Jed hoped that one day, when he has his own family living under his roof, that he'll make them feel the same way, too.
Jed had told everyone of his plans to move out with Ben and he could immediately just taste the sadness in the air but along with that sadness, was happiness. They were happy for him, but they were just sad to see him go. Speaking of sadness, he could still feel that emotion lingering in the air and he had a feeling if he went downstairs, he'd see his mom with tears streaming down her face. It made him release a soft sigh, his arms aching to wrap around his parents to reassure them that he was always going to be there, even if he's not actually in the same house as them.
Jed snapped out of his thoughts when he heard the doorbell ring downstairs. He pushed himself up, ready to go answer the door but he heard his mom say that she's got the door. Jed instead moved to grab the boxes, placing them on the bed one by one. Each one was labelled so that it was easy where to put everything. The box marked as 'CLOTHES' was already filled to the half, so he only has the other half left to go before he's done with that box. Also, let it be known that the boxes are big, so for the box to be filled to the half with clothes definitely means that he's got a lot of clothes. Most of them were flannel shirts, though. But, hey, before you judge, they're all different clothes, so at least he's got a variety, right?
Right.
Meanwhile, downstairs, tear-stricken Jenna moved to the door to answer it. She made sure to wipe her tears and fix her appearance as much as possible before opening the door because she didn't want to announce it to the whole world that she was sad to see her little boy move out. Jenna's lips stretched into a genuine smile when her eyes relaxed on none other than Ben. "Hey, sweetheart. Come in, come in." Jenna stepped aside to let the other come in. Once he was in, she pulled him in for a quick hug, wrapping her arms around him. She took a moment where she just closed her eyes and held Ben close, saddened by the fact that she won't see him regularly anymore. Sure, she'll see him at school, but it won't be the same as cooking for him or seeing him first thing in the morning along with Jed, too. "How are you doing, sweetheart?" Jenna questioned, her tone soft as always. She stepped back from the hug and looked at Ben, her smile still evident on her lips. "Oh, my sweet boy..." Jenna's tears resurfaced again as she sniffled, her hand resting on Ben's bicep. "I'm gonna miss having you here. I really enjoyed cooking for you." Jenna wasn't sure where all of this sadness was coming from, she felt so overdramatic especially since they weren't going far, but... They were her boys and she really did enjoy having them under the same roof as her.

Today was the day and Ben was both excited and nervous. It had surprised him when Jed had suggested that they move in together since Ben had thought about the same thing but had worried that Jed would think it was too soon. He was definitely right when he’d said that dying for him had eliminated all boundaries, though, and Ben couldn’t wait until they were settled in their own place. It had taken them a while to find somewhere that was perfect for them but the house they’d found ticked all of the boxes. It wasn’t too far from Jed’s family and there was more than enough space for the two of them and a family when they were ready to take that step and it would give them the privacy that Jed would need during the full moons. It was exactly what they had been looking for and Ben was so glad that they had found the place. He had known that money wouldn’t be an issue since he had plenty of savings but there were still things that they would no doubt want to do to make the house their own as well. He had been on his own for such a long time and he had grown used to spending nights with Jed when he could but now they were going to have the chance to wake up next to each other every morning and the truth was that there wasn’t anything that Ben wanted more right now. They had done as they’d said and he’d started spending more nights at Jed’s since their trip to New Orleans while Jed had spent more nights with him at the school as well so Ben was certain that it was going to work out well for both of them but now they weren’t just talking about it, it was actually happening and he just hoped that things were going well for Jed and his family. It had been easy enough for Ben to pack up his things, it hadn’t taken him very long at all and he’d already loaded them into the car. He had been living in the dorms since arriving in Mystic Falls and during that time he hadn’t ended up accumulating too much, mostly just clothes and a few things that he had been given by Jed and their friends. There were also a few trinkets he had always kept with him such as a photo of the unit he had fought with during the war and some keepsakes from other memories he’d made along the way but that was about it. There were other things that had been in storage for quite some time that Ben knew he would have to retrieve sooner or later but for now he was more focused on Jed. He had so much more to pack up and so much more that he was leaving behind. There was a part of Ben that felt bad about the fact that he was taking Jed away from his family but moving out was something that Jed had been thinking about anyway. Ben hadn’t lived with anyone since Ashur had died so he didn’t really remember much about what it was like but everything with Jed was so new and exciting anyway and Ben knew that this wasn’t going to be any different. It was going to be a little strange not being around so many people since he’d grown used to being around the other students at the Salvatore School and being around Jed’s family while they were at his place but now it was going to be just the two of them and Ben hoped that Jed wasn’t having second thoughts now that it was finally happening. Truth be told Ben wasn’t sure what he would find when he got to the Saltzman house and he used the drive across town to try and prepare himself for it. As it was he was a little nervous as he made his way up the front path and knocked on the door. He didn’t doubt that they would know that it was him given what was going on that day but it didn’t feel right to just walk into the house in that moment. Instead he waited for the door to open and when it did it was Jenna that he saw standing before him. Straight away Ben could see that she had been crying but the smile on her face was genuine and he found himself smiling at her in return as he stepped inside. “Thanks Jenna,” he said, slightly surprised when she pulled him in for a hug but he found himself hugging her back tightly nonetheless. Jed’s family had welcomed him into their ranks from the very first day they got together and words would never explain how grateful Ben was to them for that. He had lived for such a long time before Ric and Jenna were even born but the truth was that they felt like parents to him too. His own mom had died when he was a child and he’d had Ashur’s dad as a father figure while he was growing up but he hadn’t felt the unconditional love and acceptance of a parent since his mom died until now. Needless to say Ben hated seeing Jenna upset and he rubbed her back gently in what he hoped would be a soothing gesture. “I’m doing okay, I’m really excited about this actually,” he admitted, that sense of excitement shining through in his voice and in the smile that had crossed his face. “How are you doing, are you okay?” he asked, his eyes full of concern as she took a step back and looked at him. Seeing the tears form in Jenna’s eyes, this time it was Ben who reached for her to pull her into a hug. “You’ll still see us both all the time, I promise,” he assured her, his expression softening as he took a half step back and let his eyes meet hers. “We’ll still come over for family dinners and you’ll always be welcome at our place any time,” he promised, knowing that Jed felt the same. “I give you my word that I’ll take care of him, I won’t let anything bad happen to him,” he added. Now the bracelet he always wore stopped the monsters coming after him Jed wasn’t in any danger any longer but he still felt the need to say those words out loud. “Thank you so much for welcoming me into your family the way you have, it means more to me than you’ll ever know.” For such a long time he hadn’t had anywhere he felt like he really fit in but now he did and he knew he never wanted that to change. “I’d better go see how he’s doing,” Ben said, offering Jenna one more smile before Ric joined them and patted him on the shoulder, telling him to go on up. Ben could tell that Ric wanted to check on his wife and he couldn’t blame him so he nodded and headed upstairs. Once there he knocked gently on the door before opening it. “Hey, how are you doing in here?” he asked as he stepped into the room and let his hand rest lightly against Jed’s cheek. “I saw your mom downstairs and she’s pretty upset. Are you doing okay?” he asked gently. The boxes around them were a good sign that Jed still wanted to do this but now it was becoming real he wanted to make sure that Jed was certain. JED SALTZMAN

– I freed myself from words never said –
Jed could already tell that his mom was still pretty sad, he could hear her occasional sniffs and those quiet sobs she let out when she thought that no one was around to hear her but with his supernatural hearing, he was able to pick up on every little sound. Including the sound of the door opening and her greeting Ben. The sound of his voice already placed a gentle smile on Jed's lips. As he continued to listen, he felt his heart tighten at the sound of his mom crying again. At that moment, he decided it would be best for him to stop listening and let them talk without him listening to every single bit. It'd be rude of him to do so.
Meanwhile, downstairs, Jenna was trying her absolute hardest to stop her tears from falling but it seemed like no matter how hard she tried, they were still gonna stream down her cheeks. "I'm really happy to hear that, Ben." Jenna really was happy to hear that Ben was excited about them moving into their own place. She was happy for them too, albeit a bit emotional about it because she had gotten so used to Jed living with them. He grew up too fast, but she was really happy for him that he had someone special in his life. He deserved it. He deserved to be happy. So did Ben. He had suffered enough and Jenna would never put herself in between them and their happiness, even if it meant getting used to the house being a little quieter than usual. "I'm okay. I know I look like a mess right now, but I'm okay. I'm really happy for you boys." Jenna's voice was soft as she spoke, her hand lifting so that she could use the back of it to wipe away her tears, trying to fix her appearance as much as possible. She didn't want to cause the boys any unnecessary pain by seeing her cry like this. "You're right. You're totally right. See, I know this, and I know that we can visit you boys when you have free time, but I just... can't help but feel a little emotional." Jenna said with a soft chuckle falling from her lips not long after. "Thank you, Ben. I trust you and I'm very sure that Jed trusts you, too. You've quickly become a part of this family and I'm very happy about that. Ever since you and Jed got together, Jed has changed a lot. For the better. He's happier now and I know it's because of the bond you two have." Jenna had no doubt in her mind that Ben would protect Jed and vice versa.
"Oh, sweetheart, you don't have to thank me. I'm happy to have you as a member of our family." Jenna said with a gentle smile tugging at the corners of her lips. "Alright. Let me know if you boys need anything, okay?' With a sniff, Jenna wiped her tears and moved closer to Alaric, wrapping her arm around him. "I said I wouldn't cry but I think I failed pretty badly on that." Jenna said with a chuckle falling from her lips as she wiped her tears away once more.
Meanwhile, upstairs, Jed was filling out the box labeled 'CLOTHES'. He was neatly folding his clothes with the technique that his mom had taught him only to stop when he heard a knock on the door. He turned to face Ben, his smile immediately becoming prominent. "Hey. Pretty good. Making solid progress. Just kinda wish I was a shapeshifter so I could turn into an octopus or something, at least then I'd be able to fill all these boxes. Or a spider, even though I hate those." Jed said with a smile tugging at the corner of his lips. He made a pretty good progress but he was nowhere near done. But he knew that with Ben's help, they'd be able to finish in an hour or so.
"Yeah, she's been – emotional about the move ever since I told her." Jed said with a soft sigh falling from his lips. "I'm doing okay. It's weird that I'm moving out of this room, but I'm excited for this new chapter of my life." Jed's voice was soft as he spoke, his hand lifting to settle on Ben's hand. "Have you finished packing up your things back at the school?" Jed questioned in a rather curious tone.
"I gotta say though, I have a lot of things in here. I never really thought I had that much stuff until now. So it might take us some time to pack everything up." Jed revealed with a sheepish smile forming on his lips not long after.
'What are your thoughts on cacti? I bought this little fella over a month ago because I thought I had found my true calling. Aka becoming a plant-dad. But uh, after killing four plants by mistake, I decided to just stick with this little prickly fella. Should we bring him home?" Jed gestured over to the cactus sitting on the window sill in a cute plant pot with extra cute polka dots on it. He most definitely bought it for the cute pot, but the cactus itself was pretty cute. Tiny, though.

Ben really hadn’t known what he would find when he got to Jed’s house. It was a little bittersweet for him to leave the dorms at the Salvatore School after living there for the last few months but it was so different for Jed. He was leaving his family behind and even though they weren’t moving that far away and they would still see his family at school, it wasn’t going to be quite the same as Jed being able to see them every day when he got home. Ben had been spending more time at Jed’s place since their trip to New Orleans and his family hadn’t seemed to mind having him stay there more often at all. In fact it had been quite nice being a part of a family and it had made Ben realise that he wanted to have that with Jed one day but for now he knew that he would be happy just being able to wake up next to his boyfriend every morning. Moving out was a big step and it was one that Ben knew they were ready for as a couple but there was a part of him that had wondered whether Jed would end up having second thoughts when it came to actually moving out. He meant it when he said that he was looking forward to them actually moving in together. Ben had been thinking about them getting a place together before Jed had suggested it and ever since then he had been pretty much counting down the days. It had taken them a while to find the perfect place but now they had and Ben couldn’t wait for them to spend their first night there. Seeing Jenna cry was still enough to make his heart ache, though, and Ben wished that he could do something to stop her tears but he knew that he couldn’t. “I know you are but Jed’s still your son, I know it can’t be easy to see him move out,” he said gently. He had never been through this with his own mom, she had died while he was still a child and after that he had moved in with Ashur and his dad. It had then become just the two of them when Ashur’s dad had died so it had never been something that he had ever thought about too much but now his heart really did go out to Jenna and Ric. As Jenna spoke again, Ben shook his head. “Don’t worry about wondering when we have some free time, you’re welcome to come over at any time,” he assured her. They had done such a great job of taking care of Jed and they had welcomed Ben into their family as well so he knew that neither of them would want them to feel like they couldn’t visit whenever they wanted to. When she said she trusted him and Jed did too, Ben couldn’t deny that he was glad. It would have been easy for his curse to stop them from doing that but they had never doubted him and that was something that he was never going to take for granted. As Jenna said that he’d become a part of the family and she was happy about that, Ben felt a smile touch his lips. “I am too. I’ve never had a family like this before and I’m so grateful to you all,” he admitted. As Jenna spoke again, Ben’s smile widened. “I’d do anything to make him happy,” he nodded. “He’s done the same for me, it feels like we were meant to find each other,” he added. Ben really did believe that, he had spent such a long time alone and he had never even thought about starting something with anyone until Jed came along. “I can’t explain it but it’s like my heart knew it was home the moment I saw him.” From the very first look they’d shared he had felt the connection and it had only intensified as they got to know each other. Ben’s expression softened as Jenna said that he didn’t need to thank her and that she was happy to have him as a member of her family. Ben hadn’t felt like he’d belonged anywhere for such a long time and it would have been easy for them to push him away especially after what his father had done to Josie and Hope and what had happened to Jed but they hadn’t done. They had never turned their backs on him and he knew that he was going to have to find a way to repay that unwavering faith in him one day. Ben really wasn’t sure what to say so instead he gave Jenna another quick hug before offering Ric a smile as he joined them. “We will, thanks,” Ben nodded before heading upstairs to see Jed. As Jenna wrapped her arm around him, Ric wrapped both his arms around his wife and kissed the top of her head gently. “I think that’s to be expected, it feels like it feels like only yesterday Jed moved in with us but he’s ready so we need to be too,” he said gently even though he wasn’t holding it together much better than Jenna was right now. “We’ll still see them plenty, I just hope Josie and Lizzie don’t go getting the same idea anytime soon,” he admitted, knowing that one child moving out was bad enough. It didn’t take him long to reach Jed’s room considering he knew the way well enough by now and Ben couldn’t stop a smile from forming on his face as his gaze came to rest on his boyfriend. “Definitely not, wolves are much hotter,” he chuckled as Jed said he wished he was a shapeshifter so he could turn into an octopus or spider so he could fill the boxes. It looked like Jed had already made pretty good progress so far and Ben was proud of him for that. He knew that with Jed’s werewolf hearing he would have been able to pick up on how upset his mom was and probably the rest of the family as well so it couldn’t have been easy for him to keep going with all of that going on around him. “I get it, you’re her little boy. We’ll probably both be the same when our own kids move out one day,” he said, running his thumb lightly over his boyfriend’s cheek. There wasn’t a doubt in Ben’s mind that he wanted all of that with Jed one day but the truth was that going through what Jenna and Ric were going through now really wasn’t something that he was looking forward to. “You are?” he asked, his eyes searching Jed’s as he said he was excited for this new chapter of his life. “I wasn’t sure if you might be having second thoughts,” he admitted. Jed had so much more that he was going to be leaving behind than Ben did and he knew that it really couldn’t be easy for him so he would have understood. “All of my things are packed and already in the car. I don’t have much so there’s still plenty of room and I can help you with yours,” he nodded. “That’s fine, we’ve got plenty of time,” he chuckled before leaning forward and pressing his lips against Jed’s. “What can I do to help?” he asked, not sure where Jed wanted him to start. Looking over at the cactus sitting on the window sill, Ben couldn’t help but laugh as Jed said he’d accidentally killed four plants. “Remind me not to buy you any plants,” he teased although he knew that he probably had less experience with them than Jed did so he wouldn’t be any better. “Home, I like that,” he admitted, his expression softening as Jed called their new place home. It really did sound good and just hearing those words from Jed was enough to make Ben’s heart leap. “Let’s bring him with us, he can even have pride of place on one of the window sill in the living room or our bedroom if you like.”JED SALTZMAN

– I freed myself from words never said –
Jenna nodded her head slowly, her hand lifting to wipe her tears away from her face as she released a soft sigh. "Yeah, he grew up so quickly, I barely even felt the time move." Jenna's soft voice soon made itself known again as a fond smile formed on her lips, probably because she was recalling the way young Jed looked. So much smaller, his eyes a mixture of sadness and distrust. Jenna never held it against him when he told her to go away whenever she'd try to get him to eat something, she knew after the stressful night that he's had, it would take time for him again to trust others. Especially since the betrayal came from his own father, but as Jed warmed up to them, she realized that Jed was just a scared little boy aching to be shown what its like to be loved without wanting anything in return. Jed's father had shown him that it was encouraged to display abusive behavior but as Jed blossomed into his own person, he quickly realized that his father's view of the world was twisted and filled with so much hatred.
"Thank you, sweetheart." Jenna said with a soft smile beginning to tug at her lips. Jenna's expression softened as she listened to Ben. She really was happy for him that he finally had a family of his own. "I know, sweetheart." Jenna assured him with a soft smile when Ben told her that he'd do anything to make him happy. She had no doubt that Jed would do the exact same thing, too. They were perfect for each other. "I do have the same feeling. You two found each other at the right time and helped each other a lot." Jenna said with a quick nod of her head following. It truly felt like fate even though some people choose not to believe in such a thing because it sounded like something out of a fairytale book that has a happy ending written in advance.
But Jenna really does think that it was fate that the boys had found each other. It was a thought that already made her lips stretch into a soft smile. Her eyes softened as she listened to Ben, nodding her head in an understanding manner. She really was happy that they had found each other.
Jenna released a soft 'aww' when Ben hugged her. She returned the hug, patting the other on his back a few times before she drew back, letting Ben head upstairs to help Jed pack. In the meantime, she stayed downstairs with Ric. She nodded her head as she listened to her husband. "You're crying too, aren't you?" Jenna asked with a soft chuckle falling from her lips not long after as she wiped her tears away for the umpteenth time. "I think they have a bit longer to go before they move out too. In the meantime, I think we really need a distraction before we fully breakdown." Jenna said as she moved toward the kitchen to see if she could find a bottle of wine to drink.
Jed let out a chuckle at Ben's words. "You know, I'd have to agree with you if my options are to become either slime-y or creepy looking." He agreed with a half-smile tugging at the corner of his lips.
"Oh, who says we're allowing them to move out?" Jed asked in feigned seriousness before he felt a small smile form on his lips. "But I get it. What she's feeling right now is one hundred percent valid." Jed added a moment later. He understood why she was feeling emotional about him moving out. "And like you said, I'll get to experience exactly what she's feeling right now when we have kids." Jed would probably cry enough tears to flood the house, honestly.
"Yeah, I am." Jed confirmed with a small smile. "Don't worry, I'd tell you if I was having second thoughts. But I'm not, though. I'm ready for this." Jed assured him with a quick nod of his head following. "Okay, perfect." He returned the kiss with one of his own before he leaned back to take a moment to remember what he needed help with. "Uhhh, you can get started on emptying the drawers in here. I honestly put stuff in there without paying much attention, so it's probably a bit crowded in there." He gestured toward the two night stands next to his bed. One on the left side of the bed and one on the right side.
Jed let out a laugh at Ben's words. "Yeah, that's probably for the best. I can't be known as the plant killer in Mystic Falls. Not a very good reputation." Jed said with a soft chuckle falling from his lips not long after.
"Yeah." Jed said with a gentle smile tugging at the corner of his lips. "Home." He repeated as he returned to his task of folding clothes so they could get a move on. "Oh, you hear that, little guy? You're coming with us." His eyes relaxed on the cactus perched on the window sill. "So cute. It might be a little concussed 'cause I kinda dropped it when I first got it and stepped on it with my shoe but he's fine. We'll take care of him." Jed said with a beaming smile resting on his lips.
Jed rolled his shoulders back and continued on with folding his clothes, already feeling his back protest a bit from being hunched over the bed but it was a little price to pay. "Man, why do I have so many flannels?" Jed questioned with a chuckle falling from his lips, the pile of flannels growing taller and taller in the box. Eventually, he was done filling out the box and finally, he could move to packing up his shoes since it would take significantly less time.

“I know how difficult that must be but you’re his mom, he’s always going to need you,” Ben said gently. He knew just how grateful Jed was to them for taking him in and they had done more than that, they had adopted him officially into their family. Ben wasn’t sure whether Jed had told them just how much that had meant to him but he could see the way his boyfriend’s face lit up every time he talked about his family and that wasn’t going to change now that he was moving out. There was a part of Ben that felt bad about the idea of taking Jed away from his family but it had been Jed’s idea in the first place and Ben knew him all too well, even if he’d said no to them moving in together Jed had been thinking about finding a place of his own anyway so Ben knew that chances were Jed would have done it regardless. Living with the guy he loved had always seemed like something that Ben would never be able to do but now the bracelet the girls had made for him was keeping the monsters at bay he was finally free to live his life and he knew that he wanted to do that with Jed for as long as he could. Ben had meant it when he’d said that Jenna was welcome to come over at any time and the same was true for the rest of the family. They might be moving into their own place today but they weren’t going too far and the Saltzmans had been so great to both of them so he knew that they would never turn them away. Ben hadn’t thought that he would end up finding a family when he made his way to Mystic Falls but the day he and Jed got together he had been welcomed into the family and that meant the world to Ben after being on his own for such a long time. Being with Jed really had changed everything for him and Ben knew that he would do everything he could in order to make Jed happy and as Jenna said that she knew he would, Ben felt a smile touch his lips. “We did,” he agreed as Jenna said that they found each other at the right time. “I think we needed each other more than we realised at the time. I can’t imagine my life without him now,” he admitted gently. He had been in love once before but never like this and Ben knew that he was going to cherish every moment of the time that he was able to spend with Jed. Heading upstairs so that he could check on Jed, that left Ric and Jenna alone downstairs. “I might be. This is much more difficult than I thought it would be,” Ric admitted as he ran his hand down his wife’s arm and gave her hand a gentle squeeze. “I hope so. Having Jed move out is bad enough, I’m not ready for the girls to do the same,” he sighed. Ric really hadn’t known how it would end up going when he’d brought Jed home at first, the boy had been so closed off from all of them but other time he had opened up and now he was always going to be a part of their family. It was going to be strange not seeing him at home every day but they would still see him at school and they could still visit so Ric knew that he just had to believe that it would be fine. “Definitely. You won’t hear any arguments from me” he assured Jenna as she headed into the kitchen. “Definitely. I love you just the way you are,” Ben chuckled. He could definitely understand the desire since packing was never fun when you had as many belongings as Jed did but Ben just couldn’t imagine him turning into either of those things so he was glad it wasn’t an option. As Jed asked who said they were going to let their own kids move out in the future, Ben felt a smile touch his lips. “Good point, they’ll never be allowed to leave,” he grinned. “It’s definitely valid, I just wish there was a way to spare her from the pain,” he admitted. He was starting to see that it was a part of being a parent, though, as all kids were sure to move out sooner or later. In Jed’s case it was perhaps a little sooner than they had expected but Ben knew that things would settle down in time and they would get used to it. “We’ll definitely end up going through this as well,” he nodded. “I have to admit I’m not really looking forward to this part,” he added. Seeing what Jenna was going through had made his heart ache and it had been clear that Ric was upset too. Ben knew that it was only natural to feel that way when kids moved out but he hoped they wouldn’t have to go through that for a while. Ben had seen the way Jed’s eyes had lit up when he’d said that he was excited about the next chapter of his life but there had still been a part of Ben that had worried that seeing Jenna the way she was right now might have made Jed change his mind. “I know you would tell me but in the back of my mind I was worried you might not want to say something that might disappoint me,” Ben admitted, knowing that it would be better to be honest with Jed rather than keep it to himself. “I’m so glad you’re ready for this though, I am too,” he added, a smile touching his lips as Jed kissed him back. It would have been easy to lose himself in the kiss and forget everything else that was going on but Ben knew that they couldn’t afford to do that right now not when they had so much work still to do. “I can do that,” Ben nodded as Jed told him to get started with emptying the night stands, making sure to grab an empty box on the way so he could get everything packed away. As Jed said he couldn’t become known as the plant killer of Mystic Falls, Ben couldn’t help but laugh. “We won’t let that happen, don’t worry,” he chuckled. “We’ll have you stick to things that can’t be killed.”The house they had found was their home now, or at least it would be once they had moved in, but Ben couldn’t deny that it still felt good hearing Jed call it that. Ben had given up on having any of this such a long time ago but now everything was working out in a way he had never thought that it could and he knew that he wanted to keep it that way. “We can’t leave your first child behind,” Ben grinned before his expression softened as Jed spoke again. “He’ll be fine. He’s resilient, just like you.”Packing everything from the first nightstand didn’t take too long and Ben soon made his way to the second. Jed really had made quite a bit of progress already so Ben knew that he had been doing this for a while but with any luck with the two of them working together it wouldn’t take too long to get the rest done. Packing was a necessary evil and Ben kept on reminding himself that it wouldn’t be too much longer before they would be unpacking everything once more and settling into their new home. As Jed asked why he had so many flannels, Ben couldn’t help but laugh. “You know what you like and you stick to it, I can’t really say I blame you for that,” he chuckled. “Just remember that this part will be over before you know it and then we’ll be in our new home.”JED SALTZMAN

– I freed myself from words never said –
Jenna was going to miss having Jed with her under the same roof, but she knew that with him moving into his own place with Ben, he was growing and blossoming into his own person and she really was happy for him. She didn't doubt that with time, the pain that she was experiencing was going to lessen but she knew that she wasn't going to miss him any less. But, knowing that she can visit definitely reassured her and helped ease her worries quite a significant amount. "Thank you, sweetheart." Jenna was pretty happy that she wasn't seen as a dramatic person and instead, was treated like her feelings were valid which she appreciated a lot, actually. Still, she was going to try her best not to cry again and make the boys sad, especially since she knew Jed could pick up easily on the sound of her crying. "I'm incredibly happy for you two." Jenna said with a gentle smile tugging at the corner of her lips.
It seemed like fate was standing behind the two of them, guiding them closer and closer to each other and Jenna had high hopes for the couple. She had a feeling that with time, she might actually get an invitation to their engagement party, or their wedding. Just the thought alone was putting a smile on Jenna's lips. Jenna watched with a hint of softness as Ben moved his way upstairs to where Jed was, leaving Jenna and Alaric next to each other. Jenna's eyes found Alaric's once again, her expression softening. "I know." Jenna agreed, her words followed by an emotional sniff as she wiped her tears away.
"Out of the two girls, I think Josie is more likely to move out." Jenna was aware of how much Hope cared for Josie and vice versa. They had a bright future ahead of them and she would be more than happy to support the girls with the decisions that they make, but she hoped that she'll, at least, be given some time to process having Jed move out before Josie leaves too, or else she might just wind up weeping for days. A soft chuckle fell from Jenna's lips when Alaric agreed with her on her decision to drink something to distract themselves with before they have a full-on breakdown. "Okay, let's see what we can drink." And with that, Jenna moved to the kitchen to see what they had in their drinks cabinet that could distract them for a little bit before they have an actual breakdown.
"Oh, thank you. I'll have you know that I love you the way you are, too." Jed replied back with a half-smile tugging at the corner of his lips. He couldn't help the chuckle that left his lips when Ben agreed with him that their kids won't be moving out. "See? Pain avoided. We'll just keep them in the house forever." Jed said with a quick shrug of his shoulders following, sounding serious at first but the smile that formed on his lips not long after broke his character. "I know. Trust me, I wish there was a way to spare them from having to go through this, but..." Jed trailed off with a soft sigh falling from his lips not long after which showcased there was no easy way to do this. They just need to go through with it and hopefully, it'll hurt less with time. "Yeah, all birds have to leave their nest eventually, as much as we don't want 'em to." Jed agreed with a nod of his head following, knowing that it would be impossible to guarantee that they won't go through a similar pain, too. They won't stay as kids forever, after all.
"I totally get that. But I promise, I'm not having any second thoughts." Jed assured him with a gentle smile tugging at the corners of his lips. "I've been looking forward to this day ever since we found the house, honestly." They had many specifications in mind for the house and so, he worried they wouldn't be able to find anything that matches until they found a house that fit what they were looking for and it was really close to the Saltzman residence. It was the best in both worlds, really. It was a little too easy for Jed to almost get lost in the kiss but he had to remind himself that there were things still left undone and if they wanna move out by the end of today, then they definitely need to get back to what they were doing. With Ben helping him with the drawers, Jed felt like he could focus on what he was doing a lot better. "Okay, good." Jed said with a soft chuckle falling from his lips when Ben made it clear that he won't be known as the plant killer. "Thank you." Maybe, just maybe, he'll get better at remembering to feed the plants a little better next time around.
"You're absolutely right. What kind of parent would I be if I left him behind?" A soft chuckle fell from Jed's lips as he continued carefully folding his clothes, knowing he'll definitely appreciate his hard-work later on when he has less wrinkly clothes to worry about. Jed's lips stretched into a grin when Ben told him that the cactus was strong like him. It definitely was since it survived being stepped on by Jed. He was definitely relieved about that. "You know what, you're right. It's basically my trademark now." Jed said with a soft chuckle falling from his lips as he finally moved on from the flannels and started carefully folding his trousers. Thankfully, he didn't have as many.
"I honestly can't wait." Moving into their new home was definitely going to be amazing. Jed had been looking forward to this day ever since they found their new home and now that he was packing his things, he was definitely quite excited.
Jed finally finished packing his clothes and moved on to another part of his room that he needed to pack and it thankfully didn't take a long time, either. Just about ten to fifteen minutes. "Do you think maybe we could throw a little party at the new house? Invite everyone and celebrate?" Jed asked while sealing the boxes shut, his eyes lifting as they settled on Ben once again.

Ben couldn’t even begin to imagine what Jenna was going through right now, when he was growing up parents had never worried about their children leaving home and his own mom had died when he was still quite young. The world had changed so much since then and Jenna was clearly upset but Ben knew that was only because she was going to miss having Jed living under the same roof as her and he had a feeling that Ric would as well. They had taken such good care of Jed ever since they took him in and Ben knew that he would never be able to thank them enough for that. They had given Jed a second chance at having a family and they had given Ben the same thing. He knew that he and Jed were both really lucky in that respect and there was no way that they were going to forget about the Saltzmans now that they were getting their own place. “You don’t need to thank me, it’s the truth,” Ben assured her gently. “Jed loves you, we both do,” he added. Jed’s family really had become family to Ben as well and that wasn’t going to change just because they were moving in together. “Thank you. I never thought we’d get to do this,” he admitted. For a long time Ben had worried that they wouldn’t be able to find a way to break the curse but they had done and now he and Jed were free to live their lives together and Ben couldn’t wait. Soon enough Ric and Jenna were left alone and Ric’s expression softened as Jenna sniffed and wiped her tears away. “We just have to remember that he’ll be fine, he and Ben will look after each other,” Ric said gently. He and Jenna were always going to be there for the two of them but this was a big step forward and Ric honestly hoped that it would work out for them. It had been clear to him right from the start just how much Jed and Ben loved each other but living together wasn’t something to be taken lightly and he knew that they had thought about it a lot and taken their time to find the right place for them. They were ready for this and that meant that he and Jenna had to be ready too. “I think you’re right, she and Hope are just like Jed and Ben. They have their whole lives ahead of them but I hope they won’t start thinking about moving out just yet,” he nodded. Having one kid fly the nest was bad enough right now, Ric knew that they could use a gap before the next one decided to do the same. “A woman after my own heart,” Ric grinned as he followed Jenna into the kitchen. “Aren’t you a charmer?” Ben asked, an amused smile touching his lips as he leaned forward and kissed Jed gently. He hadn’t said that he had done in order to make Jed say that in return but Ben couldn’t deny that he liked hearing it. He had been on his own for such a long time and to begin with he had been scared of opening his heart up only to end up losing that person but he had quickly realised that he would regret it if he didn’t take a chance on the connection that he felt with Jed. As it turned out it was the best thing that he had ever done and now Ben was looking forward to starting the next chapter of their lives together. “They may not like it but I’m down for that plan,” Ben chuckled. They hadn’t talked about kids before but Ben knew that he would love to start a family of his own with Jed one day so he didn’t even have to think twice about it. As Jed spoke again before trailing off, Ben nodded. “But there isn’t so all we can do is reassure them that it will be okay and make sure they know that they’re always welcome,” he said, hoping that he had managed to offer Jenna that reassurance not too long ago. “That’s a good point. This is your turn but you’re ready so they will be too,” he added, knowing that no matter what Jenna and Ric wouldn’t try to change Jed’s mind. They weren’t those kinds of people. “I’m so glad, I’m really looking forward to this too,” Ben admitted. “I felt I should ask but to be honest I don’t know what I would have done if you’d said you’d changed your mind,” he added. It had taken them a while to find a place that was perfect for them and the moment they had seen it Ben had known that that was where he wanted to build a life with Jed but he really would have tried to understand if Jed had said that he wasn’t quite ready after all. They weren’t moving too far away so they could be contacted if anything happened and Jed’s family would be on hand if they needed them as well. It really was the best of both worlds and Ben was looking forward to them making the house their home. Ben could have easily let himself get distracted by the feeling of Jed’s lips against his own but he knew that he had to be on his best behaviour, at least for now, so he made himself pull away. “No problem,” Ben chuckled as Jed thanked him, finishing what he was doing before moving on to the next job. “Not a very good one,” Ben chuckled as Jed asked what kind of a parent he would be if he left the cactus behind. “That’s not your style though, you don’t leave anyone behind,” he added with a grin. That was definitely one of the things he loved most about Jed and Ben knew that it wasn’t going to change. “You’re right about that, nothing can keep you down,” he said, sending a smile in his boyfriend’s direction as he carried on boxing up Jed’s belongings. As Jed said he couldn’t wait to be in their new home, Ben’s smile softened. “Neither can I. I never thought I’d get to do this with anyone but this is just another way in which you’ve made my life better,” he said, his eyes full of love as he looked over at Jed. No one had ever taken a chance on him the way that Jed had and even though it had meant that he’d been on his own for such a long time the truth was that Ben was glad he’d waited for Jed. Closing the top of the box he’d been filling up, Ben looked over at Jed as he spoke again. “I don’t see why not, I think that would be nice,” he admitted with a nod. “It’ll give them all the chance to see the house and I think us moving in together deserves a celebration,” he added with a smile. – I freed myself from words never said –
Jenna felt a gentle smile form on her lips as she listened to Ben, nodding her head slowly. "I love you both, too." Jenna meant every word, she truly loved both of them and she was very happy for them even though she was still a little sad that Jed was moving out.
She was just happy that they both had each other and that they were starting a new chapter of their lives. Jenna had been really worried about Jed in the past, she was worried that he was going to continue shutting all of them out, but looking at him now, Jenna really had nothing to worry about. "I'm really happy for you boys, you both really deserve this." They both had suffered enough and it was about time for them to finally be happy. Jenna watched with a gentle smile on her lips as Ben headed on upstairs before her attention drifted back to her husband, her smile still present on her lips."That's all that matters." Jenna's voice soon made itself known again as she spoke. "God, I hope not. I need time to heal." Jenna said with a brief chuckle falling from her lips. "But if they do decide to do this as well, I have no choice but to support them, too." Jenna added a moment later.
Josie's happiness mattered to her the most and if her happiness counted on her moving into her own place with Hope, then so be it. She'll support her regardless of her own feelings because, in the end, it was more about her kids' happiness more than anything else. A chuckle fell from Jenna's lips at Ric's words as she led them to the kitchen to get them that much-needed drink to help them push through today without breaking down – again.
Jed's lips stretched into a grin at Ben's words before he shrugged his shoulders in a manner that feigned cockiness as if he'd always known that he was such a charmer. When Ben leaned in to a press a kiss against his lips, he was all too happy to return the kiss, enjoying the brush of their lips while it lasted. Ben's next words were enough to make a chuckle fall from his lips. "We'll just keep them in the house forever." There was a half-smile on his lips that stayed after his laughter had faded. "Exactly. That's all we can do, really." Jed agreed, knowing there was no easy way to do this, but he hoped that with time, it would hurt them less.
Plus, they would be more than welcome to visit at any time. No invitation needed prior. "That's true." He knew that despite the pain they were going through, they wouldn't stand in his way, they just weren't those types of parents. They were the type of parents to take good care of you, provide for you, and care for you when you're sick (even though hypothetically, Jed can't exactly get sick, but you get the point, right?), all in all, they were great parents and Jed was really happy that he was part of that family. "This would have been very awkward if I had changed my mind, huh?" Jed let out a brief chuckle. But, thankfully, that wasn't something they needed to worry about because Jed wasn't planning on changing his mind. He was really glad to hear that Ben was looking forward to their move, too. Now with both of them working on packing Jed's belongings, he was starting to feel like they were making real progress now.
Jed couldn't help the chuckle that escaped his lips as he nodded his head in agreement with Ben. It would definitely make him a bad parent. When Ben said he wasn't the type to leave anyone behind, his attention drifted to Ben, his expression morphing into something tender as a gentle smile began tugging at the corners of his lips as his hands momentarily halted in the midst of their task. "I'm glad you think so. He answered, his voice laced with the same tenderness.
"You're absolutely right about that." Jed said with a grin tugging at his lips when Ben said that nothing can keep him down. To say that Jed was excited about the move would be an understatement, so when he heard that Ben shared the same sentiment, his expression softened. "I'm really glad you get to experience that now." Jed said with a gentle smile forming on his lips. "And I'm even more glad that I get to experience this with you." Jed added a moment later. It made the whole experience a lot more special to Jed. "You've made my life better, too." Jed added, the same gentle smile still visible on his lips.
"Yeah, exactly. It would be nice. Alright then, we'll throw something for our friends so we can show 'em the place as well." Jed said with a grin tugging at the corners of his lips when Ben agreed with his suggestion to throw a little party at their new house.
Jed moved toward the desk to pack all the books and notebooks carefully. One by one, he placed them inside the box until he was done and only then did he tape the box shut so they don't spill out and also made sure to write on the label what was inside the box. "I don't wanna jinx it, but I think we're all done." Jed double-checked just to be sure before he picked up the boxes and placed them altogether to make sure that he had packed everything, but with his clothes, shoes, drawers emptied, and books packed, he pretty much didn't have anything else left. His clothes probably took the longest for him to pack but it was all done. "Yup. Only the little guy left." Jed gestured toward the cactus. "See, that didn't take long. I think. I kinda don't remember when I started packing." Jed said with a brief chuckle falling from his lips.
Jed made his bed one final time to leave his room looking tidy and turned his attention to Ben. "All done." Jed said with a smile on his lips before he took the time to look around him, the room looking less lived-in now. He was definitely going to miss this room and the memories that it carried but he was excited and ready for the new chapter of his life. "I can get two of the boxes, you can get the other two, if you'd like?"

As Jenna said that she loved them both too, Ben felt a smile touch his lips. He knew it might sound a bit strange to say that he loved Jed’s family but it really was the truth. They had welcomed him into their family with open arms and he knew that he was never going to be able to thank them enough for that. They had given him a chance just as much as Jed had done and Ben knew that things would have turned out very differently if they hadn’t done. Instead of trying to stop him and Jed seeing each other even after everything that had happened they had continued to support them and by doing that they had given his relationship with Jed the chance that it had needed to grow. Without that chance Ben knew that he and Jed might not be moving in together now and that was something that he didn’t even want to think about. “Thank you, I hope Jed’s as excited right now as I am,” Ben admitted. He knew that this had to be much more difficult for Jed than it was for him considering Jed was the one who was leaving his family behind but at the same time moving out had been his idea in the first place so Ben hoped that it would go just fine. He could see that both Jenna and Ric were upset but they would both be fine and they would still get to see them all the time anyway so Ben knew that it wasn’t going to change things too much in that respect. Once they were alone, Ric nodded as Jenna said that they would support the girls if they decided to move out as well. “Of course we will but let’s hope they give us some time,” he said gently, wrapping his arms around his wife and hugging her tightly before they moved into the kitchen together. Ben had never known that it was possible for someone to have the effect on him that Jed did but the truth was that now he had found it he didn’t want to give it up. There was still a lot that they had to figure out but even if Jed decided that he only wanted to live a mortal lifetime then Ben knew that they would make it a good one. Kissing Jed was so natural to Ben at this point and he had to stop himself from getting lost in the kiss because he knew that if they did that then they would never get Jed’s packing finished. “It may not go down too well but I like that idea,” Ben chuckled. “I know it won’t be for a while but you’re going to make an amazing dad when the time comes.” There was a lot they would need to do before that like getting through college but Jed was a natural when it came to being an Alpha and Ben didn’t doubt that he would be the same when it came to being a dad too. “It is and we will. They’ll get through this,” he nodded, knowing that in time it would get better. Ben knew that Jed’s parents would support them no matter how upset they might be right now and that really was a relief. Ben wasn’t used to having people around that he cared about and whenever something happened he worried that they would turn their backs on him but none of them had and Ben knew that he was going to have to get used to that now. As Jed said it would have been awkward if he’d changed his mind, Ben couldn’t help but laugh. “It probably would have been but I would have understood,” he chuckled. Jed was leaving behind his life here and even though he would always be a part of the family it wouldn’t be the same as living under the same roof as them. “We’ve made a lot of memories here and in your dorm at the school,” he added. The first night they’d slept in the same bed had been in this room and it was a little strange knowing that they wouldn’t be doing that again but more than anything Ben was looking forward to them having their own place. “I do, it’s not in your nature to leave anyone behind,” Ben nodded. He knew that it went beyond the Alpha instincts, it was just who Jed was. He always looked out for those around him even if he didn’t know them and Ben had a feeling that wasn’t going to change. “I know. You’re a fighter,” he said, a smile touching his lips as he looked over at his boyfriend. He had always admired that in Jed and he still did to this day. “I’m glad that you get to experience this as well. You deserve it after everything you’ve been through,” he said gently, his expression softening as Jed said he was even more glad that he got to experience it with him. “I am too, I can’t imagine going this with anyone else,” he admitted. No one else had ever made him feel this way so Ben was glad that they’d found each other in the end. “Perfect. It’ll be great,” Ben nodded as Jed said that they would throw something for their friends at the house as well. Ben had never really thought too much about it but now that Jed had put the idea out there he was looking forward to it. They had been through so much with Jed’s family and their friends and it only felt right that they should be able to celebrate this with them now when things were finally going their way for once. They still had the threat of his father looming over them but Ben knew that they would deal with him when they had to. Moving around the room packing up what was left, Ben looked around them as Jed said he thought that they were all done. “I think you might be right,” he nodded. The room looked pretty empty now without all of Jed’s belongings making it look lived in but soon enough they would be in their new place and able to make that their own and Ben really couldn’t wait. “It doesn’t feel like it took long at all,” he agreed, reaching for the cactus which was the last thing to pack. There was still a bit of room inside the box that Ben had been packing so he placed the cactus inside, making sure that there were other things around it to ensure that it didn’t end up moving around too much and the pot didn’t get broken in the move. Watching as Jed made the bed one last time, when he was done Ben made his way over and came to a stop behind Jed before wrapping his arms around him. “It’s time to start our next chapter,” he said, a smile touching his lips as he leaned forward and kissed Jed’s neck gently. It still felt a little surreal that they were actually doing this but Ben didn’t doubt that it would sink in when they were at their place and they’d unpacked. “Sure, I’ve got these two,” he nodded, pressing a kiss to his boyfriend’s shoulder before picking up the two boxes. “Are you ready to go?”JED SALTZMAN

– I freed myself from words never said –
Jenna's lips stretched into a gentle smile, knowing all too well that Jed was pretty excited, seeing as how he'd barely come out of his room since he started working on packing his things, not wanting to lose his little productive streak. While Jenna would have loved to see him and have a cup of tea with him while he takes a rest from packing, she knew that he was just too excited to think of anything else. "Oh, he is." Jenna said with a chuckle falling from her lips not long after, knowing all too well that it was the truth. Soon enough, Ben was heading on upstairs to help Jed with the packing process, leaving Jenna and Alaric to their own devices. Jenna nodded her head, knowing all too well they would instantly support Josie if she ever decided to move out with Hope. But in the meantime, they will use this time to heal.
"We're taking over-protective to the next level." Jed said with a chuckle falling from his lips not long after. Truth be told, if his kids ever desired to move out with their partner or on their own, Jed would support them wholeheartedly. He knew all too well what it's like to have an unsupportive father and he knew he was going to do everything in his might not to become a carbon copy of his father. On the positive side, with how his father had treated him in the past, now he knows how to not treat his future kids. They will definitely thank him for this. Instead, he'll treat him like how Jenna and Alaric had treated him, with nothing but kindness and patience, even when he threw the biggest fits. Jed's attention drifted back to Ben when he told him that he'd make a good father, his expression softened as he processed his words. "So will you." Jed replied a moment later with a gentle smile forming on his lips. Jed had no doubt in his mind that his parents would get through his move. It will take time for them to get used to the empty room and all, but they'll move on. Especially if he makes them feel like he'd never moved at all by visiting them frequently and by inviting them to visit, too. Either way, he was going to make sure that his absence wasn't felt too severely.
"I know you would have." Jed said with a chuckle following. He nodded his head at Ben's next words, his grin morphing into a smile instead as he looked around him. "We have, haven't we? Hopefully, we'll continue making those in our new home." Jed cherished those memories more than anything else in the world. They meant the world to him. He was going to miss his room as well as the dorm, but he was also excited for the next chapter of his life, so if it meant doing a few sacrifices to get to experience that kind of life with Ben, so be it. "Thank you." Jed replied with a gentle smile forming on his lips when Ben told him that it wasn't his nature to leave anyone behind. He'd done it once and he'd rather never do it again. Ever. Leaving Trey behind made him feel a great amount of pain for years to come, his head filled with hundreds of 'what if's until the moment where he'd feel like he'd wind up with a headache if he didn't stop. With time, that pain lessened and he stopped thinking about it as much and with Ben in his life, that pain was pretty much gone. Though, deep down, he can't help but hope that Trey was safe and sound with a pack that would take good care of him and not make him feel like a liability. He hoped that he was as happy as Jed was.
"So are you, Ben." Jed replied with a gentle smile on his lips when Ben called him a fighter. He admired that about Ben (well, he admired a lot of things about Ben), not to mention that he was brave, too. He just hoped that Ben had a different father, someone who could see just how great Ben actually was. "Me too." Jed really was glad that he could experience moving in with his significant other for the first time and he was pretty damn glad that it was Ben. "Thank you." Jed replied when Ben told him that he deserved it after everything that he'd been through. Honestly, he was just really happy that they could do this. "Me neither." Just Ben. Nobody else. He didn't even want to think about doing this with anyone else. Ben was it for him.
Jed nodded his head in agreement, unable to deny that he was pretty excited for the party they were gonna throw. Jed might even try his hand at cooking something for the squad to celebrate. He was already thinking about decorations before he blinked out of his thoughts to focus on the present because he can't throw a party at the house if they don't actually leave the Saltzman residence. So, Jed returned to what he was doing before he actually realized that he was pretty much done. He took a quick look around the room one last time to make sure that he had everything (and to be honest, he could always come back if he did forget something, they don't live that far) and let out a sigh of relief, looking pretty content. "Right? I guess time moves fast when you're excited about something." Jed said with a gentle smile forming on his lips. Now with the cactus boxed, they were done.
Jed took the time to tidy up his bed one last time and once he was done, he felt Ben's arms wrap around him from behind which immediately placed a smile on his lips as he leaned back into Ben's embrace. Jed placed his hands on Ben's arms, his eyes fluttering shut for a moment as he felt Ben's lips on his neck, the gesture spreading warmth throughout his chest. "Finally," Jed said with the same smile still locked on his lips. It was surreal to think about it and he knew it would feel even weirder once they actually enter the house and spend their first night there. "Okay, let's do this." Jed's smile only widened at the kiss that Ben left behind on his shoulder. He watched Ben pick up two boxes, his eyes momentarily relaxing on Ben's arms before he blinked and snapped out of his little staring moment and grabbed his own two boxes. "I'm ready." Jed said, sending Ben a smile before he started making his way out of the room, carefully making his way downstairs. Well, he was carrying his clothes and shoes, they wouldn't necessary break if he lost his grip, but it was better to be safe than sorry, right? He would rather not re-fold everything and pack it all over again. Once he was downstairs, Jenna placed down her drink and made her way over. "Oh, are you guys done already?" She sounded sad, mainly because she still hadn't mentally prepared herself to see Jed leave.
And when she took a look at the boxes, her eyes filled with tears in record-breaking time. "Mom," Jed called out softly with a hint of a whine in his tone because he didn't want to see her cry. "Don't cry, please. You'll make me cry too and if I start, I'm gonna outcry you." Jed managed to coax a wet laugh out of Jenna when he said that as she lifted her hand to wipe away her tears. "I'm not crying, I'm not." But with her trying to reassure Jed that she wasn't crying, her tears began to fall even harder and it made Jed say a soft oh no before he gently placed the boxes down as he stepped forward to embrace Jenna in a tight hug. "Oh, my sweet boy. It's going to feel so weird without you." Jenna managed to say through her tears before she pulled away from the hug, determined to not keep crying. "Don't you dare skip any meals, okay? Both of you." She pointed a warning finger at both Ben and Jed. "And don't eat junk food instead of nutritional meals just because it's easy to have those instead, okay?" She continued her warnings which only made Jed laugh and nod his head.
"Oh, I'm gonna miss you boys." And sure enough, Jenna was carrying again as she opened her arms to receive a hug from both boys and her husband, too. "I'm gonna miss you guys, too." Jed said as he stepped into the hug.

Ben had been thinking about getting a place with Jed for a while before Jed had suggested it but the truth was that he had felt sure that Jed would think it was too soon. They had been together for less than a year but they had already been through more together during that time than most did in a lifetime. Ben knew that he wanted to build a life with Jed and in the back of his mind the thought that Jed was still mortal still lingered but that was Jed’s decision and Ben knew that he would support him no matter what. Ben knew that Jed was it for him so no matter what their future looked like he knew that he wanted to make the most of it and that started today. They had been spending a lot more nights together since going to New Orleans, Jed had stayed in Ben’s dorm with him some nights and others Ben had stayed with Jed at the Saltzman house. They were happy doing that but they had both been looking forward to getting a place of their own and now it was happening so Ben was beyond excited to say the least. “Perhaps but that might not be such a bad thing,” Ben chuckled. They both knew just how dangerous the world could be so he knew that it was only natural that they would want to protect their kids when the time came. They hadn’t talked about having kids before but now it was clear that they were on the same page and Ben was glad about that. He had lived for such a long time but being in a relationship like this was still so new to him and Ben knew that he wanted to enjoy every moment. These were all new memories that he was getting the chance to make with Jed and he was doing his best to make the most of every one. They’d had their ups and downs, that much was true, but they had made it through everything that had come their way so far and he knew that they would continue to do so. “I hope so,” Ben admitted when Jed said that he would make a good dad too. Ben was still getting used to having people around who cared about him and he would be the first to admit that he didn’t know much about being a dad. Things were very different to the way they were when he was growing up so he knew that he wouldn’t be able to raise his own kids the way that Ashur’s dad had raised him after his mom had died but Ben knew that he and Jed would figure it out. “We’ll do a much better job than our biological fathers did anyway.” Ben refused to call the angel his dad because he hadn’t earned that title, Ashur’s father had been more of a dad to him and since arriving in Mystic Falls Ric and Jenna had stepped into the role of parents to an extent so they at least had some good role models to learn from. “Luckily for me you’re not the kind of guy who changes his mind too often,” Ben said, a smile touching his lips as he looked over at Jed. He really would have understood if Jed had wanted to change his mind about leaving his family but that hadn’t happened and Ben really was glad about that. As Jed said he hoped they would continue making memories in their new home, Ben nodded. “We definitely will. We’ve only just started, there’s so many more memories we can make.” That was something that Ben was certain about. They had their whole lives ahead of them and even though it could be scary when things changed, this time Ben knew that it was going to be a good thing. This was the chance for them to start over together and Ben was looking forward to everything else that they would be able to do once they were in their own place too. “It’s the truth. I know you feel bad about Trey but you didn’t have a choice back then and you’ve changed so much since then,” he said gently. Jed had told him how bad he felt about leaving Trey behind but they were just kids at the time and Jed had just killed his father so Ben knew that it was different. This Jed, his Jed wasn’t the kind of guy to leave anyone behind and Ben knew that he would remind Jed of that as often as he needed to. “We’ve both had no choice but to be fighters,” Ben said, his expression softening as he looked over at Jed. They’d both had to learn to fight in order to survive and there were going to be times now when they still had to do that but for now at least things had calmed down and Ben knew that he wanted to enjoy that while it lasted. Hearing Jed say he was glad they were doing this as well was enough to bring a smile to Ben’s lips and his expression was gentle as he looked over at Jed. “You don’t need to thank me. You never should have had to go through anything that you did but this is your chance to have the kind of life you should have had all along and I’ll do everything I can to make sure you know just how much you’re loved every day.” Jed hadn’t known unconditional love while he was growing up but that was exactly what Ben felt for him and he knew that he would never tire in showing him that. As Jed said he couldn’t imagine doing this with anyone else either, Ben’s smile widened. “This is the first day of the rest of our lives and I wouldn’t want this with anyone else. You’re it for me,” he said gently. He had said those words before and he meant them, he knew that he had found something special with Jed and Ben knew that he would hold onto it for as long as he could. There was so much they would be able to do once they got to their new place and now that Jed had suggested it Ben was looking forward to throwing a party for the people they cared about. It would be such a good way to let all of them see the house and Ben knew that they both wanted to share it with the people who mattered most to them. Finally they had finished packing everything and Ben nodded as Jed said that time moved fast when you were excited about something. “Definitely. I never thought I’d get to have a life like this but I’m glad it’s with you,” he admitted. It had never been on the cards before thanks to his curse but Jed had never given up on him and Ben knew that he was never going to give up on Jed either. Moving so he was standing behind Jed, Ben wrapped his arms around him and let his chin rest against Jed’s shoulder for a moment as Jed’s hands rested on his arms. “If we’ve missed anything we can always come back for it,” he said before nodding as Jed said they should do this. Picking up the two boxes, the way Jed seemed to get distracted didn’t go unnoticed and Ben couldn’t help but laugh. “See something you like?” he teased, his expression amused as he looked over at his boyfriend. It wasn’t long before Jed was ready as well and Ben followed him slowly down the stairs. Ben could see the way that Jenna’s eyes filled with tears at the sight of the boxes and his expression softened. He had hoped that it would have sunk in a little bit but that didn’t seem to be the case and from the way Jed called her mom he could tell that Jed didn’t want to see her upset either. Setting his own boxes down as Jed stepped forward and pulled Jenna into a hug, all Ben could do was watch the exchange between the two. He could see from the look on Ric’s face that he was upset too but he seemed to be doing better at holding it together for the time being at least. “We won’t, we promise,” Ben assured her with a smile as she told them not to skip any meals or eat junk food all the time. This time as Jenna opened her arms for a hug Ben could see that she meant him and Ric too and they both stepped forward and joined the hug. Ben had never known what it was like to have a family like this before but now he knew that there wasn’t a feeling like it in the world and it made him more excited than ever for what the future was going to hold. – I freed myself from words never said –
Jed chuckled because of Ben's words. "For us, maybe." He added with a grin still locked on his lips long after his laughter had died down. They both didn't have the best example with biological fathers, but there's a saying that you learn from your parents' mistakes or something like that and he can't help but feel like that's true because now, he knows what not to do with his own kids in the future. He nodded his head in agreement with Ben's words when he said that they will do a much better job than their biological fathers. Oh, he had no doubt in his mind about that. So far, they were completely different from their biological fathers and the sick and twisted view they had of them.
Ben's father viewed Ben as a failure, he hated him with so much ferocity despite barely spending any time with him. If he had spent enough time with him, he'd find that Ben was an amazing guy with a pure heart. He cared about everyone, whether they were a friend or not, it showed when he refused to stay at the school at first because of his curse before Jed persisted and managed to convince him to give the school a shot. Meanwhile, his own biological father had raised him to be a vicious person, picking on the weak and flaunting his strength and influence without actually carrying about anyone in his pack. Jed believed that his father had never cared about anyone other than his wife. With his death, something in him snapped and was unleashed with full force on everyone around him, including Jed. His father saw him as weak, just another extra mouth to feed that provided nothing in return. "I know we will." There was so much certainty in his voice when he spoke because that's exactly what he believed.
Jed had been excited about packing his things and moving out to their new home ever since they had found their perfect home. The thought of him changing his mind never even crossed his mind before and while he knew he'd miss his parents and siblings a lot, he knew that with their move, it would be like the official start of a new chapter in his life and he was more than excited for it. There were so many things they'd be able to do now that they live under the same roof and he was definitely looking forward to that. "Exactly. So I'm not gonna change my mind about this." Jed said with a smile tugging at the corners of his lips as he spoke. "That's the part I'm most excited about." Jed confessed with the same softness latching onto the tone of his voice. They were definitely going to make a lot of memories with one another and he absolutely cannot wait for that. Jed's eyes traveled to rest on Ben as he listened to him, his lips stretching into a gentle smile.
For the longest time, he'd carried the guilt of leaving Trey behind, but with time, the guilt lessened and he found himself slowly but surely forgiving himself because he was just a kid back then, one who had just done the unthinkable. Most people would never commit such an unforgiving act, especially to their own parent but Jed's story was a bit different and back then, taking his father's life seemed to be the only way. "I've come a long way, but I couldn't have done it without everyone's help, really." Jed said with a gentle smile locked on his lips. "Having you in my life has helped a lot, too." Jed added a moment later because he wanted Ben to know that his presence had influenced him to continue to be better.
Jed knew that Ben was right about that. They both grew up too fast and found themselves only met with the choice of becoming a fighter in order to survive which was a cruel thing to put them through, but they had no choice but to push through the unfairness and survive. "I appreciate that, Ben. More than you know." Jed said with a gentle smile tugging at the corners of his lips. "You know, the same applies to you. You shouldn't have suffered so much at the hands of your father. You deserve to be happy and I'll easily spend the rest of my life showing you how much I love you." Jed's voice was soft as he spoke, his eyes relaxing on Ben once again. "And you're it for me." Jed added a moment later with the same smile still locked on his lips. He can't even imagine himself doing this with someone else. Ben was it for him.
Jed's expression softened as he listened to Ben. He was really glad that he could be the one to show Ben that kind of new life and he was even more glad that he could experience all of this with Ben. "Yup. That's exactly why I'm not too worried." If he ends up missing something, he can always come back for it. Knowing his mom, she'd probably notice it first and put it somewhere obvious for him to see once he's back home. He got distracted from his thoughts when his eyes relaxed on Ben's arms and upon realizing that Ben had noticed where his eyes had gone, he let out a sheepish chuckle. "Maybe I do." He replied with a teasing smile tugging at the edges of his lips. He just can't help himself.
He put his distractions aside and headed downstairs where his mom eventually broke down in tears again which only tugged at Jed's heart strings. His attention drifted to his dad to see how he was doing only to find that he looked sad too, but it also looked like he was trying to hold himself together. When Jenna pulled all of them into a hug, he was all too happy to wrap his arms around all of them. "I love you guys." Jed said, his voice carrying the same softness to it. "Thank you, for everything. This isn't goodbye, though. I'll come by and visit. I promise." Jed promised as he pulled away from the hug.
"Take care, okay? If you need anything, I'm only a phone call away." Jed looked between his parents with the same smile still on his lips. "We should probably go while the sun's still out. Makes the whole moving process a bit easier." Jed took a small step back, the same smile still locked on his lips as he bent down to pick up the boxes again. "Bye, dad." Jed's eyes relaxed on his dad first before moving to his mom. "Bye, mom." And with that, he took another step back and turned his attention to Ben. "Okay, let's go." Jed jostled the boxes to re-adjust his grip before he began making his way to the door, ready to head to his new home with Ben. He didn't want to delay it any further, especially since any delay was going to make his mom cry even more. Just like ripping a band-aid, he knew it'd be easier for him to go quickly. But he knew it won't be long before he's heading back for a visit. He's not planning on staying away for long.

“I’m sure they’d get used to it. Why have one protective dad when they could have two?” Ben chuckled. He really wasn’t used to thinking about the future like this, in the past he had only ever let himself think ahead to the next monster attack so that he could be ready for it and make sure that no one saw it happen. Now the bracelet Hope and Josie had made had stopped the monsters from coming after him and even though it wasn’t a permanent solution yet since it only worked when he was wearing the bracelet, he knew that they weren’t going to stop until they had found a way to break his curse once and for all. Now they all knew how dangerous it was, it had really hit home the day that Jed had sacrificed himself to save Ben from the dragon and Ben knew that he didn’t want anyone he cared about to ever have to do something like that for him again. His father had already wreaked havoc and he had killed both Hope and Josie but they were alive and stronger than ever and for that he was truly grateful. Neither he nor Jed had been set a good example by their biological fathers but they had at least both had adoptive fathers that they could look up to and there wasn’t a doubt in Ben’s mind that they were going to do better than the men whose DNA they shared ever had done. As Jed agreed that they would do better than their fathers, Ben nodded. Jed’s father was a horrible man who had wanted his son to kill his best friend. Ben knew that he would never understand how the man could have done that to his own flesh and blood but he and Jed were nothing like their fathers so he knew that it would be different for their kids when the time was right for them to start their own family. That step might be a long way off at the moment since they had both only just started college but this step wasn’t and Ben couldn’t wait to move in with Jed. It had taken them a while to find the perfect place and while they were searching they had ended up splitting their time between Jed’s house and the dorms. In all honesty it had started to feel like they were already getting a preview of what living together was going to be like and Ben couldn’t deny that the thought of waking up next to Jed every morning was one that he had wanted to fulfil for a long time. He had never known a love like this before and he knew that he wouldn’t find anything like it again so he knew that he wanted to enjoy this for as long as he could. “You’d better not now we’re nearly done packing, the only unpacking I want to do is when we get to our place,” Ben chuckled. He knew that Jed wouldn’t have changed his mind about this but he had still wanted to give him the chance to say if he was having any second thoughts just in case. Thankfully it didn’t seem that he was and Ben was truly glad about that. “Same here. This is the next chapter in our lives together and I can’t wait.” Ben knew that sooner or later they were going to have to face the fact that Jed was mortal while he was immortal and figure out exactly what their future was going to end up looking like but not today, today was all about the two of them moving in together and Ben knew that he wanted to enjoy every moment of it. “You’ve definitely got a great support system here, I’m so glad you found them all,” Ben admitted. Jed didn’t just have his family, he had his friends too and Ben was so glad that he’d had people there to help him. It had taken much longer for Ben to find Jed than it had for Jed to find him but Ben honestly believed that they were made for each other and he was glad that Jed’s family and friends had become his as well. They had found their home, they had found where they belonged and now they were getting the chance to start making some new memories. Hearing Jed’s next words was enough to bring a smile to Ben’s face and his expression softened as he let his hand rest against Jed’s cheek. “You’ve helped me a lot too, more than you’ll ever know and I don’t mean just with my curse,” he said, his eyes fixed on Jed’s as he spoke. “You’ve made me a better person.”What he had with Jed now was the kind of epic love that he had heard about but never thought that he would find. It felt like he’d found his home the moment he’d first laid eyes on Jed and Ben knew that he wasn’t going to let anything tear them apart, not even his father. “It’s true, you’re the strongest person I know,” Ben said gently. Jed had been through so much but he had still come through it the other side and he hadn’t let the fact that he had died stop him either. He had taken all of it in his stride and Ben was so proud of him for that. Jed’s next words were enough to have Ben’s expression softening. “I already know how much you love me. You died for me, I don’t think you could ever top that,” he said, a smile touching his lips as his eyes met Jed’s. “I’m glad you didn’t want to wait to do this, the rest of our lives starts today,” he said gently as Jed said that he was it for him too. Ben had never thought that he would be the kind of guy to want to settle down or start a family let alone have it actually be possible but the truth was that he wanted it all with Jed. He wanted to marry him one day and start a family of their own but that was a way off yet so for now Ben knew that he was happy just moving in with Jed for the time being. “Maybe you should leave something behind, it would give your mom and dad an excuse to come over,” Ben suggested, pretty sure that the two of them would want to leave them to it for a while if what Jenna had said earlier was anything to go by. Ben knew just how much Jed’s family meant to him, though, and they meant a lot to Ben as well so he knew that they would never turn them away when they decided to visit, no matter how soon that might be. As Jed said that maybe he had seen something that he liked, Ben couldn’t help but smile back at him in return. “That’s good because so do I,” he grinned. “We love you too son and in case we don’t tell you enough, we’re so proud of the man you’ve become,” Ric said, giving Jed’s shoulder a gentle squeeze as all four of them joined the hug. Ben could see that both of Jed’s parents were sad to see him go but it really wasn’t going to be even close to the last time they would see him. They would see each other plenty at school and Ben really hoped that Jenna would remember what he’d said about her being welcome to stop by any time. Pulling away from the hug, Ben stayed quiet as he watched Jed with his parents and as Jed moved back to pick up the boxes, Ben did the same. Offering Jed’s parents both a smile once Jed had said his goodbyes, Ben nodded as Jed said they should go. “We’ll see you both soon,” Ben said before leading the way outside. Once they reached the car he set the two boxes he was carrying down on the ground and unlocked the car, opening the truck to they could put the boxes inside and any that didn’t fit ended up on the back seat. Once they were done Ben climbed into the driver’s side and once Jed had joined him, Ben took Jed’s hand in his and gave it a gentle squeeze before lifting their joined hands and pressing a kiss to Jed’s knuckles. “Let’s go home,” he said, offering Jed a smile and giving his hand one more squeeze before reluctantly letting go so he could drive them to their new place. – I freed myself from words never said –
A chuckle left his lips at Ben's words before he found himself nodding in agreement. "It's a deal they can't refuse, really." No returns or exchanges available. They will have no choice but to live with two over-protective dads. Who wouldn't want that? All jokes aside, he will be moderately protective over his kids in the future. He wouldn't want them to go through a rebellious phase, after all. Remembering his own rebellious phase made him nearly cringe. Not at all fun to deal with when you're on the receiving end of that rebellion.
The thought of him changing his mind when they are literally so close to finishing up the packing process made him laugh. It would definitely be very awkward and very tiring to do. He held his hands up in mock surrender to showcase that he wasn't going to change his mind, not when they were so close to finally being done with the packing. While they still have a lot of unpacking to do once they go home, he had no doubt that it will pass a lot quicker since they already knew where everything was going to go. Just like Ben, he was really excited to begin that new chapter of their lives. He absolutely can't wait for it. It meant a lot to him that they were doing this. He'd been looking forward to their moving day ever since they were able to find their perfect home. Ever since then, he's been getting the boxes ready, his hands itching already to start the packing process but he knew by doing that, he might subject his parents to unnecessary pain since it would only make it dawn on them faster that he was moving out of the family house. But, he knew that they were happy for him and they understood his excitement.
"I'm truly blessed." Jed had a lot of people in his life who genuinely cared about his well-being and always made sure that he was happy. He wasn't sure where he'd be without them in his life. Probably in the woods, still lost and terrified of the world. "Same, Ben." While he helped Ben become a better person, Ben helped him become a better version of himself, too. He can't help but feel thankful for Ben's existence in his life. Something about him made Jed want to do better, to be better.
Jed didn't always feel strong but he was positive that could apply to all of them. It's not easy at all to always be strong in the face of danger and challenges, they all have their moments where they feel weak so he's at least comforted by that fact. He's not expected to always have his shit together and he's made sure to tell his pack the same thing. He made sure to tell them to come to him if they ever feel like they aren't strong enough or that they aren't doing enough. He knew how those thoughts could fester and spread if you don't quickly do something about it. Jed's expression softened as he brought his attention back to Ben, momentarily stopping so that he could plant a kiss on his cheek before he draw back. "So are you. Despite everything, despite the curse and what your father has done to you, you've pushed through and survived. You give me a lot of strength." Jed admitted with a gentle smile tugging at the corners of his lips. "Oh, you're right. This is definitely gonna make an interesting story for our kids one day." Jed said with a brief chuckle falling from his lips. "Oh, waiting has never been my strongest virtue, honestly." Jed said with a smile tugging at the corners of his lips. Oh how he was looking forward to the start of the next of their lives.
"That's not a bad idea at all. Hm. let's see." Jed opened one of the boxes to see what he could leave behind that would be easy for them to detect. He decided to leave behind one of his flannels, neatly folding it and leaving it inside the wardrobe before he leaned back with a proud smile on his lips. The absence of the flannel won't deter him anyway. Jed chuckled at Ben's words before he fondly shook his head, nudging him with his shoulder in a gentle manner. "I know." He teasingly replied back to Ben's comment when he told him that he liked what he saw, too.
Jed's expression softened to the point where he could feel the prickle of tears in his eyes before he quickly cleared his throat and nodded his head a few times, the ghost of a smile already tugging at the corners of his lips. He was at least thankful that the hug prevented his parents from seeing the brief moment where his eyes threatened to gloss over with tears. "Thank you, dad. Thank you for raising me and taking care of me. You guys mean so much to me and I'm thankful for everything you've done for me. You're the best parents I could've ever hoped for." Jed had been a difficult kid for years but they never gave up on him and instead counted on the day that he'll finally trust them and let them in. It was a slow process but they were so patient with him and he couldn't help but love them even more for it.
Jed looked over his shoulder one last time at his parents before offering them a gentle smile. He walked out a moment later and it wasn't long before they were in the car, their boxes placed away. Jed took a deep breath and held it for a moment before releasing it softly as he glanced one last time at the house. He wasn't having second thoughts, just committing the visual of the house to memory despite knowing that he'll be visiting in the future. His attention moved back to Ben, his smile immediately stretching his lips. His gaze softened at the kiss that Ben left behind on his knuckles. "Let's go home." Jed repeated, his excitement blossoming in the tone of his voice. He returned the squeeze before he leaned in to press yet another kiss on Ben's cheek before he drew back so he could buckle up and let Ben drive in peace. Jed watched the road with visible excitement before he quickly took out his phone to text Josie just to tell her everything was going well and to take good care, not only of their parents but herself too. He sent her the address too just so she could visit whenever she wanted. When he looked up from his phone, he wasn't at all surprised to see that they had arrived already since the house was close and the road was relatively empty, save for the car up ahead. "Home, sweet home." Jed spoke up with a grin already visible on his lips. He turned his attention to Ben once the car came to a stop and reached for his hand, holding it in his own. "Let's do this." Jed was now even more excited to move into their new home and spend their first night there. It was, indeed, the beginning of a new chapter in their lives.
