Summer’s hands were shaking as she made her way downstairs. She had always known that it was strange that her parents let her and her biological siblings go out and made sure that they had everything that they needed while their adoptive siblings were made to go without but she had always been forbidden to talk about it. It felt like more than that, though, there were times when she had tried to go against her parents’ wishes by talking about it to people outside her family and she had been physically unable to form the words. It wasn’t through lack of wanting to or through lack of trying, something had stopped her from telling anyone about what was going on at home. As far as her friends were concerned her parents didn’t like anyone coming into the house and they had a light allergy which was why the windows were boarded up. For a long time those around her had thought that she was strange but considering she couldn’t tell them the truth even if she wanted to she had no choice but to carry on living a lie. It wasn’t easy and she hated every minute of it but there wasn’t ever anything that she could do about it and she had been trying to make her peace with that and just make things easier for her adopted siblings whenever she could. Today something felt different, though. Her parents had told them all that they were going to play a game of hide and seek, the adopted kids had to hide while the biological kids had to find them and the first adopted kid that was taken to their parents would win a special prize. There was something about it that had filled Summer with dread especially after seeing the look in her twin sister’s eyes. Something didn’t feel right and so she had lurked outside the door while her siblings had gone to spread the word and it was then that she had heard the truth – her parents had said that a hunt was overdue and they couldn’t wait to drain one of her siblings dry. Summer had felt sick to her stomach the moment she had heard those words leave her parents’ lips, they had thought that they were completely alone so they had been free to talk without worrying about being overheard but Summer knew that she couldn’t stand by and just let this happen. Too many times she and her siblings had joked about their parents being vampires but now she couldn’t shake the feeling like it might actually be true and there were memories trying to surface but no matter how hard she tried to reach them she just couldn’t do it. Instead she made her way downstairs and relief flooded through her as she caught sight of Daniel, quickly pulling him out of sight. “This is going to sound crazy but we need to go and get help. I heard mom and dad say they’re going to kill one of our siblings and I believe them,” she said, her eyes pleading with him to believe her. She really was scared but she knew that their parents had to be stopped. DANIEL ROSWELL

━ a dire need for change as we fight for better days ━
Daniel's day had started out normally ━ at first, he couldn't even tell what time it was. The boarded windows made it really difficult for him to be able to tell whether it was morning or night. His question was answered when his eyes relaxed on the clock hanging from a loose nail on the wall. He kept himself busy for the most part because he was worried that if he had stopped even for a second, he'd lose his mind. No one should live this kind of life, completely isolated from the rest of humanity, barely able to push through the day. Little did he know, his parents were plotting to kill them, or at least one of them, upstairs, away from any eavesdroppers.
Daniel's heart nearly jumped from his chest when Summer grabbed him and pulled him aside, thinking she was one of the other siblings that loved to pick on them. Especially that crazy bitch with black hair, Ada. "God, Summer, you scared me━" Daniel's complaint was cut off when he noticed the look of fear on her face. He'd never seen her this scared before. "What happened? Why do you look like that?" Daniel questioned, already feeling his anxiety gnaw away at his insides, leaving them in shambles.
His expression fell when Summer mentioned that they need to go and get help. They were going to kill one of them? Daniel's lips parted and closed multiple times, his shock rendering him speechless for a few seconds. "K━Kill one of us? Are you sure? They're a little crazy but they wouldn't..." Daniel trailed off, his anxiety only growing from there. He couldn't delay it any further. He couldn't just stand there and do absolutely nothing. Not to mention that he trusted Summer and he knew that she wouldn't make something like this up. "Shit. Okay. Okay, we need to━" Daniel was cut off by the sound of a door slamming open upstairs, followed by hurried footsteps. His eyes widened as he pressed his finger against his lips, asking Summer to be quiet. It wasn't long before screams were erupting from every corner. It sounded like something straight out of a horror movie and it made his heart drop to the pit of his stomach. It wasn't long before the Roswell house was consumed by chaos. As much as he wanted to stay and protect his siblings, he can't do it on his own. He can't win. But if they get help, they have a pretty damn good chance at escaping this. His eyes moved back to Summer, giving her a nod of his head as he gestured to the door, still keeping quiet just in case. The last thing he wanted was to get caught before they could ever have the chance to get help.

So many times Summer had wanted to tell someone about what was going on at home and she had tried to on more than a few occasions but she had found that the words quite literally wouldn't come out of her mouth. She couldn't just turn a blind eye to what her parents were doing, they were making sure that her adopted siblings had just enough to keep them going but they were always hungry and that was something that just didn't sit right with her. Her adopted siblings weren't allowed to leave the house or go to school the truth was that she had never understood why. Some of her biological siblings didn't seem to care or took great joy in tormenting their adopted siblings, Ada especially which always made Summer feel sick to her stomach considering that the girl was her twin but the two of them were polar opposites and they always had been. While Ada liked to cause pain, Summer always did her best to try and make things better for her siblings and she knew that she was never going to stop trying to do that. To the outside world her parents lived from home and rarely left the house but to those on the inside there was something more to it than that, she just hadn't known what that was. Even now she didn't know the full story but she had heard her parents say that they were going to kill one of her adopted siblings and Summer knew that she couldn't just stand by and do nothing, she had to do something to make sure that they didn't lose another sibling like they had lost her brother all those years ago. Needless to say she was terrified of what was going to happen next. She knew that her parents needed to be stopped and in order to do that she was going to need some help. Seeing Daniel was enough to make her feel a little better, if there was someone she could count on to know what to do it was him and she knew that she must look bad based on the way he asked why she was looking like that but the truth was that she didn't have the heart to care, not after what she had overheard. "I-I know it sounds crazy but that's what they said, I swear," Summer breathed. "They want us to round all of you up and the first one we find is who they're going to hunt. They haven't been the same since our brother died before they took you in but I never knew they were capable of this." Her eyes were shining with tears now as she spoke. Summer loved her parents and the truth was that they had always been good to her but she knew that she couldn't let them kill anyone. Hearing sickening noises coming from upstairs, Summer's hand flew to her mouth to keep herself quiet and she tried to block out the sounds of screaming. Looking back at Daniel, Summer nodded as he indicated in fhe direction of the door and no sooner had her hand reached the doorknob than she heard a familiar voice asking where she was going - it was Ada's. "I need some air, I've been stuck inside all day and I'm feeling a little lightheaded. I'll be back in a minute to help you guys," she lied, hoping she sounded convincing. Thankfully Ada didn't seem to care too much and asked her if she knew where any of their siblings were hiding. "Have you tried the basememt?" she asked. She hadn't seen any of them heading that way but the entrance would take her twin far away from Daniel and that was all she cared about rignt now. Summer was relieved when Ada nodded before turning around and heading back in that direction, leaving Summer free to open the door and quickly usher Daniel outside before anyone else showed up, waiting for him to step outside first before she followed quickly after him. "We should go to the police, they might not believe us but I'm not sure who else to try. Have you got any ideas?" ahe asked as soon as they were a safe distance from the house. She knew that they couldn't just go to anyone, they had to be careful. DANIEL ROSWELL

━ a dire need for change as we fight for better days ━
Daniel could feel his heart racing as he listened to Summer. He knew that she didn’t really have a reason to lie — not like this. She’d never do something like that to him. She wasn’t like Ada, or the other siblings who seemed to find great pleasure in pulling awful pranks on them for absolutely no reason. “Holy shit…” Daniel trailed off as he tried to calm down. The last thing he needed was to panic. It would just make him get caught faster. When the hunt began, Daniel could feel his fight or flight instincts kicking in and oh how he wanted nothing more than get the hell out of the house to get some help because they wouldn’t be able to stop their parents, not without some help from the outside.
Daniel almost got caught by Ada but luckily, he had managed to hide at the very last minute, quickly ducking back into hiding, his hand pressed against his mouth to stifle any sounds. He watched the interaction between the two of them, his sweat beginning to gather on his forehead already. Please, just leave. Just leave, goddamnit. He whispered again and again in his mind. He could feel his shoulders sag in relief when Ada walked off, putting some much needed distance between them. Daniel emerged from where he was hiding and quickly followed Summer out of the house. He didn’t have time to enjoy the fact that he was outside because he was too busy putting as much distance as possible between them and the house. “The police sounds like the best option for us. They can help us get the rest out before its too late. They’ll believe us. They have to.” Daniel couldn’t stomach the fact that they might get turned away by the police. They were their only lifeline.
They can’t.
Turns out, they can. When they approached the police station, there was already a police officer outside, enjoying a cup of coffee. He seemed to stop when he saw two frantic kids making their way over to where he was standing. “Hey, hey, please, help us.” The officer frowned and asked him to stay calm and tell him what was wrong. Daniel tried to tell him as much as possible but he couldn’t help but notice that there was a certain look on his face.
A look that gave away he didn’t believe a single word that Daniel had uttered. “Please, they’ll kill us. You have to help us. There’s something really off about our parents.” Again, the officer told him to calm down and asked them to follow him into the station to take their report and get them somewhere safe.
Just them.
Summer was right when she mentioned the fact that they might believe them. Daniel’s shoulders sagged in defeat, his eyes moving over to Summer as the officer left them alone, expecting them to follow him into the station but Daniel didn’t move. “He doesn’t believe us… You were right. Our only goddamn lifeline doesn’t believe us… What are we gonna do?”

Summer couldn’t believe that any of this was happening. She had always known that her parents were odd and she hated the way they treated her adoptive siblings but she had never known that this was why they were the way they were. Something inside of them had changed the day her older brother died, that much she had seen even at such a young age, but there was a part of her now that wondered whether they had changed because their hearts had broken the day their child had died or whether they had changed because they were really the ones responsible for it. She hadn’t thought that they were capable of killing anyone but she knew that they had meant what they’d said and there was no way that she could just stand by and let it happen. Just the sound of the hunt beginning was enough to make her feel sick to her stomach and she naturally reached out to Daniel for help. She was never completely sure just how her adoptive siblings felt about her considering that her life was so very different to theirs but she loved them all anyway and she hoped that with Daniel’s help they just might be able to save the others. There were times when Summer found herself wondering whether there had to be some mistake about her and Ada being twins because they really were like night and day but they were always going to be sisters. The moment her twin showed up Summer was worried that she would find Daniel’s hiding place and he would be handed over to their parents but thankfully she left the two of them alone and Summer and Daniel were then able to sneak out of the house. “I hope so because if not then I have no idea what we’ll do,” Summer admitted. She knew that going to the police was risky, they might just dismiss what she and Daniel had to say as being nothing more than a prank but Daniel had believed her when she had told him what she’d overheard and she knew that she just had to believe that they would be able to make the police understand as well. As they reached the police station, Summer let Daniel do the talking. He was older than she was and in that moment she knew to let him take charge but she could see the look on the officer’s face as well as he could and her heart sank. “Please sir, you have to believe us. Every word is true,” she said, quickly blinking away the tears that formed in her eyes as she realised that he didn’t believe a word they were saying. As Daniel tried again and the officer asked them to follow him inside so he could get them somewhere safe, Summer shook her head. “You don’t understand. All of our adoptive siblings are in danger,” she breathed even though it didn’t change anything as far as the officer was concerned and he headed into the station. Once the two of them were left alone, Summer turned to look at her brother. “I’m so sorry, I really hoped we could make him believe us,” Summer admitted. She knew that it must have sounded crazy to the officer but every word they’d said was the truth and she’d hoped that would make a difference but it hadn’t. As Daniel asked what they were going to do, Summer shook her head. “I really don’t know. If we try going to the local news station or paper then it’ll take too long for them to check all the facts and they probably wouldn’t believe us either,” she sighed. “There has to be someone out there who can help us but I have no idea who.”DANIEL ROSWELL

━ a dire need for change as we fight for better days ━
Daniel could practically hear the sound of the officer crushing all of his hopes under his shoe without any remorse. It left him feeling like he was gasping for breath. Daniel could feel the rise and fall of his chest becoming more frequent, paranoid eyes scanning their surroundings every now and then. “We probably sounded crazy, I mean — what kind of family would willingly want to hurt their own kids, right?” Their family, apparently… Daniel ran his fingers through his hair, working his fingers through the tangles of his hair as he gulped past the lump in his throat, his anxiety already gnawing at his insides. He had no idea how long they had left before they came looking for them.
“Shit…” Daniel released a soft sigh. “Let’s just face it, Summer. There’s no one out there who will help us. We’re alone in this and we’re most definitely not gonna survive this damn night. It’s best if we faced the fact that our parents are gonna kill us tonight with their freaky hunt.” Daniel wasn’t sure if their parents would hurt Summer since she was their biological daughter, but she was actively helping Daniel and that definitely went against all rules, right?
“At least we tried… right?” Daniel didn’t know it was possible to feel so crushed but that feeling he was experiencing was so heavy on his chest and heart. It left him feeling so angry and so fed up. But most of all, he was just so tired of fighting, of seeking a way to end this nightmare. There truly was no ending to this.

– I freed myself from words never said –
When Jed decided to go out with his pack, he didn’t expect that he’d wind up in the path of two visibly distraught people. From their scent alone, he could tell that they were ordinary humans. It didn’t exactly help that they were outside of a police station. He wanted to mind his own business but how could he? Especially after they’ve mentioned that they were going to be killed. Something was terribly wrong. He could sense that from miles away, really. “Hey guys, hold on.” Jed called out to his pack as he finally stopped and turned to look at the two. “Something’s wrong with these two.” Jed voiced his own worries as he moved his eyes from the humans to the rest of his pack. “I need to find out what’s wrong.” Jed finally started making his way to the two, clearing his throat to announce his arrival which made the guy jump.
“Woah, Woah, easy. I’m not here to hurt you, I promise.” He held up his hands in a show of surrendering and also to assure them that he didn’t have anything in his hands. “I’m sorry, I overheard what you guys were talking about and I can tell that something’s off. I can help. In fact, we all can.” He gestured to the rest of his pack with a small smile resting on his lips. “Whatever you need, we’ll help.” Jed promised with a quick nod of his head following.
“Look, um… We appreciate the offer, but unless you have some sort of way to get rid of our parents, I don’t think you can do much to help. They won't stop.” Daniel offered with a shake of his head following, crossing his arms in front of his chest in a self-soothing gesture. Talking to outsiders wasn’t easy for Daniel since he’d only known his siblings for nearly his entire life.
“It’s okay, we have our ways. Look, I know it’s a lot to ask you guys to trust us, but I promise you I won’t let your parents hurt either of you. I also think a formal introduction is needed. My name is Jed. These are my friends." He gave his pack members a look to encourage them to introduce themselves too. "You mentioned something about a hunt, can you tell me what that is about? Are they hunting you guys?" As much as he didn't want to believe it, it sounded like it was a very big possibility. "Are there others involved in this freakish hunt?"

Summer had known that getting the police to believe them about what was going on was a long shot but the truth was that she had really hoped that it would work. She knew that her biological siblings would be fine but her adoptive siblings she wasn't so sure about. One thing she knew for sure was that her parents planned on killing one of them and she had no idea if they would stop there once they had a taste for it. Honestly it all felt like some kind of sick joke, she had known that something was wrong with her parents for a long time given just how badly they treated her adoptive siblings but she had never thought that they were capable of something like this. How they could act like that when they were so good to her and her biological siblings really was beyond her, it didn't make any sense at all but either way she knew that they needed to be stopped because none of her siblings deserved to be hunted and killed and no matter what any of her biological siblings might think she really wasn't sure that they could suffer another loss. "I know. I'm surprised he didn't call us out for trying to play a prank on him or something," Summer admitted although there was a defeated tone to her voice as she spoke. She really didn't know what was going to happen now it was clear that the officer didn't believe them. "We could try and convince another officer to help us but I imagine they'll say the same thing he did," she sighed. It really did seem like a lost cause, she knew that the last thing she wanted was to give up and resign herself to the fact that they were going to lose another sibling but she really wasn't sure what else they could do. As Daniel said it was time they faced the fact that their parents were going to kill them, Summer shook her head. "No, we can't give up," she said fiercely. She could definitely understand why Daniel wanted to because she wasn't sure how they could survive this either but it wasn't just them they had to think about. "We can't give up on our siblings, they're counting on us. We have to find a way to help them." Whether or not they would manage to do that in time she had no idea but she knew that they had to try. Looking over as someone approached, Summer was surprised as well and her gaze instantly went to her brother, knowing that she would follow his lead with this. The boy seemed to be around her age and so did all of his friends but there was something about him that seemed different. She hadn't seen any of them at school but the boy seemed so sure of himself and he seemed to genuinely want to help them but whether he could or not without getting hurt himself was a different matter entirely. As Daniel spoke before crossing his arms in front of his chest, Summer placed a light hand on his shoulder. "Sorry, it's been a rough day," she offered the newcomer, a half smile touching her lips as she looked over at him. As he introduced himself as Jed and each of his friends introduced themselves in turn as well, Summer let her gaze sweep over each of them in turn. "I'm Summer and this is my brother Daniel," she said, knowing that she didn't want to be rude. "I don't think they're hunting us yet but they will be soon because we broke the rules," Summer explained, knowing that when their parents figured that out then they would probably do the same to her that they would to Daniel. It was strange actually being able to talk about this with outsiders when in the past something had always been stopping her from finding the words but now they seemed to be tumbling out of her mouth. "Our parents adopted Daniel and some other kids years ago and I overheard them earlier saying that they were going to kill one of our adoptive siblings. You'll probably think it sounds crazy like the cop just did but I swear it's the truth. My biological siblings and I were meant to round up Daniel and the rest of our adoptive siblings and the first one brought to them would be our parents' target but we escaped to sound the alarm," she continued, her eyes searching the boy's for any sign that he would dismiss them the same way the police officer had. "We have to stop them before they hurt anyone but we don't know how. The police were our only hope."DANIEL ROSWELL & JED SALTZMAN

━ a dire need for change as we fight for better days ━
Daniel could feel all hope beginning to diminish as he struggled to stomach the fact that they were on their own once again. “There’s just no use. We sound like two people on something.” They would only wind up sounding insane or like they are pulling some sort of sick and twisted prank on the officers. His eyes moved back to Summer when it became clear that she wasn’t going to give up. He admired her for it, but their only lifeline had been savagely cut and they were back to square one. Daniel just didn’t believe they could do anything else to save their siblings as well as themselves.
But then, there was a masculine voice. He introduced himself as Jed and the others with him soon introduced themselves, too. Daniel’s eyes shifted back to Summer when she introduced them to the stranger who could be a seriously messed up person in disguise. Daniel wasn’t sure if he had any trust left in him to put it in the other at the current moment. When he noticed the confused look on the other’s voice, he finally decided to speak up. “We’re not supposed to leave the house. At least, I’m not. She wasn’t supposed to warn me about the hunt, either.” Daniel was quiet as he listened to Summer explain what was going on with them, his stomach clenched tight at how messed up it was. His only hope was for this nightmare to end.

– I freed myself from words never said –
Jed shook his head gently when the girl apologized and explained that it had been a rough day. "It's okay. I get it." His voice was soft as he spoke. "Nice to meet you guys." Jed offered back, a small smile stretching his lips. He didn't want them to feel like they were making a grave mistake trusting him. He wanted to help them as much as he could because they really looked like they needed his help. "The rules?" Jed parroted. They have rules? Daniel soon explained that he will get in trouble for leaving the house and Summer will get in trouble for telling him about the hunt. He could sense that the situation at home was very, very messed up, especially since Daniel looked sickly. "Why aren't you allowed to leave the house?" Jed asked with a confused look on his face although he had a feeling that he was going to regret asking that question.
Jed's lips parted as his surprise became apparent on his face as he continued listening to Summer. It was very messed up and Jed nearly felt sick to his stomach just from listening. "No, no, I believe you. You don't sound like a crazy person and you don't look the part, either." They sounded like two distraught people looking for help.
And Jed was determined to help them.
In any way that he could.
"The police, they uh, they rarely get cases like these. The most they've dealt with in a while were animal attacks, so for something like this to pop up in a town like Mystic Falls, it sounds like a fairytale, but not to me. Not to us." Jed said with a quick nod of his head as he looked over his shoulder at his pack. "Look, things didn't work out with the police, but they'll work out with me, okay? Let us help. Let us become your new hope." Jed offered, his eyes moving between Daniel and Summer.
"No... No, they'll kill you guys too. We need guns, we need things that can intimidate them... No offense, but you guys don't look that um... intimidating." Daniel offered. He wasn't sure he could live with their blood on his hands. He didn't want to bring innocent people into this messed up situation, especially not when their parents were more than capable of ending their lives.
"Look, I get that we don't have guns or look intimidating like cops do, but you guys can't really afford to turn down our help right now, though. It sounds like you're running out of time and we're plenty capable of intimidating your parents, don't worry. Let us help. You won't regret it."

"I know. I have no idea how to tell them what's going on without making it sound like we're crazy," Summer admitted. She wished she did know how to make the police understand since they were the only hope their siblings had but she just didn't know how to make them see that they were telling the truth. Summer knew that it would be easy for them to run away and forget all about what was going on at home but she just couldn't bring herself to do it. She didn't want to give up and leave their siblings to fend for themselves because she knew that she would never be able to forgive herself if they did that. They had to find a way to help their siblings one way or another no matter how hopeless it might seem right now. The boy's voice as he approached surprised her but he soon introduced himself and Summer was quick to do the same. "Nice to meet you too," she nodded, knowing that she didn't want to be rude considering they had found someone who seemed to actually care about what they were going through even if he had no idea who they were. As he repeated what they'd said about the rules, Summer nodded once more. "That's right. I've never understood why but Daniel and our other adopted siblings aren't allowed to ever leave the house and they're only allowed to eat certain things at specific times while normally I'm forbidden from talking about what is going on at home. Something has always stopped me before but today something is different," she explained. She didn't know what it was but she was able to talk freely about what her parents were doing and she knew that she needed to use that chance to make a difference. "There's something very wrong with our parents, they haven't been the same since our brother died years ago." Summer knew that being honest with the boy like this was a risk but the police weren't going to help them so she knew she had to hope that this boy could. "You really believe us?" Summer asked, unable to deny that she was surprised. There was something about the boy that made her feel like she could trust him and yet there was a part of her that had still thought that he would end up dismissing them just like the cop had done. It seemed surreal that he actually believed what they were saying but it was enough to reignite a little hope within her once more and she wanted to hold onto that but Daniel was soon voicing his reservations and she couldn't blame him. Jed and his friends all looked to be around her age and they really didn't seem that intimidating. Summer knew that some of her siblings like Ada would be enjoying themselves while they hunted so Jed and the others could easily end up being outnumbered but he seemed to want to help them and Summer wanted to let him so badly. "Daniel's right, we don't want any of you getting hurt," she said gently, knowing that the last thing they needed was to have to deal with the guilt of something happening to Jed or one of his friends as well. Summer hesitated as Jed said that they were running out of time and she studied him carefully as he said that they wouldn't regret letting him help them. "I don't think we have a choice Dan, either we let them help or at least one of our siblings is going to die and then we'll probably be next."DANIEL ROSWELL & JED SALTZMAN

– I freed myself from words never said –
Jed frowned slightly as he listened to Summer explain the situation back at home. It sounded seriously messed up, the way that they were divided like that. "That's — seriously messed up. What's up with your parents? Is this some sort of power play?" Jed's question was a more rhetorical one. Though there was something about Summer's words that began to ring alarms in his head. Something was stopping her from telling people about the situation back at home. It could be compulsion. Summer and Daniel both didn't have the lingering scent of a supernatural being, so compulsion would definitely be able to work on them. "Weird question, but does your parents wear a jewelry with a — gemstone in it? Or do they only, let's say, go out at night?" It was a long stretch to ask these questions but then he'd be able to know what he was dealing with.
"I've never seen them go out in the morning. If they choose to leave the house, it's mostly at night, I guess." The same alarming bells began ringing even louder and the signs were simply too hard to ignore. "But then again, sometimes it's hard to tell what time it is with the windows boarded up like that." Jed's brows quirked up when Daniel revealed that their windows were boarded. Who the hell would board up their windows unless they don't want any sunlight in their homes? Jed's guess was that they were vampires with no way to get a daylight ring, so they were forced to stay at home and hide from the rays of sunlight.
Jed's realization must have bled through his expression because Daniel picked up on it. "What is it? Do you know what's up with them?" Daniel pressed on, Jed's eyes settled on him for a moment. "I do. At least, I think I do." Jed said with a quick nod of his head following but refused to explain further. His eyes moved to settle on Summer when she mentioned that something was very wrong with their parents. "I'm sorry to say this out loud, but I really do think that your parents had something to do with your brother's death. Either way, this messed up lifestyle ends today. I'll make sure of it, okay?" Something inside of them had probably snapped after the loss of their son and from there, it was just a nightmare for everyone involved.
"I do. You don't look like pranksters and the situation back at home seems genuine, so of course I believe you." Jed said with a quick nod of his head following. When Summer told him that they don't want any of them to get hurt, he gently shook his head. "You don't have to worry about us. We're plenty capable of protecting ourselves. Plus, I wouldn't have offered if I really didn't think I'd be able to help." Jed assured them.
"Shit... Okay. Okay. Let's go back." Daniel finally relented, knowing that it won't do them any good to delay this any further. "Lead the way, we'll be behind you." Jed glanced over at his pack, giving them a nod of his head. Once Daniel and Summer were ahead, he spoke up to his pack. "I think we're dealing with vampires here. It sounds very high likely. They don't go out when the sun's out, Summer can't tell why she's not able to talk to anyone about the situation back at home. The unjust way that they are treating their adopted kids. My guess is that they adopted them to have walking blood bags, basically. Easy access, less hard-work, but I guess we'll know when we get there. Our priority is saving the kids, okay? We'll handle the parents after making sure they're okay." And with that, Jed began speeding up his steps to catch up with Summer and Daniel as they began heading closer and closer to their residence.

“I have no idea. They weren’t always like this, they used to love having fun with us but now it’s like they’re completely different people,” Summer admitted. It had been that way ever since her brother had died, after that they had changed and even bringing more kids into the house hadn’t helped. Summer was only seven when her brother died but she could still remember the way things used to be. A lot of her siblings didn’t seem to care that their adoptive siblings were treated so badly as long as they weren’t subjected to the same treatment but that wasn’t Summer and it never had been. As Jed asked about whether their parents wore jewellery with a gemstone in it or whether they only went out at night, Summer looked over at Daniel as he answered part of the question. “They definitely only go out at night but they don’t even do that too often,” she explained. “I haven’t seen them wear any jewellery like that though, in fact other than their wedding rings they don’t tend to bother with too much at all,” she added. She wasn’t entirely sure where Jed was going with this but he seemed to have figured something out and she could see that Daniel knew it too. “Please, you have to tell us what’s going on,” she pleaded, knowing that they all probably needed answers after things had been like this for so long. Jed didn’t seem to want to tell them what was going on but Summer couldn’t shake the sinking feeling in the pit of her stomach. There was something in the back of her mind reminding her of the way her older siblings used to joke about the way their parents had become vampires after they disappeared that one night years ago. There was definitely something up with her parents and there had been for a long time but she knew that it couldn’t be that. Vampires weren’t real, after all. As Jed said he thought that their parents had something to do with her brother’s death, Summer’s eyes widened in surprise as she looked over at him. “Wait, what do you mean you think they had something to do with my brother’s death. What’s going on?” she asked, knowing that she couldn’t stand not knowing any longer no matter how awful it might be. As Jed said their messed up lifestyle was going to end today and that he was going to make sure of it, a laugh escaped Summer’s lips. “That might not be as easy as you think. My twin sister Ada loves torturing our adoptive siblings and some of the others like the way their lives are. They might not be willing to give it up so easily,” she explained, knowing that at the very least her twin would fight tooth and nail to keep things the way they were. It was all such a mess but Summer couldn’t deny that it was a relief to know that Jed believed them especially after the police officer had dismissed what they were saying so quickly. He had promised to help them but it was clear that he hadn’t believed them and Summer was glad that they had finally found someone who did. “If you’re sure, we don’t want anyone else getting hurt,” she nodded. That was why they had gone to the police in the first place, they were the best equipped to help them but deep down there was a part of her that had known that they wouldn’t believe them. Summer couldn’t deny that she was relieved when Daniel agreed and she nodded as Jed told them to lead the way. He stayed back to talk to his friends and Summer could hear snippets of what he was saying but not too much so it still didn’t make any sense to her. “I’m as uneasy about this as you are but they’re probably the only people who will believe us,” Summer said, keeping her voice low as she walked beside her brother. She knew they must have sounded crazy but it was clear that Jed believed them and he seemed to want to help them so she knew that they had to let him try. It was strange heading back home while knowing what was going on where and as they approached her face went white as she heard their mom calling out Eddie’s name and telling him that it was okay to come out of hiding because the game was over. There was something so familiar about those words and she instantly didn’t trust them one bit, instead reaching out for her brother’s hand. “It’s Eddie, he’s the one they’re hunting,” she said, a horrified expression forming on her face even as her eyes stung with tears that she quickly blinked away. “This is us,” she said, doing her best to keep her tone level as she turned to look at Jed. – I freed myself from words never said –
Jed nodded his head slowly to let Summer know that he was listening as she explained that their parents weren't always like that. They could have changed after becoming vampires. It would explain everything that was going on with them. It seemed like they only adopted those kids to have them walking blood bags. His brows quirked as Summer confirmed his suspicion. It definitely felt like he was dealing with vampires and luckily enough, a bite from him should be more than enough to put an end to their reign. "That makes a lot of sense." Jed replied with a soft sigh falling from his lips. He looked a little surprised when Summer begged him to tell her what was going on. His expression softened for a moment as his lips parted and closed. 'It's going to sound insane, even with everything that you guys are going through..." He trailed off, unsure whether he should tell them the truth or not. But then he made a comment about their parents being involved in her brother's death. He realized that keeping the truth from them won't do them any good and if they really need to put an end to their parents, they need to know what was going on with them. "Okay, look, this is going to sound insane, but your parents are vampires. I'm guessing they adopted you and the others to have you as blood bags, as inhumane as that sounds, but it would save them a lot of trouble and would also save them from getting discovered. Think about it this way, they were normal until one day, they stopped being normal. They don't go out when the sun's out, they adopted you and the others but they treat you really, really bad... It all checks out. I'm guessing that your brother was their first victim, they lost control and drank too much and he sadly passed away... It would also explain the noticeable change. Newly turned vampires can't control their thirst and more often than not, they lose control and harm those around them. Even if they're their own son." Jed explained, knowing there was a high possibility that they won't believe what he was saying especially since it really sounded like something straight out of a horror movie. But it made a lot of sense and he hoped that they would also connect the dots.
"Well, they're gonna have to give it up." Jed couldn't believe how messed up it all sounded, but he was glad that he had the opportunity to help out. "Don't worry." Jed assured her in a soft voice as he followed them as they walked toward the house, slowly but surely closing the distance between them and the house. "I know. I just hope that they don’t die on us. That would really suck.” Daniel’s head was still reeling from Jed’s earlier confession about his parents being vampires. It sounded like something straight out of a fairytale but it made a lot of sense and he failed to see why Jed would lie to them about something like that, or even prank them.
Jed stopped with a frown on his features as his hearing picked up on a voice calling out someone named Eddie’s name. "Shit, shit, shit..." Daniel whispered, his expression showing how panicked he was. “Okay, look, here’s what’s gonna happen. My friends and I are gonna get in there and stop them from harming your brother. What I need is for you two to stay out here. I know you wanna help, but it’s not safe in there for you guys, alright? I’ll call out if we need your help. In the meantime, stay out of sight, alright?” Jed’s eyes moved from Daniel to Summer before his attention drifted back to the house in alarm when he heard a loud scream. “Follow me, guys. Keep your eyes open. Saving them is our priority. If the parents get away, let them.” Jed told his pack with a nod of his head following before his attention drifted back to Summer and Daniel before he rushed past them, entering the house where the screams kept coming from. He tried to open the door but it was locked to keep everyone inside and so with his strength, he was able to knock it down. "What the hell?!" Ada yelled. "Who the hell are you?" She stepped forward, standing in the way as she regarded the intruders with burning rage. "Ah, I should've known it was you. You snitched on us, you asshole?" Her eyes were on someone else behind Jed and he didn't even have to look to know who it was. "Whatever is going here, it ends now. No one has to get hurt."

Summer knew that what she and Daniel were saying had to sound crazy, the police officer had promised to help get them somewhere safe but the truth was she was pretty sure that the help he thought they needed wasn’t even close to the help they actually needed. He clearly hadn’t believed them about what was going on at home and Summer knew that when adults made up their minds about something it wasn’t often easy to get them to change their minds. She and Daniel were both desperate to find a way to help their siblings and make sure that none of them died that day but they were running out of options. Jed seemed to genuinely want to help them and Summer could see that he believed them but he and his friends were around her age so she really wasn’t sure what they were going to be able to do. “It does?” she asked as Jed said that it made a lot of sense, certain now that there was something that she and Daniel were both missing. “You believed us so we’ll believe you,” Summer assured him as he said that it was going to sound insane. She wasn’t sure what she had expected but she couldn’t deny that she was surprised when Jed said that their parents were vampires. To start with she wanted to deny it but as Jed continued, her expression turned thoughtful for a moment. “I remember a night before our parents adopted Daniel and the others. They went out for the night and when we woke up the following day we found they hadn’t made it home. They came back that night but they stayed outside until they were invited in. It was almost like they couldn’t enter the house until then,” she explained. “I haven’t thought about that night in a long time.” Her parents had seemed normal after that although they had stopped going to work during the day and had started working from home instead. It was only after her brother died that they had really changed and now she couldn’t help but wonder if perhaps Jed was right. “They said an animal killed him while he was out. You really think they did it?” she breathed, not wanting to believe that her parents were capable of killing their own son even if every fibre of her being was telling her that she didn’t really know them at all after everything that had happened today. “I can’t promise they’ll listen,” Summer said, knowing that at the very least Ada would fight with everything she had to keep things as they were. Even when they were younger there had always been something so unhinged about her twin sister and that hadn’t changed as they had gotten older. Ada seemed to take great pleasure from making the lives of those around her hell and their adoptive siblings had ended up dealing with the brunt of that but Summer hadn’t escaped her sister’s torment either. She had never been able to understand how they could be twins and yet still be so different but if she was honest she was glad that she was nothing like her sister. “It would. Jed seems so sure that they can help, we have to believe that they’ll be alright,” she said gently to Daniel as they walked. “If nothing else he seems to know all about vampires, he didn’t seem surprised at all.” How he knew about them she had no idea but she was glad he knew what they were up against anyway. “They can’t kill him, we have to get him out of there,” Summer said, knowing that they couldn’t just abandon their brother. As Jed said that he and his friends were going to stop their parents and she and Daniel needed to stay outside, her eyes widened in surprise. “We can’t let you go in there alone,” she protested although she froze at the sound of the scream that came from the house. The neighbours probably thought it was just a movie being played far too loudly or something, no one seemed to be aware of what was really going on and that alone was enough to make Summer feel sick to her stomach. Everything seemed to happen so quickly as Jed somehow managed to break down the door and before she knew it Ada’s voice was coming from the house and her gaze came to rest on her sister as she said they’d snitched. “You might not be able to see it but this is wrong Ada, it’s sick. We did what we had to do,” she said, keeping her voice level as she spoke since she was certain they had done the right thing. DANIEL ROSWELL & JED SALTZMAN
