– I freed myself from words never said –
Jed nodded his head when Summer said that she was willing to believe him because he had believed their story. He explained everything to her and her brother and when she explained that her parents had struggled to enter their own home until they received an invitation, it only made him realize that he was right. “It’s one of the weaknesses of vampires. They can’t enter homes without an invitation.” Jed explained with a quick nod of his head following. As much as he wanted to tell them everything about vampires, he knew they were short on time. “I really think so.” Jed replied. As much as he wanted to tell Summer otherwise, it made a lot of sense. “I’m sorry, guys.” Jed added a moment later. “Mystic falls is popular for the animal attacks, but if that were the case, it wouldn’t make sense as to why your parents adopted kids and didn’t just stick with you guys.” Jed explained further, his expression turning into a sympathetic one. He knew they were running low on time and if they aren’t careful, they might just wind up losing another kid. Jed just can’t let that happen.
“Sounds like they’re a handful.” Jed trailed off with a shake of his head following. He knew that in most cases, families weren’t perfect, but it seemed like Summer and Daniel’s family was — special, to say the least. “Tell me about it… If they are frickin’ vampires, I don’t know how he’s storming straight into the danger zone like that.” It blew his mind how far Jed was willing to go to help them, especially when it all sounded so dangerous, but Daniel was eternally grateful for his help. He hoped that with his help, this will come to an end and they will finally manage to get out of their parents’ restrictive hold.
“Oh, no, no. It’s definitely not safe for you guys in there, okay? Stay back.” Jed sent them an assuring nod before he followed the source of the scream and managed to bring the door down which brought him face to face with a girl with dark hair. In her eyes, there was a spark of nothing short of madness. “What you had to do was not ruin our goddamn night, Summer. But you just had to stick to your pure-hearted, good-natured bullshit.” The girl hissed through gritted teeth, her eyes shifting back to the intruders.
“Hey, look, you don’t know what you’re getting involved into. Your parents aren’t what they seem.” Jed tried to reason with her, but from the way she was looking at him, he knew that she wasn’t going to change her mind. “Take us to Eddie and no one has to get hurt." Jed promised, his eyes still focused on Ada who only laughed at the promise. "Oh, but where's the fun in doing what you ask?" Ada asked with a mocking tilt of her head, tendrils of her hair falling over her face as she stepped closer, the same smile that was filled to the brim with ill intent still visible on her face. "Well, I wasn't really asking." Came Jed's reply as he took a step forward, standing face to face with which only made her smile even more, amused by the challenge that was brought to the table.
"Stop it!" This time, a guy's voice came through, though he was nowhere to be found which only made him realize that he wasn't talking to them. If he followed his voice, he could get to Eddie, but with Ada in the way... Pulling his attention away from her was definitely not the right move as he felt her move her hand to punch him, but he managed to hold her wrist before she could deliver the punch, his eyes moving back to her, narrowing in a warning. "Don't." Jed warned her but she only raised her other hand to deliver a punch with her remaining hand but Jed caught that too as he pushed her back, making her nearly lose her footing but she stubbornly held her ground.
Daniel came between the two of them which made Ada laugh loudly. "Oh, I've been dying to do this." Ada's lips stretched into a grin as her mocking laughter subsided. "Go. I've got her." Daniel pressed and Jed nodded his head, knowing it would be best not to test Eddie's luck.
"Mom! Dad! Stop!" The same voice came again and Jed didn't hesitate to follow it this time and as he followed the voice, the smell of blood became more and more prominent to the point where he could almost taste it. So heavy in the air that it made his nose wrinkle. "Hey! Let him go!" His voice was enough to capture their attention as they turned their heads back to him, blood dripping from their chins, looking absolutely feral. "My, my, what's this? Dessert?" The woman wiped the blood from her chin in an elegant motion as she stepped forward but stopped when she saw the red glow in Jed's eyes. "Think again. I'm guessing you don't know what I am, so I'll save you the boring entry on my kind, but one bite from me is enough to kill you. It won't be a quick death either." Jed took a step forward and they took a step back. "It'll be a slow and painful death. Suitable for you both, actually." Jed took a step forward, followed by another one.
"I'm giving you a way out. Take it or leave it. Either way, you're no longer the predator here. We are." Jed glared at them, his anger visible in his eyes as a growl began to bubble up his throat. A final warning. One that they heeded as they used their speed to vanish within seconds which made the tension collected in his shoulders vanish as he rushed to where Eddie was. "Hey! Hey, Eddie. Hey, man. You gotta keep your eyes open for me, okay? Help's coming. I promise. Just don't go yet, alright? Stay with me." Jed gently tapped the boy's cheek. Though as he moved closer to Eddie, the smell of blood only became stronger and stronger. He looked deathly pale and he doubted that he'd last long enough for help to arrive. He turned his attention to his pack. "He's — he's not in good shape." Jed whispered to them. "I don't think he's gonna be here when help arrives." What he meant was, he doubted humans could save him.
But Jed could.
Maybe.
That's the tricky part with the bite, your body could either embrace it or reject it and he feared the latter would be Eddie's case. If it did manage to save the boy, he wasn't sure whether he'd accept the fact that he's not entirely human anymore. It sucks, having the choice stripped away from you and he'd hate to be the reason that Eddie spends the rest of his life struggling. "I—I'm sorry, guys. I don't think the hospital is gonna be much a help in your brother's case. Your parents nearly drained him and whatever they didn't manage to take from him, is already running out of his wounds, I—I don't think the ambulance will arrive fast enough." Jed's eyes settled on Eddie once again, keeping one hand on his wound, keeping as much pressure as possible, but he could already feel Eddie's warm blood covering the palm of his hand.

It seemed crazy to think that their parents were vampires but the truth was that the more Summer thought about it, the more it made sense. She hadn’t put the pieces before or perhaps she just hadn’t wanted to admit it but now it seemed glaringly obvious and she couldn’t deny it any longer. “I was only young at the time but some of my siblings used to joke about them being vampires after they came home that night. We should have realised it was true but I don’t think any of us wanted to believe it,” Summer admitted. As far as she was aware none of her siblings knew about the supernatural world outside of what they saw in movies, on television and in books. It was a lot to accept that vampires were real but it definitely explained a lot and she was pretty sure that it couldn’t be denied any longer. Just the thought of them being involved in her older brother’s death was enough to make Summer feel sick to her stomach but she knew that chances were Jed was right about that as well. “Something never added up there because they said they didn’t want Daniel and the others to leave the house instead a creature got them too but the rest of us were free to come and go as we pleased. It never made sense but they were so convincing,” Summer explained. “It didn’t matter what they said, it was like we all had no choice but to believe them,” she added, not knowing that they had actually been compelled. Jed was definitely right when he said that their siblings sounded like a handful but as he fell back to talk to his friends, Summer turned her attention to her brother. “Neither do I. He’s either really brave or there’s more to him than meets the eye as well. Perhaps both,” she shrugged. Either way Jed didn’t seem worried at all about it and neither did his friends, in fact just looking back at them now it looked like some of them were almost itching for a fight after Jed presumably explained what was going on with their parents. Summer wanted nothing more than to go in there with Jed and the others and make sure that Eddie was alright but there was something about the way he told them to stay back that was enough to make Summer listen to him. His voice seemed to carry with it a certain authority and Summer knew that she wasn’t going to disobey the person who had promised to step in and help them when the police had refused to believe them. Of course Ada wasn’t going to make it easy, though, and Summer rolled her eyes at her twin’s words. “Better that than being sick and twisted like you and our parents. You must be able to see that this is wrong Ada, it’s murder,” she retorted even though she really wasn’t sure whether there was any chance of getting through to her sister at this point. Ada took pleasure in making life difficult for all of them and Summer wouldn’t be surprised if her sister had enjoyed the thrill of the hunt just as much as their parents had. As Jed tried to reason with Ada, Summer fixed her gaze on her sister. “Please Ada. No matter what you think about Eddie or any of us, no one deserves to die tonight. Please help them,” she said, her heart sinking as her words fell in deaf ears. It wasn’t long before she heard another voice and her breath caught in her throat as she recognised her brother’s voice. “That sounds like Robbie,” she said to Daniel, unable to deny that she was surprised that he seemed to be trying to help given how he felt about their adoptive siblings. That seemed to be enough to have Ada start throwing punches, though, and Summer looked on in horror. “Ada, no!” she exclaimed although Jed seemed to be able to deal with her with ease. As Daniel stepped forward to distract Ada, Summer did the same. “No, we’ve got her,” she said, knowing that she wasn’t going to leave her brother to deal with Ada alone. “Please save Eddie.”Jed and his friends soon took off into the house and time seemed to move so slowly as they waited for news of their brother. Summer could hear the exchange between their parents and Jed and she felt sick as her mom said that Jed looked like dessert. It was awful and for a moment she thought that her parents were going to fight to the death but suddenly something raced passed them out of the house and she looked over at Daniel in surprise. It wasn’t long before one of Jed’s friends, Ria, came to tell them that their parents had left and Summer followed her through the house to where Eddie was laying bleeding on the floor. “Eddie!” she exclaimed as she raced to her brother’s side, quickly blinking away the tears that formed in her eyes at the sight of him. “You have to hold on, please,” she said, reaching for his hand as Jed applied pressure to the worst of his wounds. As he said he didn’t think that Eddie was going to be able to hang on long enough for the ambulance to arrive Summer shook her head, not wanting to believe it. “There has to be something we can do,” she said as she lifted her gaze to meet Jed’s. “He doesn’t deserve to die like this.”DANIEL ROSWELL & JED SALTZMAN

– I freed myself from words never said –
Jed's expression turned into a sympathetic one as he listened to Summer explain what they had thought about their parents back then. It seemed like they weren't far from the truth at all. "You had no way of knowing, not for sure, at least. Vampires and everything else sounds like its something straight of fiction, honestly. If I wasn't exposed to these things from a young age, I would've grown up the same way, too." Jed comforted her with a quick nod of his head following. "Plus, they're your parents. It's not easy to believe something like that about your parents."
Jed was quiet as he listened to Summer, his head tilted slightly to the side as his brows tugged down into a frown as he began processing what she was saying, the wheels turning in his brain for a moment before everything seemed to click for him as his lips parted in realization. "Compulsion." Jed breathed out with a shake of his head following. "Compulsion? What's that?" Daniel questioned with a frown tugging at the corners of his lips. "The easiest way to explain this, it's brainwashing, basically. Vampires have the ability to convince humans to do what they want them to do, or say what they want them to say. They brainwashed you into believing every lie, that's probably why you weren't able to get help any sooner."
"Tell me about it. I guess we'll see when we get there. I can't say I'm willingly going back there." To say that he was nervous would be an understatement. He really wanted them to survive tonight with no casualty but as they neared the house and as the ruckus only got louder, he realized it was very high unlikely.
It seemed like no matter how hard Summer tried to reason with her sister, she wasn't listening. She was wrapped tightly around her parents' fingers, driven crazy with the promise of hurting her adoptive siblings. It was twisted, to say the least. She delayed him just long enough for things to go way south because by the time their parents had left the house in a blur of high speed, Eddie was on the brink of death, just barely hanging on.
His eyes shifted back to Summer when he heard the way she said that Eddie didn't deserve to die like this. Jed couldn't help but agree more. It felt wrong letting him die like this. He was still so young... "There's something that I can do." Jed spoke up, erupting the silence that seemed to shadow over them. "I can save your brother." Or guarantee his death... Jed thought to himself before he let out a sigh, knowing that dwelling won't do them any good. "I don't have enough time to explain, so I'll explain everything after." Jed said, knowing that explaining everything might take some time and Eddie doesn't have that. He doesn't have long at all.
Jed grasped Eddie's arm in his own, his eyes shifting back to his pale face. "I'm sorry, kid." Jed whispered before he leaned down, biting onto his arm long enough to leave a mark, long enough to guarantee that his alpha bite had worked before he leaned back. "What – What the hell did you do? What was that? Cannibalism or something?" Robbie spoke up as he moved forward and a little closer.
Jed wiped the edge of his lips with the back of his hand before he shook his head. "I'm a werewolf. It's why your parents ran away instead of fighting us. We can give them a pretty slow and painful death." Jed explained as he gently lowered Eddie's arm down. "What I did was turn your brother into a werewolf, like me. If his body doesn't reject the bite, that is..." Jed explained, feeling his throat tighten a little bit with the surfacing anxiety.
"What happens if his body doesn't accept the bite?" Daniel questioned with a confused frown tugging at his features. "He dies..."

Summer couldn’t believe that she had missed the signs. She had known that something was off with her parents for a long time but the truth was that she was only young when her parents disappeared and her brother died so her memories of a life before that weren’t as clear as they otherwise would have been. There was a part of her that didn’t want to believe that what Jed was telling them was the truth but she could see that he meant it and it made complete sense. Now she couldn’t help but wonder if the siblings who used to joke about it back then had known the truth but she had a feeling that she would never know for her. “It sounds like something out of a nightmare, to be honest,” Summer admitted. “You grew up knowing about all of this? I can’t imagine what that must have been like,” she added. It was a lot to take in learning about this now but to know about it as a child seemed crazy. As Jed said the word compulsion, Summer was so glad that Daniel seemed as confused by it as she did. “They brainwashed us?” she asked, the colour draining from her face as Jed explained what he’d meant. “It sounds crazy but I think it makes sense. I tried telling someone about what was going on at home so many times but it was like I physically couldn’t form any words to explain,” she admitted. She hadn’t understood it back then but now it suddenly made sense. “Can compulsion wear off?” she asked, not sure if there was a reason why today they had both been able to talk about it freely. She had known that something was different earlier that day but it wasn’t until she’d actually been able to talk to the police officer and Jed that she’d realised that whatever had been holding her back from talking about it wasn’t doing that anymore. “Neither am I. When this is all over I want to get as far away from that house as I can,” Summer breathed. She didn’t even want to think about what had really been going on inside those four walls but she still couldn’t stop her mind from going there and she had to keep forcing herself to think about something else. Her parents were vampires and had been for a long time by the sounds of it which meant that they would have needed blood during that time. She was pretty sure that they hadn’t fed on her and she doubted they had on her biological siblings either, it seemed that was why they had adopted Daniel and the others in the first place and just the thought of her parents using them in that way was enough to make her feel sick to her stomach. They didn’t deserve that and she hoped that once this was all over they would finally be able to live the life they deserved. Of course Ada wasn’t going to make it easy for them but then again Summer had never expected any different from her sister. They were twins but they were so different and she knew that Ada enjoyed hurting the others. Summer kept trying to get through to her sister, not wanting to believe that she was a lost cause, but she could see that she wasn’t getting anywhere. Before she knew it they were with Eddie, Robbie and Jed and it looked like their brother wasn’t going to last much longer and Summer hated the fact that after everything they were still too late. Summer’s eyes were full of hope as Jed said that there was something that he could do and she was about to ask what he meant when he said he would explain everything after. All she could do was watch as Jed bit her brother’s arm and her eyes widened in surprise at Robbie’s words. “Jed, what’s going on?” she asked, knowing that she wasn’t going to let her faith in him waiver now but needing to know what had just happened. “Werewolves are real too?” she asked as he explained what had happened. She was about to ask what would happen if Eddie’s boddy rejected the bite but Daniel beat her to it and a gasp escaped her lips as Jed said that Eddie would die if that happened. “He won’t reject the bite, he’s a fighter,” she said, doing her best to make her voice sound confident even though she didn’t actually feel that way right now. “Come on Eddie, don’t leave us,” she breathed, her eyes fixed on her brother as she waited to see what was going to happen. The whole day felt like a nightmare that Eddie wanted nothing more than to wake up from. Ada had literally dragged him into some sick game of hide and seek and before it had even started his parents had bitten into his neck and drank some of his blood. It sounded crazy and if he didn’t have the bite marks to prove it then Eddie knew that he wouldn’t have believed it either but right now he was fighting for his life and he had perhaps the unlikeliest of allies in Robbie. It had never been any secret to Eddie that his older brother hated him and all of the other adopted kids, he had made that clear right from the start but Robbie had been helping him hide while Ada and their brother had been searching the house for him. Moving around from place to place without being seen wasn’t easy and Eddie couldn’t blame the other adopted kids for keeping out of sight in case they ended up being dragged into the game too but right now the attention was on him and the truth was that he wanted nothing more than to disappear and put this all behind him. He wasn’t sure how long he had actually managed to remain undetected for but it felt like a lifetime. Eventually his mom’s voice called out telling him that it was safe for him to come out because the game was over. Eddie couldn’t explain why but those words were enough to make him feel uneasy and he stayed where he was. They had made it clear that they were going to kill him when they caught him and he knew that he didn’t want to tempt fate by revealing himself now. He could hear his parents and siblings moving through the house looking for him and he did his best to stay quiet. Thankfully by now the bleeding had stopped but he was still covered in blood and between the lack of food and the loss of blood he felt weaker than he had done in a long time. Keeping to the shadows, Eddie was half way to his next hiding place when a hand shot out and grabbed him by the throat, pinning him to the wall and squeezing tight. The hand around his throat threatened to cut off his air supply completely and his eyes widened in terror as he struggled to fight against his dad’s grip. “You’re smarter than your sister was, I’ll give you that. You didn’t fall for the line about the game being over but you’re still going to meet the same fate she did,” he smirked and those words alone were enough to make Eddie double his efforts to escape the man’s grasp. It wasn’t long before his mom joined them and the look on her face as she slashed her nails through the skin of his stomach was one that he knew he would never forget. Had he been able to then he would have let out a scream of pain but as it was he was starting to see spots at the edges of his vision and his limbs were starting to become heavy. It was only when his dad dropped him to the floor that he was able to breathe again and Eddie coughed and spluttered, one hand easing over the skin of his throat as he tried to get his breath back while the other applied pressure to the wounds on his stomach as he tried to stop the bleeding. He needed to run, he wanted to run, but before he could even get to his feet hands were on him again holding him tightly in place and he realised that his parents were on either side of him once more. “Time to end this once and for all but we can’t say it wasn’t fun,” his mom said and Eddie squeezed his eyes tightly shut as he tried to brace himself for what was to come. This time a scream did escape his lips as his parents tore into his neck and started drinking his blood and Eddie found himself wishing that the end would come soon so this whole nightmare would be over. As it was he was barely conscious as his body hit the floor, what little blood he had left spilling onto the floor. He had heard Robbie trying to stop their parents but it hadn’t worked but it was an unfamiliar voice that called his name after that. He tried to open his eyes but even that was a struggle and he was vaguely aware of voices before fresh pain came, this time from his arm. Eddie didn’t even have the strength to cry out this time but as his arm fell to his side something strange started to happen. Slowly but surely it felt like his strength was beginning to return to him and on the outside his wounds were starting to heal. Eddie wasn’t sure how much time had passed before he was able to open his eyes but when he did he could see the familiar faces of Robbie, Daniel and Summer along with some faces he didn’t recognise. Without even thinking about it he pushed himself up into a sitting position, letting his back rest against the wall as he looked up at them. “What happened?” he asked, unable to deny that he felt completely disoriented right now. – I freed myself from words never said –
Jed nodded his head in a sympathetic manner because it definitely sounded like one. They deserved to have a fair shot at a normal life but with their parents in their lives, it would be nearly impossible to do so. He would have to deal with their parents in order to get them the hell out of that house. "Oh, yeah. I couldn't believe it at first, honestly, but my father wasn't the, uh, joking type, so I knew he wasn't lying about any of what he was saying." Jed explained with a quick nod of his head following. "You guys are taking it pretty well, though. Trust me, I've seen worse reactions." Jed added a moment later, turning his attention back to them. "I'm two seconds away from passing out, trust me, deep down, I'm not handling this well at all. But I guess a part of me always knew that they weren't – normal. I just thought they were a little cuckoo in the head, s'all." Daniel explained, his voice wavering a little bit, his bottom lip momentarily caught between his teeth as he began to nervously gnaw at the flesh until he could taste blood in his mouth. "I'm sorry you guys had to find out like that. Or had to experience any of this, to begin with." Jed had never felt such an overwhelming urge to protect someone before until he stumbled across Summer and Daniel. He knew that they were battling against the merciless ticking of the clock. He knew that time wouldn't slow for any of them. It was a race he didn't want to lose.
"Yeah, that's essentially what they did." Jed confirmed, though his tone remained sympathetic because it can't be easy to know that your parents are capable of doing something so horrible. "That's definitely how compulsion works. It prevents you from doing things and in this case, they compelled you to not tell anyone about the situation back at home, that's why you couldn't get any help." Jed explained. Honestly, Jed wasn't a big expert when it came to vampire stuff. He was more into werewolf lore than vampire lore, but he was trying his best to explain everything that he knew to Daniel and Summer. "I'm not sure that there is. But, if I had to make a guess, I'd say that they didn't know how to compel you guys properly. Your parents sound like rookie vampires and even though they are scary, there's no way they have a grasp on how to properly compel people just yet. Think of it as a baby trying to walk. They can get on their feet and they can wobble to you, but they can't properly walk yet. So, just because the baby's on its feet doesn't mean its walking properly, does that make sense? I'm not sure I nailed it with the analogy there, but, yeah... Just because they compelled you guys to not talk about the situation back at home that day, doesn't mean they've compelled you to never talk 'bout it."
"Shit, same here. Anywhere will do. Just not in that goddamn house. It's my first time outside and I can't even enjoy it." Daniel said with an exasperated sigh falling from his lips. Honestly, the outside world didn't excite him as much as it scared the shit out of him. He spent so long looking at the world through the cracks that he's not sure how to take it all in now that he's outside.
Jed turned his attention to Summer when she asked what was going on. He explained shortly after that he was a werewolf and he had just bitten Eddie to turn him into a werewolf too, if his body doesn't reject the bite, that is. "Yeah. I don't want to overwhelm you guys with all the details, but, just know that werewolves and vampires aren't the only supernatural beings that exist in this world." Jed explained, his attention shifting back to Eddie to check on how he was doing. "This is so fucked up." Robbie spoke up as he approached Eddie too. One look at his face and everyone was able to tell that he was concerned for Eddie's well-being.
Jed really hoped that he hadn't just deprived a family of their brother. "C'mon, kiddo..." Jed mumbled under his breath, his eyes on Eddie. Seeing him begin to wake up immediately eased some of the tension collected in Jed's shoulders. He reached out instinctively to help Eddie move but the younger did fine on his own as he leaned his back against the wall, looking far from well. For now. "Hey there, you worried us for a sec," Jed spoke up, his smile turning friendly.
"About that... I'm sorry, kiddo, you were losing a lot of blood. I had to do something to save you. Otherwise, you would've died before the ambulance could reach us." Jed explained carefully, his eyes focused on Eddie's, watching him carefully. "I'll explain everything, but first, you must be feeling pretty disoriented right now, huh? Let's focus on getting you to feel well again before doing the, uh, heavy talk. How 'bout that?"

Summer had known that there was something off with her parents for a long time but she had never imagined what it was that they were really doing. It had never made sense to her that they had been happy to let her and her biological siblings go outside after their brother died but not their adoptive siblings, the whole thing had been so messed up and she had tried talking to her parents about it more times than she cared to count but she could never remember the outcome of those conversations. She was only young when her parents changed so she hadn’t really known what was going on but she knew now that she should have taken more notice of the jokes some of her siblings had made about them being vampires. At the time she hadn’t thought that there was any way that it could be true but now they knew and she was determined not to let their parents hurt any of them again. “I’m with Daniel, I knew there was something wrong with them as well but I never thought they were capable of any of this,” Summer admitted. “It all sounds crazy but our siblings are going to be looking to us for answers so we have to hold it together.” It was disgusting honestly and she couldn’t understand how her parents could treat kids they were supposed to love that way. She really wasn’t sure how they were going to be able to hold it together long enough to explain to their siblings and make them understand but she knew that they had to try. “You have nothing to apologise for, you’re the one who is helping us and who opened our eyes to what our parents have been doing.”There was still so much that Summer didn’t understand but she knew that she was going to have to learn as much as she could about them. She had never liked the way her parents had treated their siblings and even though she knew that there was every chance that Daniel and the others who had been adopted into the family might want to get as far away from her and the other biological kids once this was all over, she knew that she still needed to know what they were going to be up against with their parents. “That’s crazy. How could anyone do that to their own kids?” Summer asked, the shock evident in her voice even though deep down she knew that she really shouldn’t be that shocked considering the way they had treated Daniel and the others. “It never made sense before but now it does,” Summer admitted, glad that she had an explanation for why she hadn’t been able to tell anyone about what was going on at home at least. As Jed explained about their parents, Summer found herself nodding. “That does make sense. I’m glad they don’t know how to compel properly because I think it would be a very different story if they did,” she nodded. If they had known that they could compel their kids never to talk about what was going on or never to leave the house then she didn’t doubt that they would have done it so it was a good thing that they didn’t know what they were doing. Summer wasn’t at all surprised when Daniel said that anywhere other than that house would suit him. He and the other adopted kids had had it much worse than she and her biological siblings had done so she couldn’t blame him for wanting to get out of there at all. “Do you think we’ll all be able to stay together?” she asked, not sure whether he’d thought that far ahead yet or not. The situation at the house was so much worse than Summer had thought that it would be but she couldn’t deny that she was glad that Jed was there with them. He seemed to have meant it when he’d said that he could help but now they had to play the waiting game to see whether the bite would take. “I wish I could say I’m surprised but I’m not,” Summer admitted as Jed said that vampires and werewolves weren’t the only supernatural beings that existed. As Robbie said that it was fucked up, Summer nodded. “It is,” she agreed before turning to look at her brother. One look at Robbie’s expression was enough to make her heart ache because she could see just how concerned he was about Eddie and that was something that she hadn’t expected from him. She and Robbie hadn’t always seen eye to eye but it seemed that they did on this. Finally Eddie woke up and Summer let out the breath she’d been holding, relieved to see that his eyes were open and that he was talking. “Hey,” she said, a relieved smile forming on her face as she crouched down next to Eddie and placed her hand on his shoulder. “It’s okay, you’re safe now,” she assured him. “This is our friend Jed, he came to help,” she added, not wanting her brother to worry about the fact that there was someone in the room that he didn’t recognise. Eddie had never thought that this would be his life, while he was growing up his whole family had been crowded into a couple of apartments in the same block but they had been happy being so close to each other. After they all died he had never thought that he would get the chance to have a family like that again but then the Roswells had adopted him and they’d given him a second chance at having a family. He had quickly come to realise that it perhaps wasn’t a family that he wanted to be a part of after all but he hadn’t had a choice in the matter so all he had been able to do was try and make the best of it. It wasn’t all bad, there were some members of the family that he got along with like Daniel and Summer and even Robbie had come through for him in his time of need. That was something that Eddie hadn’t expected from his brother but it was enough to make him think that perhaps Robbie wasn’t so bad after all. As it was his was one of the faces that Eddie saw when he opened his eyes and he could see how concerned his brother was so he knew that he needed to start giving him more of a chance. Pushing himself up into a sitting position, Eddie felt a little better with his back pressed against the wall but he could tell that there was still something going on and as the memory of his parents feeding on him came flooding back to him his eyes widened in alarm and his hand flew to his neck searching for the wounds they had created. His hand came away clean but out of the corner of his eye he could see dried blood on his clothes so he hadn’t imagined the whole thing despite the fact that the wounds seemed to be gone somehow. Looking up at the unfamiliar boy who seemed to be around his age, Eddie nodded as Summer introduced him as Jed. “I was worried myself for a while,” he admitted. Truth be told he had felt terrified in a way that he had never felt before. They say that when you’re about to die your whole life flashes before your eyes but it wasn’t like that for Eddie, all he had seen was darkness but he’d still found himself wishing for the end so he at least wouldn’t have to endure the pain of being fed on or go back to being starved like he had been before. As Jed said he’d had to do something to save him since he would have died before the ambulance got there, Eddie glanced at his siblings to find Summer nodding. “It’s true,” she confirmed and his breath caught in his throat. “What did you have to do?” he asked, not sure whether he was going to like the answer to that question but needing to know nonetheless. As Jed said they should focus on getting him feeling well again before talking more, Eddie shook his head. “Please, just tell me. I need to know.”JED SALTZMAN

– I freed myself from words never said –
Jed nodded his head as he listened to the siblings explain that they weren't in fact taking it all too well, but they had always had a feeling that there was something wrong with their parents. Jed truly didn't blame them when even though they felt like something was wrong they didn't think they were vampires or capable of doing something so awful to those own kids. "That's completely understandable." Jed nodded his head, a sympathetic expression crossing over his features. They sounded like amazing siblings to have. The way they were looking out for their other siblings, getting ready to have all the answers for the tons of questions their siblings would have. Jed would be more than happy to help out with that task if they needed his help. "It's the least that I can do, really." Someone had to bring them to the light and if that someone had to be him, then so be it. He'll do everything he can to help out.
"Some people are just not meant to be parents. Sounds like your parents were one of those." The same sympathetic expression was still glued onto Jed's face, his eyes resting on Summer and Daniel once again. He was glad that at least his explanation had made sense and helped them understand as he noticed the way that Daniel agreed with Summer's words. He didn't want to overwhelm them but he also didn't want to keep them in the dark, they had been living in the dark for way too long from what he understood.
"I don't know, Summer. Maybe..." It was difficult to know since each sibling had a different mindset, but he hoped that they would stay together. It would be a lot safer for them that way.
Jed's expression softened as Summer made it clear that she wasn't surprised that vampires and werewolves weren't the only supernatural creatures to exist. Robbie's attention drifted to Summer when she agreed with him, his lips pressing into a thin line. It seemed like all his effort to keep his sibling hidden from their parents and siblings had been in vain as his worried gaze drifted back on Eddie, his stomach twisted in knots. Jed, in the meantime, had half-shifted so that he could leave a bite before shifting back. From there, it was a grueling wait as he watched for any signs of Eddie's body rejecting the bite. But then he surprised Jed, pleasantly so, by waking up. Jed's relief was visible in the sigh that he let out and the way his shoulders sagged. "Hi." Jed waved a little when Summer introduced him, his lips stretching into a small but friendly smile, though the smile faltered when Eddie made it clear that he wanted to know what he had done. "Okay, I'll tell you." Jed assured him with a quick nod following.
"I'm a werewolf, Eddie. Those exist, yes. I had to turn you into a werewolf in order to save your life. It was the only way. I'm sorry." Jed's eyes searched Eddie's face to gauge his reaction. "You were losing a lot of blood and waiting for the ambulance wasn't an option. I had to do it. You... would've died otherwise."

Summer couldn’t believe that this was even happening right now, she had known that something was off with her parents ever since her older brother died but in the end it had just become the norm. She had grown used to the way she was never allowed to bring friends over to the house or talk about what was going on at home and she had taken to doing as much to help her adoptive siblings as she could. She snuck them food and Eddie liked to borrow her school books so he could try and go over what she was learning since they were around the same age but she knew that it wasn’t anywhere near enough. It felt like a miracle that Daniel had been able to leave the house that day but if she was honest she was glad that he had been able to because she really wasn’t sure that she would have been able to do any of this on her own. She knew they were lucky that Jed had been passing by and had overheard what they were talking about and now they just had to hope that he would be able to save Eddie like he seemed to think that he would. “If you don’t mind me asking, how did you find out about all of this?” Summer asked, knowing that she wouldn’t be offended if Jed didn’t want to talk about it. It was all so much to take in so she was curious about how he had found out about it to say the least. As he said that it was the least he could do, Summer shook her head. “You’ve done so much for us already. You told us what was really going on with our parents and you believed us even after the police officer looked at us like we were crazy. We owe you a lot,” she admitted. She wasn’t sure why Jed had decided to do so much for them but she wouldn’t be surprised if it was just because he was that kind of person. He hadn’t hesitated in offering to help them and Summer was so grateful to him for that. “They weren’t always like this. Before my brother died they were great parents. Something changed in them after that though and they became monsters.” How anyone could take in so many kids just to have them as their own personal bloodbags really was beyond her and she had no idea how they were meant to explain that to their siblings but she knew that they were going to have to try. She would never forget the look on the officer’s face when they had told him what was going on at home, he had looked at them like they were crazy and she wouldn’t be surprised if their siblings ended up mirroring that expression but they had to try and make them understand. If she was honest she wouldn’t blame her adopted siblings if they wanted to get as far away from the rest of them as possible and it was clear that Daniel wasn’t sure how they would react either. “Do you want to leave?” she asked, not sure whether he would decide to head out on his own when all was said and done or whether he would stick around. She hoped he would stay but she really wouldn’t blame him if he didn’t. All Summer could do was watch as Jed bit Eddie and then they had the agonising wait to see if he was going to wake up or not. Her heart was in her mouth as she looked down at her brother and it was only when he started to stir that she felt like she could breathe again. She could see the confusion on Eddie’s face as Jed told him what had happened and her heart really did go out to him. JED SALTZMAN

Eddie really had thought that he was going to die. His parents had seemed to take pleasure in his pain and Ava hadn’t been any better. She hadn’t hesitated in trying to find him so that she could hand him over to their parents even knowing what they were going to do to him. Robbie had surprised him by trying to help him hide and it had worked for a while but deep down Eddie had always known that it was only a matter of time until he was found and their parents got what they wanted. He had known that something was off the moment he had arrived at the Roswell house but he had quickly ended up getting used to their new normal. He had never completely believed the story they had told them about it being too dangerous for them to go outside especially when the biological kids were able to go about their lives as they pleased but he had known that trying to question it wouldn’t do any good either. They had seemed set in their decision that the rest of them were to remain inside the house at all times and there had been strange things that had happened over the years, stranger even than them not being allowed to go outside and practically being starved, but for some reason Eddie could never pinpoint what those were. It was like his memories had been wiped. That was how it had been when the world had faded to black around him anyway, now it was a completely different story. Now all of those memories were coming flooding back to him and he knew that it would take time for him to piece them all together but right now he needed to know what had happened. Jed was the one who answered and Eddie’s eyes went wide as the guy spoke. “I’m a werewolf?” he repeated, hardly able to believe it. It felt like this just had to be a bad dream or something but the pain he had felt before he’d passed out had been all too real and as he looked up at Daniel and Summer he could see just how worried about him they had been, Robbie too. “It’s okay, I get it,” he added at last as Jed apologised. “The way they tore into my neck like that, I know I would have been a goner if not for you.” Just the fact that he was alive right now felt like a miracle and even though Eddie had no idea what any of this meant for him now, he was at least grateful to be alive. “Thank you,” he added sincerely as he looked up at Jed. “So what happens now? Where are our parents?” he asked, instantly feeling a little scared at the thought of them still being around somewhere. The biological kids might be safe from their wrath but he and the other adopted kids weren’t and Eddie knew that he didn’t want any of them getting hurt the way he had been earlier that day.
