The only person who had stuck around for all this time was her brother. Everyone else had died, abandoned her or simply disappeared. Tristan had no choice but to stand by her side year after year, century after century. It was their eternal vow to another one, which rang so close to what the original family stood for. They were better than the Mikealsons though. There was a frown on her face when her phone lit with a message from Sofia, inviting her over for drinks. It was just above a message from Tristan. Apparently Tristan was on his way back to Mystic Falls though which was both a relief but also a nuisance. She started to think that her brother had finally had enough of her and turned his back on her, leaving her to self-destruct on her own. It was a ludicrous thought. Tristan would never do such a thing, but doubt entered her mind constantly. Now she faced the challenge to keep Damien away from Tristan, at all costs. She refused to let him sabotage yet another relationship of hers because he was terrified of losing his youngest sibling. She didn’t really know what title belonged to her and Damien anyway. It had been over a year since she knocked his drink out of his hand and she’d be infatuated with him since. She had even managed to keep her mood swings at bay so Damien was none the wiser that there were a few mismatched connections in that brain of hers. After all, she didn’t want to scare him off but now her brother was on his way there was a chance he could bolt the opposite way once he met the over-protective violent sibling. She knew what Sofia meant by ‘drinks’. A human would no doubt be involved, somehow. Truthfully, Aurora thought that her friend was dead, having lost contact with her a few months ago. The last exchange of messages between them was about Sofia inviting some friends over for dinner, and asking Aurora to join. Realistically she had been so busy with Damien that she hadn’t so much as cast a second thought to Sofia. Reading back through the messages she was hit with a wave of guilt, thinking she should have reached out to her friend sooner given she turned to Aurora for guidance. She wasn’t exactly an ideal vampire to turn to for advice. She didn’t give much concern to human life and certainly didn’t aim to keep her victims alive as others did. Her only advice to Sofia was to welcome what she was. If that meant killing a few people along the way then so be it. She sent two messages. One to Sofia to say she’d be over soon and another to Damien telling him she was meeting up with an old friend, Sofia, that evening. She didn’t bother replying to her brother. Aurora arrived at Sofia’s just after 8 pm. There was already a message from her friend telling her to come straight in when she arrived, with no invisible barrier holding her out of the house. No smell of blood lingering in the air which was a disappointment. “Evening.” She called out, closing the door behind her as she stepped into the property. The place was quiet. “Sofia?” Aurora slipped off her coat, hanging up on the coat rack nearby before walking through into the living room. CHRISTIAN CALLAWAY

━ let death fear you ━ ALIX’S WARNING DINGED STEADILY in the back of Christian’s mind. However, those were thoughts far too rational for his current state. He was angry, and wanted to avenge his wife or tarnish her memory or… somehow make right everything she’d done wrong. His reasoning was unclear, unlike with the professor, which didn’t spark any new confidence.
He was sure this one was a murderer just like his dead wife, or the monster she became. He had solid evidence that he’d collected himself, no relying on some unknown source for it. Or known, perhaps, since Alix seemed to have a better inkling of what was happening under the surface.
In more ways than one.
Sometimes he still couldn’t believe it. He appreciated her honesty, though he wasn’t sure if it hurt more or as much as Sofia’s secret. Perhaps the initial shock and the fact that it was so soon after his wife’s death made it seem just as bad, but Alix wasn’t his partner. He’d shared a life with Sofia, years of marriage, and she’d withheld truths like it meant nothing━like she couldn’t trust him. And maybe she couldn’t… considering where she’d ended up.
So he beckoned her other vampire friend to the house he planned to sell soon, once Sofia’s Missing Person case went cold and the police lost interest. Every time he felt unclean for what he’d done, he reminded himself of how she’d painted these very walls with innocent blood.
Christian knew the woman. He’d met her once before, unknowingly inviting her into his home and effectively removing any barriers. She could come and go as she pleased. It worried him until he devised a plan.
Hidden from view behind the wall, to the left of the upper staircase, Christian waited with a plethora of weapons, namely the crossbow heavy in his hands. Christian assumed he was totally prepared for this faceoff. If not, then he’d die doing what was right.
His whole body went rigid as she entered, trying to keep his breathing quiet and under control. He gave her a few seconds to settle, then spun out from behind the wall, immediately dropped to a knee and shot one wooden bolt towards the spot between her shoulder blades. Standing and performing a quick reload, Christian rushed halfway down the stairs and stopped, trying to keep the high ground. His home had become a warzone, though the blame still lay with Sofia.

Gaining trust from Aurora was difficult unless you were a man who was promising the world to her, then she was ready to let down every single barrier in an instant. Anything to be loved by another. She was willing to dive in front of danger if it meant a slither of affection from a man. All you had to do was feed her a few compliments and tell her you to envision a future with her. It had happened countless times over the years, yet she still didn’t learn her lesson. Her brother or Lucien was left picking up the pieces of her shattered heart each time. Sometimes it was possible to force the pieces back together but other times she would be sectioned for her own safety. It was just another reason not to tell Tristan about Damien. He would destroy their relationship, insisting it was for the best while reminding her that she was ‘unwell’. A sick child who needed nursing back to full health because they were allowed into the world. Her brother wasn’t stupid. He knew there was no cure for her bipolar. Beneath it all, he was just an older brother trying to protect his younger sister but she couldn’t take the risk of telling him about Damien otherwise her days with the reaper would have been numbers. Her guard was lowered when she entered the house, even when she noticed there was no sight of Sofia. There was something breathing nearby. Possibly a human she had dragged into her home. A welcome gift for Aurora. Waiting for her friend to arrive until she opened a vein. The mere thought of it had that familiar hunger rise inside her. The same feeling she’d had for over a thousand years. One which she knew how to control, unlike Sofia. Perhaps Aurora should take the first bite, knowing Sofia was bound to drain the human before Aurora had a chance. The sound of the arrow slicing through the air was missed as reached to hang her coat up. A wooden arrow lodged between her shoulder blades, nearing the side her heart lay. She spun around, one hand trying to reach behind her to grab the arrow. “That is no way to greet a guest.” She couldn’t quite reach the arrow so Aurora gave up letting her hand fall to her side. It was a man with a familiar face kneeling on the stairs. Sofia’s husband. Then she remembered he was a hunter. A person who hated vampires. “It is brave of you to challenge me.” A weak feebly human. There was a smirk forming on her face as she looked up at him. Pathetic, but this was her friend’s husband. The love of her life. Whilst every muscle was twitching to snap his neck, she told herself to remain calm. She didn’t want to snatch away Sofia’s husband. “You have five seconds to lower your weapon and tell me where Sofia is or I will be forced to retaliate.” She kept her eyes locked on him, ignoring the arrow hanging out of her back. “Five, four, three, two…”CHRISTIAN CALLAWAY

━ let death fear you ━ HIS HEART THUMPED RAPIDLY IN HIS CHEST, sending a whooshing through his ears that Christian figured would give away his location. Or, at the very least, he wouldn’t be able to hear anything. Not his target’s approach, or even the wince as his arrow landed where he needed it to. Christian couldn’t hear the sweet sound of the wood slicing through the stagnant air of his home, but he did hear it pierce her flesh. Silently thanking whatever power kept his hands steady enough to land the shot, Christian reloaded and went halfway down, hoping those skills would stick with him for at least another go.
He had to win this. To beat her. It felt like a win against Sofia, or for Sofia━a win for a hunter against this disgusting, invasive species. Aurora would never endanger or turn another human again.
Despite an arrow hanging out of her back, the vampire smirked at Christian, even spoke back to him. Challenged him. They really weren’t human. They were just things. Things meant to be eradicated.
One hazel eye peered steadily through the sight on his crossbow, fingers itching to release another bolt. Christian took a long, slow breath that seemed to go on forever, though she hadn’t reached ‘one’ even as he exhaled. In a moment, instead of firing another wooden bullet, he snatched a vervain bomb━one that was clipped into his belt━and tossed it at her, waiting for the thing to go off. Just after throwing it, Christian’s hand snapped back to the trigger and released another bolt. He’d aimed for her heart, but slipped and shot a little higher, sending the arrow towards her shoulder.
Perhaps it was on purpose. Perhaps he wanted answers before he rid the world of another beast, just a few minutes with the woman who knew Sofia better than he did━apparently. He’d known his wife since she was a teenager and somehow Aurora━who’d met her in what was a moment compared to the years he had━knew more than Christian ever did. It was that, on top of the betrayal and everything else, that made him so bitter towards her.
“She’s dead.” He snapped, feeling the bile crawl up his throat at the admission, “She’s gone because of what you made her. My wife is dead, and you’ll be next. It’s your life in exchange for the countless others that can be saved━all the victims, whose lives you haven’t yet taken, will be spared.” Dear God, he hoped that was true. He hoped he had enough training and pure luck to not only survive this, but to be victorious against her.

The moment the arrow pierced her back, rage stirred inside of her, but mainly towards herself. Should she have noticed the texts she had received weren’t from Sofia? Had her ‘friend’ lured her into a trap? There was no logic to this and there was a bite of sadness when she considered the idea that Sofia wanted to hurt her. Kill her even. Had this been her plan all along and Aurora had failed to see through it? She was too wrapped up in the idea that maybe she’d found a friend in the empty town. Despite her warning, it didn’t look like he was going to lower his weapon. An apology to Sofia would be necessary after she finished killing the hunter. She considered Sofia a friend, but not to the point she was willing to spare her husband’s life and risk her own. In fact, there was barely anyone who reached that threshold. The only people who sprung to mind were Tristain and Damien. Naturally, she was willing to put her life on the line for her brother, but no doubt she would do the same for Damien. If only Tristain could hear her thoughts he would drag her away from the small town. Away from Damien because he wouldn’t allow her to fall in love in case it all ended in heartbreak, pushing Aurora into darkness. She’d just made it to one when he threw something towards her, which exploded as soon as it hit the ground. A burning sensation overwhelmed her senses, causing her to cough harshly as she stepped backwards trying to avoid the smoke. Vervain. The man was no novice hunter which was further confirmed when she felt the wooden arrow rip through her skin. Inches above her heart. Too close for comfort. No apology would be needed as Sofia was dead. She’d offer her condolences but it sounded like they weren’t needed. “Made her?” Aurora exclaimed, squinting to see through the smoke that was starting to clear, but her eyes remained red and irritated. Water streamed down her cheeks as she tried to wipe away the burn. His little speech sounded like something straight out of the movies, so inspiring. “If you believe I turned Sofia then you are mistaken.” Had her friend filled her husband’s head full of lies before she died? Perhaps in a feeble attempt to lay some blame on Aurora for the countless bodies, Sofia had dropped throughout Mystic Falls. “Your wife was already a vampire when I met her. One who was unable to control herself... I suspect that caused some problems in your marriage.” Sofia never mentioned whether or not her husband knew about what she was, “I hope your vows did not slip your mind when you found out the truth... for better and for worse.” She couldn't imagine hating a species so much that she was prepared to turn her back on someone she loved. ━ let death fear you ━ SOMEHOW, EACH BLOW THAT LANDED DIDN’T satisfy him. Christian thought he’d find comfort in taking her down, as though he could avenge his wife’s humanity and their marriage (and himself) all at once. It wasn’t working, however, which only made him want to try harder. The vervain bomb did its job, but Aurora dropped her own bomb, one that had him hesitating. He’d been under the impression this was Aurora’s doing, that she’d help breed the monster his wife became, but it was possible he was incorrect.
Monsters will do anything to save their own skin, he reminded himself, She isn’t necessarily telling the truth. And yet her explanation had him thinking further back. It was more than likely Sofia could’ve held off on introducing him to her sire━she hid absolutely everything else from him━but would she have waited so many years? She had for her other secrets.
And there they went again, these evil things, worming their way into his mind. Vampirism was what killed his marriage; he wouldn’t let it murder him, too.
“I’m quite sure your influence didn’t aid her problem.” Christian growled back.
For better or for worse.
The words rang through his mind after Aurora spoke them, remembering their wedding day so clearly. He’d promised it, then she did, and he’d meant it. Honestly, he had. But when the person you loved turned into a ruthless killer, one who knew she deserved to die for her actions, it changed things. Christian supposed wedding vows never accounted for an altering of species.
She was still getting in his head. Christian tossed another bomb before reloading, sending the next bolt straight through her neck. It was then that he finally decided to rush forward and into the smoke, using this as his moment to stuff a vervain-soaked rag into Aurora’s mouth (also on the utility belt) and set up the spot where he’d kill her. Christian had intended to do it immediately, but he still had questions to ask, things to say, and they couldn’t be done if Aurora was dead.
With both hands wrapped around her arms, he maneuvered her into a chair, working quickly as he wasn’t sure how long she’d be out. His crossbow was set to the side, leaned against the TV stand as Christian pulled a chair from the dining room to the living room. Ropes were already stored nearby, pulled from their vervain bath and wrapped around Aurora’s torso and legs, binding her to the chair. He stepped away to give it all a once-over, then pulled the rag from her mouth and the arrow through her neck. He went the forward, without dragging the bolt's tip back through her flesh, though he was sure she’d heal from it either way.
Christian waited for her to wake, standing over the chair with the bloody bolt in his hand, glaring at Aurora. “You have to tell me more.” He demanded when he saw her gain consciousness, “When did you meet Sofia? What did you━who are you?” Christian snapped at the intruder, who seemed to appear out of nowhere, rushing sideways towards his crossbow, desperate to defend himself.

If running off the road into a tree at close to 80mph hadn’t stopped them, then why should death?
The woman’s shrill voice echoed in the tight confines of the shattered car. Damien flopped back in the back seat, squirming as the suitcase that had launched itself into the back of the woman’s seat, breaking her neck in the process, dug into his side. Her body was slumped over the dashboard now, although the woman didn’t seem to notice it. Her husband’s body was mostly out of the car now. Brand new boots projected back through the shattered windshield, his body crumpled on the equally crushed hood. The tree they’d hit loomed overhead, blocking out the moonlight, but he didn’t need it to see their spirits.
His expression apathetic, Damien sat and waited for one of them to take a breath – not that either had to now. He’d tried yelling ’hey!’ a half dozen times after he’d arrived, hadn’t worked a single time. Either they were deaf (that wouldn’t have been a shocker considering the way they screamed at one another), or they were so caught up in Aunt Marge’s cottage and who was going to be listed on the title to the place now they’d inherited that they literally didn’t know he was there. It wasn’t like he wanted to be.
Damien huffed out a breath, rearranging his legs in the tight space to get a little more comfortable for what seemed like it would be a long night. Would Death just send someone else if he blipped out of there right now? Knowing his luck, if he did, it would be Elias, taking the lack of movement on this reaping as some failing on his part. The image of Elias wedging himself forward between the seats to counsel these two into taking his hands for the short ride to hell had him laughing out loud. Oh, that had the woman twitching, although there was barely a hitch in her voice as she reminded poor Robbie that he hadn’t been half as close to his own aunt as she had been. He guessed Aunt Marge had a thing for mouthy harpies who browbeat their husbands.
The phone buzzed in his pocket – a human trapping in a car that had become the battlefield for people who couldn’t lay claim to the title anymore. Aurora. In an instant the sound of Annie’s nerve grating voice grew muffled. The messages had been a meandering stream since he’d been called to pick up the biker she’d dropped after their first night together, a touchstone for him in a town that only held two – Aurora and Sonny. The job? This he could’ve done anywhere, Mystic Falls couldn’t be the only place with an endless stream of souls to reap. The two of them were unique in a world where everything else he’d been sure about had been stripped away by random tragedy and that black eyed thing that still had its claws in his brother.
While Annie went to swipe at her husband, Damien tapped a message back, asking Aurora to let him know when she was heading out. If this was the last job of the night he’d swing by to get her, to sink back out of this misery and into that strata of his life where the job didn’t matter, only losing himself in those deep green eyes did.
”What happened?” The voice was muted now, shocky. Oh yeah, he knew what that was like.
Damien slipped the phone into his pocket, looking up to find Annie looking back at him. Her eyes were blown wide open, her hands shaking as she realised her own dead body was practically sitting in her lap. The argument had finally petered out without his involvement. Hallelujah.
Craning forward between the seats, Damien offered the husband and wife a smile. ”Congratulations, you’re both dead. I guess Aunt Marge is gonna have some company. Maybe. I’m your reaper for this evening, and, luckily, you have a choice …” The spiel tripped out, a little brighter at the edge out of absolute gratitude for this not taking all night.
Still, it was a while before they both decided to go – he hadn’t been about to tell them they both had an eternity in hell ahead of them (didn’t anybody tell you it was a mortal sin to cheat on your wife, Robbie?). The lights of emergency vehicles were approaching by the time he got back to the car. Damien slipped his hand into his pocket, imagining he’d find another text to Aurora he’d have to apologise for missing. Nothing. No update.
Something like the luggage lodged under his diaphragm. There was plenty of trouble in this town, and not just of the sort that killed back drivers. He skimmed over the address she’d been going to again, cursed out loud as he recognised it. The bloodbath. Fuck.
One moment the man in the suit was standing there at the edge of the road, perfectly visible to the cops, the next there was nothing but the shattered car and its two still occupants.
The house seemed just as still and quiet this time. Damien appeared just inside the front door. He paused there on the threshold., breathing shallowly as he waited for the tinkle of female laughter he doubted was coming. A second later it was a man’s voice lashing out instead, demanding to be told more. The scent of blood was in the air, as familiar now as anything. Not even a heartbeat passed and he was out of the hallway and into the living room, appearing between a bound and seated Aurora and the grieving husband. ”I wouldn’t if I were you,” Damien growled. ”Is that what you used on her? Your wife I mean. You know … I should’ve caught on to the address before, although we don’t really get the house number when we come knocking.” They followed that invisible wire there, only gleaning small details. The husband had been one of them, rushing in as he’d been dealing with his wife’s victims. Human him might’ve stopped the guy killing his wife, but the rules on his job were perfectly clear, its not your business, don’t interfere.
Without turning his head more than a fraction, Damien tried to get a look at Aurora. There was the blood, staining her clothing, the ropes raising smoke from her skin like steam. Hurt by this guy, who was determined, apparently, to find out how his wife had gone from Little Miss Perfect to a blood sucker all without him noticing. ”Aurora, are you alright? How badly did he hurt you?” There was a tightness to his voice, one that threatened to snap. The crossbow wasn’t going to do the guy any good then, not that it would now. Reapers were a little beyond human weapons.

Lying wasn’t something she partook in. Generally, she spoke the truth, sometimes too much of the truth for some, often throwing cutting words and honest statements at people. Sofia’s husband didn’t know this and Aurora was the only person within the vicinity to bear the blame for Sofia’s transgressions. “She knew exactly what she was doing. I was no influence on her, at all.” She insisted before letting out a quiet laugh, “If you need someone to blame then fair enough.” Whatever opinion this man had formed of her made no difference to her because she was certain he’d be dead soon. A thought that was bouncing around in her mind. There was a brief silence between the pair. He was still on the other side of the clearing smoke because she could hear his heart racing in his chest. Hard loud thuds into his ribcage, driving Aurora towards the decision to kill him. Rip his throat open, letting him bleed out on the floor of his matrimonial home that was an awful reminder of the wife he lost. Just as the smoke was starting to thin out and just as Aurora was about to make a dash for him, he threw another vervain bomb. “Stop hiding behind your weapons.” She called out as she stepped backward in an attempt to evade the smoke. Her throat had barely healed from the last bomb, but she was more determined than before to eliminate this idiot and his crossbow, but he’d beaten her to it. She felt the arrow pierce through her neck before she dropped to the floor. Aurora tried to reach up to pull the arrow from her neck but she was overcome by dizziness. The blood was seeping quickly from her neck. Too quickly for her to yank the arrow out and heal. Her hand fell to the floor as she was overcome by darkness. She didn’t expect to wake up in the man’s living room, tied to a chair, with him standing over her. Aurora’s eyes flickered open slowly as they focused on the man. The burning sensation from her throat and eyes had disappeared, but she could feel the same sensation on her wrists and legs, although it barely fazed her. “You are going to need more than a few ropes soaked in vervain to obtain answers from me.” Whatever she knew about the man’s wife was of no importance to her, but she was enjoying the fact he was desperate to know more. There was a smirk on her face as he started to ask questions about Sofia, but his interrogation was cut short by someone else. The smirk on her face grew into a genuine smile. She glanced up at him before his eyes darted over to Sofia’s husband. “This could have played out well for you if you had asked your questions nicely.” A please and thank you wouldn't have gone amiss. Her focus jumped back over to Damien as she frowned slightly. Did he know Sofia too? The frown disappeared as soon as Damien looked back at her. “No need to worry darling. He barely scratched the surface.” It was amateur actions compared to those she had endured over the years in physiatrist hospitals. They were places of true torture determined to slot her mind back into place. Back to normal, whatever the hell that was. CHRISTIAN CALLAWAY

━ let death fear you ━ CHRISTIAN HAD FAITH THIS WOULD GO HIS WAY. Keyword: had. It’d seemed promising at the start; the vervain bombs debilitated her, and the arrow through the neck was a promising blow. Now, with the ropes restraining Aurora’s arms and legs, he was sure he could carry out his plan. They should’ve seared her flesh every time she moved, effectively pinning her in place.
Apparently, he was the villain in the story who spoke too long. Christian didn’t see himself that way━not always, and certainly not now━but he wasn’t ignorant enough to think that they wouldn’t see him as one. He was the villain in their story, and he’d wasted too much time.
She had backup. He wasn’t sure where the man had come from or when, but he was dressed in a suit Christian’s mother would’ve approved of. It looked old-fashioned, well-made… and it only made Christian hate him more.
Darting for his weapon, he was ready to ignore the man’s threats, lifting the crossbow and pointing it at him. Christian would’ve released a bolt, too… if he hadn’t mentioned Sofia.
Pain struck him hard and fast, sending a rattle through Christian’s core. He wondered if she’d felt the same thing when death eventually overcame her, when she’d turned that blueish grey and left him behind forever. “You know nothing about what happened.” Christian snapped, though his finger trembled on the trigger. If he did, he’d know that Christian did everything he could, that it was Sofia’s choice as much as his own━that she was a monster.
With barely a glance in Aurora’s direction, Christian could tell she was happy to see this man. They were lovers, he presumed, and it turned his stomach to think that anyone could find something redeemable in a vampire… unless they were equally as evil. “There was no way I could speak nicely to someone like you.” He snapped, wishing that━no matter how hard things were between them right now━Alix would appear out of nowhere and be his own backup. He needed her now more than ever.
He barely scratched the surface.
Was she saving face or had Christian truly made no progress? The bubble in his chest grew larger, forcing him to clear his eyes with rapid blinking, still staring at the man through the crossbow’s sight. “I want to know when you turned her into a monster!” He shouted to Aurora, though his eyes remained on the man, growing hysterical now. “If it’s true you weren’t the one to make her a vampire, then when did she become… as she ended up? Why couldn’t she find control?” He asked, voice still raised, desperate to find some information, though he wasn’t sure what he’d do with it. Why did it matter, and what did it change? Was he just holding onto all the pieces of her he had left, or trying to justify his actions around the guilt he faced?

You didn’t stop to get a life story from the souls you scooped up – not unless you were Cory. Most of them were too rattled to provide it, or too self-absorbed (as tonight had proved), those that weren’t you hurried along. Always another soul to reap, you know what it’s like when work’s real busy, right? There’d been a handful of souls to scoop up in the house when he’d arrived that first time, the ones still clinging on a warning that he’d have to come back again and again, at least until the vampire’s current meal had finished. Elias might have huffed and puffed about the thing doing the killing – unnatural things seemed to bother him - but he wouldn’t go against Death’s orders not to interfere with the natural order of things. You shut your mouth and did your job and you didn’t answer questions.
Damien frowned behind the thick surround of his glasses and glanced around. The wife was still alive when he’d taken the last one anyway. Apparently only until the husband had arrived home. It seemed he had no issue with the natural order. Those things needed to be stamped out, tortured until the hellhounds arrived in their full flaming glory. Was that the same weapon he’d used on her, the one he’d used on Aurora? Damien’s eyes fixed on the blood smeared on her throat for a moment before he looked back at the husband. Damien snorted, dipping his hands up in the air for a moment like he was worried about the crossbow bolt. That was about 50 years too late and now it’d just piss him off.
The sigh rolled heavily out of him, his hands slipping back into his pockets for a moment. The husband could brush off the truth all he liked, it wasn’t going to make it disappear any faster. ”Considering I had to clean up the mess she’d left here, I’d say I had a pretty good idea. They all went…” He pulled a hand from his pocket to jab a thumb up towards the ceiling, metaphorically stabbing it in the sore spot that had to run right through the centre of this guy a second later. ”They don’t always, but your wife knew how to pick them.” And so did her husband, although he was soon gonna learn he’d made a mistake in trying to make Aurora pay for his wife’s crimes.
Guys like this were the reason so many had come close to getting killed in their robberies. Guys who thought that they were saintly enough that nothing was going to touch them. They were the ones on the straight and narrow, the ones destined for that trip upstairs, the ones that would get there sooner rather than later thanks to that saviour complex. ”That might be part of your problem,” Damien drawled tightly. ”You didn’t ask. One little please would’ve proved that your wife was the problem here.” He didn’t wanna hear that though. It was easier coping with what you had done when you’d believed it was for the greater good – that someone else was the villain in your little story.
His blue eyes had gone cold as they swivelled back from Aurora to the hunter at her reassurance. It was lucky for him he hadn’t. The hunter wouldn’t heal like Aurora would, one brush of his fingertip against that man’s skin and he’d be another soul to reap – and another lecture from Elias’ lips. ”You think you should’ve asked your wife all of that before you killed her? A little conversation can save a marriage you know.” Damien eased towards Aurora. He could break her out of them with a single touch, the two of them vanishing from the place. ”You screwed up here, for that, you’re gonna go without your answers. Enjoy not being able to settle your conscience. Let’s get out of here, get you somewhere safe,” he added softly. A foot from Aurora Damien reached out his hand, wrapping his other hers. One single heartbeat from vanishing now, leaving this guy alone to torture himself.

Aurora knew barely anything about Sofia’s marriage. She assumed they were happy though. Pictures of the loving couple were scattered amongst their home once, but she had barely made it past the front door to see whether those photos were still displayed or if he had discarded every single memory of his wife in some poor attempt of forgetting what she had become. She would have offered sympathy to the man if he hadn’t shot an arrow through her neck, presuming Aurora was the problem. The one who had dragged Sofia along with her, but he was so wrong. Sofia was usually the one doing the dragging and Aurora was more than happy to go along with it. Who was she to judge the man’s actions though? Love made people crazy, herself included. She committed suicide in the name of love, surrendering her human life and believing she was about to spend eternity with Klaus. A person who was nothing but a fading memory by now, replaced by her feelings for Damien. He’d proven to her he was a thousand times better for her compared to Klaus. For starters, he didn’t have a deluded family lurking in the shadows. More importantly, he was here to save her from the hunter. Sofia’s husband was desperate for answers, which rang through his voice as he yelled at Aurora like she held all the pieces of vital information he needed for closure. Damien was quick to bat away the questions though, insisting they were leaving the man behind to wallow in sadness. Comfort set in once he wrapped his hand around hers, but she wasn’t ready to vanish into thin air just yet. The tiniest shred of empathy started to scratch away at Aurora. “Wait.” She whispered to Damien, before drawing her attention back to the other man. “It was foolish of you to come after me especially because I do not hold the answers to your questions. All I know is she was turned at the hospital… vampires must learn control which can take months if not years… you did not give your wife the opportunity to exercise control.” It wasn’t easy to ignore those beating human hearts every second of every day. Aurora had been doing it for over a thousand years therefore she was considered an expert yet she didn’t offer any help to Sofia when she came asking for it. CHRISTIAN CALLAWAY - yeee last round

━ let death fear you ━ HE WANTED DESPERATELY TO SEND A BOLT through the vampire’s forehead and put an end to the woman who had turned Sofia. One through the other man would likely not work if he was to be believed. He’d only had the element of surprise in his favour, but facing the pair head-on? Christian was more than outnumbered.
Still, he was willing to die if it meant doing what was right. He wanted to know, though━before he died. He had to know.
He had been the one collecting them? And, if he was telling the truth, then they all went to Heaven? Christian didn’t miss the jab━they were all good people, and his wife had ended their lives.
He knew she was the problem. Christian didn’t deny that; he hadn’t pulled the wool over his eyes and pretended that Sofia was merely a victim of her circumstances. Sure, that was at play, but that wasn’t the whole truth. And perhaps part of him wanted something, someone to blame. The man in the suit wouldn’t award him that, though.
His heart continued to break. He’d wanted nothing more than to ask her what happened, but it was difficult to believe or even understand her in the situation. Christian hadn’t killed her as a spur-of-the-moment decision or even without thought or hesitation. He wanted to stay with Sofia, to make it work, but the decision was unanimous. She’d become a monster she couldn’t control, and it’d finally gotten out of hand.
It pained Christian to see how the man’s voice suddenly switched to gentle and calm when he spoke to his lover. He wondered, briefly, if he could’ve loved Sofia the same after seeing what she’d done, and he honestly couldn’t say.
“No, wait!” He choked, crossbow lowering a few inches due to his desperation.
Thankfully, it seemed Aurora wouldn’t leave him without any answers. Her mercy was surprising, but Christian soon realized he’d hoped for too much.
“She had years,” He argued, though he was on the cusp of tears. “Years to learn in silence. She agreed it was time when I found her,” Christian choked, though they were gone, and he was just as he’d be for perhaps the rest of his life━alone.
