Jake Stefan Avery

Meet Jake Stefan Avery, named after the father and grandfather that he has never met. He is the only child of JACOB SALVATORE and MARGARET AVERY although he was given his mother’s maiden name to protect him from the friends of the man who had killed his father.

Maggie found out that she was pregnant after news of Jacob’s death spread around her home town of East Ridge, Tennessee so he was raised by Maggie. She had to work in order to support them both so on the days when she couldn’t take him to the school where she worked as a teacher with her, he was looked after by some of her friends. Jake went to school when he was old enough but Maggie taught him at home some of the time too so he could get the best education he could. She also told him a lot of true stories about his father while he was growing up.

Maggie told Jake that she was a kitsune in case he ended up being the same but he turned out to be human like his father. They moved around a couple of times to make sure that no one noticed she wasn’t ageing and a friend Maggie had made went with them during their last move while Jake was a human. By that time she and Jake looked similar in age so they decided to pass themselves off as siblings instead to avoid drawing attention to themselves. Jake finished school, fell in love and got married. He and his wife had two children, a boy and a girl, and for the next few years he was happy. None of them had realised that there were vampires living in the town, though, and one of them decided to feed on Jake before feeding him their blood to heal him and compelling him to forget. Unfortunately the vampire drank too much as Jake died from blood loss with the vampire’s blood in his system and with the help of Maggie’s friend he completed the transition. He moved in with Maggie and her friend while he learned to control his bloodlust, they told his wife that he was sick and needed time to get better away from them to make sure that he wouldn’t pass the sickness on to them, but she refused to listen and insisted on seeing him. He almost lost control and fed on her but he managed to compel her to forget what had happened before deciding to compel her into thinking that he’d died. He didn’t want to leave her or the children but he didn’t want to hurt them either so he felt like he had no choice. Maggie’s friend stayed behind to look after Jake’s wife and children and he and Maggie moved away.

They travelled together for a while after that and sometimes went their own separate ways but they eventually always met up again. Jake occasionally tried to tell Maggie that it was okay if she wanted to move on from his dad but she was never interested. The two of them have decided to move to Mystic Falls so Jake can find out a little more about the Salvatore side of his family.

Jake and Maggie have always been close and still are to this day but other than that everything is open. Eventually Maggie will end up taking on the Salvatore surname when she and Jacob work things out but whether or not Jake chooses to do the same in the end is open.
