Josie’s head was full of memories that she knew weren’t actually real but the truth was that they still felt real to her. She and her sister Lizzie had been aged up overnight by a spell just like some other kids in Mystic Falls had and over the last year they’d had to learn how to live with knowing that they weren’t meant to be teenagers. It wasn’t easy but Josie had made her peace with it and now she knew that she just wanted to live her life and enjoy everything that it had to offer for as long as she could. In just a few months she would be starting her senior year and that was a scary thought in itself. She had no idea what she wanted to do when she graduated but right now she knew that it wasn’t the right time to worry about it. The summer had started and Josie was splitting her time between spending time with the people she cared about and volunteering at the local animal shelter. Josie knew that there were some people who saw summer jobs and volunteering as nothing more than a way of boosting their resumes but that wasn’t what she did it for, she had worked out a while ago that she wasn’t sure what she wanted to do after graduation so she hoped that by trying her hand at a few different things then she might just figure it out. She was having fun working at the shelter anyway especially since Hope had decided to join her there and she was looking forward to seeing what the rest of the summer was going to hold. Thankfully Josie hadn’t ended up getting caught sneaking back into the house after she and Hope decided to go for a late night swim because if she had been then she didn’t doubt that she probably wouldn’t have been able to go to the blacklight party at the Grill. She had never been to one before so she wasn’t entirely sure what to expect but she knew that it was open to everyone so she didn’t doubt that at least some of her family would end up putting in an appearance as well. As it was she had agreed to meet Hope there and it took her a while to decide on what she was going to wear but she finally settled on something that she hoped would work and with that done her dad dropped her off at the Grill since she knew that he didn’t like the idea of her walking through Mystic Falls on her own at night. She wasn’t helpless, in fact she was far from it, but she knew that he worried and she loved him for it so she was more than happy to put his mind at ease. He had told her that he and her mom might end up stopping by the party themselves later and Josie knew that it would be interesting to see what they made of it but right now she was more interested in seeing Hope. They had agreed to meet inside and after slipping the wristband onto her wrist to show that she was underage she made her way to the table that contained glowsticks that were meant to signify their relationship status. For a moment Josie’s hand hovered over the tub containing the green glowsticks since technically she was single but she didn’t want to lie about the fact that there was someone that she was interested in tonight so she took one of the orange glowsticks instead and cracked it to get it glowing before fastening it around her wrist. With that done she headed inside and had to do a double take as she stepped through the door. She had been to the Grill so many times but she had never seen it looking like this and she couldn’t deny that she was surprised at how great it looked. Taking a moment to appreciate that, she soon realised that there were already quite a few people there and she started moving through the crowd as she looked for her best friend. HOPE MIKAELSON

━ the heart wants what it wants━
Hope had agreed with Josie that they were going to meet at the Grill to join the others in the blacklight party. It wasn’t Hope’s scene, in particular, but she knew that she wasn’t going there alone and that Josie would be there to keep her company and make her feel comfortable, surrounded by other people and the loud music blooming in the background, enveloping all of them in a way that almost made it difficult to hear one another. But then again, in places like this, you don’t have to talk all that much. You just dance, right? Or at least, that’s what she heard. She had never been to a blacklight party before, so she was curious to see what the fuss was all about.
As time passed, Hope began heading upstairs to her bedroom, putting a halt to her training so she could grab a towel from her wardrobe and head to her own bathroom that was connected to her bedroom and take a quick shower to wipe away any traces of sweat from her skin. Once she was done with that, she began making her way back into her bedroom where she spent the next twenty minutes trying to decide on what to wear before she settled on an outfit to wear, one that she’d feel comfortable in for the rest of the night.
Hope styled her hair next, letting her long hair fall over her shoulders in an elegant manner with curls at the end. Once she was done, she put on her shoes and left her bedroom with her phone secured in her pocket. She had told her parents earlier about where she was going, along with everyone else in her family just so they wouldn’t worry about her. She closed the door after her once she was outside and began making her way to the Grill.
Once she was outside, she noticed just how loud the music was inside and so, she braced herself and finally opened the door, her eyes curiously scanning her surroundings as she took in how different the Grill looked. Everyone seemed to be having the best time as they danced and enjoyed themselves which put a small but relieved smile on Hope’s lips as she put on the wristband that signaled that she was underage so no bartenders would make the mistake of serving her any alcoholic drinks, not that she wanted to drink any. Though she stopped in front of the variety of wristbands on the table and noticed that each color resembled a relationship status and while she was not seeing anyone at the moment, there was someone that she had feelings for, so instead of going for the green wristband to slap onto her wrist, she reached for the orange one. She put it on her wrist with a gentle smile tugging at the corner of her lips as her blue eyes lifted and began scanning her surroundings for a familiar face.
She was the only reason Hope was here in the first place.
Hope began making her way into the crowd, carefully making her way past them as she looked around her to see if she could spot Josie anywhere. She seemed to relax almost instantly when she spotted her. Her shoulders sagged in relief as she began making her way toward her best friend and once she was close enough, she reached out to grasp Josie’s arm to capture her attention since she knew the music would easily cover her voice if she tried to call out Josie’s name. She waited until Josie turned to face her to send her a gentle smile followed by a wave. ”Hey you,”

Josie wasn’t too sure why she had even wanted to go to the blacklight party. She had never been to anything like it before and parties were much more Lizzie’s thing than hers but it had seemed like a good idea at the time and now she knew that it was far too late to back out. Hope had agreed to go with her and Josie was looking forward to being able to spend some time with her best friend but she couldn’t deny that she was nervous. She knew that she shouldn’t be considering that she and Hope were just friends and that Hope was never going to see her as anything more than that but there were times when she caught the other girl looking at her and she found herself wondering if perhaps there might be something there after all. Any time the thought crossed her mind she quickly dismissed it though, Hope had been her best friend for a long time and she was Hope Mikaelson, the only tribrid in existence and the girl who could have anyone she wanted. More than anything Josie wanted her best friend to be happy and she had made her peace with the fact that she wasn’t going to find that happiness with her a long time ago so she knew that she just needed to let it go and move on. So far that was proving to be much easier said than done, though, especially since just looking at Hope was enough to make her heart ache because she could never truly be honest with her without losing her for good, but it was something that Josie knew that she needed to do so she was trying her best to ignore it as much as possible. That still didn’t stop her spending more time than she should have done finding what she hoped would be the perfect outfit, though, and when she got there she knew that she should probably go for the green wristband since she was single and she was certain that it was an unrequited love but she couldn’t bring herself to. Instead she opted for an orange wristband before heading inside and starting to search for Hope. She knew that she could have waited for her parents to get ready and go with her but she hadn’t wanted to keep Hope waiting and she was pretty sure that her dad had known that. He had insisted on driving her before heading back home to finish getting ready himself and wait for mom and she had a feeling that it wouldn’t be too long before they got there. Whether or not any of her siblings would be going she wasn’t sure but she knew that she wouldn’t be surprised if she saw some of them during the course of the evening as well. At the moment there was only one person that she really wanted to see, though, and that was Hope. There were a lot of people at the Grill already and Josie knew that spotting Hope among the crowd wasn’t going to be easy but she knew that she wasn’t going to give up. All around her was a sea of people and different coloured wristbands but she kept on moving among them as she looked for Hope and was surprised when someone caught hold of her arm. Thinking that it was someone who had mistaken her for someone else, she turned and was surprised to find that he was actually Hope although the sight of the girl was enough to make a smile form on her face straight away. “Hey,” she said as she pulled her friend into a hug. “I’m glad you made it,” she admitted, hoping that it was going to end up being a fun night. Out of the corner of her eye she caught a glimpse of something and she looked down to see the orange wristband on Hope’s wrist instead of the green one that she had expected. “There’s someone you’re interested in?” she asked, momentarily forgetting that she too was wearing an orange wristband rather than green. “I had no idea,” she added, hating the fact that she felt jealous right now even after trying so hard to bury her feelings for her best friend. ━ the heart wants what it wants━
A smile immediately formed on Hope's lips when Josie pulled her into a hug. She wrapped her arms around her best friend shortly after, returning the hug with ease as she allowed herself a moment where she closed her eyes and allowed herself to sink into the embrace until she finally pulled back before she could make things weird and looked at Josie, her smile still evident on her lips. "Wouldn't miss it for the world," Hope said with a soft smile tugging at her lips. It wouldn't matter how busy she was, she'd always make time for Josie, it just goes to show how much Hope cares about her best friend and there were a thousand words ready to spill out of her lips to prove that fact but then Josie's question reached her ears which made her look down at her wrist, noticing the orange wristband she'd slapped on her wrist. "Oh━" Hope's lips parted and closed a few times, her mind scrambling for a proper answer that wouldn't immediately give her feelings away. She didn't wanna mess up the night, just in case the confession didn't go well at all.
"You could━ uh ━ you could say that." Hope nodded her head a few times as she lifted her hand to rub the back of her neck sheepishly. Her eyes moved down to look at Josie's wrist and when she saw the bright orange color glaring back at her, her heart skipped a beat, or dropped, she wasn't sure. She was torn but mostly it was just dread and regret. She was worried that she took too much time and now... Now she was too late.
I had no idea,
Hope's lips stretched to form a brief smile, although it didn't quite reach her eyes. That was the point. She thought in her head, her eyes relaxing on Josie's face again, noticing the way she looked a little bit different. Hope didn't want to get her hopes up, just in fear that they'd get severely crushed in an iron-fist. "I guess I was just worried they wouldn't feel the same way about me. Honestly... I think I might be a little too late." Hope's hesitance was clear in her voice as she spoke, her eyes cleverly avoiding Josie's for a moment before her eyes moved to settle on Josie's wristband once more. "What about, um, you? Are you interested in someone?" Hope questioned, noticing the way her wolf seemed really uneasy at the moment, ready to snap at someone because Hope was jealous, she was boiling with jealousy at this point and she hated it. "I had no idea either," Hope added a moment later, her lips stretching to form a hesitant smile.

Josie had never been the outgoing one out of her and Lizzie, she was always more than happy to take a backseat while her sister got all the attention so going to something like this without Lizzie was a little strange to say the least but she knew that it would be worth it to be able to spend some time with Hope. Her family were sure to be there as well, or at least her parents and some of her extended family were going to be anyway, and she knew that it would be worth it. She had been to a few different parties over the last few years but nothing like this and if she was honest she was looking forward to it. “I’m glad, it’s going to be a lot of fun,” she admitted as Hope said that she wouldn’t miss it for the world. They always spent time together when they could, after all they were best friends and had been for as long as Josie could remember, but deep down there was more to it than that on Josie’s side at least. She had no idea when she had first developed a crush on Hope but as soon as she had realised it had become something that she couldn’t deny. She was doing her best to hide it because she knew that it was one sided but if she was honest just seeing the orange wristband Hope had picked out was enough to make her heart ache. She wanted her friend to be happy and she knew that she would support Hope no matter what but that didn’t mean that she didn’t still feel jealous and she hated herself for feeling that way. “That’s great,” Josie said, trying her best to sound happy for her friend although the smile she gave didn’t meet her eyes. She knew that she needed to be a better friend, Hope had someone she liked and Josie knew that she needed to be there for her and support her but that was proving to be easier said than done right now. She didn’t want to be this person, she hated feeling jealous but the truth was that she had no idea how to stop herself from feeling that way. She knew that she needed to find a way to do just that, though, and finally move on from Hope now that she had someone that she was interested in. “They?” she repeated. She had no idea who Hope was interested but now she knew that it could be a guy or a girl and that really didn’t narrow things down at all. “You’re an incredible person Hope. I’m sure they must feel the same way about you, they’d have to be crazy not to.” She hoped that whoever it was realised just how lucky they were to have caught Hope’s eye because Josie knew that she would love to be in their position. As Hope asked if there was someone she liked Josie was confused for a moment but then her eyes caught sight of the orange wristband she was wearing and she felt her cheeks flush red. “Yeah, there is but I’m in the same boat as you. I know they don’t feel that way about me,” she explained, doing her best to keep the sadness out of her voice at that thought. Josie knew that she didn’t want this to spoil their evening so she held her hand out to Hope. “Will you dance with me?” she asked, knowing that she wanted that much to hold onto if she could at least. They? You’re an incredible person Hope. I’m sure they must feel the same way about you, they’d have to be crazy not to.
Hope's eyes lifted to settle on Josie, her question making a small smile pull on her lips. "Yeah. They." She purposefully didn't specify a gender because she was interested in both, but in her case, she was only interested in Josie. She wasn't sure when the lines between friendship and romance began to blur, but there was one thing she knew for sure and it was that she really liked Josie, she just wasn't sure how to bring it up without risking making things awkward between them for a long, long time. She couldn't lose Josie. She was her best friend. A small smile tugged at the corner of her lips at Josie's words, unable to deny the fact that her heart had skipped a beat. "You think so?" She asked, her voice toying on the edge of shyness as she peered at Josie through her lashes, her smile still evident on her lips.
Yeah, there is but I’m in the same boat as you. I know they don’t feel that way about me,
Hope frowned slightly at Josie's words, feeling a wave of protectiveness wash over her. "Jo," she called out, her voice soft as she reached out to grasp her best friend's hand. "You're the most amazing person I know, they must be crazy if they don't like you back. You deserve the world, Jo, and I'm positive that you'll find someone one day who will give you just that, okay?" Hope gave her best friend's hand another gentle squeeze, her lips stretching into a soft smile before she released her friend's hand.
Will you dance with me?
Hope looked a bit surprised by the request but that surprise didn't last for long as her smile became evident once more on her lips. She reached out to grasp Josie's hand in her own, nodding her head a few times. "Thought you might never ask." Hope teased in a light-hearted manner as she began making her way to the dance floor with Josie, allowing the music to guide the way she moved her body, her lips stretching into a grin almost right away, looking like she was having quite a lot of fun like this. With Josie.
The girl that she really liked.

Josie wasn’t used to Hope being mysterious, they had always been able to tell each other anything but now Hope didn’t want to reveal too much about the person that she liked and that was enough to intrigue Josie. She knew better than to get her hopes up and think that Hope liked her too, the girl was incredible and Josie knew that she could have anyone that she wanted but there were still times when Hope looked at her and it was enough to make Josie’s heart skip a beat. She hadn’t liked anyone like this before so it was completely new to her and she knew that the last thing she wanted was to end up ruining their friendship but with each passing day it was getting harder to hide the way she felt. She wanted to know who it was that Hope liked because a part of her wondered if it might make it a little easier if she did know but at the same time she wasn’t sure that she was ready. “I do,” she nodded, a small smile forming on her face as she looked over at her friend. “You make it easy for people to think the world of you Hope, I don’t want you to ever doubt that,” she said gently. She knew that it was true, she thought the world of Hope and she knew that others like Raf did as well. “You deserve someone who will love you the way that you should be loved.” She knew that she was probably quite biased but Hope hadn’t had it easy and yet she had still managed to come out of it the other side. She deserved someone who would support her and be there for her and Josie honestly hoped that the other girl would find that even if it was with someone else. Hope had been a little mysterious about who it was that she liked but now Josie knew that it was her turn to do the same. They both liked both genders so it would have been easy to say that it was a guy she liked to make sure that she didn’t let slip to Hope that it was her but Josie couldn’t bring herself to do that. She knew that she couldn’t tell Hope the truth but she could still be as honest as she could be and that was something that she could hold onto at least. Looking down at their joined hands as Hope took hers, Josie slowly lifted her gaze to meet the other girl’s and she felt her heart skip a beat. It would be so easy to lean forward those last few inches now and kiss Hope and the urge to do so was stronger than ever but she knew that she couldn’t so instead she chose to focus on her words. “Okay, thanks,” she said, her smile widening as her eyes met Hope’s. Asking Hope to dance with her was sure to blur those lines a little more but right now Josie knew that she wanted to throw caution to the wind just a little considering that she couldn’t come clean to Hope so dancing with her was going to have to do. As Hope said she thought that she would never ask, Josie couldn’t help but laugh and she followed Hope onto the dance floor. Once they were there it was easy to get lost in the music and they danced together for a while before Evangeline sought them out among the crowd. “Just who I was looking for. The next act hasn’t showed up so I need someone to perform a song while the DJ sets up the next set. Will you do it?” Evangeline asked her and Josie immediately felt the colour drain from her face. “I-I can’t. I’m not a singer,” she protested. She had never performed in front of her family unless it was with Lizzie let alone in front of a room full of strangers on her own. “I’ve heard you Jo, you’re amazing. Please will you help me out?” Evangeline asked and Josie knew in that moment that she didn’t have a choice so she nodded before turning to Hope. “Will you wait for me?” she asked her friend, waiting for her confirmation that she would before heading onto the stage. Setting up the music, she moved into the centre of the stage and felt nerves building in her chest as she looked out at all of the people there. She could see a lot of familiar faces – her parents were there and so were Bonnie, Stefan, Caroline, Dec, Tatia and Matt among others – but as she signalled to Evangeline to start the music there was only one person she could focus on and that was Hope. To begin with she was a bundle of nerves but as the song went on she started to gain more confidence and by the end she felt like she was on cloud nine. The song was so personal to her, it literally was her life in a song and it felt good to let it all out, especially after seeing just how proud the people who mattered most to her seemed to be. Once her performance was done she jumped down off the stage and made her way straight over to Hope as the crowd clapped and cheered around her, the adrenaline still coursing through her body as she did so. Without a word she was reaching for Hope, her hand resting against Hope’s cheek as she leaned forward and kissed her. HOPE MIKAELSON

━ the heart wants what it wants━
You make it easy for people to think the world of you Hope, I don’t want you to ever doubt that, You deserve someone who will love you the way that you should be loved.
Hope felt a soft smile touch her lips at Josie's words before she nodded her head a few times. "Thank you, Jo." She said in a soft voice, her gratitude visible in her tone. Her expression softened at Josie's next words, her eyes still focused solely on her because she had no doubt in her mind that Josie would love her the way that she should be loved and Hope didn't doubt that she'd do the same for her because Josie deserved the best in the whole world and she found herself looking forward to the day where she shows her that.
Where she tells her just how much she loves her without hesitation and without second guessing herself. One day.
Hope didn't know that that one day would be today. It would all begin with the moment Josie steps off the stage but right now, Hope doesn't know that. So she hopes, and hopes that one day, she'll toss her worries to the side and finally confess to her best friend.
When they danced, Hope felt a lot of her own worries wash away. She moved her body along with Josie's, enjoying the upbeat music that brought a grin to Hope's lips as she danced with Josie and at that moment, Hope truly felt happy. But it all came to a halt when Eva's voice broke through and made Hope stop dancing, her eyes moving between the two of them. "You're gonna crush it, Jo." Hope encouraged her to agree, her proud smile forming on her lips already. When Josie asked her if she will wait for her, Hope nodded her head once. "There's no other place I'd rather be," Hope said in a soft voice, meaning every bit of it. "I'll be right here, cheering you on." She added in a promise and it was one that she was going to keep.
Hope watched Josie sing with a proud look on her face. Her voice truly touched Hope's heart and she found herself looking at her with a loving gaze. She watched her as if she captured every last bit of her attention and that's because she did. No one here would ever be able to hold her gaze like this. Hope could tell that Josie was gaining more and more confidence as she sang on and it literally made her feel so proud.
Hope believed that she cheered her on the loudest when Josie ended the song with that beautiful voice of hers and she also believed that she was smiling the brightest as she watched Josie jump off the stage, everyone cheering her on, Hope included, of course. She watched as Josie got closer and closer to where she was standing and she thought that she'd stop in front of her, but she didn't.
Hope felt a pair of lips press against her own and it made her heart skip a beat as she finally began to realize that Josie was kissing her. People cheered even louder but she couldn't bring herself to care about what was happening to her as she finally snapped out of her surprise and began kissing her best friend back. She lifted her hands up to cup Josie's cheeks, returning the kiss with passion. But it wasn't a hurried kiss. She took her time exploring Josie's lips and getting used to the feel of them against her own and almost right away, she felt herself grow addicted to the taste of her lips.
It was like Heaven.
Hope only leaned back when the need to breathe became too much for her to ignore and when she finally leaned back, she pressed her forehead against Josie's. "Wow," she let out a breathless chuckle as she took a moment to gain her breath, her lips tingling pleasantly. "You're the one I have a crush on, Jo. There's no one else. It's always been you."

Josie knew that Hope didn’t often see herself the way that Josie saw her but then again she knew that it was the same for her as well. They each had their own insecurities but she knew that perhaps that was why they got along so well because they never let each other give in to them. Hope had been her best friend for such a long time and Josie was grateful to her for that. The girl had been there for her through everything and somewhere along the line she had developed a crush on her but deep down she knew that it was more than that. It wasn’t just a crush, she loved Hope as more than a friend and it was becoming that much more difficult to ignore with each passing day. They spent so much time together and when they weren’t together they were often texting each other and it was something that she had come to enjoy more than she cared to admit. She was doing her best to deny it but deep down she knew that was a lie and she wasn’t sure just how much longer she could keep on pushing those feelings down. “You don’t need to thank me, it’s the truth,” Josie assured her, knowing that she had never meant anything more. Hope deserved so much more than she ever gave herself credit for and that was something that Josie would never let the girl forget. So much had happened that they didn’t have any say about, they had both been aged up by Henrik’s spell and for a while Josie hadn’t known how to feel about that but in the end she had realised that she just wanted to make the most of the life she had because either way she would have become the person that she was right now. Dancing with Hope it was so easy to forget about all of that and just focus on the girl in front of her and she knew that she wouldn’t have it any other way. In that moment she knew that there wasn’t anywhere else that she would rather be but it wasn’t to last because soon enough Evangeline joined them and Josie’s protests died on her lips as Hope said that she was going to crush it. “You really think so?” she asked even though she knew that Hope had never heard her sing. It was something that Josie had always kept to doing while she was on her own, or so she had thought anyway. Apparently Evangeline had overheard her and that was something that Josie had never expected. This wasn’t how she had thought that her night would go but she felt a little better as Hope said that there wasn’t any place that she would rather be. “I’m going to hold you to that,” Josie assured her, knowing that Hope was the one person she needed to give her the confidence to do this. Her parents were in the crowd and so were so many of her friends but it was Hope that she needed to focus on, it was always Hope. Stepping out onto the stage Josie still wasn’t sure that she could do this. Her hands were shaking as she reached for the microphone but she took a deep breath to steady herself and the moment the music began she did her best to calm her nerves. For a moment her eyes found her parents in the crowd and she felt a small smile touch her lips as her dad nodded in encouragement and mouthed that he loved her. She could see how proud they were before she had even started singing and the moment the first few words left her lips she found herself starting to feel a little better as her eyes found Hope’s once more. Focusing on her it was easy to forget about everyone else around them and it felt like she was singing just to Hope. As the song finished she could see Hope cheering for her but as she jumped off the stage all of the sounds around her melted away as she closed the distance between herself and her best friend. Deep down a part of her knew that she shouldn’t be doing this, that she was risking everything, but the rush of adrenaline was much too great and it only took a few moments before Josie’s lips were pressed against Hope’s. She was vaguely aware of the fact that the cheering got louder then but the truth was that she didn’t care, all she could focus on was the feeling of Hope’s lips against her own and she felt her heart skip a beat as Hope kissed her back. Leaning into Hope’s touch, Josie relished in that first kiss, the one that she had been thinking about for so long. It was a slow kiss as they took their time getting to know each other in this way that was so different to anything they had done before but it was filled with so much passion and she knew that it was something that she would never forget. It could have felt strange or wrong but it didn’t, it felt like she was home. Finally leaning back to catch her breath, Josie felt a half smile touch her lips as Hope said wow. “Wow is right,” she breathed. “I’m sorry, the adrenaline was too much,” she said, her cheeks flushing red as the reality of what she had just done began to sink in. As Hope said that she was the one she had the crush on Josie couldn’t deny that she was surprised and this time it was her turn to let her hand rest against Hope’s cheek as their eyes met. “It has always been you for me too. I’ve been crazy about you for as long as I can remember,” she said, hardly able to believe that this was happening. “I never thought you would feel the same, I thought I’d just ruined out friendship completely.”HOPE MIKAELSON

━ the heart wants what it wants━
You don’t need to thank me, it’s the truth, You really think so? I’m going to hold you to that,
Hope felt a small smile tug at her lips at Josie's words, her heart skipping a beat which made her feel glad that Josie didn't have supernatural hearing or else she would've heard the effect of her words on her. "I do." She said almost immediately. She felt yet another smile form on her lips at Josie's words before she nodded her head because honestly, Hope had no intentions of breaking that promise anytime soon. She was definitely looking forward to seeing Josie perform.
She watched her with a proud smile on her lips, her voice definitely one of the sweetest voices she's ever heard, it made her listen with an amazed look on her face, looking completely and utterly whipped for her best friend, there was just no other way to describe the emotion going through her right now. Though the last thing she expected after the performance was for Josie to hop off the stage and head straight for her, their lips meeting one another in a kiss that snatched Hope's breath away as she grasped onto Josie's waist to keep herself grounded into the current moment. Her eyes fluttered shut and almost immediately, she responded to the kiss. No questions asked, no hesitation, no 'what if's because for once, she wasn't listening to the voices in her head warning her against doing this. You could lose her. Hope feared nothing more than losing her loved ones but she wasn't going to let this fear keep her from exploring this whole new side of Josie.
From exploring their friendship as it blossoms into something more.
Hope let out a soft chuckle before she shook her head. "It's okay, you don't have to apologize. I liked it." She assured, looking a little bit dazed until she finally blinked out of that daze and brought her attention to her best friend. Hope felt her heart skip yet another beat before her lips stretched into a relieved grin. "Crazy about me?" Hope repeated with a teasing glint in her eyes as she tilted her head slightly to the side. "That's adorable." She added a moment later, still teasing. "I'll let you in on a big secret." Hope leaned forward, just a little closer, their lips almost touching. "I've been crazy about you for as long as I can remember too, Jo." Hope admitted against Josie's lips before she pressed her lips against Josie once again, kissing her again.

Heading to the Grill for the blacklight party was meant to be just an excuse to hang out with Hope but something had changed when Josie had realised that Hope had gone for an orange wristband. Suddenly she felt guilty for feeling the way she did about her best friend when Hope was clearly into someone else but she still couldn’t change it anyway. Aside from her family, Hope had been a constant in her life for as long as she could remember. The girl was her best friend and Josie wanted there to be more than that between them but now she knew that there never would be and she needed to find a way to come to terms with that. She hadn’t expected Evangeline to ask her to sing at all but the woman had done it in a way that Josie just hadn’t been able to say no. She was terrified but she knew that she needed to start trusting in herself more and as she started getting into the song she began feeling more confident. She’d seen the proud looks on the faces of her parents and all of the people who were like family to her but there was only one person she was singing to and that was Hope. Jumping down off the stage once the song was over, Josie hadn’t known what she was going to say to the other girl but instead she had found herself kissing her and even though she had known that she might end up regretting it later, the truth was that she wanted to enjoy every moment of it while it lasted. The way Hope’s lips moved against hers with such ease and without any hesitation was enough to make Josie wonder whether perhaps this wasn’t one sided after all. There were times when she’d thought she’d caught Hope looking at her in the way that Josie was certain she had looked at the other girl quite often but she had always told herself that she was seeing what she wanted to see although now she wasn’t so sure. It was only when the kiss broke that she realised that Hope’s hands had found her waist and she’d inched closer to her and as she realised that she’d just kissed the girl in front of all those people she felt her cheeks flush red. Josie was surprised when Hope said that she liked the kiss but before she could say anything Hope was teasing her and Josie’s cheeks turned even redder. She really had thought that Hope would want to try and find a way to let her down easy but the girl had said that she liked her and the truth was that Josie believed her. In that moment she couldn’t find the words to speak but as Hope said that she’d been crazy about her for as long as she could remember too before connecting their lips again, Josie wrapped her arms around Hope’s neck as she kissed her back and it was only when she needed to catch her breath that she finally pulled back. “I feel like such an idiot, I’ve been trying to tell myself I don’t feel that way about you for such a long time because I didn’t think you would ever like me in that way,” she admitted. Hope was her best friend and she knew that it was easy for the lines between friendship and something more to become blurred but she had never truly let herself believe that it wasn’t one sided. Just looking at Hope now was enough to make Josie’s heart skip a beat. She was so beautiful both inside and out and Josie knew that if this was a dream then it was one that she didn’t want to wake up from. “Will you...” she began, the words trailing off before she took a deep breath to steady herself and let her eyes meet Hope’s once more. “Will you be my girlfriend?” she asked, hating the way that her heart hammered in her chest in a way she knew Hope would hear as she waited for the girl’s answer. ━ the heart wants what it wants━
I feel like such an idiot, I’ve been trying to tell myself I don’t feel that way about you for such a long time because I didn’t think you would ever like me in that way,
When the kiss came to an end so they could both catch their breath, Josie's words were enough to bring her back to the current moment, her eyes fluttering open so she could meet Josie's. "You're not an idiot." She said almost right away. "I wanted to tell you so many times but I was worried that it would ruin our friendship, you know? Just in case you didn't feel that way about me." Truth be told, Josie was her first girl crush. She was the first person she ever crushed on and it was thanks to her that she figured out she liked girls, too. There were so many times where she wanted to tell Josie the truth but she always talked herself down from doing it because she was so worried that it would make her lose Josie, or that it would make things awkward between them, but she was so thankful that she didn't have to worry about that anymore.
Will you... Will you be my girlfriend?
Hope tilted her head slightly to the side, patiently waiting for Josie to complete the sentence with an encouraging look in her eyes and when she did, Hope felt her heart speed up. Again, she wondered if all of this was just a dream because it just didn't feel real but she knew that it was all real and it was more than enough to make a smile tug at her lips. "Of course, Jo." Hope reached to grasp Josie's hands in her own. "I'd love nothing more than to be your girlfriend, Josie Saltzman." She looked into her best friend's --- girlfriend's --- eyes, her grin already forming on her lips. Hope felt happy. Really happy. "Will you be my girlfriend, too?" She gave Josie's hands another squeeze, looking up into the eyes of her girlfriend.

Josie had wanted to kiss Hope for such a long time and now it had finally happened she couldn’t deny that it felt a little surreal. The night had started out a little awkwardly at first because she had felt sure that Hope liked someone else and Hope had thought the same about her but it turned out that they couldn’t have been more wrong and she really was glad about that. “I know exactly what you mean, I was worried about ruining our friendship as well,” she admitted. “I swear to you that no matter what happens I’ll always be your best friend. You’re stuck with me,” she added, her words completely sincere as they left her lips. She wanted things to work out with Hope so badly but she also knew that not all relationships lasted. She hoped that theirs would but if something did happen then she knew that she would never turn her back on Hope anyway. The girl meant so much to her and one thing she knew for sure was that she wanted to make sure that their friendship remained intact. Lizzie had always been the more confident and outgoing one out of the two of them but it seemed that Josie was taking a leaf out of her sister’s book that evening. She had been acting on pure adrenaline when she had kissed Hope the first time but she didn’t regret it. She hadn’t expected any of this to happen when Evangeline had asked her to sing but now she knew that she definitely owed the woman for helping the two of them figure things out. Whether that had been her plan or not Josie had no idea but things had worked out better than she ever could have hoped for anyway. The adrenaline was already starting to wear off but even so she knew that there was something that she needed to ask Hope and as the words left her lips she found herself feeling nervous about the answer. The smile that formed on Hope’s face was enough to draw a smile to Josie’s lips in return and she felt her heart skip a beat as she spoke. Looking down at their joined hands, Josie placed her free hand over Hope’s and leaned in to kiss her again, not even caring if anyone was watching the two of them. “Of course I will,” she said, giving Hope’s hand a squeeze in return. She couldn’t help but feel happy right now and as she caught sight of her parents out of the corner of her eye she could tell from the smiles on their faces that they were happy for her too. “Do you want to dance some more or shall we get some air?”HOPE MIKAELSON

I know exactly what you mean, I was worried about ruining our friendship as well, I swear to you that no matter what happens I’ll always be your best friend. You’re stuck with me,
If only Hope had known that Josie liked her too, she would have confessed a long time ago, but maybe it was just not meant to be at the time. Maybe it needed to happen at its own pace. It was perfect like this. After spending so long pining after her best friend, they were finally together. They finally shared their first kiss and confessed to one another. It was perfect. A soft chuckle escaped her lips at Josie's words when she said that she was stuck with her. "You're stuck with me, too, Jo." Hope said with a soft smile resting on her lips. "You'll always be my best friend too. Always.' No matter what.
Of course I will, Do you want to dance some more or shall we get some air?
Hope felt her heart flutter when their lips met again in a kiss. She wasn't sure whether she could ever get used to the feeling of Josie's lips against her own. It all felt like a dream to Hope, a really really good one and if it was just a dream, she didn't want to wake up from it. It was like Heaven. Hope felt a soft smile appear on her lips. They did it. They're finally girlfriends now. She considered Josie's question for a moment, taking a quick look around them. The dance floor was definitely starting to get a bit stuffy at the moment, so she looked back at Josie after making up her mind. "Let's go get some fresh air." She didn't let go of Josie's hand and instead, chose to intertwine their fingers, leading her girlfriend out of the Grill. Hope lifted her hand to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear as she took in a breath of fresh air, happy to be outside.
"Mmm, this feels nice." She closed her eyes for a moment just to enjoy the fresh air before she opened her eyes and moved her gaze back to Josie, watching her for a moment. "I still can't believe this is real." She admitted in a soft voice. "I'm really happy." That feeling of pure happiness wasn't something that Hope was used to, but God, it was such an amazing feeling. "I like you a lot, Jo. I really do." Hope gave her girlfriend's hand a gentle squeeze as they walked, not caring if anyone looked at their intertwined fingers or how close they were. The only thing she cared about in that moment was Josie.
Only her.

Josie knew that falling for her best friend was risky because it could easily end up ruining their friendship but Hope had been a part of her life for such a long time now that she refused to let that happen. Aside from her family Hope was the one person she had always been able to count on and she knew that she would be so lost if she ended up losing her. She’d had feelings for her for such a long time and she was pretty sure that everyone she cared about had figured it out a long time ago but somehow she had managed to keep it from Hope and that in itself was a miracle. Now it felt good for it all to finally be out in the open, though, and she knew that she just had to hope that they would be able to make it work. “I’m lucky to have you in my life,” Josie said, a smile forming on her face as she looked over at Hope. She had always felt that way but it wasn’t something that she said out loud very often. She knew that Hope sometimes felt out of place but they both had their insecurities and she was pretty sure that was why they got each other so well. There was a part of Josie that couldn’t help but feel like this was all a dream but if it was then she knew that she didn’t want it to end. Josie had used what was left of the adrenaline from her performance to ask Hope to be her girlfriend but she hadn’t expected Hope to ask her that same question in return. Just hearing Hope say those words was enough to make her heart flutter and in that moment Josie felt like she wanted some time alone with Hope so it was easy to ask if she wanted to get some air. She had a feeling that people weren’t paying too much attention to them now but even so there were still a lot of people around and it was quite loud inside the Grill so she knew that she would much rather be somewhere quieter right now. Giving Hope’s hand a gentle squeeze as she linked their fingers together, Josie followed her girlfriend out of the Grill and felt like a weight had been lifted the moment they were outside. “It does, I didn’t realise how hot it got in there,” she admitted before feeling her smile return at Hope’s next words. “I can’t either, it feels like a dream,” she admitted. They were both strong individually when they had to be but Josie had figured out a long time ago that they were so much stronger when they were together and that hadn’t changed. “That’s all I’ve ever wanted,” Josie said gently as Hope said she was really happy. Josie had felt devastated earlier when she had thought that Hope liked someone else and even though she had realised that she wanted the girl to be happy regardless of who that was with she really was glad that she was the one who made Hope feel that way. “I really like you too, I have for a long time,” she said as they walked. Deep down she wondered if it was more than that but she knew that the last thing she wanted was to say those words out loud and scare Hope off. “I thought about this happening so many times but I never believed it actually would.”HOPE MIKAELSON
