━ she has the moon in her mind ; that’s why stars spill off her lips. ━ Ethan had been living with them for a little bit of time now and even though it hadn't been that long, she could already see how much he meant to her dad. She could tell that the bond they had was special. The way Ethan's eyes lingered on her dad, the way his eyes softened whenever they talked. He also cared about Ela a lot. After that incident, she'd been jumpy and constantly on edge but he was there to help her through most of them. One time he saw her sitting in the dark after having experienced a nightmare and he didn't leave her side until she'd fallen asleep with her head resting on his lap. He had such a big heart and it seemed to be occupied most of the time with her dad.
She didn't find it weird in the slightest. The way he always mentioned her dad in any conversation they both ignited. If anything, it made her realize one thing. But she wasn't so sure they realized it themselves. Either way, Ela wanted to talk to her dad about it a little bit today. After her classes, she kept herself busy with her studies until her dad came home and when he did, she didn't seek him right away. She let him have some rest and relax from work before she finally left the safety of her room. "Hey, daddy." Ela greeted in a soft voice. "Um, there's food in the microwave if you wanna reheat it." Gabriela offered with a quick nod of her head following. During her break, she'd taken up cooking classes just as a way to spend time in a productive manner and she never once regretted it. "How was work?'

It had been just Antonio and the girls ever since Samara had left the two of them on his doorstep when they were babies and it hadn’t been easy at first but as soon as he saw the two of them he had known that there was no way that he was ever going to turn his back on them. He knew that he wasn’t a perfect dad, he had made a lot of mistakes especially in the beginning and there were times even now when he wasn’t sure what he was doing half of the time but he was doing the best he could and the girls were incredible so that made it that much easier. Lately Ethan had been staying with them and he couldn’t be happier with how he and the girls were getting along. After Ela had almost ended up getting robbed he had taken to checking in on her a few times throughout the night to make sure that she was doing alright and once he had seen Ethan sitting with her until she fell asleep and it was enough to make his heart melt. He seemed to have fit into the family straight away and Antonio couldn’t have asked for anything more. He and Ethan worked at the firehouse together as well but they still had their own lives and that day after his shift came to an end Antonio headed home while Ethan went out for a drink. Antonio knew that he could have gone too but he knew that at least one of the girls would be home by now and if he was honest what he wanted more than anything was to spend some time with his girls. Heading home, the house was completely silent when he got there and he had a quick look around but couldn’t see either of the girls so he jumped in the shower and got changed before heading down to the kitchen and grabbing a beer from the fridge. With the bottle in hand he made his way to the living room and sat down on the sofa, flicking through the channels on the television until Ela joined him and he sent a smile in her direction. “Hey sweetheart,” he said as he patted the spot next to him, hoping that she would join him if she didn’t have other plans. “Thanks, I’ll have some in a bit. Have you and Eli both eaten?” he asked, not sure whether Ela had been on her own since getting back or whether her sister had been around as well. The girls were both older now and were able to look after themselves but Antonio still to look out for them when he could. “It was good, busy. I’d rather that than a quiet day though,” he admitted as he looked over at her. “How was your day?”GABRIELA ALVAREZ

━ she has the moon in her mind ; that’s why stars spill off her lips. ━ Gabriela grinned and joined her dad on the couch, lifting her legs up on the couch as she wrapped her arms around her legs. She was more than happy to join him and watch TV with her dad for a bit. She liked spending time with him. It always made her feel warm and happy. "Yeah, we ate." Gabriela said with a gentle smile resting on her lips. "It was really good. M'full still." She said with a soft chuckle following.
Gabriela's lips stretched to form a small smile, understanding his point. "Oh, I bet." She offered him a sympathetic smile. "M'sorry, daddy." She added a moment later. "I can't imagine how tiring your job is." She added, her eyes shifting to settle on Antonio. Gabriela let out a soft hum when her dad asked about her day. "It was okay. I got some studying done." She said with a nod of her head following. "Nowhere near as hectic, I bet." She said with a small smile on her lips.
"I'm pretty sure Ethan is soaring high in dreamland by now." Ela said with a chuckle following, her eyes drifting over to settle on her dad. "You seem a lot happier now, y'know." She pointed out, her eyes still on her dad. "I can tell just how much he means to you." Ela said with a gentle smile on her lips. "I'm glad he's back in your life, daddy." Ela loved seeing her dad smile. Loved seeing him this happy. It made her feel relieved. Incredibly so.

Antonio loved his job but he couldn’t deny that the highlight of his days was always being able to return home to the girls once his shift came to an end. He had never thought about having children that much before they came along because he had never managed to make a relationship work. He had never understood why that was but no matter what woman he ended up with it just never felt right. For a while things were good but as time went on they always started to draw apart. Samara was the only dragon that he had met outside of his family and he had known that if he was going to fall for anyone then it would make sense for it to be her but even that hadn’t worked out and that was something that Antonio had learned to accept. He was starting to think that perhaps he was meant to end up alone but he had the girls now anyway so if he was honest he could live with that. Something had changed when Ethan came back into his life though, he was happier than he had been for a long time and the atmosphere around the house had changed a little. The girls seemed happy having him around too and Ethan couldn’t deny that that was a relief. Now his shift was over all he wanted to do was to relax and spend some time with his girls and it wasn’t long before Ela joined him. “That’s good,” he said, wrapping his arm around her shoulders so that she could rest against him if she wanted to the way that she had done when she was younger. “With such a glowing review I might have to try it for myself soon,” he chuckled. He didn’t always get the chance to sit down and eat with the girls depending on when his shifts finished but he always liked them to have family meals when they could although that day he was going to have to settle for eating alone. “It is but it’s worth it,” he assured her. “I finally found what I’m meant to do.” He had tried his hand at so many different careers over the years and none of them had been right for him so it was a relief to have finally found his calling. As Ela said that she had managed to get some studying done but that her day wasn’t as hectic as his, Antonio couldn’t help but laugh. “I don’t know about that, I bet school can get pretty hectic too,” he chuckled. Ela always seemed to take it in her stride though so even if it had been then he didn’t doubt that she would have found a way through it. “That wouldn’t surprise me,” he grinned as she said that Ethan was probably fast asleep by now. As she said that he seemed happier and that she could tell how much Ethan meant to her, Antonio felt a smile form on his face. “He does, he’s family,” he nodded, not completely aware of the fact that Ethan was more than that to him. “I am too,” he added as he kissed the top of her head gently. “I’m so glad you and Eli like him.” That had been important to him from the very first day that he’d found out that Ethan was still alive. He had wanted the girls to get to know him but he couldn’t deny that it had surprised him just how quickly and easily they had welcomed him into the family. GABRIELA ALVAREZ

━ she has the moon in her mind ; that’s why stars spill off her lips. ━ That’s good, With such a glowing review I might have to try it for myself soon, It is but it’s worth it, I finally found what I’m meant to do.
Gabriela chuckled at her dad's words, her eyes finding her dad's soon after. "Be sure to leave your review after you're done. It's what keeps us goin'." Gabriela teased with a soft smile resting on her lips. She felt a soft smile touch her lips at her dad's words, feeling something warm fill her chest. "I'm happy for you, daddy." She said, her voice still soft as she reached up to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear. She hoped that one day, she'll be able to find a job like that. To find where her true calling was.
I don’t know about that, I bet school can get pretty hectic too, That wouldn’t surprise me, He does, he’s family, I am too, I’m so glad you and Eli like him.
Gabriela giggled at her dad's words. "Oh, yeah totally. Especially if you're surrounded by supernatural creatures all around you." She joked with a grin on her lips as she leaned against her dad some more, allowing his presence to comfort her. "Yeah, he looked tired." She said with a half-smile resting on her lips. She looked up at her dad, watching him for a little. She wasn't so sure her dad knew how Ethan looked at him when he wasn't looking. She wasn't sure he knew how Ethan's tone softened when he talked about him. There was so much there that said that it wasn't just a brotherly bond but she wasn't so sure they knew it themselves.
"It's hard not to like him." Gabriela said with a soft smile on her lips. "Not gonna lie, he looked intimidating when I first saw him but then I got to know him better and I could just tell how much he cared about you." Gabriela's voice was still soft as she talked. "He's talking about you almost all the time when you're not here." She added a moment later, her voice still soft. "It's really cute."

“I will,” Antonio chuckled. It still amazed him just how well Ela and Eli had turned out but he knew better than to question it. They had their moments sometimes, Eli especially since she seemed to be the rebellious one of the two, but he loved them both regardless and he knew that he always would. He had done his best to be there for them as they were growing up and make sure that they didn’t miss out on too much since they didn’t have their mom around but he would be lying if he said that he didn’t still wonder what it would have been like if Samara had been able to watch their children grow up as well sometimes. The two of them hadn’t fallen for each other but they had liked each other and he knew that she would have been just as proud of the way the girls had turned out. They were older now and they didn’t need him as much as they once had but the three of them looked out for each other and now Ethan had been added to the mix as well so the family had grown a little. “Same here. I know you’ll find something that makes you just as happy one day,” he assured Ela. She and Eli were both still so young so they had plenty of time before they had to think about anything like that but he wanted them to be happy more than anything so he hoped that they would figure out what they wanted to do sooner than he had done. “I bet you never know what’s going to happen,” he grinned. Antonio wasn’t sure if there were any other dragons at the school but all of the students were supernatural and so were a lot of the staff as well so Antonio knew that it was the right school for the girls. He had wanted them to be surrounded by others who were like them and even if there weren’t any kids around who were exactly like them then being around kids who belonged to other species was the next best thing as far as he was concerned. “It was a long day, I’m sure he could use the rest,” Antonio nodded, knowing that he really couldn’t blame Ethan after the shift they’d had. As Ela spoke again, Antonio couldn’t help but laugh. “He has always looked more intimidating than he actually is,” he chuckled. He could still remember how frosty things had been between him and Ethan at first but that had soon changed and the bond that had been formed was one that he had never been fortunate enough to find again. As she said that Ethan talked about him a lot when he wasn’t there, Antonio couldn’t deny that he was surprised. “Really?” he asked, his expression turning thoughtful for a moment before he realised something. “He’s probably just making up for lost time, we went ages without seeing each other,” he shrugged, not realising that there could be another reason for it. Gabriela felt a soft smile touch her lips at her dad's words. He always seemed to know what she was thinking about without needing to say it. "I really hope so, daddy." Ela said with a soft smile still on her lips as she wrapped her arms tighter around her legs, bringing them closer to her chest, her eyes focused forward on the TV for a few moments even though she wasn't really paying much attention to what was playing. She was a lot more interested in talking to her dad. Ela giggled at her dad's words and nodded her head a few times. "Exactly! I just never know what to expect. It's scary," she joked with a smile on her lips. It really wasn't scary at all. All the students there were so sweet and she could tell how much Jenna and Alaric wanted to keep the kids there safe from any harm.
It was a long day, I’m sure he could use the rest, He has always looked more intimidating than he actually is, Really? He’s probably just making up for lost time, we went ages without seeing each other,
Gabriela nodded her head a few times. "I made something for him to eat, too. In case the food's done." She said with a small smile on her lips, wanting to make sure everyone ate. "Right? He's so tall, too! Got me wondering how the world feels from up there." Gabriela said with a chuckle following. She hummed for a moment as she seemed to think her dad's words over. "Or maybe he just likes you too much to the point where he can't stop thinking about you, daddy." Ela offered, her eyes settling on her dad's side profile for a moment. "I actually, um, thought you both were like... together. That's what your bond felt like if I'm being honest. The thought doesn't bother me at all, either. I'm just happy as long as you're happy, daddy."

“I know you will, I believe in you,” Antonio assured her as he gave her shoulder a gentle squeeze. He knew that both of his girls would figure out what they were meant to do sooner or later and he would be right there with them when they did. Samara hadn’t been able to watch them grow up but he was doing his best to be there for both of them and he truly did believe that they would figure it out. They were smart girls and they often seemed like nothing was ever going to get in their way and he couldn’t deny that he admired that about them. As Ela spoke again, Antonio couldn’t help but laugh. “Sure it is,” he chuckled, not buying that for a minute. He had taken a look around the school before he had decided to send the girls there and even though he knew that there was probably a lot that went on behind closed doors he knew that the girls would have told him if it was that bad. “You’re a dragon, you could eat them all for breakfast,” he teased, knowing that it was actually true. Both he and Samara were dragons so there hadn’t been a doubt in his mind that the girls would follow in their footsteps but Ela was kind and gentle so he knew that she would never hurt anyone. “I’m sure he’ll appreciate that,” Antonio nodded, unable to deny that it warmed his heart to know that Ela was looking out for him as well. He knew that Ethan had been on his own for the most part for a long time so it was good to know that he had other people looking out for him too. “Maybe you should ask him,” he chuckled even though he knew that there wasn’t actually that much of a height difference between him and Ethan. He could still picture Ethan’s reaction to the question, though, and it amused him to no end. Ela’s next words surprised him and Antonio was about to tell her that she had it all wrong when she spoke again and the words died in his throat. “It’s not like that between us, it never has been,” he said even though deep down he wasn’t sure that he believed it himself. “We’re not like that,” he added even as a voice in the back of his mind reminded him that he had felt something that had felt an awful lot like jealousy just a few days before when he had seen Ethan getting hit on at the Grill. “It can’t be,” he muttered, more to himself than to Ela. He always told the girls that it didn’t matter who they fell in love with as long as they were happy but he knew that wasn’t what was going on with Ethan, it just couldn’t be. “We’re just friends.”GABRIELA ALVAREZ
