It was only a few months ago that Scott had had to bite Hayden in order to save her after she was attacked by someone wanting to kill her to claim a bounty that had been placed on her head. Scott had seen a lot of things while he was living first in Beacon Hills and then in Mystic Falls but he had never heard of something like that before and the truth was that it made him feel sick to his stomach. Dec’s name had been put on the list too and from what he had heard others had as well. Scott knew that his friends were capable of looking after themselves but they always banded together and he knew that now was going to be no exception. He and his friends had been there for Riley after he was used as a part of Klaus’ ritual to free his werewolf side and they had also rallied around him after he was attacked by a group of werewolves who wanted to impress Klaus. There always seemed to be something going on around Mystic Falls but Scott had come to realise that it was going to be the same no matter where he went. Ever since he was bitten he had found himself dealing with one supernatural drama after another and there were still times when he felt guilty about dragging his mom and Stiles into this with him but he knew that they wouldn’t have any of the people they had in their lives now if things hadn’t worked out the way they had done. For too long his mom and Stiles had been the only ones he could count on but now he had so many more people that he cared about than that and he knew that it was more than worth the price that he’d had to pay for it.

No matter what happened having Allison, Lydia, Malia, Kira, Liam, Hayden and the others in his life was worth it and he knew that it was worth it to have the gang from Mystic Falls in his life as well. Scott had made a lot more friends during his time there than he had expected and he couldn’t deny that he was glad about that. It helped knowing that there were people around that he could count on and between trying to figure out who was behind the hitlist and who was responsible for taking people and experimenting on them they had their hands full to say the least but they stuck together just like always and he knew that they would figure it out sooner or later. That day he was at home studying when he heard someone knock on the door. His mom was at work and both Malia and Isaac were out but they all had keys so he knew that it wouldn’t be any of them. It could be one of his friends but Scott knew that they usually called first and he checked his phone to find that he hadn’t had any missed calls while he was studying so now he was curious. Making his way downstairs he opened the door only to find a familiar figure on the porch. “Jasper? What on earth happened to you?” he asked as he crouched down and lifted the boy so he could help him inside. The whole scene reminded him of when he’d made it to Bonnie’s place after being attacked and now he knew a little about how she must have felt when she’d found him lying bleeding on her front doorstep. Setting Jasper down, Scott studied the boy’s wounds and he could already see that they were pretty bad. “Your healing has started to kick in but it’s working slowly.” It reminded him so much of how Hayden had been when he’d found her too and Scott’s mind was already drifting to the idea that he might have to do the same for her twin now that he’d done for her.

Mystic Falls was home to Scott and his friends now but the truth was that even before the hit list started it could be a dangerous place at times. Riley had been taken and used as a part of the ritual to break the curse keeping Klaus’ werewolf side at bay and Scott had found himself the target of an attack by werewolves who wanted to impress the hybrid. There always seemed to be some kind of a threat or another to deal with but right now the hit list and the Dread Doctors were Scott’s main focus. He knew that the people involved needed to be stopped but right now it felt like all any of them could do was damage control and he hated it. He had made himself and his mom a promise that he wasn’t going to let any of this overtake his life and he was keeping his word by making sure that he stayed on top of his studies but he couldn’t deny that he still felt the same need to protect the town that he’d felt while he was living in Beacon Hills and he knew that his friends felt it too.

He hadn’t expected to find Jasper out on the steps but he quickly helped the boy inside. He was the only one home at the moment and he cursed under his breath as he realised that even if he tried calling his mom she wouldn’t be able to answer since she was at work. When he’d turned up on Bonnie’s doorstep like this she’d used her magic to save him and for a moment he thought about calling Henrik and seeing if he was around to help but Jasper was in a bad state and even that was a long shot. “Not you too,” he groaned as Jasper said that this was down to the hit list. The same thing had happened to Hayden and had she not managed to get away then she would have died and now it looked like her twin was going through the same thing. “That sounds about right, the cowards,” he growled. It had been the same when he was attacked, they had needed strength in numbers to take him down and given that there was a lot of money at stake when it came to those who were on the hit list he knew that people weren’t going to want to take any chances. Surveying the boy’s wounds, Scott went to the kitchen to retrieve the first aid kit they kept there and he started doing what he could but even he knew that it wasn’t going to be enough. As Jasper said that it sucked being a chimera before his eyes closed, Scott’s eyes widened in alarm. “Jasper no, you have to stay awake,” he said as he shook the boy’s shoulder. “You’re losing a lot of blood just like Hayden was and the only way I could save her was to bite her but I need you to keep fighting,” he said as he used one hand to apply pressure to the worst of Jasper’s wounds and pulled his phone out of his pocket as he tried to call Hayden. “No answer,” he said before trying Liam’s number along with Henrik’s and getting the same outcome. It was starting to look more and more like he was going to have to do the same for Jasper that he had for Hayden but he knew that it could just as easily end up killing the boy so he didn’t want to have to try it if he could help it.

Scott had always felt bad for the way he had shown up on Bonnie’s doorstep after he was attacked by the wolves who had wanted to impress Klaus but he knew that it was a good thing he had done because she had saved his life. He had never expected anyone to show up on his doorstep the same way but it was instinctive for him to help Jasper inside so that he could try and help him. He didn’t know the boy as well as he knew Hayden but Scott still considered him to be a friend and it saddened him to see someone that he cared about in this state. There were still times now when he didn’t feel like he deserved the title of Alpha but he wanted to protect his friends as best he could and he hated that Jasper was in this position now. The boy deserved so much better especially after everything that he had been through but it seemed like life wasn’t done with chewing him up and spitting him out just yet and Scott knew that he had to do everything he could in order to help.

“You’ll see her soon, I promise,” Scott assured him even though it wasn’t a promise he was sure that he was going to be able to keep. The two of them had already been torn apart once and they had just found each other again now so it seemed cruel that they were facing the prospect of being torn apart again now but he hoped that it wouldn’t come to that. “Just stay with me, I’m going to do what I can to make sure that doesn’t happen,” he said, knowing that he wasn’t about to give up on Jasper. “It’s the least I could do,” he said, hating the fact that he hadn’t been able to get hold of Hayden to let her know what was going on. Checking Jasper’s wounds, Scott groaned as he realised that the boy’s healing still wasn’t kicking in and the bleeding didn’t seem to be showing any signs of slowing down. “You’re still not healing,” he said even though he was pretty sure that Jasper already knew that. “I can’t guarantee the bite will work, it could kill you but my mom is at work and I don’t know if anyone else would be able to get here fast enough,” he explained, knowing that it had to be Jasper’s choice. “What do you want me to do?”

Scott had always thought that he knew how Bonnie must have felt when he’d shown up on her doorstep after being attacked by the wolves that were trying to impress Klaus but now he knew that he didn’t have a clue. He felt helpless, Jasper had been attacked and it was clear that the boy was in a bad way but Scott didn’t have magic that he could use to save him the same way that Bonnie had done for him, there wasn’t much that he could do at all. He had managed to help Hayden by biting her and thankfully it had worked but he knew that it didn’t mean that it would work again. Even when a person was healthy there was a chance that it might not work and Scott wasn’t sure that he could deal with the guilt that would come from trying to change someone only to have it fail. He knew that Derek had been through it with Paige and he had lost her and Scott didn’t want to even think about the possibility of being the one responsible for Hayden losing her twin brother again.

Unfortunately the more time that went by the more Scott was starting to think that he didn’t have a choice. Jasper was dying anyway and even trying to take away the boy’s pain didn’t seem to be helping too much. He had done his best to reassure the younger boy by telling him that he was going to see Hayden again but the truth was that Scott wasn’t sure if that was actually going to happen. He had tried calling Hayden but there hadn’t been any answer from her and Liam and Henrik hadn’t picked up either. He knew that if he couldn’t get hold of Hayden then Liam was his best shot while Henrik was the only person he knew who might be able to heal Jasper. Scott knew that this time around he was truly on his own and as Jasper said that he would rather die with him trying, Scott nodded. “Alright, I’ll try,” he said, ignoring the pain that came from half shifting. It was always the same but it definitely wasn’t as bad as the first time and for that he was grateful. “Are you ready?” he asked, his eyes flashing red as he lifted Jasper’s arm and waited for his confirmation before biting his arm. Shifting back, he lowered the boy’s arm and after that all he could do was wait to see if it worked.

Scott had known that things would change after he became an Alpha, from the moment it happened he had felt more powerful but it came with more responsibility as well. He hadn’t planned on becoming the leader of his group of friends but that was exactly what had happened and he didn’t regret that. More than anything he wanted to keep the people he cared about safe and that extended to Jasper as well. He hadn’t planned on biting Liam or Hayden and he hadn’t thought that he would end up doing so with Derek either. He hadn’t wanted to build a bigger pack the way that Derek had when he became an Alpha but with Liam and Hayden it had been the only way to save them while with Derek it had been his decision. Now Jasper was in exactly the same position that his sister had been and Scott wasn’t able to get hold of her. He hadn’t wanted to do this without speaking to her first but she wasn’t answering and neither was Liam so Scott knew that he didn’t have any other choice, Jasper just didn’t have enough time left for them to wait.

Nodding as Jasper said that he was ready, Scott bit into his arm and he instantly felt bad as the boy began to writhe in pain. That hadn’t happened with Hayden or Derek and it hadn’t happened for Scott when he was bitten either but Jasper had been with the Dread Doctors for a long time so there was no telling what they might have done to him. He knew there was a chance that the bite might not take, Jasper was badly hurt and he had lost a lot of blood and even under the best of circumstances there were no guarantees but he knew that Jasper didn’t have any other options. He wasn’t healing and even trying to trigger that hadn’t worked just like it hadn’t with Hayden so he’d had to try and now all Scott could do was wait to see if the bite took. As Jasper lifted his head and his eyes shone a golden colour just like Scott’s always used to, he felt a smile form on his face. “That’s a good sign,” he said, his own eyes shining red in response. “It looks like your wounds are healing, how are you feeling?”

Scott's life used to be so much simpler before he learned about werewolves, darachs and everything else that was out there in the world and there was a time when he had thought that it would have been so much better if he had remained in the dark. Now he knew differently though, he knew that he was meant to be a part of this world and the fact that he had become a True Alpha was proof enough of that. Scott knew that he had made plenty of mistakes along the way and he was sure to make more mistakes in the future as well but he was doing his best and he knew that that was all that he could do. He had never planned on turning anyone into a werewolf like Derek had done, he had always been content enough with the pack he had, but with Liam and Hayden he knew that they would have died otherwise and it was exactly the same with Jasper. The boy was a friend of his and Hayden and her sister had already gone through the pain of losing him once so he knew that he had to try.

He wasn't sure how much Hayden had told Jasper about the bite but Scott could still hear her scream ringing in his ears now and Jasper's wasn't any better. The pain was something that Scott was all too familiar with but he knew that it was necessary and he could only hope that the bite would take for Jasper just like it had done for Hayden before him. As he said that he was feeling better before speaking again, Scott shook his head. "Minor injuries can heal pretty quickly but major injuries can take a lot longer," he explained. "A couple of years ago I almost died and it took about a week for my body to heal completely." There were some injuries that were much easier to heal from than others so he didn't want Jasper to end up getting too complacent. "It might be the same for you, you'll need to take it easy for a while," he added. "Listen, I'm not going to force you to join the pack but if you want to, the offer is there. I can help you with all of this if you want, we all can. Pack is family."

“Trust me, it’s easier said than done sometimes,” Scott chuckled as Jasper said that he needed to avoid being killed. Mystic Falls was just like Beacon Hills in that it seemed to draw the supernatural to it but the truth was that the town was much more dangerous. He had felt guilty at first about leaving Beacon Hills behind but Mystic Falls had become home during the time that he had been there and most of the people that Scott cared about were living in the town so he knew that there wasn’t anywhere that he would rather be regardless of what dangers he and his friends might end up facing. There always seemed to be something going on in the town but it had been just the same in Beacon Hills and Scott knew that he wouldn’t be surprised if it ended up being the same regardless of where they all ended up. They were supernatural and while they could get some semblance of normality in their lives now and then they were never going to be able to leave the supernatural world behind them completely so they might as well find a way to live in it.

Of course that was easier said than done when there were people who seemed to be hunting the supernatural for money or sport but it was one of those things. One thing Scott had learned was that they were all much stronger when they were together but he knew that joining the pack had to be a choice made by each person, it wasn’t something that he would ever try and force on anyone the way that others had tried to force it on him back in Beacon Hills. There were still times when Scott wasn’t entirely sure what he was doing as an Alpha but he was trying to do right by them all and they all worked to keep each other safe. “I had to try, you’re my friend and I couldn’t let Hayden and Val lose you again without trying everything,” Scott said gently. When he became an Alpha he hadn’t wanted to turn anyone and subject them to this life but Jasper had already had that done to him by the Dread Doctors just like Hayden had so he knew that it was different. As Jasper spoke again, Scott felt a smile form on his face as he clapped Jasper on the shoulder. “In that case welcome to our crazy, somewhat dysfunctional family,” he chuckled. “Speaking of which are you feeling up to giving Hayden a call? I’m sure she’ll want to know what happened to you.”
