Danny had known that there was a chance he might end up falling prey to the same curse that so many members of his family had done before if he chose to embrace his Druid heritage rather than shy away from it the way his parents had done but he had made the decision he had done so that he could help his friends and he didn’t regret that at all. He knew that he wasn’t able to offer support in the way that Riley, Malia, Liam and some of the others could do but he was able to offer knowledge of the supernatural world and that was something that often came in handy. He had been learning as much as he could about the supernatural world so that he could help them all and deep down he knew that he probably should have said something about the curse before now but he hadn’t wanted to do that until he absolutely had to. Now Riley knew about it and Danny knew that he was definitely afflicted with it so he knew that it was only a matter of time before he would have to tell the others as well. Danny knew that he didn’t want to divert their attention from everything else that they were facing but he knew that he wouldn’t be able to stop them from doing that anyway. He had done some research on the curse before deciding to help the others so he knew what this meant but he had people to fight for and he knew that he wasn’t going to go down without a fight. He knew that he couldn’t sugar coat this for Riley though, he needed to know exactly what might happen so he could try and prepare himself for the worst but Danny still felt his heart break every time he saw the tears building in Riley’s eyes. A sigh escaped Danny’s lips as Riley kissed his throat and Danny held his boyfriend to him. “I know it is but if anyone can do it then you can. You’ve been through so much and you’ve made it through the other side, I know you can do the same with this.” That was something that he was certain of at least and it was enough to give him some comfort. The thought of leaving Riley behind scared him especially since Danny had no idea where he would end up afterwards – people who were supernatural were guaranteed to end up on the Other Side until they found peace but he had no way of knowing if that was the same for Druids – but he was doing his best to stay strong and as Riley spoke again, he couldn’t stop a laugh from escaping his lips. “You know, that actually doesn’t sound like a bad idea,” he chuckled before his expression softened as Riley confirmed that he would never give up on him. “I know you won’t,” he said gently, leaning forward and pressing a kiss to Riley’s lips. It was hard not to feel like a death sentence had literally been burned into his skin but Danny knew that Riley needed him to hold it together right now and Danny was doing his best. How he was going to tell his parents and grandparents he had no idea, they had all made it clear that it was completely his decision and that they supported him either way but he knew what this would do to them so the truth was that he wasn’t sure that he could tell them. “I won’t, I promise,” Danny assured him. “You’ll always be with me, you’re a part of me.” When Riley had died he had felt like his own heart had been ripped out of his chest too so he knew that Riley was probably feeling something similar right now. Riley’s touch to his abdomen was only light but it still had Danny wincing momentarily before the pain subsided. It was still sore at the moment but he hoped that in time it would ease, knowing that it would serve as enough of a reminder just by being there without adding constant pain to the mix as well. “I will,” he nodded, his voice sounding more confident than he felt. “Yeah they are, they’re in my room,” Danny said, pushing himself to his feet and holding a hand out to Riley. “No time like the present, let’s get started.”RILEY PARKER

Strength didn’t come from big muscles or even some thick coat of bravado you strapped on when you needed it. It was that solid core inside of you that let you step back up when the world knocked you down, a resilience, a willingness not to back down when the world came swinging yet again. The pack hadn’t just given him the family he hadn’t thought he’d ever have. They’d shown him what real strength and real bravery looked like and Riley had tried to build himself up around that. Danny’s faith in him had been that core, his love its unshakable centre, his quiet confidence that shining veneer to the whole thing. Riley had always wanted to be the same for Danny, but there’d been that tiny hope in his chest that they wouldn’t have to go through losing one another again for decades. It was foolish maybe given what they always seemed to end up facing but he’d gripped onto it tight all the same. Now his faith was being placed in the hands of their pack. Together they were going to do this, had to, and he knew that the others would agree with it. They hadn’t stopped fighting to get him back, all of them right there when he’d been brought back, they would do the same for Danny.
Riley knew Danny wanted to prepare him for if it couldn’t happen but he was fully ready to bury his head in the sand if it meant not getting trapped in that vicious circle of paralysing fear. Brows furrowing, Riley lifted his head enough to press his lips to Danny’s jaw, his temple. ”When I do,” he adjusted hoarsely, ”it’ll be because of you. I might have had the raw materials in me somewhere but you helped pulled them all together.” Now he just had to keep them that way. He wasn’t going to fall to pieces when Danny needed him most, even if it might end up feeling like he wanted to. His laugh had been a turning point, that shake of something fearful inside steadying as he raised his head to meet Danny’s eye. Riley narrowed his eyes, mock growling before Danny softened up and kissed him. ”You better be kidding,” he joked in a soft rumble against Danny’s lips. If there was anything though … he’d put everything aside to try and make it happen. They weren’t going to waste a minute of this.
His hand came up to cover Danny’s heart for a moment before he pressed another kiss to his lips, just a simple brush of his mouth that still felt like it meant so much more than that. ”Good,” Riley whispered against his mouth. That smile kicked up at one corner of his mouth as he drew back. ”You keep me right there…” He patted his hand over Danny’s heart before brushing it against his own. ”And I’ll keep you right here.” Forever might not have been such an abstract idea for some people they knew in town, it wasn’t for them either. No matter what path their lives took he was always going to hold onto this love. He’d fight like hell to keep it first though. At Danny’s wince, Riley pulled his hand back. ”Sorry.” Wincing himself, he swallowed hard. He’d be as careful as he tried to be fierce in this. Danny was standing at his suggestion of looking into what his family. Riley sat up, taking Danny’s hand to level himself up. ”Lead the way. Let’s find something and kick the ass of whoever’s coming before they get anywhere near yours.” He started up the stairs, head up, shoulders squared. Ready for the fight for the man he loved.
