It was a little scary to think just how quickly time was moving. It felt like only yesterday to Elena that she and her friends were still in high school wondering what things were going to be like when they headed off to college and now they were about to graduate from Whitmore. Four years at the school had passed by so quickly and Elena really wasn’t sure what to make of that right now. She knew that she had a long life ahead of her as a vampire, Stefan and Damon had both been alive for over a hundred and fifty years and there were vampires in town who were a lot older than that. Even just thinking about living that long was enough to blow Elena’s mind but she knew that it was a real possibility if she played her cards right. She knew that she would still have some of her friends around her if that happened and some of her family as well given that Josie had become a heretic and Jed was a hybrid but there were so many people she cared about who were mortal that she would lose one day and Elena tried to think about that as little as possible. The loss of her parents didn’t hurt as much as it had back when she was in high school but that pain was still there and she knew that she would always carry it with her. Losing people was a part of life but it was still something that Elena hoped wouldn’t end up happening for a very long time to come. For now Elena knew that she wanted to try and focus on things that were without her control and that meant getting the football field set up for graduation. She and Caroline had ended up agreeing to help and Bonnie and Tatia both had as well but the latter two had ended up being assigned different tasks which left just Elena and Caroline working on the section they were currently in. Honestly it reminded Elena of the amount of high school events they had worked on together and it was enough to make her feel more than a little nostalgic. She knew that not all friends stayed together after graduation but the same was true of high school. People often went their separate ways when they went off to college but Elena and her friends had all decided to go to the same school and they were still going to be living in the same town. She knew they were going to be busy once they started working but they would have some time together before that and Elena was looking forward to it. They had all been through so much together and it had made the bonds between them that much stronger, so strong in fact that she was certain that nothing could tear them apart. It was still odd knowing that soon they wouldn’t be students any longer and people would expect them to be actual adults, though, and Elena wasn’t too sure how to feel about that. “Can you believe we’re going to be walking across this stage soon?” she asked Caroline as they worked, not sure whether Caroline was having the same feelings that she was about it all right now. – life is tough, my darling, but so are you –
Caroline loved preparations. A little too much, some would say. But it was the kind of thing that soothed her. If she kept her hands busy, then her mind was also busy. Though, this time, she wasn't doing this to distract herself. She was, actually, in a pretty good mood. Although, she couldn't deny that she was a little nervous about what the future may hold. But, right now, she was living day by day without worrying herself too much about the future even though that sort of thing was so unlike Caroline Forbes who thought everything out from beginning to finish, but when it's your future, it's something else entirely.
It's not some sort of trip or a decoration for a party. It was her future. Caroline continued with her task, only stopping when she heard Elena's words. "Oh, it feels..." Caroline glanced over at the stage, wondering just when that anxiety will simmer and die down. Maybe as she's walking the stage. God, it didn't exactly sound like a fun time, did it? Well, maybe that will change once she's got her diploma in her hand and she could hear the cheers of everyone else. It will be a very worthy I did it moment. "Surreal. I feel like I'm gonna wake up at any moment to the sound of my alarm and find that I've got class at Mystic High in an hour." Caroline said with a brief chuckle falling from her lips not long after as she returned back to her task. "But, life goes on, and so will we. As scary as that sounds." Caroline said with a shrug of her shoulders following. "But this isn't the end of us... Right? We're still going to bother each other every single day, right?"
