Elena was always the girl next door. Kind and friendly to everyone despite being a cheerleader and one of the popular girls, she always found it easy to make strong connections with people and didn't mind who she befriended. Her life was perfect until everything came crashing down when she was only fifteen years old. Her parents died which left her to deal with survivor's guilt having been the only one to survive their car going off the bridge and she distanced herself from everyone for a while as she tried to process her grief. She was eventually taken in by her aunt Jenna when she felt ready to become legal guardian for both her and Jeremy and Elena is now a part of the extended Saltzman family. During her sophomore year she met Stefan Salvatore and her eyes were opened to the supernatural world, one that she was born into due to her being a doppelganger, and ever since then Elena has been fighting alongside her friends to keep everyone safe. She became a vampire at the end of her senior year after she died from blood loss as a result of Klaus draining her blood to make hybrids but she died with Stefan's blood in her system. Elena has now graduated from college and was looking forward to starting her new career as a junior reporter but she was taken by the Ghost Riders before that could happen and has been trapped in the train station ever since.

Friends;; Friendly and outgoing, Elena has never let anyone tell her who she can and can't be friends with. Her best friends are mostly people she has grown up with but a couple who have only been in her life for the last few years are considered to be among that group as well. She finds it easy to get along with people and make friends, forming strong connections with those she is able to get to know which can be both a blessing and a curse at times.

Enemies;; Looking just like Katherine means that there are no shortage of people who will end up mistaking the two and some have even wanted to kill her for it. Katherine herself falls into the enemy category after everything she did to the Salvatores and the way she likes to impersonate Elena, as does Klaus Mikaelson for being the one to ultimately kill her. Elena doesn't normally start hating people that easily but when she does or when someone breaks her trust it can take her a long time to change her mind about that person.

Lovers;; Elena is no stranger to love. She dated Matt in her freshman year after the two of them grew up together and she felt like she owed it to both of them to see if they could be something more. He became her first love but she broke up with him after her parents died and started dating Stefan six months later. Elena decided to become a vampire so they could be together but that choice was taken from her by Klaus. Just over three years ago she realised she had lost sense of who she was and she and Stefan wanted different things so they ended their relationship. Since then Elena has dated a few times but it has never felt right with any of the guys so she is open so something new.
