Raf hadn’t known a thing about the supernatural world before he had triggered his curse, he had grown up in the foster system moving around from one home to another and never staying in one place for too long. It had been an accident that had seen him triggering his curse, a bend taken too fast out of anger that had ended up costing his girlfriend her life, and after that Raf’s life had been turned upside down in a whole new way. He had thought that he was losing his mind at first but he’d had Landon there by his side helping him and Raf knew that he would have been lost a long time ago if not for his brother. They weren’t related by blood but they had grown close while they were living with Hector and Maria. Raf had done his best to hide the abuse he had suffered at Hector’s hands from Landon and he had tried to take the heat off his brother as much as possible. Landon had stood by him even after he’d triggered his curse and through everything that had happened since. Honestly, Raf wouldn’t have blamed Lan for turning his back on him after he became a hybrid and ended up taking his brother’s life but he hadn’t done. That was how they had learned what Landon was, a phoenix, but Raf still carried the guilt of taking Landon’s life around with him even now. He had tried leaving, he had written a letter to Landon and their friends explaining why he’d decided he had to get as far away from the school as possible, but they had brought him back and Raf had promised them that he would stay. For too long he’d let the words of the other students saying that he didn’t belong at the school any longer get under his skin and he’d started to believe them. Landon and the others had shown him that he was wrong and Raf knew that he wasn’t going to leave their side again. They had been there for him through everything and he knew that it was only fair that he do the same for them. They had helped him get himself under control after learning about his lunar psychosis and even though there were still a few slip ups along the way, he liked to think that he was doing better. It wasn’t always easy given that being part vampire meant that his emotions were heightened while being a werewolf meant that he had the anger that went along with it but he was doing his best and he knew that he couldn’t do anything more than that. Lately he’d had everything that was going on with Raziel to throw himself into and it was easier doing that than it was dwelling on things. Hope and Josie had both died during the first fight against the angel and even though they had come back, Raf knew that wasn’t the point. Hope’s vampire side had been activated that day while Josie had woken up a heretic after dying with Hope’s blood in her system. Neither of them had asked for it to happen just like Raf hadn’t when he was killed because his name was put on the hitlist but it was done and they were stronger now for it. Jed had become a hybrid now as well although for him it had been his choice so that he could be with Ben and become stronger. Raziel had caught them off guard the first time but they were all that much stronger now and Raf had to believe that they would be ready the next time the angel attacked. That day he had been training with some of the squad to get ready for the fight but as the training session wound down and Raf spotted Landon, Raf promised that he would catch up with them later. “Hey Lan,” he called as he ran to catch up with his brother. “How did the date with Eli go?” he asked, glad that Landon had decided to take that leap and ask out the girl he liked rather than holding off. – I am wounded with knife, sting, and tooth –
To say that things were hectic would be the biggest understatement. But, things have also been looking up to him when he finally found the courage to ask Adelina out. It had been a bold move, especially for someone like Landon who always found it easier to remain in the safe zone and not venture out too far. But, he was happy to say that things had gone better than expected and when Landon heard Rafael's voice, he came to a stop and turned to look at his brother, smiling at him. "Hey, Raf." Landon greeted him.
"I don't wanna jinx it, but it went really well, actually." Landon almost had to resist the urge to bounce a little like an excited high schooler, but he held back the urge, of course. He was just really happy that things were looking up for once. "How are things going with you?" Landon asked, looking behind him at the other people that Landon had been training with. "Not pushing yourself too far, I hope?" Landon added, his worried eyes drifting back to his brother. "I want to kick that angel's ass as much as the next person, but I don't want you pushing yourself too far, okay?"
