It were as though her voice had become an echo. Remiel stared at the soul whose Heaven he’d delivered a message to – as though the angel who had passed it to him were incapable of coming back up here herself – and watched the man’s lips move, but it was not his voice he heard.
The most beautiful kingdom on earth. The sort that made this town look like little more than a trash heap, which in her opinion (and she gave it often, despite choosing to remain here) the town very much was. Its people not fit to fall at her feet, the disrespect, the fashion. He was baring his teeth, hand twitching with the temptation to rip the memory of it from his mind. Unfortunately, unless he tore the demon from the town in the same way, that racket would just come back the next time she came to him looking for protection from the consequences of her behaviour.
Unfortunately the beast seemed incapable of opening her eyes to what was really out there. Remiel let out a long breath. There was a reason he remained in Mystic Falls – and in his host – for so long, and that wasn’t because the town was something to be scraped from your boots the moment you stepped from it. The best of humanity could be found there, the fact that the worst was alongside them only highlighted what it was they should all be fighting for. Of course, the demon was among the worst. A vain, greedy, corrupting creature, who had latched onto him like a…
”What are those creatures called?” Remiel asked idly, finally focussing on the man’s eyes again. ”The ones that live in foul water and draw blood from your flesh when they fix upon you?”
Confusion clouded the man’s eyes, but it didn’t matter, Gabriel was already supplying the answer. A leech and she is nothing like that.
The fool. Remiel lifted a hand to cut the human before him off and stepped back. ”If there is anything more, I will come again.” In the meantime she had to see a leech about proving her wrong. Not that he believed it would do much to silence her, but perhaps.
Peace might continue to be in short supply in Mystic Falls afterwards, but at least that glittery, razor of a tongue would stop slicing at him. Perhaps it would stop her from trying to beguile him again too. He had not allowed it since before she had invited herself along to Heaven. It had stopped her trying, though, using all of her wiles to try and have him falling. Big blue eyes looking up at him wide with fear, narrowed with disgust, slitted with something that should not have happened between them. Ugh. Swallowing back his own disgust, he went back down to the town.
It didn’t take much to find her. The creature didn’t have the brains to hide as she should – not when there were people out there who might fall at her supposedly regal feet. Twenty minutes of searching and he had fixed upon her location. She would be glad to see him, of course, he had become her only entertainment here. Never failing to offer an opportunity for her to twist him – and Gabriel – around those delicate fingers. She would not get to toy with him this time though.
”I had thought you might, perhaps, be torturing the local children … or belittling another dry cleaner over their lack of appreciation for your gown.” The one that always clung beguilingly to curves that were not hers. Stolen beauty was no beauty at all. Remiel took a few steps closer, his chin coming up as though he could hold an imperious attitude up as a shield. ”I want you to come with me.” As though she couldn’t possibly have anything else to do. It wasn’t as though she had taken Lucifer’s side in this war, her plans were far smaller, although no less vicious when it came to him.
