Things have been really good lately for Kiba. He had a new girlfriend and was now a father to two beautiful children. Part of him was so happy even though Paisley had suddenly vanished without a trace and even though she promised she wouldn't do this to him. Kiba had this done to him before with aurielle. It seemed like everyone he loved just got up and left him. Kiba decided that after this he was not going to open his heart up, love isn't worth the hassle and heartbreak. He got his children to think about now and they are the only thing that matters to him
Since the kids were busy doing their own thing right now, Kiba returned to his favourite place and the exact spot where he met Paisley, hoping she was here waiting for him. But he was wrong and he sighed as he just shook his head 'let her go buddy' he thought to himself. Kiba sat on the rock and looked at the scenery just blocking out stuff in his surroundings. He wouldn't know if there was anything or anyone nearer. Kiba knew he was safe as not many people know what he was. He was acting like a normal human, so he wasn't going to panic. Also he would expect it to be his kids trying to scare him

Kicking the underbrush back over the concrete slab, Chris sighed. He’d spent months pouring over maps of the woods, tracing every tunnel, every manhole, every basement he could find and checking them out. That was after he’d read the book on the Dread Doctors cover to cover, piecing together their possibly fictional MO to try and match it to what lay on the ground in Mystic Falls. The problem was that the town had shifted and expanded over the years, the earliest areas of habitation, the ones least likely to appear on those maps sporting rambling basements and root sellers, servants quarters that the woods were slowly reclaiming. Perfect spots to hunker down to work on your twisted little experiments without being seen. Perfect for dumping people in their shallow graves out here too. Just far enough from town that nobody was going to stumble over them before the experiments themselves could claw their way out.
Heading back to the trail, Chris glanced at the tomb Derek had been found in, just visible beyond the tree line. Stiles and the others had scoured the place after but there’d been no clue about Derek had been between there and Beacon Hills and no amount of searching had found anything since. It had played on Derek’s mind, even after Scott had turned him back, and he doubted it would stop hanging like a millstone around his neck until they had some sort of answers.
There were still folks going missing in town, those that returned watched like hawks by those who knew what could happen in those days they were out of sight. Some had certainly been experimented on, although, understandably, most were reticent to talk about it. The lines cut deeper into Chris’ expression as he headed down the trail, towards the spot where he’d pulled his truck off road. They hadn’t stopped looking, but how much longer would the experiments go on here before the Dread Doctors eventually decided to move on as they always had done before? Maybe there’d never be closure on it all, just that niggling doubt that he could’ve done more following him the same way the nogitsune had until one of them had raised their ugly head to carve the centre out of his life, almost like it was in payback.
Chris slowed at the sight of someone lingering at the edge of a clearing. Not skulking, there wasn’t anything suspicious about someone else’s presence out here this time, no alarm bells ringing in the back of his head. As he got closer he recognised the man. Both brows rose as he made sure he made enough noise that Kiba couldn’t miss that he was there. ”Long time no see,” he said lightly as he approached. ”I wasn’t sure if you’d left town again. Are you back with the sheriff’s department?” Chris’ gaze skimmed over the man. When he’d found Kiba out here in the woods the first time the man had been in no state to be with the department, whatever had happened to turn him almost feral had faded eventually, but that sort of thing left its mental scars.

Kiba was focused on being a father, he didn't even bother trying to get his job back. Being a house husband and keeping tabs on his daughter as she was the wild one and flirting with the boys, she was tiring him out fast. He never had much time with them as babies as they grew up so fast. Their genes were different from his though, they didn't shift when old enough. He didn't understand that side of the gene. He could as the hunter for more help on it if he bump into him, right now he was playing with children even though they weren't little but his son was a prankster at heart, and loved to scare him
Kiba was going to do the big boo towards what he thought was his son until he knew the voice and it was the hunter Chris. He didn't expect the guy to be here. Standing up he showed a friendly greeting towards the man. He was able to have his family thanks to him helping him and not shooting him hey I didn't expect you to be here. How are you? he asked as he heard the question about him getting his job back, kiba shooked his head no I haven't, in fact I have been busy, I have children now, twins in fact he didn't want to tell him that paisley as gone too, as he didn't want to overload him
so I am focused on keeping them safe from the dangers in this awful place. I have seen it myself he mentioned as he didn't mine the hunter's company I just want to say thank you for saving my life he went back to sitting on the rock and just chilled again waiting to see the hunter would join him or go ahead with his day

Kiba looked better than he had the last time he’d seen him. Chris returned the man’s friendly greeting with a nod, and something as close as he got to a smile. His first meeting with Kiba hadn’t filled him with any confidence for the werewolf’s future, but whatever it was that had left him feral then seemed to have worn off. It was one success in a long line of what felt like failures in Mystic Falls. ”There’s always something to bring me back out here,” he told the man honestly. The trouble in this town was as never ending as it had been in Beacon Hills, unfortunately. His people had continued to try and help keep it corralled but with things like Dread Doctors still loose, it was a vicious circle and it felt as though he was constantly chasing his tail around it.
Chris took a few steps closer, bobbing his head slowly as though considering Kiba’s question. ”I’m well enough. You know what it’s like – always busy here.” But he couldn’t complain too hard while he had his daughter back here – albeit with a strained relationship between the two of them. After all that had happened Chris guessed he couldn’t ask for anything more there yet. He’d been about to turn the question back on Kiba when the man spoke again. His brows rose, surprise lightening his expression for a moment. How long had it been since he’d last seen him? ”Being a father will always keep you busy. Congratulations. I guess paternity leave’s gonna put going back to the department on the back burner, if you’re still interested in getting your job back that is.” He hadn’t taken enough time off when Allison had been born, he knew that now. Guilt knotted in the pit of his stomach for a moment. His job had always taken president and no amount of regret could go back and change that all now.
Concern pinched at Chris. They’d all seen the dangers in town first hand, he was hoping it had all been over and done with for Kiba. The man seemed stable mentally, so at least that was a sign that there hadn’t been a repeat of what had happened before. ”That’s understandable,” Chris murmured, his brows drawing together faintly. ”Has anything else happened since I saw you the last time?” There was always news of deaths and missing persons, accidents and tragedies, splashed across the front pages of the newspapers, but no stories that would’ve lead him to think that any of the people he’d ended up acquaintances here were in trouble. ”You don’t have to thank me,” he assured Kiba as he settled on the other end of the rock. Chris propped his forearms on his knees, looking sidewards at Kiba. ”What you were doing that night wasn’t a choice. I’m just glad we could break whatever it was that had happened to you. There’s been no signs of it since?” He’d kept an eye out for it, but plenty happened in this town that didn’t ping on his radar.

Kiba didn't remember much of what happened that night. He was just having a normal stroll and suddenly he was seeing his alpha being killed by everyone he had bumped into and it was really scary. I don't remember much from that night. All I do remember was walking through the woods and suddenly I was having images of people attacking my alpha. I have never raged like that before. I had no idea I had it in me he admitted. Kiba was always told he was weak as he would never fight back. The other pups would always ganged up on him and beat him up, every single time. I don't even remember what happened when I returned home. All I had when I came too was a letter saying never return Kiba had no clue that he is alpha made him kill, took his memories and exiled him from the pack
Kiba didn't even know his wolf eye was now blue. He hated the fact he was missing time, but he was getting used to it now and the twins were able to keep their brain focused on something else. There are more missing people? he asked him as he was little concerned about this now do you need any help? I was the best tracker back in Sweden. I may not be a cop but I am willing to help anyway I possibly can he offered as he didn't mind helping the hunter, he did save his life after all
Kiba wondered if Paisley could have been a victim of these missing people since she hasn't come back home and this isn't like her. Their son kept asking for her and he didn't know what to say. There is something. Paisley is missing. She went to work as normal two weeks ago, but she never returned home. I tried to call her but her phone goes to voicemail. Have you seen her in your searches? he asked, he didn't think he would have but there was no harm in asking right?
Kiba went back to watching the trees as he sensed his children were hiding even though they were basically adults. They still like to practise hiding as it was a survival skill to avoid hunters are you able to tell why my kids haven't shifted yet? They both were born werewolves but they didn't go through their first shift. Paisley was what is known as triggered but I don't know what means font asked as he never heard of this kind of wolf of course so he asked for help so he was able to prepare his kids the best he could
anyone else would have shot me at sight or killed me, not to shoot to disable me. Though I do not want to experience that again as it was very painful and it took me ages to heal from those wounds he can moan about it in a very sarcastic way but he knew it was necessary at the time. I am just glad you stop me before I he couldn't finished the sentence as the thought was enough, he just didn't want to go like that ever

Under the right circumstances any supernatural creature could turn feral. Vampires could turn off their emotions as quickly and as simply as turning off a light, switching them back on was far more difficult. Compulsion could break human minds, although not supernatural ones. Witches, warlocks, psychics and probably a half dozen other things could leave anything delusional and he’d considered every single one of them once he’d had Kiba secured in the cell and none of them had seemed to fit what he’d seen.
Chris made a low sound in his throat, his brows drawing closer together. If there had been any more trouble like that in town then he’d heard nothing of it, and he was sure that it would’ve been screamed on the hunter grapevine. ”Any shifter is capable of it, no matter how peacefully they usually live,” he told Kiba honestly. ”No wolf should have to go without a pack, but it seems like you might have had a lucky escape from yours.” Not that Kiba was likely to see it that way. It would be like a limb had been cut off, the greater sum of all your parts left weaker for not having a pack around you. It wasn’t that different to losing your family – Allison’s death had taken what little strength he’d seemed to have left.
In a town like Mystic Falls you needed that strength to survive. Before Allison had been returned it had been starting to filter back, but getting his daughter back had been the catalyst to set him back on the path his family had been on for centuries. A wry smile touched Chris’ lips as he nodded. ”This is Mystic Falls, there are always missing people, unfortunately.” Chris’ smile fell as he shook his head. ”I don’t have anything concrete enough for you to help with right now. You need a starting point to look for people and most who disappear they haven’t found that for yet.” Those that they could get a trail on would eventually be avenged, even if it took years to track those things down.
The frown that creased Chris’ brow deepened as he settled on the log next to Kiba. The last wolf he’d met who had lost a partner had also seemed to lose his mind. He’d shown leniency with him once, but the next time there was a greater chance he would have to die to protect the lives of others in this town. ”I haven’t seen her,” he confirmed. ”Have you reported it to the sheriff’s department? Or tried tracking her yourself?” If Kiba had been as good a tracker as he had said, then there should have been some trace of Paisley – although in Mystic Falls, with the threats they were currently facing you never could tell.
There were obviously still mysteries out there that were plaguing Kiba. From the sounds of things the werewolf’s alpha had told him little of the supernatural world out there and hadn’t instilled in him the survival instincts he should’ve had. There were three kinds of wolves, the born wolves were the luckiest, their transition came without the same sort of struggle as the others. They were still beholden to the moon and had to find an anchor to help fight their instincts when they turned. He studied the tree line around them, where he was sure Kiba’s kids were watching him. ”To trigger the werewolf gene in your DNA you need to kill someone. It’s not something you would wish on your kids, no matter how much you would want them to be like you. Are they temperamental? Do they get angry for no reason that they should?” If they did it would be a sign that they took after their mother rather than their father. Some of the grim left his expression as he glanced at the man beside him. Gerard certainly wouldn’t have let him live, not even if he kept him caged for a time to figure out what was wrong with him and if it could be cured. ”I’m glad you were stopped to, although I’m not sure there was anything I did that managed to cure you. If you ever see a sign of it again, or hear of anything else like it happening, you will tell me?” It was those hints, those bits of gossip that often set him on the trail of a hunt, and not all of them ended with just an unfortunate death.

Being without a pack didn't make much difference for him. It seemed to be the same life for him. He was a loner by nature before he met Paisley he was going to try the pack thing again, since for some reason he turned on him. His alpha started he was a traitor for being friendly with a hunter, even though he was still here thanks to him. To tell you the truth, I felt I never truly fitted in a pack setting. I mean I was abandoned by my birth pack and then my adopted one exiled me. Maybe being in that setting isn't for me. I survived this long on my own. I am not my own anymore he said as he was enjoying the fatherhood
Kiba understood well if you ever need me, you know where to find me. My offer will always stand for you he smiled at himself, but this suddenly dropped when he mentioned about the sheriff with the workload you think they even put in effort for my girlfriend? I know how it works there, so no I haven't reported her to them kiba have been tracking for days, he have lost count on how many days that was as he been busy with the children and keeping them safe as well yes I have. I have been tracking her trying to catch her scent for a few days. But it 's gone cold, it stops by the stream
Only temperamental outburst I see is from my daughter when I tell her something, but that's just teenager traturms. I had them when I was young kiba honestly didn't want his children killing anyone as that was his fear kill? Man, I don't want them to do that. It something I try to avoid, I don't know what I do if I accidentally hurt another of course kiba had no idea that his alpha had him kill another and took those memories away, so without his knowledge his wolf eyes are now blue
Kiba listened to the hunter again. He didn't know if he would have been sitting here today if he bumped into another hunter. Paisley has taught me to accept the other side of me. I learnt new things from her as I wanted to avoid that indinct. I don't want to go through that again he explained as I heard him saying would you tell me? kiba didn't think he would need to as he had someone who was loyal, he thought she was loyal
You're the only hunter I ever trust. If I feel something is going off I would try my best to let you know. Just promise me that you will not let me hurt another person it seemed to be a fair deal between them, he thought. Only problem I have is that I used to shift with Paisley and she is gone. I have been chaining myself up in an abandoned place, but I don't know how much longer I can do that. That's the only worry I have at this time

Gerard would’ve said that some weren’t worthy of being in a pack. The weakest in them were often picked off – for the sake of those that were left, since a pack was only as strong as its weakest member. Chris had seen it work another way with Scott’s. They were family as much as anything else and rallied around the weak to make sure they weren’t harmed. Some hunters would’ve been disgusted with it, but Chris had stopped feeling that way when he realised that his daughter was a part of it and had been protected by it. ”You have a pack now,” Chris agreed, knowing that Kiba meant those that were in the trees around them. ”It might not come with an alpha, but I think it’s what you need.” He doubted that Kiba would rise up and become an Alpha on the strength of his will, but who knew. Family changed you, after all.
Kiba might not have been a deputy anymore, but some part of the man obviously still wanted to help. Chris almost wished there was something he could offer him – there probably would be soon anyway, Mystic Falls had a way of swallowing people up. ”It’s appreciated,” he told the man. If Paisley was missing and had been reported to the sheriff Forbes would already have her people out there looking for her. ”They’d still investigate,” he argued on Forbes’ part. Kiba wasn’t entirely wrong though. If there was a supernatural element to it, Forbes would ignore it. The town was still in denial about that part of their little problem here. Chris glanced back up to the slope towards where the stream lay as Kiba laid out what he’d done. ”Maybe head downstream. If she went in here it doesn’t guarantee that she didn’t come out somewhere else along its length.” It was an animal’’s way of avoiding being tracked, using the water to hide their scent.
Chuckling, Chris nodded. ”Age doesn’t change that,” he assured Kiba. He and Victoria had already been married a couple of years when they’d had Allison, and he hadn’t exactly been a typical twenty-something then. The world they’d lived in had hardened him. ”Once she’s older it’ll change. My daughter was the same.” And now there was a wedge between him and Allison he wasn’t sure he could erase. Chris shifted, propping his forearms back on his knees as he glanced at Kiba. ”They don’t have. They don’t even have to become werewolves. You can all live in peace without that.” He’d seen that Kiba wasn’t the sort inclined towards violence and that meant he was less likely to end up with a target on his back again.
From what Kiba was telling him, Kiba had been helping him to adjust to what he was. Perhaps if she was still here, some of the fears he seemed to be suffering from again would ease. He’d put out a description out to his people, would see if they could find some lead on her whereabouts. ”She was right. Like I’ve told you before, you don’t have to go through any of that again. There are plenty of people like you in town managing to live peaceful lives.” There were plenty who weren’t too, but he wasn’t going to bring them up now.
”I appreciate that,” Chris told him honestly, as Kiba admitted that he trusted him. He held his hands up as though he could partly ward off the promise he was asking him for. ”I can’t promise that you won’t ever do it, but if it’s within my power to make sure that you don’t, you have my word.” There were plenty of things that could happen in this town without him even knowing about it though. People were hurt every day, no matter how hard he tried to keep his new home safe. While a lot of shifters ran in these woods on the full moon, there were also those who chained themselves up, those without anchors, those terrified of what they might do. It seemed as though Kiba was amongst them. ”Do want me to check out your set up?” he asked, raising a brow. He’d helped guide Scott and the others through it before, had seen it work for some of them until they adjusted well enough to do without the chains.

In the city of fools, I was careful and cool but they tore me apart like a hurricane.
Kiba didn't know what Paisley would have wanted. Since there had to be a reason for her just leaving like this, since she wouldn't abandon her children like this. Or maybe Kiba wasn't the good tracker he believed he was before. Everything was stressful since he was juggling with protecting his family, shifting away from them and searching for their mum all at the same time. Kiba was exhausted from it all, and he hasn't had a decent night's rest since she was gone. When Chris mentioned a pack, Kiba delincied it there is no pack here. Just my family. A pack is always formed by an alpha, I would never be that. I am not strong enough when Paisley was here, maybe they were a pack, as she had the leadership skills and much more. Without her being here there is nothing
Downstream of course. I should have realised that he couldn't believe he was so dumb on that and he was supposed to be the tracker. I will hold off the cops for now. I am not sure if she wanted that. I am pretty sure if I remember correctly she didn't trust them. Not sure how she came trust me through, but then again I am not cop anymore he smiled as kept thinking of his kids on what he going to tell them as he been keeping it a secret from them for good long time now I guess I have to tell the kids the truth. I know my son is going to take it the hardest, as he is close to his mum. I was hoping to have answers and more importantly bring her home before having to tell them that she missing and I don't know she will come back this happened to him before Aurielle went missing on him without a trace, it seems he hitting bad luck with everyone lately
I would never forgive myself if I killed someone. No matter what therapy would get me to forget the words that I hurt another person. Even if it was self defence I still wouldn't forgive myself of course kiba didn't know he already had hurt someone. When he returned back to Sweden to his pack. His alpha made him forget by removing his memories. I just want us all to live and co-exist with each other. I taught my children to do meditation through the full moon and it seemed to help their aggression peak with the moon. It helps me but I don't want to take the chance he hated the chains as he was always bruised up and forced to wear a collar it made like some pet dog, but he was willing to put up the hilumation if it meant no-one would become in contact with him and get hurt
Kiba was happy to show him what he's been using for the past shifts, he can't remember how many they were exactly sure I would appreciate that very much. It is this way kiba basically led the hunter to the deeper part of the woods where he chain a thick old tree that been clawed and bitten to death every time he shifted, but luckily a deer he killed that morning was enough to keep the wolf happy until the moon passes and he woken up with more bruises. There was a heavy metal collar that had silver studs in place which burned and hurt but it helped him keep his human side and not fully go rouge again here it is, not ideal but it kept me contained for now. I heal from the marks whatever they may be they may hurt and Kiba hated it, but he didn't know what else he could do. Especially since he haven't slept properly for a long time

Chris shook his head as Kiba turned his words back on him. It wasn’t the first time he’d tried to talk to him about finding another pack here, but each time Kiba seemed resistant, as though it was something he didn’t think he deserved. Maybe he wasn’t strong enough to become a true Alpha, but he obviously wanted to protect his family no matter what and that would draw them together in a way that Kiba likely hadn’t considered. ”Not always,” Chris said lightly, before he dropped the subject. Maybe in time another of the packs here would take Kiba and his kids in. Not all of them were led by tyrants like Deucalion, Scott was proof of that.
As a tracker and a trained deputy, Kiba had probably searched every inch of these woods, but when it was someone you loved, things slipped through the net. Chris made a low sound in his throat, shaking his head. It wasn’t as though Victoria had trusted people outside the family either. ”Trust or not, there might be a point you come to where it’s your only option to get help trying to find her,” Chris pointed out. His gaze ticked in the direction of where Kiba’s kids had been just a shower while ago. ”They don’t know that she’s gone yet?” he asked, his brow furrowing. ”It might be time to come clean. News or not, they’re gonna figure out something’s wrong in the end.” Allison had, even before Victoria had died. Her suspicions had been pulling her away from the two of them and then the worst had happened and he’d been so sure he’d lost her for good over the half truths they’d spent years telling her.
Others might have suspected Kiba of whatever had happened to his girlfriend, the partner was always suspect number one in disappearances, but he’d seen the way things weighed on Kiba’s shoulders and Chris knew he couldn’t have done it. ”There’s a big difference between being able to forgive yourself and learning to live with it,” Chris said quietly, shifting on the rock. He’d certainly done a lot of the latter, not so much of the self-forgiveness. There were plenty of things in his life he would regret until the grave. Kiba’s Alpha had made sure it would be far worse for him. He couldn’t pick apart what his former pack had done to him, but he got the feeling that none of it had been good. ”There are plenty of people who want the same thing, but in places like this it’s not so easy,” he said in a low voice. An anchor would help to keep both Kiba’s kids sane during the full moon, but it seemed as though their father had far more trouble with it.
He rose as Kiba did, following the werewolf through the trees. Chris scanning the space around them as they walked, wondering if his kids were following them there. Eventually they reached a large old tree, bearing fresh scars of what happened there come the full moon. Others had probably seen it on those nights, steering clear of the wolf shackled to it. Chris eyed the collar and frowned, but nodded at Kiba. ”It’s easier to heal the physical than the mental,” he said tightly. ”Inside would be better, but this is safe enough for now. Do you have an anchor?” That would be the biggest help during full moons, but not all were capable to finding one, or holding onto them. If Paisley had been that for Kiba then it was no surprise that he was struggling again now.

In the city of fools, I was careful and cool but they tore me apart like a hurricane.
Kiba truly thought things were different this time. He believed that Paisley was the one who would keep him safe from the dangers at night. She promised to be there always when she discovered him that day, when he hit rock bottom. Where he was exiled from his homeland and pack that he always knew. Paisley was working on getting him to agree with the pack idea, as hevknew being alone isn't smart and in fact made him more vulnerable, but he just can't trust another alpha. I just can't trust another pack after the bad experience from the last two. I had nothing but felt like I didn't belong. If they accept the children and it means their safety is secure, then I let them go. But I know I am just distended to be a alone the lost and being betrayed all over again was shown in his tone of voice as he just looked at the landscape ahead, just lost in his own mind
Even though you took one weapon off me that day, it made no difference as I had a spare. After we separated that day, I was going to end it all. But she stopped me and made a promise to me. Like a fool I believed her and she not only left me but she left them too he was hurting, but he was hiding it to be strong for the children how can I tell them? I have no idea how to answer the questions they will ask me Kiba knew she wasn't dead, Paisley was a strong and smart wolf. She was able to seduce him and they had some wild times together. I don't trust the cops. When I told them Aurielle was missing, they weren't too concerned. So I doubt there is concern about Paisley. Knowing them they might lock me up and start to excuse me, and that will not be a good idea with my condition now isn't it. Also I will not see my children again. So I rather not go that route
Hopefully they have inherited the same gene as Paisley and not worry about shifting, unless they hurt someone. I would make sure that will never happen to them kiba knew accidents do happen. He remembered how Paisley triggered her own cruse from an accident, it didn't matter as someone was a killer. The gene was so cruel at times and it didn't care. I know accidents do happen, we were planning on telling them about their other side after this full moon, so they don't need to be afraid. I am still planning on doing that
don't worry the kids will not come here, they know this path is forbidden he explained to him. Even looking at the collar gave him anxiety. He couldn't do this again. The pain was too much, he was planning not to chain himself this time. I can't do it again Chris. The pain is too much. I might be able to heal fast, but the sores are too much from the fighting with the chains, I don't think I be able to lock those chains again this time at least the hint was there, showing he wasn't going to chain himself this time around and was going to let himself roam free as he knew he wasn't rouge and not dangerous
I don't have an anchor anymore, Paisley was my latest one. But I don't need one. I am not dangerous or rogue, my wolf side stays away from people and just happy runs and hunting deer. I am not badly affected by whatever made me go crazy the last time Kiba knew without an anchor, the hunter might not believe him. He wasn't sure what the hunter would do with the news, as kiba was serious about not chaining himself this time around

Chris would have encouraged Kiba to just give it time, but having heard each story from him about his bad experiences with packs, he wasn’t sure if he’d ever be able to shrug off his past to accept being a part of the pack again. ”Safety’s important for both them and you,” he merely said lightly. Maybe the kids would help Kiba more than time would, just in the same way that Allison had been the one to change him in the end. You did things to protect your children that you would never do for yourself.
He had seen echoes between himself and Kiba right back when he’d first met the man and it had left him sympathetic towards the guy. Kiba had struggled with what had been done with him and had given him his weapon as a way to avoid doing any harm to himself. He’d taken the gun that day, sure that Kiba would remain safe, but apparently he’d been wrong. Chris’ expression flattened as Kiba told him that he’d had a second weapon and it was Paisley who had saved him that day instead. Shaking his head at him as they walked, Chris tried to brush off the idea that Kiba had been a fool to trust Paisley. ”You can’t think like that. You’re not a fool for falling in love with someone and believing what they’ve told you. Sometimes circumstances are out of your control and it doesn’t sound to me like Paisley had any intention to leave you.” Or their kids.
His pale eyes swept the trees, looking for the kids. They’d be out there somewhere, hopefully not hearing what their father was telling him yet. ”As a dad you won’t always have the answers, but they deserve to hear something about it,” he told the man beside him. ”The cops here have a lot on their plate, but they’re not going to lock up an innocent man. If you had nothing to do with Paisley’s disappearance they won’t blame you for it. It’ll just give you more resources in trying to find her.” Law enforcement in this world wasn’t infallible, innocent people had been incarcerated before, but he had faith in Liz Forbes. Despite the hurdles she faced, she was a good woman.
In time things would become clear, he supposed. Paisley would either appear or she wouldn’t, the kids would perhaps turn in time. With both of their parents werewolves there was little chance that they’d been born entirely human. Chris knew what it was like to be desperate for your kids to have an easier life than you did, but you couldn’t always predict what was coming for them. He made a low sound in his throat, nodding at Kiba. ”I guess you just have to wait and see. Telling them what might happen could keep them safer.” Hopefully they would accept what their father was telling them and would do their best to avoid trouble.
In a town like this it might still find them, as it seemed to keep finding their dad. Chris let out a sigh as Kiba tried to tell him about how he couldn’t cope with shifting again. He turned towards Kiba, shaking his head with sympathy written all over his face. ”There’s no way to cure what you are, Kiba. As painful as it is, you can’t stop it from happening. Have you fought it before? Have you felt how bad it can be if you don’t allow it to happen?” Being human he hadn’t felt it himself, he’d spent half his life thinking he’d have to take his own life if the worst did happen, but he’d heard enough from people to know that fighting the shift only prolonged the agony.
”You need to find one,” Chris told Kiba, leaving no room for argument. ”Without one you’ll continue to struggle through the change. It doesn’t matter if you’re dangerous or you’re a rogue wolf. You can’t control what the wolf does when you’ve shifted. You need a way to hold on to yourself. That’s how all of this works.” If Kiba was part of a pack they’d make sure he was safe, but alone there was a chance he’d end up harming someone while he was trying to do things his own way and he knew that it would destroy the man if he killed something other than a deer during a full moon. It would paint a target on his back that would leave his children alone and vulnerable.

In the city of fools, I was careful and cool but they tore me apart like a hurricane.
My safety doesn't matter. I have learnt to survive on my own. But with being young I rather have an experienced and better teacher than myself to train them to control. Paisley mentioned they were more like her, which isn't something I can help. They get very moody while the full moon is around and they get more rebellious. So if you know anyone that can help with this let me know kiba wasn't embarrassed to ask for help, he preferred it this way. He thought Cairo was able to help him, but instead he exiled him
Kiba had seen it, a hunter shot at him as he deliberately sabotaged some evidence to make Aurielle untrackable and he even drove her away. you never heard about indinct of me sabotaging the murder scene before I left mystic falls? oh boy how was he going to explain this one there was a hunter looking for Aurielle and excusing her of a murder she didn't commit. Knowing that she was a vampire I damaged the scene deliberately making some of the evidence unusable he knew this got him in trouble, but it happened a long time ago the jerk shot at me after that. I never seen the hunter again
Kiba was planning on telling them this time. He even considered showing them the proof in a safe environment showing he wasn't lying, but mystic falls always showed you the truth when you didn't want to know it I will tell them tonight. That's what Paisley would have wanted he wouldn't change his mind on that
I think you misunderstood what I said. I can't chain and shift again. The mental torture of the silver burning my skin throughout the night isn't pretty. I can't he signed I wouldn't do it again. You understand now? he asked. Kiba was thinking of his question. No Cairo always told me it wasn't safe to hold back the shift. If the pain didn't end you, he told me the wolf can get more dangerous. I am not going to test that theory now
oh great idea, find another person to trust and then just get abandoned all over again. That's such a great idea he was being slightly annoyed, even though he didn't mean it. The stress of worrying about Paisley, keeping his children safe and unable to sleep was draining him mentally why do you think I use silver on the necklace, it burns and I always wear it during the shift. It keeps my human side focused, I wasn't sure it was strong enough that's why I had the chains. I am doing my best here. It's not easy when you are heartbroken for the second time love was nothing but pain, he wasn't going to allow that to happen ever again
What else do you suggest I do? Kiba was getting so desperate at this point going to shoot me? Lock me up? Kill me? the exhaustion in his eyes was so noticeable as he hadn't had a decent rest in weeks. Since he was occupied with searching for Paisley and keeping himself contained during the shift. Kiba was totally broken and didn't know what else there was do

Being a father was hard enough, fathering a supernatural child was harder. It wasn’t just the usual teenaged hormones they were dealing with. It was the emergence of their abilities and all the trouble that came with learning control. Maybe if Paisley was there, Kiba would’ve had an easier time of it, but she wasn’t. ”You won’t get a choice in how it happens for them,” Chris said lightly, not wanting to upset Kiba with the truths he was telling him. ”The full moon is always hard, no matter how many years you’ve been changing for. I can try reaching out to the packs, see if there’s anybody willing to help.” With the way Kiba shied away from packs, he wasn’t sure how much that would help, but it was the best he could do. He’d kept his ear to the ground since he’d arrived in Mystic Falls, endearing himself to the sheriff here the same way he’d done with law enforcement back in Mystic Falls. It was the best way to control the narrative, to protect his family and the pack that he’d become closer to than he ever would’ve expected to. The sheriff shared knowledge with him, asked for help on occasion, but he’d never heard anything about Kiba from her. Chris shook his head at him now. ”The sheriff hasn’t said anything,” he admitted. ”There’s a chance the hunter wouldn’t have reported it. He wouldn’t have wanted the attention any more than you would’ve done.” Forbes was smart, she likely would’ve noticed doctored evidence, especially when it would’ve pointed at one of her own people.
There was a chance the hunter had something to do with Paisley’s disappearance, but if the man was gone Kiba had little hope of tracing him after all this time. That meant he was on his own to handle what was going on with his kids. Chris nodded slowly at him, confirming that it was a good idea to open up to his kids. ”I think you’re right to,” he said lightly. Kiba couldn’t have been right about not being able to change and shift again. ”You physically can’t?” he asked slowly, doubt creeping in over his own knowledge. ”Your Alpha was right. You hold back long enough, when it finally does happen there’s no hope of holding onto your humanity. You’d be a danger to everybody in this town, and to your kids. Holding back won’t fix it. Each month you don’t turn will just make it worse when you finally had to.” That had been Deucalion’s plan, holding Erica and Boyd hostage until they’d turn into the perfect little killing machines. Chris sighed, unsure how to get it through to Kiba that the only through this was to trust. He’d trusted him, hadn’t he? He dragged a hand over his face, trying to find another way around it. ”If you trust me, you can trust them. I won’t get you involved with anybody who’ll turn on you.” His frown deepened, his gaze dropping to the necklace. ”I’ve never heard of it working the way.” If it worked for Kiba, perhaps it would keep them safe.
Heartbreak was something he understood all too well. Maybe it was that which was stopping Kiba from being able to take his advice. ”I suggest you listen to someone who’s been watching people do this for decades. Nobody’s gonna shoot you or kill you if you’re locked up or find an anchor. There are packs in this town who are managing and you can do the same. It all depends on you Kiba, on doing what’s going to keep your kids safe. Do you think showing them how to slowly tear themselves apart by not turning is going to do that?” If nothing else worked, maybe making this about his kids would.

In the city of fools, I was careful and cool but they tore me apart like a hurricane.
honestly Chris I don't know if it works or not. All I know it hurts like hell and I don't know how much more I can take the pain he didn't like showing the kids so have the necklace touching clothing and not the skin. He really wished he stop with the darm pack comment as it was getting annoying now can you just trust me that being in a pack isn't for me? he didn't know the reason for being exiled or that his eyes were now blue. Kiba knew he wasn't the right person to teach his kids and the pack was better for them, they were still young. Kiba wasn't selfish and would allow a different path venue for his kids I am not the right person to teach them this. I can barely do it myself Kiba fully admitted and one of the reasons he was so nervous when Paisley told him he was going to be a father. Now he was stuck with this and doing it alone
Kiba didn't think he was strong enough to fight the shift even if he wanted to. He has in the past kept the two beings away from each other and he only now started to accept the both of him. He was almost there before she disappeared. Kiba sat back down on the rock as he played with his fingers together, something that he does when he is totally stressed out yes I trust you Chris… but that doesn't mean I would trust a pack environment. Twice I was betrayed. I don't even know why Cairo exiled me, I don't remember from a certain point. I don't know what I did to deserve all of this the hope was totally gone. Deep down he knew that Paisley wasn't going to come back, and it could be that she was dead he just didn't know all I do know is that she never coming back
Kiba listened to the hunter. He signed as much as he didn't want to be locked up as he used to go running with Paisley. They would folick and act like young wolves. Kiba didn't know how his wolf side would take to being locked up fine, whatever. I allow you to lock me up every month, if you can promise me that you find someone more responsible to teach my kids and get them in a pack for their safety it doesn't seem to be harsh. Where should I meet you and when Kiba was so defeated, but he was still too stubborn about joining a pack. Despite it being safer for him, than being alone, which was going to be his downfall. You will let me out right, after the moon as past I mean. You will not keep me locked for long like the last time
